It’s game day, everyone put on your game faces. Good luck to the Warriors tonight.
    Advertisement warning!!
Anyone needing their car washed tomorrow morning is invited to the Hongwanji Mission School – parking lot. My son’s cub scout pack is doing a car wash from 8:00-12:00 noon. As a bonus, if you ask for me (LK) and mention you’re a Tsai-ko, I’ll print you a personalized WB Tsai-ko badge, as you wait to have your car washed (one per vehicle.)
Lurkers, time to come up with a blog name and participate. Bloggers who haven’t or rarely make Tsai-ko events, this is your chance to become a card carrying member. I look forward to meeting some of you this Sunday.
    WE ARE!!! . . . TSAI-KOS!!!

    Game day. Yeah!

  14. Ronnie September 6, 2008 9:29 am

I’ve decided to cheer for Utah to be the BCS buster. Even though it would give them 2 BCS games to our 1, I still would rather they be in it instead of BYWho, BSU, or the dogs.

  15. wafan September 6, 2008 9:30 am

    LK . . .

How long is the hose? That is the only way I will be able to get my card.

    HA!

  16. curveball September 6, 2008 9:30 am

    LK:
    Where is that located?

  17. brew808 September 6, 2008 9:31 am

wafan, curveball – Did you guys see Ronnie’s suggestion in the old blog regarding ESPN360? Darn – she’s soooooo akamai…..

    Hi brew!

    More like cheap… I mean thrifty 😆

  20. wafan September 6, 2008 9:34 am

    Brew, Ronnie . . .

Yep. Sadly, ESPN360 is not here. So, I have to either buy the games or take my chances with 1420 and hope they do not cut out too badly.

Thank you, though, for the suggestion.

  21. RainboWarrior September 6, 2008 9:35 am

I say it will pretty good game but Hawaii will run away with it.

    Hawaii – 41 Weber State – 14

  22. brew808 September 6, 2008 9:36 am

  23. wafan September 6, 2008 9:38 am

    Hawaiianbod . . .

Have a great time today at the T-Gate! Glad to see you are getting out and participating.

Remember to cheer louder for the rest of us away from the islands.

  24. brew808 September 6, 2008 9:39 am

  26. Jason September 6, 2008 9:47 am

Alright, it’s game day! For whatever reason, it doesn’t feel like it’s football season yet. I guess until you walk into Aloha Stadium, it doesn’t quite hit you. 🙂

eek. Traffic jam. I’m late. Looks like a big funeral in Kalaheo.
ST- hope you can cut the pix down soon. It’s a strain on the mobile memory.

  35. Ronnie September 6, 2008 10:01 am

Yahoo pigskin picks shows Nevada leading Texas Tech 42-10… Only problem is it doesn’t look like the game starts until 6PM…

  36. LizKauai (iPhone) September 6, 2008 10:03 am

of course, remembering to get the game tickets when we got to Hanapepe did not help. Now nomo time to get lilikoi pie at Hamuras. Drat.

  37. curveball September 6, 2008 10:04 am

Ronnie: I guess Oceanic does not get ESPN360……

  38. al September 6, 2008 10:07 am

    lizk……no, get time for hamura’s.

  39. Ronnie September 6, 2008 10:09 am

    curveball – that’s a big bummer!

Has anyone seen the Oceanic stream yet? I know they’ve shown volleyball games. I wonder if they will be able to handle the load when they are the only option to watch our Warriors play football on the internet.

  40. diesel September 6, 2008 10:13 am

    nice shoes.

OSU looks horrible against Penn State.

  41. chawan_cut September 6, 2008 10:21 am

ohio state looked oh so normal today. ohio had em for most of the game until they unfolded in the 4th. usc is gonna have fun in LA next week.
even michigan’s offense isn’t so hot as they win 16-6. they were sweating there at the big house too.
georgia tech beats the ryan-less boston college. go paul johnson!
byu is losing to washington now, 14-7 in the 2nd.
oregon state isn’t doing so well at penn state, losing 14-0.

  42. LizKauai (iPhone) September 6, 2008 10:24 am

    Phew!
    Made it.

  43. Ronnie September 6, 2008 10:25 am

    Yea Liz!!

  44. Garret September 6, 2008 10:31 am

    wafan,

If you haven’t bought the streaming yet for this game, e-mail me at gokamoto at gmail and I can try to help you out. Nobody else has requested my slingbox for the game (I haven’t heard from 22London), so you can watch it on your computer via my DVR.

  45. Garret September 6, 2008 10:32 am

I hope that Letuli gets healthy soon! I feel so badly for players like Blaze and him who cannot show what they can do because of injury!

  46. chawan_cut September 6, 2008 10:34 am

notre dame’s offense looks as good as it did last year…. heh.

  47. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc September 6, 2008 10:37 am

New appeal delays UH field work is the headline in Da Odda pepa’s Hawaii News section.

Lots of interesting stuff happening re Ching?cooke Field to track which will be reported on both by the daily press as well as the bloggers over the next two-three weeks. Meet-ups with UH folks and others are also scheduled as well.

See everyone in a couple of hours – we’re ready to go but have a couple of errands to run.

  48. Garret September 6, 2008 10:39 am

    Ronnie,

If a WAC team is the BCS-buster then UH gets a LOT more money than if a MWC team like Utah does it. Since UH needs the money so badly, I cheer for all WAC teams instead of MWC teams.

  49. Garret September 6, 2008 10:43 am

I posted the article at the end of the other blog, but I thought I should post a few of Cody Nakamura’s comments about UH here.

I really want to beat on them a little bit.

“They’re the same size, the same quickness, the same speed. It’s all mental. If we do the things we’re supposed to like any other game, we should win.”

  50. pocketfullabudz September 6, 2008 10:45 am

penn state looks solid… too bad they have a few bad apples
    osu looks horrible
norte dame is struggling against SDSU… really? SDSU. hah!
its either sooners are overrated at 4 or cincinatti is a pretty solid team.
wake forest is down 7 against ole miss.
    georgia is georgia. 🙂

  51. Jason September 6, 2008 10:56 am

addahknowjoe: I’ll be there eventually. Got some things I need to do first.

  52. Hawaiianbod September 6, 2008 10:58 am

BG – no need. I have a ride.

Wafan – thanks! Hope you get to watch the game.

A-Joe – howzit! Yups, see you latahs. Au’ryte!

    GO WARRIORS!
    GO BEAST!

  53. Committed Road Warrior September 6, 2008 11:02 am

    Game day folks!!!!!

Looks like East Carolina scores first on West Virginia.
Utah State-Oregon game getting ugly for the Ags.
Penn State tacks another TD over the Beavers. Looks to be 35-7 at the half.
    BYU-UDub still tied.

  54. djmitcho September 6, 2008 11:03 am

    Good Morning/Afternoon everyone.

  55. Ronnie September 6, 2008 11:05 am

    Garret,

I hear what you are saying about BCS money, but in order for a WAC team to make it to a BCS game, they will have to beat us. I don’t think that will happen, so until it does (which it won’t), I’ll cheer for WAC OOC games, and for Utah to be the buster.

Of course if we do lose, I would rather it be to BSU and not FSU, because I really don’t like the dogs.

  56. Ronnie September 6, 2008 11:07 am

    Hi djmitcho!

I saw your post on yesterday’s blog. I’ll send you an email as soon as I have the tickets – or at least know when I’m going to get them.

  57. chawan_cut September 6, 2008 11:08 am

notre dame… losing to san diego st 7-0

  58. djmitcho September 6, 2008 11:12 am

    Hey Ronnie,
    Thanks. I’m so excited already.

  59. Thomas Mui September 6, 2008 11:17 am

    CAPITOL-WASSUPDOC:

Lost your message and my address book.

Per your question, he posts on this blog and a few others as well but SteveM doesn’t know who he is = perhaps ST can help you.

  60. FloridaTed September 6, 2008 11:19 am

Lots of big dogs are having problems today.

See you guys tonight, will spend this afternoon taking the wife to the horse races at Tampa Bay downs. She has a weird betting systems, but it seems to work in several dry runs, lol. We’re trying it for real today, plus it’s a beautiful day before Ike shows up. Wish us luck.

Will watch the Warriors at mid-night on ESPN gameplan, GO WARRIORS!!!!

  61. LizKauai (iPhone) September 6, 2008 11:24 am

Made it to HNL. It is very cloudy.
    PBS here we come!

  62. chawan_cut September 6, 2008 11:26 am

    notre dame continues its woes.

  63. chawan_cut September 6, 2008 11:32 am

notre dame gets lucky that san diego is not that good. could’ve run the clock, but no, 3 and out, then blocked punt and then notre dame gets their first td of the season in their FIRST game!

  64. momotaro September 6, 2008 11:39 am

    tom mui:
The bid protest was filed the same day the contract was awarded so the five-day jurisdictional argument is inapplicable.

  65. Frank September 6, 2008 11:46 am

    Hey Ronnie

Hows it going there, excited about the game.Rob just picked up Alan
at the airport, then they are headed to the tailgate…Must be nice! we should have our own tailgate here!!!!!!!!]]GO WARRIORS

  66. Ronnie September 6, 2008 11:52 am

    Hi Frank!

I’m having my traditional (since last year) pregame meal of sushi and champagne. 😀

    How are you doing, Frank?

  67. Frank September 6, 2008 11:53 am

    Ronnie

    Hey there hows everything going?
Rob just picked up Alan at the airport, then they are headed to the tail gate.Must be nice…..we should have our own tail gate here….

  68. Ronnie September 6, 2008 11:55 am

    Frank,

I think it’s so cool that Alan gets to go to the tsaikogate and the game. I remember watching him do pushups at the game I went to last year.

Things are good here. The boys are in school and I’m working a second job to support my football habit. 😉

I think you are right, we are going to have our own tailgates here.

  69. Frank September 6, 2008 12:06 pm

Ronnie: oops sorry double post…doing okay I guess, missing football
tailgating.Have some champagne for me we cant drink here.also some sushi please!!!!!!

  70. Frank September 6, 2008 12:14 pm

Ronnie: Yes it is cool that he can go to the game, he must be glad he is home…so what are we having at our tail gate?GO WARRIORS

  71. jm2375 September 6, 2008 12:23 pm

    Good afternoon guys!

Watched OSU get crushed by PSU. Noticed da OSU QB named Moevao. After a little research, he da kid of Lia Moevao (UHS 77, Pac-Five)!! Another kid with Hawaii ties!

How’s da tsaikogate going? Everybody still upright?

  72. Esme September 6, 2008 12:23 pm

    ‘Ssssssup, everyone! Howdy, ST!

My game face: 👿 Bring it! Wooot!

  73. al September 6, 2008 12:23 pm

hi lizk…..glad you made it. did the lilikoi chiffon pie make it too?

  74. LizKauai (iPhone) September 6, 2008 12:26 pm

hiya from the T-Gate! I am posting pix on my blog.

  75. wafan September 6, 2008 12:29 pm

    UW and BYU. Dislike both.

Looks like it is BYU 29 to 27.

Was it a WAC official? Unsportsman like call on Locker (UW) on “spiking” the ball in the endzone. He did not. Stupid call.

  76. wafan September 6, 2008 12:29 pm

    Oops. 28 to 27.

  77. LizKauai (iPhone) September 6, 2008 12:30 pm

al- sorry. Couldn’t stop. Will bring pie next time.

