Enjoy the moments

Maybe the Warriors win the next two games. Maybe they don’t.

Maybe they have three games left. Maybe only two.

The thing is, when it’s March, we’ll all be saying: I wish there were a football game to watch.

So, on Thanksgiving week, enjoy the moments.

    Aloha Tsaikos!

BULLA: Safe journey to Virginia. Don’t forget to wear a white wig in Williamsburg – also good for warmth during the cold temperatures in VA!

  12. Kazz November 23, 2009 8:31 am

Since we’ll be tailgating in “enemy” territory this Saturday, would the debut of the Tsaiko haka be out of the question? 😎

  13. Kazz November 23, 2009 8:34 am

ST brings it down to an understandable perspective again for us.

When football is pau, it sucks. A piece of every Warrior fan, man or woman, dies a little every spring… Good thing for Warrior volleball, mens and womens basketball, softball, and then closing the sports season with baseball.

    The circle of life repeats.

Purgatory from late May through the first half of August SUCKS though!!!

  14. Kekoa November 23, 2009 8:36 am

    Tommui ~ @#11

All Rise!…Didn’t you have to wear one of those wigs on the bench? Not inferring that you wear holding court that long ago! Just wondering out loud on a Monday morning.

  15. Stretch November 23, 2009 8:38 am

I am always in awe when hanging with ST. We were in Napa, making a lunch stop at Taylors when someone comes up and asks, “Are you Stephen Tsai??” Whoa… All the way in Napa and someone knows ST?? He IS the world famous Stephen Tsai.

  16. Kekoa November 23, 2009 8:39 am

Omigod!…Contempt of court citation might cost me this weekend against Navy! My apologies to the court.

bhf2 ~ Can you spare a braddah some pro bono?

  17. Stretch November 23, 2009 8:42 am

BUT I guess the bellman at the Marriott doesn’t know ST. He kept calling ST, Mr Chai. So now we are known as the Chai-kos.

  18. Kekoa November 23, 2009 8:43 am

ST- is that Al and Niko Noga?
    j/k…

  20. Slugger November 23, 2009 8:47 am

    BHF2,

I’ve seen Steve Stepter around at the VB or BB games. Nice kid. Don’t know why he’s not playing.

Grades do matter in getting playing time. Also passing the quiz they take on Friday. Paying attention at practice whether you’re in or not is important.

    ST,

I miss practices!!! Are they still closed? I could see why they would be closed since the Navy has a big presence here…

  21. Stretch November 23, 2009 8:49 am

No 18 – at least they never ask you if you were the basketball referee. THAT would have been insulting!!

  22. d1島 November 23, 2009 8:53 am

    Great Morning All!

Wicked Weekend. Got back late last night. Glad the weather is a little cool this morning….didn’t wanna be shocked back in Hawaii with the sticky kine weather.

Very true about savoring the moments of football season. Hard to believe there’s only two more scheduled games. Congrats to the Warriors; at the beginning of November the Bowl Game hopes were on life support. Three wins later, and it’s “Two, Can Do!”

  23. d1島 November 23, 2009 8:55 am

    Slugger,

Mack can close ’em at ground level (maybe even the parking structure) but those Middies study all kine tricky surveillance stuffs…satellites an’ erryting! 😯

D-1 ~ Excellent photos of the Linfield ‘Cats. At least they are not ‘cheek to cheek’ like our Warriors once they are suited up and are in a standby mode. Very sanitary looking locker room.

College football at any level is what makes it all worth it on any given Saturday. Good luck to #2 son. He looks like he wears #31 with pride!

According to GQ, three of the four most dangerous states are: Nevada (No. 1), Louisiana (2) and New Mexico (4).
Hmm. The WAC has teams in … ?

  44. J-Dog November 23, 2009 10:48 am

Nice to see that RB Joshua Quezada enjoyed his UH recruiting trip, and that it put UH is still at/near the top of his list of BYU, Utah, UW, and Fresno st.

