Hard-hitting offseason
Coaches frown on their players doing what would be considered “dangerous” activities during the offseason, like riding motorcycles or working with forklifts.
Middle linebacker Jake Heun apparently has found a loophole. He is competing as a heavyweight in a mixed-martial arts card Saturday in the Blaisdell Arena. It should be a good performance. Former UH running back Nate ilaoa and his wife set aside a date night each week. Ilaoa convinced his wife to spend it at the fight.

Wideout Rodney Bradley, who missed the final seven games of the 2010 season because of two fractures in his left leg, competed in conditioning drills this morning. He has yet to participate in 7-on-7 drills, but remains on track to be 100 percent for the start of training camp in August.

Sure, it’s crazy now. Schools leaving the Big 12 for other conferences. And, by the way, when did the Big 12 become the developmental league for other conferences?
All of which might be good for the WAC.
Conferences that lost schools will raid other conferences, which, in turn, will raid other conferences. Somehow — as someone at UH said this morning — there might be some left-out schools (UNLV? San Diego State?) that could be a nice fit for current WAC schools.
After all, there can can be a lot of conference realignment. But it doesn’t change the fact that while schools may change conference memberships, they can’t change their geographical locations. As a matter of convenience, some schools are naturally — and geographically — linked.

Happy birthday to the one-and-only Bulla.
Go Warriors!
happy b-day bulla!
belated congrats to amber. great job in less than ideal conditions.
yo jake, don’t give up your back! 🙂
go rodney!
Whoo-hoo! Top 5!!!
congrats to tracy for making the cws all tournament team!
Okay, top 10.
ahhhh…broke my string! 🙂
howzit in wa?
Good luck to Jake Heun tonight. Win or lose, I hope that he avoids injury and is fully healthy for the summer conditioning program and Fall camp.
Last week Missouri’s President refused to commit to the Big 12 and their administrators openly talked about how the Big 10 would be best for their school. Now, they are committed to the Big 12 sticking together! I guess Chip Brown was correct awhile back when he said that the Big 10 had cooled on Missouri.
Hey ST
Coach is at Kapolei today talking SMACK!
Interesting TV report from Kansas City (I think that is where the Big 12 is headquartered).
except for the potential for cuts, contusions and cauliflower ears, mma is pretty safe…unless you no like tap!
ALOHA KAKAHIAKA!
Top Twenny!
Howzit Lizzy-Girl!
Beat ’em down Jake!
Bulla, Bulla – Happy Birfday, big fella!!!
The guy who was responsible for the SEC’s last expansion and who helped create the BCS system has some interesting opinions on what will happen in D-IA football. The most interesting part of this is he thinks that the MWC will become a major conference…that would be good for UH if UH was able to join and really bad otherwise.
I thought Oklahoma was heading to the Pac10?
I’m so confused… ah.. but then.. what else is new, eh?
HAUOLI LAHANAU, bulla!
Time to celebrate with memories made from the 2nd BLOG BASH!

While some of the handles have changed, the philosophical impact remains so I share with you, the oratory:
Tsaiko Culture, what is this Tsaiko Culture?
This thing we call Tsaiko Culture as an anomaly, an enigma if you will. It is not just a blog, it is not just people writing about UH Warrior Football, it is not about telling jokes, it is not about trading recipes, it is not about going to a Tail gate, it is not about singing karaoke, it is not about going bowling, it is not about going to the movies, it is not about helping worthy causes, it is not about traveling across the United States to cheer for the Warriors at New Orleans…it is more, it is bigger than that, it is bigger than life itself.
In no way, form or manner, did Stephen Tsai ever imagine that one day, he would be standing in the Stan Sheriff Arena, in the Wong Hospitality room surrounded by a group of maniacal Warrior foot ball fans…. No way.
So, what is this Tsaiko Culture? For Kekoa, his Hawaiian flag that he carried with him to New Orleans, he took it everywhere with him and whenever the photo opportunity presented itself, he proudly displayed his Hawaiian Flag; his flag was his shield of faith he took into battle. But it’s more than just a flag, it represents everything we stand for.
A Tsaiko once told me, ‘I never thought at my age, I’d still be making friends, and not just friends, but really good friends…’ No, DPK did not tell me that, but think about that, that says so much about this group of people called Tsaikos. We welcome all into our group, the passion we have for our Warrior Football Team is the thread that weaves through all of us that brings us together like a sweater. Like one of those Bill Cosby sweaters, you know, very warm, cuddly, like a security blanket with sleeves.
The Tsaiko culture has evolved into an entity that no one had any inkling of. We have our benchmarks, you know, what we consider ‘cornerstones’ of the group, where a certain item or event is entrenched in our memories forever. Just look at the memorabilia that everyone brought tonight….incredible. We could talk for hours about Gigi’s muumuus, Homey’s forearms, Homey singing to Elvis Pressley, Homey’s pretty hair, hey wait a minute, that’s enough about Homey.
Then there is ST’s world famous rendition of ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’, which is mind boggling. James singing about his horse with no name, addahknowjoe belting out about his American Woman, Stretch going Sailing, Lyn showing off her boots, Esme being a Heartbreaker, Pride bringing out the cole porter in all of us, Jason crooning love ballads to his auntys, DPK upsetting Donald Duck, Wreck being a gigolo, Steve M. aka VITO, VITO, VITO, Liz K. bringing the phantoms out of the Opera for us, and Kekaula bringing it home with Kanaka WaiWai.
