Game day: Nevada

This is the Mountain West opener for both teams, but it sure feels like another WAC game.

This is the Warriors’ best scenario: Playing a good opponent at home.

The Pack should be well-rested and comfortable after arriving on a charter flight, staying at Turtle Bay and practicing at Leilehua High.

We’ll see if the weather has any bearing.

Show your support of the team by cheering them on at the Warrior Walk. If you’re not tailgating in the parking lot along the first half of the walk, the best area is to see the team is during the second half of the walk. There is a lot of room to see the team when they cross the Circle Road up to the box office.

It’s scheduled for 2:00 but be there earlier. Last week, fans missed the Walk because the buses arrived early. Based on last week’s experience, the Warrior Walk should start around 1:45.

  25. WarriorNY September 22, 2012 8:45 am

Can someone explain to me the reason Senator Inouye’s name is on the ad for Linda Lingle?!? (top left corner of blog) I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like that. So let’s put the name of a guy who wants your opponent to win on your ad..?!?

  26. kev-1 September 22, 2012 8:45 am

This must be a really heavy hearted game for Rolo. He really wanted to be here in Hawaii. A win will be bitter sweet for him, so lets not give him one. That way he won’t have to deal with the mixed emotions.

  27. Hilo-Warrior September 22, 2012 8:49 am

Here we go Warriors. We took a humbling loss to USC, Last week we learned how to execute a whole game, and this week is our first real game of the season. Show the nation what we got.

    GO WARRIORS!!!

Also do we have a ticket sales count as of today? I saw the numbers on thursday night but do we know what it is today?

Always interesting to figure out the target demographic for a TV show by watching the commercials. (i.e.- Geritol, ensure, AARP for The Price is Right)

Watching the Ga. Tech- Miami game and it’s interesting to see a Bail Bondsman commercial!

    😈

Methinks this rule change on KO’s with touchbacks coming out to the 25 is really messing with return guys’ minds.

  83. Garret September 22, 2012 2:00 pm

Go Warriors! I finally caught up with the blog–it was entertaining to read the past 9 days in just yesterday and today.

My vote is late but I vote for Warriors.

Really bad to hear about the injury to Moses Samia. Hopefully he’s back next season and has a full recovery. I also hope that the paperwork has been recorded properly in case he suffers another injury and wants a medical redshirt year.

The roster shuffling to get the depth in the DT rotation makes sense. I look forward to seeing how the DL does against a decent OL that has had success in run blocking.

  84. Garret September 22, 2012 2:02 pm

    Hey, still get pan laulau

    mo808,

The pan laulau is made by Mrs. Momo for the first and last home games. They also didn’t have much time to prepare stuff today due to Momo’s bowling and the early kickoff time, so they couldn’t have prepped the pan laulau today anyway.

  85. kkobi425 September 22, 2012 2:04 pm

    Wow, Wafan cougs couged it.

  86. Garret September 22, 2012 2:06 pm

I wish that I could be at the game. I agree with Ferd’s column that this game is crucial for UH getting into the Hawaii Bowl. Given the history between Nevada and UH, I’m glad that this game is at Aloha Stadium…as UH needs this win.

The home crowd should give a great boost to the Warriors today. Having more than a thousand more students than last year will really help the atmosphere, credit goes to Coach Chow and everyone else involved in the outreach to the students.

You know that Ault desperately wants to win this game…hope his flight out of Hawaii is as depressing as it normally is for him. The Warriors need this win.

  87. Committed Road Warrior September 22, 2012 2:19 pm

    Some conference scores:

    Wyoming beats Idaho, 40-37 (OT)

Colorado St. trailing Utah St., 17-0 (Early 2nd)

SDSU leading SJSU, 7-3 (Early 2nd)

NM leading NMSU, 3-0 (Early 2nd)

Fresno leading Tulsa, 20-7 (Late 1st)

  88. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 2:23 pm

    Thanks Committed Road Warrior.

    Fresno gonna be nasty.

  91. Stephen Tsai September 22, 2012 2:31 pm

  94. Ratbird September 22, 2012 2:41 pm

Looks like Chow is passing less in the Lamar game versus the USC game. He’s running more to set up the runs. I guess Robocop will have to be satisfied with 20-25 pass attempts a game. Not complaining as we have good runners in Will Gregory, Joey Iosefa, John Lister, etc. I think Noem Chow offense is going to be very potent as the season goes along. His defense is already doing great. I think this Neveda game will be determined by our defense. If our defense plays like they did against Lamar, we have a good chance of winning. But make no mistake, Nevada is dangerous. It will be a fun game for Hawaii fans.

  95. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 2:44 pm

Gotta contain the number 2 rushing back in the nation, young Mr. Jefferson…

  96. mo808 September 22, 2012 2:44 pm

I have mixed feelings today. Glad Rolo’s back, but sad he’ll be on the other side of the field.

    Go Warriors!

    Howzit, everyone!

    Great GameDay!

ST, mahalo for the update on number of buses transporting students from Manoa to the stadium! Hope to see that number grow with each home game.

    Let’s go, Warriors!!!

    Always Ready!!!

  99. Wes'side Warrior September 22, 2012 3:10 pm

lots of interceptions during the Notre Dame game.

    low scoring game?

I didn’t watch all of it, but I did see Manti Teo intercept once.

Hubby noticed 3 interceptions by ND.

  106. gigi-hawaii September 22, 2012 3:16 pm

I hope Hawaii shows lots of offense up front.

Last game, there was such a slow boring start.

    LET THE FUN BEGIN!

  107. Warrior Dave September 22, 2012 3:17 pm

OMG it’s hot today at the stadium. Not looking forward to sitting in the sun.

  108. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 3:18 pm

Yes, Gigi (and hubby), the announcers blame Mich qb not planting his right foot and

    following through with his arm.

  109. gigi-hawaii September 22, 2012 3:18 pm

ST: your famous turkey-avocado sub from Subway has become a game day tradition in the gigi household.

We eat half for lunch and the other half for dinner.

very filling, delicious, and easy way to stick to a weight loss diet.

  110. gigi-hawaii September 22, 2012 3:20 pm

Ipu – whats the score now?

last I saw, it was 3-0 ND

  114. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 3:23 pm

I had that sub and it was a bit tough on my tummy.

Perhaps I should have asked them to melt the cheese.

  115. gigi-hawaii September 22, 2012 3:25 pm

10-0 huh? way to go, Irish!

  116. Ratbird September 22, 2012 3:25 pm

The only drawback to Robocop is he’s not a scrambler or quick footed. If Nevada’s defense can rush him, it’ll be like the USC game. And Robocop does not have a fast release. In this case, a David Graves scrambler would be wanted. I hope I’m wrong Robocop won’t be rushed all game long. A couple of long rushes by Will Gregory and Joey Iosefa should really help the offense jell.

  117. gigi-hawaii September 22, 2012 3:25 pm

well, ST is right. It’s the avocado that makes the sandwich so moist and ono.

  118. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 3:26 pm

And the avocado came out of greasy looking bag from some dirty looking water

hole in the counter…with the girl wiping it more than once with her cleanup rag.

  119. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 3:28 pm

Charleys deluxe sandwich much munchy better…

    so ono…

  120. gigi-hawaii September 22, 2012 3:28 pm

    huh? naaahhhh

  121. Stephen Tsai September 22, 2012 3:28 pm

    Gigi:

Next assignment is to get the guacamole dip at Whole Foods. it’s really good.

  122. gigi-hawaii September 22, 2012 3:29 pm

ST has avocado on the brain. Lol

  123. Stephen Tsai September 22, 2012 3:29 pm

Last week, there was a screwup and the music to UH’s intro walk — Hawaii 78 — didn’t play. So this week, Chow took care of that. He brought his own speakers.

  124. gigi-hawaii September 22, 2012 3:30 pm

and to think we always threw the neighbor’s avocados back into her yard, not knowing any better.

  125. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 3:30 pm

I sometimes bring fresh cut avocado slices from home and sneak them

into my whoppers and jumbo jacks…

  126. Stephen Tsai September 22, 2012 3:31 pm

What’s good about bringing their own system is the playlist is what they use during practices. So now the Warriors are in an aural comfort. OK, maybe it doesn’t mean squat against Jefferson and Fajardo, but it is a good college try.

  127. Stephen Tsai September 22, 2012 3:32 pm

Same uniform scheme as last week: Dark jerseys, white pants (with skid marks).

  128. WarriorNY September 22, 2012 3:32 pm

Wahoo a half hour till kickoff!! I’m telling you guys try it with bacon…!

Te’o had another interception today, we should start a campaign…

Manti Te’o for Heisman! If Charles Woodson can win it, why not Manti???

  129. gigi-hawaii September 22, 2012 3:32 pm

I wonder if NFL Sports will show the intro walk and run by both teams.

or will they just start with the kick off.

  130. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 3:33 pm

    And the avocado is green…

    well, a funny green.

    Go UH!

  131. Stephen Tsai September 22, 2012 3:33 pm

Nevada will be on the sunny side of the field. Too bad it ordered only two fans. UH is in the shade, with four fans. Hmmm. Two plus four equals six, divided by two is three. I suppose UH could send one of its fans to the Nevada sideline.

  132. gigi-hawaii September 22, 2012 3:33 pm

hey, does UH have any Heisman wannabes this year?

  133. Stephen Tsai September 22, 2012 3:34 pm

    Gigi:

    I think it’s NBC Sports.

  134. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 3:34 pm

    I like that:

    Manti Te’o for Heisman!

    And bacon on everything…

    No Stevie Wonder songs?

  138. Stephen Tsai September 22, 2012 3:43 pm

UH is in the locker. Nevada is on the field. I think the Pack might get run over by the UH band.

  139. oldie September 22, 2012 3:43 pm

Wow! LTE with 5 bars on AT&T network. Will it hold up until end of the game?

