Gone to Maui
WAILUKU — It was an interesting practice although, because of the injuries and depth concerns, there were limitations on the length of the “scrimmage.”
Among the highlights:
• Cecil Doe made a leaping catch, eluded a defender and then raced the rest of the way to complete a 60-yard scoring play.
• Jeremy Higgins continued his candidacy for the quarterback’s job by completing 5 of 9 passes for 135 yards (including that TD to Doe).
• Miah Ostrowski had another good outing, with two catches for 50 yards. He caught a 19-yard TD pass from Higgins.
• It’s been a good spring for freshman center Ben Clarke, who is anchoring the offensive line, and linebacker Dylan McCagg, who intercepted a pass.
• Waylon Lolotai might be on the move again. Dustin Elisara suffered a leg injury, leaving the Warriors without a fullback. Lolotai, who has played linebacker, defensive end, offensive tackle and tight end, was used as a backfield blocker.
• Interesting that the two No. 1 tight ends — Tavita Woodard and Craig Cofer — were backup defensive ends last year. Cofer, who has been the blocking tight end, moved to F yesterday. That’s the motion guy.
Now I know why UH couldn’t get any of the 8 a.m. flights. There’s a large group of tourists heading to Maui. I wonder if they can be re-directed to War Memorial?
Good morning, gang!
Have a great trip and enjoy the scrimmage.
I have class today. 🙁
Morning St
Will you be reporting live from Maui on yr blog?
Maybe the 0800 flt passengers were only disguised as tourists
but in fact the Tsaiko contingent heading ova to see the practise and meet whitey.
ST ~
What time is your flight? Going early? Eat some guri guri for me.
Morning Slugger – class, what kind?
Hows work doing?
Looks like you’re keeping yourself very busy.
We were going over early. Then UH learned it couldn’t get seats on the 8 a.m. flights, thus the change in starting time for the practice. We hope to make it before the first ka-toosh. (Oh, wait, think Dr. Price trademarked that phrase.)
By the way, Jason Kaneshiro wrote a very nice softball story. (It’s on the front page of the sports section.)
See?
Everything always works out.
safe journey and enjoy the dark side maui
top 10.
Good morning Tsaikos. Yea!!!!

Morning, 702WarriorFan,
I am working in the solar install industry and am taking an Intro to PV Design & Install class. The lab is on Saturdays; hope we get to do the hands-on install work today on the mock-up they have at HCC. I just schedule installs, but need to understand how the systems are put together and the terminology. Only a few more weeks of class though. Whew! We are busy; I was at work till 9 pm last night. Sooooo, I woulda gone to Maui, but no can. Told my compadres on Maui to go to the scrimmage…
Good morning! Have a great day everyone!
Slugger,
Sounds like an interesting subject and work on renewables.
Hope we can discuss this one day.

Off subject,
Any Tsaiko ate at Sam Wo in SFO?

702WF,
If they no let the Chop Suey house ladies make the won ton on one table in front what!? They supposed to make ’em in the kitchen?
At least we see ’em wiping the table in front! 😈
Always enjoyed watching the ladies make won ton while
eating at McCully Chop Sui.
Enjoyed watching the cook prepare meals adjacent to the front door at a restaurant in Vancouver westside while waiting for a table. Great food too.
Too funny. They worry about food safety at one 100 year-old Chinese restaurant?
The Chinese gotta be doing sumting right, get over 1 billion of ’em!
Looks like nice weather in Kahului.
ST I don’t think anyone suggested that Jason was not a good reporter because we all know he is. What was brought up IMHO was the lack of coverage by who ever makes up the breaking news section of the online edition. I have to agree that it does seem bias to the revenue sports over the non-revenue ones, not just softball but most non-revenue ones. But thats OK because they all will have their day in the sun. “GO NA WAHINE”
Morning, everyone!
Here today; gone to… grocery shopping… in a few minutes.
Go, Wahine!
Go, Warriors!
Go, ‘Bows!

Late-arriving crowd, I think.
Maybe about 100 in the stands at the moment.
Warriors scheduled to do the haka in about 5 minutes.
From yesterday:
Mahalo, Al! I hate when I’m thinking of something, and it’s on the tip of my tongue, and I just can’t remember it.
At any rate, I used to love eating that stuff. So many (seemingly) simple snacks that we’d munch on in our growing-up dayz. Those wonton chips (in da red/blue/clear package with da weightlifter/barbell on it) was another winnah!
Maui… Maui get some ‘ono grindz too. Man…
Have a great weekend, everyone!
Good morning everyone!
Have a great day in Wailuku!
…and a great night where whitey roams…. 🙂
It’s getting really warm here. We’re trying to figure out which side the sun sets.
Thanks for updates from the stadium ST! Hopefully, a great turnout soon! Go Warriors!
We shouuld put our spring game on Chanel 12 I’m seeing every school on ESPN
OK, five sections are starting to fill up. Not bad, considering the heat.
And the Warriors are being introduced.
The Warriors are now doing the haka, led by Kamalani Alo.
They’re playing Hawaii ’78.
And all eyes are scanning to see if B.J. Penn is here.
The first adjustment: The music isn’t loud enough.
Did you get your IPhone yet, ST? Looking forward to any pictures today!
isn’t bj penn #37?
Maui’s Uncle Loui’s red hotdogs……..mean!

