Washington 40, UH 32
SEATTLE — Tough loss for the Warriors, who fell behind 21-0, rallied, but eventually lost to Washington, 40-32.
After the game:
• The coaches said they would address the protection problems on PAT attempts. Two were blocked, with one returned all the way for a two-point play that changed the final-minute strategy.
• Right tackle Sean Shigematsu might return to Honolulu for an MRI on his injured knee. Levi Legay is the immediate backup, although there are thoughts about sending Jordan Loeffler over to the right side.
• Miah Ostrowski was on crutches because of a foot injury. The doctors will wait a couple of days for the swelling to subside before determining his availability. His backups are Corey Paclebar and Terence Bell.
• The Warriors are set to leave this evening for Las Vegas, where they will spend the next week in preparation for next Saturday’s game against UNLV.
Game Day Go Warriors beat them Huskies!
Dont give Washington any satisfaction.
Warriors gonna take this one
I wanna see Harding or Edwards return one for a TD.

I am glad that your cousin liked the pan lau lau. I wish I could have had some too…
Looks like no video here. Even Washington is only streaming audio. Maybe I’ll replay the CO game for color while I listen to Bobby. Its great to finally get the Warriors in a High Def game stored.

I am confident our Warriors will overcome!!
Go Warriors!!
Defense better figure it out… SOON
Gee. UH already in a 14-0 hole and the first quarter is only half-way through.
Gave the Warrior D to much credit, at this rate UDUB will score 60+ points.
This is either going to be a long game or an exciting comeback … got more then 3 quarters to go…
Yikes, 174 yards of offense
Quick flicks by UW quarterback… over 9 yards a play…
Hope that it will be an exciting comeback…
Let’s go Warriors! *clap clap clap-clap-clap*!!
Exciting comeback, exciting comeback!!

Not going good right now. As an aside, ex UH qb Steel Jantz will be playing for Iowa State. Here is a link on his journey. Good luck to Steele.

Steel Jantz (Iowa State) won a nail biter over Iowa in triple overtime…
Wow. Really?
Yikes.. Hawaii down three TDs… in the first Qtr.
Let’s go Warriors!
Looks like Coach Mac will need all 6 timeouts to talk to team.
Wait, this team (albeit slightly different personnel and venue) has taken a 21-point lead on us before. Let’s go guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We better hope we got that “Colt & the Dreadheads” magic we needed in the ’07 comeback against UW…
WTF
Moniz will have to do a Colt on the Huskies to win this..
Let’s go WARRIORS!
At this rate UDUB will score 84 points. Dem Dawgs are feisting on those Warriors.
Nice run back!
Edwards!
CMON WARRIORS! right now, it’s Wash 21-0

Wow… Mike Edwards… Better than Advertised….
Laura, Dale Carnegie wrote a book which may worthwhile for you to read, “How to Make Friends and Influence People.”
Kearse is Jerry Rice
Not even end of the first quarter but UDUB has already scored more points than many of us had predicted for the game. UH has to turn the momentum around.
Warriors must be mesmerized by Washington Lake, wait till they get to all those Bright Light in Vegas.
#147 Kepola:
super thanks again for your link info.
Now can watch Moniz magic.
Let’s go guys!
MIH – Thanks for the link! Of course the score was 21-0 when I was able to see the stream. Now I can watch when Hawaii comes back. Go Warriors!
HUGE 3rd down play…got to convert when getting into the red zone, especially when trying to catch up. Whether or not UH scores a TD, Mike Edwards provided a great spark and I hope that helps get the team going.
where’s Tyron Willingham when you need him..
Bright’s gotta hold onto the ball.
Good lord……There not even using lube on us.
Midnight – that’s the idea. I texted my friends who are there to stop yelling and save their voices for the comeback! 🙂
Think incredible!! Be incredible!!
Geez, thats Edwards second knockdown…
I hope we packed an extra pair of DEFENSE for this trip.
Let’s go, Warriors!!!
Game still ON ; Think CAN DO!
Waste your energy toward that! 😉
Good tackle by Aaron Brown. Come on Warrior Offense.
Sterling Jackson 9 yards!
I like Sterling Jackson. We have a great 1-2 punch – use em!
Finally a Warrior Defensive stop… let’s get a score !!
Like Leonard Peters used to say…“We got ’em right where we want ’em!”
Jackson running well. Need to score here.
Hope they packed Offense too.
Nice catch Royce.
Good job BRS. 1st and goal.
The louder the crowd the bigger the respect!
Oh yeah, it’s loud ova dea!
Hehe 😉
Come on offense. Put it in there.
Fight fight fight!!
Touchdown!!!
YES! We needed that TD!
TD!
YES!!!!…. come back time!
Defense got some rest time, too!!
Let’s go WARRIORS DEFENSE!!!!
Whoohoo for the big TD!!
Way to go, Warriors!!
Alright now defense. Time to get the ball back.
Lots of time.
Sterling Silver lining in the storm clouds…
Piroshky for Jackson! Great change up, we needed that.
Hawaii’s able to move it. Just got to cut down on the mistakes.
Dayuhm… what a run.. he knocked off our tacklers like they were flies.. C’mon Defense…
Dick Tomey is not going to be happy about that return.
Nice play by Hopkins!
Come on big D!!!
Defense!!!! Nice play!! SACK!
Big Mack Smash!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for your 171, PP!
Let’s go Warriors! *clap clap clap-clap-clap*!!
Nice sure tackle Mike Edwards. Going for it on 4th down.
We need a stop!!
DANG!
How can you drop 7 guys back and give up 15 yards on a pass….WTH!
Richard Torres for governor!
WOWOWOWO!!!!!!!!
CHEE HOO!!!
INT!!!!! for a TD baby!!!
Sweet pick-6!!!
Go, Torres!!!
Pick 6 …. Torres … hooooooo hooooooo !!!
Pick 6!!!!!!!!!!!
TORRES!!!!!! Whoohoooo Kahuku!!!
Yeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WHOO!
One score game. Here we go Warriors.
I said Yeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
99 Int for 19
Great block by Aaron Brown to open up Richard Torres.
Talk about a game changer. Need to keep it up.
Whooohoooooo what a R-U-N, Torres!!
Game changing play by Richard Torres…wow!
@245… Absolutely…
Piroshky Piroshky!
Ok settle down and push ’em back!
So UH gets the ball to start the second half, right?
Torres run tied record from 1969 per BC 1420
Aguilar is their go-to guy. We gotta stop that!
Most definitely 249!
Way to go Brown!
Come on defense. We gotta stop em.
Aguilar is killing us.
Dang it!
Damn….
One second later would’ve been a sack…
arghh.. Aguilar…..
Okay Warriors Answer back.. lots of game left!
no tank you
I’m just gonna throw this out there but… Our tackling HAS TO IMPROVE…
yikes, would have been better to not take the timeouts
I hate refs and now I am reminded why I hate most mainland announcers.
Lol
Grrrrrrr
defense needs time to regroup
replace Hopkins he is crappy
No more gas in the Tank
They’re taking advantage of Tank cuz the rest of our secondary is great…
who would be better than tank?
As Ferd says: could have been worse, could have been better
Ooh door prize time at Ige’s 🙂
Got to have the D to stop them. Offense moving the ball well.
In other WAC games so far:
Nevada trails Oregon 34-7 with under 2 minutes in the first half.
NMSU leading against Minnesota 21-7 heading into the half.
Quick—give Tsai a helmet and put HIM into the game!
We win!
This game is closer than what the score is. Offense got to come out and put 7 right off the gecko.
Anyhow, am proud of the TEAM.
Go UH Warriors.
it is what it is. Tank has limitations but if his back-up is not better, you go with the best you have
Down 14 points at the half, but we still have a chance– need some Washington errors and turnovers, a few breaks to let us close the gap, or its over. Hope Price is not as hot in the second half and looks more like he did against EWU.
also last week the touchdowns he gave up where on blitzs in man coverage with no safety help….
2 possessions down… D has to tighten up if we’re going to come back. D-line has to figure out how to get more pressure – that’ll help shut down the TEs and assist the secondary.
just a touch match up vs Fuskie Wr’s – I dont think we’ve even seen Kasen Williams yet.. Price’s tight spirals down field is impressive. We can adjust!
Ipu…well said. At least we got the ball first to open the 2nd half.
BELIEVE!!!
2 Coaching things.
Field goal would have been better.
What’s up with the TO when UW was trying to run the clock out.
IMO off course.
Where are you at PP?
IWWTHM–
You’re down 21-0 midway in the 1st. You got to go for it.
With the momentum on our side and only down 7, Hawaii had to try to get the ball back and tie it up.
If U-Dub had gotten a TD instead of Richard Torres getting the INT/TD, this game would be completely different right now. Great example of a senior leader stepping up for his team.
UH had a lot of other chances…fumble and a turnover on downs in the red zone could have easily been 2 TDs for UH instead. So, there were big plays on both sides.
Turnovers will make the difference in the second half. UH’s D has to get more of them and get off the field. The D was probably a little tired on U-Dub’s last drive since they U-Dub basically had 2 straight possessions.
Sitting in my office – so sad, yeah? At least it’s in beautiful Waikiki. 🙂 Did you get my e-mail from yesterday? Soooo grateful to you and Ms. Anne.
I have no problems with the play calling so far.
Any other NYers out there?
Is it just me or is Bright not nearly as good as the hype…
Remember 2007… Our boys can do this…
I agree, going for the TD was the right call. If UH converted there, that would have meant far more than a FG. The way that U-Dub is moving the ball, UH cannot come back by getting 3 points at a time…need to convert in the red zone.
WarriorNY, forgot to tell you that I look forward to seeing video from the Jets’ game – and the 9/11 remembrance ceremony tomorrow.
Nope neva gettum neva go work
Here we go
PowderPuff,
Its gonna be an awesome scene… Just to have 50k NY-ers together for the anniversary of 9-11. It’s gonna be a scene.

