Draft guru is today’s show guest
Our very own Curtis Muryama was today’s guest on the Warrior Beat Show. Here are the answers to the questions he couldn’t get to on the show:
[Comment From Pauoa Boy]
Curtis, which former UH players that didn’t get drafted do you think has the
best chance of being picked up via free agency? What are the chances of Chad
Owens and Ryan Grice-Mullens, making into the NFL seeing that alot of teams
are looking for that next Wes Welker type slot and these two fit the bill.
It’s hard to get back in once your time has passed. When that happens, players might take circuitous route, such as CFL (Jeff Garcia, Doug Flutie, Warren Moon). Grice-Mullins is probably going to CFL. Chad was a guest on the show earlier and he wants to get another shot. He was doing well in the Arena League before blowing out his knee. Each year, 250 or so players get drafted, hundreds of undrafted ones get camp tryouts. That’s tough competition.

I hear the 1st pick bonuses are ridiculously high.
anybody know the signing bonuses for the first 5?
According an Internet report, the top 5 went like this:
1, Jake Long $30M guaranteed; 2, Chris Long, $29M; 3, Matt Ryan, $34M; 4, Darren McFadden, $26M; 5, Glenn Dorsey, $23M

nfl draft….
these days no one wants the first pick. especially this year since
there is no clear cut top dog. why pay 30 mil to one who may not make it past two years? the detroit lions can even sell the first pick away. there is a lot of talk of standardizing the first year contracts and bonuses. curtis, what is your take on creating a ceiling limit on rookie contracts?
The rookie salary ceiling was under discussion earlier and the NFL commish questioned the sanity (my word not his) of paying such a big bonus for someone who hasn’t even played an NFL down.

Happy birthday to the Lady in Red — Caryn Kunz Lesuma, graduate of Kahuku High and Stanford University. She’s also one of the best Advertiser singers.

Don’t forget the big karaoke call on May 9. Two of my coworkers, Gwyn and Missy, have agreed to join us. Now, if can only get Liane to sing, too. Anyway, please join us by contacting SteveM.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CARYN
roysan16 – Jack Flash gave a good post about stretching.
Good morning people.
Happy Birthday Caryn
Happy Birthday Caryn

jojo

SteveM
You can’t lurk and be first! 🙂
oh, happy birthday caryn!
Happy Birthday Caryn!!
It was actually my tenant who hit the hydrant.
I called the house and said: “Everybody better use the bathroom now because the water is going off.”
so curtis…..while we got you on the hotseat.
who do you feel will draft veikune, ingram, and mouton? perhaps a list of your top three possibilities and why?
does josh leonard really have a chance to be drafted?
do you think elimimiam and a. leonard will get free agent walks?
mahalo in advance.
ST – I am glad it was you, your family or the AHouse Ohana involved.
Happy Birthday Caryn!
Hauoli Lahanau, Caryn! Hope to se you on May 9 at KK!
Getting back to what Jack Flash said in #273 (prior post), I agree makes a lot of sense. And he brings up a good point. Madeinhawaii #275 added good insight, too.
In fact, now, I can remember the first question my doctor recently asked was if I was thoroughly stretching after 1 hour walks and I said never. And he laughed and said that was my problem for stiffness in the legs and back problems etc.
So what I did for a lifestyle change, by accident, was daily sitting on the floor cross legged, stretched out etc–reading, watching TV and eating meals, usually up to an 45 mins at a time. This works out in curbing the pain in my back. Prevents me from eating my meals too quickly. And it also gives me a spiritual uplift as I add some brief prayer, too.
Look at the different cultures and people. And seeing how sitting on the floor each day promotes better health for them and how meals are said to be digested easier–I’d agree. Better sleeps, yes.
How the importance of stretching more after practice for an athlete having a significant impact is something we’d never did 30 years ago. In fact, never. And I can, now, see the benefits.
But what I might also suggests while we’re on the subject of stretching is if the players would try (or anybody that wants to alleviate stress or the rigors of a health problem) sitting on the floor daily they’ll see the benefits I see. I think sitting on the floor (just in the sitting position-crossed legged or legs extended out) induces one to becoming naturally lubricated. And stretched.
And the best thing is that you don’t have to set aside time out of the day to do this. Just the everyday things you’d would normally do on the couch or at a dinner table try doing sitting on the floor and doing it–I’m telling you the benefits are great and it induces better health, imo.
CURTIS- Do you think the Redskins will trade Colt Brennan and a future draft pick for another QB in this draft?
Aww, thanks, all. I’ve officially joined the quarter-century club! And I’ll try my best to check out the KK. 😉
quarter century….geez you could be al’s granddaughter!
duffer – She could be my daughter! Okay, I would have had to be a father at 10 years old though. 😆
Things I’ve done longer than Caryn’s been alive:
• Out of high school (31 years)
• Out of college (26 years)
• Been married (27 years)
• Been at the paper (28 years)
• Weighed more than 150 (30 years) …
Wow ST! I’ve been over 150 lbs. just this past year!
I’ve lined up two coworkers — Gwyn and Missy — for karaoke night.
LizK:
You missed my post – 49ers going draft Sanchez and trade him to Washington for Colt and a future #2 draft pick.
WOW, ST, that water gyser must have been a “REALLY BIG SHOW” ( late Ed Sullivan).
Please send in questions for Curtis Murayama on the NFL draft. We’ll copy them over for Leila to read on the show. Thanks!
roysan16….i just went back to the last post.
no, i am not the “ombudsman”, but, thanks for the compliment.
st’s post:
I’m the cause of global warming?
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article2387203.ece
no wonder it gets hot at the cc’, kk’s, and tailgaters.
st….this just doesn’t sound right. no what i mean?
Roysan…
NFL like practice might also mean that the 1st team gets the vast majority of reps and the 2nd and 3d team get much much less. This works if no one gets injured, but backfires on you if your 1st team guy gets dinged and your 2nd team guy folds under pressure. Also practice squads = scout teams AND, to protect their investment, there are limited contact drills, especially for the 1st team players.
duffer
are you forgetting that we are the same age?

