Green, Paredes win WAC awards; injury updates

Running back Alex Green and linebacker Corey Paredes today were named the WAC’s Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively.

Green rushed for 172 yards and four touchdowns in a 45-7 victory over Utah State. Paredes made two interceptions in that game and led a defense that held the Aggies to 181 yards.

* * * * * *

UH head coach Greg McMackin said slotback/punt returner Ryan Henry has a torn ACL and will miss the rest of the season.

Also, left guard Brett Leonard underwent an MRI on his sore knee. It is hoped the injury is not as serious as first feared, and the talk is he has a 50-50 chance of playing against Idaho Saturday.

  61. Garret October 25, 2010 8:08 am

This is *not* a surprise…Rainbowtique has been selling a lot more Warrior merchandise during the winning streak.

And as the Warriors keep winning, the UH fan gear at Rainbowtique at Ward Center continues to fly off the shelves.

“They’ve definitely picked up quite a bit some days the numbers are doubled what they used to be from previous weeks,” says Beyer.

    Lets face it.

The “Hawaii Bowl” is a glorified home game.

The players get a swag bag with a Blu-Ray player, a visor, and box of mac nuts and the game is filler for ESPN.

The tie in is with Power House conference CONFERENCE USA!

Other than for June Jones and SMU, would this game mean anything? UH vs UTEP/TULSA? Thats old school WAC. EAST CAROLINA? Is Chris Johnson still playing? Southern Miss? Do we get Favre pics?

The bowl was built for UH, its tickets are sold thru UH and without UH in it you’re lucky to get 12,000 fans. There are probably more people and players on the field then in the stands. Last year’s game was like a classic ILH “Sun Bowl” game which started at 3:30 PM back in the day. Fans could have whole sections of stadium for their individual self.

I’m not hating but its the truth. ESPN is pimping us to fill some time when there is no more football.

  71. Ipu Man October 25, 2010 8:35 am

Idaho Vandals Shiloh Keo, LB Robert Siavii and defensive end Aaron Lavarias play well, but Linebacker Butts has been butted off the team.

Quarterback Enderle has put up some big numbers. The Vandals are fourth in the nation in passing and Enderle has 1,784 yards and 13 Touchdowns but has thrown 10 interceptions — He only threw nine all of last year. But he has a weaker offensive line and the running game hasn’t helped nearly as much as last season…

  76. Derek October 25, 2010 8:48 am

Congratulations to Corey and Alex for their awards. I’m totally impressed w/ the effort and the final result by the Warriors against Utah St., especially in light of the weather. Again, the things that turned the game was defense and the special teams w/ the bad punt and return by Graves for a touchdown. The offense went up and down the field at will pretty much. The two interceptions by Moniz hurt big time. That was 2 more scores for sure. The defense continues to get better for the last 5 straight games and last week was the best they have played in a long time. Idaho this week can move the ball and can score, averaging 33 points a game for the season. Hawaii gives up 23 points for the season, but only 19 points in WAC games against the better teams in the conference, w/ the exception of Boise which is next week. Hawaii is averaging 40.5 points per games in WAC games. So here’s this week prediction. For Homecoming, Moniz will have a big game and it wouldn’t surprise me if all the 4 starting receivers gain 100 yards or more. The defense will play solid and get some turnovers as they have for the last 5 games and there will be at least one big special teams play, either a TD by Dustin Blount, or a blocked punt. Also, there is also a possibility of a pick 6. So, here’s the score.

    Hawaii – 63

    Idaho – 24

MichWarrior, Enderle, who was 25-of-47, hooked up with Preston Davis, Mo Shaw and Kama Bailey for touchdowns and Princeton McCarty ran for 55 yards and a score.

And also poor Jojo a lad from Hawaii broke his leg in practice.

    God bless him.

Noticed that a UH quarterback leads the nation in QB Rating… and it’s not Bryant Moniz. In fact, Bryant Moniz only ranks third on the UH team: David Graves, 774.4; Shane Austin, 194.4; Bryant Moniz 159.6

i could never understand why the wac did not set up an automatic bowl game for it’s league champion.

hawaii is very fortunate to have the hawaii bowl.

Despite finishing 9th in an online voting poll, and being the #1 passer in the nation (because it doesn’t skills to hand a ball off) UH quarterback Brian Moniz is NOT one of the 16 finalist for the Davey O’Brien Award.

The Davey O’Brien committee covers their butts by fine printing that online votes account for only 5% of overall voting.

Hmmmm… I’d love to see all of their criteria in the open.

My apologies to all that participated in this online voting farce. I did enjoy seeing everyone’s daily participation. Awesome!

Hey ST- can you ask Ferd to make himself useful and investigate the O’Brien committee on how they derived to their conclusion?

    Re: Davey O’Brien Award

    http://blog.daveyobrien.org/2010/10/25/2010-davey-obrien-award-semifinalists-announced/

From their website, “The committee was asked to consider the following criteria: quarterback skills, academics, character, leadership and sportsmanship.”

I guess they are saying Moniz is not doing well in academics, has bad character, no leadership and lack of sportmanship. Being the leading statistical QB, it can’t be his quarterback skills.

  108. Ipu Man October 25, 2010 10:01 am

UH football team, by snubbing Moniz

they are laughing at you and all your superb

efforts this year. Are you gonna let them

continue their snobbery? From now on, hit

    110% harder…think 110% harder…run 110%

UH offensive play. If coach calls for you to

kneel down, don’t do it. Go for the bomb and TDs!

O’Brien Quaterback Award is basicly up to the 2010 Davey O’Brien National Selection Committee.

Fans only had a 5% say in it being Moniz is still a Junior didn’t get on the top 16 Finalist List.

Plus UH never had a real exposition like in the past with ESPN coverage during JJ Era.

Well better Luck next year when Moniz turns Senior and UH better get early Exposure for Moniz.

I guess we should not be surprised by this turn of events, we all know that those awards are nothing more than a popularity vote by the media(espn) they sure can’t have a lowly team like the warriors win a national award. 125. I voted about 5xs for Moniz.

    Again, the theory is CORRECT.

Hawaii student athletes have to always do MORE than their mainland peers and not just be equal or close to it.

Double ALL of Moniz’s stats (except picks) and he’d be in there in the end…. MAYBE…

But in the end.. WHO CARES?

All I care about is sending the Vandals home hurting and crying after this Saturday!!!

  126. d1島 October 25, 2010 10:14 am

  127. San-Man October 25, 2010 10:15 am

Part of life is to overcome obstacles and that’s what Moniz will have to do. In fact, the entire football team has been disrespected from the onset of this season and with today’s 24th ranking of Nevada is another slap in the face for UH. At this point, why pay attention to rankings when it’s more important to focus on the “Ws.”

Hawaii continued to receive first-place votes but it was not enough to prevent the Rainbow Wahine from dropping a spot in today’s AVCA Coaches Top 25 Division I volleyball poll.

Hawaii (18-1) was back at No. 5, the spot the Wahine held three weeks ago.

Florida (18-1) remained at No. 1 with 66 votes, with Nebraska moving up a spot to No. 2.

California (18-1), which upset former No. 2 Stanford last week, jumped from fith to third while the Cardinal (16-2) moved to No. 4.

Instead we get low ranking UNLV match up for the Final.

  136. Michigan Warrior October 25, 2010 10:24 am

My guess… the Big12 and Big10 voters Homered us. I mean, Moniz (#14) has a better QB rating than Griffin (Baylor-#15), Robinson (Michigan-#17), Gabbert (Missouri-#40), Martinez (Nebraska-#21), Kaepernick (RENO-#27), Jones (Oklahoma-#35), Thomas (Oregon-#19), and Dalton (TCU-#24).

Plus, Moniz is still the nation’s Passing leader, whereas most of these QB’s aren’t even close to #1 in main QB stats.

We have the same record as Baylor.

We have a better record than Iowa, Michigan, and USC… AND, Iowa and Michigan just lost their game on Saturday! AND, Robinson was ineffective and was pulled in the 3rd quarter of their game!

That’s it! We gotta come out fired up each and every game. We gotta take it to everyone we play from now and forever after!!! I’m pissed! I’m tired of us getting overlooked, when several other schools run the same dang offense.

  137. Pomai October 25, 2010 10:25 am

This has not only disrespected Moniz but the whole team, because no matter how good a QB is, he is only as good as his team is. This should drive them even more. If I was UH I would make it a point to get more fans to this coming game, we need to fill the house, make it so loud that I daho can’t even hear themselves think.

  143. Michigan Warrior October 25, 2010 10:31 am

Too bad those defectors weren’t staying. We could supplant the Big East eventually!

  144. jm2375 October 25, 2010 10:33 am

    Good morning Tsai-kos!

    Congrats to Paredes and Green!

Travesty!! I’m with Liz – boycott dem idiots. No way, no how, is Crybaby Kaepernick better than Moniz.

d1 – #129 – the way the Wahine played on Saturday, they may have deserved the drop.

  145. Markazulu October 25, 2010 10:35 am

If the Pro Bowl comes here an Davone Bess is here I hope alot of Warrior Fans show up to give that man a well deserved STANDING OVATION. And Maybe a nice little chant of appreciation.

  146. madeinhawaii October 25, 2010 10:35 am

Nah… we started the Moniz campaign long after the others… so getting him recognized by the panel may have been asking too much. Next season.. we start at the very beginning.

  147. Da Punchbowl Kid October 25, 2010 10:36 am

I wrote an email to those fine folks at the O’Brainless award site. Was gonna do a “Kazz” version, but thought better of it. I might be spittin’ in the wind at this point, but I want to how or even if, they’ll respond.

    **************************************************************

Why, after gathering enough votes for 9th place in your preliminary voting, was Bryant Moniz of Hawai’i left off your list of finalists?

He leads the nation in passing, has the number one passing offense in the country, has the leading reciever in the country and another reciver a few a spots lower. And yet, he doesn’t have a place among your finalists?!

This is shameful!! Is your award based on geography or perhaps politics? Certainly not on the field performance, apparently.

Please explain. I am most interested in seeing your reply ASAP.

Thank you very much for your attention to this matter.