Come on Warrior O! Need a TD right now.
Yea baby!

That TD drive ate up a good chunk of clock – which can work for or against us depending on how things go throughout this half.

Now … offense gotta step up … gotta convert … believe!!!
blitzzzz that damn qb guys…he’s got too much time to consider what to do!!!!
Uh oh 356! 🙁
No good.
Ok … D gotta step up now …
Thank goodness for Dem Dawgs, Bright is no Silas.
The quick passing game is the problem
Come on D. Counting on you again.
Still within one score. D just needs to get the ball back.
for hawaii’s D
Anyone else notice that we outscored them 26-3 in the past few quarters?!?!?!?
Did you notice, First play of forth quarter, Moniz throws the ball away. The time keept running after the incompletion.
we need a piroshky turnover on D
No moral victories! We can win this game!!
What a dumb foui on Brown…
I’m sayin’ play George Llyles Dailey… He was a playmaker last week…
decision making is not browns suit
brown stupid
C’mon, D… Strip that ball!!!
Come on D. This is your time right now.
Throw on the chains!
Let’s go, D!!!
Let’s go D!!
DEFENSE!!! DEFENSE!!! DEFENSE!!!
No defense for that.
Tightends…again………..Didnt see that one coming….
Hoo boy… game just got harder…
C’mon Warriors… 2 minute offense.. let’s get the momentum back and put the Huskies on their heels…
WOOF! WOOF! WOOF! Warrior D way over rated!!! Go be some slumped shoulders and sad eyes leaving Husker Stadium!!! ARF! ARF! ARF! (Wagging Tail)
Defense! *clap-clap*!!
Defense! *clap-clap*!!
10 minutes… we need a score and a stop.
We can still win this one. Come on Offense.
Go Mo!!
I really don’t get this… Washington cannot stop our offense… yet we’re losing.. wtf?
2 td’s down… Not impossible but defense us gonna HAVE TO stop getting run all over…
Laura, go comment on your own blog… Only moronic fans would say “woof, woof, woof”
No one said this would be easy
Keep going Warriors!!
That TE was a commit to Texas, one of the rare times that Texas went out of state for a recruit last year. However, he was considered the top TE recruit in the country so the Texas coaches went after him hard and earned the commit…until late in the recruiting process when Sark did a great job of selling him on staying close to home and getting early playing time.
The U-Dub coaches and players have been raving about him all offseason, he was reportedly a true stud even as a freshman. Unfortunately for UH, he’s showing that he isn’t just hype today.
Getting the #1 TE recruit in the country last season sure is paying off for U-Dub…and he’s only going to get better over as he gets more experience.
However, UH can still win this game. The offense can move the ball and the D just needs 1 stop.
This is what it’s all about …
Gotta execute … and get the job done …
Everybody gotta step up …
Nice catch in traffic by Royce.
Come on offense. Need to convert on this one.
Special teams … gotta step up … put em in da hole …
Then da D gotta step up …
Need a stop … c’mon D
WarriorNY: Sorry, if you are a bad loser.
Wow! I just got a message that said something about a duplicate post, so I had to change what I said. lol
“Dang it!”
Whack ’em whack ’em!
sack ’em sack ’em!
Come on Defense!
UDub also recruited the National Player of Year Kasen Williams to go along with that tight end.. thats pretty solid
Yeah 404!
Nice D
Good job D. Now let’s see Harding return one all the way.
Gotta score quick.
That’s not going to help. Come on o-line.
Dang they piled up on our freshman lineman.. hope he’s not injured badly!…
That’s that.
Ouch.. interception…
No give up! Keep fighting!!
We’re already missing Shigematsu.
Silly throw by Mo. Didn’t need to get it all on one play.
They’ve been giving us the short stuff all day. Why go away from it now? Just run a quicker tempo and score. Dang it!
Timeout Mack.
Ref blows the whistle for a timeout, and the clock keeps ticking 3 more ticks… hmmm…
That’s what we needed. Come on offense. Get a quick score.
Wow, beautiful punt, Washington! -5 yards!
Gotta execute down to the last second … cmon … let’s go Warriors …
This is prime time … gotta give a 60 minute effort … go Warriors!!!
Come on Mo. Come on O. We need a TD.
TD Warriors!!!
Two downs to get the 1st.
TD!!!!!!!!
TD!!!! Miah. Oh yeah
Ok … get the onside kick team ready … let’s execute …
Das how! Neva give up!
Come on special teams…need a big play.
That sucks. Now we can’t win with a TD.
Go get um!
You gotta be effin’ kidding me…
Three blown extra point attempts this game.
Coach Tomey, keep doing what you are doing, 2 blocked PAT today!!!!
Dick Tomey’s special teams work unpressive today…
Get um back!
That is not the type of big special teams play I was hoping for…but the onside kick is the main thing now.
Whatever……….
Wow…
Dang. That’s the ball game.
Laura: Go elsewhere, please
Well, exciting game, no matter. Going down 21 early made it harder, but still, they kept fighting to the end.
Got some things to fix, but still pretty good shape.
well … this is what it’s all about … gotta perform in the game …
Gotta perform in prime time …
Gotta start from here and build ..
Can you Warriors say 1-2 before returning to the islands. Whoever said the Warriors can compete in the PAC-12, Ya Right!!! UDUD a bottom feeder in that Conference.
Gotta fix the ST miscues next week.
We definitely had more than our share of opportunities. Woulda, coulda, shoulda…
Pick up the pieces and get ’em next week, boyz!
Sorry everyone. My son is an idiot.
Too bad… but still a good showing for the most part on Offense… Defense gave up too many big plays… and that fumble, interception, and blocked PATs killed our momentum. Got to win the rest.
On that blocked kick, it looked like UW had 12 players on the field…
The way this Laura person keeps trying to instigate crap… needs a permanent ban. Brah, you no come in our house, and talk all dat crap, and tink you going get away wit it.
That onside kick was juuust a little short.
I’m not gonna lose too much sleep on this game. In fact, today’s game makes me feel a bit better for what lies ahead once we enter WAC play. Sure the roadtrips to La. Tech and Reno are always tough, but nothing at this point in the season has deterred me from thinking that this team can still make a run at the conference crown.
the Warrior’s sucked big time today, can’t believe how poorly special teams played, blew the game for us!!!!!Frick
If the biggest improvement comes between game 1 and 2, as most of you say, the Warriors are in BIG TROUBLE this year. Two glaring problems with the defense, the d-line and linebackers are way over rated.
Poorly prepared for this game– blame part of it on the road– coaches lost a day to prepare and a day to put in any prep. We were not ready on D to start the game.
We better slaughter the Rebels ,all I can say after this debacle. Warriors need to nail the Rebels and comee back strong.
Good game. Good extra effort. Thanks Warriors.
I enjoyed your effort.
Staying positive.
One “fan” here got enough negativity for everybody.
Colorado is playing Cal tough right now. Down by 3 and less than 3 minutes left.
What is lacking in the Warrior receiving core is NO Greg Silas type receiver. Darius Bright has questionable hands, and does not seem to like to be hit.
We might have lost this game, but I am satisfied. This team will win a lot road games this year. Being down 21 points early, Hawaii could have buckled but Hawaii battled back. Good game warriors.
Miah contributing well. Just need Stutz to contribute more.
Hey, I did not win the scoring thingy, Pride did.
His name is Greg Salas not Greg Silas.
Think Warrior fans should be a bit frustrated with this loss….a W against Washington and an undefeated season and BCS game was very likely
We gotta solve the Tank thing. Two games now in which he was picked on and got burned. As the season goes on, and videos are requested from upcoming opponents, they will see this trend. Gotta address this now.
Still, though, we had our opportunities, but didn’t take advantage of them. Even to go down 21 and fight back, I like the direction we’re heading. Gotta figure the two blocked PAT’s and the missed 2-pt. conversion… that’s 4 points we gave up in an 8-point loss… after spotting them 21 in the first Q.
DPK–
Please don’t call him a “fan”. He’s someone who’s lonely and needs to find ways to get attention. I actually feel sorry for the guy.
C’mon no excuses. Shows Brown and Bright were not game ready … mentally. A lot to fix … jus gotta get down to business and fix em … man up
New Mexico State beating Big 10 team Minnesota 28-21 with a couple minutes left. Andrew Manley 10 for 29 297 yds 3 td 2 int.
Sorry, Manley is 20 for 29.
I agree with Road Warrior – I’m encouraged by certain things. No need to worry yet. Offensive found their groove. Except for the 4th quarter, special teams was fine. The D has a big question mark over them – who are they? The D who shut down Colorado or gave up big yardage today?
Who making excuses?
Colorado tied with Cal 30-30 with 30 seconds left.
Lots of corrections to make and some good things to build on. PLayers need to play up and coaches need to coach up. I have faith in them.
GO WARRIORS!!!
shoot me and run me over, crap
Cannot gramps, we need you to pick up #500 for us today.

