Friday’s contest

Want a football glove autographed by former UH running back Alex Green?

To enter the drawing, please post: Spring time is football time.

Avis picks a winner tonight.

* * * * *

Among the memorable things about UH’s pro day were the cheers. They came from former UH teammates, some who had not seen each  other in three months, rooting for players to do well in the running, jumping and lifting tests. Even players who completed their eligibility at least more than a year ago — Solomon Elimimian, Adam Leonard, Brashton Satele — encouraged players to get that extra lift. Green Bay Packers GM Ted Thompson marveled at how unique it was for players to root for others at a pro day.

GREAT LAKER VICTORY LAST NIGHT. Center court, 13th row! The action leading up to the ejections was quite festive. Saw a fight in the upper level with a guy wearing a Mav’s shirt dragged out by the “red coats” (Staples Center Security), and another woman tried to run on the court and was “escorted” very quickly out of the arena.

NO VB for us tonight. If someone wants our tickets and can come by and pick them up, please let me know.

Hopefully we’ll be ok for tomorrow’s game. The Screechers and I, Midori & the A-houses, and a couple of others are providing the post-game meal for the team. I’m in charge of drinks (mostly juice).

  67. Garret April 1, 2011 9:12 am

Mitchell Loewen (Baldwin LB) and Hiro Sasaki (Kaiser OL) are apparently going around the country to find a team to walk on to. They actually spent their own money to visit North Texas to see if they would walk on there instead of UH?

Loewen and Sasaki, who is a 6-4, 255-pound offensive line prospect, have come over and gone on a barnstorming tour that has taken them to North Texas, Tulsa, Kansas State, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, and Oklahoma State. The two will return home to Hawaii on Saturday.

  68. gigi-hawaii April 1, 2011 9:14 am

Garret is here! At last, something to read and digest.

  69. homey ℞ April 1, 2011 9:16 am

    From the internet…

Given: Barney is a CUTE PURPLE DINOSAUR

    Prove: Barney is satanic

The Romans had no letter ‘U’, and used ‘V’ instead for

printing, meaning the Roman representation would for

Barney would be: CVTE PVRPLE DINOSAVR

    CVTE PVRPLE DINOSAVR

Extracting the Roman numerals, we have:

    CV V L DI V

    And their decimal equivalents are:

    100 5 5 50 500 1 5

    Adding those numbers produces: 666.

666 is the number of the Beast.

    Proved: BARNEY IS SATAN!

  70. gigi-hawaii April 1, 2011 9:19 am

    April Fools hoax…interesting…

1998: Burger King published a full page advertisement in USA Today announcing the introduction of a new item to their menu: a “Left-Handed Whopper” specially designed for the 32 million left-handed Americans. According to the advertisement, the new whopper included the same ingredients as the original Whopper (lettuce, tomato, hamburger patty, etc.), but all the condiments were rotated 180 degrees for the benefit of their left-handed customers. The following day Burger King issued a follow-up release revealing that although the Left-Handed Whopper was a hoax, thousands of customers had gone into restaurants to request the new sandwich. Simultaneously, according to the press release, “many others requested their own ‘right handed’ version.”

    LOL!

URGING THE NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE TO HOLD A PRESEASON FOOTBALL GAME IN HAWAII

WHEREAS, the State and the National Football League have enjoyed a mutually beneficial relationship for more than thirty years; and

Arghhh… my HP 3500 network color laser printer just broke. Had it many years and it made the room light blink when I turned it on, but it is heaaaavy to move alone…

Some sensor or logic board problem but it was just printing yesterday. Not worth my while for repair, but if anyone wants it for parts or think they can fix it, you are welcome to pick it up. Free. Phone or email me.

  133. al April 1, 2011 12:53 pm

nsf…no names at this point. however, a lot of speculation. i have my opinions but i’ll reserve those for a cattle call if at all. i believe the gibber has or will soon be addressing that to his team. the basketball loi’s can be first accepted beginning april 13th. i would say that it will happen around this time.

the team banquet will be in three weeks.

no doubt, in spite of amis, thompson, and kurtz, next year’s rainbow warriors will be even deeper, faster, and hungrier as the competition for playing time escalates due to the amount of talent that this team will have. we should do well, however, the real payoff year could be in two years.

  134. NorthShoreFan April 1, 2011 1:02 pm

tanx al….Coach Gib has done a great job so far and he is the mix master on this team. Newbies will push for pt and there should be no “starting” line up. Each year the components need to be realigned to get the best line up. Will be awaiting the announcement….

Loewen is an invited UH walk on? Not much is being said about him on this board or media releases on walk ons.

