Good Morning Folks!
Let’s Go Bows! Bring home a W!
Yeehaw!
14 wafan – glad you caught your error…I was getting concerned; thought you might be manifesting early signs of dementia. LOL!
Find and repair the Paniolo Trophy
The only problem is that no one in Laramie or Manoa could find it. No one on either campus had a clue where the coveted Paniolo Trophy actually was. It is not in a glass case on display in Wyoming or Hawaii. Nor was it in a storage closet Wyoming officials investigated.
I thought perhaps it was being hidden for safe-keeping in the basement of Wyoming sports media relations authority Tim Harkins, but he denies it.
“I can confirm that’s not the case,” Harkins said the other day.
The trophy is a beauty. It consists of a cowboy on the back of his steed twirling a lariat. We all know why this would appeal to a school with the nickname Cowboys, but as it so happens Paniolo is the Hawaiian word for cowboy.
The trophy’s origins date to 1979 when Hawaiian residents who had roots in Wyoming funded it. For 19 years the trophy built up frequent flyer miles.
Then it disappeared. Wyoming and Hawaii stopped scheduling one another after the Cowboys’ 35-6 victory in 1997. No one knows what happened to the trophy after that and fresh investigations dead-ended when the series was renewed.
Harkins said a long-time Wyoming equipment manager told him that when the Cowboys prepared to reclaim the trophy in ’97 his counterpart at Hawaii said it was broken, that he would have it fixed, and then shipped to Laramie. So perhaps the U.S. mail is to blame. Easy fall guy.
http://trib.com/sports/college/wyoming/all-points-bulletin-for-missing-wyoming-hawaii-trophy/article_b13c9f3c-59a3-50e9-a0b8-d8cc5f5076b3.html
Wyoming Star-Tribune staff writer Mike Vorels “keys” to beating the Warriors. Reads like Hawaii’s keys to beating the Cowboys.
1. Sustain drives. Wyoming’s offense has scored 17 points in the first quarter in the last two games, and zero points the rest of the way. The Cowboys’ offense needs to find a way to sustain long drives, and more importantly, convert those drives into points at the other end.
2. Establish the run. After rushing for 290 yards against San Jose State three weeks ago, Wyoming rushed for only 156 yards against Fresno State and 55 yards against Boise State, its worst output of the season. A consistent running game would keep Brett Smith and the Wyoming offense out of third-and-long situations, a place they have been far too often the last few weeks.
3. Get the defense off the field. It’s no secret that Wyoming’s defense is agonizingly thin, featuring only five consistent players in four spots on the defensive line. That lack of depth has been exposed in the current four-game losing streak, as the defense has allowed an average of 29.75 points in the second half during that stretch. The Cowboys need to get stops, avoid long drives and stay fresh against Hawaii.
4. Win the turnover battle. In the first six games of the season, when Wyoming went 4-2, the Cowboys never once lost the turnover battle. In the last four games, all losses, Wyoming has committed more turnovers than its opponent each time. The message is simple: If the Cowboys hold on to the football, they’ll give themselves a chance to win for the fifth time.
5. Stop the run. Wyoming’s run defense has been awful this season, allowing an average of 236.3 rushing yards per game. And Hawaii, on the other hand, has leaned heavily on the run in its last two games, as running back Joey Iosefa has ran for 341 yards and two touchdowns in those games. The Cowboys’ defensive line needs to rise to the challenge and bottle up Iosefa for four quarters.
Welcome the Hawaii cowboy
An old tradition between the universities of Wyoming and Hawaii is revived at today’s football game in Laramie when the winner will take home a new bronze maquette that features Hawaiian native Ikua Purdy roping a wild stag bill. The Paniolo (Hawaiian for cowboy) Trophy replaces a trophy mysteriously lost during the 15-year hiatus in games between the two schools. A Hawaiian group dedicated to celebrating the cowboy traditions in their state brought back the trophy tradition in time for today’s game.

The running thing is the original Paniolo Trophy was a bookend.
So if the original trophy is missing, well, um … isn’t there a twin?
Paniolo trophy returns to Hawaii!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is there a free web channel to watch the game today?
Yes, there is a free stream for this game.
Paniolo Trophy is probably one of the nicer trophies in the conference next to the Fremont Cannon.
Aloha kakahiaka.
The new “Paniolo Trophy” will return to Hawaii.
Imua Rainbow Warriors!!!
Good morning, Tsai-kos and Lurk-ers! 🙂
Do your hurry up huddle and or take your time at the scrimmage line
so you can keep the defense off the field!
I’ll be cheering for you Warriors!!!
GOOD MORNING HAWAII!
Portnoy would probably make a great regent – smart guy but a basketball nut. Might translate to all sports except he went to a non-football school. While Duke has a football team (ask SS), you never hear about it. All I can remember hearing is about Coach K and basketball! (LOL)
Where do you go for the live stream? Mahalo.
Paniolo with upper case “P” is defined as a Spanish person. paniolo with lower case “p” or also paniolo pipi is defined as a cowboy. Haʻawina ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi i ʻoukou. Go Warriors!!!
Thought Portnoy went to Syracuse.
With continuing negative comments I feel compelled to comment. Without a grabbing the helmet by Hawaii frosh against winstreaking UNLV, and one running into the kicker by another frosh against a hot SDSU team, Hawaii might have had significant road win and a spoiler win against a hot team. I know, woulda’, coulda’, shoulda, but these are freshmen mistakes and correctable with experience. Give Chow another year.
Let’s go bows! Go Warriorz!
Gee, it’s early and already nobody can get along. So, to end the fighting, we’re going to put manoa#1, WAR and Doh Bell in timeout today.
#25 Where is the free stream for the game?
Pound the Rock with Joey,Lakalaka
and Saint J.
Don’t give into the altitude and we
will be victorious boys!!!!!!!
Our first victory is for the taking!
Imua warriors!!!!
BEEG MAHALO fo dat ST….
IMUA WARRIORS!
IMUA WARRIORS!
IMUA WARRIORS!
IMUA WARRIORS!
IMUA WARRIORS!
Oh, forgot to include the link in my post about the free stream.
