Hands up!

Greg McMackin has implemented a new policy: Don’t take a knee.
With the increased emphasis on conditioning, the Warriors have been told not to ever hunch over, with their hands on their knees, during practices.
“We dont let anybody bend over,” McMackin said. “If they bend over, they’re too tired to play.”
The Warriors have worked their way into shape in a program implemented by Saint Louis Rams’ conditioning coach Dana LeDuc and maintained by UH’s Mel deLaura and Tommy Heffernan.

It was a night of fun, singing, food, celebration and, in the end, tears.
Our karaoke call, attended by more than 50, featured the Bomb Squad (they made their own Jaegermeister T-shirts), Caryn Kunz’s amazing singing, a brithday celebration for Kelli Miura, and a fond farewell for Frank, Rob25’s husband.
Frank leaves Tuesday for his third tour of duty, this time to Iraq. He’ll be there a year. Thing is, Frank’s only concern is for his soldiers, 19-year-old guys who are going to look to him for leadership and guidance in a place where the days are long and sleep is not peaceful.
We wish for good health and safety for Frank and the others who serve our country.

Here are James, Frank and A-Joe:

    Hello neighbor:

Agree with Coach Mack’s new guideline.

Worst thing a tired player can do is “haunch over” as it causes the lungs to collapse.

Best thing to do is stand straight up and extend your arms over your head to allow more lung space.

I love the new conditioning program. The guys are looking better and better!

Redskins coach Jim Zorn find room for improvement in 3-0 Redskins

ASHBURN, Va. — With the pre-season more than half over, it’s become quite clear that there is no need to read between the lines when listening to Washington Redskins coach Jim Zorn evaluate a game. He tells it like it is and isn’t afraid to needle anybody, but does so with such an upbeat attitude that even the players getting picked on are probably chuckling along.

Take quarterback Colt Brennan, the sixth round pick from Hawaii who threw the winning touchdown pass in the fourth quarter of Saturday night’s 13-10 victory over the New York Jets. Brennan has put up impressive numbers in two of three games – helping the Redskins to a 3-0 start – and some of the faithful are ready to anoint him as The Next Great Thing.

Zorn’s message on Sunday: Get real. Delivered in much nicer words, of course, and accompanied by a smile.

“I just don’t want to splash the water on him yet, you know what I mean?” Zorn said. “Here’s the thing: He’s had great vision, he’s made some heads-up plays, and we’ve had success. I really like all that. Maybe I want more, but I want better technique. I want him to use the kind of techniques that are going to take him further down the road. Remember we were talking differently last week after the Buffalo game: ‘Oh, Colt came down to Earth.’ Well, now he’s in outer space again.”

Translation: Brennan, destined to spend the season as the third-string quarterback, is a raw rookie who would probably be pummelled to bits if he were to play against a good starting defence.

“From my standpoint, I think he’s doing OK,” Zorn said. “He’s having fun, but there’s a lot more distance that he has to go. He shouldn’t be strutting his stuff.”

“The Skins trailed 7-3 at the half and then the team’s exchanged field goals in a sloppy second half making it 10-6. Then with just over two minutes to play, Brennan woke up New York and then proceeded to light it up.

On the first play of the drive, Brennan completed a 37 yard pass to Billy McMullen into Jets territory. Three plays later, he avoided the blitz and completed a pass to tight end Jason Goode who took it 33 yards for the score.”

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/48333-colt-brennan-the-best-player-no-one-wanted

“Colt Brennan: The Best Player No One Wanted”
“…The preseason means nothing to the fans, but Colt Brennan may be proving something to the Redskins management. However, the best passer in college football history will need to prove himself against tougher defenses this season. I expect Brennan to take some snaps early this season and possibly even starting at the end of the season if the Redskins clinch a spot or are eliminated from playoff contention altogether.”

  19. chawan_cut August 17, 2008 10:49 am

    Stephen,
i heard that yesterday from coach mack as they were running their sprints after practice.
    he was yelling.
    Stand Up!
    Stand Up Like Men!
We’ll be Standing up in the 4th Quarter in Florida!
They’ll be bending over and we’ll be standing up!

that was great to hear and you could really see the players listen and gain an extra boost.

  20. BowsForever August 17, 2008 10:51 am

Sheesh, Coach Mack is dead serious about conditioning for Florida. Hopefully this (I guess necessary) training isn’t a major cause for those injuries to Blaze, Rocky, Adam, Solly, etc.

Looked at some highlight footage of the Redskins-Jets game and seems like Colt did a great job in his 2-minute drill. You gotta love how Zorn keeps a nice big anvil over the lid of the boiling-over pot that is Coltmania. Raw? Well duh, he’s a rookie. Refinement? He’s not gonna pick up the system overnight…”flashcard offense” Campbell has the best shot of that.

Exciting potential? Oh hell yes. Third-string QB all through this season who’s destined for a trade one or two years down the road? With Zorn at the helm and his aggressive campaign of keeping Brennan humble and massively underselling him, don’t count on it.

  21. bighilofan2 August 17, 2008 10:54 am

    BowsForever,

    you are nostradamus reborn. 😀

  22. gigi-hawaii © August 17, 2008 10:56 am

Redskins 3-0. Gotta love it! Go, Colt!

  23. Stephen Tsai August 17, 2008 10:58 am

I think Zorn is playing mind games.
First, you think the J-E-T-S think they went with a lesser defense? That’s kind of insulting. If you’re on an NFL roster, you’re a good player.
Now, he should be ripping the other QBs, too, but he won’t because they’re the ones feeling insecure. And if thinks Colt is such a project, hey, send him to the J-E-T-S. I’m sure they’d rather have him than Clemens or Ainge.

  24. Stephen Tsai August 17, 2008 11:00 am

    Chawan:
All I know is that I was bent after practice.

  25. gigi-hawaii © August 17, 2008 11:00 am

I saw Colt’s interview after the game last night. He was so boyish and humble. Don’t change, Colt.

  26. gigi-hawaii © August 17, 2008 11:02 am

Isn’t hands on the knees better than standing erect with arms folded?

  27. madeinhawaii August 17, 2008 11:04 am

Speaking of Colt. You guys should do a search on Ebay for Colt Brennan. Things were getting out of hand when he was at UH but now.. whoa! It’s nice to see the “good” things following him into the NFL.

their adjustments were day to day, last minute.
total focus, total dahmenashun da jamaican!

i sure hope our coaches are making adjustments all the way through the next 12 days!!! i gonna be doin my part, screamin from da goal line row 37 prolly.

(note to self… don’t get on the wrong side of the law with bhf2 around)

ST- it has been very hard even as a fan to stuff our enthusiasm for Colt. Mainland fans seem to enjoy a combative stance on both sides of an issue. I guess they haven’t heard about win-win philosophies.

But I agree with your assessment of Zorn. He knows what he has in Colt and wants to get him fully fleshed out before he puts him in the slingshot and lets fly.

Rob25- my #2 son’s best friend is back home for a couple of days before he leaves on his first deployment. God Bless and protect the human beings who are being put in harm’s way, and keep safe and secure the human beings who are left behind.

But there is nothing like Tsai-ko love and humor to keep us all HUMAN, eh?
So glad you two were able to enjoy the KK last night!!!

Nice plays and win for the team with that throw for a TD; hope you’re ok from any falls. Really awesome play! Not surprising but surreal, just seeing you be you the way I remember you healthy and happy.

Remember to keep safe, being humble as always, and doing the right things I already see you doing.

And please too, remember to avoid “the” distractions that would not keep you on your toes and in tip top shape! As your hanai mom/auntay, would like to see you reach and surpass your wildest hopes and dreams…Keep thinking surpass!

Everyday I’m gonna post stuff about the State Contractor’s License Board and Dennis Sadowski’s supporters on the State Contractor’s License Board: FM SCOTTY ANDERSON, JOE KINDRICH, and the Board’s chair TADY ARISUMI. They helped create this problem, they’re in the chair until this problem is resolved. I am going to follow up on this so called Advisory, or rule. how it came to be, how it was published and had 30 days notice, or not, what UH did about it as part of the bid process, or not.