  140. gigi-hawaii September 22, 2012 3:45 pm

hubby brought a Norm Chow We chase championships T-shirt to the cash register at Costco last night.

they failed to charge him for it.

hubby insisted they do so, because he was afraid he would jinx the game if he didnt pay for the shirt.

    so honest.

    no batchi.

    td nevada..and point after … 17 us : 27 them

  311. Matt September 22, 2012 5:15 pm

I wanna see Edwards return one to the house.

  312. MattyBoy September 22, 2012 5:16 pm

Wow our defense doesn’t look that good..

  313. NYUHTX September 22, 2012 5:16 pm

    c’mon Warriors!!!!!

  315. UHfan808 September 22, 2012 5:16 pm

Warriors, keep up the tenacity and make it fercious!!

  316. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 5:16 pm

Hope it is not as Rolo’s mentor, June Jones, said, “…we will just outscore them.”

  317. kkv3000 September 22, 2012 5:17 pm

Hawaii cannot compete on the defensive line!

  318. Matt September 22, 2012 5:17 pm

    Pass Interference!

  319. Matt September 22, 2012 5:19 pm

    Dang. INT.

  320. Matt September 22, 2012 5:20 pm

Defense gotta get a stop right now!

  321. Matt September 22, 2012 5:20 pm

    Too many penalties.

  322. mo808 September 22, 2012 5:21 pm

    I can take this.

  323. mo808 September 22, 2012 5:22 pm

    Can=CANT

  324. MattyBoy September 22, 2012 5:22 pm

I take that back….our defense sucks!!

  325. Iwonderwhytheyhateme September 22, 2012 5:23 pm

    Run defense anyone? =(

  326. WarriorNY September 22, 2012 5:24 pm

Mo, don’t worry yet… Were still in it

  327. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 5:24 pm

    Jefferson has 5 touhdowns.

Where does Ault find these guys?

  328. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 5:26 pm

    Great kickoff return by UH—Yea!

  329. Matt September 22, 2012 5:27 pm

    Gotta catch that!!!

  330. hawnstln September 22, 2012 5:27 pm

    No defense?????

  331. Matt September 22, 2012 5:28 pm

    Timeout???

  332. NYUHTX September 22, 2012 5:29 pm

I don’t get it, when you can’t see a DL numbers because an OL is all over them, that is offensive holding.

  333. Matt September 22, 2012 5:30 pm

UH gotta regroup. Make the adjustments.

  334. mo808 September 22, 2012 5:30 pm

Sorry guys, I just want them to do do better. I won’t give up the fight!

  335. UHfan808 September 22, 2012 5:30 pm

i go to the bafroom and…

regroup for adjustments in the half time, Warriors

  336. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 5:30 pm

Down by 17, two tds and a field goal.

    We can do this.

  337. Matt September 22, 2012 5:31 pm

Wahine VB trailing 19-15 in set 4. They gotta regroup too.

  338. MattyBoy September 22, 2012 5:32 pm

    336,

    Haha I don’t think so!

  339. UHfan808 September 22, 2012 5:33 pm

It would not be a football game if it were THAT easy lol 🙂

  340. MattyBoy September 22, 2012 5:33 pm

Hawaii sure fooled me! I thought they’d actually have a chance by the way they’ve been playing lately….guess not.

  341. UHfan808 September 22, 2012 5:34 pm

OMG would take me an HOUR to eat all of that lol

  342. UHfan808 September 22, 2012 5:36 pm

    funny pre-half time contest

band is on! i like how the flags are between the band..danger 😎

  343. WarriorNY September 22, 2012 5:36 pm

NBC sports guys just continued my Manti Teo for Heisman campaign!!!

  344. oldie September 22, 2012 5:38 pm

    csb,

LTE is much, much better. Still have 4 bars.

Also, checking our pup at home thru a camera system. That was really slow last week.

  345. UHfan808 September 22, 2012 5:38 pm

all that helping the Warriors learn Co-Ed seems to have matured the band’s sound

  346. Matt September 22, 2012 5:39 pm

    MattyBoy,

They have a chance. I trust Kaumeyer to make adjustments at the half.

  347. Shoko September 22, 2012 5:39 pm

Might be another 200 plus yarder for Jefferson if the Warrior defense can’t seal off those gaps.

Nevada’s secondary is bad, especially FS Khalid Wooten. Get Trevor out on a post and he’ll find the end zone.

  348. Will-I-Am September 22, 2012 5:39 pm

Manti got player of the game.

    Manti for Heisman!

  349. Iwonderwhytheyhateme September 22, 2012 5:39 pm

What in the hell was that? Regroup for the 2nd half with all cylinders firing please.

Go Go Go Go Go Warriors!

  350. UHfan808 September 22, 2012 5:39 pm

aww it’s a little girl singing when you wsh upon a star…cutie!

  351. Shoko September 22, 2012 5:40 pm

28-24 Air Force. Will the Rebels finally get a win, or will it be 0-4 at home?

  352. UHfan808 September 22, 2012 5:41 pm

yeah gotta stop that jefferson guy…

  353. Matt September 22, 2012 5:42 pm

Wahine lost set 4 27-25. Going to a 5th set.

  354. UHfan808 September 22, 2012 5:45 pm

    cute (lilo and) stitches!

  355. oldie September 22, 2012 5:45 pm

Great halftime show. So nice when they feature the youth.

  356. UHfan808 September 22, 2012 5:48 pm

You go UH BAND and et al — Great job!

Welcome back, Warriors! — Let’s go Warriors!

  357. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 5:49 pm

It would be great if we all never got older than 5 years old…

Then watching this game would be like watching peewee football.

    🙄

  358. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 5:52 pm

    The Ducks are winning…

  359. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 5:53 pm

    Number 6 Oklahoma lost…

  360. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 5:56 pm

    LET’S GO WARRIORS!!!

  361. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 5:58 pm

UH Defense makes URN punt. Good job.

Needed that to start the 2nd half. A+

  362. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 5:59 pm

    RUN RUN PASS PUNT

  363. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 6:00 pm

    WHAT A POOR PUNT

  364. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 6:00 pm

    🙁

  365. Matt September 22, 2012 6:01 pm

We missed Dunnachie on that one.

  366. Shoko September 22, 2012 6:02 pm

    28-31 Rebels.

  367. MattyBoy September 22, 2012 6:02 pm

Now I’m really starting to doubt Chow!!! Never thought that I’d say that but wow! This game is horrible

  368. MattyBoy September 22, 2012 6:03 pm

Please don’t let this be the start of the Chow-Appen era.

  369. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 6:04 pm

Rolo gonna have a good future.

  370. BigHiloFan2 September 22, 2012 6:04 pm

    i’m in denial!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  371. Matt September 22, 2012 6:05 pm

    Wahine win set 5 15-12.

  372. Nakoa September 22, 2012 6:05 pm

    We’re getting dominated

  373. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 6:06 pm

Chow said we won’t win every game, but we will win games.

So I don’t mind beating BYU and SDSU.

  374. UHfan808 September 22, 2012 6:06 pm

maybe sometimes everything just has to go wrong nothing clicking idk…

  375. UHfan808 September 22, 2012 6:07 pm

    coach has to start somewhere

we still have to give it time

today is just the 3rd game…

  376. UHfan808 September 22, 2012 6:09 pm

    (no batch, please!)

    one game at a time…

  377. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 6:10 pm

The touchdowns we did make sure looked beautiful.

  378. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 6:10 pm

safe predictable play-calling. glaring needs, qb, wr, dt’s.

  379. UHfan808 September 22, 2012 6:11 pm

i wanna see not giving up

    i think that’s what i’m seeing still

  380. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 6:11 pm

    Bo Yap sack man!

  381. Shoko September 22, 2012 6:11 pm

Jefferson’s six TDs set Mountain West record for most points scored in a game. And its not over…

  382. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 6:12 pm

    #375. true dat

  383. UHfan808 September 22, 2012 6:12 pm

we can’t be fair weather fans

i’m patiently waiting and happy with each success

  384. MattyBoy September 22, 2012 6:12 pm

Hawaii is stabbing me in the heart!!!

  385. Matt September 22, 2012 6:14 pm

Defense doing better. Nice stop Edwards.

  386. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 6:14 pm

#381. first game in the MWC, and we already in the record books 🙁

  387. wafan September 22, 2012 6:14 pm

    Go Warriors!

  388. MattyBoy September 22, 2012 6:14 pm

    386,

Not in a good way either

  389. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 6:15 pm

fair weather fans wouldn’t be here.

  390. UHfan808 September 22, 2012 6:15 pm

we have to keep up the keep going mentality

and learn how to not waver

every successful person had to endure trials and errors

their success was and is held in not giving up

getting back up, tweaking, and trying again

  391. Matt September 22, 2012 6:15 pm

Come on defense. Gotta hold em on 4th down.

  392. Nakoa September 22, 2012 6:15 pm

Team maybe out of shape. Making their running back look like Herschel walker

  393. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 6:15 pm

Actually, the guys are giving 110% on defense. But that’s what the pistol likes

as it traps you with overpursuit blocks.

  394. UHfan808 September 22, 2012 6:16 pm

    yep 389 🙂

  395. Nakoa September 22, 2012 6:16 pm

As usual we have an undersized secondary

  396. tommui September 22, 2012 6:17 pm

    Unfortunately, speed kills.

  397. Nakoa September 22, 2012 6:17 pm

    Trevor Davis looks strong

  398. Nakoa September 22, 2012 6:18 pm

    Blowout

  399. wafan September 22, 2012 6:18 pm

    Dang.

  400. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 6:18 pm

Sure looks like Rolo has some input…

  401. madeinhawaii September 22, 2012 6:19 pm

Our guys are getting gassed… Nevada’s near no huddle offense is wearing them down… I wonder if Rolo is calling most of the plays?