Here you go:
http://www.campusinsiders.com/network/mw/live
Please can I get more info. on where to watch the game via stream line.
Mahalo Shoko
Is kickoff at 9?
North Shore:
It was getting a little personal (toward each other), and very redundant (for the rest of us).
Just dislike it when the playhouse gets cluttered.
Thank you, Mr. Tsai!
We referring to tweets in 3rd person now? =)
Jason Gesser was named Wyoming’s new quarterbacks coach in February 2013. He was most recently the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of Idaho in 2012. He also served as the interim head coach at Idaho for the final four games of the Vandals’ 2012 season. Gesser spent two seasons at Idaho, originally joining the Vandals as running backs coach for the 2011 season.
Gesser was an All-America quarterback at Washington State his senior season of 2002, and finished seventh in the Heisman Trophy balloting that season. Gesser led Washington State to a 10-3 record in 2002 and a berth in the Rose Bowl versus Oklahoma. Washington State concluded the season ranked 10th in the final Associated Press poll.
Born May 30, 1979, Gesser grew up in Honolulu, Hawai’i, where he played his prep football at Saint Louis High School. He and his wife, Kali, have three children: daughter Jordyn and sons Kolten and Kruz. Gesser will recruit the states of Hawai’i, Oregon and Washington.
Hmmmm…maybe he could come home someday to UH.
hope the link works – usually MWC stream shows content not available for your area (hawaii)
Good luck, keep playing hard and represent Hawaii.
We love you guys!
The official elevation is 7,220 feet. That’s according to the sign: “Welcome to 7,220 feet.”
A-Joe
Stephen likes to speak in third person.
I think I figured out how to speak in fourth person: “A friend of Stephen said …:
#34 for Wyoming is DE/LB Siaosi Hala’api’api who is from Hawaii, and a Kaimuki Bulldog.
http://www.gowyo.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/siaosi_halaapiapi_810859.html
SHOKO #33
I don’t recall where Jeff did his undergrad but he got his JD or Ll.B at Duke.
Does the sign mean at ground level or the top of the sign?
The blog suddenly smells like a fresh can of Optimistic Febreze was popped open. I dig this scent.
Nice for a change not to smell brain farts and negative crap. Mahalo ST.
I Mua Rainbow Warriors!!!
Interesting tidbit: Wyoming HC Dave Christiansen fired DC Chris Tormey because the defense was giving up 31 points a game. Since Tormey’s firing, the Cowboys have given up 48 in their last 2 games (Boise State and Fresno).
Portnoy went undergrad at Syracuse and law school at Duke. He will be a good regent.
GO WARRIORS!!!!!!
I remember back in 1985 Walter Murray had the longest UH reception that didn’t result in a touchdown. I think he ran out of gas at the 5 yard line or so.
Live stream on themwc dot com. Normally glitchy for the first qtr or so then comes in good. If Hawaii is blacked out for the stream, try a virtual private network service to use a mainland server. I use witopia to watch brit shows as if I’m logging in from Notting Hill. 🙂
That was pretty neat that they got another trophy together for today’s game. Go Warriors!
Tsai do us Warriors a favor and stay in Wyoming with all your biased commentary. The truth is Chow has been an utter Failure He has not improved the program. He’s driving it down the toilet.
99club:
Looks like the same technical issues plaguing the MWC website all season have reared their ugly head again. Sigh…
49. Yea, if coverage is Oceanic it will more than likely be a blackout for Hawaii residents. This season, though, I’ve noticed Wyoming home games have been always been broadcast by Root Sports that’s if a major network (CBS Sports, ESPN, ABC etc.) doesn’t pick it up. If that’s the case, I don’t think it will be a blackout.
54. Now that I think about it, I seem to recall that he went to Syracuse for undergraduate studies and went to Duke for his JD. Would explain why he’s a basketball nut since both schools are known for their basketball programs. Although, Syracuse and now Duke seem to have decent football programs.
65. Just noticed Oceanic is covering the game, so it might be a blackout.
Nice opening-drive TD.
I don’t think we’ve had that many of those this year. (Correct me if I’m wrong)
Touch Down!!
The MWC stream is light years better than the terrible 1420 stream.
CRW-
Howzit! They had the pregame on earlier, then the ‘technical difficulties’ message came on followed by the current ‘not streaming’ message.
Back up! Just in time to see the Wyoming TD. Dang.
themwc, com stream is not working; anybody got another stream???
Think its the first time I’ve seen Chow wear a skull cap.
Ha ha! Still winning. 7-6. And Robert has a ‘hot mic’ while talking about blowin’ his nose. yuck.
Eliminate bad penalties and missed tackles, then we got a chance in this game. Go Warriors!
Sounds like the head official might be from Hawaii.
First UH mistake unnecessary roughness penalty on UH kick off. Result good field position by Wyoming and a scoring drive.
Momentum back to Wyoming.
Secondary is struggling.
Well it started good… Who’s #18?
Wake up Warriors!!!
Wyoming scores again. Secondary getting torched.
Thanks guys, but the various links all route to Oceanic somehow and say not available in your region.
The MWC feed is awful. Buffering every five seconds
Ho hum. More predictable plays on offense while our defense gets torched.
Wait. That was nice!
14-13 Hawaii.
You’re not missing much with the MWC feed. It’s down right terrible. Hope the second half is better.
Good point by Robert. 27 pts in the first qtr? Pretty good game! We need to D up a bit. Give #18 some help on his side if possible.
I liked the play calling in the first quarter. Nice run pass mix.
Defense is getting smoked. Wow, too easy.
Wyoming appears to be running pick plays. Solution? Hit both guys. Just a thought.
MWC’s website is not very user friendly. Ugh!
And we’re back…
mwc feed stinks !!
The MWC feed is just as good as the ESPN1420 App!
I hate baby showers… Or at least the timing of them….
Yes it is blacked out. Mahalo Shoko for your help.
Defense needs to step up and get some stops.
Huzzah!
TD ‘Bows!
I like ST’s suggestion but I would also like to say hit all of them hard!!!
