I can’t wait to see the game! It is nice to have a Friday game after the bye week…one less day to wait. This game should go well for the Warriors and I wish I could have been there.
Nice to hear about UH getting close on some recruits. It is amazing that the coaches can recruit with the contract situation causing concern for recruits and their families.
Recruiting the Bay Area might get harder for UH if the SJSU series ends. That might be the silver lining for UH if SJSU gets invited to the MWC.
Game day baby!
Go Warriors!
GOOD MORNING HAWAII!

And Warriors—DON’T drink the water. It has fluroide which
may cause Alzheimers and keep your thinking fuzzy during the
game. Drink bottle spring water, maybe even water from
Hawaii…Probably this info is too late. Oh well, maybe with
UH talent, we can come out on top…as they probably drink
it, too…but I knew of nobody in California who drank the
water whenever I went there…
Back at In-N-Out, with Al, Stretch and Derek Inouchi.
*Boise and AFA will get Big East invite*
It’s funny how raising the exit fee from $5M to $10M, while possibly shortening the 27-month window is seen as a “sign of stability/commitment”.
Anyone think that $10M is going turn WV/Louisville/Cincy into paupers if they leave for the Big 12? What do current B12 members make in TV $?
What they are essentially doing is locking in the incoming schools who don’t really have a shot at a bigger conference yet leaving the door wide open for current Big LEast members to make the jump to the ACC, Big 12 etc where TV $$$ could EASILY cover their buyout.
Caveat emptor, Boise and AFA….Caveat emptor….
http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/college/basketball/big_east_to_invite_six_VYHt8ArQpLKGN5Cz8tZSlM
GOLF NOTE: Michelle Wie is 3 strokes behind the leader in the LPGA Malaya tournament after 2 rounds. Had a bunch of bogies in the two rounds but also a bunch of birdies – shot 68 in both rounds.
Thompson should come out with a statement that if the MWC loses 2 schools, they will actively pursue 2 full members and 1 B-ball only member from the WAC.
If Benson wants to be a solution to where AF and Boise will land their non-FB schools, the MWC should be willing to kill that conference off.
If Benson was smart, he would have had these discussions with Boise/AF in private and not be so public about it. The BYU fiasco part II.
Nice to hear we’re in on some defensive tackles. That’s the #1 priority of the next class. We need DTs who can come in to be potential starters as well as depth. Next year, we have Haku Correa and Geordan Hanahano returing who have been in the rotation the last 2 years. Sorry, I can’t think of anybody else top of mind. When we lose 2 starters like Tuipulotu and Meatoga that’s a lot the replace. It ain’t gonna be easy.
Question: Who’s the #1 DT prospect from Hawaii this year? The Waianae lineman is very good, but I think he’s still only a Junior. No one else seems to be a dominating player. The last 4-star DL recuit we had was Jose Leonard and he was pretty good. He was a JC player.
But, good luck to the Warriors today and good luck with the recruiting.
iwwthm
good point
“If Benson was smart”
spilt coffee on my keyboard
Go Warriors.
Did you see yesterday’s game between San Diego St. and Air Force? I mean, this SD State kicker by the name of Abe Perez is something else. All of his kickoffs were totally out of the back of the end zone and this is from the 30 yard line so that’s 80 yards, in the air. I was astounded. Not to mention he made 2 of his field goals. Perfect. I was impressed and I dream about Hawaii having a kicker like that. Here’s wishing.
We had one called Elam.
ST, I’ve had in -n-out and tommy’s from east LA. If throwing caution to the wind with regard to oils, fats and all that bad stuff is a part of the equation, I tend to lean toward that sloppy tommy’s with the greasy chili and that slab of tomato. But that’s just me and it has to be from the original tommy’s.
kawika,
Yep, its true though.
Let the Missouri Valley Conference add AF/BSU. I am sure their basketball heavy schools would treasure the idea of those 2 schools.
Better yet, the Big LEast should just offer a full invite to both schools.
GO WARRIORS!
Derek, who’s Jose Leonard?
Better say.. g’morning! before I’m out of the top 50!
I smell football in the air!
CUSA will get hit by the MWC also. I think that both conferences have known this was coming and that is why they have been talking about the merger so much. MWC can add SJSU and USU, CUSA can add Temple or FIU or La Tech or UTSA and both conferences will have 10 schools. Neither could have a conference title game with 10 schools, so they could have the first inter-conference title game.
http://brett-mcmurphy.blogs.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/29532522/32716356
I’m very curious as to where AF/BSU are putting their non-revenue sports.
Must be the MVC as they “denied” wanting to expand at this time, but not opposed to going to 12 teams.
They keep a low profile until the deal is done. Smart.
All this maneuvering gives one a headache…
Good morning everyone!
Good noonish to ST and the Tsai-kos in the San Jose area!
I’ve been mostly off-line busy entertaining a visitor since Sunday.
Plane left last night.
So now it’s game day!
GO WARRIORS!
conference talk again, getting sleepy, early siesta time.
enjoy the nap. =)
Garret,
Good point. I forgot that CUSA may decide to add teams like UTSA and La Tech.
If we don’t kill off the WAC first, CUSA probably will.
Part of the MWC/CUSA alliance may be to jointly kill off the WAC for football. Craig Thompson said a couple of years ago that the MWC will make more money if they are the only non-AQ football conference in the West. CUSA cannot be happy that the MWC expanded to Texas since that is one of their core markets.
So, killing off the WAC’s football offering means that both the MWC and CUSA will make more money. That means that the next MWC TV contract (unfortunately in 5 years) will be much richer because the supply will have been reduced and the demand is up due to Fox/Comcast/CBS/ESPN. That could bring UH a lot more money…or at least reduce the loss from PPV to a smaller number.
Since this is Game Day this will be my last non-game post.
iwonderwhytheyhateme – your #35: What does AFA stand for?
Doc,

Don’t forget to vote for Kanani. She’s currently in first place with 18.5%.

double double with cheese and the infamous fresh cut fries.
no animal style here but for stretch yes.
asked the boss if she wanted dessert, i was willing to split another double double with her.
I’m guessing that the MWC does not have some sort of clause in their tv contract(s) concerning conference shake-ups. Meaning, if conference membership changes, it might require shopping themselves out. Otherwise, I’m guessing we would’ve heard something about it already.
Obviously, ESPN had such a clause with the WAC, since the WAC will only get a fraction of what it once got while Boise, Fresno, Reno, and Hawaii were still full members.
AL:
How are you going to get one back to me – or do I have to wait for you so we can go to The Counter?
Here’s a question that I think a bunch of people on this blog may know the answer to. If a MWC team is playing a team from another conference, say the WAC, that ESPN has tv rights to, who gets the rights to televise the game? The MWC only? The other conference/ESPN? Or both? Just curious.
I think it goes to the “home” team’s conference. Don’t know about neutral sites, though.

I want to see our Warriors put on a clinic in San Jose… Looking forward to seeing everything click and fall into place for our Warriors!
GO WARRIORS!
Derek, maybe you were thinking of san jose, who knows. just asking cause now you cleared that up the e and h on the keyboard are typed by two different hands. unless you only get one hand. just wondering cause i haven’t gone through mini strokes and know what the consequences or post effects are.

Regarding the tailgate at San Jose…
Might be the last…
Hmm… HCCNC president Darryl Higashi… wonder if he’s the same Darryl Higashi as a 1970 Aiea Grad I used to know?
whops wrong link

Okay, this is interesting.
http://www.themwc.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/101411aah.html
22 members.. is that 22 football members.. sounds to me like they need at least two more… 6 per quadrant…
The Mountain West Conference and Conference USA have merged.
http://www.themwc.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/101411aah.html
So, will Boise State, Air Force, USCF, Houston and SMU think otherwise of joining the Big East?
So does this mean we won’t have to wear that hideous MWC logo thing on our football unis?
One of my cousins with the Northern California Hawaiian Athletic Association is out there now, tailgating before the game. His name is Ralph Villafuerte. Said they sitting around the 50 yard line.
Wow, thanks for the quick link, iwwthm! So, they’ve agreed in principle. Still gotta cross the T’s and dot the I’s, I guess.
looks like the association will be very similar to pro bb and nfl. they don’t need to have the same numbers in each league or division, but will be having a championship game for the winner of the mwc and cusa. sounds good. also i think this will make it easier to schedule non conference games because they are all in it together.
I still can’t get over the weirdness of a school from Idaho in the Big Least. Guess their fan base will need to save up more money for farther, more frequent road trips every year. Not like the team is going to be giving away free tickets to all away games with the extra income.
to all the tsaikos at the tailgate and game, enjoy the game and a safe jouney home.
So, the final regular season game we can play is now earlier, just in case we’re heading to the championship game with C-USA. Hmmm… what’s our schedule look like now? Everyone will be scrambling around to make changes. Hope we don’t wait too long, and end up with junk fillers.
with the number of schools within the new association, it will be very hard to deny them bcs status.
whitey, don’t know about denying them AQ status but there is a formula and from what i can remember the more schools does not equate to a foot in the door. need a good representation in the final BCS poll and also take into account a 2 or 3 year sliding window.
Garret has the formula.
Yep, its the bottom feeders of each conference that bring down their rating.
Anyone know how this would affect the Hawaii Exemption? Also, what if UH wins their division, where would be considered a neutral site?
I still hope that UH and the MWC/CUSA will petition to get Hawaii that early week exemption for itself and whatever team it is playing to start the season. Having an extra bye week would be beneficial for all those travel miles and missed classes that the kids have to deal with.
I figure if 22 teams ask for it on Hawaii’s behalf, they gotta at least give it a good consideration, eh?
Simple game…protect the field….impose your will
21 games in a season. WOW! 😯 😮
Gameday baby!
GO WARRIORS!!!
Go Warriors!
If BSU and AFA leave does that make UH one of the bigger dogs remaining in the hideous-logo conference?
Now if only the admin would get their heads out of the warm and fuzzy hole they seem to prefer.
100!
I sure hope the Big East understand BSU will continue to use them as a stepping stone to the Big 12 or Big 10 or whatever.
no forget, na Wahine plays at 2:00, now.
There!
Boise not going.
Air Force not going.
I MUA WARRIORS!!
All I’m gonna say is the F*ing BCS has ruined college football! WTH, BIG BELT, WAC SUN? MTN USA… All I can say is that when this re-alignment crap is all said and done we’ll be closer to a playoff system then we ever have.. Stupid!
UH 38 SJSU 28
Win every WAC game no matter what!
Did the senior Sapolu address the team?
He could definitely get their attention!!!
Love that, “Mom, Send fish and poi.” sign in the CGD opening.
ST posted pics of Aaron Brown w/parents; and, Jesse Sapolu.
I can’t catch ESPN 1500 in Kaneohe..
postmanke:
I’m thinking, if the NCAA does indeed cut 5 scholies off of each FBS school’s football team, there will be 600 athletes that will be dropped from the bottom of the list of available players.. that may spell better parity among all teams, including the non-AQ, and things may really start to change in unprecedented ways.
Hey, maybe the Big East should invite UH then change their name to the Ridiculously Humongous East-West Conference.
They could have their offices at the East-West Conference Center, Manoa.
*snort*snicker-snicker*
Isaako Sopoaga addressed the team last night.
Jesse Sapolu was at the hotel today; not sure if he gave a pep talk.
Hope that Center Kody Afusia gets some snaps.

Right on, Ice Man.

Cross Country Conference.

