Florida WR/CB commits to UH
Wide receiver/cornerback Darrian Josey of Florida’s Boynton Beach High told the Warrior Beat he has accepted a football scholarship from the Rainbow Warriors.
He is 6 feet, 175 pounds and can run 40 yards in 4.4 seconds.
Here are his highlights: Josey video

Quarterback Taylor Graham did undergo surgery on his left (non-throwing) shoulder, but he is expected to be ready for spring training in April.
Graham started the first three games of 2013 before suffering the injury. He underwent intensive physical therapy and rehabilitation before eventually returning.
The Rainbow Warriors have four quarterbacks on the roster: Graham, Ikaika Woolsey, Jeremy Higgins and Adonis Phillips. Larry “Tui” Tuileta, a Punahou senior, is expected to sign a letter of intent on Feb. 5.

Kudos to Pomai, Kevin and Ralph for helping to provide championship rings for the Rainbow Wahine softball team. They were honored at halftime of last night’s UH men’s basketball game.
Someone needs to step up
May the best man win…behind a much improved Oline.
I hope recruiting is going well.
With all the excitement at the Stan, hopefully the recruits had fun.
Go Patriots! Hehe…
Just wanna mention how much of a stand-up guy UH softball head coach Bob Coolen is.. At tonight’s men’s basketball game, a fan sitting courtside had his nachos destroyed by a ball going out of bounds. Nachos, cheese, meat, jalapeños… all over the place. Later coach left his seat and disappeared after a while, then I saw him coming back with nachos in hand thinking he just went to get something to eat, but NO. He went over to that guy and gave it to him. Coolen said he “felt so bad to see him without nachos” that he went out of his way to go to the concession stand and take care of that fan whom he didn’t even know.
I believe Kanoa Leahey even mentioned this during the TV broadcast.
*last night’s game… *LAST night’s game.
qb is looking pretty scary this year. i think chow better find a JC guy quick. i just cant buy into TG at the wheel. i think ikaika and higgins will step it up and one of them will take over if no jc guy can be found.
GOOD MORNING HAWAII!
A tip of the hat/cap to Pomai, Kevin and Ralph. They have really done a great job in supporting the softball Wahine!
Taylor Graham is a bit of a mystery to me. So highly touted and yet unable to deliver early in his UH career. It did seem like he was getting in the groove some prior to his injury.
But I also recall how much SS struggled early and how pessimistic we seemed to become about his skills and ability to lead the team. Now SS is being seen with draft potential.
So things change. I hope they do for TG also. He has patiently waited his turn. Coach Chow saw potential in SS when there were doubts, anger and even ridicule. I think coach proved many wrong in this regard. Perhaps the same will happen for TG.
Graham will be the man now that he has a few games under his belt. It was tough to start your career against USC. I know the receivers will be better.
ST… you know about the absence of Gant at the game??
Speaking of sean schroeder he had one heck of a game yesterday. Represented the university really well hope everything goes well for him come draft day. I also hope Taylor Graham heals up quickly seems like a good guy maybe that light will go on like it did with Sean Schroder
I don’t see SS getting drafter, but I could see him signing as an FA. As critical as I was of SS prior to the end of last season, I must admit that he has proven his toughness, leadership, and eventually his smarts. His faults will prevent him from being a starter.
I see him as a Kyle Orton type of QB. A back up that can manage games and come away with some wins.
I just hope that whichever QB wins the job ahead of the season gets as much of a fair shot as SS did the previous 2 seasons. Let’s face it, early on most everyone was wondering why Chow was sticking with SS. Later, he proved that he grew comfortable in the system and was actually able to move the ball, put up some numbers, and score some points.
Whether it is Graham or Woolsey or whoever, he needs the same chance. A chance, I might add, that I feel Graham should have gotten this year had he not been injured. I was wondering why he wasn’t given back the reigns when he was cleared to play, but this surgery report leads me to believe that he wasn’t as healthy as I thought.