78–Shoko…the thing that I do watch carefully is DB play, and well, you are indeed correct. One basic thing that continually occurs is giving up the inside move, and by default is the post. Most basic of a cover corner, shade a foot inside, and don’t give up post. Easier to make difference up, if you got some wheels or what they called back in the day, “noticeable change of momentum”, utilizing the sideline as another defender. Much of this is fundamentals and understanding the scheme.
Good job D!!!
Hitting everybody is always a good thing. Hey, one of ’em might even have the ball.
Um, er … tackle somebody?
No kidding.
28-21 Wyoming.
TORCHED! Wow. Strange to say, but the oftenest has to carry the defense. Scary.
And Gant scores on 30-yard catch.
“…makes himself small, if that’s possible…”
TD! Goin’ to be tied up. Fun game!
Touchdown!
Whoo-hoo!
Offense delivers. Gantry TD!
Gant sorry spell check.
Then a TD by Wyoming.
Defense is just not the field.
100. Agreed. I think another thing to consider is defending an offense that is playing up tempo at altitude, makes it more difficult especially for the corners as they are probably winded after each play. Rotation helps but I’m not sure its enough at 7000 plus feet.
Okay offense … One more time 🙂
Im getting whiplash.
Come on defense
So, I keep getting a ‘crash report’ box whenever the feed drops out and it give you a text box to report from. I’ve been thanking the techs telling them I wish I could buy them a beer. Hey, it can’t hurt. 🙂
The feed is really starting to get on my nerves.
Wow.
What will it come down to?
3rd quarter?
Defensive stops?
Will of the team?
Let’s go Bows!
Law of averages on our side. Too much talent. No way we loose today or next game.
Finding new ways to lose?
Defense optional?
Whats up with the defensive front?
I’ve noticed we lose the feed whenever they go to commercial. I guess they are still mastering the art of getting it back after commercial.
Our defense is absolutely non-existant.
Shoko, plus in the cold, its hard to put in it 4th and 5th gear….so, for sure, the receivers, have the advantage.
Damn, I don’t even know what quarter it is since I lost the MW feed, and I can’t get ESPN 1420, either.
Guess they have not figured out the switch?
The constant freezes and repeats are more than just a little irritating. Maybe it is a ploy by OC to force folks to buy their original feed.
Minute something left in the first half… Wyo 35 – UH 28. Ball at Wyo 31, 1st and 10, UH ball.
Might need a new DC, maybe Mac?
That’s all I got before losing the feed again.
TD UH!!!
shoko, me too. Can’t get either mwc feednor radio feed. Wonder if it is something coming out of Laramie.
I guess we just missed an amazing play…
Now 35-35! :52 left in the half
125 KKEA audio stream has always been horrendous; must be using stone-age technology with duct tape fixes. Better link can be found at:
http://www.espnhawaii.com/page.php?page_id=1651#
Big Island radio da bestest in da westest
TD!!!! YES!!
Can’t get MW stream or 1420..
Wyo 458 total yards so far this first half!
UH has… oops… lost the feed again…
70 points in the first half at 7,220 feet? I would never have believed it! Wish I could see/hear the game!
Defensive line is “dancing” with Cowboys’ offensive line. Seems like they cannot shed their blockers.
Thank God I get automatic score text’s.
Listening to the Hilo feed nice and clear. Mahalo obachan!
Game clock did not move on the last 2 plays.
I can’t get any feed, so my next option is twitter
Mariota on ABC for half time viewing.
Bonehead penalty by our defense again.
Looks like it’ll come down to halftime adjustments…uh oh.
“… a penalty like that… after a gain like that… tack on an extra 15… all the way to the Hawai’i 20… field goal range…”
Dang, what a broadcast!
Listening on 1420 over air. Watching stats through stats.statbroadcast.com (UH Athletics link). Too bad Oceanic doesn’t offer streaming PPV this year.
I swear, if this the game the Warriors pull out a win and I missed it because of the crappy MW and ESPN feeds, I’m going to be pissed for the rest of the week.
No Good!!
35-35 at the half.
Better turn the heater up cause this is only the beginning.
WW . . .
At least you are getting something.
Here? Nada.
Great. Halftime. And now the MW feed works.
Brilliant.
This link, provided by obachan, works great for radio feed.
http://www.espnhawaii.com/page.php?page_id=1651#
I’m clicking the play button on ESPN 1420 am like a madman! Still no play…
It is who has the better of the worse defenses that will determine who wins. The offense is doing well against a bad defense. Play calling has been good.
Oh wait.. Wyo missed the FG? Good! Now for some choice halftime adjustments, and we got this, right?
They can’t handle the viewing traffic.
listen to the game here – Hilo/Kona stations – nice & clear
http://www.espnhawaii.com/page.php?page_id=1651#
So… did we just give up like 500 yards in a single half? Where’d our defense go these last few games?
Did they take 64 offensive players and leave the defensive players at home?
Need 2 defenders just to spy Smith!
Shoulda definitely taken the over..haha
Please, oh please, oh please, oh please… come out with fire, and purpose, and discipline… and wrap them up and don’t give them a single anything!!!
Let’s go, Warriorz!!!
#162 … Thanks!
Auryte!
Let’s come out and think it’s the 1st quarter! It’s all in the head!
LET’S GO BOWS!!!!!
wafan… good one! I might have to use that one at church tomorrow!
No way we loose today!
Yes, obachan, the link leads to a good audio feed. Mahalo!
Coaches will definitely need to recruit some DBs and LBs to improve depth…..and to improve defensive speed on the perimeter.
too funny, wafan. 🙂
switching to ND BYU game…supposed to be in the snow.
Please, UH, please hang in there and hang on….you can do it….you’ve taken their best shots now just hang in there and they will start backtracking in the 4th qtr. and you can do it and come out with a victory….
Here we go with our third quarter blues…
Man, thank God for Harding and his punts.
UH needs a new DC. THE D is making there QB look like a Heisman candidate.
Touch down
Touchdown!
Chee hooooo!!
TD, Chris Gant… wide open!!! We scored first in the 3rd quarter!
Great offensive battle. Hopefully, the warrior defense gets a rare defensive stop.
We lead in the third! Wow!
Let’s go, D!!!
Harding is the MVP for UH so far. He is changing field position all by himself with his lunging.