You guyz remember Larry David and Curb Your Enthusiasm. Had a great show once. He forgot to make a cake for his kid’s schoolclass, and when he remembered he only had 20 minutes to get to da school wit da cake and the directions on the cake box said 350 degrees for 20 minutes minutes, something like that. So larry made the cake by turning up the heat to 2000 degrees for 5 minutes, then covered the black thing with frosting.

I’m thinking the same thing for Sadowski’s complaint. 😀 gonna cook dat bugga supah fass!

    kelli,
i tried to look for child sized Colt Rinskins jerseys, but they haven’t made them yet. if he keeps having the success he’s having hopefully they’ll start to produce them.
unfortunately, Colt will still hold a clipboard this year. the NFL politics and the $$$ factor will have keep Campbell starting. Gotta hope Zorn wins games this year though, as he’s the one that got Colt on the team. NFL teams have become really impatient over the years and want to WIN NOW. not many organizations allow for proper build up of a team and usually fire coaches that don’t produce. hopefully colt can have a steady stable coaching staff to work with and make his way up to a starting role.

It is in your personal interests to know the end game of the DENNIS SADOWSKI protest over the Cook Field Fix contract award. I foresee that you will have a public conflict of interest with the “rule” drafted by Dennis Sadowski and which Dennis Sadowski is trying to stuff down UH’s throat. But don’t take my word for it… each of you figure it out for yourselves… we, and I mean me speakin for John Q Public, won’t put up with anyone slowin down our football nation when they’re doing it for their own personal gain and not caring about the negative impact their action is having on us all trying to build a positive image nationally for Warrior Nation….

  59. stacyj August 17, 2008 12:30 pm

Gonna add one more 2 cents and then I’ll shut up.

    Re: Colt…
Zorn would be a fool to over pump Colt. As humble as Colt is, all that fanfare and success he is having could be damaging for not only Colt but also the rest of the team. It is kinda like being the regular teacher in the classroom and then a student teacher comes in during the second semester. That “rookie” teacher needs to work to earn the respect of the students as well as the teaching staff before everyone says, “yup, she’s is a great teacher.”

Colt will always be dear to our hearts and we can only hope for the best for him. But, at the same time, the truth is, he has a lot to learn and improve on in order to be a historical QB in the NFL. I’d rather see him learn and grow now (into a hall of famer) than flop early and have a short, unsuccessful career in the NFL.

  67. SteveM August 17, 2008 12:42 pm

[groan] Good morning (?) everyone! Great evening, as usual 🙂 Peaches said this morning that she has not been so “bombed” since she was 22 but it was a lot more fun this time. She reports that flight crew added (in alphabetical order) Addahknowjoe, Esme, and Rob25 (was hard to tell with all the people and cameras around during the early bomb runs).

The Bomber shirts, cups, sign and inflated bottle items were genuine Jagermeister issue, courtesy of Dee’s beau, who manages a bar and restaurant in Waikiki…hmmmm.

homey put on his Jagermeister shirt for every bomb run and removed it afterwards. Is there a world record for shirt change speed and frequency?

WreckinEyez was going to set up a light system in the corner but the KK staff stopped him at the door. Maybe 3 guys carrying it in was too obvious? 🙂 Conferred with Wreck at 10:15 PM and we decided that to implement a program would actually slow down the happenings, so we let it ride.

Stretch indicated the finances were OK so no reminder announcements were made. However, if in all the fun and distractions you forgot to pay him, please make arrangements with him. stretch6592 (at) yahoo dot com

“Thank You” to all who could attend! You all made the night special and fun!

  68. UHfan808 August 17, 2008 12:43 pm

    Rob25-
Speaking of blessed. What an honor to meet your hubby at KK last nite. Thank you bringing him to enjoy some time with us before he leaves tomorrow. Looked like he was having a grand time and I saw him singing! May the year pass by quickly and bring him home safe and sound. I’ll have him in my prayers. God bless!

  69. Kelli August 17, 2008 1:09 pm

chawan_cut: Thanks for checking. Keep me posted about the CB Rinskins jerseys for children. I have to go hunting for some UA stuff to get my monkey ready for the season. It’s kinda sad that he has to get used to seeing another QB because he was familiar with CB and TG.

UHfan808: No worries. 🙂 I’ll be at the Hawaii Wahine Football Clinic on Tuesday. Are you coming to that? My mom wanted me to go with her. I was actually planning to catch up on my Korean drama before school starts, but maybe not. And I’ll be there in full force on August 30 at Genji’s. I think there’s myself plus four, so we’ll have plenty of time to talk.

Stretch and a-joe: Thank YOU for the stickers. Sorry, I should have known from the Friday night routine. My mom said she’s sorry she missed last week. Hopefully she and my dad will be back soon, but I know high school football games are around the corner for him.

  70. brew808 August 17, 2008 1:20 pm

Frank (Rob25’s super husband), thank you very much for doing a job that protects all of us in today’s unstable world. Thank you, mahalo, arigato and everything else that says much thanks. Look forward to meeting you on your return.

To the rest of the families of those who will have loved ones going this week, same things, Thank you very much and truly appreciate all that you do.

  72. Kekoa August 17, 2008 1:22 pm

Whoops!…Forgot to mention meeting hawaiianbod at the KK last nite. Good to see him come outta his cave and join the festivities! Introduced wafan to some of the folks he hadn’t had a chance to meet since he’s been home on vacation.

My hanai brother Bulla from a different planet and his lovely wife were the rage last night. I was wanting to check out his delicious drinks, but my EIS buddy kept shaking his head with a disapproving look.

You know da one where your face come all wrinkled and you look away in ‘disgustion!’…so I had to pretend I was checking the water in my empty glass.

Not a good game for Bess. Too bad, as he was their top slotback entering this game.

    Who hurt themselves

WR Davone Bess: The undrafted rookie, who had moved up the depth chart to No. 3 receiver, had two first-half penalties. The second one negated a first down on the final drive of the first half.

  75. Garret August 17, 2008 1:57 pm

The salaries at the NCAA are a little high to me considering how well they have done lately…

NCAA president Myles Brand received compensation of more than $935,000 in 2006-07, a 4 percent raise from the previous fiscal year, according to public tax documents.

That is more than every public university president in the country, according to the latest survey by the Chronicle of Higher Education, but much less than what many coaches make.

The document also revealed that the NCAA paid $18.6 million for plaintiffs’ attorneys’ fees and a fund for former athletes to settle a class action lawsuit involving limitations on what a scholarship may subsidize. In addition, the NCAA paid $971,000 to a company that provides charter air travel.

The other highest-compensated NCAA employees are executive vice president Tom Jernstedt ($555,803); senior vice president Bernard Franklin ($448,559); chief financial officer James Isch ($428,314); senior vice president Greg Shaheen ($367,183); senior vice president Dennis Cryder ($330,482); vice president David Berst ($320,451, not including previously reported retirement funds); general counsel Elsa Cole ($301,392); and senior vice president Joni Comstock ($275,757).

This LSU player was a *really* big baby!

You can’t really miss the starting guard for the LSU Tigers. He’s 6-8, 350 pounds (give or take 20 pounds ).

Johnson is the largest baby ever born in Louisiana, coming into this world at 15 pounds, 14 ounces.

    Good Afternoon Tsaikos!!

    Re: Bolla
The bad thing about this investigation is that if he is found to have done something that requires termination, practices start in October (I think). That is only 2 months away and we might be left without a coach?? I hope UH has someone in mind if it needs to find a coach. I also heard that he had similar problems at UNLV. Too bad HF gave Bolla a contract extension before he was fired.

