Game day: UNLV

It’s Vegas.

It’s game day.

Life is good.

Hawaii has a rally downtown. UNLV has homecoming festivities. And both teams are just looking for a way to make memories.

  2. wow November 7, 2015 8:13 am

    1st?

  3. Stephen Tsai November 7, 2015 8:14 am

    It’s a little chilly today, I think.

  4. Shoko November 7, 2015 8:22 am

Predicted to be 64 at game time. If you’re in the shade it’s going to feel a bit chilly but nice and warm if out in the sun.

  5. Ipu Man November 7, 2015 8:24 am

OK guys. Tackle. Rip out the football.
Intercept. And on offense run to daylight.
    Go Bows!

  6. pokesquid November 7, 2015 8:31 am

    *Attention Warrior Supporters and Fans.

Look at ST’s last blog and see how the current and last regime for UH is treating our Warrior athletes…..Pathetic!

How can we win games if our players are eating that kind of CRAP FOOD!?

To play like Champions YOU gotta eat and train like Champions…And don’t give me that shit about no more money…In that city you can easily find solid healthier foods to feed our athletes.

This is just another example of mediocre people doing a mediocre job and just showing up for a paycheck.

    God Damn It!

Take pride in your work and take care of our athletes, or get the F out…These guys bust their butts day in and day out and you want to feed them CRAP FOOD!

    What is up with that!?

French fries and some kind of fried thing….looks like Fish and Chips…News flash…That is what those fat-ass Britain’s eat…Oh My God!

Who ever bought or scheduled that kind of food to be given to our athletes should be fired, immediately!…I mean how did you feel after you ate oil based fried foods like that?…EXACTLY!….You felt like crap.

You know what, I am done ranting…But before I go, I just want to state for the record that I wouldn’t even feed that shit to my dogs.

    This is really disturbing!

PS: I know that some of you may be thinking “but Pokesquid” that is just food…No, No, No, No, No…This is not just about food or a meal…This is about PAYING ATTENTION TO THE DETAILS.

The little things do matter and the little things is what can make a difference between winning and losing….Believe That!

  7. Bugaz November 7, 2015 8:33 am

Let’s go Warriors!!! Finish strong gang.

  8. Bugaz November 7, 2015 8:37 am

Along with the throwback unis, at one home game only, Coach Jones should have a helmet made where the whole thing is a bright reflective rainbow.

  9. Hoosier November 7, 2015 8:43 am

Lol. Wish people could get as worked up about blocking and tackling as they do about plate lunches, which is what that looks like. And no need talking about Brits with the obesity problem we have here. I would agree better if we ALL ate healthier. No argument with that

  10. pokesquid November 7, 2015 8:47 am

    7…

With the food that they were fed yesterday…I wouldn’t be surprised if they were bloated with water…weighed down by the cholesterol…and had diarrhea or some form of the dodo-futs today.

Yeah…good luck finishing strong on that kind of crappy unhealthy food they fed you guys.

    I am so embarrassed!

  11. dihudfan November 7, 2015 8:53 am

turn it on and go for it… Go Bows!!!

  12. Isleboy November 7, 2015 8:56 am

That snack was awful looking…..imagine how it tasted….kfc baked chicken
With Cole slaw…mashed potatoes would have been much better….gross snack!!!!

  13. Nanakuli November 7, 2015 8:57 am

I want to see if the Don Bailey offense really works today. Cannot blame Norm
    chow anymore.

  14. el burro sabio November 7, 2015 9:06 am

If you not putting your money where your mouths are, stop whining about food.

  15. 3-Prong November 7, 2015 9:09 am

    Beat Da Rebs Gunfunnit……….Go Bows.

  16. 3-Prong November 7, 2015 9:10 am

64? Sounds like perfect football weather.

  17. Old School Dave November 7, 2015 9:16 am

The UH system has two Culinary Programs at KCC and LCC. Why not set up a dining facility for the student-athletes, where the Culinary students can work there for credit, supervised by the Culinary Arts instructors, with nutritional input from the Strength & Condition staff/Sports Nutritionists from the Athletic Dept? Open it up for the general public, if need be. When they had that cafeteria at the UH Med School, manned by the Culinary Arts students, supervised by the instructors, the food was quite good and I used to eat there regularly. Still the attitude among the powers at be at UH that a Zip Pack bento will suffice and is plenty for the athletes.

  18. Ipu Man November 7, 2015 9:19 am

Potatoes seem to make the Boise machine work…

  19. Ipu Man November 7, 2015 9:20 am

Fish is supposed to make you lean.
Coach is trying to add mean…like I’m still hungry.

  20. pokesquid November 7, 2015 9:29 am

    14…

You don’t know where my money is…so shut it!

And, this is not just about food…it is about the lack of PAYING ATTENTION TO THE DETAILS!

    Wake Up!

  21. papajoe2 November 7, 2015 9:38 am

How does UH spend for meals? Do they give each student/athlete cash and they buy their own meals or do they eat as a group? If cash, then maybe the individual is trying to save money for the casino or just get some extra spending money.