Foanynee!
At least we know we will have a passing game. Big improvement from last week.
Hey, we almost won! Good game.
Almost there.
That wasn’t CU. The team kept battling. Correct the errors.
On to Vegas.
Pomai,
56 – 14 d1shima
Not bad for a bunch of students who have lots of things to think about.
Next week should be fine, assuming the team plays with the same intensity against UNLV as they did as when they were mounting their comeback from 21-0.
Just for those curious about UNLV:
Washington State 38
UNLV 0
3rd Qtr.
Tough loss but coming back after being down by 21 was pretty impressive and showed that this team is never out of it. On to Las Vegas and then the WAC.
Why not. 499
At least the team played their guts out. It would have been very easy to close up the shop in the first quarter and the result would have been ugly. We have a lot of things to work on, but heart is not one of them.
Next week, Sterling gonna get 100 yards…
And Joey, too. :>)
Whenever we suffer a defeat, the depth of my depression is determined by how we played, overall. I see a lot of promise coming from the question marks I previously had. However, I didn’t expect our PAT’s to be a problem. I head into this evening, tomorrow, and next week, with the belief that we are on the right track. I have a good feeling about this team, despite today’s disappointment.
I am sure the issues we see on the surface, as well as those the coaches and players see, will be addressed.
Looking forward to next week’s game! Just wish we were joining those who are making the pilgrimage to the desert! If can, will some of you please stand in some of those buffet lines and take pictures, just to remind us of what we missed? Of course we’re going to miss going to the game live, but the food is always a bonus item whenever we visit Vegas. Ok, mahalo!
Despite the dropped balls, special teams breakdowns, penalties and defensive breakdowns we were in the game. Correct those problems next week and it could be a romp.
The commentators mentioned how UH’s db Tank Hopkins, gave up two td’s thrown his way against Colorado, and that Wazzu must have picked that up and therefore just continued throwing where ever he was located because he seems to not be able to contain the wr’s.
Sure as shootin, poor guy gave up another two td’s and if UH continue to use him as a starter then it’s going to be a very tough season. I feel for this kid, but he just cannot get it done……four td’s in two weeks????..and in this case, the game.
Other than that…I see a lot of positives which can only make the team overall much better as the season progresses.
Better running and better production from the wr’s.
wonder why there was no qb rushes until towards the 4th quarter???
this may be what the defense needed. I bet this is bad as it gets all year and obviously we see a much more intense D next week and beyond. For sure this was not the same Fuskies team they were watching on tape all week. Fusky O line set the tone early and the offensive excuted with purpose. But if this was a bad day for the D I’ll take it. Future MWC foe next week. We might be on the road still but as usual we’ll be the home team at Sam Boyd! GO D!
Win every MWC game no matter what!
I don’t bet but that last extra point miss was huge for the gamblers. Instead of making the extra point and being five points down which would make the spread, the miss and the UW score made it an eight point game. That cost a lot of people some money.
A round of applause for New Mexico State! They just beat Minnesota on the road! Final: 28-21.
We love to see more of Sterling – set the ton on 2 scoring drives.. And I didn’t know we had the Clapp! We should find a way to play him more..
The WAC gets another BCS ‘scalp’ this year, as New Mexico State beats Minnesota 28-21.
You know that Laura sure doesn’t sound like a woman. I bet its a bogus name being used by a guy. Reminds me of Steve. Go Warriors not to worry this team will move forward.
Pomai –
UH 41 – LV 21
Tanks.
Mctruck:
I’m with you. There are some positives. The weaknesses which became apparent even more so than in the Colorado game can be adjusted for. The coaches will be busy this week.
Now my daughter Jjay is using my son’s computer in his room. Sorry everyone! They don’t get out much. Please ignore their ignorance. Thank you.
Pomai… my early guess:
UH – UNLV
63 – 3 Wes’side Warrior
Go, Warriors!!!
Pomai: Warriors – 17 Rebels – 59 OH, wait, forgot to take into account 2 blocked PAT’s.
Corrected score: Warriors – 15 Rebels – 59
Prayers for Gophers’ HC Jerry Kill who collapsed on the sideline with :20 left in the game.
The RBs look like a nice tandem. Very different styles. Jackson adds another dimension.
The synch was much better in the passing game. Look for the YAC to improve over the next games.
TD Fresno. Looks like they came out to play
BYU leading Texas, (6-0)…yeah!!!, I hate Texas!!!
d1shima:
I was wondering why the remaining time that was left didn’t change.
Pomai: 40-24
Oops. Not in PHX. Sorry
Go Warriors!
Kudos to New Mexico State, and qb Manely for their victory over Minnesota!! Too bad Utah State lost a close one which they should have won against Auburn. WAC made some noise alright!!
Two turn overs hurt us… gotta cut those out. Without those, game would have been even. Although, I will admit, the Washington Offense ran over our Defense. The better team for the day won. Next week UNLV and I sense devastation by the Warriors … Hope Shigematsu is good to go by then.
LOL @ Ohio State, for almost losing to Toledo. Wasn’t it their School President that said they don’t play “Little Sisters of the Poor” teams? Funny thing is that there’s a religious order called the Little Sisters of the Poor based in Toledo, Ohio.
Pomai,
31-14
tanks
I think a win over Texas by BYU will open doors for them to get an big12 invite. Very deserving indeed.
My initial take on the game. No. 19, Bright had 3 critical drops, including two that killed drives and the 2 point conversion, and went the wrong way (in versus out) on Moniz’s interception. If he went the right way, the pass was perfect and may have been a TD. May need to stay with Sampson at wide out.
Colorado lost to Cal in overtime 36 to 33. Colorado outgained Cal 585 to 366 at Cal. It would be good for Hawaii if they had won.
I think outside of their bb programs…..the Big East overall is starting to crumble.
oldtimer808- BINGO! There’s only 1LOSER on this blog!
Bright, needs to hit the weight room…other than that being that this actually was his 1st game, I think he did alright…and yes, too many dropped balls, dat fricka!!, bwaaahahaha!!
Westside:
Ohio State President, Mr. Gee has a tendency to put his foot in his mouth. He also fully supported prior football Coach Tressel, until all the facts that came out was too much to overcome. Mr. Gee said before the end that he would be lucky if Coach Tressel didn’t fire him when he was asked if the Coach was going to be fired. Mr. Gee indeed should be fired.