  402. postmanke September 22, 2012 6:19 pm

Bigger, stronger, faster. No worries. Bumbai

  403. wafan September 22, 2012 6:19 pm

    Playing for pride.

  404. wafan September 22, 2012 6:20 pm

Reno getting all their frustrations out tonight.

  405. MattyBoy September 22, 2012 6:20 pm

Wow it looks like we just plain suck!! Chow and staff making Hawaii look horrible on national television

  406. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 6:21 pm

btw, ST, does Rolo have his 4’oclock shadow?

  407. Wes'side Warrior September 22, 2012 6:21 pm

Wish we could watch instead of just listening to ESPN1420. Not liking what I’m hearing.

    C’mon! Let’s go, Warriors!!!

  408. UHfan808 September 22, 2012 6:22 pm

    nice run 🙂

  409. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 6:22 pm

good news is we have BYU in 6 days. Bad news is, we have BYU in 6 days.

  410. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 6:22 pm

Mike Edwards and special teams deserve some praise from the coaches.

  411. MattyBoy September 22, 2012 6:23 pm

Hawaii Bowl doesn’t seem so likely anymore.

  412. Shoko September 22, 2012 6:23 pm

If anything, Rolo might be calling plays now. Otherwise know as mop-up duties.

Edwards, Trevor, Bo and Miah seem to be the shining light tonight.

  413. UHfan808 September 22, 2012 6:23 pm

(geez, sometimes gotta edit what we say before pressing da submit button, eh?)

  414. Nakoa September 22, 2012 6:23 pm

Mike Edwards needs to return every kick or punt. Graves needs to be given a shot at #1, because this isn’t working.

  415. WarriorNY September 22, 2012 6:23 pm

Mike Edwards has to be top in the country in average punt returns after today…

  416. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 6:24 pm

BYU offense sort of like Chow’s pro-set…and they are big players.

    And old.

  417. MattyBoy September 22, 2012 6:24 pm

Yup Edwards and special teams doing what they’re supposed to do. Props to them…can’t say that about the O and D

  418. Shoko September 22, 2012 6:24 pm

    Rolo is clean shaven tonight.

  419. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 6:24 pm

407, it’s on NBC Sports national tv. it the former Versus channel.

  420. Nakoa September 22, 2012 6:24 pm

    Schroeder needs to be benched

  421. wafan September 22, 2012 6:24 pm

    Will we see Graves?

  422. tommui September 22, 2012 6:24 pm

Rainbow Wahine hang on to win in 5-sets.

  423. mo808 September 22, 2012 6:24 pm

Okay, my phone died and I’m borrowing hubs phone. I am happy for Rolo, but sad for us. I dont want to lose and that’s what we’re doing right now. Hubs says something about free tacos ut I don’t want no d@m taco I want to win the game! Said that aloud and bruddah next to me says “take the Taco!”. 🙁

  424. UHfan808 September 22, 2012 6:25 pm

    1st down!!

  425. WarriorNY September 22, 2012 6:25 pm

    I mean kickoff returns

  426. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 6:25 pm

412, miah dropped 3 balls including 1 in the end zone.

  427. Nakoa September 22, 2012 6:25 pm

Ne’quan is going to be one hell of a play maker in a year or two

  428. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 6:26 pm

Now if Chow can make us like Seattle Seahawks…

  429. Matt September 22, 2012 6:26 pm

    Shoko,

Miah isn’t shining tonight. He had a couple of key drops.

  430. wafan September 22, 2012 6:26 pm

    Warriors . . . stay focused!

  431. Nakoa September 22, 2012 6:27 pm

I guess there’s a reason schroeder didn’t play in three years at duke…

  432. Shoko September 22, 2012 6:28 pm

Looks like Nevada brought in a nickel to help out the secondary.

  433. Nakoa September 22, 2012 6:28 pm

Please put graves in. Once they run in another touchdown…

  434. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 6:28 pm

when did tacos become big in hawaii?

  435. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 6:30 pm

    Doritos will do ya…

  436. WarriorNY September 22, 2012 6:30 pm

    Nakoa,

Schroeder isn’t playing bad… How many drops can you blame on him?

  437. Nakoa September 22, 2012 6:30 pm

They’re offensive play falls apart and we still can’t tackle. Team looks soft and slow

  438. Matt September 22, 2012 6:30 pm

Shroeder has not been helped by the 6 dropped balls.

  439. Nakoa September 22, 2012 6:31 pm

How many balls have been late, behind, or way off target?

  440. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 6:31 pm

Bo Yap drops Jefferson for a 4 yard loss!

  441. Matt September 22, 2012 6:31 pm

Beau Yap having a pretty good game.

  442. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 6:31 pm

SS holds onto the ball way too long, but the wr are not helping him with their drops.

  443. wafan September 22, 2012 6:31 pm

    Steve?

  444. Nakoa September 22, 2012 6:32 pm

Someone should tell coach chow that there is a thing called a screen pass

  445. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 6:32 pm

    Jefferson did NOT make td…

  446. MattyBoy September 22, 2012 6:33 pm

    Hawaii freaken sucks

  447. MattyBoy September 22, 2012 6:33 pm

    Recruits must be laughing!!

  448. wafan September 22, 2012 6:33 pm

NCAA record for tds in a single game by one player is 8.

Hoping we do not witness a new record.

  449. fshnpoi September 22, 2012 6:34 pm

moi moi time. goin rest and hope my redskins does better against the bengals today (east coast), chow chow chow.

  450. postmanke September 22, 2012 6:34 pm

Losing bad like this at home is good for “personal growth”

  451. Shoko September 22, 2012 6:34 pm

At least two of Schroeders passes were catchable.

  452. WarriorNY September 22, 2012 6:34 pm

    Mattyboy,

    Why are you on here?

  453. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 6:35 pm

    scrub that…

  454. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 6:35 pm

my prediction for this season was 2-10. I’m really looking forward to see what Chow does with a full season of recruiting and how we look 2-3 years from now, 2014 and 2015 seasons.

  455. MattyBoy September 22, 2012 6:36 pm

    This is fricken embarrassing!

  456. Janusz smyczynski September 22, 2012 6:36 pm

I sure miss the run n shoot !!!

  457. MattyBoy September 22, 2012 6:36 pm

    452,

    Pleease…I’m being realistic

  458. Nakoa September 22, 2012 6:37 pm

What if we just had a team that was in shape? In 2007 our team wasn’t even in shape. Small secondary, front seven that has good size but is too slow. That’s our formula for our defense that allows 500+ yards to any decent offense for the past seven years

  459. UHfan808 September 22, 2012 6:37 pm

wassup tonite – seemed more focused during the usc game

  460. mo808 September 22, 2012 6:37 pm

I don’t like fair weather fans!

  461. MattyBoy September 22, 2012 6:38 pm

And please no excuses that this is a young team with a new staff..this is just horrible

  462. WarriorNY September 22, 2012 6:38 pm

Goodnight all… I’m just gonna have a drink and watch the rest of the game without reading trolls.. Cfoodnight”

  463. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 6:38 pm

How did South Florida beat Nevada?

  464. Nakoa September 22, 2012 6:38 pm

Team is mentally weak. Part of football culture

  465. Sdbowfan September 22, 2012 6:38 pm

    GRAVES!!!!!!

  466. Sdbowfan September 22, 2012 6:38 pm

    GRAVES!!!!!!

  467. WarriorNY September 22, 2012 6:38 pm

    Goodnight

  468. UHfan808 September 22, 2012 6:39 pm

MattyBoy is … steve??? oh no…

  469. wafan September 22, 2012 6:39 pm

    WNY . . .

One. Not multiple. Well, maybe personalities.

  470. Wes'side Warrior September 22, 2012 6:40 pm

What the heck kine fans you guys?

Already irraz listening to ESPN1420. Then gotta read crap from supposed fans here too? Unrealz.

  471. BigHiloFan2 September 22, 2012 6:40 pm

    you way off SAWARRIOR.

Chow gonna get it done sooner dan dat.

but I am terribly hurt, in da heart, frum what happened dis evening.

and I gotta feel good for Rolo. conflicted, but good for him. Chow had to let him go. good for Rolo. Good for Hawaii.

okay coach, show me you no quit. not even now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  472. Nakoa September 22, 2012 6:40 pm

No one still interested in Hawaii football is a fair weather fan. The weather hasnt been fair in 5 years

  473. iwonderwhytheyhateme September 22, 2012 6:41 pm

That was the first time I saw our D stop Jefferson in the backfield. Our Defense is not in the same realm I had thought they were.

Nevada on track to score like 80 points.

  474. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 6:41 pm

Well, we criticized Barkley for not giving UH any credit.

Nevada team did good, so let’s give them credit.

No shame in losing to a good team.

  475. UHfan808 September 22, 2012 6:41 pm

    nitey nite, WNY!

  476. Matt September 22, 2012 6:42 pm

Game is out of reach. Doesn’t matter if UNR scores again. Chow might as well use the 4th quarter to try and work out some kinks on offense.

  477. Nakoa September 22, 2012 6:42 pm

    Come back June jones

  478. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 6:43 pm

    460. the score is 55-17 Nevada, they’re no fair weather fans here.

  479. chopsueyboy September 22, 2012 6:43 pm

    Ouch!

  480. wafan September 22, 2012 6:43 pm

    Gosh.

  481. Nakoa September 22, 2012 6:43 pm

Schroeder should go back to duke

  482. Nakoa September 22, 2012 6:44 pm

    He’s horrible

  483. Wes'side Warrior September 22, 2012 6:45 pm

    Dang it!

  484. MattyBoy September 22, 2012 6:45 pm

Um ….: No! I’m not Steve, or lava, or whatever. Just a fan who’s sick of seeing Hawaii getting crapped on

  485. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 6:45 pm

Fajardo, Jefferson and some linemen will be stars in the NFL someday

(and Rolo, too…). Heck, we lost to Rothslingburger and others there, too.