  22. hitmanhart November 7, 2015 9:44 am

aloha and morning all !! how are the team been looking ST? up for the game?

  23. 808 November 7, 2015 9:45 am

I hope Bailey opens up the offense today. Put in some trick plays. Play Ewaliko on offense. Let his speed do the damage. Take a chance and go for it on 4th and 1 if it is close to midfield. Take some chances. What is the worse thing that can happen? 2-8. Or, maybe the ball bounces your way today and you get to 3-7.

    Go Warriors!

  24. Na Alii Pride November 7, 2015 9:58 am

So Pokesquid let me see if got this right –

Based on your posts, you are qualified to be the athletic director, offensive and defensive coordinator, quarterbacks coach, athletic trainer, strength and conditioning coach, and now team nutritionist. Wow, UH should sign you to long term contract and pay you a million bucks.

Oh yeah, we should also recognize your biggest talent as team curmudgeon. Say something positive once in a while.

  25. NorthShoreFan November 7, 2015 9:58 am

    Guud Morning Tsaikos…bootiful day.

#17 OSD, it’s been posted here and comments/suggestions have been forwarded but things haven’t happened. They just opened a new dining/training facility on the slopes of Diamond Head. You can dine there and taste what the students prepare. I hear it’s pretty good.
We have a whole school of kids learning to be dietitians and it would be good training for them to learn about sports nutrition too. TIM to run/staff/manage a hotel and many suggestions have been posted. One day somebody will listen and make like they thought of it then things will happen. Meanwhile….gotta play with what you have.
    IMUA WARRIORS!

  26. Rodney November 7, 2015 10:00 am

A friend told me that Chow on his own
dime would take the kids to eat at a
famous eatery were ever the away games
    were played.
    Go warriors(coach Naole) Bring home
    a Win!!!!!
Lets shut em out Uh 50 Unlv 0

  27. pokesquid November 7, 2015 10:05 am

    23…

I wish that they would do that too…But something tells me that they will not just simply let loose…And it has to do with the current coaches trying to not look stupid if those “chances” backfire on them…Plus they only had a short week, so I don’t know how much practice time they had to try something new.

I hope I am wrong as I also would like to see Bailey use other personal in his so-called wide open offensive attack.

  28. SteveM November 7, 2015 10:13 am

    Good morning everyone!

pokequid — in the matter of food, we are all experts and have our definite preferences of what to eat. This blog is founded on Football, Food. Friends, Family and Fun. in other matters, such DETAILS, consider this.

You have buses to move approx. 75 players and staff. It is a looong drive to the stadium. Post-practice snack means that– after practice and before dinner. The team got a little “treat” in form of of plate lunch (haole style). The colorful box (and contents) caught ST’s eye and camera. The actual schedulae is too tight to have sit-down meals ans snack all day.

  29. el burro sabio November 7, 2015 10:18 am

pokesquid, if your money is where your mouth is, then complain away. But if you are walking the walk, why are you offended?

  30. Hank November 7, 2015 10:23 am

I think our Defense comes through today and our offense does enough. I expect big games from Gener, Garcia-Williams, Nelson and KT. Go Warriors!

  31. Cook 'Em November 7, 2015 10:27 am

Just my take, but I didn’t read Pokesquid’s comments as being negative for the sake of negativity. Could have done without some of the choice words. However, I think his rant comes from a place of really caring about our team. We need everyone that cares about our guys. Go Warriors!

  32. pokesquid November 7, 2015 10:33 am

    24…

Here is something positive…and I think worth getting excited about….But hey U decide.

Another thing I like if Coach Jones takes over is that I believe the remaining player will be able to transition, flourish and fit into his system much better than they did in Chows system…especially in the skill positions.

-I can see Ewaliko (jr), Collie (soph), Ursua (rfr), Bernard (sr) and Harris (sr) playing in the slot positions.

-I can see Kemp (sr), Barker (jr), Ewaliko (jr), Stubs (soph), Haynes (sr), Hagger (jr)…and hopefully Timoteo playing the outside receiver positions.

-I can see Davis (sr), St. Juste (sr), Harris (sr) and Lakalaka (sr) playing in the backfield.

-I can see Zwahlen (rfr) and hopefully Milton playing QB…I wish we had a gauge on Reilly, but until he is given a chance we won’t know.

  33. Shoko November 7, 2015 10:33 am

I don’t think Blake Decker is 100%, but has been taking practice reps in preparation for today’s game. The Rebels pass defense is terrible so Woolsey (or Wittek) might have some success moving the ball through the air. Just hope the players heads are in the game and not grieving over Chow’s dismissal.

  34. pokesquid November 7, 2015 10:37 am

    29…

I am…and I am not offended…Your comment just caught me off guard this early in the morning…Excuse my weakness.

  35. amela November 7, 2015 10:40 am

Pokesquid you gotta stop smoking that stuff and drinking to much make your mind kinda F up. Cannot think straight yeah.