TD by Gant.
Wow! Sometimes the ball does roll the Rainbow Warriors way. Keep it rolling guys!
WE SCORED IN THE THIRD QUARTER. THIS IS DA DAY!
C’mon Defense!!!
The Hawaii Defense is awful, OMG giving up almost 500 yard by halftime is atrocious!
That was clearly a fumble. How can they confirm the call on the field?
Wyo O now going in reverse!
Still Rolling!!
I see the Mountain Waste is up to its old tricks. Being useless.
Need the defense to keep doing what it did on that last stop.
Honestly who cares how bad the defense is at this point in the game. As long as the offense scores more points than they do. A wins a win no matter how ugly it is.
scoring in the third quarter
Who says that miracles don’t happen?
Dang it! We need a stop!!!
Let’s go, D!!!
Good pass pressure up front will help the secondary.
Nevermind. Secondary is just getting pawned.
The winner of this game might be who has the last possession of the game.
Joey fumble.
Someone else has had their single season best against us. Everyone has.
Can someone update the score? I can’t get Bobby or Robert. Mahalo #streaming sucks
ESPN1420 app sucks. It always craps out. Plus the game cast on espn is extremely delayed
42-42 1:37 left in the third quarter.
The MW feed is good now.
See obachan’s link at #162 above…. it works.
One more quarter and 1st win of the year!
seems like day 1..most in here been bitching about our offense… n play calling.. seems like it is working now.. with the players seemingly better in carrying out their assignments… has always been about our offense n play calling…..that has been lacking.. when the truth of the matter is..it is the defense that “stinks”… sumone please provide..how many interceptions we have had this year.. compared to last year.. n a few prior years.. me thinks that will tell the true story…
go bows.. find a defense 2 day… IMUA
MW feed is gone 🙁
Thanks Shoko.
Yeah, it seems like USC was the D’s best game. Hopefully, they will hang in there today.
WAY BOTH ARE GOING….looks like the first one that “hiccups” will loose …
just got up, what the hell is going on? 42-42!!!
You can also follow online at cbssportsline.com. Video only, but current stats.
Touchdown Hawaii!
Point after blocked!
TD!!!
Wow! Audio is delayed a bit… just heard PAT was blocked.
Beginning to think the quality of the MW stream is affected by the number viewing the game (max overload). Hope they (Campus Insider or Oceanic) gets this fixed next season. Was working up to I mentioned its back up again then it ended.
that blocked pat will cost them the game.
Sadly, yes, based on the way both defenses have been playing.
We losing right after we scored! No kiddibg. They scored.
Unbelievable
Damn…..
and here comes the self inflicted wounds
Hawaii will win by six. Believe!
Discipline already!!!!
Nobody want tackle when cold. Explains lack of d.
Kaumeyer better fix this defensive debacle. Talk about debacle?
Georgia Southern just beat the Florida Gators at home in the swamp!
Georgia Southern 26
Florida Gators 20
Holy Moly.
need a big play on d
Can you watchers see the Wyoming player’s knee?
227
say goodbye to Muschamp, one/both of the coordinators, or everyone..haha
Ball is coming out!
Why is 1420 still so underpowered that we have to stream it instead of turning on the radio?
Come on HI, play to win!!
We need a turnover! C’mon D!
OK, I usually don’t rant but…
Can someone PLEASE tell Tomey to be quiet?!
Who’s side is he on?
Sure seems like he’s on their side
No matter who *their* is!
Grrr
At this point,
I either wanna hear about our team and players
Or nuttin’ from Tomey at all!
Grrrrrrrr
Over 1200 yards of offense and counting.
Wyoming looks like San Diego looked in OT.
owen eleven
TSAI IS A JOKE
Sounds like one of the blogs most devoted fans has reached her boiling point.
Well said, UHfan808.
And if you don’t know what I’m talking about
(You have no idea how negative you are
toward OUR team as OUR announcer)
Then just quit and go work for *the other side*!
Grrrrrr!!!
239 hon225
Why what bad thing did you do now!?
why would you not fire your dc after this season? unless you one hell of a dumb sob…or just real old.
Do we have a problem on defense? Seems like everyone can score at will running or passing.
We now gave up the most yards in a game in Hawaii history. Over 775 yards.
Coach Chow, do your team a favor and find another DC
2:54 to go… we trail by 8… 56-48…
Eight point game. Anyone know how much time is left?
235…has Tomey made any David Fales references today?
Wyoming’s most yards in their history.
Hmm, going to need a miracle just to send it into overtime.
stop going to gant
Chow needs to consider replacing Kaumeyer and hire another Defensive Coordinator, seriously! This defense isn’t stopping jack crap this season. A new Offense Coordinator and Defensive Coordinator is needed badly. The opposing teams have figured out Kaumeyers defensive weakness already, its time for a new DC. We can’t blame the offense because it scored a ton of points.
75 yards to go to… and then need a 2-point PAT.
Finally a 3rd down conversion…
2:11 to go
Latest rumor. MWC teams given the order to keep games interesting and don’t blow UH away. Make it look like they are improving. Thus UH will keep Chow for another year and give the MWC teams another good chance of winning against UH next year. Nah only joking.
C’mon! Navy showed us how to do it yesterday!!!!
1st and 10 at the Wyo 46…
and then sacked at the 48.
Td!!!!!!!!!!
i know sumone on here can get stats..on our dc..from whence he came.. be interesting reading..
Iosefa… 1st down… 1:35 to go
hello ms miracle!
TD Gant!~
our “hiccup…blocked point.. match..game…point..hu hu hu
Yes, miracles do happen. Just need to convert the two-point!
Need the two…
Whoooo huuuuu!!!!
Cheeeeee!!!!!!
timeout, Wyo…
Probably lose in overtime, though. Hah!
haha…told you go to gant!
Guess the play…
Regardless of how this game ends, it was entertaining.
It’s good! Tie game!
BELIEVE!
Can we get some defense NOW???
BEAT ARMY!
Well, what do you know?
56-56, one minute left.
Play clock off again just like the ending of the 1st half.
GO WARRIORS!!!!!