  148. Okole Maluna October 25, 2010 10:37 am

Because both Moore and Kaepernick is a Senior and Moniz is still a Junior.

    Better Luck next time.

We should still back up our fellow WAC QB and vote Moore to the TOP.

We play them next week and what better match up who is WAC TOP Quaterback!!

    Go Warriors!

  149. madeinhawaii October 25, 2010 10:39 am

Moniz gotta make a statement to close out the season! No bars hold… No holding back..win by 40 pts each game.. every game.. all the way baby! .

  150. koakane™ October 25, 2010 10:42 am

bummer after such a supa weekend. only thing is to wait till saturday and watch the warrior go out and take thier anger out on Idaho.

  151. Michigan Warrior October 25, 2010 10:42 am

Guys, we know that the ultimate goal is to win as many games as possible and get to a Bowl game. But, let’s be truthful now…

People say it’s fine that our student athletes weren’t getting WAC PotW awards when they clearly should have been recognized for their athletic performances.

Then, we all see how much of a mental and spiritual boost it gives us when our kids do receive that recognition. You know it motivates the team as well, when one of their own gets recognized.

Of course, being snubbed can have a similar effect, but wouldn’t we all rather be basking in the good light instead?

This is the same thing. Even though it was a remote possibility, at best, to win an award such as the Davey O’Brien, it still gave us a rally point to get the troops together.

Once again, we are reminded that we are a small school that must overachieve to gain any exposure… especially as the BCS conferences get bigger and bigger, and the focus of attention draws farther and farther away.

    From this point on…

Eo na toa! Eo na toa E!

  152. mctruck October 25, 2010 10:43 am

DPK…..just hey’n you back,(#64); had to take my cat,(da-queen-of-sheeba),2da-vets, for her current checkup and shots. She also got some kind of skin allergy that’s been bothering her for about a week, so had to get that checked out….will pick her up tmr.

There are very few analyts/media, etc., who feel inclined to vote/promote for non-bcs teams to play for the national fb championship, as in the case of BSU. That being said, don’t expect much support in as far as top twenty-five stature is concerned for UH, etc. UH has just got to go out and play their game(s) and focus on the big, “W”…..end story. All of these prejudiced pollsters know where they can stick their votes.

  153. (Jesse)James October 25, 2010 10:43 am

#141 Dan-O agreed….we need to stay focus and remain humble…..One game/One victory at a time…..Focus on Idaho this week….take care of business with the Vandals first. Secure the Hawaii Bowl berth and take care of one of the goals for this season.

I also agree with everyone else. We need to start pounding people on the scoreboard and letting Moniz roll up the stats when possible. Don’t take your foot off the gas until late in the 4th quarter……that’s the only way people will notice…..

  154. Bulla October 25, 2010 10:43 am

  155. Garret October 25, 2010 10:44 am

The WAC doesn’t do that well in the Sagarin conference ratings because Sagarin ranks all of the D-IA and D-IAA teams together and the bottom of the WAC drags the WAC down (NMSU is #165 in ELO-CHESS, for example).

One more thing I gotta say…

I am dang proud to be involved with such a great group of UH fans and supporters! Together, we brought Bryant Moniz from total obscurity on the votes, all the way up to #9. And, this was after getting a late start too!

Thanks, all of you, for participating and giving it your all! We demand it of our team, and you guys showed it too!

  157. Garret October 25, 2010 10:46 am

The O’Brien award snub just gives UH one more reason to play the “no respect” card. Frankly, it wouldn’t bother me if UH was snubbed more if it meant more wins…the lack of respect so far sure seems to have provided extra motivation for the team.

  158. Bulla October 25, 2010 10:48 am

    James,

I disagree, (sorry), don’t take the foot off the gas until they’re on the plane…I mean it, there comes a point in time when you get sick and tired of ALL the rhetoric, all the back room deals, all the promises from both sides of their mouth, all the non-recognition because we’re ‘all the way in the pacific’……..all the condenscending announcers, all the biased writers, all the ‘we play real football’ in the mainland attitudes, or…..you just got lucky comments…….

there comes a time, and for a time such as this……..

WARRIORS NEED TO MAKE A STATEMENT, LOUD AND CLEAR, OF WHO THEY ARE, WHAT THEY ARE ABOUT, AND EXUDE THE WARRIOR MENTALITY TO ALL WHO CROSS THEIR PATH

Shaka Zulu…..leave no enemy alive……..nuf sed

Wow, now I’m sounding like Kazz

ST needs to remove #155. That is not public info!

  160. (Jesse)James October 25, 2010 10:57 am

Anyone see Craig James and Herbie get into it last night about the BCS??? And how Herbie said that a few years ago he was a staunch supporter of the BCS system and the AQ Conferences….but now the BCS busters are starting to change his mind….and how he doesn’t understand how some pollsters can overlook those schools simply because of who they play…or because they play “nobody” on their schedule??? He basically called out Craig James on his voting and said that CJ probably voted for schools based upon the conference they were in….

Craig James got irritated and was like, “No, I keep an open mind and look at the whole picture. But teams like Boise and TCU, you answered your own question Herbie, they don’t play anybody during the season so why should they get a shot at a title?”

My message to CJ ….That’s the perfect argument for a playoff system to crown a true champion in Div 1 (FBS). In a playoff system, BCS buster schools would be forced to play the bigger schools week in and week out during the playoffs…if they can’t compete, it will show and they will lose.

And to say that they don’t play anybody so they shouldn’t even be considered. In basketball, there is a 64 team tournament to decide the champion. On numerous occassions, schools belonging to non-power basketball conferences who play “nobodys” in basketball have made it up the brackets in the tournament and have competed. So, what’s the difference??

My conclusion…and this is something I already knew…Craig James is an idiot…not to mention part of the NCAA death penalty team….LMAO

  162. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc October 25, 2010 10:59 am

    POMAI: 49-17

With respect to the Wahine ranking, the reason we don’t do well in the national rankings is that UH is not in a strong league and do not play top teams once the conference portion of the season starts. The Wahine need to be in a separate league like the men’s team is.

The Away-Gate Arrangers: Mahalo for stepping up to take care of the details. Will make arrangements for An Added Attraction for the breakfast bar.

Another Quick Reminder: If we munch up Boise State, DaDocs will host a post-season party for all those who attend the December 4 UNLV game in person. The annual football dinner awards is on Sunday, December 5, so that date is out. For personal reasons, I won’t be available on December 12 so it looks as if the date will be on Saturday, December, 18 which is also the date of the volleyball Final Four. No men’s or women’s basketball games that day. Again, the event will NOT be held at McBurgerBox or one of its competitors. More details after November 6.

    Michigan Warrior,

I guess I missed something because Garret’s post about Sagarin conference ratings should be ok for public consumption.

  165. Stretch October 25, 2010 11:02 am

IF the Davey O’Brien is a “credible” award, you would expect, even if there was no marketing done by UH or the WAC, that someone on the selection committee would have done their homework and looked up the current QB stats. It appears that nobody cared to take a look at it and if they did, then quarterback skills is the least important criteria for their award.

I say they are right. We have reason.

Thats why we win when we are not supposed to.

What a joke that O’Brien award voting is…I better not be getting any marketing garbage from them. ARGH! 🙁

Derek, Neal and the rest of the SID staff better bust out the UH record books this Saturday. Let’s plaster the potato heads with 750+ yards of offense and more than 60 points. And the fans better show up too. Get out there are support the Warriors for Homecoming 2010!

  175. Michigan Warrior October 25, 2010 11:16 am

Stretch, I think, these days, the majority of these kinds of awards are given to players from

    1) Big Conferences

    2) Big name teams

    3) Undefeated (or close) records

    4) Distant possibility of Bowl Game matchup

  176. Garret October 25, 2010 11:20 am

    Kazz,

The post that Michigan Warrior was asking to be deleted had to do with a possible reason that Moniz might have been downgraded by O’Brien voters. If character is weighed heavily by the voters, they probably looked into why Moniz was away from the team and apologized when he re-joined before fall camp.

  177. Garret,

    Oh ok… Ugh… 🙄

  178. Pcwarrior October 25, 2010 11:23 am

At this moment, it doesn’t matter what we do! We will be judged by our past successes and NON successes!! All we can do at this point is win out!! As much as possible. This year is for respect for next year. I hate to say it but it is true, just like 2006!

  179. Da Punchbowl Kid October 25, 2010 11:25 am

    Stretch –

#165. I called their office and the lady I was spoke to said she doesn’t blame us for being upset, but the real issue is the 85 member “selection comittee”. They vote how they want want and the folks in the office have to stay neutral.

She is going to bring the Moniz issue up at their next board meeting.

I made the same points to her which you make, and I also pointed out that the process they currently use to make the award compromises both the meaning and the integrity of the award if an athlete like Moniz can be left off the list.

They should have a big disclaimer on the fan vote page which says that fan votes only account for 5% of the final selection. See how many folks vote then.

  182. RE: Offensive Line

Although Brett Leonard is dinged-up, Ginlack has been playing well, heck, the whole offensive line is playing well!!! No offensive line = no offensive output and we get PLENNNNNY DAT!!!!!!!!

Utah State brought the BEST pressure UH’s offense saw all season long, but adjusted to let the oline man-handle the Aggies’ smaller defensive line.

Deep down, no matter the amount of humility, the offensive line from left to right KNOWS that they are the KEY reason guys like Green, Salas, Pilares, and Moniz are able to do what they do.

  183. CromabUSA October 25, 2010 11:31 am

    How lame.

Delete the post that was 1000% true.

Ask ANYBODY within the athletic department.

People are pissed that Moniz wasn’t one of the finalists? Correct me if I am wrong but character and leadership were two of the qualities. I am not questioning his skill of the game.

How hypocritical. Ask the coach about going for 2 but deleting a post that spoke the truth.

Wake up people, stop living in a fantasy world.

  184. HiFlyer October 25, 2010 11:32 am

I agree with all that said don’t back off, run up the score as high as we can in every game. There have been many games where BCS schools would stomp on lower division teams to make them look better in the rankings, they know what the numbers game is all about, just look at what USC did earlier this year.

