Game day: Colorado State

Not sure how to spell the sound of a whistle — tweeeeet? — but the second half of the Rainbow Warriors’ regular season starts today.

Will things be different? Better?

    Good luck boys!

  3. kev-1 October 26, 2013 8:36 am

One of the changes I was hoping to see was Taylor Graham back. I guess I’ll just hope that things are in fact better so I feel better about our QB situation.

Being a Mets fan means never watching the postseason in about a decade.

  7. Stephen Tsai October 26, 2013 8:43 am

    WarriorNY
It’s interesting how the MW can block out those feeds in Hawaii.

  8. kev-1 October 26, 2013 8:47 am

    #6 . . . man I miss the Mets.

  9. markazulu October 26, 2013 8:47 am

  12. oneseason October 26, 2013 8:58 am

Season 2.5 (as someone coined it) starts today. Still happy last week was a bye. Coaches have planned and coached. Colorado State is only 3 and 4. Let’s go Rainbow Warriors and do your best!

  13. 3-Prong October 26, 2013 8:58 am

Let’s Go Bows! Today is Da Day!

  14. A-House October 26, 2013 9:04 am

For the last half to be better, #1 the players must execute all their assignments well and #2, and most important, the Coaches must do a better job in recognition and making the necessary adjustments on offense and defense.

someone brought up the “audible” a few days ago – I don’t believe Chow has given the “green light” to any QB this season – I agree that it can be most useful in certain situations – perhaps it’s a “comfort factor” for Chow

will the “second half” be better than the first? at most, UH may win 4 games.

many times I wonder how a coaching staff approaches each game – in the military, the “commander” gives his missions statement; then each staff officer is responsible for creating a number of scenarios with supporting statements to support same and select the best option and reasons why; this is then presented to the commander by all staff officers; commander then selects the option he feels to best accomplish the mission; staff then puts the plan into motion; as the battle progresses, commanders must be briefed so decisions can be made, if necessary, to enhance success.

the above must occur BEFORE practices begin to allow each position coach to relay the HC’s decision and teach his players what must be done to be successful

  15. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 26, 2013 9:19 am

They better win this one…that’s all I got to say.

  16. Hank October 26, 2013 9:21 am

I’d like to see us win the First 3-Quarters…not only the Fourth. This is on our HC and young coaching staff. We have enough talent.

    Go Warriors!

  17. Hank October 26, 2013 9:23 am

Our players have not given up…Like USC did when they gave up against ASU. The HC had lost control. I don’t think it will happen to us, but when it happens, it’s not hard to recognize.

  18. UHfan808 October 26, 2013 9:27 am

    Good morning, Tsai-kos and Lurk-ers! 😀

Homecoming Game Day has finally arrived! Woohooo!!!

Hopeful that this second half season will be more like the second halves of games where they’ve hung together tougher to make a comeback! I know they can put it all together all in one game – I believe!!!

GO WARRIORS!!! 🙂 GO US WARRIOR FANS!!! 🙂

  19. A-joe October 26, 2013 9:29 am

Norm Chow. All eyes will be on the QB.

  25. Old Diver October 26, 2013 10:27 am

CSU is one of the few winnable games left. It’s now or maybe never. Go Warriors.

  26. cocobean October 26, 2013 10:29 am

    reality 0-6.

My thought is the record is on the coaching staff. As a staff they just haven’t learned how to win, the light bulb just hasn’t gone on for them. And it’s not for a lack of effort. In my opinion this staff probably puts in the most hours and effort than any staff in our conference. Chow wouldn’t have it any other way. Maybe it’s a case of trying too hard. Trying too hard in getting EVERYTHING connected to a D1 football program correct.

I said this before that Chow is too involved with EVERYTHING that sometimes he can’t see the forrest for the trees. The details are clouding his vision of the big picture–WINNING.
In my opinion he should take a step back and delegate more. Chill a bit….grow a beard, let his hair grow……

  27. Balko October 26, 2013 10:46 am

I really hope the coaches spent their time prepping for the game: these players deserve the coaches’ best effort (way beyond making the players wear wrist bands that suggest the payers weren’t trying hard enough prior to this game).

I’m also curious to see how many people either attend the game or buy the PPV. WIth no disrespect to the Honorary Captain Al Noga, if this is the best idea Ben Jay and NC have to pump up the attendance, we are in trouble. At least AN got paid a nice appearance fee for the day.

As we head into the game today with a gaggle of QBs, I find myself recalling a post-game interview NC gave after the USC game where NC said fixing the QB’s problems displayed in that game would be easy. At the time, I though that is one over confident coach, but maybe he has a trick or two up his sleeve after all these years working with offenses. Now, its clear it was hubris.

Lastly, NC was lauded here for his handwritten thank you letters for donations. Before we cannonize him for sainthood, remember the story from this year that head coaches are hand writing so many letters to recruits (50 to 100 letters per day) that carpal tunnel wrist braces will be the new haute couture for head coaches (see http://www.sbnation.com/college-football-recruiting/2013/3/26/4148630/college-football-recruit-letters-kentucky-drew-barker). And these are successful coaches.

  34. NYUHTx October 26, 2013 11:00 am

Mets, Jets, Nets. But the Warriors are always first. It looked like the game was going to be streamed tonight on MWC for those off island.

  35. Warrior fan October 26, 2013 11:00 am

A win tonight will turn this season around! #Warriors

  36. 99club October 26, 2013 11:25 am

Anybody in the islands can stream the game if they use a VPN service like Witopia. For example, my IP is in Dublin right now. Hmmmm…I need to go buy some Guiness for the game! Later.

  37. hilo-warrior October 26, 2013 12:01 pm

we have been progressing as a team and nearly pulled out a few big wins. with that said i feel we qill get thw qinning ways rolling

  38. pu'uwai October 26, 2013 12:01 pm

Adjustments need to be made regularly during the game instead of waiting for half time or when the score is out of reach.

We have good players. Coaches need to get it together. Players need to stop the penalties and execute the plays.

    Imua Rainbow Warriors!!!

  39. Niho Mano October 26, 2013 12:04 pm

Rainbow Warrior Football…the battle cry…WIN; WIN; WIN…go play football and have fun.

  40. A-joe October 26, 2013 12:08 pm

Howzit 99club! We need to get together someday and toss back a few while SRV growls for us in the background. =)

  41. Boya_jr October 26, 2013 12:16 pm

    Go Warriors!

  42. PolyMom October 26, 2013 12:21 pm

    Prayed for a Win!

    GO BOWS!

  43. 99club October 26, 2013 12:22 pm

Hey A-joe! That sounds good. I’m really into Gary Clark Jr. right now…I have tickets to see him next month in Austin at Antone’s. So for this year he’s opened for the Rolling Stones and 6-nights at Royal Albert Hall with Clapton. Click on my handle for a promo vid.

The WARRIORS are dogs at home tonight. I like them to win outright. They’ve shown they can put points on the board and they’ll do it tonight!

  44. Warrior Dave October 26, 2013 12:43 pm

    Poly Mom,

Pray for a win is something different. Couldn’t hurt to try.

  45. Inyoface October 26, 2013 12:46 pm

No need stream um if you live on the island, go to da game.

  46. SteveM October 26, 2013 12:53 pm

    RE: #40 and #43
Seeing A-Joe and 99club (TX) exchange greetings made we wonder when they first met. Then I recalled UH-UNLV game day in 2007.