  78. UHfan808 August 17, 2008 2:11 pm

Had such a great time last night. Although I was tired and recovering from a mild sore throat/muscle aches from paddling (muscles I didn’t know I had, lol), I could not help but enjoy another great Tsaiko get-together. And while many of our events are not necessarily primarily focused completely on football but organized in the name of it, it’s nice to see we get along in different ways on different levels and can “just” hang out and be friends outside our normal Tsaiko “job.” Keep ’em comin’!!!

    SteveM & Stretch,
Mahalo for coordinating yet another organized, fun-filled event! U bring out the animal in all of us! Hear the Lion roar! grrrrr!

    Bulla,
You’ve got some yummy mojitos and midori margaritas there! ooh-la-la and thank you for sharing you talent!

Thank you all for the delicious grinds! Many ono sushi varieties, salsa & chips, healthy veggie platters, wonton, char siu, beef on a stick, chicken fried and katsu, watermelon, choc/peanut butter & reg rice krispies treats, Kelli b-day cake… yum!

Esme, a-joe, d1’s & Bulla’s other halves, homey (Sorry if I missed anyone!) – This time there was much more room for…Da dancing party animals!!! giggle.

And how about that couples dance by the addahknows!?! Ahhh…So romantic…and sweet…and sung by Pride!

In addition to the delightful Tsaiko “regular” singers — K. Mark Takai sang Love & Honesty with Esme! ST roared again! (Again) Caryn can sing! lakerj32 sings and raps!!! …

The bombers were having a great time. IDK how they do it!?! Did I count 6 or more times???

Last but not least, wow I finally got to meet a few new faces — Kelli and Caryn, wafan, Hawaiinbod and Rob25’s other half Frank! What a pleasure!
    .
    .
There’s so much more…but just wanna say thank to all. What a blast!

Looking forward to seeing everyone at upcoming Tsaiko get-togethers!

  81. BG August 17, 2008 2:25 pm

A fabulous day to all the Tsaiko Friends and lurkers!!!

Another memory for Betty and I last night in Tsaiko-land! Got a face to face meeting with the legendary Esme (only got some glimpses at the Anniversary Party); and met Hawaiianbod for the first (so pleasant and quiet…that’ll change!…the “quiet” I mean). Spent a little time with Rob25’s hubby and quickly found the solid relationship that they share and the competence they have in locking things down for Frank’s deployment.

The variety of talents among the Tsaikos and Tsaikettes is simply awesome…just overwhelmingly AWESOME. Yeah, there was singing and dancing talent oozing everwhere! But, there was also artistic talents from the Addaknows that have formed a cornerstone of Tsaiko culture. It was all over the room on so many shirts and mugs and stickers! I still remember A-Sports “drinking glass” to ST at Genji’s…ROTFLMAO. 😀 SteveM, James, and Stretch all contribute to that storeroom of talent. Tho’ there were plenty of stars, I can’t leave off Mr and Mrs Bulla! Bulla not only runs the best blender, he can sing beautifully at the same time! And, Lyn (WOW), if HECO went off-line, all they’d have to do is plug her in…’nuff energy for the whole island 😆

But, even more impressive than the entertainment…I was touched by the thoughtfulness and consideration that the Tsaiko Ohana has for everyone. As the “Bombers” were starting to kick up the energy level with their initiations, I mentioned that Betty was still very sensitive and had to watch what she ate and drank. A few months ago, while traveling, she and I ate and drank exactly the same things, but, in a few hours, she became violently ill with all the symptoms of food poisoning while I did not. Still, I would not stand in the way of any of her choices. I needn’t have worried…the Bombers made sure she was included in the group, but excused from dropping any bombs. Thank-you Bombers!

    BG

In case anyone was wondering about the redskins.com website, I think there’s some kinda “cookie bug.” I used to be able to watch featured videos all day long without a problem. Delete/block cookies as needed and you’re good to go.

There a 90% chance I’m gonna buy an official Colt Brennan Redskins mini-helmet or jersey or something this season anyway, so I feel absolutely no “guilt” over “getting around” this particular “glitch.”

  85. Jason August 17, 2008 2:37 pm

So, I’m editing pictures taken last night. I’m not going to bother with a private and public album, just one public. So if you don’t want your pictures included … well, too bad! No, just kidding. I’m going to include all the pics, but I’ll black out certain people. I know WarriorMojo is one, but I’m not sure about homey and Esme, since Stephen has “outed” them both. Please let me know if you don’t want to be shown in my album.

stacyj #60 – Colt Brennan is not Timmy Chang, no worries. Zorn knows what he has in Colt, something special. He’s going to bring him along gradually but deep down I know he knows what a great player Colt is going to be!

    re #82 from BG-

I want to reiterate to those non-alcohol-drinking lurkers who may be shy to come to a Tsai-ko event. Don’t let the Bomber and the Blender stories scare you further into lurking. There are several of us who do not drink alcohol at all and still have the best time at Tsai-ko events.

In spite of what Stretch and the Bombers may say… there is no undue pressure to drink if you don’t want to. And if you are on a special diet, NO SHAME about that either. Just bring whatever you like sip and grind and ENJOY the camaraderie, the laughs, and the aloha.

There is good fun for everyone at Tsai-ko get-togethers.

    WOO HOO!

  93. Pauoa Boy August 17, 2008 3:09 pm

I like Coach Mack’s style and how much more organized and disciplined practices are. To be an elite Top 25 team, you have to practice and play like one with no slacking off. Injuries will always be there in football regardless. If players are getting injured because of the way conditioning drills are being held, then that goes to show you, the boys are not in shape and maybe should ride bench! Players that want to play would have prepared themselves and busted there arse in the offseason. This is what seperates great players from just good ones. Players who cut corners and take the easy route will never succeed! A great player is always one who pushes himself beyond limits and excels to be better than he already is!

  96. A-House August 17, 2008 3:13 pm

    Hi Rob25 and Frank:

Deployments can be very stressful for most, if not all, military personel and their families. This applies to any change of station – peace or war time.

A-House family wishes Frank the best as he leads his men on all missions for we know that every decision means the potential loss of men and/or materiel. Frank is a well trained leader and will do his best in any assigned task.

Lucky for me that I met Mrs A-House after my stint in the regular Army, but it was stressful for both of us whenever I had to go to Annual Training for 23 consecutive years.

  97. Pauoa Boy August 17, 2008 3:14 pm

Mahalos HiFlyer, forgot they was playing today…too much Olympic distractions…

  98. Pauoa Boy August 17, 2008 3:23 pm

Uncle Frank…sorry I dunno your rank or I would address you properly, take care and maybe I’ll run into you in the Sandbox. Year long deployment, sheesh…good luck! Aunty Rob25, I admire you as well as all military wives…you are a very rare breed of woman. Not many can deal and put up with the stresses that a military lifestyle brings. It takes a very dedicated, understanding, caring and loving person to be able to do what you do, especially in times such as these. Taking care of the homefront while we take care of our grateful nation is why us military men love women such as yourself and the many others…

That’s what sucks the most, being on the Mainland, not to be able to participate in those fun gatherings.

Coach Mack was a great choice for coach, wasn’t he? The more I see and hear of him, the more I like him. Under his watch we WILL be a top 25 team every year.

    LizK, bhf2,

The Storm is hanging over Cuba right now, moving at 10 M p/h, with 50 M p/h winds. The hope is that it will dissipate there. If it goes into the Gulf and hangs around too long, it could pick up intensity over warmer waters there. In either case it will not affect the game in any form, all remnants are expected to be gone by Friday. Monday and Tuesday will decide what the bugga is going to do.

Good point Liz. I have been kinda involved with all the karaoke calls–and I do not drink (genetic disposition to turn red and fall asleep, although I have an extremely high tolerance to coffee and caffeine).

Most Tsai-kos are non-drinkers or light/moderate sociable drinkers. At Genji’s, our food bill is larger than the bar bill (including $4 diet cokes). Genji’s has been very supportive of the light-drinking Tsai-kos considering what their primary business is…at least we sing pretty good and tip well. 🙂

I do not have extensive data, but another demographic of the Tsai-kos that attend functions is their average age– around 48 by my guess. I almost failed statistics, but I think the ages of 40-60 are within 1 statistical standard deviation (SD). At 3 SD, we find Jason, Kelli, Long Time UH Fan, Tom Mui, etc. How’s my math, Jason and Garret?