  185. koakane™ October 25, 2010 11:33 am

  186. RULE 1:

YOU DO NOT LOSE AT YOUR OWN HOMECOMING.

I remember that at the peak of our 6 game losing streak last season, our homecoming game was against Utah State.

When it was all said and done, some felt it was just a win against a so-so WAC team. To me it was more. On our field, during a difficult stretch, and for homecoming, our Warriors kicked the habit of losing and it was sweet.

I had the SAME goosebumps during the playing of our Alma Mater after that game as I did when I returned to the stands from running onto the field after the 2007 game against Boise State.

It was two different situations, but the concept was the same.

OUR FIELD, OUR HOUSE, OUR TEAM.

  187. Stretch October 25, 2010 11:34 am

    Thanks DPK.

I don’t think that Moniz would have won the award due to the same reasons he is not part of the 16 semi-finalists, but for him to not make that list just makes this award FULL OF IT!

  188. Michigan Warrior October 25, 2010 11:35 am

David Klingler still holds the record for most passing yards in a game… 716.

Most receptions in a game: 25 (D-III); 24 (Jerry Rice, Tyler Jones)

  209. expat October 25, 2010 12:08 pm

@148 Kellen Moore is a (redshirt) Junior. He is also a three year starter and so far this year has a QB rating of over 190. Like Colt his stats, while great, are deceiving since he has sat out a bunch so far this year due to too much success. He only played one half at SJSU (only 16 pass attempts) and one half plus a series against NMSU. He also did not play all of the Wyoming and (I think) the Toledo games.

The guy has thrown 16 TDs and only 1 INT. He only threw 3 INTs all last year against 39 TDs. Another interesting stat — he has never fumbled according to ESPN stats. Of course, he has only been sacked twice this year and he does not run much.

I think Moniz deserves to be on the list based on some of the other finalists, but at this point you have to look at what Kellen Moore has done and the real injustice would be if he doesn’t win.

If I were Coach Mack, I would play two old games for the Warriors next week to motivate the Warriors to take a bite out of Moore’s stats. I think both of the wins against Ty Detmer would be appropriate, especially the one right after he won the Heisman.

Then why did it take Robert Kekaula to have to be the mediator between the two? If I am not mistaken Kekaula does not have a jersey with his name on his back. He is a color commentator. Obviously Coach Mack DID NOT do this “in house.”

So Moniz isn’t a finalist. Again, I am not questioning his skill or his stats. He is putting up great numbers and he is winning us games.

His leadership and character are in question–two criteria for the award.

  218. A-House October 25, 2010 12:34 pm

  221. Michigan Warrior October 25, 2010 12:36 pm

Ima Couch… If Coach Mack can keep this coaching staff together for another couple of years, at least, then we should have a great opportunity to build a solid foundation, and then just reload into pukas as guys graduate.

  222. Michigan Warrior October 25, 2010 12:38 pm

Not to get too far ahead of ourselvs, but… with talk of going up to Vegas next year… Do we open up at USC next season?

    Ditto #219 and #220.

  227. Derek October 25, 2010 12:43 pm

I guess I’m not the only one. With every passing day, I seem to dislike Craig James more and more. From the beginning, I never liked this guy. He was the one in 2007 when UH was undefeated saying Hawaii played a lot of “cupcakes” and didn’t deserve a BSC Bowl game. He’s guy that doesn’t like Non-AQ Conference teams. He says Boise St. and TCU and Utah are good, but these teams should never play for the National Championship. I disagree with him totally. And this is why this whole BCS ranking only creates more controversy. The only way you can settle it is to have a playoff and everything will be resolved on the field. FCS and Divsion II and Divsion III have a true National Championship. There is no question there. Why is it so difficult? You can still have the bowl games.

Don’t despair that Moniz was selected for the Davey O’Brien Award. Next year he will get a lot more attention and he will be in there. He’s still under the radar nationally, but some people are starting to notice him more and more. If he does real good against Boise St. and he does really good in the Hawaii Bowl people will be talking about him a lot more. My advice for him and the Warrior team is to just focus on what they have to do this week. They have been doing a very good job the last 5 weeks and I would expect it will continue. If anything, the “snub” will create more motivation to go out and do well. Don’t try to do more than what he is capable to doing. Just play smart and efficient football. Moniz has been perfect as far has staying on an even keel. He doesn’t get over excited. With him, it’s just playing a game of football and making plays. He stays quiet and he stays grounded and stays humble. That is real smart. Let his actions and play do the talking. In the end, all he has to do after the game is just “SMILE.” Besides, it’s homecoming. What better than having a big victory on Saturday.

Finally, I have to say that one of the best coaching job this year has been done by Coach Gordy Shaw. Rolovich and Aranda and the others have done a great job too, but the offensive line was the one area that was a big question going in. In the Run and Shoot, if the OL doesn’t do well we are in big trouble. So, a big KUDOs to coach Shaw.

The only thing that matters right now is preparing for Idaho. What more motivation do we need after losing to Idaho last year, Bradley and breaking his leg. We have been on a revenge mode for the last 5 weeks with La. Tech, Fresno St., Nevada last year, and Utah St. the last time we lose to them up there, and now this week. Next week, it will be a revenge

game against Boise St. too. Hey, with this Warrior team there is no lack of motivation any week. If we want to go Independent we can send a big statement. I hope ESPN is watching because I think we will need them. We need Neil Everett and Chris Berman to promote us. Good to see The Rock supposedly coming this week. Maybe he can donote some funds to NaKoa since he played for Coach Mack at Miami.

  228. al October 25, 2010 12:45 pm

  229. Committed Road Warrior October 25, 2010 12:48 pm

    Michigan Warrior #222:

It’s 2012 when we open the season at USC. We also play BYU in Provo the week after this game, so this’ll be another good 1-2 punch for away game fans to go to.

Next year, we open at home against Colorado (revenge for this year’s loss to them), then we go on the road for two games…one at UDub and the second in Vegas. Kinda mirrors last year’s road trip during the non-conference schedule.

  230. madeinhawaii October 25, 2010 12:51 pm

    Michigan Warrior,

Next Season looks to be a soft season for the Warriors.. we get Colorado at HOME!! for a rubber match… and the WAC will no longer have Boise. Colorado at Aloha, Washington at Washington, UNLV at UNLV, UC Davis at Aloha Stadium then Tulane at Aloha, too. The Washington at Washington may be the toughest game in the book.

  231. d1島 October 25, 2010 1:00 pm

  234. Michigan Warrior October 25, 2010 1:03 pm

Mahalo for the info, CRW and MIH.

Too bad that these teams are leaving. We are looking better and better as the years go by. I mean, Reno joined us in 2000, followed by Boise State and LaTech in 2001. Idaho, Utah State, and New Mexico State came on board in 2005.

San Jose State has had it’s ups and downs. With the exception of them and New Mexico State, the conference has been getting better.

  235. For those that have seen Billy Ray Stutzmann more often in his days at St. Louis, what are his chances of moving INSIDE as a slot for next season?

  236. Michigan Warrior October 25, 2010 1:17 pm

    Just my opinion…

I think Billy Ray has great instincts, but he needs to put on some weight. He looks too small when he’s next to Salas and Pilares. Our slots get pushed a lot. A good spring and summer with Coach Tommy, and he should be good to go.

  237. HiFlyer October 25, 2010 1:21 pm

Okay, where’s our Tsaiko report from the Na Koa lunch today?

  238. Michigan Warrior,

Imagine the potential of Darius Bright as a slot! 😯

  239. mctruck October 25, 2010 1:26 pm

    MW, ur #236….

Only time will tell as far as Billy Ray’s weight and size….I remember when Pilares in the begining was a sorta light weight, but look at him now.

  240. Michigan Warrior October 25, 2010 1:31 pm

For real, Kazz! Some kids… you just look at them and go, “Hmmm… I wonder… what if we try….”

Take Jake Heun, for example. He came to us as a bruising RB. Someone, somewhere along the line, said, “I wonder how he’d do as a linebacker?”

  241. Michigan Warrior October 25, 2010 1:37 pm

True, McTruck… but just looking at our receivers, most of them have some meat on their bones. Even with the skills, they gotta have some weight, or they’ll get knocked around too easily, which can lead to unnecessary injuries.

But, yeah… Pilares came through from last year to this year as a new man. I have to believe that Coach Tommy has a lot to do with our overall successes this year, both individually and as a whole team.

  242. Last Call October 25, 2010 1:40 pm

Think you’re snubbed and ignored now just wait till you find yourself still in Mr. Peanuts new WAC.

  243. Michigan Warrior,

It should have been NO question how Heun would do as a linebacker because wasn’t that his original deal before coming to UH?

The question was, “how would he do as a RB”?

  244. mctruck October 25, 2010 1:46 pm

Mark May and James Craig are two peanuts in the same pod/shell. Those two stand out most with absolutely narrow minds….hell even Lou Holtz has changed his view of giving non-bcs teams their just due.

  245. mctruck October 25, 2010 1:47 pm

    make that craig james……

  246. Does anyone want to throw in their two cents about Moniz’s comments on the Coach Mack Show?

When asked about playing for a WAC Championship this season, Moniz said:

The WAC won’t be around for much longer so we want to put our mark on it.

  247. D1,

I blame the Hawaii Bowl loss to Tulane on the “Ka Mate” haka.

  248. madeinhawaii October 25, 2010 1:49 pm

    Last Call..

Won’t matter if your OoC games are highly respectable. I figure if we go independent, then who we play in the middle of the season will probably be less than stellar anyway. I mean who will be available? If the WAC folds, the available teams will be the old WAC, Army, Navy, BYU, Notre Dame. I don’t see Notre Dame booking Hawaii all that regularly. … BYU is already on the schedule so nothing changes there…

  249. Pride. October 25, 2010 1:51 pm

  251. madeinhawaii October 25, 2010 1:54 pm

    Kazz…

Maybe he meant the WAC as they know it.. after all with Boise, Nevada and Fresno gone, it will be a very different conference.. BUT if they feel that way and want to leave their “mark” .. I say all the more power to them!