  78. djmitcho September 6, 2008 12:30 pm

    wafan,
I think it was a bad call by the official.

  79. wafan September 6, 2008 12:34 pm

    dj . . .

I think the UW was wac’d.

  80. wafan September 6, 2008 12:36 pm

So, dj. What are you having at your private T-Gate?

I just finished my lunch of left over steak and potato. Yum.

Are you all set for the Boise game?

  81. djmitcho September 6, 2008 12:36 pm

hmm…first UW on FSN, now WSU. It looks like both Washington teams get to lose on tv today.

  82. djmitcho September 6, 2008 12:39 pm

My t-gate hasn’t started yet. I’m headed to the Swinging Doors to watch the UFC ppv first and as soon as it’s over, the manager is switching the TV to the UH game. I’m not sure what is on the menu yet. It depends on what I feel like eating I guess. Haha Jason Gesser doing color on WSU game.

  83. wafan September 6, 2008 12:39 pm

    dj . . .

    HA!

At least Gesser looks like he has an actual job, though. Watched him last week on FSN-NW.

    He is on now.

  84. el guapo September 6, 2008 12:42 pm

When Locker threw the ball up in the air I knew a flag was coming. I wanted to see the replay to see how high he threw it but they never showed it.

This may have been a bad call but when the game is on the line, don’t give the refs a chance to take it away from you.

  85. djmitcho September 6, 2008 12:42 pm

    wafan,
seems like everyone else is at t-gate. wish we could be there too.

  86. djmitcho September 6, 2008 12:44 pm

    el guapo,
True. You saw the ball come down on one of his teammates as they were celebrating.

  87. djmitcho September 6, 2008 12:45 pm

I’m excited for the Boise game, even though it’s more than a month away.

  88. djmitcho September 6, 2008 12:54 pm

Wow, Cal first play and 80 yd td run.

  89. wafan September 6, 2008 12:55 pm

I agree. But, watching other games they celebrate a lot more than that without any calls.

I still think the Huskies got wac’d.

  90. djmitcho September 6, 2008 12:58 pm

Int on WSU’s 2nd play. It’s gonna be a long day for the cougars.

  91. wafan September 6, 2008 12:59 pm

Looks like the Cougs are Couging it early this game.

I guess, they do not want to wait for the rush at the end.

    Dang. Another TD by Cal.

  92. djmitcho September 6, 2008 12:59 pm

Cal has run 3 plays on offense and they have scored 2 touchdowns.
    Cal 14 WSU 0 13:22 left in the 1st Q

  93. al September 6, 2008 1:00 pm

    off to the tailgater……
    go warriors!

  94. djmitcho September 6, 2008 1:04 pm

nice tackle for loss by tyson alualu for cal

  95. wafan September 6, 2008 1:06 pm

Sounded like they called him Tyson Alulu.

  96. djmitcho September 6, 2008 1:08 pm

yeah, the play by play guy did and then Gesser corrected him and got a plug in for St. Louis.

  97. wafan September 6, 2008 1:11 pm

    Dang. Another TD.

  98. wafan September 6, 2008 1:13 pm

Cal’s OL #58 looks pretty big.

  99. Thomas Mui September 6, 2008 1:15 pm

MOMOTARO: You may be right – I was going by the bids being open on 8/1 and the objection letter made on 8/13. But I think the rest of the letter is applicable.

  100. Pauoa Boy September 6, 2008 1:20 pm

    Cody “Cry-Baby” Nakamura

I really want to beat on them a little bit.

“They’re the same size, the same quickness, the same speed. It’s all mental. If we do the things we’re supposed to like any other game, we should win.”

LMFAO hahaha, you gotta be frikkin kidding me? Same size, quickness and speed, coach Mcbride needs to make sure this kid never smoke pakalolo or some batu since he’s been on island cause he must be high! Too bad Blaze ain’t playing I would love to see him smash this punk into the turf. Anyway, from Hawaii or not I would nail this kid every chance I got in the game whether he has the ball or not! I like trash talk, puts a target on his back to get pounded by our Warrior D…frikkin idiot!

  101. djmitcho September 6, 2008 1:24 pm

    wafan,
even the espn guys said the flag on UW was stupid. the one thing though, you were able to see how high locker threw the ball in the air on the espn replay. he really chucked it up there.

  102. Esme September 6, 2008 1:24 pm

Hoping everyone has a great time at the T-Gate. Wish I could be there. But today is a workin’ day. Eat up in my place, now! (Oh, like I need to remind you guys of that.) 😆

  103. Pauoa Boy September 6, 2008 1:31 pm

If I offend anyone about something I said on here, my apologies…but if you don’t like it don’t read it and ignore as it may not pertain to you anyway…

Also, if you feel that sensitive and want to ack stupid and send me a frikkin dumb@ss email, you have been SMU’d from contacting me and I could care less!!!

  104. wafan September 6, 2008 1:35 pm

    dj . . .

Yeah, I have been watching the different ESPN shows. They have all said it was a wac’d call.

The oddest thing I am watching is the ND game. They won! Okay, that is not the oddest part. The crowd is so quiet in the final seconds. Without knowing the score it sure looked and sounded like the Irish lost.

    Good game by the Aztecs!

  105. BowsForever September 6, 2008 1:44 pm

Hey, Texas Tech plays Nevada today. Should be an interesting matchup…wonder how well Kaepernick has progressed as a QB.

  106. djmitcho September 6, 2008 1:48 pm

    wafan,
the cougs have shown some life, but they have already coug’d it imo.
A “blocked” fg returned for a touchdown seals the deal. Hard to call it blocked when the kicker kicked it into his own off. lineman.

  107. djmitcho September 6, 2008 1:50 pm

  109. wafan September 6, 2008 1:56 pm

Punahou getting some good air time up here on a We(s)t side high school sports show.

Looks like their girls VB team did well and the FB team plays Central Kitsap tonight. Too bad Punahou is not playing one of the real powerhouses instead.

  110. Da Punchbowl Kid September 6, 2008 1:58 pm

    Next stop: Tsaiko-Gate!

Kazz, the Tequila Lime wings and ice cold Tecate are comin’ at ya, good buddy!

    GO WARRIORS!!!

    GEEV UM RYAN!!!

  111. el guapo September 6, 2008 2:31 pm

    PIAA-Doris,

if you’re around – do you have stats on how many local HS footballers in the last two years went to D-1 and D-1AA schools to play, whether on scholarship or as walk-ons?

then everyone can do the math regarding Cody Nakamura’s statements.

  112. Garret September 6, 2008 2:34 pm

    Ronnie,

Looks like East Carolina should be the favorite to be the BCS-buster this year. This is what they did in their last 3 games:

Beat Boise State in the Hawaii Bowl
    Beat #17 Virginia Tech
    DOMINATE #8 West Virginia 24-3

Virginia Tech and West Virginia are by far the hardest games on their schedule, so they could go undefeated if they keep this up. And with 2 wins over ranked BCS-conference teams, nobody will complain about their schedule. In fact, unless they lose nobody else, not even Fresno State, BYU, Utah, etc., will have a chance to be the BCS-buster.

  113. Garret September 6, 2008 2:35 pm

Unfortunately, even if UH went undefeated the rest of the way the Warriors could not make the BCS unless East Carolina loses.

  114. Ronnie September 6, 2008 2:42 pm

    Garret,

I just finished watching the ECU game. This may be the only time I agree with Jesse Palmer that they should be top 14.

  115. Hawaiiroller September 6, 2008 3:13 pm

Aloha everyone. Hope you’re all having a great weekend.

GO WARRIORS!!! START THAT WINNING STREAK!!!

  116. BowsForever September 6, 2008 3:24 pm

38-17 or better Warriors! I mean I’ll settle for a win, but what we really need this season is some confidence on offense and this is as good a time as any to start building it. You can do it!

  117. jm2375 September 6, 2008 3:31 pm

Pomai – is it too late to put in my pick?

    35-17 UH

    Thanks.

  118. BowsForever September 6, 2008 3:33 pm

Good for East Carolina. It may or may not be the WAC this year, as long as somebody shows up to the BCS party it really helps all the other so-called “mid-majors” out there.

Wow, SMU’s getting all run-n-shoot on its DI-AA opponent today (30-6). And Miami’s keeping the game very, very close at the half (9-3 Florida).

  119. NYUH September 6, 2008 3:34 pm

LT chokes in the redzone against Kansas. STill 20-0.

  120. Maverick@hawaiisurfnews.com September 6, 2008 4:03 pm

Not a great day for the WAC overall, but that will change by tonight.
    GO WARRIORS.

  121. Hawaiiroller September 6, 2008 4:08 pm

    Pomai…me too.

    UH 42
    WS 14

  122. LizKauai (iPhone) September 6, 2008 4:28 pm

Hiya! Had to take a nap and charge my phone. More pix on my blog.

  123. Wena September 6, 2008 4:35 pm

ok, got my family here at the stadium. We’re waiting outside in the parking lot. ST went in, and saw Kakaula outside in the parking lot eating. Going to go in soon.

  124. Wena September 6, 2008 4:36 pm

    Happy Belated Birthday Stretch!

  125. Wena September 6, 2008 4:39 pm

I’m going to take them inside now. It is beginning to rain.

  126. brew808 September 6, 2008 4:41 pm

Hi Wena! – Have a great time at the game with your family! 😀 Go Warriors!!! 😆

  127. Maverick@hawaiisurfnews.com September 6, 2008 4:54 pm

Alrighty then! Let it rain. We want the blessing.

Everyone have a rocking time, be safe, keep it healthy on both sides of the ball, and get a Warriors WIN!

  128. Ronnie September 6, 2008 4:58 pm

Are you ready for some football?!?!?

    Sushi pre-game dinner? check
    Champagne? check
    ESPN360 ready? check

I’m ready for some WARRIOR football!!!!!

  129. LizKauai (iPhone) September 6, 2008 4:59 pm

Wena, are you phone blogging? Cool!
We are getting ready to head up too.

  130. Stephen Tsai September 6, 2008 4:59 pm

    UH has the dumb-statement deadline.
After Wednesday, we’re not allowed to quote players predicting victories or goals. Maybe Weber State needs that rule.

  131. alnbama September 6, 2008 5:00 pm

Hey Liz, Hope you all are having fun at the tail-gate party. I was just wondering if you know a site ( web cast) where i can view the game on. I used to watch them on hawaiianmeltimedia, but they’re not offering it this year. I usually can watch the road games on espn gameplan or gameday, if you have any info, let me know. Go Warriors, Go Inoke

  132. Stephen Tsai September 6, 2008 5:01 pm

The UH spotters already have identified a potential problem. The green numbers are difficult to read from a distance.

  133. LizKauai (iPhone) September 6, 2008 5:02 pm

Ronnie. Rob25 brought her whole family today. Good-looking, tall kids!

  134. brew808 September 6, 2008 5:04 pm

    alnbama
    http://www.oceanic.com/OceanicWebApps/Television/PPV/PPV_UH.html

    September 6, 2008 Weber State $12 😀

  135. Ronnie September 6, 2008 5:05 pm

Hi Liz! That is so cool! I’m glad they get to meet all of their Tsaiko relatives.

ST – what did I miss? Which Weber St guy said what? when?