Or how about our mainland counterparts, Rich2176, Ronnie, Garret, WA fan, Las Vegas…they never stop to amaze me
Our outer island ohana including Whitey and Duffer from Maui, these 2 guys are the mayors of Maui, with their office located in the back right corner of Tiffanys in Wailuku. If you want to know about what is going on in Maui, they are more hooked up than you would want to know. On Kauai, Aunty Liz…she holds down the Garden Isle for the Tsaikos. On the Big Island, let’s see, could it be Big Hilo Fan? Not only is this guy funny, but almost pretty smart too. For an attorney, he is pretty likeable, I don’t care what DPK says.
The common thing is the Warrior Beat, and every day, day in and day out, ST brings out another story line, and the banter begins. True, we might go off topic just a little some times, I still don’t know what kim chee soup, and mabo tofu have in common with Warrior Football, but hey, we always come full circle, and bring it back.
Tsaiko Culture, to sum it up, it is a feeling, it’s not the shirts, the glasses, the banners, those are just what I would say are memorial stones…to signify an event or a moment. Much like the stones that God had Joshua place in the River Jordan as Joshua led the Israelites to the Promised Land, these items are our memorial stones. The real Tsaiko culture lives in all of us…it is that warm and fuzzy feeling we get when we open the blog and see a familiar name, it’s that feeling we get when we’re laughing by ourselves at work or home when we read a good joke from Las Vegas, it’s that tugging at our heart and the tears from our eyes when we read about one of our fellow Tsaikos going through a tough time, it’s that heart throbbing ache when one of the Tsaikos has lost a loved one…..like I always say….make memories, make memories, make memories. When I say what are the 5 F’s….football, food, family, friends, fun, and soon to be the 6th F….FISHING…..haha.
I thank all of you for being who you are, I thank our committee members and organizers, I thank ST for his tireless efforts, and I thank Akua for watching over all of us. We are and will be forever more…THE TSAI-KOS
haka –
Strings are made to be broken. 😆
In the case of USC, its: rules are made to be broken. 😆
So, LizK,
What you trying to say???…..bwaaaaahahaha!!!
Beautiful, tuvm.
Congrats to AD Donovan and Coach Mack for their stance and success with the academic side of sports.
Good morning again…and again wishin Bulla a Happy B-Day….mwahahahahahahaaha
Garret:
You keep refering to the Texas Legislature and certain Texas schools in the Big 12.
What has the legislature got to do with where the schools go?
Did the Hawaii legislature approve Uh moving into the WAC? So long ago I can’t remember. I know then Gov Burns was a major player, but legislative approval?
mctruck… that’s not me- it’s bulla’s Tsai-ko Oratory!
How would we update this?
New Make Memory Benchmarks!
Warrior Beat Videos- Princess and the Tsai
Whoosh! Esme and out!
Good Morning T-saiko.
Happy B-Day to braddah Bulla and many more.
If USC cancels their game.. what happens to all the season ticket holders and season ticket pricing?
UH season tickets, I’m referring to.
to all the Tsaikos,
mahalo for your kind words, and mahalo to aunty liz for the reposting from our 2nd blog bash…..whew, memories, what endearing, heart warming memories.
through all of the turmoil of this past year, the economy, the Warriors, the wars in foreign countries defending our freedom, the demise of the Advertiser, the loss of a few Tsaikos….through everything….we have survived, a little bruised, a little scratched up, but we……have survived. i thank God for that, and i thank God for blessing me with all of you, my true life treasures are the memories we have created together, i thank you for sharing with me.
i leave you with this….i looked into the mirror today and could barely recognize the man i was looking at…battle weary, aged over the years, a quick smile, crows feet dancing in the corners of his eyes….what does 51 look like? i looked a little deeper, beyond the reflection in the mirror and i was a blessed man surrounded by a loving family, a wonderful God fearing wife, kids that truly loved their dad, friends with open arms and hearts, smiles of joy everywhere, laughter in the rafters……truly a blessed moment.
looking into the next chapter i realize what is truly important, through all of the challenges, the struggles, the setbacks, the tears, the broken hearts….what is important…..Love….that’s the bottom line. Love on your family, love on your friends, love on your coworkers, and love on your enemies….faith, hope and love, and of these three, the greatest is love.
Mahalo ke Akua, love all of you, and mahalo for putting a smile on these lips.
IMUA WARRIORS
A-House,
The Permanent University Fund is an endowment with *billions* of dollars (from mineral rights) that is run by the Texas Legislature. So, the Legislature decides what percentage the University of Texas system gets (Austin, UT-Dallas, UTEP, UT-San Antonio, etc.) and what percentage Texas A&M gets (they have some Universities also, but not as many as the UT system). This money is more than ALL of the TV contracts that all the conferences get combined.
When the Big 12 was formed, the people in charge in the Legislature (mainly Bob Bullock, who was both a Baylor and Texas Tech graduate) said that Texas and Texas A&M had to take along Texas Tech and Baylor or they would lose hundreds of millions per year from the PUF. *That* is why the Texas Legislature has power over the Universities in the state.
I wish there was a multi-billion endowment for the UH system–all of UH’s facility and funding problems would be over. The key part of the PUF is that it was set up so that the Texas Legislature could NOT spend the money…it has to go to the Universities. So, the Legislature cannot take money from that and use it to cover a budget problem (like Hawaii is doing with the hurricane fund), it is reserved for public Universities. However, the Texas Legislature could decide to not pay out anything from the PUC and let its principal grow…making the Universities have to cover for a 9-figure shortfall in their budgets.