  118. Jason August 17, 2008 4:59 pm

3 SD? Cool, Kelli and I consist of 0.13% of the Tsai-kos. 😀

From a 74-person sample (The Warrior Beat form):

I took each HS grad year, and assumed that everyone turned 18 that year. Some might have been 17, some might have been 19, so safe assumption.

    Mean: 46.51. Median: 48. Mode: 50.
    StDev: 13.26. 95% ME: 3.02.

So 68% of the Tsai-kos are within 33.25 to 59.77 years. 95% of the Tsai-kos are within 19.99 to 73.03 years. And 99% of the Tsai-kos are within 6.73 to 86.29 years.

Wow – that got Jason all excited! We normally use 2-sigma. That still allows Jason, Kelli, and a few others just within 2-sigma norm.

BTW – there may be an error in your analysis Jason. You assume that most Tsaikos were 17-19 yrs. at graduation. Actually, there probably were several that pushed 26-30 before being asked to leave! After all… we are the Tsaikos!!! Hehehe….. 😆 😯 😆

  125. Committed Road Warrior August 17, 2008 5:34 pm

    Jason,

You won’t get any complaints from me about your math! I took an Applied Stats course 3 years ago and almost failed it…..and it looks like I might have to take another similarly titled course in the Spring for be able to graduate!

No ask me anything about that stuff…..I wen already forget it all! 🙂

Hey, I didn’t notice this story until now:

    http://www.hawaii.edu/cgi-bin/uhnews?20080814164204

First Friday of each month designated as UH Athletics Pride Days

HONOLULU – University of Hawai‘i president David McClain has designated the first Friday of each month during the academic year, September to May, as “UH Athletics Pride Days” and encouraged all members of the University community to wear their campus colors, or the colors of one of the athletic teams at UH Manoa or UH Hilo.

The designation follows a proclamation by Governor Linda Lingle on February 28 that all State departments may designate one day each month as “UH Athletics Pride Days,” with employees encouraged to wear acceptable attire that promotes UH athletic teams.

To promote UH Athletics Pride Days, all Rainbowtique stores and UH Bookstores systemwide will offer UH employees and students with a valid ID card a 10 percent discount on all regular priced apparel the last weekend of each month (Friday to Sunday), beginning on August 29. They will have a choice of either receiving the 10 percent discount or donating the amount to the Athletics department. The discount ends the weekend of April 24-26, 2009.

  134. Koauka August 17, 2008 6:14 pm

Vince Goo is probably the best game coach I ever saw in any sport. Vince is able to adjust his scheme either on offense or defense immediately. He does not wait around till his team is behind. And is the best at clock management.

Most of all the players, their families, the fans and everyone in Hawaii athletics has the deepest respect for him. But one person, who thought he was in charge, disrespected Coach Vince, and subsequently Vince retired.

I sure miss Coach Vince, as well as, many fans of Wahine BB.

  135. Kelli August 17, 2008 6:22 pm

Just wanted to thank everyone for a wonderful evening of “F”s. Looking forward to seeing the pictures. I think most of the thanks were individually stated by others above which I wholeheartedly ditto.

It was like a long-awaited reunion and to see everyone turn loose with such vivacious energy and camaraderie that in retrospect (like the morning after, after having midori margueritas and feeling it) brings a tear to one’s eye. I look forward to our next one.

    whew,

good fun by one and all. yes Lizk, anyone can come and enjoy the Tsaiko gatherings. i for one am one of those who do not drink also, by choice, but i will be the mixmaster for any event. last night we were serving midori margaritas, mojitos, and moe moe…(the last was the sum total of the first two) haha.

the bombers are now established as a squadron, many in number, and energy level always high…..i will alert Hickam AFB of the new ‘Tsaiko Wing’ Squadron, based in Honolulu, but very, very mobile. The Bulla Bombers are always led by the ever so famous Captain Jaegger (pronounced Yeager), haha.

just a fun night, good to see everyone, more pupus than ever, and some very talented people in the group.

loved seeing Pride get his ‘groove’ on dancing with the 3 lovelies, Esme, Mrs. Bulla, and Homey….. what a sight. and on that note, i might request the filipino male kahiko dance by our resident filipino, mr. homey. personally, i think he should start his own competition, maybe call it the Mary Monarch…i don’t know.

brother james, for the longest time, Pride and I could hear a voice singing but could not locate it…until we looked back and saw your head hovering above the couch in the back corner……..scary, thought you were going below the equator….but you rallied back.

mahalo again to SteveM and Stretch…..like the song said last night…’good times’.

  145. bighilofan2 August 17, 2008 7:27 pm

    bonar,

dis is what i’ve figured out so far. RMY Const. as the general, with Sports Turf Hamocon as the sub, all documented, is the winning bidder. they qualified per the bidding specs. State Contractor Board made up new specification, written first by Dennis Sadowski but eventually put under the name Joe Kindrich, but this new policy was not executed as a rule within the meaning of Chapter 91, HRS. UH did not recognize the Board’s “advisory” as a Rule, and did not know aobut it when it asked for bids for the project. When learning of the new policy, they investigated its legal implications and then called the Board’s statement a “advisory’ and not a Rule. It is this advisory which Dennis Sadowski is hanging his hat, claiming UH made a mistake in awarding the contract to RMY and the sub/Hamocon in violation of the advisory.

So if I’ve got my facts right, and tomorrow I intend to get a copy of the public document-Sadowski’s filed protest, and lay it all out for everyone to see, then he doesn’t hve a legal leg to stand on for his challenge.

Meanwhile, I suggest we all email or write to Jim Donovan, tellin him we support Warrior Nation, want the Cook Field contract moved along asap; i’m gonna countact the UH general counsel’s office tomorrow, find out why there is any hold up in the first place as there is no legal basis to say a rule was violated, and put the Contractor’s Board in its place for allowing its member to use a advisory position, which was not promulgated as a Rule per any Hawaii Admnistrative Rule, to stall Warrior Nation in becoming a bigger national power.

i sldo urge all of you to go to your legislative representative, and ask her/him to make inquiry of Dennis Sadowski’s conduct in this affair. I suggest the State House of Representatives pass a resolution that Dennis Sadowski’s conduct in protesting the bid for the Ching Cook Field Fix is not in the best interest of the State of Hawaii, and thus he be disqualified from submitting bid or doing any work, either as a general or a sub contractor, for one fiscal year. This could affect his ability to bid on State jobs, ie the seat replacement job upcoming at Aloha Stadium which I’m speculating is coming up next year. This is not just about jobs. This is about supporting our university and acting right.

  146. bighilofan2 August 17, 2008 7:37 pm

    bonar,

like i said before, i like fix da field now, period.

meetings, arguing about who said what, what dat means, dats all a bunch of hooey! the bottom line is Dennis Sadowski’s conduct is not in the best interests of Warrior Nation. He’s holdin up the job! He had a chance to be the low bidder. He was not the low bidder. End of subject! wat? he and his friends think i’m not being fair? he is not being fair to our team.

i tink you got me all wrong, bradda. this ain’t boston legal. Sadowski would like this to be boston legal. nope. this is beat down Warrior style.

  147. brew808 August 17, 2008 7:41 pm

is not in the best interests of Warrior Nation

Nor in the best interest of the State of Hawaii.

  148. Koauka August 17, 2008 7:44 pm

    bighilofan2:

So if you sit on the board, no such rule as CONFLICT OF INTEREST?

Must be some kind of ETHICS rule governing this board.

  149. Garret August 17, 2008 7:59 pm

Don’t forget that there may be an open ethics investigation going on now about Sadowski and the rule that was passed seemingly to eliminate the competition. With this protest, I hope that the Ethics Commission looks into this issue!

