Gone to Maui

WAILUKU — Maui’s War Memorial Gym has undergone a Manoa makeover with today’s volleyball match between UH and California Baptist.

UH brought over most of the elements from their home matches — statisticians, marketing/promotions staff, statisticians, cheerleaders, and anouncers Billy V. and Ben Kiaaina — for this non-conference match. Maui High’s band volunteered to perform.

The gym, which holds about 2,000, was packed, with fans waving ti leaves that were distributed at the door.

    Good morning, again!

Softball update: The Na Wahine Softball Booster Club has permission to collect donations at all of the games this season. We’ll be there with our ‘collection plate’ and booster club membership forms.

One of Coach Coolen’s goals for the proceeds is $4000 to take the team to the Big Island to play UH-Hilo! Not this season, but I thought he said November. I’ll check again to confirm the timeframe.

Na Wahine play at noon today. See y’all there!

  21. Derek February 12, 2011 11:05 am

Did you know……that Navy has 55 football commitments for 2011. Army has 44 and Air Force has 34. Are they limited to 25 scholarships per year and 85 total like everybody else or are they exempt. I would think they would be following the NCAA guidelines. In the military, these young men are appointed and nominated by someone else usually a congressman. Everybody that goes to a service academy gets a free ride on Uncle Sam.
In that regard, I guess there is no such thing as an athletic scholarship and they are not limited as to how many servicemen can play football. I guess I answered my own question.
When I saw the number of commitments at first I was taken aback.

  22. madeinhawaii February 12, 2011 11:12 am

Good to see your presence… You ambling about, now?

  23. SteveM February 12, 2011 11:12 am

Derek — students in a military academy become officers when they graduate and must serve for at least one hitch. I never considered the athletic scholarship concept beyond them being admitted. Interesting.

BTW, please email your past Alaska cruise info. stevem.hnl (at) gmail.com

  24. madeinhawaii February 12, 2011 11:17 am

Do the military academies charge tuition and housing?

  25. kawika49 February 12, 2011 11:22 am

#24 They get paid, and have housing and clothing allownce.

  26. Dennis Halloran February 12, 2011 11:23 am

Most of the academy recruits end up in their Prep School, effectively red shirting but playing a JC football Schedule NICE
    Look up Army Prep

  27. kawika49 February 12, 2011 11:24 am

$764 a month, plus free medical.

I hope Michelle Smith is paying attention! 😆

  30. madeinhawaii February 12, 2011 11:28 am

So essentially.. every service academy student is on a deferred tuition, rather than scholarship. They get paid.. have housing and clothing allowance, but in return, when their college years are up, they are obligated to a number of years of military duty … essentially paying back what they “borrowed.”

  31. madeinhawaii February 12, 2011 11:30 am

    SteveM #23:

only exception to that was the DLine man who was drafted by the Cowboys, IIRC, who “repaid” the Air Force for his education, some $250,000 back then, and skipped military service – forgot his name.

Roger Stauback served 4 years and then played for the Cowboys. Same for the “Admiral”.

Since then, the military acadamies, via Dept of Defense, changed the rule and all must serve their commitment.

I’ve been told that green tea is not good for people who have heart problems. Also, grapefruit. Like anything else, moderation is the key.

A-House: the guy you’re thinking about that went to the Cowboys is Chad Hennings. He was a great defensive lineman at Air Force. I think he made All-America.

No one disputes the benefits of green tea. Some cautiions: heart patients taking medications can interact w/ green tea and cause palpitations. People with irregular heart beats (atrial fibrillation) should be careful. Moderation is the best. Also, too much green tea can cause more increased possibililty of kidney stones. Again, don’t go overboard, but enjoy yourself.

  61. seasider February 12, 2011 2:32 pm

Bottom of the 6th Melissa Gonzales hit a grandslam HR over the center field fence, giving the Wahine a 5-1 lead head to the top of the 7th.

You need to take CoQ10 if you are taking statin drugs. The statin drugs remove CoQ10 from your body. CoQ10 in necessary for muscle formation and regeneration. In other words while the statin drugs reduce your cholesterol count it reeks havoc on you heart and internal organs.

Mahalo nui loa to all of those who donated to the Na Wahine Softball team at today’s games. We raised a bunch of money with outright donations and through people joining the Booster Club. It’ll go towards travel for the softball game with UH-Hilo on MAUI (corrected by Pomai). We’ll have to get the date later from those in the know, but right now, we’re just working toward that $4,000 goal. Tanks, eh!

Heck uva day! Was meeting with Kekoa and we decided the meeting should be held on the way to the softball game. We sure enjoyed a close, well-played game until that dramatic grand slam closed it out. Kaia showed she could control the game except for that one mistake. Having two quality starters is wonderful for these tournaments with a lot of games in one weekend.