ALL AMERICA CONFERENCE
AAC
Last year, a hypnotist hypnotized Afusia into thinking he had 11 fingers.
It would be cool if a lineman could hypnotize a d-lineman into always jumping offsides.
It also would be cool if Kenton Chun kicked the winning field goal, then made the goal post disappear.
Did that ESPN guy just say Bryan McNeese?
ST – thanks for the pics!
The Monster Masch group is HUGE!
GO WARRIORS!
GO WAHINE! (UH wins 1st set)
What was it ? Two or three years ago we suggested on this blog, a CUSA-WAC er MWC conference marriage!
NICE!!!
Postive words about Mo!
fyi, Wahine 25-10 first set.
Big East will lose their AQ status. It will be given to the MWC-CUSA merger.
I wonder how much ESPN “meddled” in the negotiations between the MWC and C-USA.
Or was it CBS, FOX, whoever . . .
Conference of America
Go Wahine!
Rah-rah-rah!!!
I don’t think Boise St. or Air Force will leave now. It doesn’t make any sense that Boise St. would go East when they are in the West, just like it doesn’t make sense that La Tech comes West when they are in the East. The big driver is travel costs.
This merger makes sense to me for football because of the disparity and as the announcement says, it involves teams from 16 states. That to me means a lot of interest with 22 teams. This is how I envision it:
One division you can call it the West Divsion, the other the East.
The West Divsion would includes the mountain west teams, plus UTEP. That’s 11 teams.
The East Division would be the other Conferece USA teams. I’m not sure what the new merger will be called, but some suggestions:
1) The Democratic Conference – well, it would be progressive and it would be a little liberal.
2) The USA Conference.
3) The Biggest Conference
4) The United Football Conference (UFC)
5) The American Conference
6) The Melting Pot Conference
7) The Ultimate Conference
8) The Diverse Conference
9) The Merger Conference
10) The BCS Buster Conference.
11) The National College Football League (taking off of the the NFL). I like this one the best.
Hawaii would play 10 conference games and 3 non-conference game, with possibly a conference title game for 14 total games, plus a possible bowl game so that would be 15 games. It is important that Hawaii retains the Hawaii Exception. The non-conferenc games would be preferably all home games, but at best 2 home games and 1 road game. So, the ideal situaton is to have Hawaii have 8 home games and 5 road games or 7 home games and 6 road games. This assumes Hawaii would have 5 home conf. games and 5 on the road. The conference title game would either be a neutral field or the home team that have the highest ranking in the polls, or rotate annually of each division champion. All this seems very exciting and there are a lot of interest. The blogs will multiply just like the IPhone 4S.
The Conference of America or even The Football Conference of America

not so special teams ….. nooooooooooooo
What was he thinking at the 2?
touchback
This game is making me nervous.
Saw Tomey “talking” to him. Probably a good thing he is not mic’d.
Edwards is thinking too much. Still learning the position.
I’ve noticed that Mike Edwards has brain freeze every time the ball sails toward the sidelines.
Oh-Oh, hammy for Pollard?
stop limping please….
Pollard gimpin’? Aiyaaahh..
man what is happening warriors
looks they playing in outter space
get your heads into the game
Dang, one of our biggies hobbling around.

DEFENSE! again
San Jose State looks like a pretty good team.
Time to show up, guys!
I’m having this flashback to the UNLV game… Come on guys, you’re better than this!
If Pollard is out… we are in for a long night and a game that will be determined by inches. I thnk Faulkner has more passing yards than Moniz, right now.
We gotta stop giving SJ chances. They gaining momentum and turning up their intensity.
Come on D, turn this game around!!
..22 teams you gotta be f*ing kidding me!
wtf kind of tackling was that?

Is this going to be a 2 Timeout ala McMackin Special? hehehehe
Man, forget about the ruts. Just WIN Baby.
Our boys second guessing themselves. They playing not to lose.
lets go D!
264 . . .
Thinking too much.
Ok Eddie, you redeemed yourself on that play.
block da kick!
Gonna dodge another.
To many changes on the o line. just like UNLV
das ok.
Lets go Mo! Show ’em!
Still get chance at 30-14.
Gonna be tough to give up four points, though.
coaches should decide on a line-up and stick to it
I would not feel guilty if we give the defense the Clapp.
Alright, no bombs, short controlled passing game. Oh, and pick up the tempo.
Let’s go Warriors!
Move the ball.
BRS
Here we go!
Yeah.
38 – 10 Pomai
42 – 10 BleedGreen808
45 – 10 Jack Flash
47 – 10 Kapahulu
The bowling ball rolls!
nice run joey!
Did someone cancel the tackling and blocking drills during the bye week? Seems like these guys are getting worse. Still don’t see any real wrap up technique amongst our defenders. Lot of bumping into on defense and slow feet on offense.
Maybe we again took our opponent lightly. Hope not. Better wake up or the outcome will be excuses and what ifs…
Go Mo!
lead ‘en Mo
Protect Mo so he can pass!
3 seconds!
lol another screen
Dang it.
Wow!
problem is the offensive line, they cant protect so rolo can open the playbook
problem is the offensive line, they cant protect so rolo can open the playbook
wth
Side stepped that one.
Got lucky.
The guy didn’t make a play on that ball…It was thrown to him.
hold ’em D!
Not true, he read it well.
Torres- Wea you @!!
Moniz’s pass was offline.
UH is letting SJSU stick around and gain confidence…it looks like a typical dogfight in San Jose between UH and SJSU. I think UH will pull it out, but hopefully no more turnovers like that INT.
Good stop.
ok. good job D!
Aussie! Aussie! Aussie!
Oi! Oi! Oi!
Harding used to that kind of hits . . . without pads.
3-and-out means that the SJSU defense did not get much time to rest. Now is the time for UH’s offense to take over!
way to hold onto the ball
Come on, O!
OK – get it together – and put up some points
we gotta find a way to get Harding into the WR rotation..
come on warriors suck it up and go to battle …….. go fo broke
Run the clock and wear down their D.
Old Diver,
Exactly. It was not read well. What’s his face needed 2 additional steps on the defender in order to even have a chance at catching that ball. That was not well read.
Then again, maybe the WR wasn’t where he was supposed to be? Who knows.
settle down Mo
Clapp has to step in, no?
SJSU is playing inspired ball. We have no tempo on offense. Feels like the offense is sleepwalking. Someone needs to wake them up.
SJSU is playing inspired ball. We have no tempo on offense. Feels like the offense is sleepwalking. Someone needs to wake them up.
Warriors getting out played. Pollard out!
Step up Warriors!!!!!
Harding has no clue what to do. He doesn’t have that instinct to turn it upfield, read blocks and body languages. Doesn’t know how to find holes or exploit seams. Still learning.
He can catch, though.
Oh boy…
Not again!
What the heck?!?!
Moniz had plenty of time on that one.
int
c’mon man
Whatever………
Come on D!!!
lol it is Moniz and national tv
Don’t let this be a “trap” game al mentioned.
SJSU definitely in the game.
We need to stick with the short high-percentage stuff and move those chains. We need to take the momentum back. Can’t let this game get out of hand like UNLV. Can’t give them confidence. Gotta take it back.
Let’s go, Warriors!!!
Wonder what Rolo is thinking?
WTF? I need a drink…
DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!
Watch the play action and pass to that TE!
GJ D
O needs to relax and have fun.
Mo looks stunned.
there goes my first half!
Dunno is stunned was the right word. But definitely not loose.
somebody step up and get the team rolling
One more turnover by Moniz and I’m for changing the QB. Sorry but Moniz’s head is simply not in this game.
41 – 13 mctruck
42 – 13 tom mui
56 – 13 MasaBoy
only 6 down after all the turnovers
Alright, Warriors. Let’s get it together now. Calm down and do what you practice!
it is up to the coaches to not have a Tulsa happen again
@341
Absolutely agree…
Geez.
lol fumble
crap does anyone want to play
someone is not getting a contract extension
I need another drink…
Are we in Vegas?
tulsa and unlv revisited
Ball is In and Out…f-u-m-b-l-e—
Looks like the ball was slipping out before the hit.
Wat the heck are they doing? I came home early to see this?
no fire or desire
41 – 20 WassupDoc
44 – 20 madeinhawaii
Well, history is not on our side.
standing around just standing around
sjsu take it to the warriors
Clapp!!!
Justin! Justin! Justin!
Shake it off and get the job done
Royce Pollard is a WARRIOR…
fumble
Royce wuz down!
lol 5 to’s
i need a drink!
Gotta luv Royce’s effort…
5 to’s and only down by 13 is not bad
Unbelievable!
@368
Have one on me…
Looks like the UW game.
That WAS an ugly half. Pau. Behind us. Past tense. Let’s move forward.
Own da second half.
Let’s go, Warriors!!!
This looks too much like UNLV again… c’mon Warriors.. shake it off.. forget the turnovers and come out fighting!
reminds me more of Tulsa……
Looks like SJSU had an extra helping of tackling classes as they are really killing us. Those turnovers are being caused by some pretty basic tackling/stripping stuff, although that fumble by Harding was just a beautiful tackle attempt that popped the ball.
This looks terrible for UH on national television where there’s no other game to turn to. Sloppy, poor execution…yikes.
Conference realignment is insane.
That may have been the worst half of football I’ve ever seen… 5 turnovers are you kidding me?
Calm down and play Warrior ball, otherwise the players won’t see the Hawaii Bowl turf.
Hawaii didn’t prepare for the speed of SJSU Defensive attack… timing is all off, Moniz is holding on too long. Got to adjust go for the quick patterns.. take what they give you… make them tentative on the blitz.. then go for the occasional deep ones.
The coaches aren’t gonna win this game with halftime adjustments. Some player on offense is going to have to take charge. I just don’t know who that player is.
God…Visions of UNLV all over again. 5 turnovers doesn’t help the cause. Poor tackling, no protection…What the heck did they do during the bye week??? They better get their act together and come out swinging in the second half or it will be a long, long night, week and season….
381 maybe the guys running the routes aren’t giving Moniz the quick targets you suggest. Dang, were Salas and Pilares good.
Okay, 1/2 time…drink up, maybe it’ll help.
Just glad UH is down two possesions. Could be worst.
Let’s go Offense, Defense, and Special Teams!
Too long a break after the last game?
Regroup…
Can still do this!
lets do it coaches make it happen
#386 That would be a good excuse for the Coach Mack Show. Sorry, but these things are becoming too repetitive and the plethera of excuses are just getting tiresome.
Something just ain’t clicking.
@386
We shouldn’t make excuses… right now our guys are just getting beat… Our defense is playing unbelievable… Let’s hope our offense can straighten up…
Good thing SJSU is terrible or the Warriors would be down my 20 at the half.
This is where we see what kind of character this team has. What they do when faced with adversity.
I agree D-1; STILL CAN!!!
@389
We could easily be down 35-7 right now… Our D is keeping us in striking distance…
Pull together, Warriors!
Pull!
Pull!
That was a terrible half.
But, according to UH, not the worst first half.
UH made 6 turnovers in the first half against Tulsa.
@392 & 387
absolutely… We can do this…
Would help if we use another qb
#393 could have been better too as those scoring drives were like a hot knife through butter. Not expecting a stop on every drive but the tackling on those scoring drives were terrible.
Could have been much better.
We can do it,
come from behind victory with a national audience.
GO WARRIORS!!!
Just saw Dunnachie boom a 50-yarder in warmups.
Tomey has to let him kick away. Enough of the rollouts.
Huki Ike Football!
Huki Huki Mai!!
K-nuff, move on…no looking back. play hard and get it done
#395 yes, reminds me of Tulsa game ….
National record for turnovers in a game — 13 in 1951, Georgia/Georgia Tech.
I think enough of the cute stuff, the coaching staff needs to simplify and let the players make plays …
Come on D!
tank is getting picked on again tonight …..
Downtown Aaron Brown!!
Stiffen D!
Get Tuff DB’S! STEP UP!!!
Bachi?
kden now is the is the time to show up
Yahoo!
Finally!
Here We Go!!!!!
I just don’t get the point of the UH commercial played at the half. It doesn’t feature academic opportunities, it doesn’t feature a great college experience, it doesn’t the diverse student body. It reflects UH as a party school, no real point to it. If I was a parent it gives me no reason to send my child to UH. Very poorly done.
oK tURNING pOINT?
fumble baby!
Let’s go Moniz!! Do some damage!!!
Wow.
now is the time to show something let so
make it happened
WHY?
timing of o is way off ….
Why the heck are we still throwing bombs??? Get some first downs and move them sticks!!! Dang it!
so=go
looks like the bye has hurt the timing of the o
were there any adjustments for offense at the half?
Just do not understand going for the long ball.
Trying too much.
the results so far is similar to what the team has done after byes and breaks in previous yes, think bowl games……
Man, defense can keep you in the game, but if the offensive can’t execute when down then you’re hurting.
416: Thank you, Old Diver. My point exactly.
Not having Pollard at 100% is going to kill us… If only Mo can relax get timing right with receivers…
Defense needs to take charge of this game and score themselves!!
can go hurry up? or no can? cause if can lets go! get that rhythm back.
so we gotta blame too long on the mainland and bye week off as problems for being inconsistent…no can be
Maybe the scouts came to see SJSU’s tight end…
Yep, WarriorNY. Pollards injury really screwing up the game plan. but we deep, lets see it!
Hawaii takes it away!
#435,
Lol
What a play! Torres Again!
Yahoo!!!!
CHEE HOO!!!
Now, we need to find and get into a rhythm.
MY BALL!!!!! RAAAAWWWWRRRRRRRRR
LMFAO
Braddah just took the ball away!! Awesome!!