WE’RE CHEERING FOR YA!!!!!
of course the game in the last minute is left up to the defense…
The clock froze.
Maybe this will be the one they will win.
Make a stop!!!!!!
If you had the under 112, you lost.
250 FUHA
No, but there seems to be a David Fales sumting sumting for him in every game lol
🙁
3rd and 12, Wyo… :47 to go.
4th down, 3 to go…
This is the game!!!
284
Eh, that’s a start!
Wind at our backs for a FG…
:11 to go… and we took our last timeout? Should have run a play or spike the ball.
Darn. They should have spiked it.
stupid clock mgt as usual for chow
I think Chow made a critical mistake in the last few seconds of regulation.
Someone at UH needs to develop a class in clock management.
OT.
Again.
OT. 56-56.
We on the verge of a win. Keep it positive.
Imagine the people freezing in the stands. “Oh, great. Overtime.”
Over Time… can we even our OT record this year?
Need some defense!!!
297 the name of the course is How to Tender Your Resignation 101
The coin must be stuck to the ref’s glove.
301
Lol
More iosefa
Cover the ball, though
Need a TD!
25 degrees not including wind chill.
308.
and a good extra point more importantly
Nice call, Huh?.
I can’t imagine trying to tackle Joey in this cold. Ouch.
Okay, Joey take care da ball.
Dang.
#261 SAJ
kaumeyer facts:
dc at hawaii in 12 with a record of 3-9.
asst db coach for jacksonville jaguars in 08-11. their records 5-11, 7-9, 8-8, 5-11.
dc at san diego state 02-06 their records 4-9, 6-6, 4-7, 5-7, 3-9.
dc at tulane in 07 record 4-8.
you see the pattern. theirs only one thing that remains constant. and that is losing.
the buggah bad luck or shitty coach, you make the call.
@#$%#$!!
Dang.
live by the run….
Wow!…
It’s over damn good try though.
a play action pass would have been nice….
Again, the fans freezing in the stands. “Oh, time out in OT. Great.”
come on D
Gosh darn it.
Yup, a brand new way to lose. All runs up the middle in ot.
Might be more accurate to look at the defensive stats of the teams TK has been the DC.
Good try Bows……
C’mon D!

If Norm Chow is not fired after this season, Ben Jay and upper campus are just as stupid as Chows ay calling
The D gave up over 700+ yards. YIKES!!!!! Need a new DC coach ASAP.
Hope TK is not scheduled to speak at the Nakoa Luncheon next week. Boosters got to be wondering what happened.
I liked going for it on 4th down.
Fire our DC before the final home game. Gotten worse and worse with each game this season.
Good effort Rainbow Warriors!!!
1more game at home! We’ll get it done!!!
FIRE CHOW NOW! FIRE CHOW NOW!!
Thanks for the great effort Warriors! Go get warm.
Good night, Tsaikos, have a happy Thanksgiving.
D gave up 786 yards in regulation? Crazy!
Good game on offense. Defense was terrible. I don’t fault the call in O/T. The way the defense played I believe that was the right call. If Sean had the read option he would have walked in. But that’s not his forte.
Good game get’um next time
Darn!!
Feelin’ like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day…….again……every Saturday!
#332 Sean
what are the 2 games? got army next week.
they goin blow up army big time.
Unbelievable. Simply unbelievable……
I’m proud of the boyz for continuing to fight. Gotta be disheartening to be oh, so close so many times this season. Gotta stop being nice and get rid of our DC. Should have done that half season ago.
Drats
See should have left the “rainbow” out of the nickname and just left the name as Warriors. I bet if they were just Warriors all those close games would have been W’s. hahahahaha
Why call a timeout when you just made a 1st down and the clock was stopped anyway?! Then in OT it’s Iosefa Iosefa Iosefa . Very imaginative.

chow its time to do the right thing…say aloha to kaumeyer.
2nd or 3rd down in OT woulda been perfect for a play action pass.
Every play up the middle in overtime???
Imua Rainbow Warriors!!!
I liked the 4th down try. Play to win.
Oh well, good game.
#357 & 358
um, its called stoopididdytee
One more loss and Chow will have a perfect season. 🙂
Time to get ready for D1 title game. Millz4Life!
wow! and some fans will give him a pass on that call. oh, but hawaii played so well. we lost. 0-11. chow showed incompetence again.
i cant wait to laugh at all of you chow lovers if Hawaii keeps him another year. HE DOESNT WANT TO BE HERE. HE IS TO OLD per norm chow. he wont quit, and uh wont fire him.
Dang! I have to catch up. At hula class all day. We lost in OT? Dang!
Oregon getting beat up by Arizona.
Tsaigh…
Hindsight: We were this close to first and goal… and yet we predictably don’t even try to draw the defense offsides. They just jumped the snap and tripped up Iosefa while still in the backfield.
I do agree that we had to go for it on 4th, but… be a bit more creative, and not so vanilla! Dang it!
And that’s why chow needs to e fired! He doesn’t learn from past mistakes. Be creative don’t just ride Joey in OT your QB just threw for 500 yds and 6tds.
We need a dominant linebacker
been saying for a while…too many lolos complaining we lose because of chow’s offense, not so. more then chow’s offense we losing because of TK’s defense.
If chow is gonna make it past year 3, he needs to do a mack brown and fire the DC.
great effort
When I watch this defense I have to ask myself why is Vele being wasted on offense?
I love how all the coaches looked at Chow after the failure in OT. No mouths moved, one by one they just gave him a look
Like I said, we started the season pretty good on D against those PAC-24 teams. We’ve gone backwards with each passing week… on D. Don’t get me wrong… they are trying. They’ve had bright spots and have made some unbelievable plays (once in a while). But they’ve given up more and more big plays, or missing tackles with greater regularity as the season progressed.
Don’t care that we have only one game left… Kaumeyer should be gone. Period.