As I recall, 99club was staying downtown and was looking for a carpool/ride to the stadium. A-Joe offered a ride on the blog and they arranged to meet at the Nugget. They managed to meet and went to rasu begau’s tailgate restaurant and the game. I think it was decided that 99club would drive his truck–and A-Joe had a load of placards to distribute… href=”http://home.roadrunner.com/~smurashi/tsai-kos/t-images/2007-lvtsaikos.jpg”> Click here to see A-Joe’s load. 🙂

  47. SteveM October 26, 2013 12:58 pm

Ooops… Click here to see A-Joe’s load.

Anyway, that’s how some Tsai-kos meet.
Let me know if you are attending the Navy game and not currently listed at:
    http://home.roadrunner.com/~smurashi/tsai-kos/away13.html

  48. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 1:24 pm

UNLV and UNR… Stop it with the big plays already. After a grinder for 1.5 quarters, now both teams have 3 fast TDs.

Hopefully the slow start keeps them under the total.

  49. Olala October 26, 2013 2:29 pm

Win or Lost I support Hawaii!!!
    Let’s go Warriors!!!

  50. Mauigroup October 26, 2013 2:50 pm

    UH 20 – CS 35

UH is not going to win!

  51. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 3:11 pm

Nevada-Reno’s crowd is starting to realize they might lose to UNLV… Very quiet at Mackey Stadium. UNLV has put together multiple grinding drives vs Reno in 2nd half.

Why can’t UNR make this many mistakes vs UH…. Multiple dropped passes, fumbles, mental errors by the QB…

UNLV keeps hitting UNR in the same pocket in their intermediate zone between the LBs on pass plays all game and Polian has made no adjustment. Just an easy 8-10 yards every time UNLV wants to throw.

  52. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 3:13 pm

Oh what a catch by Davonte Davis (UNLV)!!!! That was awesome. That might ice the game, but it wouldn’t be UNLV if they don’t let UNR mount a comeback.

  53. Stephen Tsai October 26, 2013 3:18 pm

Whoa. Why is it so humid? Does this portend rain tonight?

  54. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 3:24 pm

Well…. UNLV being UNLV…. UNR easily drives and scores to close gap. Can UNLV close the show and take home the cannon?

  55. Warrior Dave October 26, 2013 3:31 pm

Flash flood warnings until Sunday afternoon. Bring a poncho tonight.

  56. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 3:31 pm

Can someone explain how you can be awarded two 15 yards late hits on one play? UNLV was awarded 30 yards…

UNLV being UNLV…. They can’t squash the clock an now UNR has a chance with 2:15 to go 88yds and a time out….

More UNLV being UNLV…. Late hit on sideline give Reno 15 yards.

  57. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 3:43 pm

Polian/Rolo era off to a rough start… UNLV defeats UNR 27-22.

UNR falls to 3-5 and lose the Fremont Cannon to UNLV for the first time in 8 years.

Rolo went Run n Shoot (shotgun 4 wide) on the 4th & 4… Ran a 3 yard out to the slot and UNLV anticipated it and the CB blew it up. Even if caught, no chance for 1st down.

Pretty sure Polian is going to get alittle heat from Ault and the boosters for losing to their bitter rivals to the south.

  58. Stephen Tsai October 26, 2013 4:07 pm

Broken elevator = funky smelling press box/coaches booth.

  59. LizKauai (mbp) October 26, 2013 4:07 pm

Warriors will get the W tonight!!!

  60. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 4:25 pm

Ducks just put the dagger in UCLA… Just scored to go up 35-14 in 4thQ.

My friends were arguing against me that Brett Hundley is overrated…. Gotta say they were right. He’s done absolutely nothing to show me he’s a top flight QB. He looks like “a system QB” that only throws when he sees open targets. He doesn’t anticipate at all.

I think Mora needs to take the training wheels off Hundley…. He went 13-19 for 63yards… Yes that’s correct.

The good news is Hundley has a couple more years in college to improve.

    — the Ole Ball Coach (S. Carolina) just made what could be a crucial clock/timeout management error by wasting a time out on a 3rd and goal down 10 pts. They didn’t need a TD, so a failed 3rd down wasn’t a big deal. They failed on 3rd and kicked a FG to get within 7, but now have one less timeout with 5 minutes left.

  61. Slugger October 26, 2013 4:36 pm

    tofuzuke,

I got the World Series on my Jumbotron (TV) & waiting for the UH FB game on the small screen (PC). LOL

Let’s win one for the Gipper! Let’s go, boyz!

    GO RAINBOW WARRIORS!!!

  62. Stephen Tsai October 26, 2013 5:11 pm

Today’s uniform scheme: Green tops, green pants.

  63. oldie October 26, 2013 5:14 pm

Wow! The audio commercials are going full blast even with very few here in the stadium. I hope the stadium doesn’t get paid by the number of fans that actually hear them.

  64. oldie October 26, 2013 5:28 pm

ST, And white numerals that you can actually read.

  65. oldie October 26, 2013 5:29 pm

Is there going to be a retro night? If so, when?

  66. Stephen Tsai October 26, 2013 5:33 pm

    Oldie:
Yes, my 53-year-old eyes can see the numbers.

  67. Stephen Tsai October 26, 2013 5:34 pm

Uh, oh, dark cards are approaching.

  68. WarriorNY October 26, 2013 5:35 pm

  69. kawika49 October 26, 2013 5:43 pm

    So far.

  70. Slugger October 26, 2013 5:46 pm

So good to see Kolton Wong in the World Series and ON Base. Keep it going, Cards!

Fun to see ST on the broadcast with the Big Guy.

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  71. oldie October 26, 2013 5:48 pm

  75. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 6:21 pm

C’mon Gant!!!! You gotta fight for the ball better than that.

  76. Jeezy33 October 26, 2013 6:22 pm

    Daley is terrible

  77. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 6:26 pm

Jeezy… Dailey has disappeared since he got knocked out of the Oregon St game. Hasn’t been the same since he came back.

St Juste is loose! Huge KO return.

  78. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 6:28 pm

    Oh my god….

  79. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 26, 2013 6:28 pm

Ladies and gentlemen, this game is horseshit thus far.

  80. Committed Road Warrior October 26, 2013 6:28 pm

    Oh boy….

  81. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 6:28 pm

    Hands buried in face…

  82. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 26, 2013 6:29 pm

I apologize for my language…I’m just frustrated right now. Sorry to all.

  83. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 6:30 pm

Time to start spinning the QB carousel…

  84. WarriorNY October 26, 2013 6:31 pm

Well we’re down 14… Let’s see if the trend of us playing well while down 14 continues…

  85. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 6:31 pm

Players need to step it up. The opportunities are there.

St Juste is looking great as the kick returner…. 2 very solid returns thus far.

  86. mo808 October 26, 2013 6:32 pm

    wth was that?

  87. Babo October 26, 2013 6:32 pm

Oh another butt whoopin….. Hmm… This time homecoming…… Why do I even hold out hope?

  88. NorthShoreFan October 26, 2013 6:32 pm

Decided o forgo watching the game on tv…now I might forego watching the radio….I feel embarrassed..don’t know why but ….

  89. Jack Flash October 26, 2013 6:33 pm

We have the worst offense in all of college football. I’m tired of this.

  90. mo808 October 26, 2013 6:33 pm

    What the heck?

  91. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 6:33 pm

    83. No worries bro. I think everybody is in same mood.

  92. mo808 October 26, 2013 6:34 pm

    Finally!

  93. mo808 October 26, 2013 6:35 pm

    Lets get it started!

  94. mo808 October 26, 2013 6:36 pm

    GO BOWS!!!