Second take on the game. Hawaii was outcoached.
UW clearly saw something on the tape and took advantage for 3 TDs before Hawaii adjusted.
Calling timeouts at the end of the half cost a TD. I don’t think UW was looking to score, and UH was going to get the ball first in the second half, so they should have let the clock run.
Going for two was a mistake, one point was the proper call at that point.
Fo’ real, Haleakala!
McTruck.. with Bright’s size, he should be dominant on the field, like Salas. Hope he develops that mentality and tenacity to get it done. Right now, Ostrowski is our go-to guy in the clutch, most of the time. Pollard shows some signs of wanting to be that guy. All of our receivers need to be like that with the sticky fingers, and not afraid when hearing footsteps.
I normally don’t like to watch replays after a Hawaii loss but I will on this one.
Despite 21-0 in the first quarter, turn overs, dropped balls, and mistakes, Hawaii was in this game.
>Pomai,
49 – 14 TChahng
Mahalo.
OahuRez.. we were down by 5 points after scoring that TD. Going for 2 is in the books. If successful, it would have brought us to within 3, at at 31-28. We failed, and the score remained 31-26.
Fresno 14
Nebraska 7 2nd
Wondering why JJ is sporting the lei against UTEP in Dallas tonight. Hmm…
Very proud of Moniz. Cannot believe how much he’s grown as a QB. I dunno about the Heisman but I think he has a serious shot at the Johnny U Golden Arm award (Moniz is already nominated).
i kinda LIKE ND’s new unis! different.
Yeah, Bright was a Blight today. Not a Warrior performance. Just a big target with iffy hands & weak base. Bright is 4 in taller and 40 lbs heavier than Trufant, but Trufant bottled him easy. What was Bright’s YAC today? -2? Maybe Lelie can tutor him if he’s still in school.
IF JJ came back to UH I don’t thinkI’d ever stop smiling
Laura, RE: #181
Can you explain why you are acting the way you are. I could have sworn you said you bleed Rainbow green.
Weber St 7
Utah St 3
I am very impressed with the way our Offense got back into shape after a poor performance last week.
Giving it the old college try after going down 21 points is a tough thing to do. Our Offense really showed poise and perseverance. Very very VERY proud of the O as a whole. Yes, there are some areas of improvement but they did NOT give up after the odds were stacked against them.
hateme, i totally agree with you. that’s the big positive i take away from this game.
WOW…Anouncers for the Weber St vs Utah St going nuts over a call.
Moniz was amazing. If you can make plays with poor blocking and bad center snaps you should get the heisman.
Pomai ~ Once again I came soooo close. Please post my 56 – 13 score for me.
Go Warriors!
#550,
+1.
If you have to worry about the oncoming rush, pocket caving in, 4 WR running into dropped coverage AND on top of that whether or not the Center will snap the ball 10 feet above your head or roll it into your toes and still complete a pass. Wow lau lau. Heisman material fo shua.
Last week after UH scores and gets the momentum going Moniz celebrates with fans and gets a 15 yard penalty and puts the defense in a hole. This week UH scores and defense is trying to get the ball back and then Brown hits a player clearly out of bounds and gets 15 yard penalty. So much for señor leadership.
Washington would not even consider recruiting most of our current Warriors? Playing nearly even with them is a testament to good coaching, recruiting over looked players with big upsides, and having players who are willing to work hard to real their full potential. We could have folded, but we didn’t. These hard working players deserve our support. Couldn’t be prouder of them.
Going for two wasn’t a bad decision. You kick the point, still need a TD to take the lead. You fail the two, still need a TD to take the lead. You make the two, need a FG to tie.
Couldn’t see the game close enough to have much opinion. But the overall score shows some real heart to come from 21 down.
It was good to see the passing game gel though. Last week we won on some scrambling and a prayer.
#543
This is where the suspension really hurt us. This was Bright’s first game in two years, and first D1 game. He will get better.
The good news: I think we’re good enough to make it to the Hawaii Bowl this season.
The bad news: Is Hawaii “improving” over the years? Our offense is OK enough and is Moniz is back to normal (we should be better than 30s PPG though), but our D gets steamrolled in the first quarter and makes huge mistakes (welcome back, Aaron Brown), and we get THREE PATs blocked?!
And about the D: If the D is Coach Mack’s specialty, where’s the consistency? I expect us to beat UNLV but that won’t tell us how good the D will be this year.
Or was it two PATs. That’s still two too many.
Was a work, didn’t see the game. Just heard the the 1st and 4th quarters of the game.
I’m always dubious when the Warrios take a two game road trip. It always seems they don’t match their opponents intensity to start the first game. There’s always built in excuses/reasons for this.
Excuse or reason: Their opponent has more uninterupted prep time. UDUB could start preparing as soon as the EWU game ended. UH had 2 1/2 pratices to focus on UDUB then had to focus on preparing for their 11 day trip. Never like to see players carrying ukes, quitars and game consoles going to the airport and when gettin g off the plane in SEA. It tells me a lot of thought and energy when into travel prep. Just couldn’t have continued focus building to a peak at game day.
Excuse or reason: 11 days is too long to be called a business trip for a football team. The last time we beat UDUB it was a Larry Price commado raid. In and out as quickly as possible. Spending three nights in a fancy hotel before a game might be considered a neccessity for a long trip. You want your players to be as comfortable and rested as possible but somehow it doesn’t play into the mentality of toughness and itensity needed in a game. Against Army and UDUB the team need a big wake up call before getting back into the game. I don’t remember who they lost to the first time they tried this but they did lose.
#534
UH was not out coached, UH was out spent. If you follow the recruiting wars Washington over the past five years and more has out recruited us largely due to the fact that they outspend us on facilities, coaches salaries, football budget not to mention being in the PAC-12 and being on the mainland. If anything UH has out coached Washington.
#554,
I have heard different coaches/analyst say that the biggest difference between a good mid-major and a good BCS program is not in the 1st string, rather in the depth of the 2nd 3rd etc.
I do agree that I give the O a thumbs up for not giving up.