Sad…Good effort by the team, but absolutely bad play calling. I would have kicked the field and force Wyoming to score a TD in OT…However, running it into the line 3 times just don’t make sense. Also, in short yardage and you plan on running, its better to be under center, as you have the option to sneak for the yard…Oh well…
its 4th and 1, i like the play, stick with joey…they just didn’t get it done that’s all. credit wyo D for stepping it up when they had to…something TK has never really done in 2 years
fans here so “akamai” sometimes…if SS throws a pass and incomplete, then they will say “oh, why chow neva run joey, was only 1 yard”
or “why chow neva try the field goal” maybe no FG attempt cos the D has shown it cannot stop anything. i mean what, then wyo comes back and scores a TD…and then people will say “why chow neva go for it on 4th down to get the TD, was only 1 yard joey can pound out 1 yard”
if chow sucks as a coach, then hawaii people suck even more as fans-generally speaking
373- agree- he should be at LB
Where do you think SS will go in the draft?
“Goose-egg” Chow
Just plain and simple Hawaii got out coach again, by the other team. Chow get real you beat your own self again. Thinking what happen in OT last game, you would do it here. Well run and we get a “L”. Chow just keep taking us and your team down the hole. The whole time (at the end) I’m thinking, how are you going to blow it again. And you gave me the answer. Guess who it is???????
hehe wyo scores at will, there is no “forcing” wyo to score a TD. but i get what you mean.
whatever the play calling was prior, when it’s 4th and 1 you go with joey…they just didnt get it done, simple, and wyo stepped up, simple
Mahalo to the players. You guys played your hearts out. I’m so sorry you will have a long, sad plane flight home.
Coaches, if you have forgotten clock management, you owe it to all of us — but ESPECIALLY the players — to read up, quick. When this game got to where it was with under 5 minutes remaining, I was afraid it would be same-old same-old, like the end of the first half, like the end of last week’s regulation, like so many other times, and it was.
There is no moral victory today. Those players worked hard enough to have decent time management to have a shot at a win. While there are aspects of the game the players could have improved on, bottom line, as the time was ticking away, they didn’t lose the game, the choices made by the folks on the sideline did.
And this time, I hope we here something substantive about a REPAIR to this problem in the next day or so. Better would be right now, during the postgame interviews.
No sugarcoating, it is time for a new head coach!!!
thanks “go bows” for that.. seems like he never had a winning season as a dc coach..wow..(hire larry price) now wonder if we can find stats for defensive interceptions for this season compared to previous…
Mikaela is your niece. Cannot wait to tell Michael and Sandra.
UH is not going to win
he he he.. maybe we should “swap” dc with wyoming.. at least we would win huh…
Next week try again.
I don’t see how anyone can have any faith in Chow after this game. Players played hard, gave it their all, and the coaches blew it again for them.
There is no sugarcoating or spin that can make 0-11 any better.
Chow is a disaster. Will Hawaii reward incompetence and give the new Von Appen another year to destroy the program, or will they do something?
The boys played there hearts out and scored a ton of points on offense, Chow needs to work on his clock management, It reminded me of how McMackin use to mismanage the clock in his 4th year as Hawaii Head Coach. Now Kaumeyer needs to figure out a way to improve his defense scheme or adjust his scheme for the young players on the field or he should be replaced. To many games this season Kaumeyer defense is giving up to much points, yardage and big plays. How many games has Kaumeyers defense given up 500+ yards?
If UH truly cared about the football program they would pay up and buy out Chow. Keeping him another year will just delay the inevitable and put UH in an even bigger hole financially.
377 “if chow sucks as a coach” borders on being a rhetorical question
You would think they would win 1 in-conference game. Look at the first three games of next year. They better win next week or there could be a potential to go 0-15.
Cardinal rule of football, always take the points.
We should have taken the field goal, then the defense has a chance to win it by stopping them and forcing a long field goal or getting a turnover.
Chow put the poor defense into a tough situation. All Wyoming had to do was kick a FG.
May be Chow is trying to get fired. He would have a nice retirement nest egg from the state. May be he is smarter than we think. He came home to retire.
This the right blog?…Warrior Beat or Beat the Warriors?….I’m lost……
#379 ~ Home.
CHOW = Can`t Hold On & Win
Losers!!!!
Re. 396 – no one is beating the warriors just the coaching staff that has to go!!
NSF ~ The voices of reason are smaller in number and now some post on another venue. That’s why you don’t see as many faniliar names on board anymore. I just dropped by to check, and was not surprised at the comments by the usual malcontents after UH games. I’m glad that I’m busy on that project you helped me with last week. At least there’s a strong possibility of a win to look forward to with the defense you suggested I use.
Sorry for being clueless and just chiming in… does anyone know what happened to Billy Ray Stutzman? Didn’t see him on the field today.
The terrific heart of the Rainbow Warrior players is without doubt, as is the correspondence with some past seasons. Like the commercial says … “cost of coach who burns your last timeout on first down, $550K … cost for bad play calling when it absolutely matters, $550K … 2013 season after 11 games, … win less”

Putting up a million points against a defense made up of reserves when your record is 0 -11, is of little consolation when you just lost to the worst team on your schedule as of now. Excuse my malcontent.
Well, that looked nothing like what I intended 🙂
#404,
Apparently BRS got dinged up early in the game.
406.
You are guilty of expressing your malcontent. 🙂
#373 & #378,
The reason is……that Coach asked JV to move from D to O.
angry, mad and frustrated so going say nothing grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
anyone interested in vball tickets for tonight just let me know, I will check this blog up untill 6
402 – A spread option play would be good play for that 4th and one. Gives the QB a chance to take what the D gives him. Unfortunately Chowder doesn’t give him that flexibility. Its Chows way or the highway. Chow believes overtime is running time and its gotten us 2 ot losses. Can’t teach an old dog a new trick.
#402 you saw that too eh, happening all game
If being upset at the coach of an 0-11 team is wrong, I’d hate to see what right is like.
.
basic football 101
The problem is not so much play calling. Its the lack of a defense. A team scores that many points and has to play in overtime? That’s more the issue than what play was or was not called.
The issue here really comes down to the defensive issues. Head coach has to evaluate that piece.
Offense played well enough to win. We just could not stop the other team. I’d join the chorus regarding play calling if we simply got smoked, but that was not the case.
413
Exactly. Chow wants his QB to be a game manager not a playmaker who can create things as they are happening on the field.
I would say poor defense put the team in that situation, while better play calling could have won the game.