  95. NorthShoreFan October 26, 2013 6:36 pm

The first 7 minutes should be kept as a teaching tool

  96. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 6:36 pm

Marcus Kemp sighting as he bails out a terrible SS throws nice catch there.

Let the Jekyll and Hyde begin…. TD Hawaii

CSU can’t cover UH’s WRs… It’s up to SS to hit them.

  97. mo808 October 26, 2013 6:37 pm

    D

  98. mo808 October 26, 2013 6:38 pm

    😀

  99. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 6:40 pm

UH has the momentum now and the defense is fired up now… LETS GO!

  100. WarriorNY October 26, 2013 6:41 pm

I agree with you FUHA, CSU can’t cover our WR… I hope Coach Chow opens it up a little bit more…

  101. NorthShoreFan October 26, 2013 6:42 pm

Not sure about the workings of a “false start” penalty but stadium seems quiet, maybe some guys hard of hearing? not sure what the count is supposed to be?…7 games into the season already…

  102. mo808 October 26, 2013 6:43 pm

    Defense!!!

  103. NorthShoreFan October 26, 2013 6:43 pm

no need to cover receivers if qb don’t have time to throw

  104. Jeezy33 October 26, 2013 6:45 pm

    Another Daley missed tackle

  105. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 26, 2013 6:45 pm

Ton of credit to students for showing up tonight in a decent number.

  106. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 6:50 pm

On the plus side, UH played as poorly as possible, but only down 7.

SS has more passing yards in 1stQ than Brett Hundley had all game.

OLine is stinking it up in the run game again… Lakalaka and DSJ have nowhere to go

  107. Jeezy33 October 26, 2013 6:53 pm

Touchdown Daley …. Do we have anyone else at MLB ??

  108. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 26, 2013 6:54 pm

Can someone fire a signal flare when our secondary and linebackers decide to show up to the same game I’m watching?

    Mahalo!

  109. oneseason October 26, 2013 6:54 pm

Please no more runs up the middle

  110. Jack Flash October 26, 2013 6:55 pm

Defense might be worse than our offense.

  111. mo808 October 26, 2013 7:00 pm

    He’ got it!

  112. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 7:00 pm

    Jekyll and Hyde…….

  113. NorthShoreFan October 26, 2013 7:00 pm

who said Jekyll & Hyde?…spot on!

  114. 99club October 26, 2013 7:00 pm

Now that was a sweet throw and catch! Yoohoo!

  115. NorthShoreFan October 26, 2013 7:02 pm

this is like watching Puig play right field for the Dodgers…sometimes great sometimes not so great…this team is killing me!?!@#@!!?

  116. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 7:02 pm

Missing Jackson is hurting the back end a bit. Not sure how long Kaumeyer can stick with Daley or Laurel, they have been awful so far.

  117. mo808 October 26, 2013 7:03 pm

Dagnabbit! No more give ups! Play to Winnit!

  118. mo808 October 26, 2013 7:06 pm

    Way to go Defense!

  119. NorthShoreFan October 26, 2013 7:11 pm

if the punter is on the move when he kicks the ball and he gets tackled after the ball is away, is that roughing the kicker?

  120. Wes'side Warrior October 26, 2013 7:12 pm

    Come on, Defense!!!

  121. NorthShoreFan October 26, 2013 7:13 pm

    come on D..need a stop!

didn’t mean to use 12 guys

  123. 99club October 26, 2013 7:18 pm

#120 Northshorefan – I think that once he starts running with the ball he’s a runner. Even when he eventually kicks it. So no roughing the ‘kicker.’

  124. NorthShoreFan October 26, 2013 7:18 pm

    Kennedy injure right elbow…dang it!

  125. Jack Flash October 26, 2013 7:18 pm

  128. Wes'side Warrior October 26, 2013 7:21 pm

I keep losing audio connection with 1420am on this computer. Feels like I feel… listening, trying to cheer, but not too loud with a sore throat… and getting cut off from the radio every few minutes, so gotta keep hitting refresh. What a weekend…

  129. mo808 October 26, 2013 7:21 pm

    Let’s Go O!

  162. 99club October 26, 2013 7:41 pm

Oregon St. vs. Stanford’s a pretty good game right now on ESPN. OK, it’s the only game on.

  163. sdbowfan October 26, 2013 7:42 pm

Five turnovers. Great job coaching staff. Next time bring some coaches with UH ties.

  164. Wes'side Warrior October 26, 2013 7:42 pm

Wish we just went for it…

Guess we want to keep the point spread where it’s at for now so the comeback looks more impressive… or something.

Or is that my medication talking?

Well, out the door for now. Back in a bit. Laterz, gotta pick up da oldest dottah.

  165. Jack Flash October 26, 2013 7:43 pm

Norm Chow and his coaches are completely inept. We have talent, but our coaching is horrible.

  166. WarriorNY October 26, 2013 7:47 pm

  173. kifi October 26, 2013 7:59 pm

    What’s the score?

  174. kifi October 26, 2013 8:00 pm

    Thanks.

  175. Sdbowfan October 26, 2013 8:01 pm

I sense an arrogance in Ben Jay. He will not last long in the Islands….

  176. mo808 October 26, 2013 8:02 pm

    Kifi, it’s ugly at UH 17-CSU 35

  177. kiipua October 26, 2013 8:03 pm

Ben Jay (paraphrased): “We started from mediocrity and now we have to build from the ground up.”

    Huh?

    Dear Ben,

I know Hawai’i geography is tricky and pidgin isn’t your native tongue, but last I heard “mediocre” is English and is *not* synonymous to *bottom* — which is where we are RIGHT NOW.

Also, you are NO “local boy.” Local boys know the difference btw pilau and lau-lau. So stop selling us pilau at lau-lau prices.

  178. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 8:04 pm

Yikes, stepped away for a bit and just saw the HT box score….

UH can’t stop the run. CSU had 165 on the ground and 313 total. Just horrendous.

I see the OLine has been horrible in run blocking…. Lakalaka and DSJ have a combined total of 22yds on 9 attempts. That is unacceptable.

Well…. At least the over is looking safe, only need one more TD to hit the over… so I’ll make something out of this mess.

Then again, maybe UH has them right where they want them??? The deep balls are there for the taking vs CSU’ secondary.

  179. mo808 October 26, 2013 8:04 pm

Okay, deep breath…exhale! Second half now, chance for make a stand and WIN ‘um!

  180. NorthShoreFan October 26, 2013 8:08 pm

Warriors run total for the half…2 yards!

  181. Boya_jr October 26, 2013 8:10 pm

Im going to drink and magically we will win. At Halloween party in San Fran, I feel like I’m the curse so I’m not going to check the score until I go to sleep. Please Warriors come out to plaaaayy

  182. Slugger October 26, 2013 8:15 pm

Safe travels tonight, boya_jr. Maybe they will win if you go party.

I don’t think I can stay awake to watch the rest of the game. Took some NAU Hawaiian club students to our halau highway cleanup today & I am a tired buckaroo.

I saw you George D-L! GO WARRIORS!!!

    Night all!

  183. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 8:15 pm

Fresno has looked incredibly ragged at SDSU… Tied 28-28 4thQ.

SDSU has chance to win on final drive….

  184. oneseason October 26, 2013 8:17 pm

The CSU pass defense does not seem that good. Why would you call for run after run for a yard or two?

