Happy Faddah’s Day
My dad was the team doctor for a small high school football team in eastern Connecticut. He used to take me along to the football games and I’d sit on the bench with him and the team. My dad was small of stature (as I am now), not built for football, so we probably looked a bit odd. He was the only pediatrician in the county and took care of every kid, including the football players, from the time they were born until they decided to stop seeing a pediatrician.
I loved those brisk fall days sitting with my dad and the big guys on the sidelines – it was special to feel like part of the team. My dad passed away when I was 19 (almost 40 years ago), but I have many good memories.
Happy Father’s Day!
Aloha all! I’m going to give a special father’s day gift to Coach Chow, and I am going to predict a firm 7+ win season. Seven is going to be tough, but certainly doable…..
happy father’s day y’all!!!
happy anniversary boss!!!
Happy Fathers Day !
Grew up in Compton, California with NO Father in my life. Left me when I was a baby with my mom Grace Sanchez taking care of myself with brother and sister. My Mother was my Father allowing me to play sports all over Los Angeles and trusting male role models who took an interest in me athletically and socially. No car as Mother could not drive because of vision problems so we would walk or bus it to get around all over Los Angeles as my Mom would not allow any of us being deprive despite living in the tough inner city with only general relief funds to take care of us medically or food stamps wise so we can eat every day and night at our single round table. A true provider who taught the importance of respect, pride and character at all times. To this date I instill those values with the many Fatherless boys that I work with at my educational youth center. I pray on this day that I can continue to understand and realize that a Father’s Love is only good by way of his direct involvement and willing to spend quality time with his children through out his or her life time growing them up from babies to the adult world. Mahalo to all you Father Rainbow Warriors of Hawaii Nei. Enjoy this day that you richly have earned !
Boolakanaka, I am with you on your prediction. Go Warriors!!!
Boolakanaka, is right on!
It’s a beautiful day.
#18: Your story very inspiring, bless your mother for making it work for you and family, keep up the great work for kids in need.
Me too, Cliff…no pops ever in my life, and so my mom’s is the mover-shaker in my life, so she gets all the kudos. From Halawa to boola-ville, her basic rules of life:
make no excuses for yourself;
when your right, don’t back down;
showing up and your half-way there; and
there are no bad experiences, just good lessons.
Imua…
Grateful for voices like nutmegger and rainbowcliff–and for those of so many others on this blog. Do I sense some welcome and growing optimism about the season? How many wins, I don’t know, but for sure Coach Chow is building the team, steadily and methodically. May the force be you all and with Coach Chow!
Correction S. Tsai. Joey Iosefa will represent the UH Warrior Football Team cause we are Warriors till the last man stands. I” ll fling my toothpick at you if you say that R word again. Hahahaha
Great Afternoon All!
Happy Faddahs Day!
Happy papa day to all – here, there, and everywhere!!!
BTW, each school pays their own way for the “media day”?
anyone ever come across a “male” housekeeper who cleans/makes up rooms at a hotel? Is this a female” only occupation?
Happy Father’s Day to The Father of us all…The Root and Offspring of David.
RE: #27
papa A-House — good question.
In land hotels I don’t ever recall a male daily “maid”. However, on cruise ships (which is a hotel with twice daily service/cleaning), many are male. They are called “stewards”, and have been since the earliest days of the navy and merchant marine.
The cruise ship stewards are mostly male, but I notice more female stewards nowadays. Aside from long tradition, the job can be physically strenuous as they move and rearrange the beds every voyage for customer preference, take down and put up bunks and sofa beds daily (if used). All furniture is heavy too. A steward has approximately 25 staterooms to tend daily.
Did someone just hurl a toothpick near my glasses?
Happy Father’s Day! Thankful for lessons learned from dad and many caring uncles.
Guud Afternnon Tsaikos…bootiful day.
been a great day…to all the dad’s…HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!
I smell da football in da air….pretty soon…IMUA WARRIORS!
off topic but watching a Miami Sound Machine video..make my feet jumpy…dat lady can sing!
Perfect choices to represent the team. Leaders on both sides of the ball.
Let the Fada’s Day BBQ begin! Descutes Inversion IPA is a good start.