  486. mo808 September 22, 2012 6:46 pm

Nite WarriorNY! A true Warrior Fan!

  487. UHfan808 September 22, 2012 6:46 pm

we have a lot to work on

keep expecting the best on fundamentals

gotta do more mind strengthing exercises like here on WB too

  488. chopsueyboy September 22, 2012 6:46 pm

    Keep trying Warriors!

Stadium emptying but I’ll still stay till the end.

40+ years tradition stay no matter winning or losing

  489. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 6:46 pm

484 i feel ur pain. i live around Texas Longhorn fans, they don’t know what pain is. lol

  490. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 6:47 pm

    Go Warriors!

    Go Tsaiko Faithful!

  491. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 6:47 pm

    what was the attendance?

  492. Wes'side Warrior September 22, 2012 6:48 pm

Sick of seeing Hawaii getting crapped on? And yet you’re crapping on our own team yourself? Whatevas.

  493. Nakoa September 22, 2012 6:48 pm

The norm chow – uh deal was a deal with two parties that didnt have any other real options. Unless uh has someone donate millions of dollars to our athletic department we need to take a more aggressive

    Approach to athletics

  494. Sdbowfan September 22, 2012 6:49 pm

What’s up with Schroeder staying in?

  495. MattyBoy September 22, 2012 6:49 pm

    492,

    Haha you’re funny.

  496. obachan September 22, 2012 6:49 pm

Only consolation is that coach does not make excuses for the lack of performance unlike the practices of the campus upper administration.

  497. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 6:49 pm

Hope we don’t take up too much of the coaches time before the next game.

Let them alone to get ready without worrying about pleasing us.

    Go Chow!

  498. UHfan808 September 22, 2012 6:50 pm

MattyBoy – ( you’re doing a good enuff job c—-ing on yourself … so please stop..i’m sad enuff already and you’re just making it worse 🙁 )

how about just say what you wanna see on the field

    – what plays you see that they could call / do

    – who could do what

    – stuff like that?

instead of focusing on what’s so bad about it all

  499. MattyBoy September 22, 2012 6:51 pm

At least lose respectably…this is just embarrassing!

  500. mo808 September 22, 2012 6:51 pm

    478. Sawarrior: we’ve lost this game and that saddens me but there are reasons teams lose–this is not the end of the world–the Warriors WILL prevail…learn from this and move on!

    GO WARRIORS!

  501. MattyBoy September 22, 2012 6:51 pm

    498,

Ok I’ll stop with the negativity as of now

  502. wafan September 22, 2012 6:53 pm

    Watch out for the stalking.

  503. UHfan808 September 22, 2012 6:53 pm

i’m gonna sit right here in my seat to witness the teaam not giving up

    they’re not giving up

    so

    i’m not giving up

  504. MattyBoy September 22, 2012 6:53 pm

Just had to vent for a bit

  505. wafan September 22, 2012 6:53 pm

    Warrior O still fighting.

    Go Warriors!

  506. postmanke September 22, 2012 6:54 pm

NBC Sports Network kinda digging it

  507. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 6:54 pm

    494. SS hasn’t played much football in 3 years, he needs the reps.

  508. wafan September 22, 2012 6:55 pm

    YEAH!

  509. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 6:55 pm

Will Gregry like a work horse, scores a td.

    Good job, team!

  510. wafan September 22, 2012 6:55 pm

    Go Warriors!

    Whoo-hoo!!!

  511. UHfan808 September 22, 2012 6:55 pm

501 hey thank you much 😉

  512. wafan September 22, 2012 6:56 pm

    PAT’s like clock-work this year.

  513. mo808 September 22, 2012 6:56 pm

    @503: Alright UHFan808! Me too!!

  514. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 6:57 pm

    500. i have no problem with this loss, i predicted a loss and a 2-10 season. trust me, i understand chow needs a few years to get his type of players in.

  515. wafan September 22, 2012 6:57 pm

    ‘Attaway Warriors.

    No give up.

  516. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 6:57 pm

    Congrats to mo808, too…scored #500!

  517. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 6:58 pm

    501. say no to censorship. your entitled to ur opinions, i know ur a fan. lol

  518. UHfan808 September 22, 2012 6:58 pm

    504

    understood. vent team building style:

say what you’d like to see on the field

    for each play

    n

    overall

say what you’re seeing on the field from the other team

and what we could do to overcome the obstacles

    stuff like that

  519. Warrior in Georgia September 22, 2012 6:59 pm

So how is this better than what we had? I thought Arranda was horrible, but hell his defense only allowed 42 on the road last year!!!!!

This program was NOT broken, but y’all panicked because we had 3 or 4 tough breaks last year that costs us 2 to 3 wins. The school complained about lagging attendance and they needed to sell tickets, but I’m watching on NATIONAL TV tonight and I see as many empty seats as last year!!!!!!!!!!!!

All of you guys that have drinking chow’s kool-aid about that and how much support will be at the game is a load of crap.

A program is taking steps backward when all you needed to do is make a few changes. Good for you Rolo, Chow really screwed up letting you go. Another example of another bad decision by those who run UH Athletics, but hey I’m looking forward to the concert! Oh, yeah, guess not.

Like I’ve said here comes 4 and 8.

  520. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 6:59 pm

UH held Fajardo to no touchdowns rushing…

  521. Wes'side Warrior September 22, 2012 7:00 pm

    What happened to our kickoffs?

Seems we started the season with good, deep kicks. But this game has seen struggles in kickoffs. Can anyone who is watching comment, please? Listening to Veneri and BC doesn’t give any clue to what’s going on.

  522. wafan September 22, 2012 7:02 pm

    Trolls abound.

  523. wafan September 22, 2012 7:03 pm

    Wow.

  524. Wes'side Warrior September 22, 2012 7:03 pm

I don’t know who that is, by the way…

  525. UHfan808 September 22, 2012 7:03 pm

    517

yes. if we still want to have a team, we can’t be all that kine depressed negative

  526. Slugger September 22, 2012 7:03 pm

    Keep going Warriors!!!!

    I still luv ’em.

  527. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 7:03 pm

#25 made a pizza-poor attempt to make a tackle. TD nevada.

  528. postmanke September 22, 2012 7:03 pm

    Nevada you da Mountain!

  529. mo808 September 22, 2012 7:03 pm

    @514: Sawarrior: 2-10?

Don’t base that off today please!

  530. wafan September 22, 2012 7:03 pm

Rolo, if he is calling plays, is doing a super job.

  531. tommui September 22, 2012 7:04 pm

#485 Ipu Man. Agree that Jefferson and Fajardo will probably make it to the NFL.

But “Heck, we lost to Rothslingburger …” No – we beat Miami of Ohio by a whisker but a win is a win.

  532. UHfan808 September 22, 2012 7:04 pm

    so

i hate to see the other team run away with the ball

    dang

  533. Dyama September 22, 2012 7:04 pm

    Face, we are a JOKE.

  534. Wes'side Warrior September 22, 2012 7:05 pm

Run D was good the first two games…

    Is it over-pursuit?

    Assignments?

Dang, I really wish we could’ve watched this one!

  535. PowderPuff September 22, 2012 7:06 pm

I wish you guys could hear Rolo and the Nevada coaches up here…

  536. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 7:07 pm

    Thanks for the correction, tommui.

btw, who was the uh qb that game, do you remember?

  537. wafan September 22, 2012 7:08 pm

    PP . . .

    Gloating or field-day?

  538. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 7:08 pm

#529. no no no, lol. 2-10 was based on our schedule, personnel returning, new coaches/schemes etc…

  539. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 7:08 pm

Thought it was Timmy Chang but maybe Rolo?

  540. Wes'side Warrior September 22, 2012 7:08 pm

Sounds as though Nevada is much better than USC…

  541. MattyBoy September 22, 2012 7:09 pm

Has Hawaii ever had this much points scored on them?

  542. wafan September 22, 2012 7:09 pm

BSu and Reno game will be a good one.

  543. BigHiloFan2 September 22, 2012 7:09 pm

send da Doc to pepeekeo. i’m hyperventalating!

  544. Nakoa September 22, 2012 7:10 pm

Well be lucky to win five games

  545. Slugger September 22, 2012 7:10 pm

    PP, we want a report… 🙂

    Go WARRIORS!!!

  546. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 7:10 pm

#534. i believe it’s a combination of the no huddle, play-calling and superior personnel.

  547. Wes'side Warrior September 22, 2012 7:10 pm

    BHF2… take it easy!

  548. MikeB September 22, 2012 7:10 pm

Chow should retire and take his quarterback with him.

  549. UHfan808 September 22, 2012 7:11 pm

i’m not going to advocate being so overly negative

    why?

because i would rather have a team to root for than not have one at all

    wouldn’t you?

    so

this just means we have more stuff to work on

    the team

    the school

    the community

and we can’t give up until we figure it out

    like team building style

  550. Wes'side Warrior September 22, 2012 7:11 pm

Can’t wait for PP’s summary… maybe on facebook? Maybe?

  551. BigHiloFan2 September 22, 2012 7:11 pm

    i don’t know what to think…

    nevada killed us

  552. mo808 September 22, 2012 7:12 pm

Good job Rolo! Hawaii loves you!

  553. UHfan808 September 22, 2012 7:12 pm

    whew

  554. BigHiloFan2 September 22, 2012 7:13 pm

    PP

    UHFan808

    i want a complete report. 😀

    good thing for helencalif.

her boy not going be blamed for this at all.

  555. BigHiloFan2 September 22, 2012 7:14 pm

but we are short of plugs. Friel out. Samia out. Joey out.

  556. UHfan808 September 22, 2012 7:14 pm

dear team: thank you for not giving up

  557. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 7:14 pm

Congrats, finally, to coach Ault (and Rolo).