  45. Slugger November 23, 2009 10:52 am

    d1,

You’ll have to represent the Chai-kos. I had a beeg breakfast this morning and I’m not hungry. I’ll trade walking to practice for a Na Koa lunch.

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  46. madeinhawaii November 23, 2009 10:58 am

Come next spring, I’d like to see the Warriors hold practices at different sites around the islands.

Sign autographs… get kids and parents in the various communities to watch and root… have Nakoa and UH with kiosks marketing memberships and season tickets. Maybe even have gift cards with denominations redeemable towards game tickets (includes 10% more than what you paid).

  47. Slugger November 23, 2009 11:05 am

    mih,

In order to have practices around the island with the advertising & sales you suggest, it could only happen on a Saturday. The students have to get cleaned up and go to class after practice during the academic year.

  48. tommui November 23, 2009 11:33 am

    #9 – but I got smu’d before!

  49. Bulla November 23, 2009 11:35 am

tom mui, kekoa, d1 and all da Tsaikos,

East Coast, auryte….waiting for confirmation from team dr. for the green light on the beast to play. the beast says he’s good to go, same kid that broke both wrists when he was 9 rollerblading, played a pop warner game and then said his hands were a little sore when he tried to hold a shave ice in his hands…go figure.

pediatrician told me that his threshold for pain will be a detriment….. is that where you get the term ‘hard head’? haha

if he gets the green light, and by faith we are saying that he does….it’s time for a road trip to VA…….with our road trip sister mrs. higgins, the QB’s mom….let’s go 808……all da way to da top of dis mountain!

  50. Garret November 23, 2009 11:44 am

    madeinhawaii,

The Warriors already had one of the Saturday practices on a neighbor island and they sign autographs after the Warrior Bowl to conclude the Spring, and like Slugger said it would not be feasible to have the weekday practices be in different locations. It will be very important this Spring to get the players fully into the system, so taking too much time away from practice/school for autographs might not be good except for the Saturday practices.

  51. Garret November 23, 2009 11:48 am

It sounds like the way that RGM ended the season has guaranteed him a spot next year in the CFL.

In his mind’s eye, the B.C. Lions head coach and general manager pictured Grice-Mullen slicing through wedges, spinning away from defenders, whipping upfield as if controlled by the coach’s joystick. It has been weeks and months in the waiting, and Grice-Mullen finally came through with an end-to-end, 106- yard punt return for a touchdown in Sunday’s East Division final against the Montreal Alouettes.

Grice-Mullen’s sortie bettered by three yards the previous CFL record playoff held by Edmonton’s Henry (Gizmo) Williams, who did it in a 1992 playoff game against Saskatchewan.

“I’ve been close to breaking one for some time,” Grice-Mullen said. “I probably should have had six already. I was always one move, some little something away. It was good to get that at the time because it really sparked us. It got us within two scores. It was a real big boost.”

Grice-Mullen, much like his team, has been in and out this season. As both a returner and wide receiver, he experienced handling problems early on and was parked for two games so that his confidence wouldn’t be totally shattered. He isn’t completely there yet. Although he caught three passes for 45 passes against the Alouettes, he dropped another.

Still, his place in the Lions universe looks to be assured as a returner. In the Lions’ final two games of the regular season, Grice-Mullen had back-to-back 73-yard kickoff returns.

“It’s all about having confidence and feeling comfortable,” said fellow returner Ian Smart. “As the year went on, Ryan got more and more comfortable back there.”

  52. madeinhawaii November 23, 2009 11:56 am

Saturday practicies at outside locations around the islands would be good. Maybe even invite certain local fund raisers to set up small tents… PR.. community service.. etc.. etc… really make the Warriors “Hawai`i’s Team. Sort of a community awareness effort. Players sign autographs at the cause they want to support. Good PR never hurts.

  53. chawan_cut November 23, 2009 12:24 pm

maybe that GQ list was the most dangerous places for GQ pretty people.
i’ve gone to all 3 states and have come back just fine…. i think.