  36. ML Warrior November 7, 2015 10:49 am

Thing turn around today! Warriors playing like madmen with a chip onthere shoulder…

    Hawaii 37 – LV 23.

  37. Old School Dave November 7, 2015 11:30 am

Rebel Stadium is away from the campus. No UNLV Coach’s offices overlooking this field, thus the reason UH decided to practice at the facility. Practicing in shells the day before the game – sometimes it’s good to “shake things up” and get away from the normal routine.

Hope the former captains aren’t moping around. They need to pick it up, too.

    Bring home that “W”!!

  38. mytake November 7, 2015 11:32 am

I was kind of surprised they don’t have special meal plans starting a couple days before the game. To take it one step further they should flush out there bowls starting the night before the game. Believe me when i say 5 lbs of crap comes out. Everyone would be quicker on their feet

  39. mytake November 7, 2015 11:33 am

    I meant bowels

  40. oneseason November 7, 2015 11:38 am

I am expecting revolution, not evolution from a chowless rainbow warrior team … And maybe a blowout of UNLV if the team had malt vinegar with their fish and chips. That stuff is why British rugby teams are great 🙂 … Let’s go bows!

  41. cocobean November 7, 2015 11:55 am

Same advice as always – play hard and don’t beat yourselves.

line from The Natural – “losing is a disease…infectious as the bubonic pleague …attacking one but infecting all…ah, but curable.” Is Naeole the cure?

  42. Markazulu November 7, 2015 11:55 am

I like the way Dakota Torres plays. I think if collie, Bernard, Aaron z, Torres and the running backs stay put the offense will be ok. Just need to be coached up. I would love to see some Justin vele though.

  43. FearGod November 7, 2015 11:59 am

I smell something fishy about today’s game.
Rigoberto with the winning kick or Keelan with the block securing the win
    cheeee whooooo

  44. pokesquid November 7, 2015 12:03 pm

    1 hour till game time.

I’m taking the points and the ML on our Warriors…If they go down, then I am going with them…I think we can be competitive in this game and possibly win it…Vegas over inflating this line due to the fact that Chow is no longer HC…I think Naeole will have the guys ready to go.

    Amela…C’mon…No talk…Puff…Puff…Pass.

  45. pokesquid November 7, 2015 12:07 pm

    38…

When I was a player we use to do that…and yes you do feel a lot lighter and a lot better…My only suggestion is to do it at least 3 days before physical sports as it sometimes made me feel a little weak….But hey, that was just me.

  46. Da Punchbowl Kid November 7, 2015 12:47 pm

    GO WARRIORS!!!
    GO WARRIORS!!!
    GO WARRIORS!!!

  47. H-Man November 7, 2015 12:56 pm

Well, just a few minutes before kick-off. We’ll get to see what the offense does with new leadership, The defense needs to show up too. Go Warriors !!!

  48. DaveLetterMan November 7, 2015 1:00 pm

    Go Warriors!
BC & Veneri just said the noose has been loosened from Bailey’s neck. He was limited by NC in how the game was called. Not so today.

  49. hitmanhart November 7, 2015 1:02 pm

    Let’s go Warriors!!! time kick a$$ !!

  50. z November 7, 2015 1:17 pm

    Lbs disappeared on that drive.

  51. mytake November 7, 2015 1:27 pm

    Harris fumbled on purpose?

  52. lawaia November 7, 2015 1:30 pm

Imua Na Koa Anuenue. Just Win!

  53. inyoface November 7, 2015 1:32 pm

    That’s a safety!

  54. z November 7, 2015 1:34 pm

The refs still no like us.

  55. z November 7, 2015 1:37 pm

    They need to run Ikaika.

  56. Shoko November 7, 2015 1:37 pm

    Wittek time?

  57. Inyoface November 7, 2015 1:39 pm

    Come on offense. Gawd

  58. Shoko November 7, 2015 1:40 pm

    KT!

  59. Shoko November 7, 2015 1:41 pm

    Wow.

  60. Shoko November 7, 2015 1:43 pm

    Lakalaka time

  61. z November 7, 2015 1:44 pm

How long does it take to see that the knee was down?

  62. Inyoface November 7, 2015 1:45 pm

Come on refs! What is this pop warner!

  63. Inyoface November 7, 2015 1:46 pm

Why does every review take 5 minutes?

  64. Inyoface November 7, 2015 1:48 pm

    Bailey opening it up.

  65. Bryson November 7, 2015 1:49 pm

Okay even though we haven’t scored you can see the difference in the playcalling so I guess that answered our question about whose offense it really was…

  66. z November 7, 2015 1:50 pm

    Juice refs.

  67. Inyoface November 7, 2015 1:52 pm

    The refs are against Hawaii

  68. Bryson November 7, 2015 1:52 pm

That’s a horseshit call by the refs it was the same situation that just happened with the UNLV QB and he wasn’t called down…

  69. z November 7, 2015 1:55 pm

Why is Collie still in there?