Hope you cream the rest of your opponents this year.

And hope UH team can regroup and make up kissy-poo

by beating BYU with a BIG win.

    Can.

  558. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 7:14 pm

Nevada is good, but we made them look great.

  559. chopsueyboy September 22, 2012 7:15 pm

Team went in front of band to sing Co-ed.

    Good tradition

  560. Wes'side Warrior September 22, 2012 7:15 pm

This is gonna be one heck of a summary by the coaches too.

    Some good, but many mistakes.

But I still believe. No kool-aid here. I just believe in the whole package. Things will get better. Execution. Fundamentals. Our boyz will get used to winning. Gotta learn first. Lots of discipline to keep going during and after this. Who will step up?

  561. postmanke September 22, 2012 7:16 pm

    Headlines: Pistol Whipped!

  562. wafan September 22, 2012 7:16 pm

    Next week.

    Can!

  563. Matt September 22, 2012 7:16 pm

We got whupped tonight. No excuses. We were not “always ready” tonight. Nevada got called out by their coach and came out playing inspired. We didn’t answer. All we can do is work hard and get better next week. We’re not as bad as we looked during this game. Two tough games coming up. I’ll still be at the SDSU game cheering on the Warriors.

  564. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 7:16 pm

It was just one of those Marshal Faulk games…

  565. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 7:17 pm

BYU in 6 days, our buys better heal fast!!!

  566. wafan September 22, 2012 7:17 pm

    The sun will rise tomorrow.

    Not quite 12/21, afterall.

    Nytal!

  567. postmanke September 22, 2012 7:18 pm

All I’m gonna say is Yap is gonna need an agent.

  568. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 7:19 pm

    boyz*

  569. wafan September 22, 2012 7:19 pm

    Almost forgot.

    ‘Attaway VolleyBows!

    Whoo-hoo!!!

  570. Ipu Man September 22, 2012 7:20 pm

    Oyasuminasai.

Looking forward tomorrow for Tsai’s Sunday Blog comments.

    Good Night All.

  571. Wes'side Warrior September 22, 2012 7:20 pm

I can’t wait for our boyz to finally reach that “Ahhh” *break-through* moment, and then it steamrolls week to week, game to game.

Let’s go, Warriors! Keep fighting hard. It’ll happen sooner than you think!

  572. Wes'side Warrior September 22, 2012 7:20 pm

Oh yes! Gratz to Wahine Volleyball too!

  573. madeinhawaii September 22, 2012 7:20 pm

    Wes’side Warrior:

Of course things will get better.. I mean, what other direction can we take? Yikes.. I’m flabbergasted by tonight’s performance.

  574. Warrior in Georgia September 22, 2012 7:22 pm

These players don’t need to get used to winning, this team has won 16 games over the last two years, they were not a 2 or 3 win team.

By the way the MOST POINTS EVER SCORED ON HAWAII IN ALOHA STADIUM. Wow what an improvement.

  575. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 7:22 pm

funny thing is, well, not so funny thing… our LBs were non existent on defense.

  576. Dyama September 22, 2012 7:22 pm

Hate to say it but, we were out coached AGAIN. Memories of last year.

  577. Will-I-Am September 22, 2012 7:23 pm

Rolo has the record for most TD’s both for and against UH at Aloha Stadium.

  578. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 7:24 pm

    574. agreed

  579. Wes'side Warrior September 22, 2012 7:24 pm

Yes, definitely a disappointing, frustrating game… for everyone.

But for some reason, I have this surreal feeling that these first three games so far are just us feeling our way around. Weird feeling. I know that things will catch on, and everyone will be like, “Now THAT’s what I’m talking about!”

Gotta answer many questions that came up over and over in this game.

  580. sally September 22, 2012 7:26 pm

why did we constantly try to run up the middle? why didn’t we try more corner routes? more end arounds? more double reversals? nevada ranks 114th in defending the pass, so why didn’t we pass more? i know we’re rebuilding, but this was a horrible loss. our defensive middle always looked open for #25 to run right up our gut. i love the warriors, but this can’t happen again.

  581. wafan September 22, 2012 7:26 pm

The Monday luncheon is going to be interesting.

  582. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 7:27 pm

conservative play-calling on chow’s part. when chow opened it up with 7 straight passes, we scored. chow was predictable most of the game.

  583. Slugger September 22, 2012 7:27 pm

    I just met laulauhead.

  584. oldtimer808 September 22, 2012 7:27 pm

I feel for the team. This was a tough loss. No excuses we got pistol whipped. Our defense never adjusted and played with too much aggression and Nevada used it to their advantage. We continually over ran the play and was never in the right position to make a solid tackle. Our d-line was off balance all night.

  585. 99club September 22, 2012 7:29 pm

    I had the under.

  586. oldtimer808 September 22, 2012 7:30 pm

WIN OR LOSE GO WARRIORS AND CONTINUE TO WORK AND BE PROUD TO BE A WARRIOR.

  587. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 7:30 pm

    579. what i saw was a glaring need for a QB & WRs on offense. DTs and Safeties on Defense.

  588. Wes'side Warrior September 22, 2012 7:30 pm

Oldtimer808… your #584… mahalo for your assessment. That’s what I was wondering. Play-by-play didn’t do much to tell us what was going on.

  589. Dyama September 22, 2012 7:32 pm

    What now?

  590. Wes'side Warrior September 22, 2012 7:32 pm

Yeah, whatevas… we might’ve won 16 over the past two years, but I’m talking about the key, big-impact games. We gotta get over that hump.

  591. koakane September 22, 2012 7:32 pm

couldn’t take it any longer and left 3rd qtr. Nevada scored on 7 out of 9 possessions to pull away.

sorry but only things I fell is embarrassment. nothing intended tword the warriors but from what I saw this is was not a shinning moment is UH fball.

  592. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 7:37 pm

    591. i feel your pain. i feel that way with every loss because i expect a lot from our team. I’m not one of those to give a “gold sticker” to every player for “practicing hard”.

  593. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 7:38 pm

ok, time for some dark chocolate covered cranberries.

  594. Wes'side Warrior September 22, 2012 7:39 pm

Well, for those that are out and about, take care to make it home safely.

  595. Wes'side Warrior September 22, 2012 7:43 pm

Weird to be done with a home game already, and it’s not even 2:15 am out here yet.

True too… I am usually depressed for a week (until the next game) after a loss. But like I said, I have this weird feeling… like just waiting for our true breakout game as a team. I have hope.

  596. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 7:44 pm

5 days to be ready for BYU

  597. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 7:45 pm

hey WW, u dont have NBC Sports channel where u at?

  598. Wes'side Warrior September 22, 2012 7:46 pm

We cancelled tv (cable) this year, so the kids would concentrate more on school. Only got internet.

  599. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 7:47 pm

    oh, ok.

  600. Shoko September 22, 2012 7:48 pm

After what I saw on Thurday, playing AT BYU will be a monstrous task. Playing in front of 60k screaming Mormons will be tough.

  601. Wes'side Warrior September 22, 2012 7:48 pm

Got a senior in high school who is near the top of his class, and we don’t need the distractions. He’s doing a People to People Student Ambassador thing next summer, before college. Also hoping to get him a free ride somewhere. We’ll see.

  602. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 7:50 pm

i heard only 1 LB name called all game and it was just one time, Art Laurel on a backside tackle. LBs were nonexistent, and it looked like the scheme was all wrong for playing that type of offense. IMO, like someone said, we over ran plays and were out of position.

  603. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 7:51 pm

WW sounds like a great kid u raised, great job!

  604. Garret September 22, 2012 7:52 pm

Bad, bad game…not much more to say…I’ve stopped myself from posting until now because I needed time to clear my head and I didn’t want to vent on the blog. I had a bad feeling about how the game was going well before the score was out of hand, the D just couldn’t stop Nevada’s O, I said that Nevada’s OL would be a good test and I thought that their OL was winning.

It is just 1 game. UH needs 5 more to get to the Hawaii Bowl.

BYU on the road in a short week will be tough–especially when you think that BYU played 2 days ago and doesn’t have to spend a day traveling like UH has…BYU has lots more time to prepare and lots more time to heal up from their last game.

As bad as this game was, it is just 1 game. Hopefully the team avoids injuries and gets more comfortable with their new systems as the season moves along.

  605. Wes'side Warrior September 22, 2012 7:53 pm

Well, I’m out of here. Gonna crash.

Will talk story after the sun comes up… ’cause we all know it will.

    G’night, everyone.

    Chin up, Warriors!

  606. papajoe2 September 22, 2012 7:53 pm

1 of the things that I’m disappointed is that I don’t have a line up or program. I know the broadcasters mentioned him in the 1st half, I think, but who is #81? He caught a few balls toward the end of the game but they never said who he was. They kept focusing on who made the tackle. Hard to remember who is who during the game. I guess I got too used to the names on the jerseys.

Also, I was very disappointed in leaving our qb in the game. I thought that they should have given someone else a chance. Sometimes shaking things up can work. I still believe in Chow, but I think our expectations are too high.

And another thing. When did we win a game on national tv by bringing and waving ti leaves?

  607. helencalif September 22, 2012 7:54 pm

For those of us who watched the game on TV, it was painful to watch. I expected UH to play better ball than they did. We don’t have to tell Coach Chow he has problems and what those problems are.

  608. Eric September 22, 2012 7:54 pm

Why are people surprised at the result? Cmon, we have new systems in place for offense & defense with personnel who really aren’t ready yet. This is a learning/building year as we only got a 2 or 3 seniors out of 22 starters.

What I don’t want to read is how Coach Ault is a blankety-blankety-blank-blank. He kick our okoles today and he should be congratulated on his team’s win.