  150. Garret August 17, 2008 8:00 pm

Best of wishes to Frank and Rob25. I wish Frank a safe deployment and wish Rob25 the best in keeping things together at home while he is gone.

  151. Garret August 17, 2008 8:07 pm

It is too bad that our former AD was so bad in scheduling future games. It looks like it is MUCH more expensive to get nonconference opponents to travel now, even without considering how much more travel costs are! Ever since the NCAA expanded the schedule to 12 games per team (not counting the Hawaii exception), nonconference opponents are in greater demand.

Teams are already asking for $1 mil for a road game if there is no return game at their home stadium (UH got a lot of those deals in the past because the Hawaii exception allows for teams to travel to Hawaii for an extra game). And that is NOT considering the added travel cost to fly a team to Hawaii!

The $900,000 UT is paying Florida Atlantic is the most the Longhorns have ever cut to get an opponent to visit Austin. FAU will receive another $900,000 for a 2010 game at Royal-Memorial Stadium.

Texas can afford it, though. With the expansion of the stadium to 94,113 seats this season, UT expects to gross about $5 million for each home game.

Nevertheless, the cost of luring opponents from smaller NCAA Division I-A or Division I-AA schools is escalating. That’s especially true after the NCAA went to a 12-game regular season in 2006, and teams needed to find extra opponents.

Worley remembers when he began negotiating for UT football opponents in the late 1980s. The first no-return game he booked was with North Texas for the 1992 season. UNT accepted a $175,000 guarantee.

Good luck getting a deal like that now.

The increased cost of buy games has caused the Aggies, who gross about $3.5 million per home game, to examine their scheduling philosophy, Byrne added.

“It means we’re always going to have a I-AA (team) on the schedule because you can get them for $300,000,” he said. “Everybody is doing it, and fiscally we’ve got to do it as well.”

At Troy University in Alabama, the 2008-09 athletic department budget is approximately $11 million. About $1.5 million of it will come from sending the Trojans’ football team to Ohio State and LSU.</blockquote.

  154. Homie August 17, 2008 8:23 pm

I am really with coach Macks decision to keep the guys off there knees, that and always running to the ball will greatly increase their motors on the field… I am a little concerned with the roster this year… there seems to be somethings that just arent true. I am a fan of mililani football and have been since Millwood started coaching and still am today with Arcenauxs squad, the thing that bothers me is how they write Cadiz as a three year vars who helped out the team, I dont want to sound like a “hater” but with kids like Isiah Lawelawe and Jordan Torres on the team the same years Cadiz played, Joey never had a chance to take even one snap, I don’t think he ever recorded any yards in all his years playing. Jordan Torres was the three year vars star for Mililani and as his Uncle I dont like seeing his credit be passed on to those undeserving… Well anyway I like the kids work ethic, but I just hope he hasn’t lied his way there. Kawika Orneilas on the other hand is a great well playing kid who should do GREAT for UH, he will contribute greatly for this team whether he redshirts this year or not because on the field he puts in work

  155. FloridaTed August 17, 2008 8:26 pm

    bighilofn2.

I’m glad we have you on our team.

Thinking logically, this should have been an open and shut case and should never have been allowed to reach the point it is at. I’m glad that you’re exposing the shibai of this guy very ably. Sadowski is one under handed operator. We finally get all the ducks lined up to finally fix that field and this bastard has to throw a wrench into the process in the most unethical way possible.

I can’t believe that the other board members were so stupid and went along with this total B.S. I’m really glad you’re stirring the pot.

  156. FloridaTed August 17, 2008 8:30 pm

    bhf2,

have you talked to Mark Takai yet. I’m surprised we haven’t heard from him yet.

  157. Rob25 August 17, 2008 8:41 pm

    Thanks Garrett!

He’s ready to go and get this over with. Just very concerned about the boys. I’ve been through this before and now the kids are older, so we’ll be fine. Plus what more could I ask for, I have a great family and an even greater Tsaiko family to rely on.

    Good night everyone!

  158. Stretch August 17, 2008 8:45 pm

    Re: #155

I haven’t followed Mililani football so not sure of who was the “star” of the team but I don’t see anything wrong with what is written about Cadiz. If it said he “led team win division championship” then you might have a case if your nephew was the star.

BTW – he is “helping” the team this year even though he will probably not smell any action this year. He running with the scout team which prepares the defense for the game.

  159. brew808 August 17, 2008 8:50 pm

Addahknowsports — excellent summation. The “intermediate” and “large” karaoke calls generates it’s own energy. Last night was the full moon and the Tsai-ko stars were shining!

When I got home last night I sat back and realized that the big call was over. When is the next? Would I look crazier than normal for talking about the next one yet? Yeah….but what the heck…

…no large or super large Karaoke Calls until probably January 2009. The season is fast approaching! Of course, small size calls might be squeezed in and an intermediate size one is not totally impossible

Already, if our missing karaoke regulars could all attend last night, the big KK room would be too small. It should be adequate for while yet, but next year I might have to take the original PLAN A off the shelf if we have 60 or more attendees.

As a side note, if the 3rd Anniversary Blog Party (July 2009) is on a Saturday night and at a location where we can run until midnight or more, then I hope we can build in a karaoke component after the main program presentations are done.

Anyway, thanks again for contributing to the fun of last night’s Karaoke Call and a special thanks to d1shima, Mrs. Bulla, and Esme for cranking the electricity generator! 🙂

Hey, gangies, finally back. Had to stagger through a day of work and being on the road while still recovering from the decimation of last night’s festivities. But I hear there were other Tsaikos who stayed much, much later than I — jeez, and I thought I helped close down the place. Evidently, I thought wrong. 😉

So, about last night. (No, not THAT ‘about last night.’)

    1. Beeeg mahalo to each and every Tsaiko who made that classic (!) evening possible. Stretch and SteveM, thanks so much for organizing. We couldn’t do it without you.

    2. I had the privilege of sharing the mikes with some truly great singers last night, including A-Joe, James, Mark, Mrs. Bulla. Also got to share the makeshift dance floor with Mrs. Bulla, the Original Dancing Queen, plus Pride (I never thought I’d see the day!), homey (ditto!), James, A-Joe and many other Tsaikos who just rocked the place. At first glance it might’ve looked like just craziness — and on some level that’s what it was. But when you guys and gals break it down like that, you’re also sharing a lot of your heart and spirit and a lot of trust. It’s beautiful to see. Thank you.

    3. Aww, thanks, honestly, for the nice things some of you have said about my singing/croaking/random yelling. You folks might recall my posts some months ago where I explained how not so long ago I used to be the gal who sat quietly in the corner at karaoke parties. So your encouragement, and your kind words (however undeserved), mean a lot to me.

    4. Pauoa Boy, re: the shirt. I am just going to categorically deny everything incriminating said and shown about me on this blog … and then also add: It’s all Mrs. Bulla’s and the Bombers’ fault. 😆 😆 😆

    5. Jason: I e-mailed you about the photos and vids. BTW, great singing, son!

Poof! The illusion of sweet innocence is forever lost….

What? I had an illusion of sweet innocence about me? Why am I always the last to know these things?! 😆

    9. Caryn can SO sing. I bow down at her feet.

    10. ST, you are the maypole about which this entire continuous party revolves.

I know I will think of more as the evening goes on. …

  183. al August 17, 2008 11:11 pm

    graphic….esme.
i am unable to expell the vision of ST as a maypole with his major kind grin as esme and the bombers go merrily about the pole, er, st i mean.

  184. chawan_cut August 17, 2008 11:11 pm

    esme,
you and caryn are our own advertiser idols…. you are too humble. your duet with Rep Takai has no words to describe it. i felt sorry for anyone who had to sing after you.

  185. Esme August 17, 2008 11:29 pm

I’m confused along with Liz. Does Homie = Homey?

  186. chawan_cut August 17, 2008 11:31 pm

    or is homie japanese?
    like tomie?
    ho-mi-eh?
or maybe he’s still dancing away from last night.