DO something positive with it!
Watch your wallets around Torres!
WTF is up with Moniz?????
Burma Shave…close cuts…almost picked…again
Mo trying too hard?
Stutzman!!!
Stutz!
Play the circus music! Great catch!
sometimes it’s better to be lucky
Time to pull Mo.
What are the chances that everyone accept the team and coaching staff know that the Long Ball is NOT an option.
Dang.
OMG… This is unreal…
wtf!
accept=except shoot
Gawd, time for a QB change?
Plenty of time on that play.
Mo’s head is not in this game… Let’s get Graves in… I hate to say it but damn….
IW . . .
Sadly we understood.
Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha!
Duke iHeNacho daddy.. Moniz has to get used to the speed of this D – like now!
Mo is doing what he always does, he always throws into coverage.
We just keep going for the long ball. Driving me crazy. Get into a rhythm first. Find that groove, then jam it. Right now, we’re sputtering, hoping things will go our way. We gotta make it happen ourselves. Move the dang sticks and keep their offense off the field.
The turnovers HAVE to stop!
Okay it time for a change. Moniz is just not on his game tonight
Earlier in the season, I mentioned Mo should go deep, but I didn’t mean that often. The offense needs to get in a rhythm.
Keep him in…just no more long ones.
Come D!! Just score yourselves!!!
Shane
No short passes working tonight?
I think it is the national tv that messes with his head
torres !!!!!!!
Torres — 3x!!!
Lets put Torres in at every position.
Torres — 3x!!!
Torres — 3x!!!

Torres once again…showing his senior leadership and making plays.
wafan,
we gotta get u in the game! strap it on! haha. jk
This is our Season… We lose this game, it doesn’t matter if we win out, We will live in mediocrity…
lol legay again
My arms are getting tired from throwing them up.
maybe we need to change qbs
Mo still in.
At least he cannot throw way the heck down field this time.
On the other hand, seems he cannot hit the short stuff either.
offside
keep moniz in
Whew!
Hang in there!! No give up!!! Still get chance!!

Oh Miah!
MIAH BABY!
Forget the long ball and go with the short routes.
Good for Miah!
Come on Mo,
Prove me wrong…
Nice move by Miah, too.
Whew…I can take a breath.
You could smell it as everyone breathed a huge Tsai of relief! Ew, who ate garlic?
A win starts with good kick off coverage.
come on special team dont f it up !!!!!!
Good job Miah! Moniz, Please stop telegraphing your throws! Let’s go Defense get the ball back again!
Anyone else notice?
KK signed off and the Warriors scored . . . immediately.
Hmmmmmmmmm.
Now we have a game. To the kitchen for more kalbi and beer. 🙂
short pass, HIT!
W’esside- Sorry. Wuz me.
Our receivers aren’t getting open…
Turnover turnabout
22 teams.. you fricken kidding me? what a mess

Over a quarter to go.
Get chance!
Go Warriors!!!
San Jose playing not to lose!
GO GET UM DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
Edwards.
Close.
Next time.
I gotta say… Though he didn’t come up with that play, Mike Edwards is an unreal CB… Great play on the ball
we need a stop…get the ball back and score
come on parades …. make a play
Moses!
First time I saw us bat down a pass. Love it!
I have a feeling Edwards will have a pick six…
Way to keep the hands up D!
poor tackling
The tackling is sad tonight.
still CAN’T tackle!
Get tough D!
int again!!!!!
INT!
Tackling????? Please stop making them look good. If they all played like Torres we’d probably be winning.
INT
LOVE THAT!
Bwahahahahahah!
interception!!
Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Come on!!@1!!
Hehe, cannot trick the Warriors. Dey too smart!
Hehe, cannot trick the Warriors. Dey too smart!
Let’s go Warriors… We deserve this…
Crazy stats for SJSU this half.
Okay…Moniz should be wamed up and used to the pressure now
Let’s Go O!
Come on Warriors!!
Still Can!!
Glad I not cheering for SJSU
MONIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!

Here we go!!!
Iosefa! Yeah, baby!!!
TD!!!!!!
I’d say an explicit word but I think ST will ban me for a month… I’m just gonna say Hell Yes… !!!!!
That is why you leave Moniz in!!!!!
Are the Mo’s guns finally targeted in?
Okay, I was wrong. Moniz came alive. Nice run, and the guys was right, Pollard made that run.
Auryte!
Psychologically, it’s setting in for SJ. They’re thinking, “Oh nooooo… not again….”
Kenton Chun…nice kicks right down the middle of the posts tonight
Tully ow?
590- Buffo- Das OK bull! We just gotta stick together!! We no Give Up!!!
The energy that Coach Tuiotu brings to the sidelines as a coach is worth the salary. He is awesome.
Kawika,
Das SLC giving Hawaii da lead.
In a team game that is how it should be
this game reminds me of the 2007 in the mud game
Who was that classless UH fan giving the obscene gesture in the stands on national TV. No aloha and no class brah…
Is it just me but do these officials like us?
Wait.
3 straight PAT’s.
No blocks.
Whoo-hoo!!!
601 . . .
No.
Hope Koakane enjoys the replay. 😆
HA!
I like that Tomey stopped the sky kick offs
SJ playing not to lose!!
GO WARRIORS!!!
Hawai’i fans are loud and clear!
Defense!
Defense!
Defense!
Come on WARRIORS! 4th Q
Let’s Go Warriors!
what are our odds when we lead at the end of the third?
need another TO
603, okay, but thoose in the scrum calls would usually go against us. Hey, I even think the announcers like us.
15 minutes to glory.
Well, Phase 1, anyhow.
My sis is waving ti leaves that JD handed out.
I hope she can catch some Tsaikos who are sitting around her.
GO WARRIORS!!!
The look on Mac’s face makes me think it was hot and toasty in the locker room at halftime. Fire ’em up Macky!
599-postmanke: it was because of that game SJ has a nice field.
Hope they thanked JJ for bemoaning them in the media. =)
14-0 3rd quarter…just when the Warriors needed it most they pulled out enough turnovers, overcame their mistakes, and went from 13 points down to 1 point ahead. Great job Warriors!
614 . . .
I think so, too. They were seriously pro-us in the beginning and preshow.
Still talking positive.
no nuff. go sommoa.
Come on D we need a TO!!
The announcers have been pretty fair on their calls. A little bit more for Hawaii.
smelling a sack
Come on D!!! Gut Check!!
Lets Do This!!
Where is Torres?
We need another turnover.
Heck, give Edwards a chance, too.
Gotta stuff that run.
ahh parades name is finally called
Someone tackle MacIntyre and strip him of that dam~ coin!
get up Aaron
Small owie, please for Brown.
629 . . .
Kinda weird how fixated the ESPN guys are on that coin and Mac’s rubbing of it.
just add the other 6 teams and make em 28 already.. nuts!
Which team really wants the game!
632 hahaha…I think I am too now!
Brown and Pollard will be huge losses… let’s hope they can recover.. nah we know they will recover — they are Warriors…
can you smellllllll what the defffffense is cooookkinnnnnggg
3 sacks tonight…
who is mia tonga?
chee hoooooooooooooooooooooo!
INT again!!!
Yea baby, Edwards is the true CB!
I predicted a Mike Edwards Pick!!!!!~
sweet
The leadership is coming from the defense.
Rolo relax, no need go long.. no neeeed!
@627 Your wish is granted.
646 Yeah…bleed ’em to death with the short passes.
There you go. Thank goodness SJSU is as bad as they are.
Gosh.
Went shi-shi and missed the Edwards int.
Knew he would get one!
The ball looked about 3 inches above the turf. It’s good!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!~
TD, Iosefa!,,,
Maybe need to go shi-shi more often.
Kinda like Liz.
TD bowling ball!!!
San Joey Iosefa University!
Joey on the way to the end zone: “Excuse me. Pardon me.”
Oh man!
special team f up again !!!!
As much as I like Tomey, I think we need a real special teams coach.
TD
Special teams meltdown again.
Dang.
2nd time this season.
Broke two tackles. That was determination.
SPECIAL teams
Hawaii must own the all-time record for giving up 2 pts on blocked extra points. Without a doubt.
We really got to get our Special Teams sorted out… This is ridiculous…
wafan…have another beer for the team please.
Is this crazy? Another blocked kick?
Hmmmmm. That guy pulled his hammie.
How much of a difference will that make?
Same side of the o line on previous blocks
It sure looked as though it took too long to get the kick off
that was worth 2 points… hope he’s out.. but only for this game.. my favorite Safety in college ball not wearing a Warrior uniform
Through the line this late in the season?
One more turnover for the D, please.
This time they need to return it for the TD.
tackling
The momentum is completely on the side of the Warriors now…pour it on while they are reeling. Great TD by Iosefa!
too much yards
hate to say it but parades is getting owned on passing routes tonight
Turf did a great job of tackling him!
Go turf!!!
First 2-pt defensive conversion in SJSU history…not the type of history UH wants to set. Still, at least UH has the lead. The special teams problems have to get fixed, it is way too late in the season for this to keep happening!
Hawai’i fans making noise!
good stop
NO WAY!!!
Whoo-hoo!!!
bwhahahahaha
Here we gooooooo!!!
Whew
That was a beautiful tackle by Sellers. That saved us some points.
Huzzah for the wind!
Wish I went to this game instead of UNLV.
Good job Boys! Let’s go O, FINISH!!!
Nothing conservative.
Don’t play not to lose.
Systematic.
Right down the field.
Score!!
Time for the offense to finish this.
They all need to tackle like our d-line and Mr. Sellers. Torres plays big, too bad that guys is not 6’2″.
Townieboy . . .
Mac is rubbing his coin.
Gonna rub a hole in it soon.
hoping Duke iHeNacho Daddy is out. That would be like Pollard being out – psyche wise
Solid play.
Systematic!
Way to get the 1st down!
That was a big stop
wafan — are you working on that next bathroom break? We need a TD!!!
You can see it in SJ. They’re reeling.
Losing fight.
GO for the Jugular!
Give it to the truck.
Iosefa in BEAST MODE!
We need some points here! Let’s go WWarriors!
who said Iosefa wasnt agile? long time waiting… fun to watch
A-joe . . .
You were right!
BSU and AFA are staying in the MWC. No word from the other UH (them) and SMU.
Maybe the ulta-conference idea is growing on them?
That leaves the Big East in a tenuous position.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.
if anyone had any doubt about our toughness this season…. You should not have any doubt right now.. Let’s go Warriors!
Big East going down. Sort of. They’ll lose they’re AQ status. MWC/CUSA will get it.
Come on Warriors!! Hang Tuff!!!
Defending WAC Champions – no doubt
lol rolo got to cute ….
no fg pleaseeeeeee
Mo staying in.
Shovel pass?
Option?
Wow, no confidence in the kicking game.
noooo, no FG
I stopped breathing again
If Moniz going stay in, don’t second guess! Go ALL IN!!
Hmmmm…wonder what the spread was? FG covers?
Where’s Dan Kelly when you need him?
COme ON!!!
c’mon Hadden!