  185. NorthShoreFan October 26, 2013 8:18 pm

Don’t know where Coach will start to address the problems this game has exposed. Glad I’m not the coach.
One area is to get Demo and Kaumeyer on the same page of get rid of one of them. That “Feud” can’t be on display every game!

  186. Warrior fan October 26, 2013 8:20 pm

    C’mon UH!!

  187. Warrior fan October 26, 2013 8:22 pm

CSU is man handling our Defense…SMH

  188. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 8:22 pm

SDSU has a FG attempt to beat Fresno…. About 38 or 39 yards………

  189. mo808 October 26, 2013 8:26 pm

    Cheer team rocks!

  190. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 8:27 pm

Oh my god the Mountain West is terrible is year….

Fresno partially blocked the FG attempt and NO GOOD! Overtime cometh…

If there was way an undefeated MWC team fails to get a BCS invite, this might be the year. Fresno is definitely the worst undefeated remaining (for now)…. What kills me is that I hate Fresno, but for the good of UH, we need them to make a BCS game and UH can get the BCS bowl revenue share.

  191. mo808 October 26, 2013 8:30 pm

    Go D

  192. NorthShoreFan October 26, 2013 8:32 pm

  197. kiipua October 26, 2013 8:33 pm

    Graham picked. Eff.

  198. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 8:33 pm

For the safety of my family and other personal belongings, I am turning off the live feed and internet radio. Will only be following play by play on UH athletics website and this blog…

Wait… 2 defensive stops to start 3rd quarter…. Nice of the defense to stop by for a little while tonight as they pass though Halawa, Aiea, and Pearl Ridge

  199. NorthShoreFan October 26, 2013 8:34 pm

Tuliau had to tell the refs play clock expired…this game is weird

  200. Babo October 26, 2013 8:34 pm

HA HA HA! Interception on his first play. LOL

  201. NorthShoreFan October 26, 2013 8:36 pm

Wide awake nightmare….two teams trade yards between the 40’s for the rest of the game….

  202. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 8:37 pm

Box score says Gant through the interception???

Can someone confirm wtf happend? Thx

  203. Babo October 26, 2013 8:38 pm

This game is like watching paint dry..

  204. NorthShoreFan October 26, 2013 8:38 pm

Chow did say he was an accurate passer, just got to pass it to the right receivers….

  205. NorthShoreFan October 26, 2013 8:39 pm

    Graham did

  206. kiipua October 26, 2013 8:39 pm

Elliot (CSU) picked Graham on Graham’s 1st play from scrimmage.

  207. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 8:40 pm

    OT update: Fresno 35-28

Fresno scored on opening OT drive, SDSU has their chance now…

  208. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 8:41 pm

Thanks, even UH’s website can’t get things right. How soon til Spring camp starts?

  209. NorthShoreFan October 26, 2013 8:42 pm

Now the score board is making too much noise?..penalty on the score board?!@#@!??…lol…this game is weird

  210. NorthShoreFan October 26, 2013 8:43 pm

Getting ready for Warrior Basketball already…

  211. Babo October 26, 2013 8:44 pm

You know, I think Hawaii is close to being good. They just need better coaching…. I mean Chow still has a job? Like my dad said, “You can dress up a turd, but in the end, it is still a turd…” LOL

  212. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 8:44 pm

The worst undefeated team in College Football….. STAYS undefeated as SDSU fails to score on their OT drive….

    Fresno wins 35-28.

  213. NorthShoreFan October 26, 2013 8:45 pm

explanation…noise from scoreboard was getting into the Colorado coaches headsets….weird!..Country Roads…take me home!!!

  214. kiipua October 26, 2013 8:45 pm

Now 7 min spread in TOP starting the 4th (UH 19m, CSU 26m). Warriors still within range but …

  215. NorthShoreFan October 26, 2013 8:45 pm

Fresno got the Gaji this year!

  216. Jack Flash October 26, 2013 8:45 pm

    I’m not fricken leaving.

  217. Babo October 26, 2013 8:45 pm

    Yea, Fresno is WAY overrated!

  218. mo808 October 26, 2013 8:47 pm

That song Take me home” was my que… 🙂

  219. kiipua October 26, 2013 8:48 pm

WTG! Big rip on bubble/swing to Harding.

  220. kiipua October 26, 2013 8:48 pm

    PI! Alright.

  221. NorthShoreFan October 26, 2013 8:51 pm

    TG out…SS back in?!??@#!??

  222. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 8:52 pm

212… UH BB is going to be very exciting this year. Team is loaded with athletes and nobody on mainland giving respect. Media is way overrating the value of losing loss the 3 seniors, who all underperformed and all happened to be the slowest players on the team.

Btw… Media picked UH 6th in Big West, which is shows they don’t pay too much attention. The preseason media prediction is laughable when you look at who got 1st place votes…

Looking at UH’s schedule, there’s an outside chance UH goes undefeated at the SSC this year. The schedule is soft other than the Diamondhead Classic, which is a softer than last years field.

    — getting back to football… This will be the ultimate kick in the nuts if nobody scores and the game fails to hit 55 points after 52 in first half.

  223. kiipua October 26, 2013 8:53 pm

Yeah, Graham threw short on (presumed) fade. Chow barks at Graham.

  224. NorthShoreFan October 26, 2013 8:54 pm

    12:19 to go..fans leaving already?

  225. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 8:55 pm

Dang it… I lost with the hook with Fresno… Won by 7 but line was 7.5. Damn you oddsmakers!

  226. NorthShoreFan October 26, 2013 8:57 pm

#224…yup. looks like up tempo and look forward to watching the guards. only concern is lacking a big in the middle. Got to have one of them step up.

looks like my wide awake nightmare is coming true…yards between the 40’s for the rest of the game!

  227. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 26, 2013 9:01 pm

So anybody eat some really tasty pie lately?

Thanksgiving is coming up and I do enjoy pumpkin.

  228. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 9:02 pm

UH defense now has 9 tackles for loss… So weird when you think about it…. You’d never think a porous defense could generate so many negative plays.

Currently, 9 of 68 plays have been negative for CSU. That’s actually a really good number. That means there is talent to make plays. Obviously the team isn’t there yet as a whole.

  229. NorthShoreFan October 26, 2013 9:02 pm

Veneri comments SS is in tune with his receivers…just like 1420 AM…keeps fading in and out….must be the country air..too thick for radio waves

  230. NorthShoreFan October 26, 2013 9:04 pm

UH ranks #8 in Tackle for Loss … Nationally!…weird!

Dang hungry fo Punkin Pie now…

  231. NorthShoreFan October 26, 2013 9:05 pm

TD?!??@!?…TD?…radio is fading in and out

  232. NorthShoreFan October 26, 2013 9:06 pm

    TD!…Cheeeeeho!

  233. kiipua October 26, 2013 9:06 pm

2 consec PIs + Schroeder keeper = Warriors still breathing. Barely. 2 score spread.

  234. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 26, 2013 9:06 pm

    NSF,

Congrats on all the happens going on with da kine u know!

  235. 808 warrior October 26, 2013 9:10 pm

  237. Inyoface October 26, 2013 9:12 pm

    OMG. Gant.

  240. 808 warrior October 26, 2013 9:15 pm

No time management by the coaching staff

  241. kiipua October 26, 2013 9:17 pm

    Onside? Nah.

  242. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 9:17 pm

Would have liked the TD but the FG gets UH within one score.

Hawaii still has all 3 timeouts, so ok to kickoff and play defense, which is pitching a 2nd half shutout.

  243. kiipua October 26, 2013 9:17 pm

    FUMBLE

  244. NorthShoreFan October 26, 2013 9:18 pm

    Lets go D!…fumble/take away!