Loewen’s name came up earlier because a Maui fan wanted to know why he wasn’t being recruited or why UH seem to neglect the outer islands for fb players.

Coolen tweets that at 4 p.m. UH has mandatory WAC conference bat testing. I know at every game the umpires check the bats from both teams, but bat testing is a little more involved in that each bat compression is tested.

Springtime is indeed football time and I would like to remind everyone that that there is some high quality football being played at Pearl City High School this weekend. Games are Friday and Saturday at 7pm. If you love football you’ll love these games. I know this is the Warrior Beat blog and caters mostly to UH fans but I just want to remind everyone that in addition to the plethora of talented local players who have either exhausted their NCAA eligibility or for whatever reason were unable to accept scholarships to play college football, there are also a lot of ex UH players who deserve your support. For more info go to hawaiiprofootball dot com They even have a live web stream of the games now for those not adventurous enough to hele up to Pearl City.

  155. chawan_cut April 1, 2011 2:17 pm

Great to hear that the guys had a cheering section at Pro Day and the scouts got to see what kind of character UH Warriors have…unlike some pro football players in the league today.

“Herrick and Estrada, who was sidelined during the drills with a hamstring pull, will both compete at the University of Hawaii pro day scheduled for March 31 at the Home Depot Center in California.” (from NAU’s website) Mike Herrick is the NAU QB who was going to be throwing to our receivers.

ESPNU showed the bat compression device used to check out the bats. Simple looking device, measures the stiffness of the bat surface, a soft surface supposedly will trampoline the ball off the bat giving it a greater exit speed.

  184. Kazz April 1, 2011 3:31 pm

Pitcher’s dual tonight and all weekend.

Batting average for FSU is lower than our’s but FSU played a HEAVY schedule against good teams with solid pitchers.

Should be Oakes vs Ricketts tonight.

  185. Kazz April 1, 2011 3:37 pm

For me, I want to see how arrogant Fresno State will be. I want to see if Oakes or Moses will play to the TV audience tonight to show the nation they can pitch to us and come after us instead of the outside pitches we’ve been overloaded with all season long.

Give us a few inside stuff and if they’re really DUMB, give us some straight stuff over the plate and Jessica Mendoza will be scrambling to talk about the bats again.

  186. koakane April 1, 2011 3:39 pm

    Ralph,

YES! It’s SEC softball and the nation would rather see that because it’s the SEC with all their GREAT TALENT and players and coaches that go BEYOND reproach.

But yes, our game will have to wait…

  200. homey ℞ April 1, 2011 4:04 pm

Kazz – That’s what pitching is all about. Pitchers hit their spots. They throw strikes over the plate when they need to. All depends on the count, who’s batting, who’s on base, what base(s) are the runner(s) on, number of outs, score… An effective pitcher will paint the corners all day and bring the high cheese when needed.

  201. Kazz April 1, 2011 4:07 pm

    Homey,

    What is hitting about then?

    Oh! Level swinging yeah? 😎

    whoa wow.

  212. haka April 1, 2011 4:21 pm

Swinging level depends on whether you are playing on a level playing field and the level of the competition, which, in turn, can be offset if your are playing at sea level and if the umpire is at eye level with the pitches, which, if he isn’t, can cause one to not be level headed, which can cause the level of one’s ability to be below the level needed to contact the ball.

Kealoha Pilares is a freak, he’s a perfect example of a guy who has put in work getting to where he is at now. Remember when he played for Damien and then when he first signed on at UH he was pretty skinny manini. Now he has bulked up, gained, strength, speed, quickness, and some ridiculous hops. I hope he gets a chance at the next level.

Pepa’s reps on the bench not counting is BS… Everytime I see somebody do the lifts at the combine, pro-day, etc… nobody ever does a full lockout with their arms, plus they bouncing the weight off their chest anyway. Shute as long as they can push weight that many times, who cares…

    lil birdie news flash

rainbow warriors get a verbal commitment from 7’3″ ramar alcindor of manhattan, new york. he will be a freshman in the fall. two time all city center.

if the name sounds familiar, his uncle is also known as kareem abdul-jabbar formerly known as ferdinand lewis alcindor, jr.

  268. BleedGreen808 April 1, 2011 11:19 pm

One of the many reasons why LOCALS should play for the home team. Truly inspiring for former teammates to root for one another.

  269. BleedGreen808 April 1, 2011 11:21 pm

WOW 7’3″. Good work by the BB staff to recruit as far away from the east coast.

  270. NorthShoreFan April 1, 2011 11:22 pm

al….give dat birdie a special treat! Great news..waiting for some point and mobile bigs to join the ohana.

  271. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc April 1, 2011 11:27 pm

    Spring time is football time.