  187. SteveM August 17, 2008 11:52 pm

Thank you.

Esme — thank you for the comment and great observation! The Karaoke Call Tsai-kos have brought camaraderie to another level, and you cemented your place in the future history of the Tsai-kos last night!

Peaches made a private observation to me that some newcomers might watch with some trepidation–but you hit it on the head by noting the “heart and spirit and a lot of trust” present. Gonna put this one right next to homey’s “At my age, I never thought I’d make new friends again”.

So, lurkers — it’s never too late to come out–and football season’s almost here!

    – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

BTW– while Esme has been inducted into the Bulla’s Bombers, she is BONAFIDE TSAI-KO! I guess she was saving her Tsai-ko shirt for Tuesday’s clinic. 🙂

I just put up a few pix (5) in the “Cattle Call” photo page too.

    Good night everyone!

Hi, Liz! I guess we’re both working late. 😀

SteveM, I had my Tsaiko shirt with me in my bag. But within five minutes of arrival Lyn was telling me to put on a Bomber shirt. Would YOU have dared refuse her? 😉

Good morning Tsaikos everywhere. Waking up to do some work so I can go Florida next week.
    wooot woooot~~~

Garrett, Florida Ted, Koauka, Tom Mui,
    Brew 808

thanks guyz for the props. dis is wat i’m tinkin
about Dennis Sadowski’s legal moves. Conflict of interest? technically prolly not cuz Joe Kindrich wen use his name on da paperwork at the Board, so its not Sadowski’s paper. I gotta see da paperwork first to make sure i got the facts straight, but pretty sure one of his friends wen “author” da paypah and he abstained from voting because “conflict of interest.”
But still yet, da Board’s akshun is not a Rule. Plus, whateva yu call wat day did, wat day did was “secret” from UH an wasn’t part of da bid process.

So now you get Tady Arisumi, FM Scotty Anderson, Joe Kindrich ~ Dennis Sadowski is hiding behind all their skirts. he neva go legal enuf fo Rule 11. but he did go fah enuf fo irritate Warrior Nation.

    Brew808,
yu no, I jus luv dis Warrior Nation stuff. State of Hawaii, choke on board fo dat. Warrior Nation, errybody aboard for dat!!! even da homeless…
the vibe builds all us up, plus da Warriors are into being Warriors.

I heard JJ left because “facilities.” akchally, I tink he left cuz get plenny Dennis Sadowski type peeps runnin Hawaii govt. i no kea if da Dennis Sadowski types mess up da budget, mass transit, DHHL, DLNR, UH BOR, DAGS, DOT… but wen day mess up our hopes and our future, like da jv program, or the Ching Cooke Field Fix, then they’ve crossed da line… time fo akshun jackson kine moves from us all.
He thinks he’s entitled to protection/review as part of the “process”? phfffttttt! They teach that at Iowa State? Lets call it for what it is.. a stall job…

    see yu laterz dis evening….

    hi ho hi ho
    esme 😀 woooshhh….

  195. bighilofan2 August 18, 2008 1:05 am

    DENNIS SADOWSKI

read my post 195. this ain’t about $21,000. this is about you holding up the field fix.

you no like listen to your friends? you think you’re right? you ever ask yourself if what you’re doing is the right for the State? for our team? you’re full of yourself, Dennis Sadowski. this “dispute” is gonna grind you down. i hope your friends cut you loose before you grind them down too. after all, this is politics….. hey hey, you’re in the way..

  196. NYUH August 18, 2008 2:20 am

    ST:

I’m curious why you use J-E-T-S instead of Jets?

I was very pleased with the game although most of it was quite boring. I had doubts about Brett but he did good and despite being a long-time Jet fan, I was thrilled that Colt won his third game for Washington. Loved seeing it in HD. Hopefully UH games will be in HD next year although I’m used to watching them gleefully streaming off the web.

  200. Stretch August 18, 2008 5:52 am

    Good Morning Tsaikos!!

One thing I learned on Saturday is that the team sleeps at the dance studios in the Athletic Complex BUT they eat at the dorm cafeteria.

After practice, they went back to the locker room, showered up then walked back up to the cafeteria to eat. After eating, they walk back down to the studios to rest or meetings. If there is an afternoon practice, they have to do the same thing for dinner.

That is a long way to walk for the meals. I always thought that meals were served outside the Ed Wong room, like during the season.

  201. Kekoa August 18, 2008 5:58 am

No problem…1st T-gate on Sep 6 for Webulla State goin’ be one good fun jam session and our own pigskin pigout!

From da start, we goin’ be jammin’ right tru da season!

  214. Bulla August 18, 2008 6:33 am

    aloha Tsaikos,
whew, what a night, i have my favorites for our next disco/r&r dance contest…and do we have some entrants……even our very own Pride can tear it up…..ouch. my hat off to that gentle giant.

i am going to nominate koakane and james for the next MADD commercial, you guyz figure out the rest.

as i mentioned to Lizk on the blog yesterday, there are a lot of us who do not partake of the beverages at k-calls. Pride, myself, and KK on this past evening were designated drivers, just driving everyone nutz. however, i do enjoy being the master mixologist…..ask my victims, ooops, i mean happy customers……you know who you are.

have a blessed day, back to paperwork.

  215. Bulla August 18, 2008 6:35 am

    kekoa,

haha, let’s not get too personal with that ‘webulla’ state stuff…haha, that is pretty good.

did i tell you that for all of your love and support for da beast, i am giving away weber mementos? i know homey, you want either the 22″ of the gas grill…..but it’s pronounced ‘weeeeeeeeee-ber’, not like the grill company, sorry.

it’s going to be a great Tsaiko-gate for one and all! cannot wait.

  216. Bulla August 18, 2008 6:36 am

of not of…..fingers sleeping, along with my brain still yet

  217. Kekoa August 18, 2008 6:37 am

A-Sports ~ Thanks for ‘steppin’ quietly past me. I had one major cramp as I tried to shove my foot way under the table each time you walked by. Koakane was smart, he moved over near Pride so he had good blocking!

(Note to self: Do not participate in Mexican Hat dance with A-Sports). You know I’m jez shuckin’ wid ya Tita Girl! You still my main squeeze!

  218. Addahknowsports© August 18, 2008 6:46 am

    Morning Kekoa!

My tired self did good that night and I was lighter on my feet than I thought I would be. I don’t normally partake of the alcoholic beverages either, but them midori margaritas were Mmmm…mmmm good.

Thanks for da love. See you next event, we can talk more then.

  219. Kekoa August 18, 2008 6:47 am

Coach Bulla ~ What is the Snow Beast uni number? We gotta get the license number of dat truck before he comes after our guys!

Note to: Koakane & James – MADD alert would be helpful guys.

  220. Bulla August 18, 2008 6:54 am

    haha,

Kekoa, he is still #95, all is fair in love and war. he loves all his brothers at UH, but knows once they strap up, and the lights go on….it’s battle time. we just hope that Weber can give UH some competition and not get blown out of the water, being so close to pearl harbor, haha.

hopefully it will be a good game for both teams and players. it’s a great opportunity for a lot of his team mates who probably wouldn’t have the chance to come visit Hawaii otherwise. but, you know the snow beast, he still has the same Triple A mantra in his veins, Anybody, Anytime, Anywhere…..kidz, what you going to do? haha

I am more looking to the 1st Tsaiko-gate of the season; contemplating if I am going to be the ‘Mixologist’ again, now that the mojitos are so popular. hmmmmmmm, things to work on today…………oh boy!

  221. Kekoa August 18, 2008 7:07 am

Shout out to the Maui Guys! I’m on an EIS fact-finding boondoogle this week Wednesday, so let’s get dat island squared away!

~ Get dem touristas to step away from the CC buffet table.

~ Alert da Mayor dat we’ll be looking at a light rail system that will really curl her toenails beyond Super Fairie status.