  609. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 7:57 pm

IMO we should have played a read/react type of D, the nevada QB was reading what our players were doing before handing off or keeping/running the ball himself. We made it easy for him.

  610. Da Punchbowl Kid September 22, 2012 7:57 pm

The important thing at this point is how we bounce back, how we respond.

“Failure leaves open a door for us to try, and try again.”

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  611. papajoe2 September 22, 2012 7:57 pm

Eric, the spooky thing about tonight’s game is Nevada was supposed to be just as young and inexperienced.

  612. Moocher September 22, 2012 7:57 pm

    My opinion….

Chow is good at a lot of things. But one thing sticks out. Chow mentioned how football is cyclical. a new type of offense comes in, it takes a while a defense to figure it then a new type of defense comes in…then to counter that a new type of offense will come in.

I’m sort of wondering if we got chow at the low point of his pendulum swing.

A good coach, yes. A good disciplinarian, yes. June Jones is an innovator, Ault is an innovator, I’d say Rolo is one as well. I don’t think I can call chow an innovator. He’s everything else for sure. But can he build a new type of innovative offense? I don’t know-i hope so.

I know he’s working with what he has which takes me to my point…should chow be incorporating more spread or run n shoot plays since that’s what this team was built for while gradually shifting them to the pro set style? I mean a hybrid package of plays of sorts depending on the down and yardage?

1st 2nd down, yeah pro set. 2nd, 3rd and long, run n shoot. Possible? At least until there’s 2-3 years of recruiting the specific players he needs for his type of offense?

And yes, defense looked beat physically and mentally. Credit Nevada.

  613. Garret September 22, 2012 7:58 pm

Just putting things in perspective about how Nevada needed to win this game and hadn’t played well before today.

Nevada lost to South Florida in Reno. The only team D-IA team that South Florida beat is Nevada. South Florida lost to Rutgers from the Big East and Ball State from the MAC.

The only D-IA school that Nevada beat before this game was Cal…and Cal is 0-3 against D-IA schools this season.

  614. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 8:00 pm

    606. Chris Gant is #81. 6′ 180lbs jr WR

  615. postmanke September 22, 2012 8:03 pm

If i’m on D I can’t wait until the next game! I believe our D is that good!

  616. papajoe2 September 22, 2012 8:04 pm

Yup, I think Fajardo did a great job reading our Warriors’ defense. A lot of times we were shooting db in and then would just throw in that area. Also, the linebackers, when were blitzing and he would exploit the area that they were, including handing off or even running the ball himself. I’m sure the UH coaches already know this and will make adjustments. We do have a good staff and need to give them time. Unfortunately, our opposition will not feel sorry for us and “let” us get by.

  617. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 8:06 pm

    612. i always thought and stated that Graves should have a spread option package that he comes in to the game to run, with counter passing plays to keep the D honest. 5-6 plays a game.

  618. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 8:10 pm

Graves is an athletic QB who would move the ball in the spread option attack. IMO

  619. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 8:12 pm

#22 made 3-4 TD saving tackles. Nevada eventually scored but Leroy Lutu seemed to always be around the ball.

  620. Eric September 22, 2012 8:13 pm

Papa Joe – but Nevada is running the same offense as they have done for years and the QB was the WAC Freshman of the Year. They may be young but their system is in place and the players that are currently playing were recruited for their system.

  621. NinjaWarriorTurtle September 22, 2012 8:13 pm

I hate to admit this but Hawaii needs to up the talent level. Fajardo and Jefferson simply play at another level. However, questions about this coaching staff does crop up when you lose this badly.

  622. d1shima September 22, 2012 8:25 pm

Nice to see the fans who chose to stick around til the game was pau still applaud the players and sing Co-ed along with the team.

I wish the students would have kept the pompoms instead of throwing them back on the field…they going want ’em back after things turn around.

    Pomai,

  624. Moocher September 22, 2012 8:39 pm

    Sawarrior….

yeah that’s pretty much i mean. have some packages that you can put in at certain times that the majority of players are comfortable with as they also execute the newer stuff.

my logic is with the success the run and shoot had, i would think some of it would be kept for certain situations considering you have the people already here who are familiar with it.

as mentioned, it’ll at least get defenses of your back when you become predictable and maybe open up new windows for you.

  628. iwonderwhytheyhateme September 22, 2012 9:00 pm

We are far from being where we want to be, far from it. It’s a rebuilding year so, alrighty.

Our offense is still stuck somewhere. Hopefully someone will find it wherever it is. When you look at our win over Lamar, it was special teams and major mistakes on Lamar’s behalf that got us 24-27 points or so. The 3 red zone opportunities we had where we came out with a total of 6 points was obviously a huge red flag.

  629. niho mano September 22, 2012 9:00 pm

We need speed on our defense…it showed tonight, and when we played USC…we will have our day…go warriors! Neveda was well balanced in passing and running.

  630. islandman September 22, 2012 9:02 pm

Nevada’s offensive line is apparently terrific. Their defense was supposed to be their weak point.

  631. madeinhawaii September 22, 2012 9:10 pm

To give up more points at home than any other team in UH history at this point of our football legacy is a real shame. Mack must be besides himself tonight. If Rolo called this game, he called it well.

  632. Pomai September 22, 2012 9:12 pm

Well I wasn’t happy with the results, but guess what, tomorrow the sun will rise and Monday the boys will be practicing. A new day and a new beginning.

First off most of the players that are on the team were recruited for a run and shoot system, it will take coach at least two years to get the type of players needed for his system. Until then we play who we have and support them win lose or draw, thats just what fans should do. I can tell you no one feels worst about this than the players themselves, so to all of you

“don’t get your panties in a bunch and just support these kids”.

  633. sean September 22, 2012 9:12 pm

I am surprised at the final score but a loss like this can make or break the season. We were outplayed by a good team that is set in their system. And like many of us think, our system will come around. I still BELIEVE this season can turn out to be pretty good, so don’t give up on Hawaii’s team!!!

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  634. cocobean September 22, 2012 9:13 pm

It was hard to sit through 4 quarters. Some random thoughts…..

Mike Edwards’ KO returns had me on the edge of my seat, was hoping he’d take one to the house.

JHT’s blocked PAT turned out to be the most significant play of the night. Kept UNR from hitting 70.

This was Kaumeyer’s first live look at Ault’s pistol O. Think he learned a lot that he’ll put to use next near. He didn’t have the accumulated knowledge in defending the pistol that our previous staff had. Seemed like blitzing (both run and pass) was a major element of his plan.

We missed Samia, Billy Ray, Joey, and Dunnachie. Not saying they would have made a difference but we needed someone to do something to break their momentum. We needed a big hit, a big catch, big run or a big kick. We couldn’t take away their momentum or keep ours.

I feel for Chow. You could tell in his voice how hurt he felt at his teams performance. Being the man he is I know he’ll accept full responsiblity and shield his coaches and players from direct criticism. I know he’ll work twice as hard(if it’s possible) in getting ready for BYU.

  635. RedZone September 22, 2012 9:17 pm

Give credit to Nevada’s oline. Any runningback could have gashed us thru those holes. I saw very little fill from our lbs. We need more to play like Yap. Moses was a huge loss. I guess Milovale will be taking over at left guard.

  636. PowderPuff September 22, 2012 9:17 pm

Sorry guys…I’m back. I couldn’t post more because the game was still going on. BUT wow, you should’ve seen Rolo’s smile. The final TD, they made sooo much noise, we could hear it a couple booths down. And I swear Rolo was staring right into the media booth smiling. Ugh, aggravating….we had no answer to wipe that smile off. 🙁

  637. madeinhawaii September 22, 2012 9:19 pm

    Pomai,

Yes the offense were recruited for the RnS.. but that doesn’t excuse the defense.

  638. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 9:20 pm

    630. our overly aggressive/attacking style defense played into the hands of a read/option pistol offense. We made it too easy for Nevada. IMO. from what i understand, when you play a read/option offense it’s better to play a read and react defense.

Nevada’s defense is one of the worse in the country, but our offense isn’t so hot. so, there you go. We have no one on offense that scares people.

  639. RedZone September 22, 2012 9:21 pm

At half time I saw Chow going after one of the referees. He was really ticked off.

  640. hightide September 22, 2012 9:21 pm

Our defense got out quicked on most of the runs. One step and the quarterback had the blitz beat. They should have sent 2 dbs or lbs into the back field on every runplay.

  641. Will-I-Am September 22, 2012 9:21 pm

Fajardo and Jefpherson is not what killed us. Those two guys had it easy because Nevada’s O-line was pushing our D-line in any direction they chose. Most of the time the runners never got touched at the line.

It also doesn’t help that our receivers dropped 7 passes, 6 of them could have been momentum changers.

On a positive. We have some superstar standouts tonight. Edwards is a freak of nature. I do not remember UH ever having a guy like that.

  642. iwonderwhytheyhateme September 22, 2012 9:22 pm

    PP,

He did a good job running Ault’s offense.

  643. PowderPuff September 22, 2012 9:25 pm

Will-I-Am and everyone else, yup, I gotta read the comments, but yes….our D-Line was getting mowed. 🙁 And Edwards…the guy had nearly 200 yards on returns. Too bad…

  644. sean September 22, 2012 9:26 pm

    cocobean

I thought the same thing. The previous regime gave UNR fits! We always gave them a hard time. You’re right! A learning experience.

  645. question September 22, 2012 9:27 pm

    Is Chow holding Graves back?

  646. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 9:27 pm

    chad owens, dana mclemore.

  647. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 9:28 pm

where can i find the post game interviews?

  648. hightide September 22, 2012 9:28 pm

The triple option was an innovation that changed the game. The pistol is the same thing except it is in the interior of the back field. Next time send more on the blitz package.

  649. Will-I-Am September 22, 2012 9:30 pm

Oh, Will Gregory was pretty amazing too. It will be exciting to watch him the rest of the year. A serious weapon.