This could be a crazy next couple of month if the dominoes begin to start falling the way things are looking. We will find out soon (it looks like) if U.H. football will still exist in the next couple of years. Hopefully the powers to be are working overtime cause it looks like to dominoes are falling quick.
happy birthday bulla
now go out and make a memory for someone.
A day or two ago somebody asked for examples of BCS AQ schools that had Athletic budget problems. The Athletic Department at Texas brought in nearly $130 million in revenue last year and gave $10 million to the University to help their budget problems…Texas A&M’s Athletic Department has a budget deficit of $16 million and they are in major need for more money for Athletics.
USC football actually is losing *30* scholarships! ESPN seems to agree with d1shima that the 2-year bowl ban is more damaging than the 30 scholarships lost.
blessed birthday brother bulla!!!!
Note that the NCAA rules say that since the bowl ban covers the rest of their eligibility, every Junior and Senior on USC’s team can transfer out and immediately play at any other D-IA school! Could UH get any of their players?
where’s pete carroll when we need him?
DPK,
They better string up USC…unless USC can pull some strings…then they get away with no strings attached…auwe…some strings are just not fair! Sorry for stringing you along… 🙂
Hey my question is if Nebraska goes to the Big 10 (which is actually 11 teams now)…will they now call themselves the Big 12 since it looks like the Big 12 will be down to 10 teams….and possibly less….
Just wondering stupid things out loud….LOL
I’m a frequent lurker, but this is my first post in a long time. Just had to wish Bulla a Happy Bday and say that was a beautiful and touching oratory abt Tsai-ko Culture. May a smile fill all of your hearts!
never thought the ncaa would come down that hard. definitely a message shot around the college football world.
It looks like there could be a really big possibility that we may not have a Football team to cheer on within the next 5-10 years if we are left behind. Sports could cease to remain period within this same time frame. HO kind of scary to even think about it. Once again hopefully the people with the say is trying to position the school in this crazy landscape.
Colorado joins the Pac-10. First domino…
WELCOME to PuaMohala and all the other lurkers who have posted on the new Warrior Beat. E KOMO MAI!
My first time on StarAd. Always remember your first!
I tinking about all dis conference movement. I tink dis all because da BCS schools like cut da small kine schools from da BCS money. Big boyz like make mega conferences with big playoffs, den da conference champs play da conference champs. Going be like da old days, mega-Pac 10 vs mega-Big 10 on Jan 1. SEC vs ACC? Big boyz not going need BCS anymore. All da profits going stay in da mega conferences. When dey do this, small kine schools going play in da BCS bowls, but das going be like da NIT compared to da mega-conference championships. What you tink?
OK, the Conspiracy Theorist in me comes out…
The NCAA doesn’t have a good track record in the courts and they know this….
The sanctions against SC are so severe that it ensures the big guns in SC’s world are gonna come out blazing and take this into the courts.
The case goes before a judge who rules for USC…the NCAA says, “Hey, we tried but the big programs are too powerful and will soon run amuck.”
The public uproar is so loud that Washington (DC) has to step in and write mandates to limit the power that the conferences and schools can exercise and the NCAA wins its gambit and stays in control of the whole she-bang!
Talked to Coach Dana today and offered the Tsaikos help in any kind of stuff she needs for wbb the school can’t provide.
btw, i’ll go on record pledging to cut my ‘samson-like’ hair IF usc cancels its game vs uh this year.
86 days, 5 hours, 47 minutes……and counting.
Garret:
thank you for your PUF explanation for Texas “football”.
Hawaii is stuck with Olivine crystals from volcanic eruptions – very little “mineral” value – more like no value except for some jewelry. Texas have much oil.
Does the State of Texas “own the mineral rights” or the American Indian tribes?
kama crab,
If the Big12 persists and uses the money it gets from the schools that depart to entice programs from other conferences nearby to join them, we might see the MWC and not the WAC disappear. Then the BCS wouldn’t have to be concerned with the MWC entering the foray and splitting the BCS money pie. The MWC would be pretty powerless and the WAC might be able to absorb a few of their remaining teams.. In the end the WAC might be a better conference as a result.. not BCS quality.. but better..
duffer:
During the season, I called the Wahine BB office and got a recording and left my name and phone number cause the recording said some one will call me back. Still waiting.
Any who, no call back so the $$$ went to another program.
If the BCS conferences “merge” into mega-conferences, how will this affect the selection of teams to play in the BCS bowl games?
Will each “mega” conference be entitled to more than 1 team? Also, current “top dog” in an existing conferece may find itself below an incoming team for conference champ. Ho, big ego problems!!!
Be careful, Jake!
ST ~ How often are the guys on the field for unsupervised workouts? Good news about Rodney Bradley.
duffer,
Did Coach Dana mention anything they would need? More season ticket holders, gang…
howzit duffer!ana
isn’t (coach) dana just one of the nicest person you have ever met. she was a fellow collegue with the mayor’s administration.
err
duffer!ana=duffer
Interesting previous post about geography and conference alignments.
UH’s traditional rivalries along the lines of Stanford-Cal, USC-UCLA?
Any thoughts on a conference based on geography for non Pac-#?