13-I agree. Unlike many QBs coming out of college, SS has to past the “under the hood” test, ie measurables, as last night showed he has keen feel for the game and decision making . Oh well, off to my neighborhood tavern to tip back more than a few, and watch the two games–cab it home. Enjoy everyone!
Kevin . . . thanks for sharing that tidbit about Coach Coolen. I tuned into the game just as Kanoa was talking about it. He sure sounds like a great HUMAN BEING (all encompassing of his roles as coach, leader, person, etc.).
And to Kevin, Pomai, Ralph, et. al. . . . it really sounds like you all do a lot for UH softball too. So kudos to you all.
Good morning Tsaikos!
Congrats to both bb teams on their wins last night.
Coach Coolen is a class act.
With Graham’s surgery, even more cause for UH to get a JC QB into the mix.
Pomai, Kevin, and Ralph 3 of 4 booster officers, who just happen to be Tsaikos represented the Wahine SB team well – unfortunately Parnaby could not attend – they looked good!!
heck of a game last night – sat in Sec L with military discounted tickets – excellent crowd on hand.
Jeff Ulbrich might be movin on up …
UCLA: A source says that Jim Mora will promote linebackers / special teams
coordinator Jeff Ulbrich to defensive coordinator.
Their DC went pro.
UH football dilemma will be if TG wins the starting job, they will be faced with another year of an experienced QB to start 2015 – one way to alleviate this is for Chow to allow #2 and #3 QB much playing time in 2014
with games against Big 10 teams, it will not look pretty – especially when UH has to go to their house – Wisconsin and Ohio State
don’t expect much from Zwahlen in 2015 or 2016 because he has limited time, if any, to keep up his skills while serving a 2 year mission even if it’s on the east coast
As I remember, Graham started clicking in the 3rd game then got hurt. Chow sat him out 4-5 games with the non-throwing shoulder injury. I believe in him and if the oline improves, we should be fine.
As for Gant missing in action, it was reported that he got hurt prior to the game and did not suit up.
I think UH is considering going to a four-wide. How this: WR Keith Kirkwood, SB Scott Harding, SB Quinton Pedroza, WR Vasquez Haynes. Diocemy Saint Juste also could swing out to make it a five-receiver set.
# 24 …
now, if only we had an accurate QB, to throw to those 5 guys ….
wishful thinking, or do we have such a QB?
thanks a house.. ne one know how bad he was hurt ?…. or what is the extent of his injury ?
I think TG will be the starter. He’ll have experienced recovers to throw to now and an effective running back.
*receivers
Saw notice for Hal Mumme being named HC at an obscure lower level college. Wasn’t he the OC @ SMU with JJ? Anyone know what happened and when he left?
Welcome to the Warrior ohana, Mr. Josey.
New report says the Dolphins knew all about DB’s problems, but didn’t disclose them to the Browns. All this means is the Dolphins did nothing to help DB. And to think, I used to like that team.
Howzit Gangeez! 🙂
Prayers for quick and complete healing for Graham!
#25 – I think there will be at least one or more QB who can get the job done. Like the idea of a 4 wide.
I love how much more speed we are recruiting at WR. Wish I saw more recruits at the oline position. Was a weakness last year.
Welcome to the Warriors, Mr. Josey!
#30 are you sure Dolphins didn’t disclose? I thought I read that they did and Cleveland did their due deligence and signed him anyway.
Good noonish everyone!
Welcome to the Rainbow Warriors, Darrian Josey!
WD#32 – Where’s da beef!
Beef is coming — 17 recruits visiting in two weeks.
ST,
How many available football scholies left (for those not yet committed)?
That 1 visitor this weekend looked pretty beefy. Looks to be an OL or DT prospect.
We should see if we can get a package deal with Josey’s QB. The guy has a strong arm and nice touch.