Great volleyball match tonight – smaller than usual crowd but perhaps they were over at The Les. I wish I could see tomorrow’s baseball game, but work comes first.

Saw a bunch of Tsai-kos sitting directly across from us and Stephen alongside the court sitting next to Scott Robb.

I love Alan Hackbarth -wonder what he’ll look and how flexible he’ll be 30 years from now.

BTW – I think it was d1shima who seems to think that the Legislature doesn’t understand what’s happening in the real world of NFL football. Sure they do, but they also expect that any NFL pre-season game played here won’t happen until 2012 because of the need to enter into negotiations and discussions that will take much, much longer than four or five months.

Although the Hawai`i Tourism Authority does have someone on staff who markets Hawai`i’s major sporting events such as the Sony Open and the Ironman Triathlon, I doubt that he has the appropriate skills & experience to negotiate with Da Big NFL Cheeses.

    Orf to beddybye.

  272. NorthShoreFan April 1, 2011 11:33 pm

Wdoc, one person on staff negotiated to keep the Pro Bowl here.

This makes me wonder why we are even here. Don’t most people have jobs that they need to be attending to? How can you spend all day on the internet, responding to Blogs? I know that there are now literally millions of people making money online but you have to wonder how they do that exactly. A lot of people supposedly make money by selling stuff on eBay, posting ads on search engines, auctioning off their stuff or even trading stocks. What I am looking for is something that could become a real business that I can use in order to create enough income to quit my main job. So far, the most promising program that I have found is called Profit Monarch. I like it because it is very cheap to get started with and that it comes with easy to use software. Using the software is as easy as opening up your inbox and writing an email. There is nothing complicated about it and it comes with a complete set of video instructions. You can use the “step-by-step” training videos and instructions to easily setup and profit from the software fast! Then you can get paid ‘month after month’ WITHOUT a product, website or blog! I think that if I can do this, anyone could do this. Just check out the presentation page: http://cash411.info/go/202

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

  334. Christian Louboutin April 13, 2011 3:47 pm

Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to your Touch, but just after seeing how slim and surpr isingly small and mild it is, I think about it to become a fairly exclusive hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch as well as Nano. It will be extremely colorful and lovely OLED display is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels really a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as significantly, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, whilst getting just a hair thicker.

One thing that this blog seems to be missing is a members section. It’s actually pretty easy to set up a membership section on your blog, especially if you have the right tool. WishList Member is a powerful, yet easy to use membership solution that can turn any WordPress blog into a full-blown membership site. Just unzip and upload the plugin, and within minutes you’ll have your own membership site up and running… with a tool that allows you to have members only content. It has an integrated payment solution for prospective members and a great member management tool. Create “Silver”, “Gold”, “Platinum”, or any other “levels” you want! Charge more for higher levels of access – all within the same blog. The member management console allows you to delete users, upgrade users, etc. Just click the “Hide” button to protect exclusive content for members of a particular level. Create “modular” memberships and hide content from other levels. Seamlessly integrates with the most popular shopping cart systems, including PayPal, ClickBank, and many more. WishList Member is the best membership management system available. Check it Out -> http://cash411.info/go/224/

You can change your diet in conjunction with using the creams that you’ve been using and that will speed up the recovery significantly. But what I would also recommend is to use a homeopathic solution instead. I always feel if there’s a natural way to do something, then it’s best to avoid the chemicals. I would look for an natural product, that can be taken orally to promote re-growth of the good bacteria in your body.

You need some automation here. You might want to try the Xtreme Profit Robot. Who knows how much this software is actually worth but I can tell you that when it first came out, they were selling it for more than $2,000 at secret Internet marketing seminars. Since it has now gone mainstream, you can get in for just $49 and start drawing massive amount of traffic to your website. The software sucks in real visitors to your site from 54 different traffic sources, all on autopilot. Just a few clicks and then it will earn money 24/7. You can wake up in the morning and check your accounts to see how much money you made while you were sleeping. Take a look at the video presentation and get ready to be shocked. -> http://cash411.info/go/228

One of my friends came up to me and told me that she had candida, and explained how it was messing her up and that the doctors she’d seen hadn’t really done s**t (or perscribed anything that work). I asked her if she’d tried fixing her diet and not eating sugar. She said she had somewhat, and it helped a little, but it didn’t really make a difference. She also had eaten probiotics, which helped a bit.

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

People like having a definitive answer. They like being able to name their disease. They are actually proud if they are told it is “the worst case” the naturopath ever saw. They don’t like conventional doctors telling them there is nothing wrong with them , or its stress, or they are just over-reacting to the normal aches, pains, and turmoil the body goes through on a day to day basis.

Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It’s very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.
