Easy out

Transitions can be difficult, but UH has been helpful in easing the way for the coaches who won’t be retained on the new football staff.

The coaches who will not be retained have been told to be “accessible,” if needed, although it is unlikely they have to be physically available. Their contracts run through March 1.

Na Koa also will pay for coaches to attend the American Football Coaches Association’s convention Jan. 10-13 in San Antonio. Na Koa will cover airfare, hotel and registration costs. The convention offers workshops, as well as networking opportunities.

So far, only Chris Naeole and Abraham Elimimian have been retained.

The advertising period ends tomorrow, which would allow Nick Rolovich to hire new coaches as early as next week.

  1. seewhy December 3, 2015 9:01 am

    Good morning, Tsaikos!

  2. letsgowarriors December 3, 2015 9:03 am

in the past it seemed none of our coaches would attend AFCA, unless you didnt report it. every year id ask if any of our coaches were attending AFCA but never got a response. i was hoping they would attend to network and maybe even get some new ideas.

we shouldnt foot their bill now that they arent coaches. IMO.

  3. seewhy December 3, 2015 9:05 am

ST: Any word on which coaches will be attending the meeting?

  4. H-Man December 3, 2015 9:09 am

The article is unclear which coaches will be attending the AFCA convention. So yes, letsgowarriors’ comment is absolutely valid.

  5. Stephen Tsai December 3, 2015 9:11 am

I think all the coaches are attending the meeting.
    It’s a bonding thing.
All conventions are good (although I recall a few journalism conventions where we arrived at our hotels just before sunrise).
Several years ago, Riley Wallace was hounded by a guy at the Final Four, which served as pseudo basketball convention. He ended up hiring the guy. You might have heard of Jamie Dixon.

  6. letsgowarriors December 3, 2015 9:13 am

point blank, it seemed like Chow and all of his assistants never would attend. that time last year, Chow was in Malibu w his agent son watching Max Wittek and other QBs work out. some of them were JC QBs. which was probably a recruiting violation since it was a dead period.

  7. Stephen Tsai December 3, 2015 9:16 am

Not sure who attended or didn’t attend in the past since I didn’t attend.

  8. letsgowarriors December 3, 2015 9:20 am

is this something Rolo negotiated to have as a benefit for his staff?

  9. Shoko December 3, 2015 9:26 am

Final regular season polls. Interesting New Mexico finished third considering Warriors almost beat them. Crazy.
    1. San Diego State LW: 1 (12)
    2. Air Force LW: 2
    3. New Mexico LW: 5
    4. Boise State LW: 6
    5. Colorado State LW: 4
    6. Utah State LW:3
    7. Nevada LW:7
    8. San Jose State LW: 8
    9. Fresno State LW: 10
    10. UNLV LW: 9
    11. Wyoming LW: 12
    12. Hawaii LW: 11

  10. Frannyk December 3, 2015 9:31 am

ST, any word as to who some coaches might be on Rolo’s list? (Especially OC?)

  11. Shoko December 3, 2015 9:36 am

    Interesting take from an outsider.

Why is Hawaii a hard job?

“A big reason is that after the Chow firing, there were rumbles on social media that Hawaii could just decide to drop the program or leave FBS. This doesn’t seem like an outlandish idea, seeing as its old athletic director, just last year, said it was a possibility. The financial issues that come with running a team thousands of miles from the closest FBS program seem apparent. Even Bruce Feldman tweeted the program might not stay afloat.”

  12. Legistlature December 3, 2015 9:38 am

If Na Koa did not pay, I think coaches would still attend AFCA and pay their way.

  13. Sangamon Keith December 3, 2015 10:03 am

#12 attendance at the AFCA might be in individual contracts for professional development (i.e., clinics to improve knowledge of new systems), but if it is not, don’t you think the UH wants to be known as a good coach-friendly program since it is cheap when it comes to payroll? I’ll bet most schools provide these benefits just like professional courses for employees are paid for by companies, schools and other institutions. Professors are going to conferences all the time … you can’t see your coaches going to their annual professional conference?