I would think if Bess had a mental condition and on some type of antidepressant medication, it wouldn’t be disclosed due to patient/doctor confidentiality, unless there’s some type of stipulation that allows teams to be privy to a players psychological profile.
Hope Kaepernick has a breakout performance today. Been struggling in the pocket as of late.
22… You can’t give #2 and/or #3 much playing time because of practice time limits. Giving the backups as much as 1/2 the reps will only make your starter worse. Offenses and defenses are getting more complex and cutting the reps of the starter only limits the amount of play packages available to use.
The starting QB must be settled pre-season to have the best chance. Look at USC last year… Lame Kiffin continued to give split reps to Wittek and Kessler all the way through the first few games and their offense was out of sync, and nobody looked comfortable. Once Kessler was the established starter, USC’s offense got better and finished the year well, making a bowl game, and completely exposing an overrated Fresno St.
The biggest thing to help the QB is if the OLine can protect. We all just saw what SS did yesterday with a functioning OLine. Graham, Woosely and Tui all have more physical talent than SS.

Also, what happened to Gant? He’s no longer listed on the roster on the NFLPA game website.
Someone posted on another forum that Gant pulled a groin muscle in the very last practice and was subsequently replaced.
Thx Shoko… Tough luck for Gant. I didn’t get to see the practices, what was the word on Gant’s performance in the practices?
42.. He’s been doing better than Wilson in the same stretch. Should be fun…
Way to step up Pomai, Kevin and Ralph!
Kevin- Nice catch on the nachos story. Who doesn’t like reading/hearing about stuff like that? Way to go coach.
Wow… By the looks of the crowd, Seattle did a great job of limiting the number of tickets sold to 49er fans. There’s only a few sporadic specs of red in the stadium.
And Russell Wilson needs a haircut.
Intensity of this game is through the roof…
Navarro Bowman = man-beast
Welcome to the Warriors, Darrian!!
I guess the reason we recruit 6 ft guys who run a 4.4 from the mainland is because we don’t have those kinds of guys here, huh?
Last time I looked, we have lots of kids here with those numbers/stats. Why we gotta get from the mainland what we already have here?
One scholarship to a mainland guy is one less for a local kid.
I don’t get the Tao of chow.
One job for a mainland guy is one less opportunity for a local guy.
#52 do we really have 6 footers with 4.4 speed? Could you name some that want to stay and play for UH??
UH done with local recruiting for 2014. All of this year’s top local HS prospects pretty much already verbally committed somewhere……either to UH or mainland program.
However lots of top-notch local HS prospects in 2015 so definitely worth saving a few next year for the local boys…..just in case.
WD…56….good question…..but by now I think we all know there will not be a rational response to your question
The Josey kid looks good…..speed and night….
Hight
#37 – Stephen –
Good news about the beef – no knock on our current bunch. Its always good to land some big boys along with the speedsters.
Richard Sherman is the truth at corner…Colin looks afraid to even look to his side of the field.
49ers absolutely getting the shaft from the refs…. And Bowman’s knee is toast. That was ugly.
Wow… Karma paying one back. 49ers still only down a FG.
Horrific read and throw by Colin. On the ESPN pre-show, Marucci said that if Colin throws just one pick, they lose—lets see how sage with that premonition.
Seems to me the Hawks and 49er game is over…can’t beat officiating with any coverage or other defensive schemes…imho
been that way from the start of the game…NFL need to review this team of officials
Wonder if Wilson is feeling some nerves… A botched handoff and now a fumbled exchange.
I just assume Aikmen doesn’t like Kaepernick, he spent a solid couple minutes ripping his throw and how he got away with several bad throws the past few weeks. He failed to mention at all that Kaep just didn’t see Chancellor in the flat zone drop back with no flat receiver to cover.
Seattle has the famed 12th man… And it’s been a factor… But not as big as the 13th man (officiating crew).
Sorry, but Crabtree straight “pulled-up” on that play, and did not go all out on 3rd down play…..weak.