SDSU?
UNLV?
Air Force?
BYU?
Other?
COLT WATCH:

Maybe we need a certain coach at UH to call UsC out????????
And They might try an use the excuse of travel but that won’t fly. dey sked!
Annodah article about Colorado going to the Pac-10.
Pomai,
Got your CC’d email. I sent you one back.
If their juniors and a few seniors leave the program.. egads… they could be very very vulnerable…
Well, I think some of us expected USC to back out of the UH games when Ole Pete left.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BULLA !!
Well, ya coulda said SOMETHING before I re-newed my season tickets! j/k!
A-House. In almost every deed in Hawaii, the mineral rights are reserved to the State of Hawaii.
I am guessing but it would seem logical that the mineral rights in Texas is reserved to the State of Texas. However, the different Indian tribes in Texas are “independent” nations and the mineral rights belong to them.
Liz Kauai, on Tsaiko culture, best post I’ve ever read from you. Well done!
Bulla: Happy Birthday, and congrats on the release of Shrek 4. I kid, I kid..please don’t send The Beast to my house for I will certainly hide.
Actually Bulla is one of the finest fathers I have come across in my lifetime and I’m sure most everyone who follows Mr. Tsai’s blog certainly agrees.
Hmmm…I though Caroll split because he hasn’t delivered a National Championship lately so knew people would be calling for his head soon. 😕
With Kansas in need of strong leadership because the Big 10, Pac-10, and SEC don’t want them, their AD is having to “retire” in a year. The facts are that he had to testify to a grand jury (due to an ticket-scalping controversy in their athletic department that already got many people fired) instead of attend the Big 12 conference meetings and that he’s in the middle of an ethics scandal where he was being blackmailed because he got exercise equipment for personal use given to him illegally and only paid for it after the newspapers revealed that situation.
SteveM and DPK IMHO he left cause he knew what was coming from the NCAA, his hands are as dirty as the rest of them.
A-House,
Aside from the resources from on Native American land and some privately owned land, all that oil belongs to the state of Texas…and billions of it goes for public Universities. There are some exceptions–one frat I knew at Texas had been deeded the rights to an oil well on property that they owned. They had a LOT of money for some amazing parties and their frat house was very nice.
If USC pulls out (giggity 😆 ), I think their “back out” penalty amount was already written into the original contract right?
Can we slap SC with a HEAVIER monetary penalty for backing out?
The University of Houston is trying to make themselves more appealing to possible conferences that might be interested in them (Big 12? MWC?).
Oklahoma’s AD says that the Big 12 could add BYU and Air Force to replace Colorado and Nebraska…
<HAPPY BIRTHDAY WISHES TO BULLA!!!
No finer folks than you, da Cheerleader, and family
Happy birthday Bulla!
Sean in pearl city
Happy Birthday Irving.
Speaking about MMA, for those that don’t know it HawaiianBod is really Clay Guida from the UFC.
Summary of some of the penalties USC got…I hadn’t read before how they cannot have any contact with Reggie Bush. They also have to close their practices and locker rooms and their boosters cannot even be on the sideline during games (a big incentive for boosters to give money to the school).
Don’t forget that coaches also have to study.
Can’t recruit without taking the recruiting test.
Of course, the test if open book. But as all guys, just because you have a map …
OK, I need to talk to the techs about a numbering system.
So, having 15 scholarships max per year for 3 years plus letting their juniors and seniors transfer out and play right away, USC will feel this punishment for at least 7 years (when their last limited recruiting class will be seniors).
Note that UH will not be declared the winner of their game against USC during that time period. Officially, there will be no winner for that game.
Air Force to the Big 12? Seriously? I know it all comes down to football, but even their football team hasn’t been THAT good lately. The other sports like basketball and baseball are barely competitive on the Divison I level.
…but we didn’t lose! 😆
Good afternoon Tsaiko Nation, I see the new blog is up and I have “INSIDE” information to the USC sanctions and probation as it has hit head on front news here in LA early this morning as “lack of institutional control” is the final verdict with 2 years probation and NO bowl apperance and lost of 30 scholarships during this span.
This has all come to present because of Reggie Bush illegal dealings with Lloyd Lake Managers during his final year at USC who bought Reggie a Cadillac SUV as well as buying Mother and Step Dad a House in the understanding that Bush would sign with them as their agents for the NFL.
Well good folks Reggie never kept the understanding and never cleaned up the relationships as he accused the Agents of lying and trying to use him as a money gravy train there fore leaving these Two agents to tell “ALL” to the NCAA. Pete Carrol knew this was coming and got out quickly BUT he allowed a loose ship in practice as there were up to a 1,000 people at practices with media, corporate sponsors and agents swarming all over as Kiffin has cleaned that situation up immediately as all practices are closed.
BIG mess with angry “TOP” administrators and BIG money alumnus wanting Garret’s job as he is the watch dog on duty and the University has been embarresed by this mess let alone the “MONEY” they will lose with no chance of a BCS bowl. What is grumbling NOW that top freshmen recruits to leave as even Top quarteback Barkley who is a sophomore is weighing his options.
Running back Coach Todd McNail from Pete Carrol regime who was kept over will be fired as he was directly involve with the Reggie Bush infractions as being the running back coach and “watch dog” On Bush Heisman Year should of known what is going on with the star back as USC is appealing the penalities with it’s BIG TIME lawyers BUT I can’t see the NCAA reversing it’s decesion despite all the political power and MONEY that USC has !