Agree with 34.
Too bad they can’t bring Scott Harding, too. He would be a compelling story, as we say in the biz.
Two sad days: The end of the football season and end of basketball season.
To ST and all the other big daddy’s out there…Happy Father’s Day!!
San Antonio Spurs leaving a lot of love on the floor after winning the NBS championship.
I typed NBA…what the “f”?
I had a hole-in-one today.
Three, actually.
OK, they were on the Bayview mini putt-putt course.
But like San Antonio’s Aron Baynes, I’ll take credit for any triumph.
Since it’s summer, and nobody is reading this blog, here are other acronyms for NBS:
• National Brotherhood of Skiers
• National Best Sports
• National Bankruptcy Services
• No Bull S–t
• National Book Store
• Never before seen
• Normal breathing sounds
Oh wait. It’s not summer yet.
OK, when I’m in charge this is how the seasons will go:
Summer — June, July, August.
Autumn — September, October, November.
Winter — December, January, February.
Spring — March, April, May.
When I’m in charge:
Admission is free for the Honolulu Zoo.
But zoo parking will be $10.
… The first 8,000 to renew their UH season tickets can get Aloha Stadium parking for $100 per stall.
… Beer and hotdog vendors walking the stands. (If I paid for season tickets and parking, I’m not waiting in a concession line.)
… A Leonard’s stand in the Stan Sheriff Center.
… Souvenir programs — with the glossy magazine print — for all UH sporting events.
… Updates on the Aloha Stadium scoreboard. I wanna know Joey Iosefa’s rushing stats while the game is going on .
ST, that’s quite a roll you have. Happy Father’s Day
… Promotions. Remember when fans used to receive sunglasses, seat cushions, cooler bags for attending a game? Where’s the freakin’ swag? Bring back the swag!
… And, of course, a UH Marching Band CD. Or least an iTunes list of UH songs.
… I’d also like to see newspaper sellers yell out the headlines, just like they did in the old movie days. Newsboy caps are optional.
In order to give give away Swag they have to have it. But that would require they actually do something to buy it or get it donated. Either way, it will require thinking and work.
Nope, just do not see it happening.
… No daytime road construction.
Wafan:
I miss swag.
At least I hope it’s the complete set. Not like when they used to pass out ONE ThunderStix.
Or when they gave away mini-basketballs to the first 1,000 to leave the arena.
I remember when UH used to give away a mini sack to promote Al “The Samoan Sackman” Noga.
They also used to have Vince Manuwai notepads.
60 — UH does not have anyone with that jersey number.
I suggested a UH band CD way back in 2007. Yes, I did email Gwen and never did get a response. Did not know the band’s MO was the same as UH’s administration.
Several folks even argued against the CD saying it would be too difficult to secure rights, the CD would be too expensive to produce/sell, no one would purchase the CD, they cannot get the band together to make the recordings, no place to make the recording, etc.
I guess change is too painful and difficult, and having additional income is not an issue.
Mr. Tsai . . . there will be some awesome Swag at the SkillsUSA National Leadership Conference next week.
Just need folks who are willing to think outside of the box who are not afraid of working and change.
It is no wonder why folks are so disillusioned. Well, the foolishness in the valley and trolls on the WB.
The playhouse just is not much fun anymore.
>>Or least an iTunes list of UH songs.
I think I still have a recording of a jazz trio from New Orleans playing a version of the UH fight song (from ’08 Sugar Bowl week).
One of my most favorite swag was K59 Hawaii Islander jackets on the 4th of July. My mom was shrewd enough to have us enter and get a jacket, then go back out, pay the cheap admission again, and get another jacket. I remember doing that at least twice and those jackets lasted quite awhile.
Good morning Tsaikos,
St. Louis Cardinals second baseman Kolten Wong made the ESPN top 10 plays list. #6 I believe. Not bad at all!
The drought between basketball and football begins. 75 days ’til kickoff!
Aloha all–Former warrior Joe Semalo, is one of OSUs top NFL prospects….see: http://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/index.ssf/2014/06/mel_kiper_names_isaac_seumalo.html#incart_river_default