  136. brew808 September 6, 2008 5:06 pm

    alnbama – Also, Ronnie says it’s on ESPN360 – for free! 😯 😀

  137. Philip Clever September 6, 2008 5:06 pm

1 hour to go and counting… GO WARRIORS!!!!!

  138. Maverick@hawaiisurfnews.com September 6, 2008 5:07 pm

How difficult is it to read colored numbers on a colored jersey before the final print?
Doesn’t someone run across the parking lot, hold up the jersey, and and the printing office says, ” Okie Dokie, I can see the number, let the print roll!”…..

  139. LizKauai (iPhone) September 6, 2008 5:08 pm

alnbama. Not sure of a simulcast. What about listening? Maybe garret them know.

  140. brew808 September 6, 2008 5:09 pm

    alnbamahttp://www.espn1420am.com/?id=66 😆 😯 😀

  141. Maverick September 6, 2008 5:09 pm

Another stupid rule to stifle the press from reporting emotion and fun of College Football

  142. Maverick September 6, 2008 5:10 pm

Watching the Florida/Miami game, Miami’s kicker has made 4 critical takles on the kick off and punt returns. Awesome.

  143. Frank September 6, 2008 5:15 pm

LizKauai: yes they are good looking kids they take after there Dad…hahahahahahaha Rob25!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Enjoy the game……

    Rob25: Hey sweetheart Love Ya.

    GO WARRIORS

  144. brew808 September 6, 2008 5:15 pm

    Wow! Rob25 has a very nice family! Where’s Frank!?!! 😯 😀 😕

  145. brew808 September 6, 2008 5:17 pm

    Oops 😳 – CORRECTION! Rob25 & Frank have a very nice family!!! 😯 😀 🙄

  146. alnbama September 6, 2008 5:18 pm

Thanks Brew, trying to order it now.

  147. alnbama September 6, 2008 5:21 pm

Yeah, don’t have espn 360, sucks big time!

  148. brew808 September 6, 2008 5:23 pm

alnbama – Did you try ESPN360.com? It’ll be free if your ISP provider carries it. It’s an excellent option for “cost-conscious” Tsaikos! 😆 😯 😀

  149. brew808 September 6, 2008 5:25 pm

Hey – where did Ronnie go? Are the boys watching the game w/ mom? 😯 😀 🙄

  150. brew808 September 6, 2008 5:27 pm

Where’s 99? I got a sudden craving for some BBQ and suds, along w/ some football chatter! Are you in K-land? 🙄 😯 😀

  151. Stephen Tsai September 6, 2008 5:29 pm

    Ronnie:
The tight end, from Hawaii, was complaining about not being recruited by UH.
I think he was acting out of emotion, but it’s never good to say anything until after the game.
UH really does have a bulletin board with opponent quotes.

  152. Ronnie September 6, 2008 5:31 pm

    Hi brew!

I’m just flipping channels between other football games.

If Ian gets back in time, He’s going to hook up the laptop to the tv. Otherwise, they’ll just have to watch it with me on the little screen. I have to get them ready for the Fresno St. game!!!

  153. Unkanesson September 6, 2008 5:32 pm

    Howzit Tsaikos!!
Wish I could be there with you at the TGate and the Game!! Sounds like a lot of fun!
LizK, thanks for the pic’s! At least I get an idea what it looks like.
Okay, folks, do your best to get the Warriors the W!
Since I don’t have access to PPV and don’t get 1420AM at home, I’ll be cheering in my car tonight parked along the highway outside Waimea some place where get good reception. I’ll be watching K5 tomorrow morning.
    GO WARRIORS!!

  154. Ronnie September 6, 2008 5:37 pm

Thanks Stephen. I thought it might be him, but I didn’t remember reading about score predictions…

  155. brew808 September 6, 2008 5:43 pm

Hi Ronnie – I thought you had that figured out from last year? Yeah – I know, you’re not a hardware geek… 😯 😀 🙄

Hiya ST! Glad to see you’re checking in on us “misfits”! 😀 😯 😆

  156. hawnstln September 6, 2008 5:45 pm

Did anyone successfully sign in to the PPV yet? I’ve tried four times and can not complete the buy.

  157. brew808 September 6, 2008 5:46 pm

Yeah – Mahalo Liz – Now if your magic iPod could also send pix of fuud, along with smells, tastes, and all the gossip, chatter, laughing, singing and song…. 🙁 😯 🙁

  158. Frank September 6, 2008 5:49 pm

Darn it, game going to start and I have to miss it…..Bummers

    Enjoy the game everyone…Brew808

    ALOHA

  159. Ronnie September 6, 2008 5:50 pm

Brew – I have a new tv since last year. I bought it watch the Sugar Bowl in HD, but then I got to see it live 😀 ❗

Sorry hawnstln, I get to watch it on ESPN 360.

  160. hawnstln September 6, 2008 5:53 pm

Ronnie, you are living la vida loca, or whatever! Now, I can’t even get on the website! me thinks this new service is going to s*ck big time. OK, will keep trying.

  161. Ronnie September 6, 2008 5:53 pm

hawnstln – I see what you mean. I tried to order the game, and get an ‘Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage’ error.

  162. FloridaTed September 6, 2008 5:55 pm

O.K. Gang, everybody ready? Firing up the big screen and Gameplan and I’m primed for a great game from the Warriors. Almost midnight here.

My wife actually made a profit at Tampa Bay Downs with the horses, lol.

Will be lurking during the game. Laterz.

  163. brew808 September 6, 2008 5:56 pm

Yeah… but the connections should be the same Ronnie….

Howzit hawnstln – Sorry, I’m on ESPN GamePlan…. and I’m also watching Stanford@ASU, UT@UTEP, Pitt vs. SFGiants, and “Catch Me If You Can”….. 😀 😯 😆

  164. hawnstln September 6, 2008 6:01 pm

Brew, I may have to go your way. I’m on Cox so no ESPN360. And this PPV did not work when I tried to be first in, then mid-way and now it is just no where. So I may need you guys to update me via comments in the blog.

  165. brew808 September 6, 2008 6:03 pm

hawnstln – Contact Garret! He might be able to help you! 😀 😯 😆

  166. alnbama September 6, 2008 6:05 pm

Know how ya feelin hawnstln, I tried ordering it also, got the same thing. Tried espn360 too, my internet provider does not offer it either, oh well, gonna listen to the game on espn1420

  167. brew808 September 6, 2008 6:05 pm

    hawnstln – Also, try getting the 1420 broadcast at http://www.espn1420am.com/?id=66 😀 😯 😆

Oceanic’s website is up now…hope you’re able to get the game…

  170. oldie (iPhone) September 6, 2008 6:12 pm

Takes forever to do anything on this old phone from the stadium. Need to upgrade to 3G.

    Hawaii 5-0 playing.

  171. Ronnie September 6, 2008 6:15 pm

Hey, guess what… ESPN360 is still showing the game as “upcoming”. And the Oceanic site has crashed… I sure hope the 1420 broadcast doesn’t crash as well.

  172. brew808 September 6, 2008 6:16 pm

    New unis look sharp! 😀

  173. brew808 September 6, 2008 6:17 pm

Whoah – big return to the 44! Special Teams needs to play better! 😯

  174. curveball September 6, 2008 6:19 pm

    Early game jetters

  175. brew808 September 6, 2008 6:20 pm

Big time panic by Weber punter! 😯 Let’s go O! 😀

  176. Dennis Halloran September 6, 2008 6:21 pm

Can’t get thru to Oceanic here on the mainland. Bummer

  177. LizKauai (iPhone) September 6, 2008 6:22 pm

game start. We get the ball on downs on the Wwbee 30!
Inoke great play called back. Exciting!

  178. curveball September 6, 2008 6:23 pm

    Yea

  179. hawnstln September 6, 2008 6:23 pm

Dennis, we need to get Gameplan. this PPV s*cks. You lucky guys, how does the crowd look!! TD Warriors!!!!

  180. alnbama September 6, 2008 6:24 pm

Still trying here in Bama, no oceanic here, Warriors Score, LWJ, WhoooooooHooooooooo

  181. brew808 September 6, 2008 6:24 pm

Inoke dances, makes completion to Salas inside 5, but Inoke was beyond LOS.

Inoke passes to Washington at 4.

LWJ takes pitch to right, and goes untouched into endzone.

UH 7-0 in three plays including the penalty! 😀

  182. LizKauai (iPhone) September 6, 2008 6:25 pm

    7-0 warriors!

  183. brew808 September 6, 2008 6:27 pm

Crowd looks good – but still empty seats. Probably typical local (late arriving) crowd.

Pooch kick to 39 to Weber! Yikes! 😯

  184. curveball September 6, 2008 6:27 pm

Sorry, but I hope this gets really ugly. I want to get the Crown out tonight.

  185. brew808 September 6, 2008 6:33 pm

Sorry, my FFox stalled. Weber looks quick.
1st down on 15 yd run off right tackle
    5 yd up middle,
1st down pass comp, 10 yd quick Left side
Mouton breaks up out-pass down right sideline
    short gain
    1st down pass to TE
    short run
    short pass to right
    (missed a play)
    FG good, 7-3

  186. brew808 September 6, 2008 6:35 pm

Weber kick-off to goal line, Mouton returns on right to 30

  187. brew808 September 6, 2008 6:36 pm

long pass to Washington to Weber 40

  188. MeiLing September 6, 2008 6:39 pm

Taking a break from painting… NAU beat New Mexico Highlands in our home opener 68-10.

  189. Ronnie September 6, 2008 6:39 pm

good news: ESPN360 is now showing the game!!!

bad news: it’s behind the 1420 broadcast.

    I’ll live with that ❗

  190. brew808 September 6, 2008 6:42 pm

short screen to LWJ to left for 8 yds, at Weber 31
pass down left sideline to Salas, inc, and out-of-bounds
Inoke is 3-4 for 70 yds
inc. (drop) by Bain, 5 yds- Is it fumble or inc?
Under Review, can’t hear ref., INC
Kelly to attempt 49 yd FG, wide right
Hey – it was 4th and less than a yard! 🙁

  191. brew808 September 6, 2008 6:43 pm

    and Ronnie…. the $price$ is right! 😆

    Weber starts at their 31

  192. LizKauai (iPhone) September 6, 2008 6:44 pm

some strange stuff and a fg attempt. No good. AS starts on their 31

  193. wafan September 6, 2008 6:45 pm

Gave up on Oceanic. 1420 ok so far.

    Come on Warriors!!!

  194. brew808 September 6, 2008 6:46 pm

Quick slants open, 10 yd compl to left for 1st down.
Run off left for big gain, 8 yds
Completion to right (Cody Nakamura), but illegal formation – A break! 😀

  195. Garret September 6, 2008 6:46 pm

Cody Nakamura catches a pass…illegal formation takes it away!

Weber State able to run quite well right now, quite surprising to me. The pass rush is definitely bothering their passing game though.

  196. brew808 September 6, 2008 6:48 pm

    Lets go D!
Panic, sack by D to 29, 3rd down
Draw to left for 3 yds
Punt to Washington, 25 yd return but block in back #59 (weak call)
    1st down Warriors at 29

  197. wafan September 6, 2008 6:50 pm

    Garret . . .

Just read your post to me from earlier today.

Sorry I did not notice it earlier. Thank you for the offer, though! Maybe for the other WSU or Cincinnati game if they are not on ESPN.