The Warrior’s without a doubt has been improving over the past four years. Validation of that was the invite to the MWC.
Great effort by our Warriors they came up short but never quit I was happy to see that…With that being said We were outplayed in 2 out of 3 phases of the game and it’s hard to win when that happens…I will say much like last year when they torched SC’s D it shows promise for the remainder of the season Defense has to stiffen up from the get go,Offense needs to cut down on TO’s as they proved to be pivotal in todays game…Other than that I think another double digit win season is VERY POSSIBLE…

Can you Warriors say 1-2 before returning to the islands. Whoever said the Warriors can compete in the PAC-12, Ya Right!!! UDUD a bottom feeder in that Conference.
Laura,
The Huskies didn’t “compete” in the PAC-10 either when, three years ago, they lost all their games. It’s great that thy’re finally winning, UW is my 2nd fave team in college football and I think they’re headed in the right direction. However, I think it’s poor judgement to say that Hawaii can’t compete in the PAC-12 when they beat one of your league’s teams just last week.
C’mon, it’s not like UW ended up blowing out the Warriors. It was a one possession game. I don’t know what your definition of “competitive” is, but I think that’s competing.
So, if you genuinely feel that your Huskies are the “yardstick” against which PAC-12 competition is measured, then Hawaii really CAN compete in your team’s conference. You can agree with my logic at any time.
However, if you disagree and get humble all of a sudden and feel that the Huskies are not that “yardstick,” then stop talking down, shut up, and get the “heck” out of our blog.
Laura, shut your rotten pie-hole, you’re stinking-up the blog!
All this talk about the defense being one of the best was just that TALK!! Talk is cheap! Even Bob Curran kept praising how tough the defense will be this year…..what a bunch of baloney!! Same old defense…just PATHETIC!
No excuse for this miserable play and plez, plez don’t cry about lack of prep. time or away game and all those feeble excuses….
Give Moniz et co. kudos for persevering even though they came up short. Moniz is definitely a big time competitor and the offense tried their best but the defense was JUST MISERABLE….special teams…well…isn’t that just the norm…..oh, well, Hawaii has the 115th weakest schedule in Div. 1.

Get well, Wounded Warriors!
Bright will get better. Playing against the University of Washington in Husky stadium is a big jump from playing against Laney, Foothill, Butte, and DeAnza Colleges. Patience gang.

Take time to heal ‘ski’ because we will need you back in the lineup next month. Clutch catches made today, Mahalo for being so *scrappy!*
If the game were to have been played in Hawaii.. the Warriors would have won. But that was not the case. So congrats to Washington… the series is tied.. 2-all.
Hope Shigematsu knee isn’t as bad as they suspect. Sending him back for an MRI doesn’t sound good.

Please, I hope JJ NEVER comes back! The way he left…he doesn’t deserve to come back!
Mack is doing a GREAT job with this program!
(If and when Mack gets his extension) i say he should be here for 5-6 more years then pass the torch to 1. Rolovich 2. Aranda or 3. Miano to keep the continuity of this program.
westside,
there was still a lot of time. 1 point brings them within 4, so they can give up a field goal and still tie with a TD
It would’ve helped if Bright had had game reps before today.
Didn’t catch the entire game. What’s the injury report?
I like Bright. I think that he will be one to watch in the future. What bothers me is that our best receiver right now was a basketball player who probably had the least amount of practice with the current team.
Can’t believe our defence gave up 40 points!
Maybe Aranda and the position coaches need to rotate some dawgs in off the bench. I know for a fact that them dawgs are drewling to get in on the action. Let them dawgs loose! Give them starters a break every now an then.

#581,
Did Bright get injured or just pulled out? I realized that Clapp went in for him eventually.
I had hope until the onside kick. I felt as deflated as the ball looked on that play.
Good Job Warriors! Learn these lessons against non-conference tough teams! WAC Champs is still a reality!
Good game, Warriors! Had chance until the end. Didn’t let the 1st quarter get them down, way to battle back. Lots to work on. Still proud of our Warriors.
And Laura, change your name back to Steve, you’re not too convincing as a woman.
Thanks for the injury update, ST.
As it turned out, the worst thing about the blocked kick and two point return was that Hawaii was covering the 6.5 point spread and suddenly the Hawaii bettors were out of luck.
Get well injured Warriors.
pollard’s fumble and the 4th down we could’nt convert……that was the difference.
UH 48 – UNLV 3
Same old story against an adequate passing game – porous pass defense, except for Richard Torres’ interception. Every year the UH coaches say we will have a good pass defense – this year is was supposed to be a shut down pass defense. From the Colorado game, you could see problems when they scored the two TD’s by passing. Oh well, lesser passing teams, UH should manage to win some games.
Drats, I hate losing but despite it all, through all the things that just didn’t go right, I am proud of the effort put out by our Warrior Team!
Thank you for your hard work and efforts today, Warriors!
For holding out and continuing to do everything you could until the very end!
GO WARRIORS!!! GO TEAM!!!
Hard to compare this game with the game against Colorado. Huskies have way better talent. Especially at the skill position.
Mahalo hawaiianbod…..I guess I’m not the only one that smells something hauna that is smelling up this blog. Win or lose support our only team. Losses happen to good teams and this is a good team.
Keep the faith. This is just one game. Remember Washington beat Nebraska in the bowl game last year. They ain’t no joke.
1. Moniz looks like a polished senior QB.
2. Iosefa looks a little slow. Lose a little weight maybe? I like Jackson at RB.
3. Bright didn’t look great but this is the guy’s first game. He needs experience.
4. Yes defense looked terrible at the start. But UH didn’t quit and made a game of it. That says a lot to me.
5. And obviously PAT attempts at DI level should be automatic. Gotta fix.
I will worry if we start the WAC season with another loss. Otherwise, I think this game will be an eye opener for our players and they will be so much better for it.
We won three quarters.. but gave away too many points in the quarter that we lost. Oh well.. next week we take it out on UNLV.
601
Gotta agree, the slow start killed us! But as the game went on we matched intensity and scores. Yes the talent was increased this week but we have talent also.
Don’t give up too soon. This year still can be a special year.
OahuRez… any time you have a chance to bring the score to within a field goal to tie, you go for the 2. If we kick the extra point and are down by 4, and the opponent eats clock, we are then forced to go for a TD, instead of just moving up the field to tie with a FG. Most of the time, it’s not about “time”, it’s about football logic. Not meaning this in a derogatory way, but there are certain rules that nearly everyone follows, in regards to scoring. This was one of those circumstances. Besides, we’d been converting very well on third downs throughout the whole game…
Old Diver and #534
I would like to see someone come up with a calculus that factors a team’s w-l record with the money their program spends, to come up with the an alternative ranking system. That would have turned today into a “w”.
Was at the game today. Sure looked hopeless but they gave
Us something to cheer about. Cant go on the road to a bcs
school and make mistakes. Thats what separates boise
from the rest of the mid majors.
I don’t know if it would have turned today into a “w”, but it would wash the misnomer of weak Mid-Majors, and put them into proper perspective.
The Warrior Coaches, especially the defensive ones, got out coached. What do you do when facing a freshman, or rookie, qb, you try to raddle them, by pressure. Not allow them to sit in the pocket, and get comfy. The UDUB QB was a freshman, how come the Warrior defensive coaches did not pressure him, from the onset. The Warriors could have raddled him. He is a good qb, not a great one, can be raddled.
Utah almost got jobbed with the poor ball position by the refs. Glad the review booth buzzed the refs before USC could take a knee to end the game. Now Utah can attempt to drive for the tie/win.
Another thing to consider is that Boise has been successful for so long, and on a consistent basis. This has allowed them to bring in extra money on top of what the rest of the Mid-Majors share in. Funding definitely equates to greater success, as long as the funds are managed properly.

