History lessons
Many coaches refer to road trips as “business” trips.
The UH coaches are trying to expand the itinerary beyond meeting rooms and practice fields. That is why the Rainbow Warriors have set aside time to tour Washington D.C. during the road trip to play Navy in November. And that is why the Warriors went on private tours of the Arizona Memorial and Mighty Mo yesterday.
Before the excursion, the players were quizzed on the significance of the Mighty Mo. Quarterback Sean Schroeder was the first to answer. Now they all know. And each has a better appreciation for the real warriors who also are staying at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam.

Congrats to former UH defensive tackle Kaniela Tuipulotu on winning his MMA debut last night.
Good Morning!
Happy Birthday shout out to Rainbow Warrior, Bubba Poueu-Luna!

Everybody must be sleeping in, today.
Good morning to all. Glad to see the team on these kinds of excursions. Not all learning happens in the classroom.
Does UH have practice today?
UH has a 90-minute practice today.
It begins at approximately 10:40.
Last call: 18 to 19 rows behind our Warrior bench; so close you can feel their energy–hurry!
50 yard sideline seats: UNLV Oct. 12 road game
$55 each
also $30 for great endzone seats
UH ticket office price is $60 (for near endzone seats most likely)
…Sit safely with 200+ other diehard Hawaii fans all wearing GREEN!

JMHO but would be cool for the current Warriors…..especially the DL…..to get a history lesson…..on the exploits of their “Coach Al” Noga…..the only UH football player to ever to be named 1st Team AP All-American.

Love that deck on the Mighty Mo! Hurrah Seabees!!! 😉
What up gangee from the east coast…??
GOOD MORNING HAWAII!
Great history lesson for the ‘Bows!
Oh, wanted to share my celebrity HOF coach sighting….I was in midtown Manhattan earlier this weekend at Brooks Brothers buying some new workshirts (yes, I do work, and not just share stories of yesteryear on the ST blog) when this sort of larger older guy catches the corner of my eye, and then says ” hey, partner, anything good in there”…being my smart-ass self, and not knowing who it was, and it being NYC, I snapped back, “nah, I’m just shoplifting today”…he smirked and chuckled….it was the one and only Bill Parcells.
Great educational visit to Pearl Harbor for the team. I’m not a fan of visiting coaches who hole up their players in hotel rooms when they come to play here.
BTW, why is there no Navy ROTC program at UH? Schools such as the University of Idaho have a NROTC program (http://www.uidaho.edu/navyrotc), why not UH? Especially, considering the role Hawaii has played in our nation’s defense throughout history.
I would have this picture of the team standing front of the 16″ guns on the Mo, flash on the jumbotron with the words “Welcome to the Warriors House”
Good mornin
g, again!
Slick pix!
Always a good thing to learn about our nation’s history.
#18 Pomai– I say they is a great idea! But I bet we’d get in trouble as it would be violent.
As time goes by, it appears that UH is attractive to the “higher star” players – it may just be trickle today, but it certainly can become a raging river and hope it happens in my life time.
Now, it becomes the coaches job to mold these players to become an efficient working machine to be reckoned with.
As the season progressed last year, I began to wonder why Chow decided in bring in such a young staff, grad assistants, and promote them to full time coaches. Perhaps it showed in the 3-9 record and the reshuffling for 2013 with the addition of Naole and other more experienced former players/coaches. If Chow had so much faith and trust in these young men, I surely hope they return the commitment and stay as long as possible at UH even when Chow retires.
With the addition of Castro to the LB core for 2014, it will be vey solid and physical with experienced leadership thus changing the 2014 recruiting scheme.
ST: is Castro one of the two BCS players you mentioned as interested in UH about 2 weeks ago? Any hint(s) as who the other is?
tom warriornation:
roger that – will advise upon receipt!
Happy birfday to all those I missed.
Hello to Faye W – will we see you at Oregon St or Navy?
Good morning everyone!