In the meantime — see you next week!

  198. brew808 September 6, 2008 6:50 pm

Hi Garret – only twice. The quick slants have been working for Weber.

  199. Garret September 6, 2008 6:51 pm

23-yard run for Inoke on 3rd down! The OL did NOT give him enough time to find a WR…but he made the play anyway.

  200. Garret September 6, 2008 6:52 pm

    wafan,

    Maybe next time.

  201. Garret September 6, 2008 6:53 pm

    brew808,

Weber State broke a run outside and had 7-8 yard running up the middle, that surprised me.

OL really is NOT doing a great job in pass protection. Inoke scrambled a couple of times but this time the DE got him on the blind side for a sack.

  202. hawnstln September 6, 2008 6:53 pm

you guys with ‘eyes’, does the O-line look as bad as it sounds? Looks like they can not pick up the stunts.

  203. Garret September 6, 2008 6:54 pm

    hawnstln,

OL is struggling. They looked better to me vs. Florida–but maybe that was because expectations are higher vs. Weber State. Still, the pressure from Weber State concerns me…I hope the OL gets it together soon.

  204. brew808 September 6, 2008 6:56 pm

The last sack was a blitz from the OL right side. D-man came free.

  205. Garret September 6, 2008 6:57 pm

I should compliment Weber State for their excellent job rushing the passer. UH even put in a bootleg rollout for Inoke and the DE kept contain. The good thing was that Inoke bounced off the DE and still was able to throw the ball.

  206. brew808 September 6, 2008 6:57 pm

hawnstln – check your email from Garret!

  207. Garret September 6, 2008 6:58 pm

Great rushing D for UH on 1st down. Unfortunately, slant play on 2nd down went for big yardage.

  208. brew808 September 6, 2008 6:59 pm

    Fonoti having a good game.

Again, quick slants are working for Weber! It’s all timing and QB is sharp.

Fumbled snap – Wow, ERob reacted quickly for sack

Nice completion over shoulder on right sideline to UH33- Wow!

  209. brew808 September 6, 2008 7:01 pm

Lots of empty seat in corner of endzone. Play under review, but looked like a completion to me.

  210. Garret September 6, 2008 7:01 pm

Wow, that was a nice throw and catch.

  211. Hawaiiroller September 6, 2008 7:02 pm

Leahey and Yamanoha are way off their game.

  212. Garret September 6, 2008 7:03 pm

I am very, very impressed with Higgins. He is very accurate, good timing, even hit that deep pass. The UH D will get a good test in this game…

  213. brew808 September 6, 2008 7:05 pm

Higgins is sharp – quick slants are right on!
Hey – where was the D on that pass route – completion to 3
run loss for 1, 2nd goal
    Time-out
Hey – this is far to close for comfort! D is getting worked over. Weber looks very quick!

  214. Garret September 6, 2008 7:05 pm

I have no idea how that WR was so wide open on the 2-yard-line. Good thing he fell or that was a TD. Now we need a goal-line stand!

The good thing is that Weber State cannot overpower the UH D, so they can’t just push the ball in. Nice stop on 1st down and now the D has to watch the slants and fades.

  215. Garret September 6, 2008 7:06 pm

    brew808,

If it wasn’t for the bad snap on Weber State’s first punt, Weber State would be in control of the game right now. I’m shocked that their offense is controlling the ball and keeping UH’s offense on the field!

  216. Garret September 6, 2008 7:07 pm

    UH’s offense *off* the field.

  217. Garret September 6, 2008 7:08 pm

Cody Nakamura just made an amazing catch. stopped at the 1.

Great D stopped the RB at the goal line!

  218. curveball September 6, 2008 7:09 pm

    Our secondary looks real confused….

  219. brew808 September 6, 2008 7:09 pm

Big stop by D – Big hit by Satele at goal line. UH player is hurt.

  220. Garret September 6, 2008 7:10 pm

Fale Laeli (#96) looks like he’s in a lot of pain. I hope that he’s not injured seriously!

  221. curveball September 6, 2008 7:12 pm

    YUK

  222. Garret September 6, 2008 7:12 pm

That was a great play call by Weber State…the RB took the option pitch and all of the defenders were blocked.

  223. brew808 September 6, 2008 7:12 pm

Hey – anybody been able to get on to Oceanic feed? 22London said he was connected right before the game started.

    Weber, 3rd and goal
pitch to right, RB goes in untouched! Weber LEADS 10-7 YIKES!!! 😯 😯 😯

  224. exit8 September 6, 2008 7:13 pm

mac’s got da jj sickness, like throw every down. we mo physical, RUN da ball!!!!

  225. Garret September 6, 2008 7:14 pm

Second time the special teams was penalized on a return…

  226. NYUH September 6, 2008 7:14 pm

1420 just crapped out on me. Luckily I have it on GamePlan. WS takes the lead on a pitchout.

  227. brew808 September 6, 2008 7:14 pm

    2nd special teams penalty! Come-on guys! 😯

  228. hawnstln September 6, 2008 7:16 pm

    this is getting ugly.

  229. Garret September 6, 2008 7:16 pm

2 guys holding on to Inoke but he STILL completes the pass. Then a WR got a personal foul penalty after the play!

  230. Garret September 6, 2008 7:17 pm

Inoke had NO time to throw that ball! The OL is having all types of problems!

  231. Garret September 6, 2008 7:18 pm

Looking at the replay, I think that actually should have been a TD for Weber State. Thankfully, a phantom whistle will stop that…but it looks like it is Weber State ball on the 4 yard line!

  232. 22London September 6, 2008 7:19 pm

    brew808,
I got to the website but didn’t follow through with the order since I have access to ESPN360 Europe….I was curious to find out what the experience is like since I’m going to have to rely on Oceanic for the games that are not carried by ESPN360….Based upon the spotty experience, I’m not confident…

  233. Garret September 6, 2008 7:21 pm

That was NOT good sudden-change D by UH…that was an easy TD for Weber State.

If the OL cannot block Weber State, UH is in BIG trouble in this game and in the future. The other QBs wouldn’t help because I think that Inoke is the most mobile of the QBs.

  234. exit8 September 6, 2008 7:21 pm

MAC< RUN DA F IN BALL. UH SUCKING NOW.

  235. WonderfulWeber! September 6, 2008 7:22 pm

  236. curveball September 6, 2008 7:22 pm

  237. FloridaTed September 6, 2008 7:23 pm

WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?

  238. Hawaiiroller September 6, 2008 7:24 pm

We need to sustain this drive.

  239. hawnstln September 6, 2008 7:24 pm

Garret, thanks for the website but I could not find the sign in page. Actually I may not want to see this game … smile. They are being out played and out coached by a 1AA team. We need a spark.

  240. Garret September 6, 2008 7:25 pm

    FloridaTed,

The OL cannot block Weber State right now. The running game actually has been doing well, but UH is NOT using it much.

  241. LizKauai (iPhone) September 6, 2008 7:25 pm

    ayah.
    some wierd stuff going on.
The Beast is in the game.

  242. FloridaTed September 6, 2008 7:26 pm

Ron McBride knows how to coach. Weber State is dangerously fired up now. Where’s the Warrior Pride? Come on boys!!!!

  243. LizKauai (iPhone) September 6, 2008 7:26 pm

    ayah.
    some wierd stuff going on.
The Beast is in the game. the rain is falling.

  244. Garret September 6, 2008 7:27 pm

Another bad, bad play on special teams. JoPierre Davis ran over the punt returner before the ball was even close to him!

  245. Ronnie September 6, 2008 7:27 pm

what is up with the special teams????

  246. Hawaiiroller September 6, 2008 7:27 pm

So much for sustaining a drive.

  247. WonderfulWeber! September 6, 2008 7:30 pm

Ok, last post. Hawaii D is DONE!!!! Too many new people for you all, you will be fine next year!!!

    GO WILDCATS!!!!!

  248. Ronnie September 6, 2008 7:30 pm

Yikes! they got away with the facemask…

At least the crowd is trying to help… they were really loud on the 3rd down and got a false start agains WS

  249. exit8 September 6, 2008 7:31 pm

HAWAII + MAC = EMBARASSING. ESTABLISH THE RUNNING GAME NOW

  250. hawnstln September 6, 2008 7:32 pm

    GOT A BREAK!!!

  251. Garret September 6, 2008 7:32 pm

UH got a break, another bad snap on the punt got UH about 45 yards in field position!

  252. curveball September 6, 2008 7:33 pm

    Great break

  253. Garret September 6, 2008 7:33 pm

Weber State is challenging the play…but I thought it was clear that the punter’s knee was down.

  254. Maverick September 6, 2008 7:34 pm

    Slop Slop Slop.
    Why Why Why ?

  255. jp September 6, 2008 7:37 pm

    Will Graunke save the day?

  256. Ronnie September 6, 2008 7:37 pm

    they’re killin’ me!

That’s ok… we still have time!

  257. hawnstln September 6, 2008 7:37 pm

Sounds like Funaki is running for his life on every passing down. What is going on ?????? Kelly is missing too!

  258. Garret September 6, 2008 7:37 pm

I’ve never seen Dan Kelly miss so badly before. The rain must be a huge factor and the Warriors seem to be deflated.

  259. Ronnie September 6, 2008 7:38 pm

I don’t think the wheels are falling off the bus… I just think we need to make the right adjustments during half-time. And we can’t let them score again!

  260. LizKauai (iPhone) September 6, 2008 7:39 pm

ayah. Even the ice man is off tonight. Biorhythms?
    Hmmm.

  261. Garret September 6, 2008 7:39 pm

    hawnstln,

No matter how bad they are describing it on the radio…watching it is WORSE! Inoke is being forced to scramble before he has a chance to make his *first* read, forget about going through his progressions. Florida did NOT break through the OL like this!

  262. Ronnie September 6, 2008 7:42 pm

Even with a high snap, he got off a 56 yd punt…

    At least they didn’t score!!!

  263. Garret September 6, 2008 7:43 pm

Great job of scrambling by Inoke…Weber State rushed 3 DL and a LB…with 4 guys they put lots of pressure on!

  264. Garret September 6, 2008 7:43 pm

Why aren’t they rushing to snap the ball?

  265. curveball September 6, 2008 7:43 pm

Our O line is not getting it done at all…

  266. Ronnie September 6, 2008 7:43 pm

Pilares gets the first down. He could have had more, but he ran into his own guy…

  267. exit8 September 6, 2008 7:43 pm

I guess hawaii don’t know how to run. First get the QB’s butt under center, then hand off da ball. Running back hit the hole hard, full blast. Mac & Lee need understand BASIC football

  268. Garret September 6, 2008 7:44 pm

Looks like the coaches do NOT want to try to score now…they are running the clock out at the half!

  269. sojuNtaegu September 6, 2008 7:44 pm

Good grief…. What is going on???? COME ON WARRIORS!

  270. curveball September 6, 2008 7:45 pm

He has to scramble every play…

  271. Ronnie September 6, 2008 7:45 pm

So, how much is it the O-line and how much is it coverage of the receivers?

  272. Garret September 6, 2008 7:46 pm

The other thing that bothers me is the kickoff coverage. Weber State had a really good kickoff return of the first kickoff, so UH pooch-kicked the next kickoff. If we are afraid our kick coverage cannot stop Weber State, what does that mean for UH’s kick coverage team?