Uh-oh.

PATHETIC
OMG
Step up big D!
Nevermind!!

Next play pass!!
Look alive DB’s!!
YAAAAAAAAAY!
Unbelieveable!
Even turnovers!

parades
Unbelieveable
CHEE HOO!!
Boy…this doesn’t look like real Div I football…
Lady Luck on our side on that play. Amen
need one TD
SEAL DA DEAL!!!
lol peredes got owned but he came back to strip the ball
PAREDEMEDIC!!
I’ll take our D any day vs the kick team… no more field goals rest of the season!
Defending WAC Champions – No Doubt!
Should I say it. No more fG’s for this game.
We only need 1st downs…
Now is not the time to tie the all time NCAA turnover record of 13 in a game.
Let SJSU turn it over again after out TD!
Seniors stepping it up big time.
‘Atta way!
better challenge that spot.. if no get em
Nice shovel pass bad spot!
Nice shovel pass bad spot!
come on special teams dont f it up!!!!
Employ the Tampa 2 now.
D can’t play too conservative here….
Thought he reached for it.
Oh well.
suffocate dem!!
those NFL scouts.. Dunnachie?
can’t make the 1st downs whenwe need em
Get another turnover, D!!!
Pick 6 please…
scary!
Almost.
A sack would be nice.
middle of the field is open
Mike edwards!!!!
Need a turnover!
D gotta press hard! WE CAN DO IT!!!!!
HOLD ‘EM D!!!
TD
Dang it!
Well and thats that.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWW
Dang it!
FUDGE!!!!
Brought pressure too late.
looks like special team cost the team the game
dayahmn……was afraid of that
Shades of 2009.
Block um run um back!
Unbelivable! God, I need s drink!
i like the aggressive gamble but… damn!
Intercept! Run it back!!
Return the kickoff for a TD.
Stop them!
Only a miracle…
3 timeouts
OK Still get chance!!
Maja Gut Check Time!!
Special teams has a chance to make up and win the game.
still can
There is still 36 seconds left…the game is NOT over.
Come on, Warrior O!
Wow, we’re terrible in special teams. We lost because of special teams play? Crazy.
John Veneri wanted UH to go for 7 inches instead of punting
thereby know that you won the game…
Here we go!!
I love this!!!
Okay, I need to logg off and seek therapy.
LET’S GO WARRIORS!
Move the ball, O!
YEEEEEEHAAAWWW!!!!
This is going to be glorious!!!!
Come on Shoko!! Still get chance!!
Those short gains will not get UH anywhere near FG range…it might not even get UH into range for a hail mary into the end zone.
There’s doubt in SJ!!
They second guessing!!
Dang, no need go shi-shi.
So close to Pollard…UH somehow got a WR open downfield.
NO GIVE UP!!!
FIGHT TO THE END!!!
we suck
LOL, Hawaii just lost to San Jose State. Probably the all time choke that I have ever seen Hawaii do….
Pathetic……
GO WARRIORS!
Well, still got your back, Warriors. Come home and heal up.
Talking cra p about other conferences when your own team would be no better than a middling team in that conference is sad. Warrior fans need to worry about their own weak team which will be a bottom feeder in the MWC/CUSA.
we gave this one away, and SJSU made the plays when it counted. not anything special about the special teams at this point…. long flight home…..too bad
Shucks.
Coach might have just sealed the deal on his contract
Someting caught in your throats Warriors?
I’m gonna go crwl in a hole for a spell….Tsaighhh
No joy in the Aloha state tonight
Ugliest game ever…
They fought to the end.
Dang it.
Special teams are just plain killing us this year.
Hard pill to swallow but, we lose together!
I have to laugh, how can they go into LTech and win and then come to the laughing stock of the WAC, San Jose State, who couldn’t be Radford on a good day and choke like a fat woman on a leg of lamb?
Coach Mack might just be out the door.
Townieboy- I’ve seen worse
don’t mean to be negative, but can someone give me some positive take aways from this game so that rancid taste of defeat will leave my mouth…… really, what are the positives on this game that UH should have won handily….
Arggh, just going sleep with tanking a botle of Jack Daniels.
The defense was awful on SJSU’s last drive.
no Worries… the WAC Championship has not been settled, not even close.
Vaugh Meatonga and Aaron Brown and Torres played great defense.
No shame.
I am in shock now. ESPN game with recruits there and watching on TV.
That 2pt play for SJSU off the blocked extra point gave them their first defensive score off an extra point in their history…and was the difference in the game.
Blocked XP. Blocked FG. Gave away points on an XP. Lost by 1. #$%@!
SJSU was trying to give away the game in the second half–so many turnovers, you could tell they didn’t really know how to win and they didn’t believe. UH believed, but special teams let them down.
How will this affect the home attendance for the next game…I hope that the fans show up but past history isn’t pretty about some of the less devoted fans.
A-Joe, i agree, Special Teams hurt us pretty bad tonight, along with a myriad of other things….
UH needs to stay in the WACK!
not enough alcohol in hawaii to ease the pain from this loss
With the amount of turnovers we gave up, our Defense played tough. Still gave up way too many long, key 3rd down conversions. But, they mostly held tough. Tackling was sloppy on those big plays, though.
Joey Isofa was a beast…
Kicking game sucks!!!!
Corey Paredes had 10 tackles to lead the defense…
Sorry guys but I think we should let Dick Tomey go! Special teams is pathetic!
FIRE DICK TOMEY!!! How many times have FG/PAT’s been blocked up the middle? It cost UH the game tonight. If a kick gets blocked from the outside that’s fine. Up the middle is unacceptable, even at the HS level. The guards just need to pinch down and hold their ground. They are not doing that or being taught that. it’s not rocket science.
Recruiting gonna be hurt.
we still cheer for our boys..but sheesh, coaches, something has to give……
Way to battle WARRIORS! You truly are WARRIORS!
Congrats to SJSU!
Three words…Special Teams Coach.
It’s a team game. Trying to find solace in a few good individual efforts when the team stunk the joint out is pitiful.
Auwe.
What hurt the D tonight was the back and te against our lB……..
This is the time we see our character as fans.
Lose with class and pride.
Our men fought a good battle. Despite all the mistakes, They never gave up!
Proud of them!
I might be in S. Korea, but I can smell the stink all the way over here..
San Jose State? Really coach? Really?
Iosefa looked good, bouncing off of those would-be tacklers on his runs. He tried stretching for that last first down. So close…
Is it time to retire Mc?
I think they should have rush 3 and drop eight
I can’t get over how we simply played uneven ball. The lack of any consistency made for those unnecessary turnovers and what can one say “Special team?” They are in special need of special coaching because their playing is “specially” bad.
I hate this.
I can just hear Mack saying oh, we need to do better on special teams, and yadda, yaddda, yadda, until the next game and another special team craziness.
We have no excuses for this. Oline was bad, Special teams stank in the end… We need a new game plan. We can’t depend on those two units to be consistent enough to win consistently.
The fish stinks from the head down. Tomey is low hanging fruit and the buck stops with Mack.
I long for the days of hearing gasps (of awe…not awwwwww) when UH kicked the ball.
I feel bad for the D. They played a hell of a game tonight.
Got it right, A-joe. They fought to the end.
855 . . .
Absolutely.
The kicking team really hurt us. I also thought we should have gone for the first down on 4th and inches deep in our territory. The first half turnovers put us in a hole too.
I should clarify….The field goal unit was bad in the end…they couldn’t catch up to a guy with a charlie horse?
Maybe Tomey made a deal with San Jose State huh?
The man should coach pee-wee
Mac doesn’t have to retire, just accept a deep pay cut and
can Dick Tomey…tonight.
Lift one for Iosefa…that boy came ALIVE tonight! Loved watching him plow that field.
I’d bet that those Warrior recruits from Cali that were at the game tonight ended the game on the SJSU sideline.
Oh Boy! Memories of Las Vegas. That was terrible to witness.
The guys on D played hard, I give them a lot of love for that. Torres is da man.
Its whoever was calling that soft @ss defense at the end that hurt us big time too.
Aranda, you stunk it up. AUWE!
The coaching staff need to face reality.
wafan stayed watching ………….mmmmmmmmmmmm
d1 will not bother watching replay
Anyhow, the Warriors fought back and took the lead.
Just got screwed by ????
37 seconds left and what do the coaches do? Throw 10 yard passes. With 3 time outs left. What did San Jose do without timeouts? Throw it down the middle.
I blame Mack. The D’ played outstanding with all the time they had to spend on the field.
Just pathetic coaching…
We have the worst special teams that I have ever seen. Not just in Hawaii History, but at the college level. There is no excuse to be that bad. None. We need a complete overhaul.
We ride or die with the Warriors! But something needs to change! Proud of the D for keeping us in the game! Tackling was poor but it was great to see inspired play by Torres, Meatoga, Edwards, and Paredes. Hope the O gets back into sync next game. I’ll pray for a miracle with our special teams!
Go Warriors!
Tomey got to go. He is jus not cutting it. These problems should have been fixed along time ago. Wats da next excuse? Blame da players again? Smh idk……..
Very disapointing.
I’ve always hated the “Protect” defense. We’ve always gotten burned by it from as far back as I can remember.
Bring back Von Appen!!!!!!
864: UH took LV cheap. Tonight, UH was in a drawn out sloppy dog fight. Just came up short.
Got to give the San Jose players credit.
Hope they win the rest of their games.
And University of Hawaii, too…………..
That was an awful game of turnovers on both sides. Still some bright spots on the team.
Who you gonna root for? You still need to support the team. Still gotta believe. I do!
Healing energy to those who are banged up and in general to the whole team.
Keep working at it. Lots to evaluate.
Next!
Warriors need a better coaching staff, top to bottom, if they want a prayer of competing in their new conference. They can barely compete in the WACK. The way they look this season they need to schedule more Cal-Davis and Coastal Carolinas.
Ya I got to agree. Worst special teams in da country. should be getting better not worse!!!!
Amazing D overall – Torres gets the game ball.
Offense was horrendous except for Iosefa, Pollard and Stutz.
Special Teams… how can we a) still not have a kicker who can make a field goal farther than 30 yards out and b) not be able to make PATs automatic and c) have five blocked kicks in nearly as many games?
CHANGE IS NEEDED.
I know the 37,000 turnovers didn’t help. But the D kept us in the game in the 1st half and got us back in the game in the 2nd. And the O scored when they had to. Yes, mistakes were had all around. Yes, I know the idiom that no game is won or lost on a single play.
But not this one.
This one hurt.
Because even if we failed a 2 pt. conversion, the score would be 27-27 and we’d all be watching overtime right now and screaming for Moniz to stay on target.
But that didn’t happen.
We lost.
By one point.
Because of a returned PAT.
Change is needed. And needed now.
Right now would not extend Mac’s contract
tough loss….i still think we have a good football…this lost doesnt feel as bad as the unlv one.san jose played hard and so did we
I tend to disagree. The d did play well in spots, but great defenses play well all of the time. The o line is not good. When they can put pressure on our QB with just a three man rush, that does not say much about our o-line.
How can a special team unit be sooooooooooo badddddddd? I just cannot get over how slowly our kickers kick and how poorly our line blocks.
This was the last straw…it is time for McMackin to be let go. Maybe (okay, this is unrealistic) Mike Stoops will take the job.
There were plenty of plays that you can point to that cost the Warriors the game. Focusing on the blocked PAT is lame.
Amazing D??? Shoot, SJSU handed the D the ball.
865 – that was a bad ball spot on that Iosefa 3rd down run. He reached, 1st down, should have been over… Moniz trying to run the clock down on 2nd down was a Whimp-ass call. dont put pressure on the D to win the game when they battled their asses off the whole game..
brilliant Defense, yep we got burned on a aggressive play on D in the end. Love that shit! We keep going at it like that on D, we win more than we lose.
Smh……
Tomey was a great coach for us and I am grateful for all he has done. But I think that he should resign. Really.
Bad news for the SJSU George guy. He did not invent or create the wave. It really did start here in Seattle at a UW game.
Coaching in the end was pathetic…play calling, time management, etc. Need serious assessment of the entire staff. I feel for the players.
One more issue before I go sleep…
Our offense starts off slow and out-of-sync more times than not. We need to establish rhythm earlier and quicker in the game.
What is Jason Elam doing these days? Our kickers need to get stronger. Also, just wondering… is our timing on field goals and extra points too slow? Are we allowing too much time, which is leading to the line breaking down, which then leads to those blocks?
Keep knocking the Big Least lol. As desperate as they are they wouldn’t resort to accepting a team the caliber of this years Warriors.
Did anyone else have problems with ESPN 1400? Kept shutting itself off.
Nytal!
886: Postmanke- EXACTLY! Iosefa made the first down. The first official picked up the ball and marked it back to his left foot which was on the line. He tosses the ball to the other official who marks it another foot back. We lost a whole yard on that one spot.
Oh well, you play with what cards your dealt with.
I’m still proud of our boys efforts. They never gave up!
Awesome!!
So, who’s still in favor of extending Mack???
Wot happened?
1:46 to go and UH goes into a “prevent” except San Jose did not get the word – seems like the secondary went into a “play not to lose mode”.
but give San Jose credit that they went nearly 80 yards to score – wonder what instructions Miano gave to the DBs? seems the “picket fence” theory was not effective tonight.
must give UH credit for coming from behind to take the lead only to lose it with 37 seconds left in the game.
funny, it’s very disappointing, but not as bad as UNLV.
Coaches are not the problem. As John McKay once said, the game is played by people. Their people played better than our people
886 I agree. That was a terrible call for Moniz. Rolo should have given him the green light to try a quick pass if that was the case. Chock?
888 I agree. Tomey should just say, I’m not motivating these guys, I will retire and simply volunteer where and when desired. And we should let him ride into the sunset.
Our d line is just fine. Our LBs take bad angles at times. Our d-backs need better coaching and the tackling is just not that good.
Moniz is a gamer, even when he’s not doing well (I was wrong). Iosefa is getting better. Notice how he’s holding the ball now… much better.
I still love the team, I’m just not convinced they’ve been given the best chances to be prepared to win.
886 – I agree about the spot. It warranted a look. Iosefa’s forward progress got him farther, initially…way before he went down.
I think we were too passive on our play calls with 2:35 left.
I do agree with kicking it. 4th and 1 on our 40 is suicide. Even Belichick with the Patriots D lost a game that way.
I don’t know why we were throwing 10 yard passes and not getting our guys out of bounds sooner.
Not being able to kick a field goal longer than 30 yards made it nearly impossible to drive down enough of the field in the last :35.