  245. kiipua October 26, 2013 9:18 pm

    Down by contact (elbow).

  246. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 9:18 pm

    Good job on kickoff coverage….

  247. NorthShoreFan October 26, 2013 9:19 pm

    15 yarder!…dang it!

  248. kiipua October 26, 2013 9:19 pm

    Auwe. Facemask.

  249. 808 warrior October 26, 2013 9:20 pm

    false start!

  250. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 9:20 pm

Oh no…. What a time for a face mask penalty (again). At least it was on 1st down

  251. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 9:21 pm

We have a chance…. CSU is trying to choke this one!!

  252. Wes'side Warrior October 26, 2013 9:22 pm

    Squeeze, baby!!! Squeeze!

  253. NorthShoreFan October 26, 2013 9:23 pm

    CSU…229 yds rushing…UH 33 yds?

  254. WarriorNY October 26, 2013 9:24 pm

Sean Schroeder reminds me of Eli Manning…

    He can be mediocre/average for 3 Q’s… Then when 4Q hits, something turns on… It’s crazy…

  255. NorthShoreFan October 26, 2013 9:24 pm

    no time outs left…

  256. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 9:25 pm

At least Chow manages the timeouts as well as you could. Here we go! Last chance Warriors!

  257. NorthShoreFan October 26, 2013 9:26 pm

    Lets go!…Get it done!!!!

  258. kiipua October 26, 2013 9:26 pm

1:35 w/no timeout. Do we believe in miracles? No. But a little luck …

  259. kiipua October 26, 2013 9:27 pm

… and a lot of Gant (maybe)

  260. kiipua October 26, 2013 9:29 pm

    Last down …

  261. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 9:30 pm

Is it too much to ask for the OLine to protect vs a 3 man rush?

  262. kiipua October 26, 2013 9:31 pm

23 secs. And Schroeder completely ignores safety blitz. Loses helmet. Must sit out 1 play.

  263. kiipua October 26, 2013 9:32 pm

    Now, really really last play.

  264. Wes'side Warrior October 26, 2013 9:32 pm

    Dang it!

  265. kiipua October 26, 2013 9:33 pm

So, grounding but 1 more play w/0:00 on clock? Only in Hawaii.

  266. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 9:35 pm

Really? ITS A THREE MAN RUSH!!!!! F-ING BLOCK SOMEBODY!!!!!!!

  267. kiipua October 26, 2013 9:35 pm

NOT grounding. UH has 7 secs

  268. kev-1 October 26, 2013 9:37 pm

I haven’t been this disgusted with a UH football team in a long time. But what frustrates me even more is that everyone will hail the comeback and the what if. The offense is just bad. Big plays are overshadowed by horrible mental mistakes, miscues, turnovers, and inconsistency. The defense has gotten worse by the game. It is very hard to be positive anymore. Hard being a UH football fan.

  269. kiipua October 26, 2013 9:37 pm

Some homecoming. Wahine & Warriors lose on same night :(((

  270. NorthShoreFan October 26, 2013 9:39 pm

How many games come down to the last hurrah this year? Warriors got to start maintaining some consistency through out the game.
Anyhoo, heal up, rest up. Take it out on Utah State!

  271. PolyMom October 26, 2013 9:40 pm

Warrior NY I was thinking the same thing about SS.

All these games are soooo close. It’s a psycholigal problem now. We need a Sports Psychologist ASAP. They need to get their mental game together.

  272. NorthShoreFan October 26, 2013 9:45 pm

FUHA…blocking has been the problem all year long. Run block, pass pro has been terribly inconsistent. Starting to really appreciate SS efforts each game.

  273. 808 warrior October 26, 2013 9:48 pm

It was nice to see Noga on the sideline. All game he was encouraging the team to play on. This team needs a leader to inspire them to perform better.

  274. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 9:53 pm

Chow has tried just about every feasible OL combination but nobody is getting it done. Run or pass blocking. Now that we’re in the 2nd half of the season, I have seen enough games to firmly say that there isn’t any quality talent on the OL.

Hawaii has a very nice future at RB but they can’t do anything right now as there are no holes to run through. Without quality line play, even the best RBs in the world (A. Peterson, R. Rice, C. Johnson) can’t do much.

The Worst part about it is there really isn’t anything that can be done to fix the OL until next season, when the red shirt players become available and the next recruits come in and get there shot.

  275. Bigislandkurt October 26, 2013 9:54 pm

‘Nuff with these 4th Quarter rallies already. Put a game together please.

    BIK

  276. A-House October 26, 2013 9:56 pm

    Auwe, auwe:

I no longer can support Chow or Kaumeyer – their play calling is very difficult to digest.

UH first 7 plays – 4 were up the middle for 3 yards; then, came the 2-3 yard pass to the TE over the middle – 4 or 5 plays net of 4 yards – what is Chow thinking????

what was a tough defense to run against in now so loose and the passing yardage continues to grow with each game – why are UH players so gullible on the fake hand off to the RB that ENTIRE defense goes with the RB leaving the QB, who has the ball, wide open to pass or run for many positive yardage – finally, in the 3rd qtr, the LB and DB refuses to bite and nails the QB

it is truly frustrating — there is great expectation that it will be a 0 – 12 this season

Chow and staff has improved in recruiting – great job there, but they will not be around to see the change next year (3rd) or the year after (4th) – big question is will Chow resign or wait to be fired?

I just hope that all the players who have committed to UH this year will sign LOIs in 2/2014 – especially the “local” players

  277. Jonj October 26, 2013 9:56 pm

The problem isnt psychological… If it was the fight wouldn’t be there. The problem is the coaching!! Should have tried graham out to begin the 3rd. Not end the 3rd and begin the 4th especially when u know Schroeder is killer in the 4th. Or running a stupid play action on 3rd n long?!? N then 2 draws in a row?!?! Come on if ur gonna run on the goal line run it straight up the middle no delays or draws or something that’s gonna kill the time. Coaching sucks!! Defense although they didn’t do well in the first half ended amazing!

  278. NorthShoreFan October 26, 2013 9:57 pm

Is it a shortage of talent or not being able to develop them? I hate to think we don’t have linemen who can’t get us 1 yard on third and !.
Anyhoo, snap and clear. Time to get Utah State.

  279. Poly Mom October 26, 2013 9:59 pm

Can ESPN 1420 please get their Internet radio together. Geez! WTH!

  280. Balko October 26, 2013 9:59 pm

No offense, this is not a psychological problem with UH, it is with the opponents: they take their foot off of UH’s throat, play ultra conservative, and let UH back into a game they have no business being in.

Let’s face the fact that these late second half points UH scores are pitty points. The opposing coaches have been nice guys who took their foot off the gas pedal.

UH is not turning any corners under NC, just more of the same inept coaching of fundamentals, and game prep.

  281. NorthShoreFan October 26, 2013 10:00 pm

Even regular radio here fades in a out through out the whole game. Only can assume 1420 is cheap and won’t invest in good equipment.

  282. A-House October 26, 2013 10:01 pm

what are the Wahine VB players thinking about now? first time in the past 20 years that the program has 3 conference losses

will this force Shoji to retire at the end on this season? I don’t see any post-season for the VB team as only the conference champion moves to the next level.

  283. WarriorFan October 26, 2013 10:02 pm

Fans are getting restless. Ben Jay said there’s a 5-year plan. 5 years?! We cannot afford 5 years of this.