  14. Traitmanz December 3, 2015 10:05 am

Rolo is out visiting Milton, Timoteo and Muti today. He should visit Sean Auwae and Keala Santiago as well

  15. seewhy December 3, 2015 10:09 am

IMHO, that was just a scare tactic used by BJ to get fans to re-support the program. Like many others have said, there is no way the upper campus would cut off its main source of revenue to the athletics program.

  16. seewhy December 3, 2015 10:13 am

I hope Rolo at least talks to Malepeai during his Mililani visit. It wouldn’t hurt.

  17. 3-Prong December 3, 2015 10:14 am

At Kahuku, Rolo should talk Brad Anae out of BYU. This kid is going to be awesome when he fills in. 6’4″ 220 and can run. Defensive end. Not sure if St or Jr.

  18. Jeezy33 December 3, 2015 10:19 am

    17. Doubt we have a chance but he’s my favorite defensive player in this years class

  19. Warrior Fan December 3, 2015 10:54 am

Hopefully Rolo is talking to Anae, Santiago, Latu, Malepeai, Milton, Kalakaua…shoot…even pay a visit to #13 QB from St. Louis..lol.. I mean why not right…

  20. justsomeguy December 3, 2015 11:08 am

I often believe Jeezy to be overly pessimistic. I’d love you to see the bright side a little more often and spread some positivity rather than doubt.

That being said, I agree with what he said a couple days ago. WE NEED QB’s. I would lay down a decent amount of money that there are some 2 and 3 star QBs in Cali that aren’t getting the attention they want, and would consider the chance to play in a very exciting offense.

Because of our recruiting limitations, evaluation is critical, and we should look at some JC QBs, pick the one we think is best and go all in with him. Perhaps we have a gem in Zwahlen or Riley, but you never know till you know. Ikaika is a solid young man, with all the heart in the world. He has earned a spot on this team and Rolo should find a way to include him but I don’t think he’s the right man for the QB job next year.

  21. Jeezy33 December 3, 2015 11:21 am

Pessimistic?.. You mean honest? If you are looking for someone to tell you what you want to hear vs the actual truth, then just ignore my posts. Am I supposed to search under the rug to find positives from a disasterous 4 years in Chow era

  22. Jeezy33 December 3, 2015 11:23 am

On another note. Rolo is getting after it in recruiting so far that I never saw under Chow or Mack. This is without a full staff so we can throw those excuses previous staff made about recruiting. Pumped we offered Isi Holani after years of telling the coaches to while at Hilo. So compliment if you are a Rolo guy. I’m a hater if you are a Chow guy.

  23. Haleakala December 3, 2015 11:24 am

It’s good that Na Koa is supporting the coaches to attend the convention even if they won’t have a job at Hawaii next year. It’s always a good thing to not burn bridges and to have these coaches go out with a good feeling. You never know where they may be in the future. Hawaii needs to be try to be first class in attitudes and actions.

  24. kapakahi December 3, 2015 11:30 am

Might be a longshot for UH (with Helton being retained as USC HC)…..but still hoping that Crusader OLB Jordan Iosefa still getting recruited by UH. The only Kahuku running plays that weren’t successful were run to Iosefa’s side.

  25. letsgowarriors December 3, 2015 11:33 am

i think we gotta get on Iosefa. rumors but i think USC gonna go in a different direction

  26. kapakahi December 3, 2015 11:36 am

The assistant coaches……Rolo, Miano & Lee brothers, etc……were all “constrained” in their recruiting efforts under Mack.

  27. letsgowarriors December 3, 2015 11:40 am

tsai u got an easy job for tomorrow’s blog. call Milton Timoteo and Muti and see how their meetings w Rolo went

  28. Makai December 3, 2015 11:43 am

Is Timoteo still commited or is he going to Wasu?

  29. Jeezy33 December 3, 2015 11:44 am

    26. So far, I’m liking his aggressive approach to recruiting. Hope Naeole jumps on board and realizes. If you’re a coach and not even on Twitter, you’re 10 steps behind period.

  30. Derek December 3, 2015 11:47 am

With the emails, text messaging, the Internet, etc. there is no excuse for not getting a solid recruiting class, along with phone calls and visits. There is no shortage of prospects out there. And people who are genuinely interested in the UH program are more than willing to provide good leads. It’s a matter of working 24/7 hard to get the job done and doing the proper evaluations and projections.