  252. (Jesse)James October 25, 2010 1:54 pm

Gotta laugh at Wilbon from PTI….I know he hates the BCS and loves when teams like BSU and Hawaii break into the BCS bowls. He was talking today about how, even if BSU and TCU go undefeated, they’ll probably get hosed by the BCS snobs and not be allowed to play for the BCS Championship….LMAO

This is what mainland sportswriters see:

    2008 –

    Lost to Florida 56 – 10

    Lost to Oregon State 45 – 7

    Lost to Boise State 27 – 7

    Beat Washington state 21 – 10

    Lost to Cincinnati 29 – 24

    Lost to Notre Dame 49 – 21

    2009 –

    Beat Washington State 38 – 20

    Lost to Boise State 54 – 9

    Lost to Wisconsin 51 – 10

    2010 –

    Loat to USC 49 – 36

    Lost to colorado 31 – 13

Record against BCS opponents 2 and 7

Record vs. BCS opponents 2 and 7

    Boise State in 2009 – 2010

    Overall record 32 and 1

Record vs. BCS opponents 4 and 0

That is how mainland sports writers see it. Notice that BSU only played against 4 BCS opponents, as opposed to Hawaii’s nine.

  263. Markazulu October 25, 2010 2:18 pm

It’s obvious the Davey O’brien award committee is the same monkeys from the BCS system… Mo got snub for 3 reasons 1) He plays in the Wac 2) He plays For Hawaii 3) They seem to like to label Hawaii Qb’s as system an not take into account how they play

If Mo was to throw for 600 yards and 4 touchdowns against a Wac school and Pryor was to throw for 200 on a Big 10 school every single BCS committee would be riding Pryor and Ohio States history. Fair my Okole

Last Call… I, too, am frustrated that things may get worse after the defectors leave. But, without any guarantees in future income from TV deals, scheduling, etc., I seriously don’t see how we can do much of anything else at the moment.

If we go the Independent route…

Notre Dame has only one open date on both 2011 and 2012 schedules (Interestingly, they play Maryland at Fed-Ex Field in DC next year. Then, they open the season against Navy in Dublin, Ireland!)

I haven’t been able to locate any future schedules for any of the service academies.

BYU is already contracted for the next four years, I think.

At the moment, no one wants us in their conferences, or we probably woud’ve gotten an invite in the last round of upheavals. At least, with a conference, there is some security in scheduling, plus conference payouts at the end of the season, however miniscule that may be.

Why do we need our finances in order? Well, if we hang onto our football program, we have to hang onto many other sports because of Title IX. Even if we do get accepted into the Big West for all non-football sports, we still need money for travel. In the middle of every season, we’ll either be on the road, or hosting a D-IAA team or three.

BYU has money AND the TV infrastructure to go Indy.

We’re already in the red. Where do you think the needed money will come from? Selling sweet bread and portuguese sausage?

  271. Da Punchbowl Kid October 25, 2010 2:29 pm

At least the folks at the O’Brainless Award are nice enough to give quick response. Credit to them!

Regardless of what they say however, at the end of the day, Moniz belongs.

Here is their response to my earlier email.

    ***************************************************

Thank you for your interest in the Davey O’Brien Award, and our Semifinalists announcement. It is it the passion of fans like you that makes college football great. I understand you are upset by Bryant Moniz’s omission from our Semifinalists list, so I would like to clarify our selection process for you.

Our Semifinalists are selected by the Davey O’Brien National Selection Committee, an elite group of journalists, broadcasters, commentators and former winners, with the Fan Vote accounting for 5% of the total vote. The Selection Committee is asked to evaluate each candidate on the criteria of his quarterback skills and athletic ability, academics, his reputation as a team player, character, leadership and sportsmanship. All 120 starting quarterbacks in the FBS division are eligible for Semifinalists selection, and for a complete listing of the Selection Committee, you can visit http://www.DaveyOBrien.org.

I hope this clarifies any questions or concerns you have, and that you will continue to support the O’Brien Quarterback Award.

    Regards,

    Bailey

We move on. Idaho is up, and we need to make a statement in every game, from here on out. We need to play with controlled rage, every down, every minute, start to finish. Disciplined, assignment football.

    We’ll be okay.

  275. Markazulu October 25, 2010 2:36 pm

You cant call a National Title if not everyone in the Nation is “Eligible” to play for it… They’re like Apolo Creed and Were Rocky Balboa they think there better they think there tough but when it comes down to it we can give and take. I think if a Team beats everyone on there schedule an there isnt any undefeated team no matter what conference deserves a shot. Ohio State got blown out twice in the National title. It’s like there discriminating they need to make it fair but I guess Money Talks…

But in my opinion they should’ve A)let Boise and TCU play a BCS team in the BCS bowl game to see if there statement is valid instead of making them play each other. B) Talk about history Boise is 2-0 in the BCS game, Utah DESTROYED Alabama in the sugar bowl so they need to stop with the they cant compete with them talk because its just a excuse they dont wanna share the Big Bucks because It’s NOT FAIR CRY ME A FRICKEN RIVER! This is the Land of Oppurtunity but the Rich only wanna feed the Rich and keep the Poor in check.

  277. CromabUSA October 25, 2010 2:41 pm

    As I stated,

And as the selection committee has stated…

There is CLEARLY certain criteria on that list that Moniz did not exhibit over the past year.

I don’t know why people are claiming that it is a lack of respect, plays in the WAC, product of the system, that it is run by a bunch of brainless people.

Moniz has the numbers. No one is questioning that.

    Does he have character?

Does he have the reputation as a team player?

    Does he have leadership skills?

    Those ALL come into question.

Barry Bonds nor Mark McGwire are in the Hall of Fame and it isn’t because of their numbers or statistics.

Tiger Woods lost endorsements and probably other awards because of what he did.

C’mon. Keep it real here. To every person here that is crying about conspiracy and lack of respect, wake up and spit out the kool aid for once. Moniz has the stats but is far from the other qualities that the award encompasses.

POST 143 Michigan Warrior–Really you think? You think the WAC is better then the BIG EAST? I’m not sure with all those new coaches like Skip Holtz, Charlie Strong…these are the up and coming “YOUNG” Coaches on the East Coast. The new guy at Cincy too. I love watching those games in that conference as the conference is really balanced. Every week you never know who will pull it out!!! I think Holtz and Strong are going to be huge in a year or two. Those are our early games here in Cali. But if they do go to the 4 Super Conference several of the Big East teams will go to the SEC. Then Kentucky will not be the Washington State(LOL) of the SEC.

How did you like the Michigan State game?

  282. NCAA October 25, 2010 2:51 pm

    Mr. CromabUSA,

Are you saying the selection committee was privy to the information in your deleted post? Do they attend practices or hang out in the locker room to see if Moniz is a team player or has leadership skills?

Barry Bonds is not yet eligible for consideration to the Hall of Fame.

Woods, Bonds, and McGwire were big news items.

Was it mentioned in any news outlets on why Moniz was “on personal leave”?

  283. (Jesse)James October 25, 2010 2:52 pm

Healing thoughts and prayers for Ryan and Brett…..

LastCall…#268…I think what d1 is saying is that you talk about never voting for Republicans in the first statement…..then in the other statement you say that people in Hawaii don’t like change but like to bitch and moan when they get treated unfairly. Those statements seem to contradict themselves in that the Democrats have been in charge of Hawaii for 50 plus years now…things have gotten stagnant…but they still control politics in Hawaii and will for a long time….no change….but people always say “We need change” but continue to vote the same people in be they Repubs, Democrats, or Independents. So how can things change if people take the view of simply voting for a person based on party affiliation.

George Washington once stated that “Party politics will be the downfall of this country when persons belonging to the party think of their party first…and not their country.”

Now, I am not really into the political thing but most people I know are fed up with both sides…both Republicans and Democrats because all they do is lob accusations at each other…block each others ideas…attempt to derail each other…and, although they talk about bipartisanship, we all know that’s a bunch of bull. Why do politicians get the lowest marks when polled about most honorable professions? Because people are tired of all the BS…if people Repub or Democrat would just be straightforward and not hold anything back and be honest….things might be different…but they are not, on both sides of the aisle….and they both try to shove their conservative or liberal agendas down everyone’s throat….

Again, nothing changes until people get their heads out of their butts and look out for what is good for their state and their country…rather than themselves or their party.

  284. Shoko October 25, 2010 2:52 pm

Sad to hear about Mo not making the semi-finalist list. Oh well, maybe next year…

I just read a story about the long hours coaches put into their program and how its affecting their health. A few examples stated in the story…

» After a game against Notre Dame this season, Michigan State football coach Mark Dantonio had a mild heart attack. It was also discovered that he had a blood clot in his leg.

» Last month, Utah State football coach Gary Andersen missed two practices after fainting and injuring his neck. He had gotten up too quickly and blacked out.

» In the summer of 2006, Northwestern football coach Randy Walker died at 52 of an apparent heart attack. He had battled a viral heart infection in the fall of 2004.

» In the summer of 2007, Wake Forest basketball coach Skip Prosser died at 56 of an apparent heart attack. He was found slumped over in his office shortly after returning from a jog.

» Last December, Florida football coach Urban Meyer briefly resigned, citing health concerns. Less than 24 hours later, he rescinded his resignation and took a leave of absence.

How’s Coach Mac’s health? I know he’s laid back compared to other coaches, but he does seem to be a little overweight. I only bring that up cause I care. 😉

  285. Slugger October 25, 2010 2:58 pm

Healing energy out to our wounded Warriors. Sorry to hear about Ryan Henry’s knee. He graduates this December.

Great Na Koa lunch. I learned what the O-line is doing from Gordy Shaw. Always good to put more information in this brain. Alvin Katahara said the O-linemen go through pages of a test that is administered before a game by Coach Shaw. Smaaaht ones get to play.

  286. madeinhawaii October 25, 2010 2:58 pm

The fact that Mo isn’t on the list of semi-finalists won’t mean diddlly-squat if the Warriors don’t win out the rest of their season. If the Warriors lose to Boise, they’ll say that the Warriors didn’t win against anyone of significance.. except maybe Nevada. .. Just got to stay focused on each game at hand and let the Wins and the WAC title be ample reward.