Good leaders make tough decisions. Assistant coaches can be great assistant coaches; this does not translate into head coaching material.

Hawaii has gone through this TWICE since coach Jones left.

When will enough be enough? Attendance is dismal, fan base is shrinking, the native are getting restless, but most importantly the KIDS (players) deserve better. Much better.

  284. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 26, 2013 10:03 pm

I have to agree that o-line play was nothing short of atrocious tonight. How was CSU getting penetration rushing 3 linemen towards the end?

    C’mon Man!

  285. Kanole October 26, 2013 10:06 pm

UH will go 0-12 this season. They won’t win any on the road, not San Diego State at home, Army probably not. I’ll still cheer them on.

  286. kifi October 26, 2013 10:07 pm

    What was the score?

  287. kev-1 October 26, 2013 10:10 pm

  288. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 26, 2013 10:13 pm

    #287,

You are definitely not crazy for thinking that. Still hope that we can figure some way to win but I’ll be honest by saying It would not be the shock of the century if we go winless this year.

  289. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 26, 2013 10:13 pm

    Kifi,

    28-35

  290. Poly Mom October 26, 2013 10:14 pm

Baiko I got to disagree with you. We need someone like Dr. Saul Miller to get the boys head back into the game. Are you getting phone calls after the game from a player who feels Luke a loser? I’ve had that call acouple of times this season. The boys are down. But let me say this…they WANT to win!!!!

  291. Babo October 26, 2013 10:15 pm

What 4th quarter rallies? Why od the Warriors play so good in the 4th? Simple!

That is when the other team puts in their 2nd and 3rd ranked players. That is the only reason. If they could play a 1st quarter, then we could see definite improvement. Until then, this team is aweful. Period.

  292. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 10:17 pm

275…SS is way limited, but he’s a super tough kid. He’s taken so much punishment the past two years. I absolutely admire his toughness. I doubt any other D1 QB can take as many hard hits as SS and still be playing.

I would like TG or Woosley to get more reps, but what’s the point? Them running for their lives and getting hammered on every drop back is no way to develop a QB… It’ll destroy confidence….

Of course hindsight is 20/20, but looking back at week 1… Feeding TG to the wolves vs USC’s attacking defense appeared to have set back his development. Then, right as he starts settling down, he gets hurt vs Nevada, sits out over a month and now gets 7 throws cold off the bench with a pick on 1st play…. He might be shot mentally at this point. I hope he fights through it but it’s not looking good.

This should be SS’s offense the rest of the way… That may not be popular with some, but he’s proven to be the best option at this point. He’s earned it the hard way.

Just checked over my picks… 3-2-1
Fresno vs SDSU tied the total
    Fresno (-7.5) LOSS
    Hawaii (+4) LOSS
    Over UH v CSU WIN
    Under BSUv BYU WIN
    Under UNLVvUNR WIN

    Season tally 24-19-1

If anyone was curious, Hawaii is now 4-3 ATS. If you were really (and I mean really) looking for silver linings, UH has been right around Vegas expectations on a week by week basis.

  293. 3-Prong October 26, 2013 10:17 pm

I guess tonight wasn’t the night. hehe. We get em next week!

  294. NorthShoreFan October 26, 2013 10:24 pm

Talk about some one who really sacrifices his body each week…SS. Takes a licking but keeps ticking.
If anyone has a right to be PO’d at the Oline it’s SS. But you know he keeps sending kudos their way. Like tonight on the post game show. He expounded on how hard they play and how proud he is of them. Really wouldn’t mind having him on my team.
Rest up, Heal up, time to butt kick Utah State.

  295. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 10:33 pm

Btw… Congrats to Hauck and the Rebels for beating the Wolfpack, in Reno, and on homecoming week on their 1st sellout in a long time.

He just might save his job as the Rebs are one win away from their 1st bowl game in over a decade. I had them pegged for 4 wins preseason, so nice job beating my meaningless opinion. It’s taken 3 horrible years to do it, but this year UNLV has finally made the step up to a winning team.

Hauck does need to thank UNLV’s horrid financial situation for not having the funds to fire him and pay somebody else the past year.

    — wait, did UH really pitch a shutout the entire 2nd half? They must have taken long way via Kam highway around the island to get to the stadium. I can’t remember UH hold a team scoreless in the 2nd half in a long time. Just another weird stat for this team, along with their high tackles for loss stat.

  296. kev-1 October 26, 2013 10:38 pm

As tough as SS is, he doesn’t win ball games. Proven. He can lead a nice, late, exciting comeback, but does not win. You need consistency to win. He’s not the only one lacking it.

At this point in the season, what is the point with letting a QB who has proven he can’t put together wins have the rest of the season? If Graham is your guy next year, or Woolsey, that is who should take the remainder of snaps. Come on. The team is 0-7. Warm up next years QB at this point.

  297. kifi October 26, 2013 10:44 pm

    Thanks hate me.

  298. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 10:45 pm

286… The attendance issue is bad, but this was inevitable once UH made the PPV deal. The PPV deal is fine when the program is winning or treading water. Once the program drops off (all FB programs are cyclical in nature), attendance drops as expected, but with PPV, people are less inclined to return to stadium when the program eventually turns around.

I’m going to go ahead and say it… UH will never sell out Aloha Stadium again while there is a live tv broadcast available. It took 3 years of Colt Brennan and a perfect regular season on the line to sellout the final 2 home games of Brennan’s amazing UH career. It’s going to take a 6-0 start just to get back to 40k tickets sold (not actual attendance).

  299. Former UH Athlete October 26, 2013 10:49 pm

Forgot to add…. The PPV will hurt attendance the most once UH turns it back around. I predict fans to be very slow to go back to Aloha stadium once they are good again. It’ll take multiple winning years to get the attendance back to a respectable number.

  300. WarriorNY October 26, 2013 10:49 pm

We had a fumble taken back 75 yards for a TD which could be 14 point swing right? We could have scored 7 more points and they would have had seven less (or at least a 10 point swing if we had managed a FG on that drive)…

We had a TD taken away by INT… (again, 14 point swing or at least 10) CSU scored a TD off of the INT in the endzone…

    Missed FG… 3 points…

We are on the wrong side of a ton of these crucial plays… Is that on coaching? I don’t know. These type of things seem to happen to us more than any other team… Why is that???

  301. wingt October 26, 2013 10:51 pm

ESPN 1420 has to do something about the poor quality of the signal in and around Aloha Stadium. Hoe do you get to the name ESPN with such bad reception?

  302. Balko October 26, 2013 10:56 pm

    WarriorNY

Yes, the Turnovers, penalties, mental mistakes, et cetera are a reflection of coaching. Coaches set a tone, create an environment, and establish expectations. Sloppy play reflects sloppy coaching, and lack of attention to detail.

  303. shutb45 October 26, 2013 11:11 pm

Does anyone know the rules about false starts? I thought that a false start would stop the clock and the clock would only start when the ball is snapped.

With over 2 min left in the game CSU had a false start, but the clock continued to run. I know the 10 sec run off rule doesn’t apply since it only takes affect within 1 min left.

I’ll always be there to cheer on the players, but coach Chow REALLY needs to hire an offensive coordinator. Also, get a new defensive coordinator.

  307. ai-eee-soos October 26, 2013 11:29 pm

    # 308 – agree.

OC – he will probably hire one, to begin work as soon as the previous OC’s salary ends.

DC – will be difficult to find one at this salary range (about 200K).

The salary pool for Asst Coaches has to be increased, to be able to attract decent coaches.

We kinda stuck with what we have.