  650. madeinhawaii September 22, 2012 9:31 pm

Chow is supposedly very familiar with the Pistol. He spent time with Ault to learn it and ran a version of it at UCLA, I believe.

  651. PowderPuff September 22, 2012 9:32 pm

The only happiness of the night was getting my photo taken with Rod Woodson. Yummmmm! 🙂

  652. Will-I-Am September 22, 2012 9:32 pm

Chad Owens was amazing but he was more of a cut and juke guy. Edwards just finds lanes on the expressway.

  653. BowNatic September 22, 2012 9:32 pm

What an ass whoopin… At least we can beat Lamar..

Where is Lamar anyways? Gonna be a LONG season…

  654. RedZone September 22, 2012 9:32 pm

BC worse than Leahey. He was getting players number wrong all night.

  655. Will-I-Am September 22, 2012 9:37 pm

I never saw Dana play. Missed him by a couple years.

  656. BowNatic September 22, 2012 9:38 pm

How Leahey keeps his job is a wonder. Tonight was an Nationally Televised Embarrassment! Bring back June Jones, at least then I was proud to wear a Hawaii jersey…

Watch my words, Hawaii will not win ONE game in the Mountain West… Not one… What an embarrassment …

  657. PowderPuff September 22, 2012 9:45 pm

    BowNatic, is that a bet?

  658. sean September 22, 2012 9:47 pm

It’s embarrassing that fans don’t support their team!!!

  660. PowderPuff September 22, 2012 9:55 pm

Eh laulau head….slugger showed me a photo of you tonight after the game. But since it was “Miller Time” for me, I was intent on making good on that. But hey, nice to see you.

    Should have said smell like…

  664. BowNatic September 22, 2012 10:06 pm

Sorry, just frustrated. I am sure that UH might win one conference game, and I do support them 100 percent. But if you all cannot see what is happening, with UH being on the verge of being demoted to a 1AA team, then that is ok.

Just pointing out the obvious. UH is pretty much a joke in the football department..

  665. BowNatic September 22, 2012 10:06 pm

Coco, nice insult. Think that up on your own?

  666. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 10:12 pm

    664. i don’t see a problem with ur posts, you’re entitled to your opinions.

  667. NinjaWarriorTurtle September 22, 2012 10:14 pm

Just as a reminder, here are two scores from June Jones’ 2004 team:

    10/29/2004 at (#18) Boise State* L 3-69

    11/12/2004 at Fresno State* L 14-70

  668. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 10:14 pm

sometimes folks here only like to hear one sided opinions… their sided opinions. sad.

  669. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 10:17 pm

    667. Ahhh, the glory/frustrating years of no defense. “here Lumpkin u handle the run defense and Miano, you coordinate the pass defense.” lol

  670. BowNatic September 22, 2012 10:18 pm

You know, I want Hawaii to win as bad as I want some sushi some days, and that is bad. Sorry I went viral. Hopefully they can turn their season around.

    Best wishes all…

  671. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 10:25 pm

    attendance numbers, anybody?

  672. PowderPuff September 22, 2012 10:47 pm

Sawarrior, tickets issued: 31K+, and turnstile was 29,002.

  673. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 10:47 pm

nvm, i saw it was 31k or so.

  674. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 10:48 pm

    thank you PP

  675. SAWARRIOR September 22, 2012 11:00 pm

… maybe ban alcohol sales, and lower ticket prices for families/group rates would help get more folks in the stands. UH should try one or two family nights per season with no alcohol served. $12 for adults, $6 for 17 and under. Make cheaper concession stand prices for the kids. 31k fans is sad for the only D1 football program in the state.

Let’s put this loss to bed. Regroup and re-focus. There’s not much time till we play BYU on Friday.

Today was difficult but thankfully…tomorrow is another day.

Good Night Folks! See you on the other side of midnight!

  679. markazulu September 22, 2012 11:28 pm

Hawaii is in a REBUILDING YEAR im not gonna excuse the score but what i mean is we are VERY VERY young, a new system, a new coach now is that an excuse as to the score being so lopsided at home NO. They need to play better but they have to learn an they might learn the hard way this year but i expect them to be better next year and even better the year after that. We have so much youth and it’ll take GAME TIME Experience for them to get the hang of the NEW offensive schemes and defense schemes. Dont call the death penalty to Norm Chow as Head coach 3rd game into his carrer wait 2 years from now to decide that. I have liked what i’ve seen from Chow so far an i think he will help our PROGRAM in the long run.

  680. markazulu September 22, 2012 11:35 pm

The best way to get butts into seats is TO WIN GAMES!! I Think they need to make better promotions to get people into seats i know its important to focus on the students at manoa but its also important to get the STATE to back them up and replaying the “lets do this together” commercial aint gonna do it. Remember 2010 we had a great team but not even they got the stadium rocking like 2006 or 2007 to me the reason why 2007 got the stadium rocking was because the MEDIA in hawaii made it seem like Hawaii football was the event to be at. Now it doesnt seem like that anymore yeah it would be better to get cheaper food pricing, more food vendors, possibly a more fan friendly experience (warrior walk is a great start)

  682. PowderPuff September 22, 2012 11:53 pm

Good points, markazulu. At this late hour, I am watching the game on my DVR – every single minute – no matter how ugly. The majority of us on the this blog and in the state do support our beloved team, and people make their own choices.

Some choose, unfortunately, to hurl online insults to the athletes and coaches. Fine, that’s your choice. Most of us…like mo808 said, knows the team will regroup, refocus…and get ready for the Cougars. And there are A LOT of us who’ll see you in San Diego.

  683. markazulu September 22, 2012 11:54 pm

I know this is a longshot but remember in 2006 & 2010 we were at 1-2 both years we finished with a great record now not saying this team is gonna be as overall good as the 2006 team that played EVERYONE well including at Alabama, at Boise, at Fresno, Purdue, and Oregon St

Im also not stating our team is gonna have a Explosive Offense and a great Take Away Defense like the 2010 team

But I think our team will find a future with Ne’quane Phillips (freshman), our very young O-line (I believe all under classmen) our VERY VERY young Running Backs (if im correct STERLING JACKSON is the only senior also Gregory is a freshman, Lister is a sophomore, iosefa sophomore, )

  684. markazulu September 23, 2012 12:28 am

Before i go to sleep take this into account here are some facts

    Hawaii has:

    Seniors-14

    Juniors-30

    Sophomores- 26

    Freshmen-32

Also if i am correct Hawaii has started in the past 3 games alone

5 Freshman (standouts: Will Gregory, Nequan Phillips, Ben Clarke)

13 Sophomores (standouts: John Lister, Joey Iosefa, Trevor Davis, Beau Yap, TJ Taimatuia, Mike Sellers, Scott Harding, Sean Shigematsu, Moses Samia)

10 Juniors (standouts: Billy Ray Stutsman, Mike Edwards, John Hardy Tuliau, Sean Schroder, Art Laurel, Kamilani Alo, Ryan Hall)

Thats alot of youth and talent i got these numbers from looking at Hawaii Roster at Hawaii Athletics.com but im pretty sure its an accurate number or close to it. The future looks bright and i didnt even list the youth that has gotten playing time this year either a lot of kids are getting playing time this year.

So dont look at this year as the DEFINING moment of the success or failure of Hawaii Football but look at it as a glimpse into not only our program but our players, our fans, and our tradition.

Its easy to cheer when we are winning its even harder to cheer when we arent but we MUST! I WILL!

Cant win them all but we can ATTEMPT to!

Norm Chow hopefully will take us back to the promise land and continue where June Jones left off and where we got a few glimpses with Coach Mac. He has done a fine job with promotion and saying the right things the few stuff with pre game looks good. Looking to more positive changes in not only our team but our fanbase.

  685. chopsueyboy September 23, 2012 1:13 am

I’m same same with you, after attending game,

    The sun is up!

    Yup!

    The sun rose this morning!

It’s gonna be a great day for our boyz and coaches to go over stuff, and then refocus on the immediate task at hand… BYU.

    Let’s go, Warriors!

  687. Kekoa September 23, 2012 2:06 am

Like a father caring for his sons, I understand their hurt. I will treat their injuries, and ready them for battle. Most of all, I will strengthen their resolve by supporting them.

Let’s go Warriors, we can still do this together.

  688. mctruck September 23, 2012 2:29 am

It’ll take a couple years for coach Chow to right the ship, but I like the direction overall.

Main thing, show up for the game and do your best guys….we all behind you.

  689. mctruck September 23, 2012 2:39 am

redzone, ur #635……I concure. wuz wondering where the lb’s were when dat NV rb kept running thru the middle of the line?? made it look much too easy, untouched for his record, six(6) td runs???

  691. maddog50 September 23, 2012 3:32 am

Terrible half of football….dropped passes, missed assignments, missed tackles, something lacking at times in effort. That being said, critic of the team or Coach, no way. I think I know exactly what is taking place. I for one will not waiver one bit in my support of the Warriors or the staff….I still believe that this team will turn out b etter than predicted. If you are a fan then you should support what is being done and where it will lead….always easy to find fault.

  692. wafan September 23, 2012 3:35 am

    A good Sunday, all.

Sun not quite out with lots of clouds.

nevada.s quaterback and running backs were good and exploited hawaii,s over agressive defense, kaumeyer does not have too much experience with the option, but hopefully will learn from this game. I think norm chow ran the ball too much, knowing that iosefa was out and nevada,s weakness on defense was against the pass not the run, shoud have tried to pass more to set up the run when the running game was not working . Too bad they did not put in graves when they knew they had too pass too catch up being shroeder is not very mobile too avoid sacks.

  697. mokumanu September 23, 2012 4:20 am

It’s going to take time. Much was debated about what to call the football team. Warriors never give up whether there’s a “rainbow” or not. There’s still a pot of gold at the end.