another knife thru the heart, what else is there to say
U got to look at da special teams. Its wat cost us da game. Its nit lame.
Losses hurt. But as Mack will say “our goals are still in reach, win the WAC and go to a bowl game.” Eight games left.
It’s been mentioned many times over what areas need improvement. One area no one has mentioned is the DBs got to improve their tackling. We really lack a hammer back there. Not only this game but it seems once a runner clears the line or a receiver catches the ball in space, the DBs aren’t physical enough to make a good hit. Too many broken arm tackles. Too much YAC given up by the back end.
On the conversion, the kicker got to kick a higher ball!!!!!! Even the good conversion, the kick is too LOW, just like a 35-40 yard field goal. On a conversion, even if the blocker sneaks through the line, a high kick will make it over the high hands. Auwe!!!!!!
OUCH! No can sleep tonight. What a nightmare!
I feel for Tomey – one of the best motivators in his prime. seems more mental breakdown then technique at this point.
Cannot believe we are getting kicks blocked up the middle for 3+ games now. Linemen should be stepping toward the Center and firing into the d-lines groin. D-Line hands would not be up trying to block the kick but down trying to protect themselves. It would be impossible to have linemen squeezing between blocks stepping toward the Center. Chances of blocking from corners are slim. I love Coach Tomey but this is so basic.
The Defense played great except for the last drive but they played their heart out an geserve credit! But Our Offense once again ON NATIONAL TV showed up to little to late. BUT THE KEY PROBLEM was an is this season SPECIAL TEAMS! I love Coach tomey an I think we should keep him but maybe not as SPECIAL TEAMS coach we need someone who can get this straigtened out Coach Mac’s hot seat is getting hotter but dont cut the lose ends on him yet! 2 games they SHOULD’VE WON! Have turned out different but I think UNTIL they fix the special teams problem then this team cant elevate themselves to higher expectations just yet! The Defense got the memo they were playmakers in the 2nd half but the offense has shown in little bits they can be playmakers but special teams arent even close to many errors! Everyone needs to re-evaluate! But I REFUSE TO GIVE UP ON COACH MAC AN THE PLAYERS OUR WARRIORS 6 games are done were 3-3 we have 7 GAMES LEFT PEOPLE! But Our Offense has to show that mojo from La Tech, Our Defense has that bend but dont break mentality I think our defense is Good an sometimes great but to much arm tackling being broken which leads to big plays, an our Special Teams is “Horrendous” our kicker at college level cant kick 40 yards in college anything between 35-40 is supposed to be automatic.
dilution added to more dilution = BCS AQ?
Bye weeks not good for our type of offense. Even that break before bowl games seem to hurt our rhythm. Our special teams coach must be on vacation. Sad loss for our Warriors. The defense came to play. Our special teams handed the game to SJS. When a team plays this bad this far into the season our head coach is not making the grade. How many kickers are we going to take on the next road trip?
How come last year UH Warriors led the nation or almost did
in special teams play?
Maybe they shouldn’t show the Nevada game on ESPN.
Why does Tomey have to be a paid assistant? Always thought with all the money he made being head coach for YEARS at Hawaii, Arizona, and San Jose, along with time in San Fran and Texas, he could, well, volunteer. Heck, he’s taking up a position that a young and up and coming coach typically takes. Thought this when he was hired…and obviously he ain’t nothing special as special teams coach. Either other teams got super studs coming out the middle on kicks or Hawaii doesn’t know how to keep them out.
Cont. I was a student worker in the late 80’s when retired postal worker Ben Yee was a volunteer (and still is?), Again, Tomey taking a paid position, when is likely very comfortable in finances…and the special teams sucks…he doesn’t look like he has the fire needed to be a motivating special teams coach as well.
OK I say Coach Mack takes care of Special Teams – just for 1 week.. we can stop the leak
If I were younger I’d be super pissed. It seems I’ve mellowed with age. After a loss there’s no sense in pointing fingers at players or coaches cause they might be the same people you’ll be patting on the back after a win. I have a one hour rule. The game is over nothing can change the outcome just look forward to the most importnat game of the season, the next game.
For those who want to vent, consider how badly we looked on National TV, again.
Come home.
Regroup!
We go at again next week!
for block kicks you can scheme, tweak how they line up etc but it is up to the players to make the plays. What can tomey do if our guard gets beat to a inside move? On kick protection you block from inside out, you should never get beat from the inside. It happened cause our guy got beat, so why blame the coach? What can tomey do on the kickoff return that the returner fumbled on a good tackle by the defender?
That was a good game. We lost but played to the end. The boys didn’t give upafter the bad first half. It is not the end of the world it is just a game.
911 that was a fluke as our special teams last year was maybe just a tad better than we are this year….both pretty pathetic.
We win this game, the WAC championship as ours alone is in our grasp. We loose this one now the best that can happen is a bunch of things that would cause others to loose two and we win out to be sole winners. We win out, and SJSU looses one, the best we can do is tie.
So we win out and kiss our sister as coWAC champions. I guess that’s better than being second or worse…that is if we win out.
With the inconsistent play, it’s difficult to say with any level of certainty that we have a better than average shot at winning out. Not dissing the team, just stating the obvious.
It’s difficult to accept a loss. I understand everyone is venting their frustrations. Keep in mind, you still a have a choice what you say.
Express yourself. But, choose wisely. Coaches, players, their family and friends do read this blog.
Special teams needs an extreme make over but where was darius bright all game? Just a question. Figure there had to be another big body fast reciever to step up instead of bright playing hurt. We could have lost him for the season.
I agree. We don’t show up when we play on espn.
Former Huskies linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator Chris Tormey is the now linebackers coach at Washington State after spending two seasons as the special teams coach at Hawaii. He did pretty well with Hawaii special teams last year…
On the fourth and less than 1/2 yard, they should have at least lined up, try to draw an offsides, and possibly give more time for a review of the spot. Then they should have called a timeout and gone for it.
Poor OL play, poor tackling and now poor special teams have become a staple for the Warriors. Mac and his staff have not gotten the job done in terms of recruiting or coaching and it ultimately falls on Mac’s shoulders. Let’s hope that the bridge back to the WACK conference hasn’t been burned because they will not be able to compete at the next level.
On third down second to last drive, when they were at the 20, they just needed a field goal. The play should have been a run to the center of the field. The loss of yardage on the attempted trick play lengthened the kick and resulted in a low kick that was blocked.
Hello, my name is Indigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die!
Hmmmm, “Back to the Wack” is kind of catchy. I’m claiming royalty rights to the t-shirts.
Aw heck, hope coach Tomey puts some love and imua into the
future games and helps coach Mac beat June Jones in the Hawaii
Bowl. Good night. It is just a game. And we all are just one
heart beat away from meeting our Maker. There are greater
things to concentrate on.
But once again Hawai’i was unprepared on National Tv an has played sloppy! The Defense Bent but didnt break. But everyone forgot that San Jose St has the most takeaways in the WAC so dont blame it all on our players maybe San Jose made those plays! Everyone’s saying bench mo an fire mac i say we have 7 GAMES LEFT! Despite how they played in UNLV and how they played today we watch an see how they play in the next 7 but I think we need to acclimate to the situation! We need to realize our offense isnt as dynamic as last years team, our Defense has big play capability but it also goes BOTH WAYS! Our Special Teams isnt quite special an if anything has been more trouble than not! I still say keep your eyes on Coach Mac but dont put the boot to him yet. Our players were told to be PLAYMAKERS an some got it an some didnt we see it with Sampson going up for passes, Stutsman now lowering the head our db’s jumping routes now! I think our team needs to come together as a TEAM! An If Hawai’i wants to be on the same level as the Boise St’s of the world then they need to be well prepared, execute, an they need to be at their BEST EVERY GAME dont just show up an play great against a UC Davis but they need to play good no matter who they play an the problem is in spurts they do play great against teams but they need to do it consistently! But this is football upsets happen, big plays happen, mistakes happen both ways we make it an sometimes we have to take it. I’ll keep cheering on our boys and DESPITE MOST PEOPLE I’LL KEEP CHEERING OUR COACHES HOPING they turn it around!! An PROVE people wrong! Go Warriors
still smiling at 6 defensive turnovers 2nd half. If I’m the defense, I cant wait to play next week! If I’m special teams I’m saying please make the 1st down, please 1st down, please…. awhh sh*t, we gotta go in..
I dunno, maybe can get Anthony Robbins to pep chat to the team next week? Special Teams players all good enough to play but they gotta just be mentally beat up.. Didnt Robbins speak to one of Tomey’s teams at Aloha Staduim in the 80’s?
Can’t coach Shaw teach how to block on PAT’s or is he helping already ?
As someone mentioned, better to have tried for a 2 point conversion instead of trying to kick that PAT. At least you would not have given up the two points.
SMU held open casting calls for a kicker recently right?
Maybe we should consider the same. Might not be the kindest thing, but what is the alternative? 6 games in and its still not solved.
929 I don’t think that the folks at BSU “hope they turn things around”. They appear to have a coaching staff (from the time of Dan Hawkins) who know what it takes to be consistent. They practice it and it shows. And consistency gives a team the best opportunity to win.
We don’t seem to have that in place so hoping is an alternative.
The defense did indeed break when it counted the most. It’s a good thing they don’t play in the Big Least, as some here call it, because they’d be getting spanked even worse.
Do not be angry at Moneyz. Just bet on the home team on the Mainland and Hawaii at home and you will be happy.
facts, facts, facts.
coach mac has never won a game after trailing at halftime while the head coach at UH. UH has never won on national tv on the road. looks like loss#4 will be at reno, and hopefully espn doesn’t pick up the idaho game.
the offensive skill players should do grass drills every day after practice so they can get the same kind of workout they put on the defense.
time to make a change at kick returner. give sampson, moe, and curly a try because mike is not effective. he was lucky in the opener.
why can’t estes be used as the kicker on kick offs?
the o-line did pretty good.
and damn, austin couldn’t catch a guy running on 1 leg. that’s what happens when you play in hawaii, too much rice, too much mac salad, and too much gravy. most of the team is a little slow. they need to follow the work ethic of guys like richard, miah and mo. if all the starters would train hard in the off season, they would be better athletes.
Wonder what Coach Anae is doing…
was haku used on the line for extra points? really don’t understand why they can’t block anybody on the pat’s.
never should give a skolie to an incoming freshman kicker. no matter what his rank is.
#937 you mean kale? because its ane, and charlie is not available.
936…and practice tackling, please and while they are at teaching fundamentals, footwork for the o-line. They play like their feet are in quicksand.
The special teams didn’t do enough positive things to make up for their mistakes.
The offense has sputtered against good teams this year as well as last year, lacks senior leadership and plays with no fire. I normally never question the play calling but throwing long incompletions is a drive killer when your QB is not playing well. Match that up with short sideline passes with a ton of yards to go and seconds to play is a head scratcher. While the o-line could do a better job blocking Moniz was not under pressure for the interceptions or fumble. This adds up to unhappy fans.
The defense almost filled the hole the offense dug. The senior leadership is evident by their never give up attitude.
I’m still a Warrior fan and will be at the games.
Call out to all full-time UH Manoa Students: Kicking Tryouts this Monday, 3:00 at Ching Field. Must not have graduated from high school earlier than 2007.
(Nah, just joking). It’s been done before at other D-I schools.
Hats off to the defense. How many times can you give the offense an opportunity to score?
I think that the offense is very mild mannered, plays with no sense of urgency, and very easy going, just like the coordinator Nick Rolovich. Nothing personal against him, as he’s a nice guy. May have been too early to put him in charge of the offense at such a young age and level of inexperience (UH being his first full-time coaching job at the D-I level).
In the old days, offensive coordinators use to threaten to move under performing players over to the defense. Seemed to have motivated more than a few offensive players.
Defense sucked it up and put in a good performance. Offense, tried to do too much and then too little in the end… they never got in synch and were mediocre at best. After picking up some steam, when Pollard pulled his ham string, our Offense really fizzled. Special teams, except for the the PAT and field goal team, did okay. Players weren’t getting separation. Moniz was over throwing the ball… nobody settled down so SJSU decided to catch the ball for us.
Is Rollo’s luck running out?
#919
A-joe I’m going to distract everyone’s attention from my venting and criticize that poorly make UH commercial again. 🙂
Oline… wasn’t there again. I swear I didn’t see a pocket for most plays and it didn’t seem like SJSU was blitzing all that many as there were a lot of players covering our receivers. If we can’t protect the QB and give him time to make his reads and deliver the ball for the RnS, AND if our receivers cannot get the separation they need in the RnS… we need to have a different play book.
I was more disappointed in this game than the UNLV game simply because I thought they learned their lesson at UNLV and were going to be really fired up for this one. I don’t know if it was the players attitudes or coach’s but I didn’t feel any sense of urgency at the beginning of this game.