  287. CromabUSA October 25, 2010 3:03 pm

Season ticket holders would have recognized that in JD’s letter asking to renew there was no mention of Moniz and in the sheet of tickets, each depicts a player and none of them is Moniz.

It was far from a secret. It’s common knowledge and unfortunately probably part of the reason why Moniz isn’t a finalist.

  288. Da Punchbowl Kid October 25, 2010 3:03 pm

Moniz has terrific numbers, great leadership skills and is a team player. Have you watched any of his games?! We wouldn’t be where we are now if he didn’t have those qualities in abundance!

As for the other issue you have, you weren’t there and you don’t know what happened. So dont make any statements your eyes cant back up! In any case, the team has put that issue behind them and forgiven. That is part of what makes them who they are, what makes them great. They have apparently moved on.

    Why haven’t you?

    Nuff said.

Pac – 10 teams like teams with BCS record 6 – 1 vs BCS Opponents.

and so is BSU and TCU consistantly beating BCS Teams.

Hawaii needs to get there too and they can if ‘No where Land BSU’ up North with only Blue Lake can do it.>>>> lol

  296. Kamaaina94547 October 25, 2010 3:20 pm

It hurt losing to Colorado…it hurt not blowing Nevada away, it hurt not getting more passing TD against Utah State. Winning solves everything, witness Boise State…and for that reason alone, it is my hope that we geev ‘um some help out the door! I’m so bummed Moniz did not get due respect, but, hopefully, that keeps the Warriors hungry!!!

  297. Pride. October 25, 2010 3:22 pm

We need more consistency on the field. It really doesn’t matter how you and I vote, if it isn’t reinforced on the field over a period of time.

As you can see, in #294. Even with some degree of consistency, those other three programs get a little respect, but not a whole lot. Those teams will get a seat at the banquet table once in awhile, but will never get to seat at the head of the table.

WE LOST TO SC AND COLORADO otherwise MONIZ would heisman candidate.

  300. Markazulu October 25, 2010 3:35 pm

I would blame the SC lost more on our Defense than our offense though Kona Blue…

I find it hard to believe that when a Non BCS team runs a offense its the system they run an when it’s a BCS team its there great athletes.

  301. Some bulletin board material for fun (taken from Idaho’s message board):

Just finished watching most of the UH – USU replay and thought I’d share my thoughts.

UH offense is good, but not as good as the Colt Brennen days. The WRs are solid and have pretty good size for that style of offense. Arm tackles won’t bring these guys down and USU missed a lot of tackles in the secondary. The QB is fairly solid but does make some mistakes and poor throws from time to time. Not many, but opportunities for INTs are there. However, he is a fairly moble QB and does a good time eluding the rush and buying time / avoiding sacks.

The running game is getting better. They still don’t run the ball that much, but they have a good back with good size. He broke a couple of big runs against USU and they had their best running game of the year- 160 yards give or take.

The O line is OK, but USU was able to get pressure with their front 4, and had solid success with the blitz. It really seemed to disrupt the timing of UH’s passing game. To keep the opposing D hones, UH will run some WR bubble screens to the middle of the field and use the shovel pass.

The D played well and is probably improved over last year. However, USU had their opportunities and just couldn’t convert. Too many dropped passes and poorly executed plays.

I was impressed with how well the USU secondary was able to cover the UH receivers. And, one of the corner backs was a true freshman that played fairly well. The turning point in the game was in a 5 minute stretch in the 3rd quarter. USU was down 7-14 and was driving. A dropped ball at the UH 20 yardline took points off the board. USU punted, held UH and got the ball back deep in their own territory. After going 3 and out, the USU punter fumbled the snap, picked up the ball, was tackled and fumbled again. UH picked it up and ran it in for a score. Next USU posession, Boreal (sp?) threw a pick on 2nd down and UH scored on their first play. Went from being a potential tie game at 14-14 because of a dropped pass to a 28-7 UH lead in a matter of minutes. USU was done after that.

Overall, I think UH is a good team and they will be VERY hard to beat in the Islands. However, Idaho will be able to move the ball through the air on them as I think their secondary is about average for a mid-major team. The O line isn’t great and we will need to be able to get pressure with our front four to have success. The D is pretty good, but doesn’t put a ton of pressure on opposing QBs and doesn’t have a ton of sacks this season.

In conclusion, if we can get some pressure with our front 4, and effectively mix in a variety of blitzes (NOT a SELLOUT BLITZ EVERY PLAY) we can have some success. Everyone needs to know their assignments and stay at home against the run and screens. They will score on us, but the key is to not give up the big plays. Make them sustain long drives. Chances are they will make some mistakes along the way. On offense, we need to take care of the ball and, of course, try to run the ball a bit. I don’t think we can dwell on the running game, but use it to keep their D honest. Also, if we can improve the execution of our screen passes, it will help.

If the game turns into a shootout, we will lose, but if we can keep UH in the 30 point range, Idaho has a chance as I am pretty sure we can score 30 on them. The key is to not fall behind early and have to try to play catch-up.

  302. Buffoman October 25, 2010 3:38 pm

Pride that is also why if, just if UH beats BSU, the pundits will then validate their belief in the fact that the WAC is weak and just got lucky, enough. The other WAC teams, Hawaii included just have not done a good job when facing the BCS teams. UH at a 2-7 record has to look at themselves as see that they contribute to the problem when they allow a poor team like CU win.

I agree it really boils down to consistency. Go have a body bag game (Wisconsin, Alabama, LSU) but schedule winnable games against BCS teams….and win.

At 2-7 still not good enough to make “big body” and have people take us seriously.

  303. Hank October 25, 2010 3:39 pm

I wish some of our Warrior Ohana wouldn’t feel a need to go to other message boards and do some chest thumping…really, no class.

Wish they would stay home, but oh well…you know kids.

  304. More from Idaho’s message boards:

And how is Nevada and USU relavant? Neither of them are passing teams. Idaho has been held to less than 21 points 2 times in the last 20 games.

Hawaii is a good team and will certainly be the favorite (as they should be) They also have a great QB and weapons at WR. Idaho does as well. I think it will take a very good effort to beat Hawaii but I’m going to say I don’t see Hawaii holding Idaho to less than 21 points. Hawaii’s defense isn’t that good.

  305. (Jesse)James October 25, 2010 3:41 pm

#299…Kona Blue…true we lost to SC and Colorado. But I remember prior to the SC game how the LA Times et al on the West Coast were posting stories about how the SC/Hawaii game would be over by the 2nd Quarter and Coach Kiffin would be pulling the starters and giving his 2nd team work for the rest of the game….well, that didn’t happen. Personally, I felt it was going to be a close game and it was….Granted SC is not the vaunted SC of the recent past….but even on College gameday Lee Corso and Herbie…as well as Lou Holtz was talking about Hawaii losing to SC but that SC allowed Hawaii to post 598 yards of offense on them…which was amazing….

This sort of reminds me of 2006 when we lost to Bama at Bryant Denney(sp?) Stadium…we played hard and fought until the end. That told me a lot about the team that year and we ended up having a superb year that laid the foundation for the next season. This has that same feeling…..just keep our heads in the game, let our actions do the talking, and take our frustrations out on our opponents…especially Idaho this week and Boise next week….

    Nuff said.

  306. NCAA,

USUALLY one senior player is depicted on each of the tickets.

It was a mix this season as had Paipai and Richard Torres on there with Salas, Pilares, etc…

Can also tell by the #s on jerseys they’ve been selling. At the stadium #s 17, 21, and 1 are on sale and they even made this Under Armour “shirzee” (shirt/jersey) thing for #1.

  307. Best wishes to Ryan Henry.

I can only imagine how tough it is to sit out on the rest of your senior season.

  308. (Jesse)James October 25, 2010 3:48 pm

I do have to say I was slightly disappointed in Greg Salas this past game though….Don’t get me wrong, I love the guy….but he seemed to be talking a little to much after some of his catches..jawing with the USU players. Now, I’m not sure if things were being exchanged between them during the entire game and as a former player I know that jawing goes on all the time…but my philosophy has always been to simply make the play..get up…and get back to the huddle…no need for antics or extracurriculars….save that for after the victory…play intense…but play smart….and be humble.

  309. I go to other message boards and I only respond to those I think I can stand.

Went to Utah State’s message board last week to extend some well-wishes for an injury free game as I can respect Utah State, especially for their stance on abiding by the WAC agreement FSU and UNR DESTROYED two months ago.

Just went to Idaho’s board to get these quotes and I’ll leave it at that.

However, fans will be fans, and that is the beauty of sports. Chest-thumping or boasting is all part of it. As long as the players and coaches focus on the game the fans will always be fans.

  310. James,

Salas has ALWAYS been like that, even from last season and the season before.

Jason Rivers too had that edge about him and Salas obviously has it too.

  311. madeinhawaii October 25, 2010 3:53 pm

    in the end…

For this season, I would be happy if the Warriors simply won the WAC title.. I could care less about the rankings and the BCS. Our Warriors were written off before this season even started. We knew, however, from their 6-game win streak last year that this group had all the elements of a winning team.

Just win.. keep winning and BCS rankings be d*mned. For this season, the pie in the sky is Boise.. and the WAC title..

Go WARRIORS! Leave your mark on the WAC

  312. bb October 25, 2010 3:56 pm

    Salas can talk.

Me thinks the handshake is his doing.

  313. d1島 October 25, 2010 3:58 pm

    Kazz,

Ackchally, to me that evaluation seems about as vanilla as can be…the writer is not really saying all that much that’s really insightful (or incite-ful, for that matter).

  314. madeinhawaii October 25, 2010 4:00 pm

One thing though… this year’s RnS has more options against the Blitz. USU’s game plan against the Warriors may be a real blessing in disguise. Warriors got to see what works and doesn’t work against some all out blitzes and saw areas that needed a l little more tweaking. This is going to be pivotal against the likes of Boise.

  315. d1島 October 25, 2010 4:00 pm

It ain’t braggin’ if ya can back it up!