bik…we’ve been gobbling that thin sliced beef jerky that is sold in kta stores. some good dat one.
you know…hawaii would be a good place to walk on, transfer, or send in a recruit tape if you were an olineman.
Just finished the Oklahoma drill.
Waylon Lolotai took down Alema Tachibana.
In the big upset, Will Gregory defeated Leroy Lutu.
Apparently Justin Alo is injured. He did not make the trip.
By the way, there was a really tall guy talking to Phil Rauscher before practice.
Calen Friel is looking good in the football-stripping drills. Shhh. Don’t tell the offensive coaches.
which Oahu peeps made it over?
wot SteveM not there
Chinedu Amadi is back with the receivers.
Need to draw considerably larger crowd before hoping to televise Spring game.
The Ohio St. U had 81000+ today!
….Urban legend?
Re: 56. Maybe that was the 6-foot-4 sophomore linebacker from Baldwin who was supposedly offered a scholarship?
Koakane,

Cheepono:
Rauscher is the recruiting coordinator.
Dunnachie just launched a 70-yard punt, on the fly.
@68 awesome!
Good morning Tsaikos!
Thanks for the reports from “practice” as usual.
Not being able to get seats on a flight – this is what happens when there’s only *1* major airline flying interisland. Now if there was still the SuperFerry. (But, I’m not bitter or anything)
thanks ST. forgot he was the RC.
Wahine up 2-0, top 4th. Nevada brings in new pitcher. 😀
Good Morning Gangeez! 🙂
Hope everyone on Maui is having an awesome day! Sounds like a great time!

• Charles Clay, who moved to safety, has pass knockdown off a blitz.

slow starting wahines, come on ladies wake up dem bats
In 1947, Jackie Robinsin broke the color barrier becoming the first black player in American Major League history. Shamefully, it took 1955 for the N.Y. Yankees to sign its first black player, Elston Howard. Do you know who the 1st Polynesian Head Coach in College football? Our own Dr. Larry Price. The first Samoan American Head Coach in college football? Our own Ken Niumatalolo. The 1st Asian Amerian Head Coach in college football? Our own Norm Chow. Only in Hawaii. We’re the bestest. The first Asian American to be Head Mannager for Major League Baseball is Don Wakamatsu for the Seattle Mariners. Baseball and Basketball on the pro level is seeing more Asian American athletes, but NFL football I think correct me if I’m wrong has never seen Asian American players.
wahines in trouble bottom of 4, can do ladies can do
alls quiet must be a blast at cc
cheeewhoooo
one puka puks
puks=puka my bad
RE: Asian American athletes in NFL. Am sure there have been a number. Wally Yonamine played for the SF 49ers in 1947. Technically the 49ers were in the All American Conference at that time which merged with the NFL. He was a legend in Japanese baseball so we often forget his football achievements.
Oddly enough the Boston Red Sox in 1958 still had not signed black players. The commissioner got angry and scolded the Red Sox. Lenn Sakata ached to be a baseball Major league manager. But he was continually passed over. Wally Yonamine was a superb athlete. China contributing GIANTS to the NBA. Now retired 7’6″ Yao Ming and 7’9″ Sung Mingming
Thanks for the sports updates. I’m only just now sitting down to eat lunch at Ward area.