  273. Garret September 6, 2008 7:49 pm

    Ronnie,

I noted at least 5 plays (since I started counting) where Inoke didn’t even get a chance to look at his first option before he had to scramble. Against Florida, Alexander had enough time to check his 2nd, 3rd, and 4th options…in this game, I don’t think that there has been enough time to check the 2nd option.

The WRs have been open on a number of plays, but the rush is negating UH’s WRs. It looks to me that Weber State is confusing the OL by blitzing, stunting, etc. However, on that last drive, they actually just rushed 4 guys on one play and TWO rushers got through to make Inoke scramble.

  274. curveball September 6, 2008 7:50 pm

    Garret:
    Absolutely right

  275. Garret September 6, 2008 7:51 pm

The good thing is that the UH coaches are excellent at making adjustments. Mack and Cal will have the D stopping the slants and inside runs. The D already stops the power rushes that Weber State tried.

I trust in Ron and the other coaches on offense to make the adjustments. However, Smith/Gerke will need to get the blocking schemes fixed.

The unknown is that McBride is also excellent in making half-time adjustments. The good thing is that they are D-IAA so they have less coaches, which should mean that UH could make more half-time adjustments.

  276. FloridaTed September 6, 2008 7:51 pm

I’ve been watching Funaki very closely, really hoping he would do well, but outside of the first drive, I’m not sure what he’s doing. Sure, it looks like the O-Line isn’t doing well, but damned, they never know where the hell he is. He looks at one receiver and starts running around. He is panicking since the first quarter. Heck, I’m panicking now.

  277. 22London September 6, 2008 7:53 pm

the coaches better read the team the riot act…the team is ridiculously flat…

  278. Garret September 6, 2008 7:54 pm

I believe in the team and believe that the Warriors will pull this game out. I’m glad that Weber State is D-IAA, which should mean that they have less depth and they can be worn down by UH. Hopefully that will mean that their DL will get tired and slow down on their pass rushing. However, if they all train like Ryan maybe they won’t slow down much…

  279. NYUH September 6, 2008 7:55 pm

Man, they had 1:38 and only got off 2 plays. Mac must be screaming in the locker room. Sorry Funaki, you had your chance.

  280. curveball September 6, 2008 7:57 pm

Did they ever practice a 2 minute drill?

  281. exit8 September 6, 2008 7:57 pm

Scary, everybody still thinking pass. Basic football , establish the run and the passing game will be wide open. Maybe to much jj sickness. Hope this thinking won’t cost us the game to a smaller school football team.

  282. Garret September 6, 2008 7:57 pm

    FloridaTed,

I haven’t seen Inoke running much before 1-2 defenders have already broken through the OL. The UH coaches actually seem to have put in some designed roll-outs, so not all of his movement is free-lanced. I blame the OL, not Inoke for this.

Alexander is slow, Brent has a sore arm (and didn’t even get practice reps this week) and Tyler is rusty and out-of-sync. I don’t see that UH has a better option than Inoke for this game…if the OL cannot give the QB time, a pocket-passer like Alexander who has a slow throwing motion is not the best option. Tyler *would* be an option if he had practiced more than a few days since the Fall started.

  283. Garret September 6, 2008 8:01 pm

    exit8,

I *do* agree with you that UH is not running the ball enough! See my comment quite some time ago about that. However, in the previous drive (not the one to end the half), UH ran the ball twice and ended up with 3rd-and-6. So, it isn’t like UH can just run the ball over Weber State…their DL is getting penetration that will stop some running plays. MOST of the running plays have been working well though, and I hope that UH runs more in the 2nd half.

Ron Lee is doing the play calling and I didn’t understand why he went away from the run when it was working so well early. Now that Weber State has the momentum, they were able to stop the run in the last drive UH tried to run the ball in.

  284. curveball September 6, 2008 8:02 pm

We all know the O line is our weakest point…injuries etc… Lets just hope 1/2 time adjustments work…secondary needs to turn their computers on…lets go boys

  285. Garret September 6, 2008 8:03 pm

    exit8,

If I remember that drive correctly LWJ got 5 yards on first down, which was great. On 2nd down, LWJ paused before committing to a hole (he did this last year also) and the D stopped him for a loss. UH was forced to pass on 3rd down, and the rush was even more effective when they knew UH had to pass.

  286. Garret September 6, 2008 8:06 pm

LWJ has 4 rushes for 14 yards (3.5 ypc). None of the other RBs have a carry. This confirms what I thought that UH hadn’t gone to the run much.

Inoke has 7 rushes for 20 yards, which includes the sacks.

  287. curveball September 6, 2008 8:06 pm

    Garret:
Did you coach at sometime in your life??

  288. FloridaTed September 6, 2008 8:06 pm

Funaki knows they’re coming on every play, but he doesn’t use any quick dump-offs. He’s always looking down field first for two seconds, they’re coming, off course and he panicks. He needs to loosen up their D with quick 5-6 yard dump-offs, that’ll slowly back them off. LWJ needs to try his speed and get more to the outside, they’re tough up the middle.

Right now the whole team looks flubber gasted. I’m worried, but still believe. I would let Graunke try in the second half, we need that win at all costs.

It’s like 99, first we got wiped out by USC, then we eeked out the first win and then we started clicking. The similarities are eery.

  289. Ronnie September 6, 2008 8:07 pm

Oh my! Tyler is in the game!

  290. Garret September 6, 2008 8:07 pm

Wow, I guess Tyler WAS an option to put in at QB. I didn’t think they could turn to Alexander or Rausch, but this is Tyler’s chance to seize the job.

  291. sojuNtaegu September 6, 2008 8:07 pm

    Let’s go Graunke!!!!

  292. curveball September 6, 2008 8:08 pm

    Good call

  293. LizKauai (iPhone) September 6, 2008 8:09 pm

Tyler is in. The fans go wild.
Ice man was nailing all his practice field goals at the half.

  294. Ronnie September 6, 2008 8:10 pm

Ok, I have to say this..

Yeah! DA Beast made the stop!

  295. sojuNtaegu September 6, 2008 8:10 pm

    Come on boys! LETS GO!!

  296. hawnstln September 6, 2008 8:10 pm

    Now, this is a drive.

  297. Garret September 6, 2008 8:10 pm

Wow, UH got a break because they would have had to punt if the Weber State guy hadn’t gotten too excited and hit Tyler late.

  298. LizKauai (iPhone) September 6, 2008 8:11 pm

    The Beast gets a tackle.
    Warriors are marching.

  299. jp September 6, 2008 8:11 pm

    Let’s go “big H”

  300. Garret September 6, 2008 8:12 pm

Great pass by Tyler! TD Warriors…now it is a game!

One thing to note is that Tyler had time on every throw so far…great adjustments by Smith and Gerke!

  301. hawnstln September 6, 2008 8:12 pm

Mac’s D will now have to make some plays and get physical.

  302. Ronnie September 6, 2008 8:12 pm

    TD!!!

  303. NYUH September 6, 2008 8:12 pm

    All is forgiven.

  304. jp September 6, 2008 8:13 pm

    See post 255 … 🙂

  305. Garret September 6, 2008 8:13 pm

    curveball,

    I just coached kids–I’m a just a fan and my opinions are just from a fan’s perspective…

  306. curveball September 6, 2008 8:13 pm

WOW Hawaii football is definitely very exciting….

  307. brew808 September 6, 2008 8:13 pm

The run plays helped the OL. Graunke had more time (and is more composed). Positive result!

Let’s see if the rest of the team starts to play like they should!

  308. Garret September 6, 2008 8:15 pm

Good stop on 1st down…watch the slant by Weber State!

  309. NYUH September 6, 2008 8:15 pm

LWJ got hit late out of bounds. Ankle looks sore.

  310. Garret September 6, 2008 8:16 pm

    brew808,

But the runs didn’t help until *after* Weber State gave UH a first down via penalty…hopefully the success will get the offense going. Without the penalty, this would be a different game!

  311. Ronnie September 6, 2008 8:17 pm

I heard on 1420 that Inoke isn’t on the field. They think he may have a concussion… I sure hope not!

  312. curveball September 6, 2008 8:17 pm

    Garret:
    you called it

  313. LizKauai (iPhone) September 6, 2008 8:19 pm

this is turning into a game.
    In Tyler we trust!

  314. Garret September 6, 2008 8:21 pm

    Ronnie,

The TV guys haven’t said anything about Inoke being hurt! Thank you for passing that along…I hope that Inoke and LWJ are okay.

Big possession by UH. The additional rushes and the improved pass blocking should hopefully pay off now.

  315. FloridaTed September 6, 2008 8:21 pm

O.K. that’s more like it. Graunke sees the field, LWJ runs to the outside for 16 y , perfect pass, touch down. I guess Graunke still has plenty of muscle memory. But we looked like that in the first Quarter, now let’s keep it up. Aloha Stadium is re-energized, send the mana.

  316. LizKauai (iPhone) September 6, 2008 8:23 pm

Sheesh. At least the flags are flying our way.

  317. LizKauai (iPhone) September 6, 2008 8:24 pm

    oops. Spoke too soon.

  318. hawnstln September 6, 2008 8:24 pm

Gotta keep mixing up the passes and run. Don’t depend too much on Tyler since he just joined the team. The special teams needs some work.

  319. Garret September 6, 2008 8:24 pm

Great run by Pilares! Great block by Pilares also on the previous play to pick up the blitzing rusher…Pilares may be a lot better blocker than LWJ (at least that was the case last year), so that might make a difference.

  320. Ronnie September 6, 2008 8:25 pm

    The crowd was too loud!!!

  321. Garret September 6, 2008 8:26 pm

WIDE OPEN Medeiros for a huge gain…pass was off and UH will punt.

  322. curveball September 6, 2008 8:26 pm

You don’t think that every team we play knows how to defend our shovel pass..geeezzz

  323. Garret September 6, 2008 8:27 pm

Excellent punt coverage–the returner had nowhere to go.

  324. Ronnie September 6, 2008 8:27 pm

    Let’s go BIG D!

  325. Garret September 6, 2008 8:28 pm

    curveball,

By Pilares got 12 yards on that shovel pass…it worked out nicely.

  326. Ronnie September 6, 2008 8:28 pm

    Go Big D!!!

  327. Garret September 6, 2008 8:29 pm

    WR fell down, Monteilh INT!

  328. Ronnie September 6, 2008 8:29 pm

    INTERCEPTED!!!!

  329. Garret September 6, 2008 8:30 pm

Weber State rushed just the 3 DL, with a LB on a delayed rush…OL gave a LOT of time!

  330. curveball September 6, 2008 8:30 pm

you are right..but it just seems so obvious at time..against Florida way to much

  331. Garret September 6, 2008 8:31 pm

Pilares looks GOOD in this game! He’s being wasted as a backup slot receiver…

  332. Garret September 6, 2008 8:31 pm

TD Pilares! UH has the lead now!

  333. hawnstln September 6, 2008 8:31 pm

    First lead of the year!!!!

  334. hawnstln September 6, 2008 8:32 pm

GToo excited, second lead of the year. All good

  335. 22London September 6, 2008 8:32 pm

anybody lose their ESPN360 feed? or is it just me?