Hardly ever agree with Bobby C but his statement “we have some very good players just not enough of them” still sticks in my mind.

Today I as expecting to hear the “Fire Norm” chant from the fans but that would be premature. Maybe if I see another game like this in his 3rd year. The Hoover Dam wasn’t built in a day.

  714. Inyoface September 23, 2012 6:24 am

We should move back to the previous sideline

  716. kapakahi September 23, 2012 6:41 am

    #667,

Those were away game blow-out losses. Home blow-out losses are definitely worse.

BTW, the 2004 team rebounded to beat Northwestern and Michigan State……then UAB in the Hawaii Bowl.

  717. expat September 23, 2012 6:50 am

That was pretty hard to watch. Congrats to Rolo as he thoroughly out coached Chow. I think he answered doubters last night as to whether he could only call the R&S. That was a double revenge game for Nevada’s offense. Ault finally got that monkey off his back and Rolo showed up the guy who did not want to keep him around.

Our offense did not look good, but 24 pts will win a lot of games. Allowing 69 pts, or however many you hang on the D, will not win many games.

Nevada could do very well in the conference this year considering that Boise State is having a hard time finding their legs.

Meanwhile June Jones is also sitting at 1-2 with a victory over an FCS team. The grass is always greener…

  724. papajoe2 September 23, 2012 7:52 am

Someone mentioned earlier on this blog about how the media would get the fans excited in 2004, 2006 and 7, therefore larger crowds. In those days, there were 2 newspapers. Competition makes it more interesting with a wider point of view by respected news writers. In those days, there was also Aloha Airlines, Superferry, and more. It has nothing to do with attendance but just thought I’d mention it. 🙂

  725. wafan September 23, 2012 7:54 am

Way larger crowds in the 70’s and 80’s.

  726. wafan September 23, 2012 7:59 am

School will be interesting. Hoping I can infect a few of the kids.

    Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!

  727. Bigislandkurt September 23, 2012 8:01 am

Remember, this was a game we were supposed to lose. Didn’t think that it was going to be by this much. ouch. It just seemed like our boys played like deer in the headlights all night long. To catch a beating like that at home can destroy a team’s psyche. Coaching is going to play a crucial role this week.

Onward with the Chow era. Keep improving and keep getting better. Nevada exposed some deep pukas last night.

    BIK

  728. islandman September 23, 2012 8:05 am

In an interview on 1420 , a Nevada sportswriter said Chris Ault still has final say on the offensive plays and probably calls the plays himself. Rolo has not been given control of the offense.

  729. koakane ip4 September 23, 2012 8:08 am

    morning warrior and whine country

  730. Harvard September 23, 2012 8:10 am

Looking at the positives can’t get any lower than last night only way to go is up. Also was so nice to meet all you tsiko’s yesterday and welcoming my wife and I into your Ohana. It’s a young team and Coach Chow first recruiting class most have red shirted so in a couple years it should turn around. We will be cheering them on till then.

  731. papajoe2 September 23, 2012 8:11 am

No PPV then too. I think once the general public uses PPV, they will not attend games as frequently. I am guilty as I used to be a season ticket holder for many years. With PPV, friends and family get together. If some cannot make it, that’s OK. Can prepare you own food and have you own drinks, so no to need buy inflated priced food at the stadium and worry about parking and fights in the stands. Also, the bathroom is right there. Unless we have an undefeated team, I don’t think we will ever fill the stadium. Like I said, I am guilty, but with people pitching to buy PPV its much cheaper for a guy with a fixed income. Besides, wife works the night shift and cannot attend most games. With blow out losses like last night, can just turn off the tv, turn channel, lower the volume or just watch it and suffer with the other fans. I’m glad the PPV’s prices are higher than season tickets to help UH, but with multiple people watching, UH is losing money. If there was no PPV, I still wouldn’t/cannot attend most games. I love the tailgating with the Tsaikos though.

  732. Shoko September 23, 2012 8:13 am

That would be a reasonable assumption given Ault’s propensity to micro-manage his team. Rolo’s duties are probably limited until Ault feels comfortable. Ault probably sees potential in Rolo, but also sees inexperience, too.

The last OC that Ault had confidence in was Chris Klenakis who is now at Arkansas and was poached by Petino several years ago. Klenakis played a key role in the Pack’s O-line (The Union) in terms of gap blocking that makes the Pistol a effective run-first offense.

  733. Shoko September 23, 2012 8:17 am

I was as a bit surprised of the attendence for last nights game. I thought the numbers would be closer to 40k, like the last time the Pack came to Hawaii.

  734. SAWARRIOR September 23, 2012 8:17 am

    720. the way i understand it, the NFL network is their normal channel, if you want all the games you have to pay for it like the ESPN Gameplan. The NFL network does show games, like the Hall of Fame Game, thursday night games and later in the year, saturday games. the NFL Network has TV shows much like ESPN does.

  735. LizKauai (iPad) September 23, 2012 8:18 am

    Aloha Kakahiaka!

    738. chow said shroeder made 2 dumb mistakes.

  743. Shoko September 23, 2012 8:29 am

If not mistaken, Chow said Schroeder made a couple of “dumb” decisions. Such as the deep pass in the end zone near the end of the first half. Saw Chow chewing Schroeder out when he was on the sideline.

  744. Kapanui September 23, 2012 8:36 am

Bright spot: Mike Edwards is now #2 in the nation (NCAA stats via espn.com) for kick returns.

  745. papajoe2 September 23, 2012 8:37 am

Hard to see on TV because the cameras just showing 1 area, but I did see some open receivers when our qb got sacked. Also, on 4th down and 3/4 yards our qb went for it all by throwing the ball down field and hoping our receiver would get the ball. Receiver was well covered and had no chance. Also, besides the dropped passes, It doesn’t seem like we have the type of receivers that would go after the ball to make a catch. I’m talking about fighting the db (no not getting an interference call) even in tight coverage. Most of the time it seems like the receivers have to be by themselves to make a catch and even then, are dropping passes. I also noticed the they are having a hard time getting seperation. I hope they learn quickly and also UH get recruits that can do such. A person that attends most practices told me that the receivers have a hard time hanging on to the passes. I guess in big games, what bad that happens in practice, happens in the game.

  746. cincodemayonnaisse September 23, 2012 8:41 am

Lol at the people who make this a Rolo/Chow competition. Chow is a HC who inherited a floundering team, Rolo went to one that was already winning. Chow is a HC who’s responsibility is to coordinate a whole teams success. Rolo is an OC who concentrates on the results of the offense.

If anything Rolo bested Kaumeyer. And I dunno about you but the pistol beat us, not the R&S…..hardly a Rolo invention.

For the record if I’m a respected offensive mind, I’d do the same thing….I’d bring in guys who I feel can run my system, why would you keep a guy from a program your trying to further when he was part of the reason they floundered?

Happy Rolo landed on his feet but let’s not have short term memories on why we had to hire a new HC and staff.

And great to see the rats jumping ship, it leaves more room for the sensible ones with the ability to apply some type of context to the task at hand.

  747. SAWARRIOR September 23, 2012 8:43 am

rolo did nothing but call out the formations of the hawaii defense, who are we kidding.

  748. Kevin September 23, 2012 8:43 am

    Kapanui,

    Very bright spot indeed!

  749. Old School Dave September 23, 2012 8:45 am

This is still a work in progress, as most UH fans seem to understand. Let Coach bring in 2-3 more recruiting classes, then make an assessment. Props to Nevada, they were the better team in all aspects. Nevada executed to perfection and UH didn’t.

For what it’s worth BYU is NOT as good as Nevada, so “get chance” next week at Provo.

  750. Kevin September 23, 2012 8:45 am

Speaking of rats. Friend’s wife remarked that the wolf mascot looked more like a rat than a wolf with its short rounded ears.

Had to have moments of humour after all to maintain sanity. 😆

  751. papajoe2 September 23, 2012 8:51 am

I don’t meen to harp on the Warriors as I am just as frustrated like any fan. I do see good things ahead for the Warriors and back them 100% and will always will back them. They are my favorite team in the whole wide world and have always been. Just sometimes my coaching gets in the way. I always see the negative and try to correct it yet, at the same time praise the positive. I guess I need to do more of the later, but you got to admit, losing by 45 points means there were a lot more negatives than positives on both sides of the ball.

  752. SAWARRIOR September 23, 2012 8:52 am

our DC had the wrong scheme/mind set going into a game against a read option offense. an overly aggressive defense plays right into the hands of a read option offense. the nevada qb had to simple wait for his “key” commit then hand-off or keep himself. a read and react defense would have been the way to go, IMO. screen passes, draws, quick slants, qb option etc.. all easy play calls against our D. we played the same D versus USC.

  753. papajoe2 September 23, 2012 8:52 am

#750, Thanks Kevin, we needed that. 🙂

    751. nothing wrong with stating your opinion, in your way. stating an opinion in a positive or negative way makes you no less or no more a warrior fan like some like to think, of course IMO.

  757. papajoe2 September 23, 2012 8:58 am

3-Prong, once when I was in Acapulco, Mexico on a cruise, I told some young women that I used to be the stunt diver for Elvis in the movie “Fun In Acapulco”. They didn’t know who he was. bwahahahaha

  758. LizKauai (iPad) September 23, 2012 8:58 am

From my catbird’s seat in yellow above the pressbox, it was like watching the Warriors thring to play football in a forest filled with tall trees that could run. The sneaky qb handoffs were successful all night long. It made the most of the penalty-threat of roughing the QB.

My fave move was the hand tackle.

I think the Dee should practice more hand tackles and ankle tackles for the next time they are faced with the big and tall teams.

And props to Mike Edwards whose abilities were greatly respected by our opponents. It was great to see my homeboy Saui get a runback from KO last night!

    Go Warriors!