The outcome of this game will not get Chow any closer to being terminated. That much I know.
Do we need a new DC ?
#416,
Shows that Coach has absolutely no confidence in the D……to hold Cowboys to anything but a TD.
Desperate measures called by a desperate Coach.
Could it be we need a DC that can defend
the offenses that run the read option.
Stanford’s DC seems real good at it.
As for our offense hindsight is easy
but I saw some pretty dam good plays.
I think Chow is just beginning to learn how to win close games. When you think about it, he’s never been in that position as a head coach to win those close games. Last year’s victories were blowouts from the beginning.
koakane: Tickets still available?
I think it will be Chow next year with an ultimatum to get to a bowl or take a hike.
#423,
Obviously hasn’t learned yet…..on how to win close games……just how to lose em.
I think my arms are bigger than Irvine’s Mamadou’s legs. He has a Manut Bol type physique.

“We need a dominant linebacker”
We need a Linebacker Coach. The guy who’s there never coached nor played LB.
Rocky Seto? Worth a shot. He seems to be stuck as a defensive assistant (an assistant to a regular position coach) with the Seahawks. Don’t think Seto is earning what Kaumeyer makes.
3prong yes
If the play call to go for it on 4th down in OT instead of taking 3 points doesn’t get Chow fired, I don’t know what will. YOU TAKE THE POINTS IN OT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Koakane: How can I get them?
We need a lot of coaches it seems.
LOUD NOISES!!!!!!!!!
Kekoa where has the many gone?
Chow much good man. Much bad luck. Now, uh, much bad luck. Need new luck.
So sorry. Norm much tire. He no take energy drink. Hard time think. He need nap now. He talk you tomorrow. Please excuse norm now. He take tiger penis pill. Feel much better tomorrow. Give statement then.
HAAAAAAAAY gang! It’s me! Gay Norm Chow! I just want to let you know that i’m SOOOO sorry about this loss and this season. But on the flip side, I can finally get married now! LOL!
3 prong what is a way to get in touch with u
I am heading to UH SSC now. Have 3 tics if you want it
Why didn’t we get the fumble call?
Baylor spread not too good today. Looking like first loss of the season for da Bears.
443. Wow….disappointed I get…..bigotry I don’t
Koakane: #753-4063
Intoface: Refs probably thought elbow hit before ball came out.
funny kine stuff come out after a loss… key-1 sound just like fire chow now.
Trying to think of that zone-read play where Schroeder pulled the ball and ran for no gain. Think it was against Fresno State.
What round do you thing SS will be drafted in. Helluva performance today and last couple of weeks.
Schroeder will no doubt be picked number one overall. His skill set and intangibles are unlimited making NFL scouts salivate at the possibilities. He’s the next Peyton Manning.

kaiser is state champs. way to go miano!
wasn’t miano on the last kaiser team to win a championship…
What makes me scared is that these close games against terrible teams will sway decision makers to give chow a third year. Don’t wait I’ll the army game. Fire him tomorrow.
That’s seems to be what BJ is trying to convey to the mass of Warrior fans.
IF Boise State loses against San Diego, Utah State gets that much closer to securing the Mountain Division, barring a loss to Wyoming, and a shot at the Championship game with Fresno State.
Mahalo koakane,
Good seats! Let’s Go Bows!
If BJ keeps Chow I’ll have to go to the benjo.
Why does Chow look happy with a smile when we lose these close games?
I can only speculate on why he smiles in the face of a close game that ended in a loss like the UNLV and San Diego games. I think its a defense mechanism to mask embarrassment, disappointment or failure.
The US Army and 2014 await …
Hawaii vs. USC: 13-30 loss; 2012 10-49 loss
Hawaii vs. Oregon St: 14-33 loss; 2012 NA
Hawaii vs. Nevada: 9-31 loss; 2012 24-69 loss
Hawaii vs. Fresno State: 37-42 loss; 2012 10-45 loss
Hawaii vs. San Jose State: 27-37 loss; 2012 NA
Hawaii vs. UNLV: 37-39 loss; 2012 48-10 win
Hawaii vs. Colorado State: 28-35 loss; 2012 27-42 loss
Hawaii vs. Utah State: 10-47 loss; 2012 NA
Hawaii vs. Navy: 28-42 loss; 2012 NA
Hawaii vs. San Diego State: 21-28 Loss; 2012 14-52 loss
Hawaii vs. Wyoming: 56-59 loss; 2012 NA
Hawaii vs. Army: TBD (BYE; 21-17 loss to W. Kentucky; 3 and 7 so far); 2012 NA
Hawaii vs. Washington: 8/30/2014
Hawaii vs. Oregon State: 9/6/2014
Hawaii vs. Northern Iowa: 9/13/2014
Hawaii vs. Colorado: 9/20/2014
To clarify, a defense mechanism to mask or hide the embarrassment or disappointment brought on by failure. Didn’t want to imply that Chow is a failure, although there are folks would disagree.
manny wins unanimous
more fans showed up to the punahou/mililani game than a UH game. FIRE CHOW NOW FIRE CHOW NOW!
Wasn’t Manny making some huge donation to the typhoon relief fund? Seem to recall hearing that.
He’s shut down the blog quite a few times already! Pretty much says how a lot of people feel about Chow! He sucks. He seriously needs to be fired! If anybody else thinks otherwise then they’re just full on corny unrealistic fans!
everybody, say it with me! FIRE CHOW NOW! FIRE CHOW NOW!
And it also means the do not want the best for the team. BE REALISTIC!!
FIRE CHOW NOW! FIRE CHOW NOW! FIRE CHOW NOW!
The next home game, we should all wear paper bags over our heads and go to the stadium. FIRE CHOW NOW! FIRE CHOW NOW!
San Diego using the huge fullback, Chad Young, that posed a problem for the Warriors last weekend.
I think Rocky Long’s overtime record since he succeeded Brady Hoke in 2011 is 3-1. Safe to say he knows how to win when the games on the line.
That’s like saying Jacksonville has a chance against Alabama.
Boise State missed the FG for the win and sends it into overtime. Wow, talk about another Brotzman.