Ever since the sugar bowl hawai’i fans have gotten more CRITICAL an It’s good to want success but I think everyone remembers June Jones for his last 2 years of great amazing UH football but people have forgetten the bad times remember in 04 when we lost to FLORIDA ATLANTIC an were put in a position were we had to win 4 in a row to go to the Hawai’i bowl an that season we were (4-4) in conference play an during the 2004 season, after negotiating a contract with a $800,016 annual salary making him the highest-paid public employee in the state, he faced discontent from fans, faculty, and news reporters about his struggling team, or 05 when we went 5-7. June Jones was here since 99-07 after 8 seasons in the Wac we finished 4th in 2001&2003; 5th in 04&05; 6th in 2000 But the thing I understand is that from the 9 seasons Coach Jones was here we had a winning record in 7 of those years. But We have mostly lost 4 or 5 games in most seasons under Coach Jones 6 season 4 or more losses! Now The other thing to look at is Coach Jones was 4-1 in bowl games an THAT is what I think most fans remember him for not the regular season things or the games they play during the Jones era an what do we get from the Mcmackin era we get consistent loses at the end of a season! In the span of 9 years Coach Jones has won 2 wac championships 1 outright an the other co champs we have won 1 wac title with Mcmackin I think Coach Mac teams need to always finish strong to keep the buzz alive an the problem during his era is at the end of every season they get blown out! There are still 7 games left we can still go 10-3 highly unlikely but people need to stop blowing things outta proportion
#943
I hear what you are saying Old School Dave. The R&S is an attacking offense which creates opportunities. Can’t play like nice guys.
Offensively and in Special teams, we need help fast.
Okay.. I’m done venting.. going shower and watch some korean drama on the computer.. night all!
SJSU defense is fast, physical with some NFL talent. I give them credit
Lose $$$…….all show for nothing
Mack is a rip off, UHAD deserves better.
Pomai,
59 – 28 Hawaii
Congratulations Wahine!
All i’m gonna say about special teams… Usually, the #1 motivation or rule for a player is not to disappoint your position coach. not sure whats going on, but something is not going on..
I give the Warriors no betta than a 50% shot to go 4-3 over their remaining games to eke out a 7-6 record to qualify for the bowl.
Here’s the thing. When we had Von Appen we knew what we had and we hoped it would get better. Everyone hated loosing but we went and we cheered.
Here, there is a roller coaster and that is what is so distressing. No we don’t want the Von Appen era to return. What is so distressing to many of us is the inconsistency and promises that things are going to improve.
I guess we could be happy going 7 and 6 every year and play in the Hawaii Bowl but that will soon get boring. I don’t think we expect to be undefeated, although we’d love it. What we want is some level of consistent play where fundamentals are demonstrated in blocking and tackling (like those upper tiered teams). So if we loose to a team that out played us, well we did not so much loose as they beat us and there is not real sin in doing that. But our recent losses have been due to our inability to execute fundamental football techniques and that is wht has been very distressing.
BTW, it used to dive us nuts with Coach Jones when his special teams and defenses were less than sound and his attitude seems to be well we’ll just outscore them. SEC teams like LSU and Bama execute in all phases and they are fun to watch…win or loose.
LOve UH, just don’t enjoy the inconsistency and being told that it’s all okay.
An everyone isnt giving creidt to San Jose they played well enough! Our Boys played well espically Richard torres! Our Defense played great not exceptional our outstanding which is amazing to say since they had 6 2nd half turnovers but that final drive just kinda made me feel it was all for not but also that was cause our Offense was playing at C- level an our special team gets a F because it resulted in the plays that affected the game the most! The Scott Harding fumble for a TD, Mike Edwards bobbled catch, Kickoff’s not going past the 5 yard line sometimes not even the 10! Block Kick’s it’s been all apart of this season. Our whole Special teams need a OVERHAUL! Quick! An Our Offense line hasnt been playing to well to most of the time other teams get enough to pressure on Mo! As a Team they brought their C game but if they wanna play good they need to bring there A game! But kudo’s for them fighting back! Our Defense leaving it all on the line an despite that last TD they were the reason we got back into the game!
Here’s hoping to a better preformance next time lets see our Defense playing like they did in the 2nd half an our offense an Special Teams NEVER playing like this again well maybe except for Iosefa!
Go Warriors I believe in you this lost stung but I think the UNLV game still hurts more because we didnt even have a chance in that game an in this game we had our fair share of oppurtunities to win! This was a fun game to watch but im sad about the outcome but you win some you lose some but you KEEP FIGHTING! What should be going on in the head of the players is we might’ve lost some fans now you have to WIN THEM BACK! Keep playing hard an adjust!
Go Warriors
Thank you for being my own instructor on this area. I actually enjoyed your current article a lot and most of all enjoyed reading how you handled the aspect I regarded as being controversial. You happen to be always very kind to readers much like me and let me in my lifestyle. Thank you.
I dont wanna settle for mediocrity to an I dont wanna settle for 7-6 or 8-5 I like it when were 10-4, 11-3 or even 12-0.
I dont feel its ok to lose to UNLV by 20 or it’s ok for us to lose to San Jose St with 6 turnovers, 2 block kicks thats just upsetting but i think people shouldn’t give up on our boys just yet they fought hard in this game. An things happen I think we SHOULD BE more consistent on ALL SIDES of the ball!
I think Coach mac has done alright but needs to be careful he has done good academic wise an alright on the field but we need better preformances! But Our Defense has gotten better!
Not a good idea to take four days off this past week, it clearly showed, team was unprepared and unmotivated. When will coach Mack learn???
If the PAT/field goal team cannot slow the rush before kicking the ball, perhaps we should fake the kicks to keep the opponents guessing. Who cares if we don’t score. At least the opposing team isn’t scoring from our mistakes/weaknesses.
I have to ask why Pollard did not go out of bounds after catching the pass on the last drive? Why did UH receivers not use the sidelines to stop the clock? Still scratching my head on this one. I think we need a qb who can throw the long ball otherwise we need to work on our running game.
#964,
That’s actually an interesting idea. Sad that it has to come to that but its worth a shot.
I am certain that this kicking problem will NOT be solved by seasons end.
We need to get creative on PAT and FG etc.
Torres is a delight to watch. One of the best on either side.
Iosefa is a bull. He gest better each game, sometimes each play.
So many good plays by the Warriors. Very frustrating loss.
*gets* that should read.
This was a poorly played game that both teams deserved to lose. The game confirmed to a nationwide audience that the WAC is one of the two worst conferences in the FBS.
I just feel embarassed for the teams and the conference.
#965,
When the line crumbles and Moniz makes a bad pass its totally understandable. No Mo Time.
However there were several instances tonight when SJSU rushed 4 and gave Moniz time and he still could not get the long ball anywhere near his target.
When Moniz throws inside 25 yards he is pretty darn accurate. Might be good to stick to those shorter passes and mix in the run like the west coast instead of forcing the long ball on 2nd and 3rd.
kk 901 –
😉
It wouldn’t surpise me if on Monday, if not before then, Tomey resigns. The problems on special teams remain and show no indication of being fixed. If he doesn’t resign, Mac should reassign him or assign another coach to help him.
Some may think the coach is not the problem and that their people was just better than ours. This maybe true but the coach is accountable for the performance of the players – especially when they can’t block on extra points and field goals.
da warriors follow the instrutions at practice and did their job on the field. the coaches are the ones who make the decisions and adjustments during the game, but it is very sad when you watch da warriors get their okoles because the coaches failed to make the adjustments.
don’t make excuses for the qb, he is part of the problem.
anybody knows how many starting o-linemen are on the pat and fg teams?
many will say that we should look at the total season which could be the correct way to view da wariors, but personally I don’t look at it that way. b.efore the season began, i felt that da warriors had a very good team that had a chance to win at least 10-11 games, but watching them makes me angry because the kids are playing their hearts out, but the coaches are not doing their jobs
maybe frustration and maybe mad, but personally, i think da warriors should give the other qb’s more playing time.
the defense left it all on the field. If it wasn’t for them, the team wouldn’t have even been in the game. I think coach Mack is doing a good job with getting some good young recruits. I think someone else needs to take over the special teams. coach tomey might have been a good head coach, but he’s not cutting it as a special teams coach. this is too far into the season to be making the same mistakes.
Looks like the blog will hit 1000.
Guess the old saying of attracting more flies with honey than s**t is wrong.
kevin, this is one time i disagree with you. we are not dealing with honey or the other stuff and all the negatives are justified. this game was lost because of coaching, pure and simple.
lets hit 1000
Negatives are justified. I didn’t get to watch any of the game. (Had prior commitments at the softball stadium tonight) but from what I’ve heard and read… yeah not good.
Im just so tired.
I screamed and bitched a lot when we lost the 2010 Hawaii Bowl to Tulsa and I dug into the coaches pretty hard and I don’t regret that at all to be honest with you. I’m not ashamed to say so, but a few months later, ran into Coach Mack at a basketball game and shook his hand and told him “looking forward to the new season”.
My point is, I’ll never forget how I felt that Christmas Eve.
I get it though. We’re still seeing problems, the SAME problems, well ONE problem and that is consistency overall. Just “getting up” for games shouldn’t be an issue this far into a season OR this far into a coaching regime.
I’m just tired of coming on here and sounding like a broken record.
I’ll take cues from this guy “A-JOE”, bruddah is refreshing to listen to in person and he speaks with wisdom.
Again, I’m tired. I’m just tired.
I’ve had a good week for the most part and while everything is not exactly keen in my personal life, I really don’t have time to partake in any of this anymore.
Some people think it’s “important” to keep harping on the negatives and to keep making wise ass remarks and attacking individual student-athletes, but what good does it really do.
I mean if people truly believe that the decision makers are influenced by faceless names on a message board, THEN THESE ARE BAD DECISION MAKERS that cannot make the right decisions on their own.
I’m gonna turn 29 soon and Im just tired. I see no joy in this and this doesn’t help in easing the frustration or worry.
Tonight, I got to see the 2012 Rainbow Wahine Softball team scrimmage each other for the first time, later I’m gonna go out and see some friends. Tomorrow night, I’m gonna give a speech about a good friend at his wedding reception. On Sunday I might take in Rainbow Wahine soccer, on Monday after work, there is a booster club meeting and then Rainbow Wahine Volleyball.
All that I can do, all that I look forward to… exhausting my fingers here with this vibe after spending two hours on Twitter on my cellphone giving updates at the softball stadium… well… for me it’s a waste of my time.
IMHO….don’t blame the kickers. If the kickers MISS the kicks…then maybe they deserve some of the blame. I knew the PAT was gonna be blocked from the second Austin received the snap. Ingrams snap on the PAT was high…..the snap on the field goal was in the ground. Granted the kicks could be higher…
The lineman on the left side of Ingram needs to be replaced. This gap is the weakness. Washington exposed this in their game, and San Jose did the same. They watched the film, and they attacked the weak spot. If I’m not mistaken, it was the same guy that blocked both the PAT and field goal.
Tough loss for all. God Bless!
See you next week in my seat at Aloha Stadium at last!
Go Warriors!!!
Our boys still can accomplish their goals 1. Win the Wac 2. Beat Fresno St 3. Beat BYU
Now if only we could play away like we could at home!
Should everyone be held accountable for their actions I think they should but I dont think it’s smart for people to want Mo benched after every mistake they make! At Certain times its alright but its not always smart
I don’t understand why people would think that we should have gone for 2pt instead of kicking on the last PAT. We were up by 7 so the kick would have gave us a 8 point lead. You telling me you would rather go for 2pts to be up by 9pts if successful? That is stupid. You don’t go into a extra point try thinking it will be blocked or even worse blocked and returned for 2pts.
Also what I was trying to say about flies being attracted to honey more than s*** was ONLY directed at how the blog count jumps after a bad loss more than a BIG win.
I consider the win in Ruston to be big considering the wide-spread doubt, but no where near 1000 posts.
In my post here:
I do not see anything I said remotely related to making a case whether or not this is about coaching or not.
It was a truly exciting game for both teams and could have gone either way. We must never take any team for granted.
I am sorry that people who gamble feel angry when they lose but that is another subject.
For me the bottom line is that these are kids and they are learning the lifeskills they need through teamwork and adversity. They are like my own kids and I am proud of their efforts and want to see them succeed.
I am also grateful that their teachers/coaches are working with them to help them improve.
Good will and encouragement will help them all succeed.
On another subject:
Siri. Call me Liz, not Elizabeth.
Okay, Liz Not Elizabeth.
Tsweet Warrior Dreams!
I know there were a lot more things that went into the loss but I can only think of two things right now:
An extra point. Should be AUTOMATIC. NO FREAKING EXCUSES.
A 4th and a foot with 1:35 left and the other team with only one timeout. If you can’t get that or don’t think you can (LIKE PUNTING IT AWAY!!!) you don’t deserve to win.
I was going nuts behind the Hawai’i bench when they sent the punt team on.
A travesty that had catastrophic results.
hate to be the one…
saturday = off
sunday = off
monday = video and light workouts
tuesday = full practice
wednesday = semi full practice its traveling day
thursday = non serious walk thru
is there any wonder why we looked flat (again).
Thats True though Kevin
More people like to criticize about every little thing than give credit for all the right things they do! “It’s easier to criticize than sympathize!” More people like to kick a dog when their down so to speak!