No 5:00 news headlines about any major ruckus on the Dark Side of Maui.
That’s a good sign!
…but it’s early! 😈 😛 😆
Perfect game.
Don’t hear that too often
make up game should be at San Jose State on May 1.
Well, Fresno will be dragging their okoles back to the Mainland after next weekend. 😀
I went to Maui today to see practice for the first time this year and wanted to share my impressions.
1. Tyler Hadden looks a lot stronger, they did not do any kick offs but his strength and height on field goals
Is vastly better. The kickers were down wind but the wind was not strong. He was kicking from 50 yards with room to spare. When Dunachie hits a spiral it goes 60 to70 yards.
2. This teams attitude especially on offense is night and day difference from last year. They look more aggressive, attacking, passionate, definitely more competitive.
3. The QB,s all have their positives, Graves and Woolsey may be a bit more athletic, Higgins has a beter touch on his throws
4. To me this offense is a higher level from the run & shoot. The variety of formations, multiple personnel attacking the defense looks daunting for a defense to adjust to. However I do not think that UH will be able to run Coach Chows offense in it’s entirety this year. The QB,s have great moments but all lack consistency and seem to struggle with there reads. I think Coach
Chow is going to keep his offense simple focusing on the areas that his players do well at. To me this offense wil blossom over the next three years before we se the whole offense.
5. Ol on the right side were all freshmen, Clarke at center, Dew at right guard and Muir at right tackle. If Shigematsu gets his medical hardship that could be four freshmen starting.
6. The one on one,s between between receivers and db’s were great. The best cover people are definitely
Tuilau,Maggett,Clay, Bubba, and Johnson. Cecil Doe was having a good day, he definitely has some speed.
The outstanding part is hard these players are competing against each other. It is intense.
7. I left feeling that a lot of personnel is settled as far as who will be in the rotations on defense. On offense I do not believe that any positions are really settled. Iosefa probably has the running back position but he is going to be pushed by LIster and Gregory. Gregory hits the hole fast and he has the speed to take it outside.
Right on Kkv2000!
Excellent report.
Mahalo!
Coach Rolo’s Reno offense beat wolfpack’s defense in their
silver and blue spring game. qb Fjardo was hot with 19 for 22.
And “tight end” stud, sudfeld, caught 9 passes for 118 yeards.
Gotta watch out for him…
Will UH actually have a game like everyone else seems to be doing?
Kkv2000 thanks for your insights!
Three years seems about right.
Everyone’s a Freshman right now.
kkv2000
thanks for your insight, bro!
exdciting times for sure!
Howzit kkv2000,
Thanks for the report!
Wow it’s been awhile. I might be wrong, but it seems like you were MIA throughout the Mack era.
I just watched Dr. Oz talk about about tart cherry juice for arthritis pain. I found some from Fruit Advantage
an how is whitey doing da haka on da dark side? 😀
thanks for the meds. whitey. da bugga tastes onno. 😆 no taste. da bestest!!!
Tight ends in Rolo’s offense? … hmmm.. doesn’t sound like the ole RnS, eh?
whitey.
da spam just wen remind me,
no mo colon cramp.
Thanks for to the folks who put up the video of the Maui practice and interviews!
But, they need to invest in a (better?) wind screen.
@Big Hilo Fan 2– we wish we could have been there. But you can’t tell work to stop.
If I were there you are right, I would have been screaming my head off.
Looks like strict discipline will turn this team around.
Aloha all will try to check in over the next three weeks as I will be out of the country.
Go Warriors!!!!!!
Kkv2000 . . .
Thanks for the report!
d1shima 89.

How zit Kapakahi, I have been MIA the last three years. On the plane I was sitting in front of Stephen Tsai and he didn’t recognize me until I said hello. I have enjoyed reading yours and everyone else’s insights these last three years. I am very excited about the future after today. I look forward to seeing you at some fall practices if they are open. I really look forward to all the comments on this board as I learn so much from everyone’s input
slow sports nite: OT seen any of these peeps lately?
http://www.fbi.gov/wanted/topten
Dylan McCagg
sure am glad he’s looking to make a huge impact. must be his senior year. thick looking brudda. good for him!
da warriors in spring practice on maui would be rated very good. they have sum talented ones and sum that are grinders. they may not be as talented, but that doesn’t stop them from giving their best shot. it was fun to watch them and the coaches. one thing is highly noticeable, practice is non-stop and there is no down time. one of the tsaikos said practice is different under coach chow and he even has a whistle. come to think of it, niether JJ or Mc neva have one.
also all da warriors who are healthy participated . no “lollygagging”. hahahahahaha
i don’t think the last spring practice friday night will be flashy, but all who are there will get to see the progress of da warriors this spring.
I guess that would be the ” H back ” position I’ve been looking for …..
” Interesting that the two No. 1 tight ends — Tavita Woodard and Craig Cofer — were backup defensive ends last year. Cofer, who has been the blocking tight end, moved to F yesterday. *** That’s the motion guy. *** “
moo call had jmacro, myki, sailor blue and his better half, haleakala, stretch, pp, st, derek i and his asst, mauiboy, and one of the photographers.
Yes! that was Jordan Hoiem on the field watching practice, he was invited by Coach Chow to hang with the team. Seen kicker CJ Santos on field talking to Coach Chow after practice, word is that he will transfer to UH.
what happened to brandon leslie?
Thanks for the Maui scrimmage reports. I’ll definitely make it next Friday.
Lovely just what I was looking for. Thanks to the author for taking his clock time on this one.