  70. Bryson November 7, 2015 1:58 pm

Anyone think Collie is messing up on purpose that’s 2 dropped passes both of them on 3rd down both easily catchable…

  71. z November 7, 2015 1:59 pm

The plays are there. Need someon to execute.

  72. justsomeguy November 7, 2015 2:00 pm

I am certainly no nutritionist….and to be honest, I can’t believe I’m saying this….but I agree with PokeSquid…..when I saw the photo of that meal yesterday I couldn’t believe my eyes……that is DEFINITELY NOT the kind of food you need to be giving finely tuned athletes…..It really makes me wish I could give more to the program. Sadly my student loan payments are MUCH higher than the average American mortgage.

Seriously though, when you’re trying to train what are essentially world-class athletes you CANNOT give them such sub par food. It literally defeats the purpose.

  73. Shoko November 7, 2015 2:02 pm

    Wittek?

  74. Inyoface November 7, 2015 2:05 pm

Still no rhythm with qb and receivers.

  75. H-Man November 7, 2015 2:09 pm

I don’t know if someone else posted, but New Mexico beat Utah St. 14-13.

  76. MAKA November 7, 2015 2:13 pm

They be ok second half. Just a little jitters so far.

  77. justsomeguy November 7, 2015 2:13 pm

RK doesn’t even know the down and distance…..like come on uncle

  78. Inyoface November 7, 2015 2:13 pm

Refs giving us back the favor.

  79. z November 7, 2015 2:14 pm

    Perfect call. Nice run.

  80. seewhy November 7, 2015 2:15 pm

When they finally put Ewaliko at QB, the OL jumps… SMFH!!!!!!!

  81. tarhell warrior November 7, 2015 2:18 pm

Touchdown warriors!! nice blocking up front and great running.

  82. Shoko November 7, 2015 2:19 pm

Boise State must be happy about that outcome.

  83. Inyoface November 7, 2015 2:23 pm

    Collie lost it.

  84. MAKA November 7, 2015 2:25 pm

I know there is a L & L there, just about ne thing on there menu would be a upgrade.

  85. z November 7, 2015 2:29 pm

    Saw that block by Woolsey.

  86. Inyoface November 7, 2015 2:33 pm

    Bench Kemp and Collie

  87. pokesquid November 7, 2015 2:35 pm

    71…

We can agree to disagree, at times.

But you are right in your comments and I agree with everything you just said.

    Go Warriors!

  88. FCWarrior November 7, 2015 2:40 pm

No can catch the ball. Nothing new here, hope Naeole makes changes

  89. z November 7, 2015 2:42 pm

    Put in Timoteo.

  90. H-Man November 7, 2015 2:45 pm

I would say Hawaii does not have the players “to open it up.” Ikaika’s numbers first half are 10/18/66yds/1Int. So it’s up to the defense and the ground game if Hawaii is to win.

  91. pokesquid November 7, 2015 2:45 pm

Hawaii +3.5 for the 2nd half.

    Go Warrior!

  92. pokesquid November 7, 2015 2:47 pm

    Try Reilly out.

  93. z November 7, 2015 2:51 pm

I like it when Kennedy is on the nose. He is giving their center the fits.

  94. Shoko November 7, 2015 3:07 pm

Would like to see Wittek to see if our receivers can catch his throws.

  95. azwarrior22 November 7, 2015 3:15 pm

    Woosley is not the answer.

  96. H-Man November 7, 2015 3:23 pm

Paul Harris is; 16 carries for 173 yds,, so far. Takes it down to the 3 yd line on a 72 yard jaunt. Mel Davis blasts it in; Warrior TD. !!! Yahoo..!!!

  97. z November 7, 2015 3:23 pm

Woolsey is not dropping the passes.

  98. Inyoface November 7, 2015 3:24 pm

Naeole doing a good job. I can see Baileys offense finally!

  99. pokesquid November 7, 2015 3:26 pm

    91….

I can’t wait for next season when Zwahlen starts and Woosley is holding the clip board.

  100. Buffoman November 7, 2015 3:28 pm

Wow, another TD…by them. One play!

  101. tarheel warriors November 7, 2015 3:29 pm

I like the effort of everyone on the team. It seems like a different team on the field. Need to limit the big plays by the rebels.

  102. H-Man November 7, 2015 3:30 pm

Well, the receivers need to step up now. UNLV scored way too easily. Secondary has a big puka in allowing long….long passing TDs.

  103. Shoko November 7, 2015 3:34 pm

JGW looks like he landed on his shoulder. Big loss if it’s serious.

  104. FCWarrior November 7, 2015 3:38 pm

    Change the receivers

  105. Buffoman November 7, 2015 3:46 pm

    Defence seems to have adjusted

  106. MAKA November 7, 2015 3:47 pm

They need some points on this possession..

  107. Rodney November 7, 2015 3:47 pm

I don’t see any difference in offense.
    Take some chances Bailey!!!!!

  108. Makai November 7, 2015 3:49 pm

Receivers are pretty bad. It seems like no improvement throughout the season.

  109. z November 7, 2015 3:49 pm

    Hope new coach can recruit.