Watching the Notre Dame vs Michigan game. Unreal. Michgan scores and takes the lead and leaves ND with 1:12 to go. ND takes the ball marches down then scores a TD leaving Michigan with 30 seconds to go. Wolves start on their own 12 marches down the field and scores leaving 2 seconds on the clock. What a game.

The disparity in money is a factor, but to look hard at that is to sell this team a little short. They could have won, they didn’t stop trying. They had opportunies to score but didn’t. If you were to ask any players if money was the problem today, they wouldn’t agree.
Money can’t buy heart, hard work and comittment. That’s what the Warriors have and that’s why they are going to beat some teams with bigger money programs.
The Warriors know they’re a better team than they showed today. The coaches know that. We fans know that.
Looking forward to Las Vegas.
They’ll work hard to correct the mistakes and will be a much better team as the season progresses.

#610. Didn’t read your post before I posted 613. Now that you brought it up. My amatuer analysis of why Laura acts the way he does on this blog is to get the attention of a certain female blogger.
Laura it’s pretty obvious you say what you do to attract responses. You know someone is going to take your bait and give a heated response. You can then act like a tough minded guy who can take on the world and not give a rip what other’s think of you.
In reality (I’ve seen you around) you’re shy and keep to yourself. It’s sad you behave like a spoiled child acting up to get attention. If I see you at a WBB or WSB game, do you want me to introduce myself. Not to confront you but to get your perspective on life.
If you are so honorable and respectful why do you come on here and mock the Warriors all game and at other times this week as well? Why do you say things which you know other posters will find offensive?
The name of the blog is Warrior Beat. That’s why we’re here. Think about it.
#617… DPK… Don’t misconstrue what I’m saying. I’m not taking anything away from the team. Quite the contrary. I’m merely pointing out that comparatively speaking, we (UH) are far more successful than those with far bigger budgets. I was also agreeing with NYUH in wanting to see some sort of ranking that relates actual budget with on-field, on-court success.
Da Punchbowl Kid:
I agree. My suggestion for an alternative ranking that would discount a team if they spent a lot is just to add some perspective to the game. Its a capital intensive sport: recruiting, digital information systems, travel, coaching, trainers, medical equipment, etc.
A major competitive advantage/ barrier to entry are fixed costs, I would suggest it applies in football as well. I wish we had a stronger NCAA that could enforce some parity.
Well, it’s midnight here, and time for me to crash. See you all tomorrow.
G’night, all!

My point is that we’re likely never going to be a big money program, but that shouldn’t stop us from beating down the big boys nor should it change our expectations. We could have won today, the team knew that and kept fighting. That’s what is most important. Expectations.

Great game – the better team on this day won. But why are we talking about budgets & money? This never came up in the days leading up to the game when UH was favored. If UH won, this would not be an issue. Give credit to UW – they beat us on the field, period. Let’s not sugar coat this loss by saying we come back and made a game out of this. The bottom line is we have a L. We need to get off to a quicker start and not play catch up from the first quarter.
Now lets go kick UNLV’s okole!!!
I’m bummed at the outcome of the game. I saw Pollard’s fumble as he was running toward the goal, cutting to his left, with the ball away from his body and a defender closing in fast from the back. Too bad but learn from watching the film. Sorry, I could be wrong but I don’t think the Dline made a tackle in the first quarter. They looked like the beginning of last year when the would lock up with the Oline and try to see what was going on. it took too long for the Dline to develop their schemes. No pressure on the QB and no penetration. The spooky part is that this was supposed to be our strength. All of the mistakes are correctable though. A lot of film time on this road trip should have the Warriors on the right track. I liked their never say die attitude. Looking forward to the rest of the season
The best thing about Steele doing well at ISU is confirmation the coaching staff is good at identifying then signing talented qb prospects. I don’t think we’ve had a qb who started a game here that wasn’t talented enough to start somewhre else.

Great job, Richard Torres! Good to hear that Sterling got some yards in the game. Receptions will improve. Beat UNLV!

For the Warriors to duplicate last year, they have to find a replacement for Greg Salas. Right now do not see anyone close to his physicalness. Bright is a disappointment, thought he would be alot more physical for his size. Ostrowski seems to have replaced Kealoha pretty well.
gmahoney – re 647: lol. He would first have to have a sex change to be a woman.
offense observations,
moniz is starting to come around. still not in stride with all receivers
jackson is a good change of pace at rb
bright did not have a good game but will continue to improve. first game as D-1. will be real good if gets hands in shape.
miah had a good game but will never give us yac. possession receiver
pollard did well. that fumble hurt, but it happens.
stutz seemed to be open often, but moniz goes to miah. stuz was open for td 2 times but overthrown. has speed and playing more physically
oline much ,much improved! hope shiga gets well soon. we need him. but the unit did well agains a tough opponent.
one more thing,
i dont see why people write negatives on blogs.
Statistically it’s a very strange game.
We won time of possession by over 4 minutes … 3rd down conversions 11 of 14 vs 4 of 11 … we had better field position on each drive … our net punts were almost twice as far..