If June Jones raves about the kid Spear from St. Louis, it’s worth a look by Rolo to check it out. Leave no stone unturned. Don’t ask me because I haven’t seen Spear but one game. By all accounts so far it appears Rolo is trying to recruit hard and that’s a positive. Be humble and lead by example.

  31. PONO December 3, 2015 11:49 am

Jeezy what sites do you follow to stay so up to date on recruiting?

  32. amela December 3, 2015 11:53 am

The head coach makes all the final decisions on recruiting based on the teams needs but sometimes you just need to recruit a good athlete even if there are no positions open. Can always find a spot for him or if the others fail.

  33. Derek December 3, 2015 11:55 am

If Kalakaua Timoteo is wavering I suggest Rolo call Steve McGarrett to tell Kono Kalakaua to book em until he signs with the Warriors!!! Hehe!

  34. Maddog50 December 3, 2015 12:10 pm

Na Koa supports several endeavors that are not budgeted or available including a things like maintenance of the grass practice field. Don’t begrudge a “job fair” for guys who came with good intentions. It’s kind of like mini severance deal and always leave the door open with class behavior. Now even though the holidays are upon us and I have supported Na Koa thruout the year, I am compelled to send a little something to get the party started. Hope I have much company! Play Warrior!

  35. clyde December 3, 2015 12:20 pm

Re: recruiting. I recall hearing Rolo say on a radio interview that he planned to stay here and touch bases with kids on Oahu while sending “one or two” coaches to the Mainland, expressly to contact JC players with the signing period coming up. Think he was hopeful of setting up visits with JC players before signing day (is it Dec. 16?).
When Rolo mentioned dispatching a couple of assistants to the Mainland, I figured Stephen’s “guesses” about Abe and Chris being retained were true as the interview took place several days before their hiring was announced.

  36. A-House December 3, 2015 12:20 pm

eye waz elated to read dat UH will take 10 other coaches to Australia in 8/2016 — talk to possible recruits for their respective sport – way to Matlin!!!

dat also poped into me head las week

  37. jeezy33 December 3, 2015 12:21 pm

    31. Only use sites for the database on players and to see reported offers. But Rivals, ESPN, and Scout all work.

  38. Legistlature December 3, 2015 12:21 pm

don’t you think the UH wants to be known as a good coach-friendly program
ARE U SERIOUS….Do coaches really believe this? Are they coaches looking for a coach friendly program..IF SO, I’d say that person is in the wrong business $$$$$
might be in individual contracts for professional development
I’ll bet most schools provide these benefits just like professional courses for employees are paid for by companies
    Thanks#13 Keith

  39. Rodney December 3, 2015 12:26 pm

    Jeezy 33
Im for June Jones not behind Rolo(nice guy)
I like reading your post, find it interesting.
Do you gamble on football games?
Do you bet on Hawaii football ?

  40. Legistlature December 3, 2015 12:40 pm

In 2016 I’ll say we have as much wins than chow had in his tenure here
Will see…can’t wait…let’s get this jet off the tarmac and on the field

  41. WarriorNY December 3, 2015 1:00 pm

So what are our biggest recruiting needs?

I’m thinking D-line… Any other ideas??

Also, it is a bit funny how someone went completely silent today…

  42. jeezy33 December 3, 2015 1:12 pm

    1. D Line
    2. 2 QB 1 HS 1 JC
    3. O line
    4. DBs
    5. 2 RB 1 HS 1 JC
    6. Athletes

  43. Legistlature December 3, 2015 1:17 pm

    41. game players in all positions…not practice players..Game Day! bring it.hehe

  44. WarriorNY December 3, 2015 1:19 pm

You think 2 qbs? I was thinking Zwahlen was going to be our starter for four years…

  45. jeezy33 December 3, 2015 1:26 pm

    44. Lesson learned from Chow. Never put all your eggs in 1 basket. None of us have seen him play under the lights. Also factor injuries. Best thing to do is to create as much competition as possible. I would sign 3 QBs personally. Groom 2 FR and have 1 JC kid come in. We used to sign 2 per year with Jones and Rolo in charge of the offense but we are behind right now because Chow didn’t recruit QBs.