  110. seewhy November 7, 2015 3:51 pm

Why are they keeping the Shawley situation hush hush? Miano just said he’s no longer on the team. So what happened?

  111. Tempmanoa November 7, 2015 3:57 pm

Chow was a bad recruiter– the recruiting ratings every year showed that but some ignored that. Now look around at the other MWC teams and compare talent by just watching and that shows it another way. The bottom feeder teams like San Jose State have had good recruiting and came within a point of beating BYU on a last second field goal, look at UNLV, look at any MWC team and you will see we lag in scheme and execution, but also in player talent.

  112. Jack Flash November 7, 2015 3:59 pm

Woolsey looking good out there. Receivers gotta step it up

  113. z November 7, 2015 4:00 pm

They made the change and are catching the ball.

  114. tarheel warriors November 7, 2015 4:01 pm

    touchdown warriors!!

  115. z November 7, 2015 4:01 pm

    Walk-on doing the job.

  116. Buffoman November 7, 2015 4:09 pm

Need a new receivers coach. Okay, defense went into old mode again. Poor tackling.

  117. Buffoman November 7, 2015 4:15 pm

Touchdown too easy. Mistakes contribute to the “ease”. Make a big play when it has a little impact…Okay. make a mistake in the red zone….you pay.

  118. oneseason November 7, 2015 4:20 pm

Still time. Not a lot, but some. Team is not quitting. Go for it.

  119. Trunks420 November 7, 2015 4:21 pm

Me think we going to be in trouble next Saturday when Fresno State come to the Island.
They had two extra days to prepare for us

  120. FearGod November 7, 2015 4:34 pm

    Get ready for the “comeback”

  121. FearGod November 7, 2015 4:40 pm

the “comeback” of the RNS and “We Believe”…5 of the top ten HS recruits changes their original commitment to join the Warriors. Previously known as the Rainbow Warriors.

  122. mytake November 7, 2015 4:50 pm

Miano sounds like he’s auditioning for HC. Its nauseating

  123. Come on, Man! November 7, 2015 4:50 pm

“pokesquid, if your money is where your mouth is, then complain away. But if you are walking the walk, why are you offended?”

i guess the only fans that matter are the ones who donate to the booster club.

i thought the post practice snack was surprising. i wonder if oregon or ohio state gives their players fish and potato deep fried in crappy transfat laden oil? you would think that the post practice snack would be something like protein shakes with ground oatmeal inside (for the complex carbs) with chocolate milk (high glycemic carb + post workout + protein = win!) and a banana or something.

but i mean, even if that’s not practical if they’re practicing in the middle of the mojave desert, you would think there would be something better than what was shown. might as well just give the players mcdonalds.

at least they were drinking gatorade and hydrating.

  124. Da Punchbowl Kid November 7, 2015 4:53 pm

Much better effort. Some lousy calls from the refs. Otherwise, have to agree with Jack Flash @ 106.

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  125. Buffoman November 7, 2015 4:57 pm

There needs to be a coaching staff that can teach basics. Catch the ball, tackle and be in position to make open field tackles. Eliminate turnovers on our part.

I don’t have a favorite for head coach.

  126. Buffoman November 7, 2015 5:04 pm

It would be interesting to learn what was said or done by Lance and Kennedy to cause the flags.

  127. cappie the dog November 7, 2015 5:05 pm

    IJ for HC.

    Triple-option.

Let’s not be snobs about it.

  128. Whats up November 7, 2015 5:10 pm

The Refs calling this game need to go see a Ophthalmologist for there eyes and a ENT MD for there Ears for the horrible calls this game. 2 unsportsmanlike calls and that pass interference call when the ball was clearly being thrown out of bound and was uncatchable.

If the same refs call the next 3 Hawaii home games, I hope they give Hawaii some home field calls that they gifted UNLV.

  129. A-House November 7, 2015 5:13 pm

did they coach or play better? seems like Chow was still there which leads me to the conclusion that Bailey and Mason must go!

and the OLB have to do a much better job in containing the outside rush – each time they were taken out allowing the RB to turn the corner for significant runs

also, where was the safeties on the long TD passes where UNLV WR beat UH corners?

give UNLV OC credit as he consistently attacked UH outside while UH ran “up-da-middle, up da middle!

and the dropped passes continue to hinder offensive movement – on the other hand, the offense and defense were, again, playing to??????????????????

We will go to the last 3 home games, but don’t know about tailgating.

  130. A-House November 7, 2015 5:15 pm

oh, forgot about the lousey “zebra” calls — MWC has to do something about eyesight and reviewing plays!!!!!!!!!

I say suspension without pay for the rest of the season.

  131. Whats up November 7, 2015 5:15 pm

The WR’s are still dropping passes, no surprise at all. Naole and Bailey have got to figure out why the WR and TE can’t catch the ball that hit them in the hands.

  132. z November 7, 2015 5:26 pm

Walk-on wide receiver came in and caught 2 passes in a row which set us up for one of the scores. Maybe they need to play players that catch the ball?