~ Take down da “Maui No Ka Oi” flag and run up my ceded lands flag for the day.

~ Declare a holiday that day and we’ll call it “Slam Sadowski” day. After all, our neighbor islanders need to participate in this mudslinger!

(I just need about 8 hours on island to shake and stir things up…then they can lead me away in my Tsaiko Tsuit).

    ~

    bhf2-
We all second what you’re saying about Ching Field. So those who read here can interpret that as meaning what you say goes a hundred fold for us. Cut the politics and special interests out of this issue now. UH athletes and band members have waited too long already for the use of Cooke Field. Nuff said.

I wonder if HA (or some other news media) can do some “investigative” reporting on this Ching/Cooke Field fisaco?? Let’s give Sadowski & others their time to justify what they have done is correct and ethical. I want to hear what kind of spin they can put on this one.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/08/17/AR2008081702419.html

    “And then there was Brennan.

Trailing 10-6, Washington took over on its 20-yard line with 2 minutes 4 seconds remaining in the game. Brennan had entered in the third quarter in Washington’s first two games but came in to start the fourth quarter Saturday. Zorn wanted to evaluate the rookie in a late-game situation with the team either in a hurry-up mode because it trailed or trying to manage the clock with a lead.

On the drive’s first play, Brennan completed a 37-yard pass to wide receiver Billy McMullen. Mason rushed for 14 yards on the next play, and then Brennan was sacked. The Redskins went to a no-huddle offense, and Brennan teamed with tight end Jason Goode on a 33-yard touchdown pass over the middle with 1:09 to play.

Jets defensive back James Ihedigbo gambled for the interception, and Goode got behind him. Suisham’s point-after kick gave the Redskins a three-point cushion. The Jets missed a potential tying 23-yard field goal as time expired.

In the quarter, Brennan completed 4 of 5 passes for 79 yards with a touchdown and had a 158.3 passer rating. Brennan also had big numbers (9 of 10 for 123 yards and two touchdowns with a 157.5 passer rating) in a 30-16 victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Aug. 3, “but there’s a lot more distance that he has to go, and to be honest with you, he knows it,” Zorn said. “He won’t be strutting around here. He shouldn’t be strutting his stuff.

“He has great vision. He’s made some heads-up plays and we’ve had success. I really like all that, [but] I’m looking for, maybe I want more, but I want better technique. I want him to use the kind of techniques that are going to take him further down the road. We were all talking differently after the Buffalo game [Brennan went 4 for 8 for 37 yards] when everybody said: ‘Oh, Colt came down to earth. Now, he’s in outer space again.’ ”

The Redskins have two preseason games remaining before they kick off the season Sept. 4 against the New York Giants at Giants Stadium. The Carolina Panthers host the Redskins on Saturday and Washington’s starters should plan to be on the field for an extended period, Zorn said.

“We’ll play that a little bit more with the starters,” he said. “We’ll try to put together a rhythm during the week that we’re going to use throughout the season.”

“Coltrolled: Colt celebrated his 25th birthday Saturday night, did not get into the game until the start of the fourth quarter. The broadcast immediately spotlighted Jim Zorn talking about how Colt needs to broaden his game, you can’t stay a sidewinder and be your best. Was ineffective through the first half of the fourth, taking a ten yard sack on third down midway through. And then, that Colt Brennan magic. A long pass to Billy McMullen, a solid Marcus Mason run and a 33 yard TD pass to bubble tight end Jason Goode and the Redskins were ahead for good.”

  229. Garret August 18, 2008 8:20 am

Former Warrior commit Bo Mitchell was named the starting QB at SMU. In fact, JJ has true freshmen as his top 2 QBs! SMU’s 2-year starting QB who has already thrown for 51 TDs is now tied for #3 on the depth chart. It is good that he has a 5-year contract, since having true freshmen as his QBs could be rough for this season…

SMU coach June Jones confirmed after practice that two true freshmen, Katy’s Bo Levi Mitchell and Rockwall’s Braden Smith, are the quarterbacks who will receive the most reps as the Mustangs prepare for the Rice game on Aug. 29.

Junior Justin Willis, who started 22 of the last 23 games at SMU, and redshirt freshman Logan Turner will be the No. 3 quarterbacks, Jones said. Freshman Winston Gamso will redshirt.

Quarterbacks coach Dan Morrison went as far as naming Levi No. 1 and Smith No. 2.

I didn’t drink that much…but somehow, around midnight, my coach was turning into a pumpkin…and I got really tired…in fact, I remember actually falling asleep on the chair near bulla’s mixing station….LOL. Good thing I got good friends. At least I didn’t have to pray to the porcelain god….dang those jagerbombers….and I don’t really like jager….MWAHAHAHAHAHAH

Thanks to Stretch and Steve M for arranging the whole thing as well. Good times for all. And thanks to Esme for singing with me too!!! You are just an awesome singer girl!!!

One more thing….or actually 2 more. First, ladies be careful with your purses at Wal Mart on Keeaumoku. My mom had her purse stolen yesterday while waiting in line to pay for her things. Everything is okay…but lots of headache.

Second, don’t forget about the Florida game. Lurkers, join us as well. We don’t bite. Information is below.

Just a reminder gang…the first Tsaiko TVgate of the year will be held on August 30th at the bright and early hour of 6:00 a.m. Yes, that’s right, UHFan808 and jojo….6 in the morning…LOL.

So, come and watch our Warriors as the play in The Swamp with a bunch of crazy Warrior fans. All are welcome to attend, and if you’re a lurker, just come on in, we don’t bite…well, maybe DPK does…j/k….

    james,

good to see you with the living; you’re the only person i know that can sing almost well in a horizontal position. you were the mystery crooner that night, we couldn’t see you from where Pride and I were sitting.

jason, you balladeer you, almost swept mrs bulla off her feet, but you gotta start working out more if you’re going to try, haha. i think Pride will sing back up with you next time on that rendition.

i don’t know about you guys, but Pride looked pretty stunning in that Tsaiko shirt. if i had mine on, we could have put james between us, it would have been a life sized oreo cookie, haha, or maybe homey, for the chocolate oreo cookie…..now that would have been a site.

Tsaikos, have a productive and blessed day….

good morning all, just wanted to include my thanks to ALL for the KK.
had to leave a little early so apparently missed a few things, dang!

i can verify the ‘good vibes’ was all around and also the singing was REALLY good. but its not just the good voices, its the feeling singers put into it, terrific.

ST – that one knee ‘slide’ was pretty good.

    BIGHILOFAN:

Discovered that my FAX doesn’t go long-distance but only Oahu!
You have no e-mail address in the face book – so…

CURVEBALL offered his assistance in #410 message on 8/16 blog. He may be able to help to get the material on the matter.

    Would like to get;
    1. hard copies of the minutes of the contractors license board of 10/2007
    2. Copy of HRS Chapter 19 (I’m retired – who keeps the books around? 🙂
    3. Copy of the decision in Tanaka v. DLNR
    4. Can you or ST get the background material the reporter relied on in that story about Sandowski?

Thanks for carrying the ball. As you are an expert on JUGS, I’m passing the ball to you.

  248. BG August 18, 2008 11:45 am

Good Morning to all da Friends!

Guarantees…a Tsaiko get-together and fun are inseparable! Like “heart and soul”. Mix in a lot of fuud and life don’t get any better! 😀

Any Tsaikettes driving in from Mililani tomorrow evening? While taking our walk on Sunday morning, we decided to postpone our trip to Japan until Oct. (dang! There was a plane to Okinawa at 0640 this morning). But, it’s all good…and Betty now has a chance to make Heather McMackin’s seminar. If she can catch a ride, please email me @ rhiraki at honolulu dot gov

  249. BG August 18, 2008 12:03 pm

Dang! Somebody fooling around with the blog again!

Anyway, Tom, google “Hawaii Revised Statues”. State’s gov site will be listed. In there, along the right side will be listed “Hawaii Revised Statues”. When you click on that link, it will give you a search window for HRS.