  46. Warbow December 3, 2015 1:30 pm

I suggest Role hires jeezy33 as his recruiting coordinator. Seriously, Rolo can have his very own Mel Kiper Jr.

  47. kanak December 3, 2015 1:36 pm

Totally agree, most marquee position with the least success rate. Stockpile QB’s and hope that one of turns out. Signing Milton is a start to creating depth…

  48. Derek December 3, 2015 1:37 pm

You can never have enough players, especially like a critical position like QB. I heard that some power 5 programs have at least 6 QBs on their roster. Some, who can’t get enough playing time at QB also move to play other positions, whether it’s RB or WR or safety, etc. They can also go back to playing QB if the need arises. But, I like the idea of getting some extra athletes who played QB in HS, where the versatility is important. Players get hurt all the game in practice, in games, in accidents off the field too. If need be, Ewaliko can take some snaps. Joey Iosefa was a QB in high school. I like the idea of a player who can run and throw both effectively. Then you’ve got something there. A Vernon Adams, a Greg Ward, JR., a Marcus Mariota, a Russell Wilson type, etc. I’m hoping McKenzie Milton will turn into that type of player. He needs to get stronger and put on about 10 to 20 lbs of muscle. The best for him his first year is to redshirt to do just that. But, you never. He just might be too good to keep off the field.
But, I just think he’s just a terrific football player and I hope he will be committed to us as he has said before. Timoteo too! He reminds me like Jason Rivers in how he played and in stature. Good luck to both of them. As Darren Hernandez said in his OC16 telecasts, Milton, Timoteo, and Malepeai are all big time. Who’s to dispute him?

  49. kanak December 3, 2015 1:42 pm

How bout bringing in another JGW… Jamell Garcia-Williams, Jerroll’s brother? Def a project but 6′-8″ with room to grow.

  50. alamihi crab December 3, 2015 1:45 pm

    # 46 Warbow December 3, 2015 at 1:30 pm.
    I agree with you.

Jeezy33 – you can really help the football program – go apply for the Recruiting Coordinator job.

  51. letsgowarriors December 3, 2015 1:46 pm

Jamell is at Victor Valley JC. didnt produce much so i think we can hold off on offering him

  52. Rodney December 3, 2015 1:50 pm

We need a few LT and a centers.

  53. proud UH alumni December 3, 2015 1:54 pm

jeezy, what are your credentials that would make you a serious hire as a recruiting coordinator?

  54. cocobean December 3, 2015 1:57 pm

Can’t have enough big guys on both lines. We didn’t have enough big bodies to survive this year’s schedule, next year’s schedule is looming just as tough. The trend in college seems to be an increase in the number of plays per game. I don’t have the numbers in front of me but I’d guess our D was on the field for 80+ snaps for most games. You need depth to have your D reasonably strong going into the 4th Q.

Nick Saban may have had a point when he wanted rules in place to slow down the pace at which plays could be run. And this coming from from the coach with the most defensive depth.

  55. seewhy December 3, 2015 2:04 pm

So true. Darren saw it first hand in August.

  56. NorthShoreFan December 3, 2015 2:07 pm

    Guud Afternoon Tsaikos…bootiful day.

Exciting time with all the recruiting going on.
Question, do you offer/recruit a kid whose academic standing is shaky, or do you try to get someone of equal talent but on good academic grounds? It’s a gamble.
6’8″…!@#@?? heck you can’t teach that! Heard a coach once state, “physical superiority cancels everything out.” but then again, watching Kennedy go up against bigger guys, well we know who wins most of the time.
Puzzled that Ben Clarke was Honorable Mention. Take away his year long injury and….
    Anyhoo, IMUA WARRIORS!

  57. jeezy33 December 3, 2015 2:21 pm

My take on Milton. I think it would be smart for Hawaii to sign him. But, need to realize that he is small and his frame is pretty thin as well. He wouldn’t last 3 games if he took the hits Wittek took this year. Yes he is faster and wouldn’t be in the pocket as often. Just saying we need to be smart with him and would be smart to bring in another QB to compete with.