San Diego State wins. Rocky Long is now 4-1 in overtime.
Just remember there’s more to life than football.
Have a good night, folks!
The sad thing is that despite the defense giving up all those points we still could have won the game
Ben Jay sighting at volleyball game. That bugga is one iron man.
A great game Wahines!
MAHALO for your presences, hard work, strong character and ALOHA for our Wahine Volleyball program. You will be missed but not forgotten.
All seven of your have been integral parts in our strive for excellence!
IMUA WAHINES!
An interesting couple of paragraphs …
“Sean Schroeder led Hawaii, passing for a career-high six TDs and 499 yards. His 33-yard TD pass and subsequent 2-point conversion toss to Chris Gant, who tied a school record with four TD receptions, with 1:18 left in regulation, forced the game into overtime at 56-56.
In overtime, Hawaii got the ball first at the Cowboys 25 yard line and drove down to the Wyoming 4 yard line on four straight runs by Joey Iosefa. However, the Cowboys defense stuffed Iosefa on third and 1 and linebacker Devyn Harris dropped him for a 1-yard loss on fourth down, meaning Wyoming’s offense only needed a field goal to win the game.”

Nothing so out of the ordinary. Just the facts.
On the other hand, what makes anyone so sure their play calling would have yielded different results?
Just got back from the UH volleyball game. And least I got to watch one UH coach who knows what he’s doing today.
Larry Tuileta is available to play for Hawaii next week against Army. He should start!,!!!!!
Poor coaching today. There was no defense. Play calling in OT was atrocious. They run Iosefa 3 straight times up the middle and they don’t pick up the first down much less the TD. Everybody knows Iosefa was going to get the ball. They can’t even run a misdirection play or a toss sweep by St. Juste. It sickens me to no end. The players deserve better.
This team does not know how to win games when it’s in crunch time. I blame the coaching.
484… You would think Peterson would spend time finding a decent kicker by now… The kickers have cost BSU two BCS bowl bids and now a conference division title in the past few years.
UH fans should ask for Peterson to be fired because those botched FGs have cost UH a couple million in missed BCS bowl revenue share.
I didn’t realize that Punahou had sooooo many Polynesians on their team. Congraatss to them and Kaiser.
Congrats.*
The Punahou Polys are huge too.
Never got 500. Is tonight the night?
I guess so. 500.
Derek… I’m not going to nit pick OT play calling when the offense puts up 56 in regulation. When you score 56, you should be winning by at least a few TDs.
Besides, if the OLine can’t give Iosefa 1 yard on two tries, you don’t deserve to win. Sheesh, if the OLine gets zero push and just hold their ground and give Iosefa a clean run to the line of scrimmage, he’s going to get 2-3 yards on his own.
This loss is solely on Kaumeyer and his defense. 700+ yards given up is embarrassing. I don’t care if the weather was freezing, that might only cost a warm weather team 6 or 7 points in the long run at most.
Statistically, the offense has made a big improvement vs last year. It’s the defense that’s cost UH most of their losses this year. It has been penalties to extend drives, botched assignments in coverage, giving up a ton of 3rd down conversions, and consistent 3rd quarter meltdowns by the defense that has hurt the team the most.
Chow doesn’t coach the defense, but he needs to shake up the defensive staff this offseason. If Chow won’t fire TK, Ben Jay needs to step in and do it. I’d be in favor of TK getting canned this week. Maybe the defense will boost their play with a fresh voice calling the shots for senior night.
I give a ton of credit to the offensive players for playing their guts out. Honestly, this team has a ton of character. They could have rolled over and quit (which would make the trolls happy), but they are true Warriors and are playing very hard.
drop D1 football already so all the crybabies can move on.
when you score 56 points and cant win before looking at chow my eyes would 100% be on TK as first to go.
chow and the offense are close, people with any knowledge and vision and football i.q. can see that. however the defense is not close, nowhere near where it needs to be. when the d cant hold or no confidence in the d, yeah as a head coach your decision making will not be that simple anymore, as if it ever was anyway.
even a zero-brained zombie is smart enough to know you can’t fire chow in part because the offensive coordinator is not doing a bad job, and that OC is chow. but TK, he’s making himself very expendable come next season when it will be bowl game or bust. if you score 56 points and did not win, it’s the D that lost the game, not the O. sorry, TK needs to be released and a new DC installed next year. for those that think play calling is vanilla, with this group of players in the system come next year i think we will all see a new brand of football where chow can really exploit things.
chow absolutely will get a third year, with the talent he has gotten and gotten them to play. he bit the bullet with growing pains and sorry numbnuts, but again anyone with any sort of football i.q. knows a head coach needs at least 3 years to be judged.
i am sooooooooo loving this crybaby convention on this blog. i dont know whats better, a win or seeing all the crybabies
FUHA…..exactly!!!!!
amen
So…we should get rid of the Defensive coordinator O-line coach, D-line coach, Lb coach, DB coach and…..
Just remember, we are now complaining over tight losses…. Last year, UH was blown out every game.
The margin of defeat is way smaller this year vs 2012. 5 games within a TD. 7 games UH was tied, ahead, or within one score of opponent at halftime.
0-11 sucks, but this isn’t close to as bad as the 1998 team. The 1998 team’s avg margin of defeat was 23 points, and only averaged 12.4 ppg and was shutout twice. The 1998 team did not have a single loss within a TD. Statistically, the 2012 season was much more comparable to 1998.
As mentioned many times before post-halftime adjustments have been awful. Just seems like the coaches can’t anticipate how the other team will adjust. In most games I’ve seen, the defense plays pretty well in the majority of the first halves. TK’s inability to counter the other team’s halftime adjustments is what sinks the winnable games entering halftime.
Also, 6 losses have come when UH scored over 27 points. When an offense scores 27-35, your defense needs to win you a game or two or three. Score over 35, you should be winning those games 90% of the time.
Defensive schemes are one thing, if players aren’t able to shed blockers, cover receivers, plug gaps, execute assignments then it must fall on the assistant coaches who do the coaching yeah?
So the DC isn’t responsible for prepping the players for the game? I thought Chow’s claim to fame was developing young quarterbacks into Heisman winners while serving as OC?