(but Kazz is right….Salas seems to have a lot to get off his chest on Saturdays)

  316. bb October 25, 2010 4:01 pm

  318. (Jesse)James October 25, 2010 4:03 pm

Kazz…I know…but it seems to have gotten a little bit worse this year….and I don’t mean to single out Salas…like I said I love the guy…but players in general just need to keep the jawing to a minimum…..and play the game….actions always speak louder than words.

  319. Manoa October 25, 2010 4:04 pm

264, d1: I don’t mind one guy taking a risk with his money and it hurts only him.

I have a problem with big banks where the government guarantees their obligations and insures their deposits, like CitiBank, BofA, and insurance companies like AIG that are supposed to be in “safe” investments to back up our insurance, and the big financial houses like Lehman, Goldman, and others, that bet the farm and brings down our whole economy. Then your Citibanks and AIG’s come and ask for the government to bail them out because if there is no bailout, they will fail and pull down the whole country.

  320. bb October 25, 2010 4:05 pm

then again if the Rock grabs the mic and asks the fans if they smell what he is cooking I bet half the fans have no clue as to what is going on.

  321. Pomai October 25, 2010 4:06 pm

I say we let RK do the pre-game talk for the rest of the season.

  322. d1島 October 25, 2010 4:08 pm

  323. I can envision it now.

The Rock, with his sunglasses on staring into the camera like he did before all his backstage interviews in the WWE up on the big screen at Aloha Stadium and the crowd is going nuts. Well, whatever crowd IS there while the majority are still outside doing whatever the hell it is most Hawaii people do… 🙄

Then, he takes the mic and looks up at the sky and says his line: “Finally… The Rock… blah blah blah…”

Camera then zooms out to show he is wearing a UH jersey.

He then calls out the UH football team to lay the SMACKDOWN on Idaho’s “CANDY A**ES”!!!

    Pau!

  324. PolyMom October 25, 2010 4:08 pm

    @ #305 Jesse James.

I live in Cali and I knew that would be a close game. Why? The year before Kiffen, Pete Carroll still had 17 scholarships sitting on the table and not used. He was playing the 2009 season with a roster of 63 players only. That is what my boss said. Many in CALI thought he was practicing for the NFL job. But he knew what was coming down with the sanctions. Any kid who goes to USC next year, well they will only have 53 scholarships left. Then the 2012 season they will only have 51 scholarships to offer. In the early Pete Carroll days (my boss is huge USC booster) he was telling me USC did not need to recruit USC just reloads! LOL, now they do not have too many kids to reload with!!!!

To the UH Admin and the fans. Why can they not play games at noon Hawaii time so the East Coast voters who hold the most votes can see the games? East Coast fans really love seeing Hawaii play! Then the players would have more visibility to the voters and Hawaii would get more respect. But we have to book games with the ELITE schools as well.

Like I said all of these polls and network folks think of Hawaii as a step child. Cost so high to play Hawaii. Something must be done to get them to a conference. If not…things look grim. But I do believe that if you are an outstanding player in Hawaii…you can go to the NFL. But do not expect any kind of huge signing bonus. Nothing like Alualu who went in the first round from CAL. Now that boy…Hawaii should be proud what he is going to do with his signing bonus.

    Just my opinion. Thoughts?

  325. wafan October 25, 2010 4:09 pm

I think RK should do a one word speech at BSu.

  326. I say Charles Djou should give the Warriors a pre game speech.

    bb,

Coash Shaw said something about the origin of the handshake, but I don’t think he mentioned that it was Salas’ idea. We’d have to ask a Coach or player about that. It was in response to the excessive celebration penalties.

  330. D1,

    Chance em. Just say it.

  331. madeinhawaii October 25, 2010 4:16 pm

    PolyMom,

Unless they put a roof over the Stadium a 12-noon start in Aloha Stadium would bring the surgeon general down on us. 3-4 straight hours under the Hawaiian sun would wreak havoc on all players and fans, alike. Skin cancer incidences would probaby skyrocket… class action suits would follow shortly.

  332. Not surprising the “handshaking” was a sarcastic response to excessive celebration penalties.

It’s wonderful!!!!!!!! BRILLIANT!!!!!!!! And even a bit insulting to the other team as the way I look at it, is our guys are taking a “no sweat” response to scoring on the other team as if it was routine.

I like it! It’s a subtle “middle finger” to the other team and the officials.

    KEEP DOING IT!!!!!!!!!!

  335. RE: Origin of the handshake.

I swear on my life on this one that this story is TRUE.

Back in 2008, at home against Idaho, it was really the first game of the season where we “routed” an opponent. We all remember how difficult it was to really get our offense going considering the game of musical chairs we were playing between Funaki and Alexander.

Anyway, we finally started scoring in bunches against Idaho like previous years and in the stands we would all HI – 5 each other and the people sitting in front of us.

So, after a while, I just waved off a HI – 5 from my friends and extended handshakes instead. It got a huge laugh and the family that used to sit in front of us loved it too.

    That was two seasons ago.

    Just saying… 😎

interesting how Idaho writer seems so optimistic. i think UH wins by 30.

as for Henry, i wish him well. I met him once and he is an outstanding young man.

with respect to the Moniz situation, please let it go. no more talk. lets not hurt the continuity of this team.

as far as billy ray to slot. this is going to be a good move. he is a real , real good player and i think (as does Mack) that he is going to be the next star.

lastly, i hope to get to the stadium saturday early. would love to see “THE ROCK”

    GO MACK!

Wonder if Coach Mac would try that?

    For his health…

  340. Stephen Tsai October 25, 2010 4:29 pm

The handshake was Kealoha Pilares’ idea. It originated from watching Miles Austin do it.

Team was supposed to do it after every touchdown, but Alex Green forgot. Three times.

  341. DAMN!

I was gonna say that the NFL was eventually going to steal the idea from UH, but oh well…

  342. Not sure what Idaho writer you guys are referring to.

If you are referring to the quotes I posted, they are just from an Idaho fan on their scout board.

Besides, ANY Idaho journalist that says that UH’s defense “isn’t that good” should get his creds checked.

  343. gigi-hawaii October 25, 2010 4:40 pm

I laughed at the handshake. It was so surprising to see. But, I figured it was due to excessive celebration penalties.

    Get real?…ok..

I’m real proud of the progress the Warrior have made from the first game.

I’m real proud of Moniz and all that he has overcome to get to this point in his career.

I’m real proud of the Offensive line and all the have done to improve.

I’m real proud of the Defense and how they’ve improved.

I’m real proud of the character of the team.

I’m real proud of the “new” coaches and how what they have done with the team. (Rolo/Aranda)

I’m real proud of Coach Mac..not making lolo kind statements ..so far.

I’m real proud of the effort I see for every game.

Anyhoo, will stop now..might take up too mcuh space here.

If change is so good, why everybody get pissed off when change happens? Lots of people in my neck of the woods pissed because someone wants to change the vacant land in Haleiwa.

Same for Mililani and UH students, some want to change the dues but hooo plenty huhu.

Just be careful of what kind change you asking for.

#301..Kazz all dat donkey had to say was…stop the Warriors from scoring, make sure we tackle them and we going win…same stuff Nevada was saying…..LOL!

Some peoples just like talk too much…btw…I wonder if that guy play football?

Loved the “Hand shake” celebration(S)….looks so….respectful?…

#331 MADE IN HAWAII–heck it is not picnic sitting at UCLA or USC games in the afternoon. Try 112 degrees at the Rose Bowl. But you know mainland folks they want to be fried at the end of the game. LOL!!! Sunscreen people…LOL!!! It is hotter in Arizona and California Stadium. Weather does not turn cold here until the end of November so daytime is hotter then a Mother at all of the stadiums!!!! And let me say this, your guys seats at Aloha Stadium much more leg room then at the Coliseum or ROse Bowl!!!!!!! I mean I am not that big, but to go lua or something…heck you got your punani or okole in some guys face. Not kidding so small the seats. LOL! Shame you gotta just wait until half time to go lua…LOL!!! Other thing you guys got cold beer. No BEER or any alcohol here in either stadium. And lucky you live Hawaii cost 80 dollars for parking at the Coliseum. Can you believe that? 80 dollars for one parking space.

  351. madeinhawaii October 25, 2010 4:53 pm

    Ipu Man..

    Pretty amazing, eh?

    June Jones went 9-4, 3-9, 9-3 for a 21-16

    WAC 5-2, 2-6, 5-3 or 12-11

Greg McMackin is 7-7, 6-7,6-2 for 19-16 with 5+1 games to go.

    WAC 5-3, 3-5, 4-0 or 12 – 8 with 4 WAC games to go

  352. madeinhawaii October 25, 2010 4:54 pm

    PolyMom,

It’s not the heat.. it’s the UV rays.. UV rays cause skin cancer.

Hawaii’s UV index is higher than any location in the U.S. with an average index of 6-7 in the winter and 11-12 for summer months. It’s best to be conservative until you get a feeling for how your skin reacts at a high UV index. For fair skinned people, 45 minutes in the sun using 30 spf sun screen is a safe start if you’re swimming between 10am and 2pm during the summer.

  353. PolyMom October 25, 2010 4:55 pm

    @bulla…THANKS!!!

    Aloha everyone. Working early tomorrow.

  354. cocobean October 25, 2010 4:58 pm

Someone is giving the members of the Davey selection committe too much credit for their diligence in researching the stats and personal background of every candidate before filling out their ballots. He really thinks the voters, who are all media types, are spending the many hours needed to do a thorough background check on All the candidates. Come on, talk about drinking too much cool aid.

I bet most voters took less than 20 minutes to fill out their ballots. Just checked familiar names first, then highest ranked schools , then hometown favorite.

  355. Michigan Warrior October 25, 2010 5:00 pm

We think Hawaii Five-0 was really good tonight. Except for the part when the local boy goes overboard with his pidgin… seemingly in an attempt to confuse Danno.

    UH won Saturday.

    Wahine rolling along.

McGarret still has his silver Camaro.

Life is good. Prepare for the next game. Take Kazz’s post from the Idaho Board (#304 above) “I think it will take a very good effort to beat Hawaii but I’m going to say I don’t see Hawaii holding Idaho to less than 21 points. Hawaii’s defense isn’t that good.”