  336. Garret September 6, 2008 8:33 pm

    curveball,

I thought that UH purposely had a conservative game plan to start the Florida game, which meant a ton of shovel passes. Ron Lee specifically said that was their plan, but then as the game went on them they had to throw the ball downfield. I think in this game they haven’t used the shovel passes too much.

  337. Garret September 6, 2008 8:35 pm

Great coverage that time, the D is shutting Weber State down so far this half.

  338. Ronnie September 6, 2008 8:36 pm

22London, all I see on ESPN360 is a black screen.

  339. Garret September 6, 2008 8:36 pm

Good job by Sol to break up the 3rd down pass!

  340. Garret September 6, 2008 8:38 pm

    WRs are still dropping passes…

  341. 22London September 6, 2008 8:39 pm

    ok.thanks Ronnie…same here…I’m switching to Oceanic…

  342. Garret September 6, 2008 8:40 pm

I do NOT think that was a fumble by Tyler–the ball was slipping out of his hand but his arm was going forward!

  343. Garret September 6, 2008 8:44 pm

I’m glad that they finally got that call correct (incomplete pass)…but it took forever!

  344. Garret September 6, 2008 8:45 pm

That ball from Tyler was WAY off, not really catchable…but I’ll take that penalty!

  345. Garret September 6, 2008 8:47 pm

    curveball,

Weber State shut down that shovel pass–Tyler threw it to the DE!

  346. Ronnie September 6, 2008 8:47 pm

Yikes! That shovel/shuffle pass was almost picked off.

  347. Garret September 6, 2008 8:48 pm

That was a great throw by Tyler–he let one rusher run right by him, then he threw the ball right before he was hit. He is on his game now!

  348. hawnstln September 6, 2008 8:48 pm

Tyler is looking DOWN field!! Don’t forget the run guys!

  349. Garret September 6, 2008 8:49 pm

According to the replay, the Weber State guy *did* tip the ball, so there shouldn’t have been a pass interference…UH would have had to punt on 4th-and-10. But I’ll take the ref’s mistake!

  350. Garret September 6, 2008 8:50 pm

UH did their first run in a long time…stopped for a 2-yard loss.

  351. Garret September 6, 2008 8:50 pm

    TD Bain!

  352. Ronnie September 6, 2008 8:52 pm

ARRRGGGG. There goes the trash again!

  353. Garret September 6, 2008 8:53 pm

UH’s first TD: punt snap problem for Weber State

UH’s second TD: roughing the passer penalty prevented a punt

UH’s third TD: INT by Monteilh taken advantage of by the offense, solid drive

UH’s fourth TD: Bad pass interference call prevented a punt. The call on Tyler’s fumble was correctly reversed.

  354. Garret September 6, 2008 8:54 pm

Offsides on the kickoff adds 5 yards to the return.

  355. Garret September 6, 2008 8:54 pm

I think I’m doing too much play-by-play…I’ll stop now!

  356. curveball September 6, 2008 8:55 pm

    WOW

  357. Pauoa Boy September 6, 2008 8:56 pm

Au’ryte, it’s about time, great job Tyler you are definitely redeeming yourself…never doubted your skills and I’m glad you are turning things around! Inoke, it’s not your fault frikkin Oline is having some WTF moments. We really need Pepa back and AhSoon back at G, frikkin Oline getting killed by Weber St. D, what da heo. Gotta give it to Weber St. they are playing a tough game!

  358. Pauoa Boy September 6, 2008 9:00 pm

Glad the half-time adjustments are working, but if we keep doing this come from behind second half stuff it’s going to be a long season… Need to fix a lot of stuff at practice!!!

  359. hawnstln September 6, 2008 9:00 pm

If you can see the game, how does Tyler’s passes look? Crisp? accurate? Why is the Oline doing better?

  360. Pauoa Boy September 6, 2008 9:01 pm

Coach Malloe, WTF is up with special teams…again!?!?!?!

  361. Ronnie September 6, 2008 9:03 pm

    hawnstln,

I think Tyler’s looking good, but there have been a couple of times where there was miscommunication about the routes.

  362. Hawaiiroller September 6, 2008 9:03 pm

Why does it seem the OL is playing better now. Funaki was running for his life on almost every play.

    Glad they’re looking better though.

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  363. Pauoa Boy September 6, 2008 9:04 pm

Dayumit!!! Nice pass Tyler, WR’s got frikkin buttahfingahz! Catch dah frikkin ball!!!

  364. curveball September 6, 2008 9:04 pm

    Pauoa Boy:
If I was not already bald I would be pulling my hair out..special teams aahhh

  365. Pauoa Boy September 6, 2008 9:07 pm

curveball – das why I alreadeh bald from past years special teams and this year moa worse!

Nice try Washington, almost bah, time for score again!

  366. Pauoa Boy September 6, 2008 9:09 pm

C’mon gang, just punch dat frikkah in

  367. alnbama September 6, 2008 9:09 pm

right now, i wish we had Huen or Farmer

  368. Pauoa Boy September 6, 2008 9:12 pm

TOUCHDOWN AGAIN CHEE HUU GRAUNKE!!! Weber St. no ack funny bruddahs and take cheap shot, just take the beatings…mwahaha!!!

  369. curveball September 6, 2008 9:12 pm

Maybe I can grow some hair back now..nice play

  370. Pauoa Boy September 6, 2008 9:13 pm

alnbama – Nah, wish we had Keli’ikipi, Ilaoa, or Mauia den would be garrans TD!

  371. LizKauai (iPhone) September 6, 2008 9:14 pm

running out of battery- large pix.
    In Tyler well, you know
    36-17 UH

  372. alnbama September 6, 2008 9:15 pm

yeah Pauoa, but if you going that route, i wish we had Colt back

  373. Pauoa Boy September 6, 2008 9:18 pm

alnbama – haha, wishful thinking…only if, only if hmmm…what if Davone and Ryan stayed back too, can only imagine

  374. hawnstln September 6, 2008 9:20 pm

special teams s*ck … they catch a punt on the 6 yard line? What is going on. With only audio, it seems to be a stupid play. The only thing he did not do is run backwards!!

  375. Pauoa Boy September 6, 2008 9:22 pm

One thing about the so called new offense is I no see too much running. With a guy like LWJ in the backfield, Pilares, Rego, Libre…run the frikkin ball lil bit moa, wear down the opposing D!

  376. Pauoa Boy September 6, 2008 9:25 pm

hawnstln – I was thinking the same thing, Coach Malloe so far this season I would give an F- for special teams, it’s killing me!

Dayumit, play hard the whole game boys, stop playing stupid!

  377. Pauoa Boy September 6, 2008 9:29 pm

David Veikune is the shiznit! Always playing hard and putting the heat on all game baby!

  378. Pauoa Boy September 6, 2008 9:31 pm

Das how for run Rego, powah dat ball to da 1st down!

  379. Pauoa Boy September 6, 2008 9:33 pm

Au’ryte Rego, show em how buleh…

  380. hawnstln September 6, 2008 9:35 pm

This running at the end of the game, when the other teams KNOWS that we are going to run, and being successful doing it, will help our O-line run block in the future games. As we look forward to OSU, gotta improve our special teams play, catching passes, and eliminate making mistakes (penalties).

this running at the end of the game is a new feeling with Coach Mac

  381. hawnstln September 6, 2008 9:38 pm

did anyone ever get into the PPV?

  382. Esme September 6, 2008 9:39 pm

    WOOOOOOOOOT, GRAUNKE!

    CHEEEEHOOOOOO!

  383. alnbama September 6, 2008 9:40 pm

hawnstln, got into the sign up page, but could’nt get any further then that, don’t look good for future games.

  384. Pauoa Boy September 6, 2008 9:41 pm

Au’ryte I hear the fat lady singing faintly……….

  385. BowsForever September 6, 2008 9:41 pm

Special teams are…not fixed from last year.

Well, nothing that can’t be fixed. We bounced back and got the victory! Six wins away from Hawaii Bowl!

Btw, I guess I didn’t get in an entry to the score contest, but 38-17 wasn’t a bad guess. 🙂

  386. BowsForever September 6, 2008 9:43 pm

    Also, Graunke has risen!

  387. jm2375 September 6, 2008 9:44 pm

    Good job Warriors!!

Did I win the vb tix? hehehe 😀

  388. hawnstln September 6, 2008 9:46 pm

Thanks for all the updates. Audio-only really s**ks. I’ll be in Corvallis next week, and if we play like this, this PAC 10 school will destroy us. They are going to be pissed off after losing their first two games!! Should be a good game.

  389. jp September 6, 2008 9:46 pm

    See post 255. 😉
    Esme and out.

  390. Garret September 6, 2008 9:48 pm

I expect Tyler to start vs. Oregon State. The first half wasn’t Inoke’s fault in my opinion, but Tyler did well and moved the team so he’s the clear choice.

I’ve never seen a football teams where FOUR different QBs were the #1 QB in a 2-week span…if Tyler does well in the upcoming games then the job is his and that position will be settled.

  391. Garret September 6, 2008 9:49 pm

    hawnstln,

The good thing is that Oregon State isn’t really that good right now…but UH needs to fix some things this week in practice. I’ll see you in Corvallis sometime next weekend!

  392. 22London September 6, 2008 9:50 pm

    hawnstln, alnbama

I was able to access the game in the third quarter after ESPN360 went dead…the experience wasn’t good. The stream consistenly froze every 5 – 10 seconds…..

  393. Pauoa Boy September 6, 2008 9:53 pm

Good to get a win, but a lot of work still needing to be done! Special teams WTF? WR’s WTF? OLine so/so but also having WTF moments again! A lot of stuff need to be cleaned up before Oregon State game! Glad Tyler got to shine tonight, did very well for himself…way to make a comeback! He and Inoke need to carry this team throughout the season, sorry Rausch and Alexander but we need the leadership and experience! Hope Coach Mack doesn’t play merry-go-round at QB having Funaki and Graunke as #1 and #2 is good.

Weber St. I gotta give credit though they played tough and Cameron Higgins is a pretty good QB. Glad to see some local boys represent, except Cody “Cry Baby” Nakamura, beat it geek!!!

  394. BowsForever September 6, 2008 9:54 pm

Btw, again, I guess I didn’t get a “contest entry,” but if two people get one score right, what’s the tiebreaker? “Price is Right” without-going-over rules? Just curious.

As long as Graunke can keep his academics together, I think he’s just kicked off yet another QB controversy. I can’t WAIT to see the game when it’s televised tomorrow — also, Kekaula said McMackin gave Graunke a big “Woodstock” hug ’round the beginning of the fourth quarter…wonder if the cameras caught it.

And here I thought Mack was happy when Funaki did his thing against Florida.

  395. hawnstln September 6, 2008 9:54 pm

22london, thanks, they should hire Garret to get their act together.

Garret, we’ll be at the tailgate – lets meet there.

Good night everyone and thanks again.

  396. Garret September 6, 2008 9:56 pm

I do think that one big change was that Pilares did a good job picking up blitzers early in the 2nd half to help the offense get going. Amazing that he hasn’t been practicing at the position!

I think that Weber State’s defenders got a little tired in the 2nd half–it helps that UH’s D was stopping Weber State so the Weber State D was on the field more in the 2nd half.

Take away a couple of bad snaps on punts, 1 bad pass interference on Tyler’s first drive, and a blown interference call by the refs when the Weber State guy tipped the pass, and the game could have been different. But good teams take advantage of breaks and UH did so.