We had one more turnover than they did… one that would have put us in the Red zone with one more scoring opportunity and would have taken away one scoring opportunity from Washington.
w-doc – sorry tp hear about the 16k.
I’m guilty of perpetuating the money/budget discussion. It has some relevance to this game but I wouldn’t make too much of it here. These are kids playing and in life there are very few level playing fields. To some extent you have to get used to it; but sometimes, some people have to detect and fight for what’s right.
#653 – MIH…didn’t get to see the game. Can only judge by looking at the stats.
1 – Win the turnover battle (-)
2 – Win 2 out of 3 phases of the game (-)
3 – Do not give up any big plays on special teams (-)
4 – Score everytime in the red zone (+)
5 – Win the penalties battle (-)
6 – Play great sudden change football (-)
That one extra turn over that Washington got .. pretty much is that 8 point difference.. + the failed PATs.
On the road, those things are huge.. the emotional and mental factors are greater without the 12th man on your side. I think both our Offense and Defense got off to too slow a start.. Defense gave them Carte Blanche on their first three possessions… Offense was just warming up on their first three possessions, too.
Penalties are huge. Especially those 15 yarders.
The D showed up just about the same time the O did… in the 2nd qtr, 21 points down… Warriors got to figure out a way to get off the starting blocks faster.
Did Pollard have fumble issues these past few years, as well? I don’t remember.. Or was this an aberration?
On the blocked PATs. I thought we were out numbered on the right side, the side that blocked the kicks. May have come from the right middle, but because of the overload, who do you block?
One stat of note comparing two games:
Colorado game – individual tackles:
Paredes – 4
Daily-Lyles – 4
Laurel – 4
12 tackles on 65 plays for 18.5%
Washington game:
Paredes – 1
Laurel – 1
Brown – 4
6 tackles on 60 plays for 10%
If you add in the other two playmakers:
Colorado game – individual tackles:
Paredes – 4
Daily-Lyles – 4
Laurel – 4
Falemalu – 5
Hardy-Tuliau – 6
23 out of 65 plays for 35%
Washington game:
Paredes – 1
Laurel – 1
Brown – 4
Falemalu – 0
Hardy-Tuliau – 5
11 out of 60 plays for 18%
I know numbers really can’t tell us anything. Again, I didn’t see the game. Just makes me curious about things like scheme, excecution, and intensity. Maybe Washington did some things better than we did from a scheme standpoint. Just wondering.
NYUH –
Nothing to feel guilty for. We just talkin as Warriors fans here.
Pride –
Great analysis as usual. Intensity and excution were at play. They got better as time went by.
#604,
Boise State would be national champions for the past 10 years.
If you argue the $$$ vs. Performance issue thats fine. But you are also sorta kinda supporting the notion of what many of the bigger schools may already be wanting.
A new division that excludes mid majors because their budgets cannot keep up with the “big boys.”
The fumble was the change of pace in this game that fumble doesnt happen early on it would’ve been a different game! But their are no excuses Wazzo won the game on the field I tip my hat off but Good Job from our warriors they fought to the end. Mo played a great game. Sterling Jackson did good an our recievers had a good game a few drops by bright but that was expected to bad those were when he was wide open an our D was getting torched I think they need to stay level headed. Last week they wanted to prove a point an that was they can be more physical then colorado after that I think they felt they were gonna be able to do that an maybe relaxed off it but lets not take credit away from Washington. They played great espically the QB though I still think other than the 1st quarter the Warriors OUT PLAYED them in the other 3 quarters except for the BLOCKED PATS!
Great Job Warriors keep playing hard they could’ve just lied down an gone into panic mode when it was 21-0 but they didnt Great Job
Go Warriors

re:653 and time of possession
As I was watching the 2nd half, I thought the Warriors could’ve pushed the tempo up a little between downs. We tend to let the clock wind down alot when the clock becomes our enemy. I understand the checks and reads that come with the motion of our slots but it just seems we waste precious seconds by doing this. Also, it wouldn’t hurt us if we could call two plays in the huddle or get lined up on the line of scrimmage sooner.
just my thoughts
NYUH,
UH fans really shouldn’t make the argument that teams should get some kind of handicap if they spend less money on athletics…since that would mean that UH should have been going undefeated every WAC season and all WAC opponents should get extra points when playing against (relatively) big-budget UH. Here are the budget figures from last year (when BSU was still in the WAC).
UH – $29.4M
Fresno State – $25.22M
Boise State – $25.09M
New Mexico State – $23.71M
Nevada – $21.59M
San Jose State – $20.61M
Utah State – $19.23M
Idaho – $15.04M
Louisiana Tech – $14.43M

#662,
We used some timeouts in very interesting ways this season so far. After giving up 3 TD’s in the first Q I thought “Man, this is a 3TO speech”….But it never happened lol.
I put those 3 TD’s on the fact that we can’t cover and create difficulties for any tight ends.
They ran and caught while we ran and watched.
Even if you take away all travel expenses from UH’s budget, UH still spent more than BSU and every other WAC school. UH spends about double what Idaho and La Tech spends. Just something to ponder when complaining about other schools budgets.
Garret…
Wonder what those dollars translate to when Cost Of Living Allowances are factored in… I would think that would put us smack dab in the middle of that pack.
Painful loss, but hats off to the Warriors. They could have folded, but kept fighting back. IF not for a couple of breakdowns on special teams, who knows how the game would have ended.
No shame in our Warriors when you consider the fact that a school like UW recruits some of the top players on the West Coast and beyond, has sparkling facilities, a year-round training table, major $$ boosters, the list goes on.
Lots to improve upon, but there’s something to build upon, too. The best thing is that they play again next week.
CU QB put up 474 yds on Cal vs 223 last week; 582 Total yards today vs 343 last week.
CU took Cal to OT and fell by 3.
I suppose the worst part about this score and loss is that others will look at it… reflect on it.. and think… EWU played UDub closer.
#671,
Winning!
Anyone a little concerned with the snaps to Moniz? I’m wondering what the issue was.
I didn’t watch the game. Listened to BC on the radio. That was miserable, and I’m angry.
You can fry two eggs on my head–one for listening to BC and the other one for the disappointment on the Warriors losing the game. No thanks, I know.
My question, what were the circumstances (or reasonings) on why Kenny Estes started the game (according to UH site, post game notes)?

Agree about the snaps. Must improve.
Both Aggies (NMSU & Utah St) need to be taken seriously this year no matter what the size of their budgets are. Fortunately both are home games.
Roy-san, they started 5 DBs
Watched jantz steele.play. Man why did we let him go? He is going to be a gud qb.
We should give da ball more to jackson. He looks like a beast.
Hawaii guna smoke unlv next week…..

I think it was just the anxiety of the Center regarding his blocking duties… Washington must have been really pushing the middle hard.
I hate losing games because we weren’t prepared the most… because we fell too far behind in the first quarter the second most… and for playing not to lose in the 3rd…4th quarter, third most. Getting dominated throughout the game makes me cringe for our players but leaves me in awe of the other team.
Just too many squandered opportunities against a good quality BCS team..
How did you guys like that new formation in the red zone where two of the receivers move alongside the QB and form a diamond pushing into the end zone.
the Piston full house or A-formation

You’ve said on previous threads that you didn’t know who Steve is. And, now, you say you’re his sister.

Don’t expect to get a warm reception when you come on to a blog and bash the home team. You know this, this is why you do it. To get attention. Some can disagree, but others do it in civilized manner.
One last thing, you say that you will not be bullied off this blog like gigi. Then, perhaps explain why the so many aliases.
Udub made more mistakes in EW game. todays game was a lot different.
Comparing athletic budgets can be misleading. Mainland recruits must pay their way back and forth to the islands. Also it is a researched fact that the biggest factor on where a recruit goes to school is proximity to their home. UH will always be at a disadvantage recruiting and money wise compared to BCS schools. I also believe just about every school UH plays including the PAC-12 teams give athletes an algebra II exemption. For all the recruiting hurdles the coaches face they do a pretty good job.
Hawaii showed local recruits that we can compete against the mighty BCS conferences. This should be a positive in my opinion.

