Coach Chow wasn’t happy with the offense in the first half. I have to agree. Even with the score the way it is, the first string offense needs to stay in until they get fully clicking. Gotta remember that 7 points came off the blocked punt and another 7 came right after they recovered the muffed punt. Defense on the other hand is playing quite well. Would be good to see the offense march right down the field to start the second half like they did against USC.

When that Lamar head coach met Coach Chow at midfield, he towered over Chow. How tall is he? Few penalties against the offense, which is a good sign. Schroeder is looking more secure. He’s more reliable than flashy. Lister and Gregory looked real good. Lot of different plays than what was shown against SC. Defense looks more solid when the dbacks aren’t challenged as much. That two point recovery by Lamar brought back awful memories from last year. Hope it doesn’t happen again this season. Please.

USC lost to Stanford today. I think UH exposed their weakness in their defensive line and running game. We basically stopped USC’s run game. We just gave up too many big explosive plays. Stanford controlled the second half and just ran the ball down USC’s throat especially in the fourth quarter. I’m excited to see UH beat Nevada.

Something happened with the student section that caught my attention. While waiting for my friends who were in line at the Leo’s Taverna stand next to the gates that feed into the student section, I saw a lot.. I mean A LOT of students waiting to get in.
I guess the ushers do some kind of ID check or whatever to make sure they are UHM students. Anyway, I saw the entire line of students, close to a hundred of them, start walking away. It looked like the section may have been filled….
When we got to our seats in the North end zone, we could clearly see that the student section was NOT filled to capacity. Those students that got turned away were scrambling to just sit in the open seats above the UH marching band and all over the place.
SO… WTH?
My Mom was watching da game on OC16. Hope she recorded it for me.

I shouldnt be surprised… Sounds like a back-wards thinking response from certain Hawaii folks.
Not gonna get into much game comments other than tonight’s opponent was clearly over-matched and Hawaii took care of business after a little bit of a slow start.
Some comments on peripheral items:
– team intro and entrance was terrific! A very business-like walk out of the tunnel and doing the ha’a then as opposed to an hour before game time is much more effective. If the team is going to continue doing a ha’a, then this is the way and time to do it.
– very few organizational issues (substitution snafus, personnel problems, etc.)
– I am in the habit of booking outta there at or just prior to the final gun is a game that is clearly decided but hearing the loud cheer from inside and then band playing Co-ed followed by another loud cheer from the remaining crowd makes me think that Coach is trying to establish a great tradition that all fans can enjoy and appreciate after a hard-fought contest.

People can maximize the amount of UH sporting events they go to if they do simple things like not planning to eat your evening meal at EVERY event you go to. It can be pricey.
For years, I’ve eaten after games and only purchased a beer occasionally and mostly get a soda or water throughout the event. Baseball, I will spend more on food only because the ticket price is so cheap.
I got Slugger on video stopping Coach Chow to say hello and causing a bottleneck. Lol jk. But, you are on video. Haha.
next game will be the real test against an opponent closer in talent and skill level to our boyz.
What a game. I said this before and I will say it again. Chow does not look like a first time head coach. His attention to detail is amazing. Even when the players came out to practice before the game it is like everything had been choreographed. And during the game players were going in and out at such a quick pace. I really like our new offense.

Well, MWC was 1-1 against the PAC-12 this week. Fresno St. over Colorado yesterday and Washington St. over UNLV on Friday. Colorado St. got clobbered by San Jose St. The Spartans’ earlier 3-point loss to Stanford looks significant now. Glad they aren’t on our schedule this year, they’d be tough. San Diego State is going to have their hands full next week.