Anger and disbelief with a lot of heads turning as media here in LA on it as bees to honey with Reggie Bush name and Heisman being erased from the record books by many USC supporters who feel Reggie sold the University down the drain !
Stay Tune !
Garret,
So what’s the point in playing USC if there’s no “W or L” to be had?
pete carroll response to USC sanctions
http://ncaafootball.fanhouse.com/2010/06/10/pete-carroll-responds-to-usc-sanctions/
Wow this has been a very eventful first half of June. This looks to be a very interesting month for collegiate sports.
Oh and USC will be in deep you know what for the next several years.
chopsueyboy,
Two words for Pete:
she
buy
I bet you the boy wonder Lane Kiffin wished he never said yes to SC. He probably would have had a chance at a BCS bowl within the next two to three years. Now all he can hope for is a saimin bowl after the NCAA is done with them.
good. no signs of any troll’s yet. still lurking.
Man or Woman (if Esme is reading this), I sure got a lot of smiles while I was shopping today. I think it was because I was wearing my new Rainbow Wahine World Series T-shirt. My WAC Champ s shirt is on its way.
Guud afternoon Tsaikos…
Hauoli Lahanau to “Beast Daddy” Bulla….brudda, you see on “aged” person…to us we see a Genuine Tsaiko!…Have Great B0Day!
Mahalo LizK for that great post..luved it!
Good Luck Jake…give’um hell!
over and out…
Cliff is correct that USC’s RB will be fired right away. Cliff said that he should have known about the violations…the NCAA found out that he *did* know and did nothing about it!
d1
Two letters for Pete:
BS
Garret,
Castiglione last statement after making those statements about sticking with texas and then given the scenario of “what if Pac 10 comes calling”, we’ll have to wait and see..” It was taken out of context. The whole sentence is, “well have to wait and see how many wheelbarrows of dollars they’ll bring to have us unstick with Texas”.
Sorry, being sarcastic, just given the outright greed attempting to be masked as “best for our student athletes”.
Howzit!
So USC has to distance themselves from R.Bush (and OJM)? So, how do he, the ‘Aints and the NFL introduce him? Is it like he never went to college?
mctruck – we’ll still have the W when we beat them this year! the no W-L is for the 05 game (wasn’t that Colt’s 1st game?)
jmxxxx,
Gotta do like Itula Mili on MNF…Hauula Elementary! 😆
Nice to see the NCAA doling out the punishment to one of the big boys. Hopefully it actually sticks! Too bad for the kids, though. And, as others have pointed out, too bad the coaches who were responsible are not punished (monetarily?) once they leave.
Oh wait….dey closing, or wat? 🙁
kama krab I think he is getting what he deserves, hard to believe that any of the coaches during that time didn’t know what was going on. I guess it is possible but IMO don’t believe it. But you are right I bet he wish he stayed where he was. LOL
haka . . .
Sorry for the interruption earlier. I had a couple of free minutes and dashed in and out.
Still overcast but the temps are definitely headed up! This Sunday the forecase is for the low 80’s. Whoo-hoo!!!
I wonder how toasty dj will be on the other side of the hill.
i wonder how these changes will affect the Oklahoma and Nebraska rivalry. When I was in Kansas back in the 70’s I remember seeing a huge sea of people in red passing thru Kansas. I was told that it happened every time those two teams played each other. if I was Kansas I would close all the streets for emergency repairs prior to future games and have those fans go around the state.
kiffin will find a way to add more disgrace to all of this before his tenure there is done. at leaast he has a built in excuse for not to making it to a bowl game!
Carroll still has some “stuff” going on around him. Earlier this week two Seahawks were arrested for stealing doughnuts. Around 3am they entered a bakery through the backdoor. They ate maple bars. Did not pay for them. Then left. The workers did not recogonize them — still does not excuse their stupidity and arrogance — and called the police.
Carroll laughed about the incident. The players were released without being charged.
Really sad that he, the players, the bakery, and the police blew it off as a “misunderstanding”.
haka an for 4 million a year. LOL
wafan, no worries. sorry for bumping you to sixth! ha! 🙂
And, the players never paid for the maple bars.
bottom line — they stole and got away with it.
pomai, isn’t that sickening? aiiiyah…ass why hawd…
One suggestion I heard to stop these violations…the AD and Coach involved get Lifetime Bans
haka . . .
It has been a long while since I have been anywhere near the top 100.
when bcs schools are found guilty of infractions they should be fined millions and millions of dollars and that money should be given equally to all non bcs schools! cheeeeeeeee hooooooooo!
How many think that pete carroll would be hard pressed to find a college job once he bombs it Seattle an believe me he’s going to tank.
I assume Jake Heun will be paid for his MMA bout. So like how Viliami Nauahi was on Wheel of Fortune, will they be unable to “bill” Heun as a UH football player?
“bombs it in”
Kazz I hope the coaches are watching this because if I am not mistaken if it was mentioned or advertised that he was a Warrior it would be a NCAA infraction. I could be wrong.
Good lord! How expensive were those doughnuts??? 😆
Pomai my question with regards to Viliami’s situation would be,
Because he was not on scholarship is it an infraction that he won money on a game show. He was paying for school out of his own pocket, so winning money on a game show would just be another form of income which would be use to pay for school.