  133. Buffoman November 7, 2015 5:27 pm

The way we give away yards, it may not be a bad option to get a defensive minded coach who would be able to get a up and coming offensive coordinator. I know we don’t have the funds to get him but watching the ‘Bama defense shut down LSU is entertaining.

  134. z November 7, 2015 5:30 pm

    126. Bama has the talent.

  135. 3-Prong November 7, 2015 5:30 pm

I bet if JJ was coach they would catch the ball a lot. And score too! hehe

  136. z November 7, 2015 5:32 pm

Funny how they used their tightend like Rolo did to get huge gains.

  137. z November 7, 2015 5:33 pm

If we could just stop our dbs from getting toasted on those deep passes I would be happy.

  138. FearGod November 7, 2015 5:43 pm

deflate gate…check the ball….it might not have the air pressure needed…

  139. Buffoman November 7, 2015 5:48 pm

#127. True. Not disputing that. Like great offensive minds defensive minds find players and ways to make their system work. I find great shutdown defenses great to watch. Others like high scoring games.

  140. pokesquid November 7, 2015 5:53 pm

Still 3 more games to go…This is going to be a very looooong off-season.

  141. Rodney November 7, 2015 5:58 pm

    Go warriors!!!!
    Rich Miano is nauseating!
    It has been sounding like
he is marketing him self for HC
    since last few games!

  142. z November 7, 2015 5:58 pm

    132. I too like great defenses and watching big defensive plays. I like defensive players who make plays on the opponents side of the los. I know who coaches our olbs but their play just haven’t been up to par.

  143. Casual Observer November 7, 2015 6:09 pm

Now that Norm Chow is gone, the frustrations expressed in these blogs seem subdued. Who to blame? Would they have won with Wittek and Chow?

  144. oneseason November 7, 2015 6:12 pm

The players and coaches are doing their best. They didn’t build and lead the program for almost four years, they inherited it. IMO, this shows that simple change in the leadership is not enough to have a bowl eligible-type team.

  145. Come on, Man! November 7, 2015 6:30 pm

UH is a terrible football team, guys. best of luck to the next coach and hopefully he turns the team around quickly.

  146. Come on, Man! November 7, 2015 6:32 pm

also, woolsey is not the answer. but you just gotta go with whatever at this point until the season ends and the rebuild can begin.

  147. Trunks420 November 7, 2015 6:53 pm

    #138
Me agree we be lucky to get a famous great coach we all want but we can’t afford.

Me sad because our best bet and for sure thing is Big brotha June Jones.

Me Don’t want him but at least he know what is expected and may deliver.

  148. Derek November 7, 2015 6:55 pm

Kennedy shouldn’t be a captain. He lost his cool out there. Unsportsmanlike or taunting penalty which eventually resulted in a touchdown.

  149. Hank November 7, 2015 7:03 pm

#141 The guy fell on his legs from behind .. whether or not it was on purpose I don’t know. But it looked like ON PURPOSE TO ME. I give KT a pass – he deserves it.

  150. Come on, Man! November 7, 2015 7:09 pm

“Kennedy shouldn’t be a captain. He lost his cool out there. Unsportsmanlike or taunting penalty which eventually resulted in a touchdown.”

These kind of things probably happen when your team is consistently losing and getting blown out by bad teams. this is a poorly coached football team that has barely won any games and doesn’t even look competent most of the times. they find a way to lose. These are proud players who are extremely competitive and work really hard. To not have any kind of success must be frustrating.

  151. Come on, Man! November 7, 2015 7:14 pm

“Now that Norm Chow is gone, the frustrations expressed in these blogs seem subdued. Who to blame? Would they have won with Wittek and Chow?”

No, they probably wouldn’t have. who is to blame? norm chow. he built this team into what it is (if “built” can even be used here), and yes, revolving door of offensive coordinators, injuries, travel, etc, etc. but as head coach, he’s ultimately accountable.

so frustration on the blog comments are probably subdue because norm chow is fired and the season is lost. everyone is waiting for who the next coach will be and how he will turn things around.

  152. cocobean November 7, 2015 7:18 pm

I wouldn’t blame a post practice meal for the lost. I would check what they had for breakfast and snacks right before the game. The DBs had french TOAST, the front 7 got cinnamon ROLL(ed), the recievers and some running backs eat too many BUTTER FINGERS. Everyone were served several cups of guava JUICE. No doubt UNLV enjoyed some HOME cooking instead.

  153. z November 7, 2015 7:24 pm

Okay who fed the refs JUICE?

  154. Arcumfortis November 7, 2015 7:33 pm

In my 25 years (or so) as a fan and season ticket holder I have never felt as much disinterest in the team. I will show up for the last three games and support the team. But we have sunk to such a low that my ability to be interested is about zero. I am quite sure other less interested fans have bailed a long time ago. I do appreciate Dave Matlin pulling the trigger and leaving no doubt that there will be coaching changes next year. It is the only interesting thing left.