  54. LizKauai November 23, 2009 12:27 pm

mmm. l/o jambalaya and gumbo with cornbread for lunch. I can hear the OT win cheers and shouts all over again!

    Good for RGM!!!

Bulla- da BEAST has GOT to play… no keeping dat player on a bench, I think!

Hope it all comes together for the big W !!!
    Go Wildcats!!!

Kazz: your boss on vacation, so put da’ paperwork in your pending file until tomorrow! I not going tell….

    Practice more important!

  61. Dan-O November 23, 2009 2:01 pm

Stephen….well said. Since the Warrior victories have been few and fleeting this year, we should be celebrating them….NOT criticizing the victories.

I can see criticizing coaching decisions and player performances in losses, but in wins? Isn’t the goal of every game to beat the other team by ONE point, thus gaining a victory?

Two, maybe three more games…..let’s just enjoy the ride, cause its getting REAL interesting now.

  62. RainbowCliff November 23, 2009 2:02 pm

Good afternoon Tsaiko Nation, got some FREE time as my young people gather in slowly at the Center. Saw Rich2176 in San Jose with a GREAT looking black Tsaiko collar shirt as I would like to know how do I get one ?

Size for me xxxl as I know it would feel and fit good on me with the black Tsaiko badge that I requested in replace of the lost one that I still can’t find.

Can any of you direct me on how to get my Tsaiko shirt and name tag ?

    Mahalo for the assistance.

  63. Kekoa November 23, 2009 2:29 pm

Howzit RC! ~ I’m assuming that SteveM or A-Joe is working on your shirt. I’ll have to check with them on it.

Meanwhile, the custom ‘H’ tags I had put on the shirt you sent me is ready to roll out for the Navy T-gate. I’ll send some pics from that gathering.

Glad to hear that you and the beautiful & charming Rhonda were able to enjoy the pre/post game festivities.

  64. RainbowCliff November 23, 2009 2:52 pm

Kekoa, kind sir MAHALO for the reply and information pertaining to tag and shirt. Wonderful news on the Reebok green Golf shirt with “H” logo as I will be happy to see it on you with the possible pictures that you may send to me.

I and Rhonda had a GREAT time meeting SO many Hawaiian fans as I even had a long time fan come up to me and give me a passionate hug from my playing days 27 YEARS AGO as I smile so humble to him with warm appreciation !

Looking forward to coming home to you GREAT folks as I have 2 weeks of Xmas vacation starting from 12-18-09 / 1-3-10. Will love to see the Aloha bowl as to this date NEVER seen Hawaii play LIVE in it or any body else for that Matter.

An honor and pleasure to be in your extreme company. I Mua Warriors !

  65. LizKauai November 23, 2009 3:00 pm

RainbowCliff- your badge has been ordered… 😎

  66. RainbowCliff November 23, 2009 3:22 pm

Oh GREAT lady Liz Kauai, MAHALO your magesty for helping and aiding my situation. I don’t know HOW I lost the one given to me in New Orleans as I kept it in the many bags I have and to this day can’t find no hide or hare of it.

Will not lose this one as I am very proud to be associated with you GREAT folks on the Warrior Beat. Looking forward to the day I may attend one of your Calf Calls in Hawaii and meet Tsaiko Hawaiians that I never met before.

I am always so Humble to be in your aquaintance as I respect and LOVE you so much Lady Enchanted Queen Wahine of Kauai !

Question your highness the meaning of your phrase “aloha kakahiaka” as it intrigues me every time you say it ?

  67. Kekoa November 23, 2009 3:38 pm

I think Liz may be hard at work RC. The phrase is a greeting. You are wishing someone a “Good Morning.” When she adds the “ka kou” on the end of it, she is expanding the greeting to include everyone.

  68. koakane™ November 23, 2009 3:57 pm

GO WARRIORS…..would love for UH to get the ‘W’ on Saturday.