#10- Kapakahi —
Oops! Kapakahi, thanks for that exciting video. It brought tears of joy to this sentimental old fut — plenny waimaka!
SteveM: You have a date typo on the away games. I think Utah State is Nov 2.
Oct. 19 – bye
Nov. 09 – at Utah State 1000 HST
Nov. 09 – at Navy 1030 HST
Nov. 23 – at Wyoming 0905 HST
Gooood Afternoon, gang!
Happy birthday, Bubba!
Congrats, Kani!
Thanks for the pics, ST!
GROUP PHOTO UNDER THE MAIN (FORWARD) BATTERY HAD THE TEAM WITH THEIR BACKS TO THE SUN, RESULTING IN SHADOW SILHOUETTES OF THE PLAYERS. A BETTER SHOT WOULD HAVE BEEN TO TAKE A PIC OF THE TEAM LINED UP ON THE PORTSIDE OF THE MAIN DECK, TAKEN ANYWHERE OFF THE SHIP; THEY WOULD THEN HAVE BEEN FACING THE SUN. ANUDDA SHOT DAT WOOD BE GOOD IS ONE OF DA TEAM ON THE AFTER DECK. IT WOULD AFFORD A DIFFERENT LOOK FOR THE SHIP, TOO.
NYUHTX — thanks, I have just made the correction. Utah on November 2.
…while I was at it, I updated the fares for possible cruises after the Oregon and UNLV games. The sailings out of Seattle have dropped even more…darn, the airfare from HI is more… tsigh…and we have a bye after the Oregon State game too. 😐
Kapakahi and Hilo Moon: Yeah, that was nice reliving that game with Wisconsin. Now I am going to bring out my videos that I made of the games with BYU, the first time? that Hawaii beat BYU, and beat them bad, and beat them again the next year too. I was there, both times. The stadium was rocking.
Go Warriors! Beat USC!
I’ve always thought the Kfve should put all the old games they have in their archives up for sale online. I think they would be surprised to see how many people would be willing to purchase them……
I wonder if he has Hawaii v. Okl, 1983…? Would love to get my hands on that game…Oh, watching NFL Fox, Giants v. Colts, Randy Moss is making his debut as a broadcaster, not bad so far, far more animated and casual as an announcer.
Pio Vatuvei?

boolakanaka: Google search also lists two video clips of the 1983 UH-Oklahoma game: Oklahoma 21-Hawaii 17. I blogged one, and you can look at the other one.
Go Warriors!
40–Mahalo nui….Wow, took me back. Seeing something so long ago…it was like how I remembered being on the sidelines. Alvis and James Elias had very strong games….on the other hand, playing an option team, they had plenty of opportunities. That said, they stood out in that game….James could really hit for a linebacker that weighed at most 205 pounds….
Four games that I wish someone would have recorded:
USC at Hawaii 1978 (Hawaii almost won)
Temple at Hawaii 1979 (Gary Allen ran all over the Owls in a tough loss)
USC at Hawaii 1978 – 22 unassisted tackles by Hawaii LB Scott Voeller. One of the most incredible performances by any Hawaii defender ever.
Don’t mess with a silent monarch.
USC will lose bigtime to UH and will be history…
#32 Allan…If they had a strobe on them 300watt…no problem and no squinting…Sunlight in their eyes and they would all look Pake .
… MLB …
Kolten Wong starts. 0/4, with one run scored.

has anyone tried this never wet product?
http://biggeekdad.com/2013/06/neverwet-waterproof-coating/
chopsueyboy
I saw that on TV. Looked amazing, but I haven’t seen it on sale yet. Who’s carrying it?
Neverwet is being sold at Home Depot. It kinda works, but kinda doesn’t. http://www.slate.com/articles/technology/technology/2013/07/neverwet_review_the_water_repelling_spray_is_no_miracle_product.html
“Silent Monarch” – good description boolaK.
55–every once in the blue moon, I get sum poetic license and I nail um. Next, one due in about 40 years.
I also wanted to say that it is a great idea of touring the Arizona Memorial… Hopefully, the team will be fired up to play against the invading “USC”. As long as UH can beat the spread, I am mighty happy!! If we can sneak up an upset, I will celebrate all night! Oh no, but I need to work the next day!!
Touring the Washington DC area is another great idea – all the memorials and all the museums!! These athletes may have learned about all these in their history or political science classes but to see them in person, it’s priceless!! Even though we want them to be great on the field, we’d also want to provide them with the great education!!
I remember last spring, reports about USC intense about ripping the ball out practices to force fumbles. Keep it in mind lads and hang onto the football… UH got to be Fast and Furious…
Maybe the local military can provide a tank to be our mascot to intimidate the trojan horse and rider…
Can always disguise the tank to look like a $pam Musubi…
Gotta respect those who can suck ’em on a Sunday night. 😈
Nytal!
Past scores against USC since 1999
1999 62-7 June Jones
2003 61-32 June Jones
2005 63-17 June Jones
2010 49-36 Greg McMackin*
2012 49-10 Norm Chow
Hoping our Warriors can keep it closer, or win.
Wait, I thought we wouldn’t have any more good recruits because we changed our name back to Rainbow Warriors? Didn’t someone say that recruits wouldn’t want to play for a team with Rainbow in the name?
While the offense is doing good, doesn’t that mean our pass defense isn’t doing too good? Or the defensive line isn’t pressuring the quarterback enough. I thought our DBs were going to be the best part of the football team this year.
#46 KAWIKA49: THE PLAYERS COULD FACE AN ANGLE BTWN MILILANI & PEARL CITY SO AS NOT TO BE STARING INTO THE SUN (WHICH WOULD BE HIGH IN THE SKY OVER THE WAIANAE RANGE ANYWAY), BUT ABOUT 30-45 DEGREES FROM THE DIRECTION OF THE SUN.