Just wondering
Don’t remmeber who brought it up yesterday, but let’s not forget to help out coach Tommy Heffernan with his charity walk tomorrow night to benefit his daughter.
Click on my name. An account has been set-up in Hilina’i’s name at American Savings Bank.
Kazz . . .
Have not purchased a maple bar in a long while but it was under a dollar for one. I wonder how we would have faired if we had done it. And, an NFL player cannot afford a few dollars and do not know that it is wrong to steal?!?! Right.
Hi everyone!
Read comments, VERY INTERESTING.
I posted this on Heffernan before.http://www.sportshawaii.com/sh/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=36090

Thanks for the link.

Thanks Red Zone. I knew that someone on here already did. Just wanted put in a reminder.
Kind of sad.
Officials at Arlington Cemetary cannot guarantee the identies of some of those buried there. What the heck were they thinking trying to hush up their incompetence. Our men and women deserve much better than that!
Kama,
It’s not an issue that a student athlete wins money in a contest or game show. I think the NCAA’s concern is the game show, using the student athlete in a promotional way for the show, or in this case, the MMA organization using Jake Heun billed as “UH FOOTBALL PLAYER JAKE HEUN” to try to draw more interest.
Of course if people know he plays for UH then cannot help that. On the NCAA’s perspective, they don’t want a student athlete being recognized and advertised as a student athlete for a company’s profit.
Lots of local companies would easily use UH student athletes to promote their businesses like how Colt and Davone promoted the Honda dealership, but that was AFTER they graduated. No way they could have done that while still UH athletes.
Danny Ainge played pro baseball while still in college.
and Arizona’s softball skipper is at it again….
As Rob DeMello and Russell Yamanoha once said… “BABOOZE OF DA WEEK”!!!
Charlie Chaplan entered a Charlie Chaplan look-alike contest and finished 3rd place.
Pride.,
It was Roysan16. I saw more about Heffernan’s story on the news last night. They need help.
Sorry, RedZone.
So far two of my posts at the UH Sports Extra Blog have not been posted…
Kazz, Bruce O’Neil and the Rainbow basketball team used players to make a car commercial. A coach from another school noticed it while here for the Rainbow Classic and told the NCAA. UH got hit hard as the NCAA also uncovered other infractions.and the program was terrible for a few hundred years.
Pride and Redzone . . .
Thank you for the reminder!!!
Done.
Is anyone believing USC’s only violation is the Reggie Bush case? I am in the camp that Reggie Bush is the only one who got caught. On the flip side, which power team is not cheating? This is kinda like steroids. Everyone is taking them, only the stupid and carless get caught.
This whole thing with student athlete’s working for others is a very fine line that they have to walk, what makes it bad are the agents who see nothing but $$$$$, an they don’t care anything about the student.
Oldie . . .
Thanks for the DVD! Whoo-hoo!!!
Manoa Mist: mahalo for the kind words, it takes a village, and we have a great village
Steve M.: mahalo kind sir
To ALL THE TSAIKOS mahalo for all the love….life isn’t about what you make it, it’s what you make your life about…..
Bulla,
Life gives you stink fish, make bagoong. 😆
(Who get da green mango?)
Waco (the city where Baylor is) newspaper says that Texas and Texas A&M cannot agree about which conference they should be in.
NCAA has been stomping on mid-major schools. Nice to hear they did it to
a BCS school.
As of this time Tsaiko Nation the game with you good folks is still on BUT this story is swarming with NEW FACTS as USC is under damage control with a legal team being prepared to over turn the NCAA ruling especially the reduction of scholarships and length of probation.
Tommy Trojan is coming out with the Wooden Horse and NCAA Julius Cesar has FIRED the first arrow as University Of Spoil Children is not liking their ice cream with no chance of a bowl season at this time !
Texas A&M might go to the SEC and then Utah could be part of the Pac-16! Note that Baylor officials were at the meeting between Texas and Texas A&M…so, they are probably the leak for the Waco newspaper.
Bulla,
Happy B-day!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! BULLA!!!
Garret,
With Coach Mack’s statement not a surprise. If you are the kingpin why move.
Speaking of ice cream.
I haven’t had mochi ice cream in a while. I wonder if it’s still the same…
Any unsupervised workouts today?
Papajoe2: I am too familiar with the Honolulu Ford Commercial in which Bruce O’ Neil could not finish the season and a good Hawaii team that had so much potential became unravel as Rick Pitino took over the last 7 games and freshmen star Reggie Carter transfered to St. Johns, George Lett to Centenary and Henry Hollingsworth to Hofstra as NCAA came down on two years probation as ALL those guys had cars, condo and boosters taking GREAT care of them. I came in the following year not knowing about the infractions in fact I remember an NCAA Investigator coming to my home interagating me that you folks gave me a car and money to sign with you as I was truthful and naive that I knew nothing about the violations as an athletic board of trustee called me to find out what I have been through and got on the phone “QUICKLY” to stop further harrasment as I was taken by his accusation being just 18 and signing the letter of Intent just weeks ago after my visit.
Still I came and Enjoy ALL my college experiences despite not being responsible for infractions occured from that 1975-76 Rainbow Basketball Season known famous for the “Honolulu Ford Commercial” !
Have s good evening Tsaiko Nation as I am off with my young teenagers for a program called Impacting Hearts as devotions, fellowship and personal testimony is the order of Faith, Wisdom and Prayer !