  250. duffer August 18, 2008 12:19 pm

    Kekoa,

Whitey will pick you up in his limo on Wednesday….

    🙂

  251. LizKauai [Believer] August 18, 2008 12:24 pm

    Hiya!

For those of you wondering (like me) if:
    http://www.coltbrennan5.com/index.html

is indeed the real Colt Brennan website, I asked Matt Terl who asked Colt about it. The answer is YES. That is going to be Colt’s real website. He just hasn’t had time to check in and get comfy in the new digs. It’s all new (not to us 😉 ) yet and when Colt has some time, he’ll drop in.
I love the inclusion of Hawaii in the logo, btw…

    HIHO!

  252. SteveM August 18, 2008 12:32 pm

Got a few minutes at lunchawa at work today…

    James,

good to see you with the living; you’re the only person i know that can sing almost well in a horizontal position. you were the mystery crooner that night, we couldn’t see you from where Pride and I were sitting.

sj-macro and I were sitting 5 feet away with cameras in hand whenever James popped up over the booth back…we were laughing so hard I think we forgot to take a photo– was wondering where the fourth mic was… 🙂 Yeah, he still sings good. James is another who should get a shout-out…he’s always there for everyone!

At the same time, homey was up in front choreographing the singing. 😯

…and thanks to all the Bombers for reminding Peaches what it was like to be 22 again… 🙂

  253. WreckinEyez August 18, 2008 12:38 pm

    Thanks again everyone…

Too bad, was really looking forward to lighting up the room with some effects to amke it look like we were in a night club…

Taking Homey home was something else… lets just say I know what he was eating… BAAWWWAAAAHHAAAHHAAAA! Made me wash my car. It is all good though…

I just remember SteveM and I walking Peaches and Homey out… That was funny.

  254. chawan_cut August 18, 2008 12:38 pm

liz, looks like either his agent probably set up the site. good idea to give colt more press and publicity.

  255. Kekoa August 18, 2008 12:43 pm

duffer ~ Oh perfect! With my 2 carry-on, six suitcases, one golf bag…we should have just enuff room.

Hmmm…let’s see what kine goodies can I bring ovah for omiyage…the mongoose from the Kapolei Roadkill Restaurant is always nice and crspy…I gotta expand my search into the area around the landfill for the fresh stuff. I’ll come up with something I’m sure!

  256. SteveM August 18, 2008 12:48 pm

Wreck — thanks for trying to bring in the lights. I’d like to see it…hopefully next year IF we dredge up Plan A for the REALLY BIG Karaoke Call with the large room, stage, band and karaoke setup. Would also like to see the Karaoke sing-off program you would have set up…

  257. SteveM August 18, 2008 12:58 pm

    whitey’s limo…? 😯

  258. homey ⑤ August 18, 2008 1:12 pm

    That was a nice sleep…

Thanks koakane for the ride there, and Wreck for the ride home…

    Good fun I had!

Rob25 – Give Frank a big hug for me!

Nice meeting H-bod, Kelli, Darren, ST’s sister-in-law (I think that’s what she is), and Wreck’s pal.

    Kudos to Bulla!

Homie – FWIW, Cadiz did start for Mililani but he didn’t play running back, he was the slot back and sometimes did get hand-offs in mis-direction plays. It’s the hard work he put in during the unsupervised workouts that earned him a spot in fall camp. He may not be the biggest, fastest, strongest, or quickest RB out there but he does bring heart and desire.

I agree, Mililani did have great scat backs like Torres, Lawelawe, Perbera, Apduhan, etc.

  259. Mau`u August 18, 2008 1:21 pm

  262. gigi-hawaii © August 18, 2008 1:28 pm

    Tom Mui,
you really should send a letter to the editor of the local papers.
Does anybody know Ka Leo’s email address for letters?
I already emailed my letter to the HA, HSB, and Midweek.
The more people who fan the flames, the better.

  263. homey ⑤ August 18, 2008 1:28 pm

gigi – all Tsaiko get-togethers are hits.

  264. gigi-hawaii © August 18, 2008 1:29 pm

i.e., my letter re the Cooke Field fiasco and Denny Sadowski.

  265. gigi-hawaii © August 18, 2008 1:29 pm

  266. homey ⑤ August 18, 2008 1:31 pm

  267. Mike August 18, 2008 1:32 pm

Big Bro, or what’s left of him after Saturday, is sitting next to me. I don’t see him writing a new post, though.

  268. homey ⑤ August 18, 2008 1:33 pm

gigi – not even your presence can cool down the good fun thermometer! 😆

  269. Stretch August 18, 2008 1:33 pm

gigi – ST was alive when I left but with that bag of stickers, the players might have beat him to get their hands on it.

  270. gigi-hawaii © August 18, 2008 1:33 pm

has anybody eaten at Haleiwa Joe’s in Haiku-Kailua? My sister-in-law was told they don’t accept reservations.
Too bad as it’s dinner for 10 of us.
Will be a shame if we are turned away at the door.

  271. homey ⑤ August 18, 2008 1:34 pm

hmmm, maybe ST can call you so YOU can give the practice report?? I heard that Rausch was shining this morning under the bright sun…..

  274. homey ⑤ August 18, 2008 1:37 pm

gigi – if the place is that popular then it’s no shame for them to turn 10 of you away. If the place is that good then it would be no problem for 10 of you to wait for a table for 10.

  275. Stretch August 18, 2008 1:37 pm

Hey Mike – I heard you get to dress in drag tomorrow evening and hang with the ladies…. lucky guy

  276. jm2375 August 18, 2008 1:40 pm

Gigi – Haiku-Kailua – didn’t know that existed? 😉 Methinks Haiku more close to Kaneohe. With that big a party, call em waaay ahead of time.

    No new post?

  277. gigi-hawaii © August 18, 2008 1:41 pm

homey, you know me, I hate to wait for anything.
Like, wait for a new blog.
gigi is tapping her foot for ST to wake up!

  278. Mike August 18, 2008 1:41 pm

Homey, I’d love to see that report, too.

Stretch, it’ll be like those ESPN phone commercials. I’m shooting for MVP of the football wives clinic.

  279. gigi-hawaii © August 18, 2008 1:42 pm

Haiku- near Kaneohe? You might be right. I rarely go to the windward side, so I wouldn’t know.

  280. gigi-hawaii © August 18, 2008 1:43 pm

ah, there’s the new post. cheerio!

  283. homey ⑤ August 18, 2008 1:46 pm

Kazz – Avery has soft hands? I forget but maybe it was sjmacro standing next to me when the receivers were catching balls and you could hear the ball hit Avery’s hands. Sounded like the football was hitting cardboard. Now when Salas catches the ball you don’t hear much. He has soft hands. Avery is getting better though. He still sometimes catches balls with his body that should have been caught with his hands. But hey, he is my guy and one day he will see plenty playing time!

  284. Stretch August 18, 2008 1:50 pm

homey could be the lucky charm, “his” QB was Rausch and look what happened….

  285. notsotallsoylatte August 18, 2008 2:44 pm

This blog is wayy crazy fun! 🙂 Don’t know much about sports (I guess I have to keep up with my reading here) but I do know that the world needs more people like Frank! Keep safe 🙂

  286. Kekoa August 18, 2008 5:28 pm

Gigi ~ The restaurant you refer to was the old Haiku Gardens. ‘Gardens’ is the key word. If you like the scenery of the Ko’olau range as a backdrop and lots of flowers, that’s what you pay for there.

The lower level of the establishment is the location used for Weddings. With all of the lush plant life that surrounds the area below and the pond…expect squadrons of mosiquitos keeping you close company. The food is blaze’-blaze’ and the cost is not ‘word’ it. IMO of course.

You really shouldn’t have any trouble getting seats for 10, they don’t seem to draw the crowds they used to back in the day. I hope I’m wrong and they’ve got good vector control for the bugs. The food? Well, that’ll be yours to decide.