Kudos to Weber State for the great job they did in the game. I was impressed with how they didn’t give up, even when they were down by a lot at the end. They had a great game plan and they executed it well.

Rego *really* impressed me with his running! Earlier he had been inserted in the game on obvious passing downs and I thought his role was primarily as a blocker, but he was a lot better runner than I had realized.

  397. BowsForever September 6, 2008 9:58 pm

…uh oh. Listening to the post-game show on the radio. Now Tyler…don’t get anywhere NEAR talking too much about Inoke. Maybe Inoke isn’t a “progressions” guy like Colt is, but at this rate, don’t even come close to _implying_ anything about his performance. You’ve still got a ways to go in re-earning everyone’s respect.

  398. BowsForever September 6, 2008 10:00 pm

Weber State gave us a hell of a scare. They played a great game. The way they were running slants, it kinda reminded me of Colt. The D was kinda asleep at the wheel sometimes, but the “relentless march down the field” thing made me kinda nostalgic…if not in a good way.

  399. Jaysea September 6, 2008 10:02 pm

    How do YOU spell relief?

    T Y L E R !!!

  400. BowsForever September 6, 2008 10:03 pm

Now now Mack. We weren’t booing the TEAM right before halftime. It was the “we’ll run out the last 1:40” decision-making process. So technically, the booing was on the play-callers.

  401. BowsForever September 6, 2008 10:03 pm

Of course, all is forgiven. 🙂

  402. BowsForever September 6, 2008 10:06 pm

Well, Mack made it official — Tyler’s the guy against Oregon. Rest and recover, Inoke!

  403. Pauoa Boy September 6, 2008 10:08 pm

    Quarterbacks

Listening to Tyler Graunke right now and it seems like he has gotten his head straight. Like the fact he seems to have found that inner fire again and I can hear in his voice that he wants to get back to leading this team like how he was supposed to. I hope he has continued success this season as it seems he will now get his chance to start. Inoke didn’t look as good in this game but that can be attributed to the fact the OLine wasn’t giving him enough time and he was playing with a concussion so he got taken out. Regardless though, they are both starters in my book and I’m glad Coach Mack put Graunke in instead of the JC’s.

  404. Hawaiiroller September 6, 2008 10:09 pm

Press conference available for Oceanic PPV subscribers.

Bain and Grauke being intetviewed right now.

  405. Pauoa Boy September 6, 2008 10:13 pm

Oh yeah Tyler stay humble and no talk smack about Inoke, cause I agree you have a lot of arse kissing to do with your teammates and need to earn back there respect. Plus no get big-headed about this game brah you was playing against D1-AA Weber St. so no need ack funny!

  406. BowsForever September 6, 2008 10:13 pm

With one more year, Inoke will be a Dennis Dixon-type threat. And in fairness, the O-line really didn’t hold up well at all compared to Florida, which was an unpleasant surprise.

Pauoa Boy, was it just me or did it seem Graunke might’ve come a bit close to the line on Inoke’s performance once or twice? I only say this because the line has moved up to Graunke quite a bit having had two bouts of academic issues keeping him off the team.

  407. Hawaiiroller September 6, 2008 10:16 pm

    Offensive numbers look pretty good.

    Graunke 13/20 218 yds 3 TDs
    Funaki 7/14 87 yds

    Total paasing yards 305 yds
    Total russing yards 133 yds

    Total offense 438 yds

Special teams needs a lot of work.
Defense needs to tighten up on the pass.
    Offensive line needs work.

Defensive line looks good from what I seen.

Overall, good effort and nice win. Need to improve a lot by next week.

  408. Pauoa Boy September 6, 2008 10:17 pm

K gang time for lights out…but if can make one special request for anyone willing to help a brotha out!

When the game replay tommorrow, can somebody record the game for me either on VHS or DVD. I will be willing to pay for it, just email me at pauoaboy31 at yahoo dot com. I ordered it through PPV, and was pissed when it didn’t come on cause they f**ked up. But if anyone would be willing, it would be greatly appreciated…Much mahalos in advance!

  409. expat September 6, 2008 10:21 pm

Real glad ESPN had the game on gamecast. In the first few series for Funaki I thought he was going to prove me wrong. I think he just doesn’t see the reads as well as he needs to. He is a great athlete, but as I said after the Florida game what they need is someone who can run the system as opposed to someone who ends up making broken plays work. Pretty amazing what Graunke could do given the limited practice reps the guy has had. You could tell his timing was a bit off on a few passes but he is a gamer for sure.

    Running backs are getting scarce!

  410. Pauoa Boy September 6, 2008 10:21 pm

BowsForever – No doubt bruddah need to watch his mouth and not cross dat line… Could tell he tried to catch himself from saying something really stupid about Funaki. He needs the team right now and need not to make enemies, glad he did well and took care of his academics but he better wise up and no get nawts!

  411. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc September 6, 2008 10:28 pm

    Pauoa Boy:

I can record it for you on DVD and send it to you first thing Monday am. You have my e-mail address so please send me your mailing address.

  412. Pauoa Boy September 6, 2008 10:32 pm

Eventhough Graunke had a good performance, remember we playing D1-AA Weber St. and there defense lost steam in the second half. To me he’s been here 3yrs backing up Colt so he knows what to do and knows the offense well. I’m happy for him though and he and Inoke need to carry this offense!

  413. BowsForever September 6, 2008 10:33 pm

Curran/Kekaula are right on about the time management at the end of the first half, IMHO. I’m sure _someone_ will bring it up and correct it.

  414. Pauoa Boy September 6, 2008 10:33 pm

    Capitol -ist/WassupDoc,

Thanks I will send you email. Appreciate it much!

  415. Mclovin September 6, 2008 10:36 pm

watched the game on oceanic internet stream. At first had problems with purchase online. Problem was that you had to click on and view terms of agreement. you couldn’t just check the box that you accept terms of agreement. you actually had to click on and view the verbage. took me half an hour to figure that out.

Quality/resolution of stream was better than last year’s Hawaiian Tel.

  416. d1島: September 6, 2008 10:36 pm

Email sent to hoku email, thank you…

  419. Wena September 6, 2008 10:53 pm

Well, I was watching the game and I thought it was really good. Even tho we were loosing in the beginning…I just enjoyed watching everything. I had nosebleed seats, but when it rained, I was really appreciative of the nosebleed seats. Had some Tsaikos where we were. It had a lot of excitement around me. And I was really trying to look for #95 on Webers team. Those guys move too fast for me. But from reading the posts before me, I see that the Beast did go in.
I left the game a little more than 5 minutes left in the game because I didn’t want to catch the traffic. While I was walking, all I could hear is the fans cheering so loud! When I looked into the stadium…UH was at 27..taking the lead, but I don’t know the ending score.

  420. LizKauai (iPhone) September 6, 2008 10:59 pm

    Hiya!
    Coffee time for bonzo zzZzz

  421. LK September 6, 2008 11:06 pm

    jp

Good call on Tyler coming in for relief of Inoke. Looked like A-Joe and Stretch had a great time up in the loge seats, I think they cut the opposition coaches a break, the first half because we were so inept, the second because they felt sorry for them.

BowsForever Re: post 400 – We would never boo the players, but the coaches time management reminded me a little of the previous coaching staff at times. They should have called a time out when Weber State didn’t convert on 3rd down and before they punted. That was at 2:20 left in the quarter. They left for halftime with 2 time outs unused. I’m sure the coaches will improve on that as the season progresses.

    Last week, Skin the Gators

    This week, Tame those Wildcats.

    Next week, Eat those Beavers

    WE ARE!!!! . . . TSAI-KOS !!!!

  422. Wena September 6, 2008 11:09 pm

I’m getting sleepy now. I have to go, but before I go, I just want to tell the UH players that I’m proud of them. They played hard. And everytime the announcer said “Brashton Satele”, my daughters would look at eachother and say, “That’s Kacie’s friend.
OK, I know I’m not making sense to the rest of you reading this, but I get like this when I’m sleepy. I just ramble on.
    goodnight.

    Bulla, you gotta be proud!

    I’m proud for you.

    Ho’omaika’i ia ‘oukou a pau e Weber State. Ha’aheo ‘o Hawai’i ia ‘oukou.

    kden, puhi

  425. BowsForever September 6, 2008 11:28 pm

LK – exactly. That’s why I was a little confused/surprised when Mack spoke with Curran/Kekaula after the game with the seeming understanding that the fans were booing the team and not the decisions of the coaching staff.

Maybe we’re spoiled by the JJ run-n-shoot, but if you have decent field position, hey, why not run that 2-minute drill? Unless there’s serious ball security concerns, just burn up those two “free” timeouts to get the chance for 3/7 points.

Anyway, I’m still onboard the Coach Mack train, the necessary adjustments will be made.

    UH 36 – Weber St 17

    Da official winnah:

    36    13    Koauka

  428. Manoa September 7, 2008 12:09 am

Ability to run out the clock depends on what the D is calling. If they are in a nickel or dime, you have a better chance.

Last year, with Pilares doing most of the running, plus a few passes by Colt, we ran 4 minutes off the clock at the end of the game to keep Boise from getting another chance at the ball.

  429. Koauka September 7, 2008 12:11 am

Hey, a win is a win! Mahalo Pomai.

But ST…….I have season Wahine Volleyball Tickets already.

Pomai – could you please pick the #2 winner. Mahalo.

The win is a big thrill for me!

  430. Pomai September 7, 2008 12:13 am

Try wait there is a red challenge flag thrown – so it’s up to the replay booth!!

    Right on Pomai! Enjoy jm2375!

  432. Manoa September 7, 2008 12:17 am

Actually because it was so unique for us– I looked back at the play by play for the Boise game and we ran off 6 minutes 26 seconds to end the game– 12 plays, 6 carries by Pilares, 4 carries by Farmer, and only 2 passes by Colt.

  433. Pomai September 7, 2008 12:18 am

Well the next game up is Oregon at their place:

    UH ?? – Oregon ?? – Pomai

  434. jm2375 September 7, 2008 12:20 am

Thanks Pomai! I finally win sumting!!! 😀

    And she looked maavelous!

  437. Silky Voice of the Gorn September 7, 2008 1:19 am

“No doubt bruddah need to watch his mouth and not cross dat line… ”

Wow. You guys must have kaka stuck in your ears trying to find something that isn’t there because I didn’t hear anything like that.

Graunke isn’t the most eloquent speaker but I think he was trying to PROTECT the other QB’s from blame when he said something to the effect that “he has been here a longer time”. In otherwords, it was more along the line that it takes time to get the feel for the R&S and that the other QB’s should not be blamed. He knows how people were slamming not only him for letting everyone down but also, how some were going off on Alexander and Rausch after the Florida game (and figured it would also happen to Funaki).

People here need to also face the fact that for the R&S to be effective, you have to work within the design of the system. The QB has to be able to make his reads and go through his progressions first. If you scramble out of the pocket too soon, you don’t give your receivers time to run their routes and things also begin to break down upfront because your O-line will have trouble doing their job with the pass protection not knowing where the QB is. I know some people will have a kneejerk reaction and think is a slam on Funaki but it isn’t. He is good at what he does (running and making plays when things break down) but now you know why the coaches mentioned Funaki not having the arm and wanted to reign his scrambling abilities in and to work within the offense a lot more. Once Funaki does that well, his other abilities are going to be a nightmare for opponents. But those who think otherwise that the OL breakdown was not partly due to this are sticking their heads in the sand.