  58. Bryson December 3, 2015 2:23 pm

Remember when JJ would have 4-5 Qbs on the roster and people would wonder why…you can definitely never have too much signal callers

  59. Bryson December 3, 2015 2:31 pm

I wonder if the delay in hiring coaches also has to do with union mandates of job posting time-frames

  60. C-Pop December 3, 2015 2:31 pm

    Recruiting Needs:
1-DL, can never ever have enough DL, they can move to OL if needed etc.
2-DBs, worst coverage I’ve watched vs SJSU every long/3rd down pass was completed. Coaching, scheme or players? Hard to witness
    3-QBS, always need depth, competition
    4-WRs, speed, speed, speed
5-OL, always find OL in HI, Ca, w coast.
6-fast shifty RBs. Lots of FB types in state.

  61. C-Pop December 3, 2015 2:37 pm

LBers are plentiful in islands – SS types, FBs, RBs can all turn to become LBs, even QBS- Gouveia, Beaszley ex:

  62. Bryson December 3, 2015 2:37 pm

Everytime we get a commit someone should #defendpriderock

  63. C-Pop December 3, 2015 2:40 pm

Recruiting all TOP prospects in state vs Pac 12 & other schools is another matter.

  64. islandman December 3, 2015 2:40 pm

The job posting for the assistant coaches says the Closing Date is “Continous”.

  65. jeezy33 December 3, 2015 2:49 pm

    58. I think it has more to do with Rolo wanting to find the right coaches. I don’t think there needs to be a rush if he has his recruiting plan out and working like it is so far.

  66. jeezy33 December 3, 2015 2:50 pm

    59. San Jose was the only game I didn’t watch all season. Were the DBs really bad or was there no pass rush? In prior games, I felt like our pass rush was the bigger issue and inability to stop the run. When you can’t stop the run, it makes it even harder to defend the pass when Safeties are up in the box.

  67. mctruck December 3, 2015 2:55 pm

C-POP, re ur #59; As far as WR’s=speed & hands.
The crop this year couldn’t hang on to passes. Auwe la dat.

  68. z December 3, 2015 3:10 pm

Need more cb types especially with the offenses we see these days. They can always play safety. Need more speed at lb. We had a hard time covering fast runningbacks. Load up on talented big bodies to build depth on our lines.

  69. kapakahi December 3, 2015 3:14 pm

JMHO but also need at least 1 more ILB…….since losing top 3 (Gener, Fonua, Poti)……with JGW being a senior next season……with not much experience among the likely candidates (Willams Jr., Mageo, Matautia) to fill out the 2-deep rotation.

Re-recruiting Ngalo (SMU bounceback with 3 to play 3) should be a priority.

  70. kapakahi December 3, 2015 3:24 pm

DL back-ups (Fa’alogo, Moananu, Manoa, Choi) played more snaps against SJSU because the DL first-teamers (KT, Rasmussen, Gifford) were more banged up. MKK (moved over from OLB) didn’t suit up for SJSU. Gifford didn’t even suit up against UL-Monroe.

  71. Haleakala December 3, 2015 3:47 pm

    Need an offensive lineman?
Fred Ulu-Perry may be considering a transfer to Hawaii according to this article. Probably Rolo cannot contact him yet since he is still technically with UCLA. But maybe his family can reach out from their side.

Fred Ulu-Perry Not Currently With the Program
    Tracy Pierson
Dec. 2 — The promising freshman offensive lineman Fred Ulu-Perry is not with the program but home in Hawaii…

Freshman offensive lineman Fred Ulu-Perry has returned to his home in Honolulu, Hawaii, because of homesickness, according to sources.
Ulu-Perry left school during USC week.
It’s uncertain if Ulu-Perry will return to UCLA, according to sources. He and his family are in contact with UCLA as Ulu-Perry decides what he wants to do.
A source close to the situation said there is a possibility that Ulu-Perry could want to transfer to hometown Hawaii.
It’s not the first time Ulu-Perry went home because of homesickness thi season, doing so about a month into the season. It was hoped he’d get acclimated to UCLA, but this most recent trip back to Hawaii in November/December could be an indication of Ulu-Perry deciding to leave the program.
Ulu-Perry played this season as a true freshman at offensive guard, and also played defensive tackle. He was expected to be an integral part of UCLA’s offensive line in the coming years.