  309. markazulu October 27, 2013 12:30 am

I’ll commend this team for NEVER GIVING UP and making the games interesting in the 4th quarter but the problem is they never show up for a full game the offense & defense will play 3 good quarters then go cold turkey. The most consistent thing all season i would say has been our kick return team besides that 1 play by gant at oregon state. Good job by the defense for holding a shut out in the 2nd half but this is the 3rd or 4th time we had a team run for 200 plus yards on us in a row i believe.

  310. markazulu October 27, 2013 12:33 am

Again Sean Schroder just is a beast he is what a football player should be. Just wish the guy had a more lively arm but he is a gamer cant question his toughness.

Disappointed but glad to see this team again compete to the end. No excuses for this lose though im proud of there efforts but when you go 0-7 obviously means you need to do some sort of adjustment. Our passing games has been much more effective due to quicker releases but there is no running lanes opening up and our pass blocking has been so-so, Our WR are finally going after the ball and have shown the ability to get open the problem this season has been DROPS and MISCOMMUNICATION, Defense has been giving up t

  318. markazulu October 27, 2013 12:59 am

Defense has been giving up to many haymakers imo we’ve been doing good at stopping plays behind the line of scrimmage but have given up i believe 3 consecutive games where someone rushes for 200+ yards and thats way to much we buckled down this game in the 2nd half but again to many errors on our part to overcome and thats been how majority of this season was. I think thats the most frustrating team is i feel like we let games get out of hand and the scores arent a reflection as to how well or how poor we’ve played this season. I’ll keep supporting the bows though and i hope the team doesnt give up

  319. markazulu October 27, 2013 1:01 am

I know chow wants to establish a run game but with this o line i think we need the pass to set up the run. He should use the shovel pass as a way to get the ball into the running backs hand.

  320. Warrior Dave October 27, 2013 1:09 am

Oline play is getting worst. CSU 3 man rush was pressuring and sacking SS in the 4th Q.

Is it correct that Kaumeyer and Demo went at it again?

Also saw one of our players being held back from going into the stands. It went on for a pretty long time. Even the UH coaches had to come over and talk to him. Some kind of commotion with his family members and maybe another group? Was right behind the UH bench towards the end of the game. I don’t want to say his name.

  321. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 27, 2013 1:11 am

    #322,

It was a defensive linemen and it was dramatic.

  322. markazulu October 27, 2013 1:18 am

Its tough to cheer but ill continue to. Chow is a legendary assistant and he probably has forgotten more about football than i’ll ever know but its tough to swallow whats happening to UH football. I get it they want us to be like USC and ohio state but they have to remember that USC and Ohio State was built on TRADITION and we should wanna “be like them” but we need to create our own unique “traditions” taking our names off our uniforms because USC does it is meh. How does the saying go “often imitated never duplicated” we should strive to become a dynasty another household name but I hope Chow and Jay realize UH is not and can never be USC or ohio state but we should take there blue print and make it our own not try to just copy & paste because i personally dont think thats a recipe for success just more heartache.

Sorry about the random rant lol

Just had to get that off my chest while im up

two types of tradition, winning and losing, mediocre has no tradition.

i hate referring back to JJ, but he was the last inkling we had of tradition…a winning tradition. and that’s why maybe 99% of us are upset, because we had a winning tradition, or at least a distinct style and flair and attitude. but within tradition comes an identity…and that we dont have either.

if we are honest, maybe we would say we have a losing tradition with no identity. very very dangerous combination indeed and this is where i agree that perhaps a sports shrink may not be a bad idea.

o-line looked bad, SS above average, d was there for half a game. bad breaks…a made field goal here, grant hangs on to the ball in the end zone there…so so close. a win will come and a new tradition will begin-count on it.

  324. ChowIsPau October 27, 2013 5:46 am

I know I’m seen as a villain in here, but even I did not think we would lose to CSU at the start of the year. This has been a sad time for UH football.

I wish i was wrong about Chow. I wish you all could have thrown it back in my face.

Hopefully we find a way to win one game. 0-12 again is just too haunting.

  329. Buffoman October 27, 2013 6:45 am

watching the game I sometimes got the impression that the o-line did not want to get their jerseys dirty or wrinkled when called upon to run block. I don’t know if it is a lack of techniques, repetition, lack of size and strength or worse, but to not be able to get 3 to 4 (I’m not saying the desired 4 or highly desired more) is mind boggling.

Let’s not juggle the o-line any more.

I also agree with Ferd. Let’s also not do the QB shuffle. If none of the guys are “the one” choose the one with the most of the least and go with that one for the remainder of the year. Tell Tuileta (sp?) the incoming freshman that he will be given the most reps as if these we have are not going to have the “it” quality we’ve been looking for, get on with life and find the one that has it.

Bill Parcels on how to turn a team around

    Rule One: make it clear from day one that you’re in charge.Don’t wait to earn your leadership;
    impose it.
    Rule Two: confrontation is healthy
Rule Three is: set small goals and hit them

When you set small, visible goals, and people achieve them, they start to get it into their heads that they can succeed. They break the habit of losing and begin to get into the habit of winning ’s extremely satisfying to see that kind of shift take place in the way a team thinks about itself.

The only way to change people is to tell them in the clearest possible terms what they’re
doing wrong. And if they don’t want to listen, they don’t belong on the team.

  334. oneseason October 27, 2013 7:25 am

I was fortunate to have a good seat and enjoyed watching the Rainbow Warrior play their hearts out.

While there were a couple of very unfortunate turnovers that put the team pretty deep in the hole, I agree with those that feel the players can compete. I don’t think Coach Chow was given the financial resources upfront to build a complete experienced coaching staff. To me, the examples of poor clock management and other time critical play calling problems are likely related to the lack of an empowered/autonomous OC. Similarly, it seems to me that some of the basic ball handling problems on offense are likely related to the lack of experienced QB & WR coaches. Fixing these deficits won’t make UH into Alabama, but it should be enough to compete in the MWC.

But I am still unable to comprehend why we run up the middle again and again when the gains seem to only be a yard or two. The short and mid range passing seemed to be moving the ball. Throwing away a down or two and ending up 3rd and long seems to put needless pressure on the offense. I don’t have any problem with Coach Chow saying he wants to establish a more balanced passing/running game, but figure out how to win first.

Finally, as was noted, it was very apparent that Colorado State took their foot off the gas for much of the second half. To me, they wanted an assured win and weren’t looking to make a statement. So while the score was close, I think that without the UH mistakes early on, it still would have been a fight to the finish. Which makes fixing the coaching problems all the more critical. And in my opinion, these are the responsibilities of the AD and HC.

  335. welcome808 October 27, 2013 7:41 am

Chow is so arrogant… what does he have to lose by not playing other running backs… hell the running game is nonexistent at this point…. maybe there are other RB that might be able to help with the running game… ridiculous….

  336. Konoman1 October 27, 2013 7:55 am

Agree with you on that one Kev-1. SS can’t take us over the hump. TG should be playing if we actually want to win a game!!!

  339. markazulu October 27, 2013 8:19 am

The defense was hot n cold again but i think did good in the 2nd half.
A LOT of arm tackling happening which resulted in them gaining an extra 5 yards+

  340. Buffoman October 27, 2013 8:19 am

#339 sounds crazy but maybe a blessing or re-blessing couldn’t hurt. He if Tomey could get his guys to walk on hot coals why not?