Wow that was a clutch throw by Kaep. That was big time.
QBs with three super-bowl winner rings have a lot of latitude on TV.
70… The Seattle CBs are completely in the heads of Crabtree and Vernon Davis. It’s going to be Boldin, Gore out of the backfield, and Kaep’s legs that get them through this.
Ball game… Kaep tried to bite off more than what was there, but what a play by Sherman… Unbelievable body control.
Ahhh–the Mooch becomes a prophet. I will say SF did get some raw calls, but Lynch also started to gash them at key moments, and changed some of the the momentum.
Lots of fireworks going off here.
Sherman is a bad man–period. Extra hot sauce on this one, as he and Harbaugh have some bad blood. As gossip say Jim did not talk him up to scouts out of college, and thus why he (sherman) was in the CFL for a couple of years.
76—WAFAN wish I was there to enjoy the fanfare, and have a Mannys.
OMG….Did anyone hear Sherman just go on a “man-rant” on the post-game??/ Completely called out Crabtree, and then proceeded to call himself the best corner in the game, bar none (true, despite his rant). It was both unsightly and sort of cool at the same time.
Holy crap, the NFL already ran Seattle Conference champions apparel commercial. I guess they can donate the 49ers gear to a 3rd world country now that it’s not needed.
Neighborhood going crazy with lots of fans. Where did they come from?
He called Crabtree on national TV, a “sorry-ass” receiver…hilarious.
boola . . .
Yeah. That was so unnecessary for him to do. I tell my kids to be humble in victory.
And, a good evening, everyone!
Sherman is a man with many chips on his shoulders, some of them valid, others merely stimulus and hyperbole to play professional sports. It was unsightly, the female announcer was thoroughly shocked….
Did anyone read the stats for Darrian Josey on Hudl? His speed for the 100m is listed as 9.85 and of course the world record is something like 9.58 by Bolt. I don’t think UH has ever had anyone under 10 seconds for the 100m, maybe for 100 yards.
I used to deal with Bob Coolen as a sports rep way back when the wahine was just beginning to excel. I saw him a few years back as I no longer do repping but he was as nice to me as before when I got him some sponsorship deals. I am glad that he’s doing great things.
Two great games today. It’s going to be a great Super Bowl!!!
chips or not….no class dudes will end up eating their own “stew” later…goes around, comes around. sorry the dude don’t have class and professionalism. hope the kids don’t copy this dude.
What an NFC championship game. I love HD big screen TV until the injuries. Ouch. Bowman’s was brutal. Worse than Theisman’s back in the day as far as visuals go. At least he had karma working for him, as mentioned above, and SF got another chance. Sherman’s post game was hilarious!
89–The irony about Sherman is that he is actually a highly articulate and intelligent guy. Double major at Stanford. And while certainly not endorsing his behavior, trash talking is a staple of sports. Michael Jordan and Larry Bird, were both known as ferocious world class trash talkers, and I don’t know if they suffered any the worse for it…..
ah, and my “perfect sports weekend” comes crashing down as the golden gazelle from Reno continues to focus only on his primary receiver instead of going through his “progressions” – final result a wide open #11 in the opposite side of the end zone just standing there while the Seahawks intercept in the end zone
he has done this from last year!!
and, the “zebras” did their work again against the Niners – same crew as the regular season games? 49ers got hosed and good
a Seahawk fan will probably rebut, but the screen does not lie – at least 3 or 4 stripped ones must have blinked their eyes simultaneously not to see #53 with the ball after he stripped it from the Seattle WR and go to the ground with the ball – did it matter, yes even thou the Niners got the ball back with the 4th and goal stand – the pattern is unmistakable – jus my 1 cent
Niners must get a QB that will challenge Kaepernick who is much to comfortable without a credible challenger.
83… Hard to believe a guy from Stanford would act like that, but it is what it is.