  72. MAKA December 3, 2015 4:10 pm

That’s good news kila kila…he can sit out a year, and be even better and more
    mature in 2017.
Be a good one for our OL.

  73. Dennis Halloran December 3, 2015 4:54 pm

city College of SF, Rolo connection, is playing for National Championship
Look at their EDU address and the news release for possible QB and Defensive PEOPLE

  74. kimo browner December 3, 2015 5:11 pm

Rolo has already stated by strong inference he will select someone to make the play calls. That would fit among others–JJ. Someone expereienced. Indeed that is a very intriguing statement. I have heard a NFL team maybe courting JJ for OC. There have been informal conversations. Just talk. Also, it seems logical that ROLO sounded as if he had pre-selected someone which doesnt match a JJ alignment. Since they both applied for HC. It could be as simple as Ron Lee. Just thinking out loud. Or it could be someone else close to Rolo. Whatever. Certainly makes for interesting speculation.

  75. Dano December 3, 2015 5:21 pm

Wazzu is much improved this year with Coach Leach’s pass happy offense.

  76. C-Po December 3, 2015 5:26 pm

Kimo Browner – did u watch State D1 title game St Louis offense had no clue 1st half vs Kahuku D, protection for Tagovailoa was nonexistent, adjustments were not made until 2nd half when Tua got rid of ball quicker to pressure side, I was disappointed in Ron, Vince & OL coach, the were out coached by Red Raider coach Vavae Tata & D staff!

  77. wow December 3, 2015 5:33 pm

“The advertising period ends tomorrow, which would allow Nick Rolovich to hire new coaches as early as next week.”

This means the speculation about JJ, Miano, etc can still go on …..

  78. BigFan December 3, 2015 7:17 pm

I thought JJ had 7 quarterbacks on the roster. I believe he thought that was the position that drove the offense. He also thought cb’s were key as good ones were hard to get and they could also end up playing another position.
Ohio State is a good example where they had one of the qb’s play tight end.

  79. oldtimer808 December 3, 2015 7:44 pm

Maybe Stutz could be in the mix as an offensive coordinator which appears he is having some success with his run and “stred” offense at a small college.

  80. NotNasti December 3, 2015 7:56 pm

    65. Jeezy: Hammer, nail. You hit it on the head, without watching.

  81. cappie the dog December 3, 2015 8:06 pm

The football program isn’t on probation.

I found that under the rug.

  82. cappie the dog December 3, 2015 8:10 pm

I have a few things to say about the women’s basketball team.

I don’t want to call anybody out, so I’ll refer to them in code.

The point guard isn’t a point guard.

The way she dribbles incessantly at the top of the key reminds me of Kareem Nitoto during the Bob Nash era. The point guard is an undersized small forward.
    Her best asset is rebounding.

The recruited point guard has to get untracked.

  83. NotNasti December 3, 2015 8:18 pm

I sat in the chancellor’s box for the SJSU game. It’s between Kekaula’s booth and the replay booth. We were getting ready to head down to the field prior to the start of the 2nd half when the SJSU coaches walked past us on the way to their booth. Down 35-0, we begged them to take it easy on us. They just chuckled and kept walking. Hey, we won the second half.

Just for fun, I did a little looking and found that the 2008 team, HC Greg McMackin, had nine quarterbacks on the roster: 1) Greg Alexander, 2) Inoke Funaki, 3) Tyler Graunke, 4) Brent Rausch, 5) Steele Jantz, 6) Shane Austin, 7) Jake Santos, 8) Kiran Kepo’o and 9) Will Brogan.

People tend to forget that Jason Whieldon is the only UH QB to beat Alabama, albiet when The Tide were on probation and David Shula was the Head Coach. No matter, UH beat Alabama. Whieldon will go down as one of the greatest trivia questions.

In those days, UH was very competitive. JJ beat Northwestern and Michigan State in the same year, although in those years NW and MSU weren’t like they are now. Still, they are in the Big 10 and they got big lines. But, old timers like me remember that Tomey ‘s teams played tough against the likes of USC, Nebraska, Oklahoma, etc. We need to get back to that level where we can be very competitive again against the big boys.
Come On, Rolo! Get some recruits, we are way behind in getting commitments.

