Daley, Woodard, Clay to NFL rookie camps
> Former UH linebacker Brenden Daley said he has agreed to terms on a free-agent contract with the Atlanta Falcons. It is believed to be a standard three-year contract for an undrafted free agent, with only his $1,000 signing bonus guaranteed. Daley reports to the Falcons’ rookie camp on Thursday in Georgia.
> Tavita Woodard has accepted an invitation to participate in the Seattle Seahawks’ rookie camp this coming week.
> Charles Clay said he will attend the Green Bay Packers’ rookie camp this week. “Relief,” Clay said of the day-long wait. “I’m happy. I’m excited.”

Just noticed an e-mail from UH’s Derek Inouchi, offering these two pictures as well as an apology from the UH athletic department to RainbowCliff:

mornin
Good Luck to all the WARRIORS.
GOOD MORNING HAWAII!
Aloha, Rainbow Cliff..
Re: your inquiry from the previous post last night, my wife & I didn’t return to Hawai’i until 1976 after 12 years in the LA area, so I don’t have any Bows basketball tapes (not sure if VCR format had even been invented yet!). My brother-in-law, UH grad, has very fond memories of the Fab-5, etc., but I doubt if he has any tapes, too.
And, of course, it was Bob Ferguson of Ohio State who had a stunning 80-yard TD run in an early-60s Hula Bowl, not Bob Hayes, don’t know why I wrote that in my previous post. Take care…HB
What was the apology for? Now what did the Athletic Dept do to piss off former athletes?
Cool shorts.
Now that would be a retro night.
Pono:
I wasn’t paying attention. I’m just the messenger. But those are nice photos of the late Reggie Carter, and that was a very nice and sincere apology.
Guud Morning Tsaikos…bootiful day.
One cannot disregard what Rainbow Cliff is posting. He is living it and it is reality. Administration has got to pay attention and take action.
At this point, season tickets should come with a parking pass. First come first serve for regular season tickets, premium parking for those who donate extra along with their season tickets.
anyhoo, da weeds are awaiting….
I long for the day when the current AD dept. is pro-active vs reactive. Rainbow Cliff was right to express his and Mrs. Carters disappointment in not only the current administration but maybe coaching staff as well. Not sure who or where the ball was dropped.
Happy early Mother’s Day!
Too little too late for some who asked but never received.
Sad state of affairs for an entity needing so much help.
And . . . a good Mother’s Day Eve afternoon!
Still have time to do something special.
Question.
If “they” do not read the blog how did they know RC had made the issue public?
Hmmmmm, looks and smells like bovine kaka . . .
#11 Warrior Dave: yes pro active would of been so nice when asked for ANY photos of the late great Reggie Carter to his Mother request back in February 2014. Because of the disregard by one Hawaii basketball assistant coach who ASSURED me that this small request would be done it NEVER happened or was ever going to happen. Mrs Carter, Reggie’s Mother passed away in April, joining her son who lost his life at the age of 35 due to an untimely heart attack. The plan was to have the photos delivered to Henry Hollingsworth who was in contact with Reggie’s mom and he personally would of gotten the photos to her BUT it never happened. Now to save FACE and the embarrassment it makes UH look like the photos come now with Stephen Tsai being the messenger. All I can do is send them to Henry Hollingsworth and pray some how he can get them to Reggie and Mrs. Carter burial site or memorial for his children. Just plain stupid and SAD !
Brother Cliff has a lot of passion for UH, his team mates and for the whole Athletic Department. He recruits and promotes his beloved UH all over his home state.
Thanks Cliff!
Good luck to any current Warrior NFL hopefuls.
Cliff for AD!
Wafan, the request was given to a UH assistant basketball coach who assured me it will get done as the COMPASSION from my sincere words were felt but NEVER taken seriously. Hopefully this PR disaster will lead to UH being more proactive then reactive and having ALL there coaches be accountable to their WORD !
good morning tsaikos
Punchbowl Kid and Pono, MAHALO for your kind words. I am just a former player who takes PRIDE being a former Rainbow Warrior. I take care of my Rainbros here in Los Angeles as going to UH for any support for them just goes out on deaf ears. Very active recruiting for UH while bringing MILLIONS of dollars in tuition fees to the UH campus with incoming freshmen and JC students coming from Southern California. To this date 744 angelinos has heard my INSPIRING words describing Hawaii and why they should become young wahines and kanes to the Manoa Campus. My goal is to reach ONE THOUSAND as I am 256 away. Thank you both for INSPIRING me to share the wealth of the ALOHA SPIRIT !
loving, sharing, caring, aloha, humbleness, etc is not learned in one’s lifetime, but through generations, so to expect anyone who is a first generation in hawaii to be like the true kamaainas is not possilbe. with that in my mind, i can understand why rainbow cliff was left stranded. to forgive uh for this boner is easy, but will uh learn from this boner???? to rainbow cliff, thank you. to the carter’s, may your new life be a blessed one.