I appreciate Ikaika’s grit and determination. But we learned last year that he probably does not have quite enough to be a successful D1 QB. At least Coach Naeole did not run up and down the sidelines like a fool yelling at the refs. I wish the boys well and particularly feel grateful to the graduating seniors who have spent their college careers in a perpetually losing situation. It must have been a difficult experience. Here’s hoping the future is brighter.

  155. Kryon November 7, 2015 7:41 pm

What’s more irritating then miano is Hawaii fans who want JJ. Stuck in the past. Time to move forward. JJ will do this.JJ will do that. Who knows. If he was so good, why hasn’t any other school called for him? Last I heard, no team wants him n hes been sitting around for 2 yrs. There has to b a reason. Yet, some fans still scream for him. Y? Leave him in the past n move forward. Tired of hearing how great JJ would b for us again when no one else wants him. That’s how great he is. No one else wants him. Things that make u go hmmmm.

  156. 808 November 7, 2015 7:41 pm

I hope the next UH HC brings in a seasoned WR coach and not a grad assistant looking to make it into college coaching. I know everyone has to start somewhere. But, they can make their start somewhere else, just not at UH.

From 2-2 start to now a 2-8. It seems the rest of the teams in the MWC is getting better. I hope UH can at least protect their home field and win out the next three games.

  157. cocobean November 7, 2015 7:51 pm

I expect the JJ for coach crowd will scream louder that we need JJ to fix the offense and score more. The Miano crowd will reason he is the better choice. That both the offense and defense needs better players and recruiting is his strength. The caveat being he brings Rolo back. In my opinion they both are chomping at the bit for the job and would be willing to give Matlin a hometown discount if the pay pool for assistants goes up.

Matlin’s seat will grow hotter with each loss. It may come to a point where the public will demand JJ but grudging accept Miano/Rolo even if they may not be the “right one.” The public just wants relief from the ills that losing brings. Winning is the cure. The cure is a process but the public just wants to take a pill to ease the pain they are filling now. Many felt relief when they swallowed the fire Chow aspirin but taking aspirins don’t cure the overall cause of the pain.

  158. Kryon November 7, 2015 7:56 pm

N wats so irritating bout miano? That guy bleeds green. That guy has dedicated his life to Hawaii football. He could have gone anywhere n gave his soul but he chose to stay home n give back to his home. He is Hawaii football for life. Yet, some fans here rather put him down n call for JJ? The person who just complains n blames lack of success on every obstacle but himself. Who is also a poor recruiter. N, oh left us after all his crap talk bout staying here. Oh wait, let’s blame the AD who didn’t extend his contract. Do we really know if JJ wanted to extend? It’s all words. jj thought he could go elsewhere wit better facilities then us n do better. Cuz that was his complaining all along while here. I can do more if this n that. Whatever. JJ got his butt handed n shown at smu. Stop putting down a lifer who bleeds green more then any fan out there. Remember, without him, there would b no colt Brennan. Even Brennan said, miano is a great choice. Even if miano doesn’t get it, we should still support him for all that he does. More then JJ will n ever do for Hawaii football.

  159. 808warriorfan November 7, 2015 8:13 pm

I’m neither pro or con on JJ coming back … that goes for Rich Miano too … I just want someone who can recruit locally, restore pride to the program for the players, fans, and State … and will be committed in the long run to UH … if it’s JJ then so be it … I bet the anti JJ fans out there will buy season tickets should he start winning … I’m just glad AD Dave Matlin won’t have a STUPID Selection Committee of people who don’t know D1 football making a recommendation … that’s a GREAT START !!!

  160. 808warriorfan November 7, 2015 8:26 pm

    #151″ … “KRYON” … AMEN !!!!!

  161. kev-1 November 7, 2015 8:27 pm

Woolsey WAS NOT the problem out there today and you know it. The receivers and poor defense was. Woolsey played well enough to win.

  162. kev-1 November 7, 2015 8:29 pm

#120 … I’ll be a snob about it. .. no thank you to the triple option.

  163. kev-1 November 7, 2015 8:31 pm

#151 … Sorry, the only advice I’d take from Colt Brennan nowadays is were to score some dope.

And I was the hugest Colt fan.

  164. cocobean November 7, 2015 8:58 pm

Dedication to your craft. Drops have been epidemic to the whole receiving corp. No doubt they work hard in practice to improve route running, footwork, timing with the QBs and catching the ball. Working hard in practice should be a given no matter what position you play. Dedication is a whole other matter. Dedication is how hard you work outside the mandatory. Dedication to your craft is how hard you workout before, between and after the mandatory. Every UH fan knows which past receiver is the poster boy for dedication to your craft.

  165. Come on, Man! November 7, 2015 9:22 pm

    Angry Kryon is hilarious.

“june jones was supposed to be dedicated to hawaii but left for more money and better facilities. I am still very butthurt about the fact that coaches are people and coaching is a job, so therefore although in any other job situation, i would understand that someone would leave a company for better working conditions and better pay elsewhere, when it comes to june jones, NO EXCEPTIONS.”

