Harding on the go

With some free time this morning, former UH football player Scott Harding decided to spend it the way he spends most of his free time. He exercised. He went for a run — not outdoors, where it was in the 30s, with snow on the ground in Chicago — but in an indoor facility.

Harding is participating in this weekend’s NFL regional combine. The defense went through drills today; the offense goes tomorrow. Although Harding aspires to be an inside receiver, he will be grouped with the wideouts. No biggie. He aligned wide as a sophomore and junior.

Harding heads back to Honolulu on Monday. After all, Harding is still a full-time UH student. He’s taking four business and finance classes, as well as a lab.

“It’s been pretty tough,” Harding said. “I’ve managed to get through.”

Because Harding did not redshirt, he acknowledged, “all of my schooling has been back-ended.”

After this semester, he probably needs another semester to earn a bachelor’s degree in business.

For now, he is on a paper chase and football pursuit. A typical weekday starts with about four hours of training at Tactical. He then attends classes. He often will do cardio drills in the late afternoon. Then study. Then sleep. And repeat. He works out six days a week. Sundays are “cheat” days when he can eat “decent” food and “splurge” on entertainment. Or sleep.

Having a blast with our son, left home Wednesday & arrived late evening in Seattle. Took the red-eye Thursday night from Seattle to Raleigh with a stopover in Houston for connecting flight. Got to Chapel Hill just past noon Friday, but hotel room wasn’t available, so we visited Franklin Street and ate deep fried chicken n” cheddar biscuits from Time Out restaurant, and walked around buying some souvenirs like t-shirts, polo shirts, & jackets. Real tourist???
Met someone briefly on flight from Houston to Raleigh that graduated from UNC last year, He was dressed in Tarheels blue, so I approached him for suggestions and his first thought was Time Out. We loved it, tasty, moist, good size portions, & inexpensive (am I too chinese?)
Today, Nicholas & I journeyed to the Dean Smith Center and saw UNC basketball museum in the morning. Wanda is meeting up with a customer of ours that relocated to North Carolina, lives about an hour away. We hope to at least say hello to her, even if us guys don’t have the time to be with them for lunch. Game time is not till 9 pm EST (4 pm HNL) so you can watch us on ESPN.
Any other must see or eat in Raleigh, Chapel Hill, or Greensboro?
Sunday morning, we’ll fly down to Orlando for Epcot, MGM Studio, & Disney World.
We leave Disney World Tuesday night so we can attend all the games from Wednesday till Saturday at the ACC Tournament in Greensboro. Wanda’s not going to any of the games, so she might just use the time to relax in the hotel room and catch up on Korean dramas tv shows, Any suggestions for her would be appreciated.

The passenger onboard also suggested The Pit for ribs & Southern Inn.

    Good morning everyone!

Good luck to Scott Harding at the combine!

  13. SteveM March 7, 2015 11:39 am

    chopsueyboy — long time!
Are you planning to attend any UH football road games this year? The 2015 Tsai-ko listing is up at:
    http://stevem.altervista.org/away15.html

Anyone else? Even tentative is OK and will be noted as such.
    Post here and/or email me.

    Howzit chopsuey boy!

  15. Chopsueyboy March 7, 2015 11:53 am

    Hiya SteveM
Not sure yet about road games. Big changes coming soon, moving to Seattle end of the month. Nicholas wants us to be with him.
He’s treating us for this trip of a lifetime. Over 40 years ago, been cheering for Tarheels basketball, even before the Four Corners Offense(even though I bleed green & white). He decided before I get too old and can’t enjoy myself, he’d treat to the rival game of Duke visiting Chapel Hill.
The Dean Smith Center is amazing. Watched ESPN Game Day broadcast from their arena a few hours ago. Returning tonight for game.

DPK: Good team in the women’s basketball and softball too! Doubleheader today, so to speak. But one starts at 4:00 and the other at 5:00 – crazy!

  17. Chopsueyboy March 7, 2015 12:51 pm

    Howzit DPK!

  18. Da Punchbowl Kid March 7, 2015 1:03 pm

    #16 -Tom –
It’s a good winter for UH sports over all – the girls winning the swimming and diving championship too! Basketball was 1 game shy of 20 wins.

  19. HawaiiMongoose March 7, 2015 1:10 pm

Can’t understand why Wahine basketball is starting at 5:00 p.m. instead of 7:00 p.m. With a later start, the softball crowd could come over and watch the game. I’ve heard the Big West requested earlier Wahine basketball start times this season so opponents could catch red-eye flights home to California the same evening, but given that UH is paying for the travel, you would think that the interests of Wahine basketball fans would trump the interests of opposing teams.

  20. Stephen Tsai March 7, 2015 1:18 pm

    HawaiiMongoose:
    You’re making too much sense!

  21. Andrew March 7, 2015 1:52 pm

I’m interested to see what the attendance at the WBB game will be. Wish I could go but have to work.

  22. A-House March 7, 2015 2:25 pm

    Dennis:

they got Korean tv stations in North Carolina?

I know there is a very large population in Virginia.

  23. A-House March 7, 2015 2:28 pm

    yea, Hawaiian Mongoose!

mainland teams used to do many things for visiting UH teams turn advantage to them – remember the pink locker rooms? – the fan mile at Fresno ST?

Hawaii has always been a “pushover” to accommodate visiting teams – time to get nasty or make it unpleasant for visiting teams – damn with the Aloha spirit!!!!

  24. st. anthony trojan March 7, 2015 3:13 pm

Well if red eye flight is cheaper by a considerable margin…then for me is ok to change time……simple save some money if we paying…n me no can watch either ne way…he he he…IS HOW 2 GO BJ…TURN THEM SCREWS….

  25. cappie the dog March 7, 2015 3:14 pm

Five minutes in: Hawaii 14 Cal-State Fullerton 1.

    Okay.

How are they going to blow this?

  26. cappie the dog March 7, 2015 3:33 pm

    22.

I almost passed out when Entertainment Weekly devoted a page to Korean dramas.

  27. Boolakanaka March 7, 2015 5:10 pm

Chopsueyboy–have a great time–eat plenty of BBQ for all of us!!

  28. Chopsueyboy March 7, 2015 7:03 pm

    A-House
No Korean channel, got Viki & Drama Fever app for Wanda’s iPad.
    Boolakanaka
    Bad luck trip,
In Houston, ice on wings…needed de-ice but took too long, aircraft went back to gate for refueling, over 1 hour delay.
Breakfast restaurant ran out of eggs
Chicken & biscuit restaurant sold out chicken.
BBQ place for lunch sold out on ribs, and pulled pork tasted like kahlua pig at home, no HBA sauce
And now we lose the game…at least UNC has another chance at ACC Tournament and NCAA Tournament

  29. Chopsueyboy March 7, 2015 9:11 pm

Tried to go UNC planetarium, closed due power outage. No where else on campus, just that 1 building. Things should be better at Disney World?

  30. Not an Expert March 7, 2015 9:19 pm

Right on Hawaii Mongoose. Tell the visiting team because we are subsidizing your travel expense we need to play our games at times that will accommodate the greatest amount of paying fans to make up for our subsidies.

  31. Not an Expert March 7, 2015 9:20 pm

If the visiting teams want to have time changes for them that affects our paying fans than they should take less on the travel subsidies.

  32. kruzen March 7, 2015 10:36 pm

  35. oneseason March 8, 2015 5:10 am

I wish Hawaii Warrior World had a documents page with links to things like the MWC and Big West travel agreements, coaches’ contracts, and other stuff we like to grumble about.