  341. papajoe2 October 27, 2013 8:22 am

I think St. Juste should be running off tackle or making end runs, NOT straight up the middle. I don’t think he is big enough to take the pounding up the middle. In his highlight film when he first committed to UH, he seamed like a marvelous open filed runner, yet we always seem to run him up the gut. Also, several times on third down, example, a 3rd and seven, pass was only 4 yards right in the middle. Why can’t anybody run for an 8 yard pass especially short and in the middle to get a 1st down. Catch it and its a 1st down. Run after the catch is a bonus. Getting the 1st should be a priority. There were other similar plays with even shorter routes.

They’ve competed and it just upsets me as a fan we are losing winnable games and a lot of the games we have shoot ourselves in the foot so much this season we are ranked i believe 112th in the nation in turnovers.

So I guess the answers to the questions posed at the beginning of this blog post would be . . .

    No and No.

  346. kev-1 October 27, 2013 8:30 am

mark and papajoe . . . correct on St. Juste. The guy has ability. It doesn’t appear that the coaching staff is using him correctly.

  347. kev-1 October 27, 2013 8:32 am

And people, please stop getting hung up on the late comebacks that fall short. That doesn’t show that our team hung in there until the end. It shows that they waited too long to get in the game.

I’ll say this again. No discredit to SS as a tough player. But his stagnant play and misplaced balls are simply overlooked because he will hit wide open receivers every now and then and run a good 2 minute offense.

IMHO, the team plays like SS. Off most of the game, with good MOMENTS. Moments don’t win ball games.

  348. kev-1 October 27, 2013 8:38 am

    Examples:

#1 – On two separate plays that were attempted 3rd down conversions, he tried to hit Harding on a quick slant. Harding dropped both. Harding gets the blame? Not from me. Watch the plays again and you’ll see that the balls were thrown high. Catchable in most situations, but those plays are “turn your head and the ball is there” type plays. The receiver depends on the QB to be accurate in those situations. You want to convert on those type of plays, you need to hit the receiver in the numbers. Yet, SS gets a pass and Harding gets blamed for the drops.

#2 – The deep ball to Gant in the first quarter that he caught. Good play by Gant. He was wide open, had to slow down/stop and wait for the pass. Caught it, but by the time the ball got there, the defender had closed in, not allowing any run after the catch. Had Gant been led by a stronger, deeper thrown ball, that would have been a TD. It was a big play nonetheless, but should have been better. Still, glory goes to SS.

Good morning Tsaiko Nation, was at the USC football game yesterday vs. Utah working for security and one thing for sure regardless of their situation fans, students and alumni they turn out to support their Trojans. Football is BIG time and their tradition is so noted everywhere you go as retired numbers on walls, jerseys being sold with little kids being geared to either go to the school by way of mommy and daddy money or coming to every game and setting their sights to play football through pop warner leagues, expensive football camps or Southern California H.S. football which has over THOUSAND schools to choose from with high academics and strong athletic programs.

I say that to say this with UH it is a SAD moment to see what is going on with this football team and not to compare them with USC but NEVER to see how far down the program has gone with fingers pointing every where at who, what and why for this dismal season.

All I know I have tried to help with finding good young high school talent here in Los Angeles and for all my efforts coming from a GOOD former UH athlete, LWC board member and active recruiting alumnus for upper campus is no return of phone call after leaving detail information on the “holy grail” players via offense or defense as the coaches you have now are either incompetent or what #337 has posted ARROGANT as can be and that attitude being at 0-7 will NEVER get you close to WINNING as you need the skill players which UH once had at one time and the only way that can happen is to show humility and appreciation to those who can help especially your former athletic alumni who has accomplish themselves over the years.

At this point “SINCE I KNOW” as I have been there the attitudes are angry and a lot of frustration from players that will get heated up with verbal and physical assaults only because they are hurting and wanting to win so bad as each week lost after lost with fans booing really is a hurtful feeling to all of them that CARE or you can also have players who have given up on the season mentally which effects their mental preparation and physical play.

All can be done for this season is to keep supporting them and when ever you see ANY of them on or off UH campus reach out to them in a good gesture and offer them a hand shake or a hug as folks they really need POSITIVE inspiration as the possibility of 0-12 will be so devastating as transferring from this situation or academic ineligibility are components that can happen from this disappointing Rainbow Warrior Football Season.

ONE thing for sure I won’t be calling UH coaches no more as the old saying goes “fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me” as I can throw my efforts else where and get appreciated for the expertise I do have in scouting superior athletic talent on ANY level!

Have a GREAT Sunday and lets go bows !

1420 was crystal clear for me last night in the stadium.

Ppj2: agree with your questioning the logic with sending St Juste up the middle. His strength is his vision and acceleration in cutting up field on plays that go wide. 3-5 more yards per rushing play would take a lot of pressure and reduce the number of drive killing 3rd and longs.

    Good Sunday Greetings Folks!

  352. markazulu October 27, 2013 8:50 am

I agree with you Kev-1 on mostly everything you said

I do think though even though Sean Schroder has his on/off moments i think he has moved us more better and it seems like he has played some solid football with some nicely placed deep passes but he also has been bailed out by our receivers on more than a few plays. I like your assessment of this team though because i think you hit the nail right on the head with that statement.

St juste gets a 75 yard return then we fumble the ball and they return it for a TD.

Also 2 yards rushing at halftime while they had 160 yards rushing.

  353. kev-1 October 27, 2013 8:52 am

The TD to Stutzmann was a spot on pass. Credit due.

  354. mo808 October 27, 2013 8:56 am

It was heart wrenching to watch last nights loss. I really feel for the players and the students. The booing last night was something I had not heard from the fans in a long time. I felt people were upset at the coaching, still not a good thing to hear home crowd booing directed at home team. People are frustrated, I understand that. I support the team and hope the fans will continue to come out and cheer for UH. Go Bows!

    ALoha Kakahiaka!

Mahalo to tunalvr and Kauai Community College Culinary Dept for a wonderful gamenight! FFFFF to the max. And yes, I had green hair and yelled at the TV. Just like old times…. with devoted Rainbow Warrior fans of all ages!

  356. markazulu October 27, 2013 8:59 am

Also i appreciate the efforts from ben jay in wanting to build up the program and im glad he is planning but you cant expect fans to be patient when we are winless in football. I’m glad this season we have been more competitive this year and in a weird way this season is easier for me to digest then last years season oddly. I love our players never say die attitude, i love the fact they compete to the end and have shown up in the 4th quarter, I love the fact Chow and Company are RECRUITING like we are a big time program going after any recruit, I love the fact chow opened up the playcalling, I love the fact he put the names on the jersey again. But we are still winless and there is no excuse for that.

  357. LizKauai (mbp) October 27, 2013 9:04 am

PS. I admit booing… when the QB was changed… because I though Schroeder should have been allowed to finish what he started. He was wonderful to watch all night… a leader. Our true starter… who laid it all out all night long and morphed himself into what the team needed as best he could… That kind of heart needs to be believed in and trusted by the powers that be… and not diluted.
God Bless and Heal our Rainbow Warriors!

  358. Candy October 27, 2013 9:05 am

I too was very gratified to see old time Rainbow Warrior Al Noga trying to encourage and inspire the team the whole time during the game with his enthusiasm and never say die attitude. He definitely fit the bill as an honorary captain. Thank you Al for your efforts!!

  359. oneseason October 27, 2013 9:06 am

I didn’t boo, but am 100% sure the booing I heard was not directed at the players. It was due to the offensive play calling just before the end of the first half: 4th down, let critical seconds slip away, finally call a time out, then punt the ball away.