    Go, Warriors!!!

  356. Pomai October 25, 2010 5:03 pm

PolyMom good lord you goin give some people a heart attack with that suggestion. But I agree I think we should start at around 2 or 2:30 Last game on the east coast prime time. Would get more exposure if espn would pick up the late games, or oceanic partners up with someone on the mainland or dish or direct tv.

But a lot of UH fans goin to complain about having to sit in the sun, even at that time the makai side is in the sun too.

  357. Pomai October 25, 2010 5:04 pm

Rob25 must be crying right about now. Colt in a cowboy uni????

  358. wafan October 25, 2010 5:08 pm

    http://dailyme.com/story/2010102400000030/bcs-sooners-crash.html

_ Don’t look now, but . . .: It’s fashionable to bash Boise State for playing in the weak Western Athletic Conference, but upcoming opponents Nevada and Hawaii could both be ranked when they meet the Broncos. Nevada and Hawaii are Nos. 26 and 27 in the AP and USA Today coaches’ poll. Nevada is No. 24 in Harris and Hawaii is No. 29. Four of Boise State’s remaining six WAC opponents have winning records.

  360. Michigan Warrior October 25, 2010 5:10 pm

    Look at it this way…

We’re not really getting much tv exposure this year anyways. Too bad all games can’t be on early enough to meet prime time on the East Coast. And then just move it back to a later time to accomodate that rare ESPN broadcast.

Another big problem with that is… the cost of living is so high in Hawaii, that many fans HAVE TO work on Saturday. With earlier start times, we get empty seats in the stadium. Big problem. We want the exposure, but we need the paying fans in the seats and for their 12th man support.

  361. wafan October 25, 2010 5:11 pm

    Pomai . . .

    Not them!!!

But, if Colt needs a home I guess I, and a lot of others, can bite our tongues. They still wouldn’t be my favorite team, though.

  362. wafan October 25, 2010 5:16 pm

Worked most of the day with one kid and his poor choices. He still ended up dropping the class. Kind of upset me because he stole that time from the rest of my kids who understood and were very patient.

Since I do not use the muscle between my ears very often I am just worn out. Dang.

  368. madeinhawaii October 25, 2010 6:34 pm

La Tech will be the first WAC team to challenge Boise’s dominance. We should all watch this game with great interest. Look for any chink in Boise’s armor.. offensively or defensively.

  373. RainbowCliff October 25, 2010 6:56 pm

    Good evening Tsaiko Nation,

during the 2007 sugar bowl year I met ESPN Shelly Smith who was doing

a story on my good friend Mentor Kevin Bell who coached Mark Bradford

of Stanford University that made the great catch to beat USC that same year.

I was wearing my Hawaii green LWC polo shirt as she asked me my affiliation

to Hawaii in which I replied in detail as I BRAGGED on Colt and the boys at that

time of their undefeated season. Miss Smith just smiled at me and said frankly

“Beautiful place for vacation but you don’t play nobody to warrant national

recognition” as that statement alone is the perception that lives today with

national media, national awards and national fan base.

Will it ever change not in the immediate future as power conferences wont accept

UH and becoming Independent their is a lot of problems scheduling worthy opponents

as Boise State, Fresno State and Nevada are GONE and UH at this time will still be in

the WAC with even lesser stellar teams replacing the defectors who will be leaving.

It is very tough as I can sympathize with the many bloggers dissapointment on Bryant

Moniz treatment to the Davey O’ Brian Award as Matt Barkley name was never consider

to the very end but again PERCEPTION from the powers of be who makes the political

decesions with just one move of their writing hand or school base power that has money

and BIG alumni clout that influence voting power.

All you can really do is keep winning and beat the competition in front of you as trying

for national recognition is a HUGE mountain to climb with many obstacles in the way.

Have a good evening folks and IMUA WARRIORS !

  374. Hoohiki October 25, 2010 6:57 pm

I wonder if Kama Bailey will be motivated to prove something against UH, since he was not offered a scholarship, but invited to walk on. He was a good one that got away. It would’ve been nice to see 2 former Monarch all state RBs at UH playing together.

hors d’ oeuvres is hard to spell…

  389. oxtail soup October 25, 2010 7:21 pm

What is the main benefit that an opposing team derives by playing Hawaii and getting a thirteenth game on their schedule?

I don’t imagine it would edge them over into bowl eligibility, so is the gain from the extra revenue from ticket sales? The additional game experience for their players?

Is it less attractive now, amidst ever-rising travel expenses?

I read that Alabama used their Hawaii game as their “bowl game” when they were under NCAA sanctions, but that wouldn’t apply to most schools, I’d think…and the NCAA has wised up to that tactic.

  390. whitey October 25, 2010 7:25 pm

WOW!!! I am impressed wtih all the tsaikos opines and feelings, but me I just enjoying the ride. Da Warriors are doing things big time on both sides of the ball, so me I just thinking what else can they do to make the game more fun. Run the score, punish the ball carriers, sacks, etc. Nah, just keep doing what they are doing and enjoy the fun of watching da warriors mature.

  391. TYaiea October 25, 2010 7:26 pm

Oxtail, before it was a recruiting tool, “play for us and you’ll get a trip to beautiful Hawaii, sunshine, surf, wahines and luau!” But now as you said it, too expensive.

  401. whitey October 25, 2010 7:39 pm

ipu, am not concerned about the number, but even tho da warriors are doing great, team effort is always a concern. will we have a complete game this week from da warriors???? I truly believe we will.

  402. whitey October 25, 2010 7:41 pm

this homecoming game will be one for the books and hope that the students take full adveantage of all the freebies tied to this game. you are the future of da warriors and make no bones about it.

  403. Ipu Man October 25, 2010 7:43 pm

Well, Whitey, I agree with you. Da team must show up…again.

I always think the team starts with the center. Then the guards.

Then the tackles. And of course your defensive line… They

seldom get any praise. But you got to luv ’em. So if I was

Moniz, I would try to mention them in every interview.

  404. whitey October 25, 2010 7:44 pm

was watching dallas game tonight and i think somewhere along the line, he will be picked up by one of the nfl teams. but again, i may be wrong because the nfl is strictly a political league, very similar to the bull sh– of the bcs.

    he = colt

  406. Ipu Man October 25, 2010 7:46 pm

Well, if Moniz is signalling UH will go independent

this may well be UH’s last WAC homecoming game.

So the students should show up for the history of it all.

Ticket stubs will be hot on ebay…

  407. SteveM October 25, 2010 7:46 pm

  408. whitey October 25, 2010 7:49 pm

since the csu game, only 2 coaches have understood how da warriors are playing. one is the csu coach and the other is pat hill. idaho have some inkling, but after saturday, they will have a much better understanding of what the 2 coaches are talking about.

  409. whitey October 25, 2010 7:53 pm

Colorado lost their starting QB to a ruptured spleen in Saturday’s loss to Texas Tech; they’ve been struggling. Hawaii’s mentioned here…

“KEEPING THE FAITH: With a 3-4 record, CU has an uphill battle to finish with a winning record and get to a bowl game. Head coach Dan Hawkins hopes the Buffs and their fans keep believing…

DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS: Remember the good feelings CU had after back-to-back wins over Hawaii and Georgia? Well, the Buffs are 0-3 since that stretch.

Georgia, meanwhile, is 3-0 (outscoring opponents 128-45) since leaving Boulder. Hawaii scored a season-low 13 points against Buffs, but is 5-0 since, outscoring opponents 228-83.”

Alex D’s Mum,Dad sister, brother, grandmother and aunty on a plane tonight to visit and watch the game on Sat. Have a great time guys.

  421. PowderPuff October 25, 2010 8:48 pm

A-joe, thanks for the O’Brien Committee List. I volunteer to contact Jesse Palmer. 🙂 Like RainbowCliff said, it is interesting to read everyone’s comments about this “award.” So I may be biased, but Moniz has been a leader since Alexander went down at LaTech last year. And I don’t know about you, but I thought this was a quarterback award – judging by what he’s done ON the football field. Aren’t your performance reviews at work based on what you do at work – meeting certain “quantifiable” goals? Okay, ’nuff said. Just win guys…and the real awards will come.

This Cowboy game is depressing…Hawaii Five-0 time.

  422. djmitcho October 25, 2010 8:50 pm

    Kazz RE:304

Obviously the guy who wrote that must have eaten some rotten potatoes. Let’s look at the one common opponent both teams have played. Our defense held La Tech to 21 while they gave up 48 to La Tech…so I guess our defense isn’t that good after all. What a potatohead that guy is. I hope we smash those guys, especially since I live right up the road from Moscow.

  423. Curt October 25, 2010 8:52 pm

Whoops. I meant Tony Romo’s injury today.

  424. Derek October 25, 2010 8:54 pm

Well, Romo looks like he’s out for awhile if not the entire season. Also, Favre has a couple of fractures so he might have to sit down for awhile too.

With all the QBs getting hurt, it’s time for Colt Brennan to get a shot some place. Even Alex Smith got hurt on Sunday. The 49ers need help. I don’t know if David Carr is the answer.

#304 The quote by the Idaho guy should fuel even more motivation for our defense. As if we needed any more revenge after last year loss. I know Coach Mack has a long memory.

  425. Curt October 25, 2010 8:57 pm

    Aloha aussie aunty,

Great. Our very best to Alex D’s family and for a great visit to the islands. You should be on the plane too!

  426. djmitcho October 25, 2010 9:00 pm

    SteveM,

75% sure I’ll be at the Boise game. The plan is to drive down, so I’m hoping there isn’t much snow in the Blue Mountains yet.

  427. Curt October 25, 2010 9:00 pm

With all of the QB injuries in the NFL, we’re all hoping that Colt get picked up. But without any game experience, it’s hard to imagine Colt getting too much interest. Nevertheless, we still BELIEVE.

  428. aussie aunty October 25, 2010 9:02 pm

Aloha Curt, wish I were as well. Hopefully for the ‘bowl ‘ match I will be.

  429. Garret October 25, 2010 9:03 pm

Well, if Moniz is signalling UH will go independent

this may well be UH’s last WAC homecoming game.