miah showed a lot of concentration, toughness, and good hands. he’ll need another 10-15 lbs next year to become a real force.
big decision for him awaits at season’s end. to ball(as in basketball) or focus on football (and the 10-15 lbs). tough decision.
i know what i’d pick but………
pollard we’ll protect the ball better here on out. there was also a play where he ran down the left sidelines with the ball in his right hand.
bright…will get those bright lights out of his eyes here on after i believe. he seemed to settle down as the game wore on. he probably was one more drop away from being yanked.
got to remember as pride. said earlier, it was his first d1 game and in front of 60k. once he sees everything he’ll play faster and more focused. i like his eventual potential.
i know tomey will correct his pat formation once he sees that replay(s). uw stacked seven and then eight on their left side. which left one and two guys uncovered to rush in.
couldn’t tell if the kick trajectory was too low or not.
i enjoyed the play of both iosefa and jackson. both stuck their hats into the pits of the oncomng defense with no fear.
still would like to see one back emerge with a little more shake n bake. both are north to south guys. makes you really appreciate the likes of nate ilaoa.
Rebel coach:
“We didn’t make any plays on the ball,” UNLV coach Bobby Hauck said. “This is not who we want to be, but that’s who we looked like today.”
Kinda sods like what the Sark said last week.
Moniz’s passes looked good today compared to last week. I’m concerned about his long passes though. Maybe because the wr can’t get separation but the passes also float for that distance. He seemed to throw one up for grabs but I think the UH receiver caught it anyway. Maybe not. I cannot remember, but I know it wasn’t intercepted. It is getting better and maybe in my quest for perfection, I may seem negative. Not so. I want the Warriors to win just as much or more than anyone. Just looking for that illusive perfect game. That’s why they call it practice and not perfect. Imua Warriors!
On the Warriors running backs, I like both. I know that Iosefa is a better blocker. But he runs high and straight like he has to bull over the opponent. Jackson seems to be a better runner with the ball, a little more illusive, but doesn’t block as well Iosefa. Mix ’em up sounds good to me. Who is the 3rd RB?
LA Tech blocked a field goal in overtime in their game today. Their back shot thru the a gap. One of their players picked up the ball and almost ran it for the game winning score.
Tomey needs to repair the broken.
Tough loss, but I’m not disappointed in the team. Not at all. You gotta give credit to Sarkisian for the Huskies’ fast start. I’d be willing to bet those plays were all scripted before the game. Look at the mix of pass/run and left/right plays. Really a great job. He kept Hawaii’s D completely off balance for the first quarter. Obviously, their QB also started hot too.
As stated last week, Sterling Jackson needs touches and he showed why today. He also did pretty well on his blocking. Iosefa should of course remain in the mix.
Freaking great pick six by Torres. The guy is rapidly moving up on my list of all time great DBs. His dad must be so proud.
I still think Tank is a solid CB. If anything, he and Edwards should swap responsibilities, field and boundary.
I’m still, perhaps even more, worried about Sila. Granted he was playing against a really good nose, but he was getting overpowered and didn’t have the feet to stay with his man on moves. Also concerned if Legay starts at RT. Shigematsu being sent home for an MRI is not good news. They do have MRI scanners in Seattle and LV so coaches must be pretty sure the injury is serious.
Not going to blame them for the team loss, but this is the second game in a row in which Brown and Bright have hurt the team.
Please let me know if you’re looking for a author for your weblog. You have some really great articles and I feel I would be a good asset. If you ever want to take some of the load off, I’d love to write some articles for your blog in exchange for a link back to mine. Please shoot me an email if interested. Kudos!
Sorry to hear about Miah – hope nothing permanent is wribg since we need him on the basketball team come Decembern 25.
Was it my imagination or did the defense get left here in Hawai`i?
Some minor personal good news regarding the outcome. Because the score differential was less than 16 points in UW’s favor, I don’t have to volunteer 1500 hours on the Obama 2012 campaign. However, had UH won by 16+ votes, $15K would have gone to Koa Anuenue for women’s sports. Instead. I get to donate $25 to Children’s Miracle Network instead.
Adjustments will be made and technicals will be improved. But for the most part, the play will reflect the WILL AND THE HUNGER of the players. We know Moniz has it. The balls will be caught and kept when that same level of determination is in the hearts of the receivers and runners.
The dee will be solid.
Like they say in baseball- now you seen it, go get it!
LOVE YOU WARRIORS!
You will HEAR OUR VOICES AND FEEL OUR ENERGY NEXT SATURDAY!
SEE YOU IN VEGAS!
Rasu Begasu’s Tsaiko-Vegas #3 activites
Fri 9/16 – Dinner/karaoke at Sato-Ya. 8:00 pm to indefinite
Sat 9/17 – Tailgate at Fiesta Henderson buffet. 3:00 – 5:30 pm
Sat 9/17 – optional charter minibus(s) depart 5:30 pm
Dinner and karaoke at Sato-ya got an unexpected boost today as bilingual crooners Annoddah Dave and MP announced they will attend. Dave is giving MP a ride from downtown in the spirit of Tsai-ko collaboration. See the Tsaiko-Vegas#3 listing for who’s in a hotel near you. 🙂
Pssst….we knew about Dave’s singing, but companion Melanie is Esme-class and MP just floored me with his Hawaiian and Japanese crooning. Awesome! Sneaky guy….
I am still adding to the Tsaiko-Vegas #3 listing and accepting RSVPs. No Rasu Begasu Tsai-ko event requires advance deposit. List at:

I don’t doubt the heart and soul of this team.
The teams of “old” would probably have succumbed to a 50’something – 14 loss after giving up 21 points in 10 minutes. Not this team.
We just need the coaches to step it up and solve our VERY obvious deficiencies.
The defensive adjustments are like molasses, just too slow. It’s nice we held them in the 2nd half, but we really need to make better adjustments after you drop 14 points in 4 minutes. Call a timeout if need be, god knows we aren’t afraid to use timeouts for all sorts of reasons. This would be a good reason imo.
*Sagarin Ratings* – – Hawaii #68
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/fbt11.htm
#718 *EDIT*
Hawaii rated #72.
Thing is… the way the Warriors played tonight.. they probably would have beaten any of the other WAC teams at this point of the season.
#720,
I dunno about Utah St. though…They might be the dark horse in this conference.
IWWTHM
True… gotta keep on eye on that team…
#722,
I don’t think anyone expected this much out of them. They are playing with purpose and with a lot of swag and some kind of chip on their shoulder.
*Losing* at Auburn was one of the biggest boost to their egos.
Their mentality is probably “We will show the MWC who they are missing out on.” Ours needs to be “Look at what the MWC is gaining.”
Still a long season ahead of our Warriors. Lots to look forward to. Looking forward to seeing out receivers develop and our running game materialize.
night all!
Not much of an Xs and Os type of guy, I leave that to the coaches. Udub did what CO wanted to do but Sark was smart enough not to say so. Udub came out and threw the first punch, and the 2nd and the 3rd and the 4th. Three scores and one forced fumble. Like Sark said in prep, it’s about them and not about UH. He focused on getting his team ready for a fight. Am proud the team took the blows and came back to make it close. Still had a chance to win it in the fourth. Really believe if the game was played at the Aloha the outcome would have been different.
Know the coaches agonized over how things unfolded. Also know they are over the would’ves, could’ves and should’ves. Their energies are now focused on getting the team ready for UNLV. They know it’s not easy to win on the road.(no matter who you’re playing)
We have a good team that’s going to improve game by game. Said I’d vote Mack for COTY just for the staff he’s assembled. They coaches will coach, the players will play and for the most part we’ll all win.(fans and team)
Watching the ND v Michigan replay.
As bad as Michigan is…the sight of the 100,000+ fans in the Big House all dressed in Yellow and Blue is amazing.
Being there in person I would probably be at a loss for words.
It’s on my Top 5 list of places I want to watch a football game in person.
College Station, Tiger Stadium, Big House, Beaver Stadium, Colosseum, The Shoe, Bryant Denny, Neyland.
I insist that referees wear the throwback uni’s used in this ND game for all games. Especially those mail-clerk type hats. So awesome!
well much to learn about your team from this game.
main thing we improve as each week goes by. our young offense grew a lot from last week to this week.
before i lay me down to sleep…
a run and shoot team that has a penchant for moving the chains and lighting up the score board should never defer the first possession to the home team of all things. they should relish every opportunity to go ahead from the get go.
why allow the home team and its 60,000 screaming meanies the chance to seize momentum with the first possesion and a possible score.
the visitor should always take the initial kickoff and try to march it down the field, thereby taking away some of the crowd’s enthusiasm and the home team’s impetus.
okay, that being off my chest…good night.
…nuff said.

I think this game will start out close, then once our D wakes up it will be all Warriors. I still don’t think our offense is fine tuned enough to really light up the board but it will be a nice early season offensive output, nonetheless.
Let’s go bows!