Will keep you inform on the USC down fall as I get it “first hand” from many USC supporters, alumni and LA media !
Vaya Con Dios !
come on Celtics, do it right, beat the Lakers.
Pride ~ Thanks for the information about where to donate for coach Hefernan’s daughter, Hilina’i. Definitely a charity that the Tsaiko faithful will make room in their hearts to support.
Any word on who is going to end up being our WR coach?
http://coachingtree.blogspot.com/2010/06/hawaii-wide-receivers-coach.html
There has to be some footage of the Honolulu Ford Commercial….i vaguely remember seeing it. It is a piece of Hawaii Rainbow Athletics history!
Wow, listening to Lane Kiffin’s comments on ESPN site
“USC is a powerful university…”
“USC has a powerful football program…”
“won’t hurt our recruiting…”
No contrition.
Methinks someone doesn’t quite get it…..yet.
If they banned the coaches and AD personnel at the offending universities from ever working with kids again, maybe people like Kiffen will disappear.
Happy birthday, Bulla!
Go Celts!
According to the NCAA financial reports database, it appears that the cost-cutting around the country has resulted in more than half of Athletic Departments around the country either breaking even or making a profit! A few years ago, almost all schools lost money on Athletics. So, we can’t use the excuse that every school loses money on Athletics…
In the WAC, the schools that lost money are:
UH -$2.2 million
Nevada -$1.8 million
SJSU -876k
However, 2/3 of the Athletic Departments in the WAC made money!
Utah State $502
La Tech $13k
Idaho $29k
BSU $61k
NMSU $214k
Fresno State $1.3 million
For the MWC, BYU, Air Force, and TCU are private institutions that didn’t have to provide their numbers. However, *all* the Athletic Departments that reported their figures showed that their Athletic Departments made a profit!
Utah $4.2 million
New Mexico $1.4 million
Colorado State $1.0 million
SDSU $932k
Wyoming $520k
UNLV $300k
Four Pac-10 Athletic Departments lost money:
Oregon -$131k
Arizona -$1.1 million
Washington -$2.2 million
UC-Berkeley -$7.9 million
D-1 ~ I wonder if it will really cause USC any real heartburn. Money usually fixes the problem sooner than expected.
BULLA! HAUOLI LA HANAU, MY FRIEND!
Kekoa,
Not according to Lane Kiffin! 😆
What the heck is Fresno State doing right???
OH YEAH!!! $5,000,000.00 IN ATHLETICS FEES!!!!!!!!!!!! 😈
Nytal!
Hoping for positive outcome for the UH and the conference realignments, and a wonderful trip and stunning performances for Liz!

Coach Dana is a very down to earth person. You cannot not want to help her program. Told her to set up an account with AKA if she hasn’t done so already. I’m sure the Tsaikos will be there to help.
BTW
thanks to Stretch, PP, myki, mjmacro and al for a good time last night.
… if this hasn’t been posted …
Trapasso gets new contract from UH
By Star-Advertiser Staff
POSTED: 05:11 p.m. HST, Jun 10, 2010
Hawaii baseball coach Mike Trapasso and athletic director Jim Donovan came to agreement today on terms for a new contract.
The new deal is for a guaranteed minimum of two year, and possibly four years based on the Rainbows reaching the NCAA tournament.
Monetary details were not immediately available.
Congratulations Coach Trapasso.
You’re quite welcome Kekoa.
Hppy Birthday Big Guy!
I would bet a lot of the schools posting a profit increased their student activity fees in the past year. At San Diego State, one of the two fees that athletics draws from increased from $77 to $175 last Fall.
There is a Wahine basketball account on AKA’s website.
Is this $502.00 or $502,000.00?
Either way, Utah State Aggie football attendance has to be bad and unless they are charging an arm, a leg, and a torso, for men’s basketball, there is NOTHING else at Logan, Utah.
BUT I think they charge the largest athletic fee of any WAC school, just under $300.00.
I think the contract for Coach Trap is fair. Keep da buggah on a short leash. 😎
AKA has an account set up for most sports.
Like Matt speculates, I’m wondering how much subsidy those athletic departments get from their institution above and beyond what the athletic department takes in. Betcha there are a lot of moneyed donors attached to some of those campuses. BUT you are right.. UH needs to find a way..
Sounds like a 1st grader trying to give his verbal book report to the class.
This book was good.
I like this book.
The Little Engine was very strong.
I like this book.
EVEN CHEERLEADING!!!
I highlighted “the way”.
Hey Kazz
wbb is my next team to contribute to.
I picked up a WBB booster club membership form at the last game of the season last year. You can sign on if you wish.
Duffer or Whitey,
When do you think you guys can return to Oahu during the Fall/Spring 10-11 seasons?
and “boom” goes the dynamite.
*In case anyone was wondering..
The Rainbowtique website will be down until tomorrow morning for maintenance.
Maybe we can invite Coach Dana to the blog bash in Aug.
And Bob Coolen.
I wonder if Coach Dana and Coach Coolen would like to smash some golf balls in their “down” time?
There is a driving range involved at the blog bash. 😛
It is pretty ironic that Missouri started this whole conference realignment situation with the Big 12 and Big 10…and now the Big 10 doesn’t want Missouri.
Trap?
Even though the Big 10 doesn’t want Missouri, they are *still* refusing to pledge loyalty to the Big 12.
The Big East is apparently ready to invite Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State, and Missouri if/when they are left behind in the Big 12. That means that only Baylor would be left behind.