92.. Hard to complain too much about Kaep, without him, this game would have been a blowout. 49ers couldn’t do squat in the run game with Gore. Crabtree and Vernon Davis were completely taken out mentally.
RE zebras… They would fit right in with the Mountain West crews.
I think the game is becoming to fast for the officials. Maybe they need to add addition officials on the playing field.
#93, didn’t he say he went to congratulate Crabtree with a handshake but he pushed his hand away and gave him some trash. That’s why he went off on that rant. He was fine after that but you can’t take back what was said.
96.. I don’t know… I didn’t see the exchange.
Although I am curious on what a double major Stanford grad says while talking trash in live action. Do you think he breaks out some high academic smack, or is it the usual bleep this, bleep that, you suck rants?
97–FUHA, it was much more the bleep-bleep version. He was genuinely heated, but then again the game just ended. What folks forget, that while it would be great to have sportsmanship and all of that, these are grown men playing for car notes, mortgage payments, and all the other trappings of adulthood. And they play what is the most brutal and player unfriendly sport (relative to MLB, NBA, or even NHL) in regards to contracts and player longevity. So, kind and measured words are not of a high priority…unfortunate, but true. On the other hand, I think, most of fans who watch the NFL will say that Crabtree is not on the upper margin of NFL wideouts, has lots of talent, but just not there…so, Sherman was fairly accurate.
Did Tsai say Hawaii going use 4 and 5 wide sets?
Wow!!!!!! Joey in backfield too? Wow !!!!
Thank you,thank you coach!!!!!!!!
Imua Warriors!!!!
Car notes and mortgages are paid and dealt with by the working class of America.
Celebrities and professional entertainers/athletes are paying for luxuries and an excessive and unnecessary lifestyle.
But I was entertained by Sherman’s antics. Don’t fool yourselves “Football America”. That kind of attitude is brought on an ENCOURAGED by the TV networks and the NFL profits from it. Why else would Terry Bradshaw give Sherman the mic afterwards to speak and handed him the trophy and told him to show it off? Why else would the host of that TV morning show with Kelly Ripa make fun of Sherman scaring Erin Andrews in the post game show?
I smile when I see people get flustered and bothered with “questionable” actions from professional entertainers/athletes. Mainstream modern society has pulled out their wallets and their brains for the products they “enjoy”. Sure we generally want a sense of decorum from people we place on pedestals, but the bottom line is actions like these, while not an everyday occurrence IS a direct result of the lifestyle and the demand YOU the people have bestowed upon them with a false sense of entitlement and status.
When they all “fail”… always can count on the collegiate student-athletes so still show us what playing for the right reasons is all about.
The Niners and Patriots are upset now, but soon they will head off to their multi-million dollar lifestyle and move on. Student-athletes are not afforded such comfort after a hard loss and further more they return to their dorms to focus on their academics late into the evening to prepare themselves for a career in actual service to society via nursing programs, medical technology, law degrees, social work, etc…
101, no doubt. These are not role models, at least, not by choice. Just entertainers, participating in the paradigm of market forces that allow them this type of compensation. That said, you have greater chances being a surgeon than playing in the NFL. Thus, you are almost looking for singular skill sets. That said, it does not excuse boorish behavior.
“A lion doesn’t concern himself with the opinions of a sheep.” Last tweet of Mr. Sherman before he went radio silent…..classic.
Advice from God for Mr. Sherman:
Do not be quickly provoked in your spirit, for anger resides in the lap of fools.
Ecclesiastes 7:9
104. Yes. But, depending on what side you advocate, one could say:
” God didn’t give us a spirit that is timid but one that is powerful”
2 Timothy 1:7
yes boolakanaka; the wise person sows to the spirit while the fool sows to the flesh
Josey looks pretty good. Good straight line speed, but doesn’t show a lot of shiftiness. He’s just blowing by DBs that don’t have a prayer in keeping up with him. Hard to project his future status until he develops. He looks like he’ll need a couple seasons before he’s ready to compete for a starting spot.