Heard the Texas State fans were very upset over their upset by UC Davis when the coach didn’t pitch their ace. As things turned out, he can pitch her in tomorrow’s game. With Kaia and Stephanie pitching today, I wonder who Coolen will pitch tomorrow…

  109. HiFlyer February 12, 2011 9:20 pm

BG – No game tomorrow, next game is monday at 5:00 pm.

  110. Kazz_DROID.X February 12, 2011 9:34 pm

Kaia showed she’s still steady when the team isnt hitting and Ricketts blew past the opposition to keep the pace of the entire game as fast as possible.

When one really looks at the opening weekend, it was the pitching duo or Ricketts and Parnaby that got us to 5-0 as they held the opposition at bay long enough for the rest of the team to get the job done at the plate.

HUGE test coming up in Vegas and in Cali… HUGE TEST.

With each Na Wahine homerun, the bell will be rung and the announcer will inform the crowd that donations are open for “Dollars for Dingers”. Tell everyone that it’s an old tradition that has just been started and where the jar is located so fans can show their appreciation with $$$. Train-up the fans and watch the $$$ roll in. Probably could have gotten $200 for the grand slam…even if the Utah fans didn’t contribute anything :D:

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.

Getting health right is not always about all that though is it? Sometimes I find it’s more of a state of mind than anything else, where you need to be in total control of what you are trying to achieve. That probably sounds a bit voodoo, but you know what I mean.

Wahine have a different look this year and it will be surprising if they hit more than 90 HRs this season. Coach Coolen is still looking for a banger to fill Amanda’s shoes although he has auditioned both Makani and Jocelyn to take swipes. Yet, his most prized swat prospect, Stephanie Ricketts, has yet to take one official swing in five games. Ricketts has maimed softballs in batting practice. She is a natural sultan of the swat.
Coach Bob, perhaps has offered a clue as to subtle changes by shifting his top-5 in the order and moving Alex to #3 and moving Melissa and Jenna to #4 and #5 respectively.
We have also seen 3 bunts–two from the top-five (Alex and Jenna). Additionally, the wahine are 7-7 in SBs and Aquirre is 4-4. It’s clear his thoughts on the bottom-four newbees are for more speed than fence-bashing. Sharla and Kaile are making fast impression on both sides of the diamond, but 1B, RF and DP are still up for grabs. It may take the full 34-game preseason for the full order to emerge, if it does.

One thing for sure, pencil this date–Feb 24th–for the sister-duel-in-the-desert at Cathederal City featuring the Ricketts’, Stephanie and Keilani.
Hopefully, Hawaii’s #10 get her chance to swat and will take her sis, deep to center and out. Hoo-Rah!

Moving house in the UK is a hard thing. Don?t just take it all on yourself and your family to deal with all of the logistics, get a removals company to assist you. Ensure you pick a business that has been recommended by someone you know or a company that has good online reviews. If you choose the right one, a removals company can be a life saver. Some of the bigger businesses are understaffed and over priced therefore I suggest you look for a local removal company.

For individuals seeking effective methods of weight loss, including women in their reproductive years, the serotonin-modulating appetite suppressant fenfluramine and the related dexfenfluramine are commonly administered. appetite suppressants are not recommended during pregnancy, the possibility exists that a woman could be taking fenfluramine before knowing she is pregnant, raising concerns about possible effects of these compounds on birth development in a women.

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

I tried one of the threads in the tutorial section which advised me to update to 5.03 official firmware, but when I try doing that I get the “DADADADA” error (I guess because I already have a custom firmware). So what is the best method for me to get to the latest and greates custom firmware? And also, which one is the best custom firmware to use at the moment?

I’ve got good extended, skinny but muscly arms and I’ve good toned, skinny but muscly legs using a reasonably flat stomach but I’ve lost so a lot weight with my boobs and bum. I’m sort of feeling poor about this simply because I naturally retailer weight in my stomach so I really feel like I’ve to most boyish figure, I imply I really feel worse off now then prior to, simply because all I needed ahead of was a flat stomach and now I sort of have that but at a major price. So now I’ve started out consuming much more and stuff, and my question is if my boobs and bum will get larger? Or will my stomach just plop out once again?

Another thing I’ve noticed is the fact that for many people, a bad credit score is the consequence of circumstances further than their control. For example they may have already been saddled by having an illness and because of this they have substantial bills for collections. It might be due to a employment loss or maybe the inability to work. Sometimes separation and divorce can send the finances in a downward direction. Many thanks for sharing your opinions on this website.

I have seen loads of useful items on your website about pcs. However, I have the opinion that laptops are still more or less not powerful enough to be a good choice if you usually do tasks that require many power, just like video editing. But for net surfing, statement processing, and many other prevalent computer work they are perfectly, provided you cannot mind small screen size. Appreciate sharing your opinions.