Mr. Tsai, thank you for the pictures of my Rainbro Reggie Carter. Did not want you to be related with this PR mess of one Hawaii coach who made all this happen as you are a GOOD guy and a well respected writer but more IMPORTANT then that a GREAT person !
Appreciate your sincerity while having your blog a VOICE to express my concerns. Hopefully this will be a VALUABLE lesson learned to UH that sport is never important then human life as our fallen rainbow athletes shall not only be honored but REMEMBERED for what they did wearing the green and white and accomplish positive results in their lives after the applauds are gone by being productive citizens in their communities.
Take care kind sir and MAHALO for the Warrior Beat !
Whitey, AMEN to your beautiful but wise words. May the Carters have eternal peace !
while the latest UHAD fiasco is an ultimate embarrassment, perhaps it going PUBLIC will cause some “red faces”, but perhaps this kik-in-da-pants is truly needed to spur on the current coaches and administration to never fail a former athlete’s request
yes, in their minds, there is no obligation as they were not present during the days of Rainbow Cliff, but it should come from the HEART – something that can be learned even tho’ it must be via the hard knocks and embarrassing way- if that MBB coach could not find photos immediately, at the very least a message to Cliff that he referred the matter to Derek’s office to search for photos knowing that it was a long, long time ago – it’s the CARING factor.
as whitey posted “loving, sharing, caring, aloha, humbleness, etc is not learned in one’s lifetime” – I will have to disagree, sorry whitey, cause IT CAN BE LEARNED IN ONE’S LIFETIME – how you were “brought up” can have a lasting impression and can affect those who maybe complete strangers – as I watched the Twin Towers explode and collapse I could not believe tears were flowing down my cheeks for complete strangers who died that day – even as I type this my eyes are very misty and damn proud of it!
Mr. A-House, all I can say is THANK YOU for your honesty and compassion for what is RIGHT!
For me my WORD is everything and putting it out there any time I KNOW I am liable and responsible for the results that comes from it. CHARACTER is what we are judged by and accountability is what we are held too. I hope and believe that we all can rely on good morals and values that we come or nurtured from our early beginnings. Thank goodness to our “one’s lifetime” as it is so good that WE were brought up with lasting impressions and intentions !
Bless you kind sir and your OUTSTANDING Ohana !
Looking forward where we would be in each other company again !
A-House,
RC is spot on. I am so glad to have met and know you and your ohana. Such a class act family.
uh is completely reactionary and will continue to be reactionary. a never ending cycle of a lack of leadership and accountability and bullying does not translate into leadership at all. they concern themselves with negative press yet do nothing to prevent things coming up that justifies bad press in the first place.
col, you missed the point entirely. did you learn how to give aloha by yourself or through your parents?? if you did, where did they learn that from?? and whomever they learned from, who taught them. it is not something that went click and you didn’t need assistance, but because your families, friends, and kids you grew up with, all carried on what was taught to them from previous generations.
Rainbow Cliff:
Derek Inouchi is a good guy and UH alum. If he had known about the request, he would have responded. He’s reliable. The miscommunication is regrettable. Moving forward, call Derek or text me at sighdude@gmail.com
hey whitey…i know u old enough….have you ever been to keanae…pass by or go down there…no one can ever imagine how those living there ever treated strangers in them old days…experienced once when in high school…just amazing..
Rainbow Cliff,
It is a lesson learned but if repeated too often the message is lost. I think you have made the point, repeating it just adds drama …..
32. Someone is trolling…
No Warriors drafted. Not unexpected. FA route can be better than being drafted in the late rounds.
Always enjoy seeing players from lesser known schools get drafted. Schools such as Marist, Portland St., Saginaw Valley, Coastal Carolina, NW Missiouri St., Concordia, among others.
32. Amen brother. The point is well taken and it’s time to move in rather be labor the point.
The blame is also being misdirected to the UHAD. It is not his not the administration’s snafu. The double dribble is with the asst coach providing he fully understood the request.
Moving forward, the Lord gives us all a second chance it’s for to do likewise unless you think you are greater than He.
Surprised that the QB from Wyoming went undrafted. Didn’t he pass up his senior year to enter the draft?
Sorry…”. .to move on rather than belabor the point.”
just hope boya jr. is not treated the way RC has been treated…with his offer to
help with streaming..
the qb from wyoming had only one excellent game….against a very porous defensive team…
should not have used that game as to a ‘yardstick’ for his talent…or lack off…
39
brett smith.
nobody wants to be the qb that loses to hawaii. wyoming going get romped oct 11.
is or will be in hawaii or up there ?
Congrats to Brenden Daley!
the invisible alumani…have very many of those huh OSD….