  87. BigWave96744 December 3, 2015 9:01 pm

    Will Brogan left on 2006
    Kiran Kepoo medically retired
    Steele Jantz was cut
Tyler Graunke was suspended in the spring

San Jose States QB looked like Johnny Football. Accurate in the pocket or on the run. He nearly as fast as the fastest players on the UH roster. He was assisted by a running back who looked like a bigger Donnel Pumphrey. Not a single UH player could start for SJSU on offense. Their o-line dwarfed our d-line and our linebackers were too slow and not physical enough to stop their running game. That was how dominant they were. In other words it wasn’t just our defensive secondary who were got skunked. SJSU took their foot off the gas pedal in the second half which meant the score did not indicate how dominated we were.

  89. Old Diver December 3, 2015 9:27 pm

Harris would be the 3rd or 4th string running back on SJSU.

  90. Bryson December 3, 2015 10:39 pm

Sounds like Muti reaffirmed his commitment to UH tonight

  91. Jeezy33 December 3, 2015 10:58 pm

    88. Just need Alema Kapoi now to secure 2 of the top 3 DL in 2016 class. I think Anae is going to BYU but that would be nice to get Kapoi and Muti along with 2 JC DTs. Hoping Josh Fatu and Isi Holani.

    Milton Aboard

  93. Bryson December 3, 2015 11:06 pm

I can’t remember being this excited for recruiting over the past 4 seasons…and these aren’t even new commits…lol

  94. Jeezy33 December 3, 2015 11:08 pm

    91. Now you know why I complained and grumbled about Chows recruiting and inability to connect with fan base on social media the past 4 years. It’s the simple things and working smarter that get fans to buy in.

    Thank u

Glad Rolo is putting in the work. Some of the guys are starting to look else where due to the recruiting suspension.

    98. Thanks for the article. Way to go Rolo!!

  102. mileHIwarrior December 4, 2015 4:10 am

#96 I don’t know much about recruiting as most of you and I don’t know what Coach Rolo tweeted but isn’t it against the rules for coaches to talk about recruits?

  103. cappie the dog December 4, 2015 4:29 am

It’s a moot point because Ivin Jasper didn’t apply, but Milton could have run the triple option. He must be suited for it, because Navy was the only other school to offer him a scholarship.

  104. cappie the dog December 4, 2015 4:35 am

What I remember most about the Michigan State is that post-game, the head coach(who classlessly blew off Furman to be the interim at Arkansas) complained so loudly about the officiating, future Big Ten opponents could dictate who got to work the games.

  105. Pacheco December 4, 2015 6:27 am

Which current UH players would you cut from the team to free up scholarships? If I remember correctly, some 20-25 players were cut, kicked off, or didn’t have their scholies renewed under Jones in 99.

  106. Maddog50 December 4, 2015 6:56 am

Don’t know why anybody who is not aware of NCAA recruiting regulations would even broach the subject regarding infractions. As long as names are not specifically mentioned it is not even close to an infraction and is common place. The stuff, that goes on in other places bump ins third party communication etc is more than the rule. Coach Rolovich is a smart and clean guy so I prefer to,applaud his actions rather than question or doubt-Go Warriors!!!!

  107. PONO December 4, 2015 7:35 am

Rolo on twitter is huge. Instant updates on recruiting. I bet Chow was still using the brick style cell phone or using pay phones to call recruits. You gotta change with the times and keep up with the young kids.

  108. jeezy33 December 4, 2015 7:47 am

    104. Been saying this for years now… Weve only been 4 years behind because Chow didn’t want to adapt. He preached working hard but nobody told him that a text message or a direct message is more effective and less time consuming than 50 hand written letters with 17 year old kids.

  109. PONO December 4, 2015 8:12 am

I hope Rolo also uses snapchat, IG, Vine, etc. Twitter is an old technology for these kids. They are always on the latest app.

  110. PONO December 4, 2015 8:15 am

Rolo’s recruiting coordinator should setup social accounts and manage them for all of the coaches. It’s a full time job just to continuously update these account with relevant stuff for the recruits. My company has 40 dedicated people to social media.

  111. Kifi December 4, 2015 8:41 am

Snapchat and Vine? Still trying to figure out what IG and Twitter is?