This isn’t to say there weren’t adjustments at half because there were but its a combination of these two things. As Kekaula mentioned, he asked Ron Lee and Rolovich earlier this week if they had added anything into the playbook to take advantage of all the zigs and zags that Funaki is good at it and the obvious answer was no. Coaches can make adjustments but know that they cannot make wide ranging changes and have to stick with their original plans else all the practices done from spring until now are going to be for naught and make matters potentially worse.

Right now, Graunke despite being rusty from a lack of practice made it look a bit more effortless. That comes from actual game time experience operating the R&S and being immersed in it the longest. The adjustments plus his ability to let the offense work as intended are the major factors for why it began clicking in the 3rd quarter. And again, need to stress this is not a slam on Funaki. He brings a different dimension to the offense which will serve the team well when it is needed (and I beleive there will be times when Funaki will be called upon this season to do just that).

But now we know why the coaches graded the QB’s the way they did. The JC guys have the arm but they lack the experience and are still thinking about what to do. Funaki has certain intangibles but not the arm. And I believe the coaches are also still learning (especially Rolo;I mean if you listen to some of his interviews, he often times does not come across with assertive replies) at evaluating the QB’s at this level.

Right now, Graunke is Hawaii’s best shot at repeating a WAC championship and even then, it won’t be easy considering how the middle of the conference has picked it up this season. This is why Coach Mack allowed Tyler to redeem himself because they knew his experience could make a difference down the road in conference play as UH will need two experienced QB’s as the season progresses.

As for the clock management before the end of the half, that blames lies squarely with the coaches (specifically the head coach) because that is one of their responsibilties they need to be on top of especially in the 2 minute area.

Special teams is another area where they need to fix things pronto. Urban Meyer as much as I don’t have any warm fuzzies for him made a very good point prior to the UH game. He said he judges how well coached a team is by their special teams play and I need to agree with him especially watching the Florida and Miami game where the Gators special teams made a huge difference.

Right now, UH’s special teams is horrible (which I thought would see an improvement since JJ didn’t seem to emphasize this area much) and I feel that if they don’t instill discipline, it will cost Hawaii some important games this season. When Washington fielded that punt deep in their own territory, Kekaula said it best that he was “surprised the UH trainers had not rushed out onto the field since someone has a major cramp….. in their brain.”

  438. Committed Road Warrior September 7, 2008 1:36 am

Getting sleepy, but just got finished watching the game here on the mainland through the Hawaii iPTV service. Anyone else on the mainland have this service as well? Saw some of you tried to watch it via Oceanic streaming, ESPN Gameplan and ESPN360.com, and thought I would give some input on the iPTV service.

Unfortunately, as with all UH sporting events on this service, I had to wait for the live feed to end before I could access the game. It also didn’t help that I had to watch half the 1st quarter with the TV on mute because the video and audio were out of sync, which eventually did get corrected and was finally able to listen to Leahey and Yamanoha calling the game.

That said, outside of the first UH scoring drive early, the first half was painful to watch and showed some of the vulnerabilities that Garret and others have referenced upstream. The second half was much better once Graunke came in.

We have a couple days to fix up the issues before we head off to Corvallis. If some or all of these woes resurface against the Beavers, we’ll be in for a long day. Despite the Beavers starting off 0-2, if we don’t bring our game to Corvallis and exploit their young front 7 on defense, we can very much lose this game in blowout fashion…..and that was painful for me to say.

When you say you had to wait until the live feed was over did you mean you had to wait until 4 in the morning or so to watch the game? It came on over here at 12 midnight, the audio was messed up but it was funny to hear Leahey talk smack about Jim Zorn. Did you catch that?

  443. MeiLing September 7, 2008 4:18 am

Aloha Kakahiaka!!! Great outcome last night…good to see that Tyler is not too rusty. Hope Inoke, Fale & whoever else was hurt last night gets better soon.

    Note on Samson.

Miami’s best blocker? Center Samson Satele, Crowder said. Jason Ferguson predicts Satele will be a Pro Bowler ”because you won’t find anyone more athletic playing center.” Satele said Ferguson has taught him more than did ex-Dolphin Keith Traylor, ”who was doing his own thing.”

Silky Voice of the Gorn – take it easy Coach…

Nope I know what I heard and I’m sticking to it. Why would he need to protect Funaki from blame? Funaki would not have been the person to blame if they wouldv’e lost the game. A lot more chit was happening on the team that wouldv’e lost that game. Besides when you say stuff like “I’ve been here a little longer and wouldv’e been able to hit my 3rd and 4th reads, while Funaki would take off instead” Kind of leaves a subliminal message downplaying his teammate saying he can’t make those throws or something. I hate also when people say he doesn’t have the arm…if he didn’t he wouldn’t be playing QB. People said, Colt Brennan didn’t have an arm either? Not that I would compare the two QB’s but again what does throwing the ball downfield 60-70 yards do if you can’t control the ball? With all the screens and shovel-passes and routes we run it’s not like we’re going deep constantly.

Speaking of Alexander and Rausch, they should have not started that Florida game at all! If you watched that game Alexander is to blame for his interceptions (stupid throws) and fumble (holding the ball like a retard) cause it was all on him to make those mistakes costing his team 3 TD’s from his turnovers! Rausch wasn’t in long enough to make something happen but his interception was all on him too (bad pass).

Regardless of what Graunke said, I like the fact that he’s hungry and wants the starting job which he will have his chance at Oregon St. I agree his abilities are better suited for our type of offense and wish him success throughout the year. Either way, our team needs both Funaki and Graunke to carry them this year, the JC’s can wait.

I agree with you on Coach Rolo…but he’s a young coach so I give him benefit of the doubt. Only thing I’m concerned about is this merry-go-round QB situation. After these first two games I think it’s safe to say Funaki and Graunke are our guys to carry us this season!

Lastly, Coach Malloe needs to revamp that frikkin special teams group. Need to get back to fundamentals with the coverage teams cause they are getting ran over and giving up huge plays, which is killing us. When we start getting into the thick of the season and play Boise St., Fresno St., and Nevada, who are known for having very good special teams, we better be ready!

  447. Pauoa Boy September 7, 2008 5:52 am

Eh so I heard, LWJ is injured too…anyone got the scoops on that? Our RB’s are getting slim…good to know though that Rego can pound the ball lil bit and Pilares is back there again to help but somebody mustv’e bachi dem gunfunnit!

  451. d1島: September 7, 2008 7:11 am

    SVOGorn,
Thanks for your very thorough insights.

    PB,
Thanks to you, too. (I think LWJ hurt an ankle.)

It’s clear to see that the season has really started with all the passion shown here.
I just hope that the team can now play with lots of passion as well. That seemed to be one thing that changed at halftime last night.

Gotta give props to Jayson Rego. That bruddah musta worked hard this past summer in the weight room (dude is thick now) and must be taking instructions from Coach Gerke to heart; I’ve mentioned to a few other Tsaikos that I was never impressed with him on the field but he has shown that he’s ready to contribute now. Good for him.

Speaking of LWJ. Man, Kekaula is right, he’s still doing too much “dancin'”

    aloha Tsaikos,

Puhi – mahalo for the kind words. the Eastman hale is basking in the glow of a well fought battle for ‘the beast’. as a true freshman, 18 years 2 months old, he did very well in the trenches and we are so very, very, happy for him. he made some plays, had a lot of playing time….and he was so happy after the game.

good battle, interesting calls, a few missed calls….lots of replays….tick tock tick tock tick tock….you know the song. but a good game overall.

congrats to the Warriors, they did what they were supposed to do, and Weber held their ground and opened a few eyes.

to all the Tsaikos, mahalo for your prayers and support for ‘the beast’, now let’s go Warriors!!!!

  458. wafan September 7, 2008 7:45 am

How are the T-Gater’s this fine morning?

Long range forecast for next Saturday is high clouds, sunny skies, and temps up in the high 70’s to mid 80’s. Of course, with the Coastal Range it could be completely different. Better be prepared if you are headed to Corvallis!

  459. bulla September 7, 2008 7:47 am

happy bday to the bday kids….haha

    d1,

mahalo for the props……ryan was sooooooooooo happy after the game. his smile was ear to ear and then some…….whew, what a rush.

and mahalo for wearing the purple shirt before the game, i know you had to make a superman change to UH colors, but purple is very becoming on you…….color of royalty your highness.

    Bulla . . .

Glad to hear the Beast had a good game. Even happier that there were no serious injuries on either side of the ball.

So, ummmmm, how was it wearing purple at the stadium? Should have been a lot of fun — like anyone is going to argue with you. HA!

howzit and good morning Tsaikos everywhere.

Great fun last nite. Tyler was given his chance and he pulled it off. Same o line. Same players on da odda side. tyler stepped up when it counted.

Inoke is a great team player and a great leader. Sorry to say this, but his fire won’t correct his happy feet. He moves around too much when the pressure comes, and he drifts off the blockers, who don’t have eyes in the back of their heads, so he drifts off to where there is pressure, then he’s got to scramble, and gets put into awkward positions.

Tyler, he is just plain cold in the pocket. stares past da D guyz and can pass good enough. with a little more practice, da bugga is gonna be good fun to watch for da rest of the season.

    Pomai, about da Beavers.

    24-17. 😀

    Coach Mack,

get riddah da mellow demeanor!. you gotta get mean, coach. you guyz waiting till da second half for fire da Warriors up. IMHO you need a little more yellin so da guyz come out rippin from da start. Coach Ron, you gotta start rippin, bradda. I like read da injury reports say: sore ears!!!

    Go Warriors!!!

  483. Jason September 7, 2008 8:39 am

Silky Voice of the Gorn: Ditto. Sorry Pauoa Boy, but I gotta agree with this guy; he’s seen everything I’ve seen. And I want to clarify what I’ve said about Inoke’s lack of arm strength — I’m not talking 60 yard throws, I’m talking 15-yard outs. Even Colt, who didn’t have the strongest arm, had the arm (and the timing) to get that ball out. In the West Coast Offense, maybe Inoke would be okay, but in the R&S, that lack of arm strength starts to become a liability. Sure, we throw a lot of short stuff, but we run a lot of stuff toward the sidelines where you need that extra oomph. He made some good throws at Florida, when the adrenaline was flowing. And he did the same at the beginning of last night’s game. But once Weber State started to slow the game down and take momentum, Inoke looked like he does in practice. And that’s why I’ve always been a little wary of talk that Inoke should be the starter.

But that doesn’t change the fact that Inoke is a great leader on this team, and a guy I really respect. Some of us were talking post-game, and I noted that it would be nice for Inoke to play in an offense like Paul Johnson’s at Georgia Tech or at Navy, cause he does bring some awesome athleticism to the QB position. But someone else made a good point — even if the skills he’s developed aren’t yet conducive to this offense, it’s more important that he’s here on this team for his teammates. He represents the Warriors so well, and he’s such a great person; I know he’s going to do great things in life after football.

  484. Esme September 7, 2008 8:39 am

Howzit Jason – No worries no need apologize my bruddah it’s all good. I know Graunke is better suited for this offense than Funaki is. Either way we need them both this season. Wonder if they will ever have both on the field at the same time on some trick play, if I was the defense I would definitely be confused.