RainbowCliff,
Thanks so much for bringing this situation to the attention of the public. If the desire to “do the right thing” isn’t enough for the employees of the hoops program and the UHAD isn’t enough to motivate them to get their act together, maybe some good ol’ public embarrassment will help.
It would be easy to write this off as an isolated “dropped ball” by some busy people, but it seems very telling of the current state of our beloved athletics department: They seem overwhelmed and they aren’t giving us much reason to trust them right now. I’m embarrassed for the department and the basketball program, and not just for the incident you’ve brought to our collective attention (there’s much more that we can’t really talk about in public even if they weren’t already under investigation). As fans, we tend to give our guys the benefit of the doubt and sometimes become apologists for program, but over the last couple years there’s just been too much smoke billowing out of lower campus to believe that there isn’t a fire burning. Sadly, I think it has to get worse before it gets better. The fact that they are talking about extending the contract of the head coach makes me believe that the AD is in way over his head.
whitey:
you are so right that many, many people helped shape me into the person I am today – most it came from my late Mom, my brothers and sisters, friends, school mates, teachers, and complete strangers!
that’s why I am so fortunate, 50 – 60 years later, to gather in Vegas each April to reacquaint my self with a hand full of individuals I grew up with from 1st grade and through high school – very special friends with whom I would trust my life!
so in my relative short life time, I learned a lot – kept the good and discarded the bad.
and I will presume I will continue to do this until my eye lids close for the last time – and, hopefully, what I did and did not do will be passed on to Midori and Masaboy and their children and grand children
#38 I am being connected to people who I’m going to speak with early next week. I can say response has be courteous and thoughtful so far. I’m encouraged!
Jalansky wrote some cool stuff about Dick Parsons about meeting him and some early traits that carried him through an impressive career.
The football program n basketball program seem to be drifting a bit now….We have no longevity
with coaches there….n the baseball…seems to be on a roller-coaster at times…
Volleyball mens seen ok…n moving in right direction with what they have….womens is always steady under DS….n softball under coolen having a down year….
However seems like all the drama is always generated by football n basketball…lots of negatives associated from them two….
Great to hear that jr….maybe you will be the ‘master key’ to get things rolling…so me here in manila….n thousand others all over….will get to see the ‘home team’ more often on our little screens…thanks 4 all you do…
#30,
Both Derek and Neal are good guys.
trojan, you right about keanae, but also whenever you go to visit anyone outside of town, they are very happy to see you and they treat you with utmost respect. that’s why i always like the outer islands, happy people and good company. plus get sum mean parties with ono kind fuud.
col, i know your kids have learned well from you and mrs a house and it shows. met your daughter at one of the tsaiko tailgate and she reflects your upbringing. great women in your life. the only negative, you got to teach them how to win in vegas. hahahahaaaa
congratulations to Brendan, Charles, and Tavita. fulfill your dream.
Neat pictures. The first pic has Tommy Barker on the right, and UW center and future Piston James Edwards.
RC. Sad example of why UH can’t develop a tradition when new coaches ignore the past athletes and change awards as they see fit. Hope that the legacy they leave was worth trashing the past.
JJ now running into the same problems at SMU.

Happy Mothers Day
Congrats to Daley and good luck to Woodard and Clay on their invites.
And Happy Mother’s Day to all!
Tampa picked up Brett Smith as an undrafted free agent.

Via Twitter, Joe Southwick was invited to Oakland rookie minicamp.
“The Mountain West had a record-tying 16 players drafted over the three days of the draft. That’s the highest since the 2005 and 2009 drafts, when the conference also had 16 players drafted each time. It also more than doubled the seven players who were drafted out of the Mountain West in 2013.”

Anyway, heading out to a Mother’s Day brunch.
Is it me or do folks put more emphasis on Mother’s Day than Father’s Day? 😉
happy Mother’s Day and good morning tsaikos.
Wonder if Schroeder will get a shot.
Let’s not forget Waianae H.S. graduate (and Oregon Ducks DT) Wade Keli’ikipi who signed a free agent contract with the Philadelphia Eagles. Congratulations Wade!!!