The Beast has been cleared to play; mrs bulla and i are heading to america on wednesday night to Williamsburg, VA. The journey continues for the WSU Wildcats…….oh yeah……..

Good luck to the Warriors, to the other Wildcats also 🙂

Let us all be grateful for the blessings that surround us. Remember the original 4 F’s of the Tsaikos, Family-Friends-Food-Football….mahalo to every one of you for bringing a smile to our lips and a tear to our eyes…..we have so much to be thankful for…it’s not the turkey, it’s not the stuffing, not even the honey glazed ham….

it’s the memories, the laughter, the hugs, the tears…..that is what makes Thanksgiving so very, very special. Live a little, laugh a lot, but make sure, just make sure that the ones that you hold near and dear to your heart…you let them know how much you love them, and why they are so important to you….

do that my friends, and it will be a memorable Thanksgiving…………. 🙂

  71. RainbowCliff November 23, 2009 4:37 pm

Thank you Bulla for the WONDERFUL Thanksgiving message as your words of what it is all about really hit home and to the HEART !

Have a safe trip with you and mrs. bulla !

  72. Don Weir November 23, 2009 4:52 pm

    Rainbow Cliff,
In SJ it looked like you could do 2 hours of half court with no stopping.
Your weight loss puts you at an XL at the most I believe. Double check that shirt size request.
Got your voice mail and was relieved that you arrived home after such a long drive.

We are planning Na Koa fundraisers/membership drives in Pacific Northwest, Bay Area, LA/San Diego, and Las Vegas. I am thinking that mainland fans will want to see the composite highlights video of all of the signed recruits right after Letter of Intent Day. At least we will have a little football in February.

  73. d1島 November 23, 2009 4:57 pm

Safe travels Bulla and Mrs. Bulla.

    Hiya!

RainbowCliff- I have to agree with Don Weir- maybe 2X at the MOST. You are looking mighty fit these days!

Mahalo, Kekoa for the explanation. I was fully immersed in the HiHo today!

#70- CLASSIC BULLA! Wow… still got the touch!

Dan-O #61 – aye aye (prepping for Sat). Every game, every win is a gift. A gift to enjoy and cherish. None of us knows when our time will come and time spent with love in our hearts and gratitude and praise on our lips is a blessing to all.

It’s time for Thanksgiving! We Warrior fans are, indeed, among the fortunate!

    GO WARRIORS!

  75. Slugger November 23, 2009 6:10 pm

Very entertaining practice this afternoon! Talked to Danny Kaleikini; he’s singing the National Anthem at the game this Saturday. He was practicing with the marching band; they were on the grass field. Fun to hear music while I watched the guys.

I got there a little late. Shane still taking reps; don’t know if Bryant had any.

I think ST took off talking to Brian Smith at the end of practice.

Saw Don Weir driving away in his truck as I walked home. He must have been in the Na Koa office; didn’t see him at practice.

  76. LizKauai [iMac] WARRIORS! IMUA! November 23, 2009 6:21 pm

Thank you for your wonderful message. Well said. The Chai-kos (hee hee) exemplify the Hawaiian spirit ~ accepting & inclusive of everyone. It’s been a blast hanging out with you all since I’ve moved home. Instant ‘ohana! Love you guys! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Safe travels to those who are traveling this holiday!

  80. Don Weir November 23, 2009 7:05 pm

    Slugger,
Missed you. I was on the field for only 10 min.
I landed from San Jose today and went to the office tried to catch up on e-mail and voice mail.

    FYI Tsaikos
You see my truck in the oversize lot, makai side of Klum, I am in the office.
The doors work so well that I can’t hear knocking in the work office so call me. I will open the doors and you can rip me away from the computer and the phones and we can talk story for a while. Stop by on your way to practice and I’ll get you a ice cold bottle of water out of the fridge!

FB Alums starting to contact us for the Centennial Dinner and for the Wisconsin field passes. We are making some headway in re-engaging them with UH.