It’s not wrong to want to be undefeated an win every game an not lose to san jose or UNLV but its football thats why they play the game you win some you lose some! It’d be boring if the teams that are SUPPOSED TO WIN Won all the time! Upsets are what make Football fun an sometimes our team does the upsetting an sometime its us that get upsetted! You suck it up an you play your next game thats football theres no if, an’s about it. Yeah we could’ve done so much better but you know what San Jose could’ve done a whole lot better to!
All I can say is the better team won… hands down!
BTW – I’m a die hard warrior fan.
Hope our boys can rebound and win it out the season!
LizK ~
I just got it. Funny!
My take on Mack is one of his biggest strenghts is also one of his biggest weaknesses. Mack is a sincerely compassionate person. The players believe him when he says he cares about them as people first and ballers second. They all buy into his we are family. The players are easily our best recruiters when it comes to selling a prospect why he should come here. The coach is a decent human being.
But for Mack, compassion is a double edge sword. A less compassionate coach would not have eased up on the level of intensity of practices that existed when he was pecked off. When he was pecked off, he cracked the whip on the players as well as the assistances to work their butts off.
Once things seemed to be turned around he put the whip away. He did the compassionate thing when faced with a bye. He eased up on the intensity level of practices and gave time off to heal the wounded. Probem was for however many full practices he had for the SJSU game, none came close to the seriousness of any of the practices that preceded the previous two games. The offense came out looking like the Hawaii Bowl revisted.
Mack should read more Aesop fables, especially the one where the moral of the story was – you play like how you practice.
BTW, I do feel Mack deserves an extention. Only question at how much.
Win 4 more games ten we’re in the Hawaii Bowl against SMU? I posted on an earlier blog thaat SMU has a 6’8” player that plays in the middle against kicks and has a SMU record 8 block kicks. How are we getting around that?
Putting this game behind me….watching some rugby to make things better. Wales v France in the world cup semi-final. 3-3 after 20 minutes. Can’t wait to watch the All Blacks v Wallabies Tomorrow night. Hopefully things get fixed by next Saturday. Can’t wait for the 29th when I can watch the Warriors in person again
Funny reminds me of Steve.
thousand?
almost.
Too bad I got thousand on a sad night. Congrats to the Wahine soccer team on their victory tonight. They beat Fresno State and are now in 1st place in the WAC. Had to end it on a positive note.
Big time fans, like those at Bama and Florida make all the negatives on here sound like beautiful music.
Try going on their boards after a loss (when there is a loss). It ain’t pretty.
That being said, they still fill up the stadium every Saturday.
Its always tough for the Warriors to win on the road. But the one thing that stuck out for me tonite was that ESPN kept showing Moniz sitting by himself on da bench when things weren’t going so well for him. Why weren’t Graves and Austin sitting beside him helping him out? It’s not like they were busy doing something else. Why do we take these other QBs if they’re not helping the guy whose struggling in there? The only time I saw Graves was chest bumpin when someone else made a good play. Was weird…like Moniz had a disease or was throwin a no hitter…no one was talking to him.
supporting the players is not a problem except when players are not into his game, he should be taken out and told why he is being benched. i cannot see da team playing therir hearts out, but having to take it on the chin because some are not up to par.
One thousand and three?
so what if mo was sitting by himself with no support from the other qbs. did they get to play? or better yet, why didn’t they get to play?
trying to be as positive as I can about that horrible football game . . . big time props to our D for keeping us in the game. Don’t quite understand the change of strategy on the last play. We were holding them fine, and all of a sudden they decide to blitz and leave the middle of the field wide open.
Moniz was better in the second half, but as usually took a long time to find his rhythm and simply had an off game in the first half. It happens, BUT, after that first half performance together with the early errors in the second half, ANY OTHER TEAM IN THE NATION WOULD HAVE CHANGED QB’S. So soon people forget that we have Shane Austin on the sidelines who has proven to have the ability to win games.
ANY OTHER TEAM IN THE NATION WOULD HAVE DONE IT!!!!!!!
Any way, top ten of da second thousand.
BTW . . . I am in no way saying that Moniz should no longer be the starter. But when your QB is playing like that, you bench him. Period.
If we benched Moniz on national tv, then he cannot win the Heisman. hehehe.
and I have read someone elso comment on Moniz sitting by himself on the bench. That was happening from the beginning of the game. what gives? tension?
It takes approximately 2 weeks to prepare for failure–no more byes please lest they forget how to play the game.
the o line is young, but they do provide enough time and do their job blocking. one thing that stands out among the receivers this year is how weak their hands are compared to bess and crew. it might not be fair to compare, but it is something that is very noticeable during the game. i don’t know if there is such thing as a dropped ball stat, but they do drop a lot of balls that hit their hands.
kev-1, disagree with you.
r torres should be up for pow on the defense. he plays with the same intensity every game and provides da warrior team with great plays.
cocobean . . . you may, but the guy was off. Not only the turnovers. He overthrew a lot of open receivers today. Ultimately the objective is to win the game. And in this offense, when your most important player is struggling and you have a capable back up in Austin, what does it hurt to give him a shot?
Moniz is a good QB. Every good QB has an off game. Looking at the statistics at the end of the game do not shed light on just how off it was.
Kev-1 by your logic SJSU should have pulled their QB before their last drive. Had no TDs to that point w/three ints in the 2nd half.
I don’t know how many sacks SJSU had. If we replaced Moniz I really feel that number would have been higher. Moniz is our best combination of escapability, quick release and progression reading.
No that would be your logic, not mine. I never said that. Why would you pull your QB at the end of the game. I am talking about the first half. And if you read my earlier posts, I do give credit to Moniz for having a better second half. I am simply expressing my opinion and my belief that there is nothing wrong with giving capable back ups a shot especially when the starter is struggling.
Why do people get so defensive about Moniz? Even when I’m not putting him down.
All that is said about the kicking of a PAT or a field goal has validity to it. Need to correct it and fast. Priority, recruit a kicker like Elam.
Also it is a known fact Moniz is not accurate on long throws. I’m sure Rolo has the percentages of completion based on length of throws. All not on Moniz, the lst year starters on the receiving corps are no where near the speed or athleticism of past years receivers. Pollard has been amazing.
The D-line has played well, linebackers needs to be more consistent. Those defensive players who arm tackle need to break that bad habit. Again I believe the defense backs need to swarm to the ball and hit (gang tackle). Make the other team feel UH toughness. Torres if you were 6 feet guarans you would be playing on Sundays but then again you may end up doing so.
And how come our kicker can’t get the kick-offs past the 20 yard line? Are those planned?
The thrill of victory, the agony of defeat. You can point to many plays in the game that made a big difference, but when the game was in the balance UH had the upper hand with less than 2 minutes in the game. It was 4th and 1 in San Jose St. territory and there were many options. San Jose St. had no time outs. On third down UH ran a play with Iosefa and he was very, very close to the `1st down marker. If it was me, Coach Mack should have challenged the spot of the ball and request for further review. I saw that play and I thought for sure that Iosefa came down with the ball over the 1st down marker. If anything, it was worth the gamble. Did Coach Mac challenge the spot of the ball? If the review was granted, but still short then UH would have been assessed a time out. No problem there because we had 3 time outs. If it was granted and deemed UH picked up the 1st down UH could run out the clock. Secondly, with 4th and 1 I wouldn’t have punted. Why? 1) All night, Iosefa made yards. Surely, he could get 1 yard. Also, Iosefa could have been made a blocking back and Sterling Jackson or John Lister be the running back for more blocking. 2) Even before that, with 4th down and 1, UH should have tried to line up as if they were going for it and tried to get San Jose St. to go offsides by changing the cadence to try the defense to move. If San Jose St. has a 5 yard offside penalty, UH would have had a first down and the game is over. If San Jose St. didn’t go offsides then Moniz could have called a timeout so Rolovich/Mack would have more time to decide on the right play. Did UH try to draw San Jose St. offsides? Did they even thought about it? 3) At that juncture in the game on 4th and 1 in San Jose St. territory, by punting, we surrender the ball to San Jose St. UH was in control of our destiny by going for the win, pick up 1 yard and run the clock out. Would a QB sneak pick up one yard by Moniz? Maybe, maybe not. Either way, UH could have tried the best play they could come up with. I would have chosen a man in motion and giving the ball to Iosefa over left or right guard right up the middle like a bulldozer, or even dive over the line. Or they could have tried to run an option which UH have been very effective at. 4) If we can’t pick up the first down, well maybe it was not meant to be, but at least we tried to win the game and still had the opportunity to stop San Jose St. I was telling my friends, “go for it”. 4th and 1. Don’t give them the ball.
Mack took the safe play and punted which was good on the 13 yard line. But, we have seen all to often when the defense is playing soft coverage in prevent mode that the offense can move the ball quicklly. San Jose St. had to be agressive because they had to score a TD. We were getting scared as they got closer. It’s not a good feeling when we cannot stop the other team and the thought of being helpless. Doubt crept in. San Jose St. all night had no problem moving the ball. Their drives stopped because they made as much turnovers as we did. But, we never really did stop them from moving the ball. In the end, we couldn’t stop them. We “let em off the hook.” I can just imagine the calls on Bobby Curren’s show on Monday, the entire week for that matter and also on the Coach’s show on Tuesday night.
The Vegas game was really bad, but this one hurts even more because it is a conference game. Somebody has to take the responsibility and the decisons that were made. To me, that’s the Head Coach. He took the conservative, easy way out by punting and it backfired. If it was 4th and 3 or more, yes I would have punted, that’s the right play. If it was 4th and 2 or less I would have gone for it to try to ice the game with either a short pass with the running back in the flat or a very quick out to the receive, or try a roll out with the option of running or passing to pick up the first down, or Iosefa running it. There were many options. Sadly, the way we lost will sting for the rest of the year in my opinion, more than the UNLV game because we were right there to win the game and it was all in our hands. Like I said you can point to many plays that could have been, but to me the 4th and 1 was the biggest of them all. UH played valiantly to seize the lead and overcome all the turnovers. They played their hearts out even when they didn’t play their best game. For UH fans, I think I can say that it is probably the sickest feeling I have ever felt about a UH game and I just wonder what Nick Rolovich would have done if he had to make the call. I guess we’ll never know.
P.S. This loss is more than a loss. It could mean the coach’s job. Everybody is hurting.
Have not notice his receivers talking to Mo much when UH is on defense. Brennan and his receivers were always sitting together on the sidelines. I’m sure they were talking strategy and not only shooting the breeze until it was a blowout.
Hadden supposedly has a hip injury.
I agree we disagree. I just don’t see Austin doing any better. We’ll never know because he never got in. My point should have been do you think SJSU have changed their QB after his third int.? Not necessary for their last drive.
Austin has not taken more than a handful of snaps this season if any. Game speed is different from practice reps.
Unacceptable. Nothing more I can muster up to say right now.
I believe the team feels absolutely terrible tonight. I believe they laid it out tonight, maybe tried too hard and pressed in the end. Except for Mo and a few seniors this is a very young team, especially on offense and ST. We lose three NFL type receivers and have high expectations for the successors who haven’t had the experience needed. As the only fans behind the team we must rally together show up at the games and yell our *sses off! I believe the team will find a rallying point and their pride will raise performances to a higher level. The team will stay together and I hope the fans will as well.
i say, bye bye Mac. hello miano or Rolo asap. mac shut it doen too early AGAIN. and bye bye tomey.
one more thing. Scott Harding needs to be replaced. sorry but he’s gotta go. not ready for american football or prime time. so many thought he should be the next chad owens. he has proven he is NOT.
The Fan’s Bill of Rights clearly states that every fan has the right to give their opinion on what happened and why it happened. It also states that second guessing is an inalienable right. Of course there’s more fan’s rights. But these are the two I exercise the most often.
I’m assuming everyone here is a fan exercising their rights as fans. Whether we agree or disagree bottomline is we’re all fans. We all want whats best for the program.
I got my Oceanic Cable bill today after ordering UH PPV for the first time. $500 for 1st timers + 44.50 in cable franchise and state and general excise tax in addition to my regular cable bill. Over $700 now. I thought the $500 was high but add the other fees then, auwe, da ting worser. Good ting i wen bring home kala from Begas so i can pay yum.
Aren’t Austin and Graves standing next to Rolo to keep their head in the game, and therefore they are not available to sit with Mo on the bench. Who has the clipboard, I always thought it to be one of the reserve qbs doing charts.
In the tradition of Oakland, “Just Win, Baby”, then there will be no gripes, debates on contract extension or conference alignments. If it makes you feel better, the Na Wahine won on their futbol field Friday night, downing Fresno State 3-0 and now own the WAC best record to date at 3-1.
Redemption, Na Wahine will play San Jose State in futbol this Sunday at 5 p.m. at the Waipio complex. Come on out and cheer them on, it will make you feel better.
Wahine soccer is one of my favorites. Always watch their games on TV, caught the 700Pm telecast. Can never find someone who wants to go to Waipio. Never saw a game live. Learned to appreciate the game watching my nieces and nephews play from AYSO to HISA to high school.
Sunday is Senior Night, last home game.