    Ipu Man,

This will not be UH’s last WAC homecoming game because if UH goes independent they will notify the WAC by June 2011 and be independent for the 2012 football season. So, no matter what next year UH will have a WAC homecoming game.

  430. Garret October 25, 2010 9:07 pm

    Ronnie,

I have to change myself from a “definite!” to a “hopeful” for Thursday. I was sick since Saturday and *still* have a 103 fever. I never go to sleep before midnight and I had to go to bed around 8:30pm on Saturday (a couple of hours after the UH game) because I was so out of it.

Couple that with Lori getting a call today about needing to go for X-Rays on Thursday and Thursday is not guaranteed anymore. That really hurts because I have a lot to share and I miss talking story with the So Cal group…

I wanted to try to meet up with Old Diver while he’s out here, but I’m on medication (103 fever AFTER medication) and don’t want to give him what I have.

  431. Slugger October 25, 2010 9:11 pm

    aussie aunty,

Looking forward to meeting Alex’s family. See you when we go bowling!

  432. Garret October 25, 2010 9:13 pm

    Pride.,

Excellent explanation of why UH doesn’t get respect on a national level. The contrast of the records against BCS competition for UH, Utah, BSU, and TCU is significant.

One thing that I should add is that UH’s win over Washington State last year was discounted because Washington State was 0-9 in the Pac-10 and by far the worst Pac-10 team. The 2008 win against Washington State was also discounted because they were 1-8 in the Pac-10, only beating 0-9 U-Dub.

UH’s win in 2007 over Washington also came against the last place team in the Pac-10, so that really didn’t help much for respect. When you put all that in perspective, and consider how BSU beat the Pac-10 champs last year, there is a reason for the lack of national respect.

People don’t give anyone respect for beating teams like NMSU…BSU blew them out 59-0 and dropped in the rankings.

  433. Momo October 25, 2010 9:21 pm

Ms MOMO score UH 42- Them 21

I talked to a lot of GM’s through out the NFL about the availability of Colt Brennan. The word on Colt is that all GM’s seem to agree that in order for him to stick with an NFL team-he has to date Jessica Simpson.

in the voice of Walter Cronkite…”and that’s the way it is.”

  443. Slugger October 25, 2010 10:03 pm

  448. oxtail soup October 25, 2010 10:46 pm

On #429, Greg Salas said the same thing about the WAC not being around anymore in a couple of years in one interview…

About Alex D, the crowd should shout “Oy, Oy, Oy” after he makes a great punt. Aussie style, right?

  449. WarriorMojo October 25, 2010 10:48 pm

Well, I sure hope the weather cooperates for the game and our Aussie friends at the tailgate. It was pretty overcast today.

Do you guys realize that there are only THREE home games left, plus the Hawaii Bowl? Seems like the season just started.

I’m REALLY going to miss this batch of seniors. Salas, Pilares, Bradley, Bryant, Davis, Silva, Thomas, Green, are all very high on my favorite players list, which of course includes my #1 fave, Pepa Letuli, but the list doesn’t end there. Blount and Henry just started to show what they could do this year. Umu is one and done, but he had a great game against USU. Dimude. Tiwanak. Ginlack. Smith.

Every one of those guys plays the game EXACTLY how it should be played. I’m so glad that their senior year is turning into something special.

  450. whitey October 25, 2010 11:10 pm

warriormojo, and like the announcer says, “you ain’t seen nothing yet, there is more to come”. seeing is believing and da warriors as a team is worth seeing because they make you believe.

  451. whitey October 25, 2010 11:11 pm

with that, have a great evening!!!!

  452. jm2375 October 25, 2010 11:16 pm

I’m looking for 1-3 tickets for Saturday’s game. If no mo, then I’ll just buy them there.

  453. oxtail soup October 25, 2010 11:24 pm

Umu also had that great play where he got the ball back from Army and it turned into the game-winning field goal.

Oh, man. Just a few more games and then just that empty part of the year where there’s no more Warrior football. Gaaahhh.

There will still be some NFL football but it’s like – okay, nice, my team won, or they scored a touchdown—yay. good.

It’s not the same as going YYEAAAHHH!!! GO-GO-RUN!!! RUN, RUN – YEAH-TOUCHDOWN WARRIORS!!! HOOHOO!

The University of Hawaii proposes to replace existing bleachers at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Field at the Makai Campus of the University of Hawaii at Manoa. The new structure will be known as the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Facility. The project is intended to consolidate athletic facilities and to allow the Clarence T.C Ching Field to more fully realize its potential as a center of student activity.

Construction of the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Facility involves replacing the existing bleachers at the Clarence T.C. Ching Field with a similar number of seats and ancillary facilities including a ticketing area, concession stands, locker rooms, athletic offices, two sand volleyball courts and support facilities. Short-term impact to air quality, noise, and water quality may occur during construction of the project. No long-term impacts are anticipated to result from development of the project.

  456. WarriorMojo October 26, 2010 12:18 am

    Re #450

The thing is, whitey, I ALWAYS believe in this team. Always. They don’t have to prove anything to win my support. I’m ALL in, ALL the time. Every single year.

Of course there will be bad seasons and games where we get blown out. There will be bitter disappointments and anguish, but that’s just part of being a fan. That comes with the package. And when those times do come, I won’t stab the team in the back because I know they feel the pain worse than me. Piling my misery atop their misery accomplishes nothing.

As long as the team and the coaches stay together, keep fighting, keep giving 100% effort, I will always give them 100% support. I will always believe that this team — even with everything stacked against it, travel time, budget, media indifference, sub-par facilities, etc. — I will ALWAYS believe that this team can produce another dream season.

And when that dream season does come again, it will be oh so sweet because of all the effort that went into it. Our happy will be BETTER than USC’s happy or Texas’ happy or Ohio State’s happy. Hawaii’s happy is undeniably better than EVERYONE else’s happy because we have to overcome so much to attain it. We all know that. That’s why we ALL celebrate when a Hawaii team has success, even our keiki baseball teams.

Maybe one day some of these Hawaii kids that turn down UH scholarship offers to play for some other school will understand that success in Hawaii takes MORE effort, MORE strength, MORE character and MORE talent than success at another school. I want to see ANY SEC school travel like Hawaii does. Michigan State played its first game of the season outside the state of Michigan last week… when it played at Northwestern? And I’m supposed to be impressed? Pfft.

    I believe!!

    Hawaii No Ka Oi!

    UH Warrior fan FOR LIFE!!

Good morning to all the Tsaikos!

Beautiful day in Longhorn Country! Nary a cloud in the sky! We had a big storm pass through a couple of days ago, but that was good for our parched ground. We need to maintain a consistent moisture level in the soil surrounding our homes in Texas because most homes are subject to ground shrinkage that causes foundation shifting.

  509. Okole Maluna October 26, 2010 5:30 am

It will be nice to see JJ back at Hawaii Bowl and that will surely pack the Aloha Arena.

SMU only has last game E Carolina as tough opponents left on schedule and should have easy time against Tulane, UTEP and Marshall. But you never know, plus having their own Bowl in the back yard would be tough sell to SMU fans to come back to Hawaii.

It may be Houston Cougars coming to Hawaii but you know they want to go to Liberty Bowl as Conf USA Champ.

Warriors will soon see who our opponent will be in weeks to come but you know for sure Hawaii will be there whom ever the opponent will be.

I thought Moniz was been listed on Manning Award yesterday but I don’t see his name on the list. Did I hear it wrong or something?

There is four (4) QB from WAC listed with Utah St – Borel, Fresno St – Colburn, Nevada – Kaepernick and of couse Moore from Boise State.

But where is Moniz on Manning Award Watch list (Final)?

    http://www.allstatesugarbowl.org/site340.php

  527. PolyMom October 26, 2010 7:18 am

@356 POOMAI–I have these shirts that keep sun exposure off. Let me say..we see all the Hawaii games on TV this year on GamePlan and CBS Sports this year except for one game that we had to watch online. But moving the games up, I think would give the East Coast voters a chance to see the Warriors and experience the fan base. Then folks like my Mom would go to games as would not be so dark for them to drive home. That is her excuse to dark for her to drive home. LOL!!!

  528. Okole Maluna October 26, 2010 7:21 am

It does mention that WAC has 5 QB represented:

This year’s Watch List includes players from 10 different conferences and one independent. The Atlantic Coast Conference, Pac-10 and Western Athletic Conference are each represented by five players.

But Moniz name is not mention… Got blown away again?

Pomai ~ I’m steppin’ up. No more Mr. Nice Guy. Post my *Balls to the Walls* score – Warriors 70 to the Vandals 07!

Call it my 10 TD Mercy rule. Just like the Wahine SB team, we need to establish a ‘Mercy’ rule. Every team we play from now on should leave the field with the worst ass-whuppin they ever had.

…and just to prove that we are serious.. Do it again next year!

    Unbelieveable !!!!

Very well built. Output is exactly what is described- a nice even swath of noise over the CDMA, 3G and GSM bands. It is putting out a few milliwatts and cell towers put out hundreds of watts- so it works only over 10-50 feet on CDMA and less on 3G. AT&T phones seem to be immune

The Internet is the real world, it just has some aspects that allow a person of lesser means compete with people with much deeper pockets. That is its biggest draw.

  629. Britax Car Seat November 14, 2010 12:08 pm

We have a Britax Boulevard. It’s really easy to install and we love it. We still have it rear facing and it’s so secure it doesn’t budge. My son seems really comfortable in it. The straps are easy to adjust and I feel so good knowing that he’s safe…even in a side impact crash (this is one of the only seats on the market right now that offer excellent side impact protection). The only thing I dislike is the shortness of the crotch strap, but apparently it’s that way so that the other straps lay more accorss the baby’s thighs instead of their tummy. Overall it’s a great seat.

Great information! Keep in mind, too, that “added vitamins and minerals” on a pet food means chemically-synthesized ones. These can have negative consequences, like those seen recently with the Blue Buffalo recall due to too much added vitamin D. Nature’s Logic foods get all nutrients from 100% natural ingredients, like whole foods.