Dr. Don, kind sir thank you for the complliment as playing tennis and basketball at high levels of athletic play all over Los Angeles has put me in GREAT shape as an xxl will do the trick BUT I can go into an xl with no problem.

Enjoyed everything at San Jose as I and Rhonda had a GREAT time especially in your company ! You are a TREMENDOUS LEADER for Hawaii as I will say it to everyone on this blog that Hawaii is fortunate to have a dedicated professional in your self taking us to the highest level in all areas of athletic competition and fundraising. Mahalo for your GREATNESS !

Now let’s tie up the loose ends deal for Louisville in 2010 as both our Hawaiian California ( “jack daniel ancestors” ) couple is 20 minutes down the road from me in Hermosa Beach as I await their contact to me for an enjoyable re-gathering of Hukilau in the South Bay.

    Pictures will be coming soon.

    Kicking FGs:

Why is it tougher for “right” footed kicker to kick from the “right hash”?

Is it the same on the left side for the “lefty”?

Knowing it is harder, how much practice time is spent in kicking from the “right hash” in high school and during off-season, pre-season, spring and fall camps? Does distance make a difference?

Makes sense to me that any kicker would try to “master” the tough kicks first and then proceed to the “easier ones”; if any.

I guess I need to pay more attention to what Enos does in pre-game warm-up.

Getting sleepy gang as 10:30 eyes are getting heavy. Good night and God Bless.

ahouse….in reality, the degree of difficulty for a righty or lefty is just a figment of the imagination. the goal posts do not move and are parallel with the endzone line. it just appears that the angle differs from the side that one is kicking. the ball is placed no different.

  89. bighilofan2 November 23, 2009 8:45 pm

watching the Texans field goal kicker, iced himself. yup, kicking is a mind game. the ST coach gotta, no questions asked, give love to the FG kicker. gots to, no ifs ans or buts.

I think it was yesterday that I asked for updated information on the football banquet luncheon on December 6. .

Sorry for mixing up D and S Robbs yesterday. I actually had Scott in my mind’s eye while writing, but Don came out of my fingers because he’s been around doing sports stuff for decades now. He’s actually done volleyball color with Scott; however, I doubt seriously if both will be in Las Vegas for the tournament.

Just found the flyer for the December 6 Football Banquet on SteveM’s website when I went looking for information about Saturday’s T-Gate. The Alex Waterhouse Memorial Football Awards Banquet is at the Sheraton Hawaii Ballroom us Sunday, December 6, starting at 1 pm with no-host cocktails and food service at 2 pm. Tickets are $75 each, but unfortunately, the reservation deadline was Monday, November 9 – two weeks ago.

What Tsai-kos will be attending and who’ll be willing to report back to the rest of us who missed the reservations deadline?

HS VB on Fox Sports prime time on Tuesday. 1 pm repreat. CIF SS 1A championship. Los Alamitos vs Newport Harbor. Emily Hartong, 6’1 MB, plays for Los Al. She has a great arm swing like Amber, does the slide very well, not as smooth as Amber but she is in HS and will get better. Excellent jump server. She needs to up her footwork to D1 speed, her footwork speed is similar to Corinne and Alexis. Hewitt said it best, red shirting allowed her to improve her game speed. Jane Crosan, a 2011 athlete, she wants to come to Hawaii, mommy says no, and I am not sure if Shoji is recruiting her.

  103. al November 24, 2009 12:01 am

actually ralph i am now watching my previously recorded match of that very same game.

thank you for not broadcasting the games results.

btw, it is spelled croson and she just might end up a wahine volleyballer inspite of mom’s wishes.

  104. Ralph November 24, 2009 12:10 am

Katey Thompson and Kirby Burnham for Newport Harbor are seniors, don’t know where they are headed for college. Both listed at 6 to 6’1.

    ST

good article on the triple option. wondering how you can prepare for the cut blocks if our scouts are not playing against the starters at full speed amd using cut block technique. gotta worry about the 4th quarter and how anxiety wears you down.