Rumors are that Texas A&M and Oklahoma are close to going to the SEC. Texas and Notre Dame might be going to the Big 10. Crazy stuff.
Oklahoma’s QB coach said (possibly jokingly) that they are going to the SEC.
The Houston Chronicle gave its take on the situation.
It might help UH if the Pac-16 did *not* happen. Then the Pac-10 would take Utah and the Big 12 would still be around and would take a few others from the MWC. That would put UH and the WAC in a much better position.
The worst thing that could happen would be for the MWC to be able to grab teams like Kansas and become an AQ conference with a bigger TV presence. The revenue between the MWC and WAC would then become much, much bigger.
Hiya!
Getting ready to head out on the first leg of my great India adventure. I’m feeling a little like Colombus with a GPS.
Next stop LA.
A hui hou!
Anyone know how get numbered entries on the iPad?
I have them on my iPhone.
Both are using Safari as the browser.
Happy Birthday Brother Bulla!!!
I vaguely remember the infamous Honolulu Ford commercial that had UH BB players in it, along with J Aku Head Pupule. I also recall seeing UH players driving new Fords around town and campus. The rest is history and UH Basketball paid dearly for it. I guess there was no compliance officer back then. Just an NCAA manual collecting dust on a shelf in one of the portables in the Lower Campus back then.
Garret, thanks for your constant research and great insight on the conference moves that are, and may be going to happen. You are a master of making sure that your insight is backed by super information!
happy bday bulla! hope you finally got to wear those boots!
garret, i’ll be in your neck of the woods next week. maybe we can meet up somewhere.
Safe travels, MsLiz!
MAHALO TO ALL WHO THOUGHT OF ME TODAY, IT IS SPECIAL BECAUSE OF FRIENDS LIKE YOU
Coach Heffernan is walking from Hauula to the Variety school near the Diamond Head crater. All for the love of his disabled daughter.
That’s a distance of about 37 miles. DRIVING 37 miles on this island wears me out! See Pride’s post above for the contact information if you want to help our hard working coach reach his goal.
Good luck coach, may the wind always be at your back, and the road rise up before you. Eh! No run ovah da coach, drive safe!
Ms Liz ~ You going 3 back to go 2 forward? India by way of LA LA land? Bwhahaha! Aloha & Stay safe out dere!
Night all!
Happy B-day Bulla!! (what’s left of it, that is 🙂 )

Sick and tired of the waiting. Wish Texas would just make their desicion public and get this all over with.
its wonderful stuff you written up in here. Had been searching for this everywhere. Good work
This is interesting. I forgot how much money the remaining schools could make from the penatly fees. The remaining 5 schools could try to broker a football alliance with the Big East but remain the Big 12 in name.
Officials from five Big 12 schools — Kansas, Missouri, Kansas State, Iowa State and Baylor — held a conference call on Saturday, The Kansas City Star reported. The schools agreed they would like to continue as members of the Big 12.
The five potential teams that could be left in the Big 12 if the exodus of five others continues to the Pac-10 would be wise to remain together, a conference commissioner with experience dealing with expansion told ESPN.com’s Andy Katz.
The reason is simple: The five remaining schools would be due a huge payday and ultimately could salvage automatic berths to the NCAA tournament and possibly the BCS through expansion themselves.
The commissioner, who didn’t want to be identified because he’s involved in the ongoing realignment of college athletics, told Katz it would be critical for Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Baylor and Iowa State to maintain the Big 12 as an entity or corporation.
“The assets, the amount of money that they would be due by exit fees back to the corporation would be huge,” said the commissioner. “Rather than dissolve the Big 12, they are better off as a Big 12 entity then moving to the Mountain West.”

pretty useful information, men , congratulations, if you want i have some related topics on my web page, my url is linked to my page.
Well played Texas, well played, All this hype for nothing and you get everything you want.
Anyone else feel today’s announcement was just a bit anticlimatic?
The Big 12 has 10 schools, the Big 10 has 12 – Perfect, I had a hard enough time explaining to my girlfriend why it made sense the Big 10 had 11 schools.
Someone please stop the horns! I tried to give the World Cup a chance, but I’d even turn off the Superbowl if there was the same annoying background noise.
Have you ever considered adding more videos to your blog posts to keep the readers more entertained? I mean I just read through the entire article of yours and it was quite good but since I’m more of a visual beginner,I found that to be more helpful well let me know how it turns out

Hi, also love the Toy Story movies, super movie!
Like Avatar too.
My cat is wild when seeing these sort of films!!
I have arrived to my determination that your post head “

I will probably get flamed for what I’ll say next.I do not wanna watch the Colts, even though I grew up in Texas. What can someone hate on about Peyton? He is got game gifted by Jesus, don’t forget Daddy Arch, and he says hes a to be a low key guy. Every time somebody mentions his killer records Peyton says something to the liking of “I just feel humbled to be mentioned in the same breath as those players”.The Holy Ones 31 The Baby Horses 28
This could be one of the most authoritative post I ever learned in a long time, I’m speaking about this component of your post “… did the Big 12 become the developmental league for other conferences? All of which might be good for the WAC….” it also bring back to mind about the day I came across my husband.
interesting blog. It would be great if you can provide more details about it. Thanks you
I’m glad we come to an agreement about this. I study each individual morning and just stopping by to say appreciate it!!