I agree.
At least ask for the review. Don’t the players deserve that?
Coaches coached not to lose when the team played to win (in the second half at least).
I provide a short menu of plays to chose from on the next 4th and 1 situation:
QB sneak.
Fake punt with the snap going to the up-man and the punter faking the ball over his head.
Inside screen pass.
Outside screen to RB to trips blockers.
QB delay run from shotgun.
Direct snap to a RB (where’d that play go anyway?).
Hand-off to O-lineman up the middle.
I-formation with O-lineman as lead-blocking fullback.
Or my personal favorite:
Moniz, with defenders draped on him, throws off his back foot over the middle to Ostrowski for a TD.
Cocobean:
After tonight’s game, everyone is free to express themselves for the next 24 hours.

Billy – you do if a kick gets blocked pretty much once a game. Or in this week’s case, twice. The field goal in the 4th: he went 2/4 previously. Guess what happened on the two that didn’t make it? They got blocked.
Now he’s 2/5… that’s worse than flipping a coin.
ST,
Good seeing you again today.
Thanks for providing this forum. I don’t think we say that enough.
As for the PAT – I agree, you don’t expect a return for 2. BUT it’s pretty much 50/50 right now in terms of kicking. So say it gets blocked… not even run back… just blocked. You’re up 7. Say you make it, you’re up 8. SJSU can still tie. IT’S STILL A ONE POSSESSION GAME.
Going for 2 is the gamble with a bigger upside. The expected downside (you fail to convert) is still being up by 7. Same as if the kick’s blocked (which, I’m sorry, is a big factor SINCE IT KEEPS HAPPENING). But the upside means you’ve just made it a 2 possession game.
I don’t advocate for going for it on 4th and 1 at our own 40. That’s suicide.
But going for 2 when a) you have a history of blocked PATs b) the expected downside is exactly the same as kicking (because you get blocked so often) and c) the expected upside means probably winning the game because you’re up 2 possessions… I will take that gamble EVERY time.
I think I just expressed myself 😉 Thanks ST for a place to vent. Sigh…
MattO,
I can see you’re point of not going for it on fourth and 1. However, I’m looking at it from the perspective of the last 6 of SJSU’s 7 or so drives ended in turnovers. If the UH offense didn’t make the 1st down, D could hold them as long as they don’t play the “prevent” style they went to on SJSU’s last drive.
Poor coaching decisions all around, I think.
UH should just go for two from now on. Good point, MattO. Unfortunately, it is the safer play.
Seems like when royce not in moniz struggles. Idk jus a thot.
Blah dam espn curse. Ok I got to get over this some how. Hopefully da recruits still wana come here.
#1021… Derek…
We had 4th and 1 on our own 44.
First, we should’ve asked for a review of the spot, as huge as that was. Wouldn’t have mattered if we lost a timeout for a challenge; we still had the ball.
SJSU did not take any timeouts in the 3rd quarter. They used up all of their timeouts by the time we faced that 4th and 1 situation. However we lined up, they couldn’t have stopped game play to make any adjustments. While they were scrambling to get the right personnel on and off of the field for the punt, we should’ve snapped the ball to draw a too many men flag. We always take too long to line up and snap the ball. We could’ve taken advantage of that situation.
Going back to my comments about heaving those long bombs…
Most of what we saw on tv were tight shots. By the time the camera zoomed back out, all we saw was a long ball being thrown. Having no opportunity to see the full play develop, I have to take back my criticism. Maybe SJSU had all the short stuff constantly covered, which led our offense having to go for those long throws. However, if our QB is scrambling around, our receivers won’t break off their route and come back to help out. Maybe that’s also why we end up seeing so many long bombs. I miss seeing the short passes with YAC to move the chains… those quick releases a second or two after the snap that are high percentage and can’t be stopped. If they’re playing five yards off of the ball, then make the throw and try to take those 5 yards. If we make them miss, we gain more.
No matters now. Game pau. We’ve got seven games left. We gotta come out each week on fire. We gotta find that rhythm sooner, and we can’t find it by throwing bombs. We gotta get a feel for the game speed earlier in the game.
Let’s go, Warriors! The rest of the season is yours. What are you gonna do with it?

Too one dimensional and predictable on offense. Iosefa is fun to watch, though. No fire or killer instinct on offense. Very timid play calling. Couldn’t get a half a yard for a first down in order to lock up the game in the fourth. Chemistry seems to be amiss, especially on offense.
Defensive coaches have earned their pay. Maybe they should put Richard Torres on offense too. I love watching him play.

One word, “Pathetic!”.
Kev-1 Your comments regarding QB’s is right on. There should have been a change at the half when the game could have been won with Austin. There have been numerous times after the games when fans come up to me & say “why does’nt Austin play more” The reason is that Mac is so fearful of a QB controversy he is willing to go down with the ship rather than make intelligent coaching decisions. The really sad part is the players & fans deserve better than the coaches they are stuck with.
With havin so much content do you ever run into any issues of plagorism or copyright infringement? My blog has a lot of unique content I’ve either written myself or outsourced but it looks like a lot of it is popping it up all over the web without my agreement. Do you know any methods to help protect against content from being stolen? I’d certainly appreciate it.