“i have no football reasons other than my dislike of june jones (for whatever reason) to dismiss him as a coaching candidate, despite his body of work. rich miano, on the other hand, who has ZERO head coaching experience at the collegiate level (and i’m not even sure if he even had experience as a coordinator) is apparently okay because ‘he bleeds green.’ and also, because colt brennan said so.

goddam june jones left us. i HATE him. :(“

  166. Come on, Man! November 7, 2015 9:24 pm

” Sorry, the only advice I’d take from Colt Brennan nowadays is were to score some dope.”

i wonder what he’s doing nowadays. Hawaii fans tend to turn on their heroes and tear them down pretty quick.

  167. kev-1 November 7, 2015 9:38 pm

Turn their backs on their heroes? Come on man. My comment was a sarcastic diss, not the crucifixion of a savior.

  168. Come on, Man! November 7, 2015 9:41 pm

“Turn their backs on their heroes? Come on man. My comment was a sarcastic diss, not the crucifixion of a savior”

that was just a general comment that wasn’t directed necessarily at you. most hawaii fans are pretty fair weather.

  169. cocobean November 7, 2015 9:46 pm

Come on. You apparently enjoy playing the truth police. People are expressing their opinions. Opinions are not facts it’s how people perceive something. It’s people expressing their feelings. Not everyone is going to look up the “facts” before they post. Your comments in my opinion are more suited to comment on what political candidates say who’s comments often fail fact checks.

I enjoy reading or participating in a debate. Laughing at peoples opinions in my opinion makes you look ……. ,,,,,,, ….. hey you fill in the blanks. Just saying…

  170. kev-1 November 7, 2015 9:47 pm

Got u. Maybe one too many for me tonight. For the record, Colt was fricken awesome. Unfortunately some post football issues that likely impacted his pro career. Maybe my joke was insensitive. My bad.

  171. el burro sabio November 7, 2015 10:16 pm

Come on, Man! You’re entitled to your opinion on anything, even if it’s wrong. 🙂

  172. Moocher November 7, 2015 11:13 pm

At this level surely receivers must all be able to catch, but ours are having issues. Why?

The unit as whole are inconsistent and unreliable. Are there any receivers on the bottom of the depth chart looking to get some playing time and make an impact…now is your chance.

Seems like the footballs are all stamped with “return to sender.” Chow recruited big receivers, tall receivers, some speedy receivers…but for pitty sakes is there not one consistent receiver that is able to catch the ball consistently? I mean beside, “Oh my bad” what is it receivers that drop balls and kill drives tell their teammates?

Speed, smart routes, soft hands…it’s your ball, go and get it…come on guys step up or sit down.

    no catch, no play….period.

This late into the season its gotta click by now.

  173. oneseason November 7, 2015 11:32 pm

Coach Chow needed to be fired not so we could win more this season, but so we could win more next season; however, I still think removing him after the AF game gives the team a better chance to win more this season. I look forward to the AD doing a comprehensive search for the new coach.

  174. Kryon November 8, 2015 12:02 am

    Come on man!
I’m not saying miano should b next, I’m saying he deserves consideration n at the very least respect.
Everyone here seems to think JJ is the only answer. I’m saying open ur minds n move forward, not dwell in the past.
Don’t bash someone who truly gives back n is heart n soul Hawaii football yr in n yr out. Come on man, all u do is put in ur 2cents without comprehending. I’m not saying cuz colt said we need to listen. I’m saying who was the person who recruited him? It wasn’t June. So that says something bout miano. He looked for talent that’s hidden. June is considered a lazy recruiter. Thats a fact. Miano had his walk on program. He tries to improve athletes wit his quick n agility program. So wat if he wasn’t a coordinator, head coach on the college level, it doesn’t mean he couldn’t do the job. Thats the kind of small level thinking u have. N that’s Hawaii. We don’t give people shots. Look We jus got beat by a coach who was coaching High school last yr. I’m sure he didn’t play high level football, was a college coordinator, or head coach in college somewhere. He jus proved that he could b a go getter, motivator, action oriented, etc to whoever was in charge of hiring the coach. N they gave him a shot. A shit he prob deserved for doing so much for the young ones in the state.
So stop your pathetic antics of starting crap wit people. Jus keep ur mouth shut. PS: post your address so some of us can send back your 2Cents u keep throwing us.

  175. papayalips November 8, 2015 5:14 am

June Jones IS the only answer. Period. Unless Matlin wants another job.

  176. papayalips November 8, 2015 5:17 am

June Jones was pushed out by horrible negotiating tactics. Ask Herman Frazier.

  177. wow November 8, 2015 7:00 am

lol, Norm is gone, whiners/ranters are looking for the next person to blame.

  178. Old School Dave November 8, 2015 7:14 am

A loss is a loss, but much better effort from the team vs UNLV. Saw some spark that wasn’t there last week. Still, a lot to work on. Blaming and pointing fingers serves no purpose. The players know that they can do better. Everything is execution and staying focused (nevah mind all the distractions!!).