http://www.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/20090421/BREAKING01/90421054
what do you expect the phins to do? many prognosticators have them going offensive skill position, mainly WR’s such as Hakeem Nicks or a DHB or Kenny Britt. Do you see them going WR in the 1st round and does this effect our very own DBess (i’m thinking not so much since he’s more of a slot guy). thanks
I thought you were a year older. Me and Koakane are the same age.
*Question*
In your 3+ decades of evaluating the NFL draft, which one stands out as the best?
duffer
you know you sound like the “ombudsman”.
hmmm.
but, i look five years younger than you guys. in fact all my clients think that i am ten years younger than i am. well, the visually impaired ones that is.
Does anyone know what time the UH Baseball game is on today? Is it only radio broadcast, or will there be an online feed somewhere?
nfl draft….

the detroit lions can’t even sell the first pick away.
there is a lot of talk of standardizing the first year contracts and bonuses.
curtis, what is your take on creating a ceiling limit on rookie contracts?
Question for Curtis: What do you hear about the draftable players with Hawaii ties, Afalava, Maiava, Unger. Question about USC islanders from CA, Maualuga and Moala, what do you hear about these two guys, 1st and 2nd rounds respectively?
bball game 3:30 iirc
the detroit lions can’t even sell the first pick away.
sorry about that
ST:
That is neat – thought it may have been Midori7 as she leaves home about that time, but since no call, I rested easy.
Hope your tenant was not injured.
I hear the 1st pick bonuses are ridiculously high.
anybody know the signing bonuses for the first 5?
ST — what work does Gwyn and Missy do at the ‘Tiser? Last person you brought to a Karaoke Call turned out to be a PowderPuff…
duffer — you are closer to my age then, since I am not as old as Al… 🙂
ST,
Is that the first time you got photo credit on a news article?
mih….1st pick is 30 mil contract. thereafter, it drops considerably.
what gets me is that, where else are they going to play for even half the money?????
the nfl is hostage by its own system.
O.K., O.K., ……I give up!!!, I’ll sign up for half what they giving the 1st pick; I’ll just make do. bwaaaahahaha!!
imho, aaron curry is going to team up w/ either ernie sims, pisa, or derrick johnson to form a pretty formidable LB crew for one of those lucky franchises.
speaking of the princess!!??..she looks prettier by the day…ST, you lucky dog you!!!
forgot to add in, it’d be nice to give pisa that type of help, but my rams are probably gonna go OT instead..
princess, beautiful as ever, mahalo for making the show ‘palatable’; ST, nice shirt, and Curtis, ‘on it like a hornet’ as usual
mahalo guys

Great info/advice on the sitting and stretching. I’ll corroborate what Jack Flash said about latest research on warming up. Most effective seems to be dynamic stretching by gradually warming up the muscle groups you are going to be using. I.E. “do the activity you’re going to be doing” for the warm up. As the muscle warms up, the internal resistance of the muscle decreases and the muscle stretches easier and faster.
If track coaches are forced to choose between stretching before or after a workout, everyone I know would choose AFTER. That’s because the muscles shorten and compact to protect themselves from the running and jumping. Afterwards, it’s good to stretch them out (esp quads) to increase the blood flow through the muscle which encourages quicker recovery/healing.

CURTIS MARUYAMA
What’s your guess for the Redskins first two picks?
Which position(s) is the draft strongest this year? Weakest?

Good move, very sneaky and quick I might add, to move the mike closer to ST and Curtis – could hardly hear Stephen.

COLT WATCH!
http://tinyurl.com/ctqf5c
“Be kind,” Colt Brennan said on Saturday, after we had spent a few minutes discussing the NFL Draft. “Don’t throw me under the bus.”
So let me say this up front: take all that follows with a grain of salt. We were just two sports fans at a hockey game, discussing the NFL between periods. But I was asking the football players in attendance whether they were excited to watch the draft this weekend. Here’s the short answer: “No.”
“I never watch that stuff,” Brennan said. “I fell asleep last year. I don’t have a lot of respect for the NFL draft, to be honest with you, because of my experience. I think what’s more important is what happens after the draft. That’s what I care about. I just don’t have a lot of respect for the NFL draft process. Obviously something’s not right, because they make a lot of mistakes, year-in and year-out.”
Wow. Strong words, no?
“I don’t care,” he said. “It’s the truth. I don’t ever have to go through it ever again.”
Big C – It’s a good thing because I just got over my nightmares since the last KK.
Homey only had nightmares because he had to be DD for KK! He wanted to get wasted doing shots all night!
Nightmares?! WTH??? Thats what happens when you drink too much…
ST — does this imply Liane is attending also? Will take Caryn’s “try my best” as a YES since she has attended before… 😛
How you got sucka’d into THAT, homes?? Sheeesh….I’d never promise such a silly thing….
Bwauhahahaha….
Since you here, SteveM: I bringing those white chocolate pretzels and sumtin’ else……don’t know what, but sumtin’ goooooood……
I drank only 6 beers so I was ok. The funny part was when me, Koakane, and (J)J met Pride. afterwards!!!
Big C – Just don’t bring that time of the month!
Time to head off to Waipahuuuuuu!
Why Waipahuuuuuuu????
Okay, Waipahu. There, better?
yeah, what? eating again????
Yep, okay bye.
Good afternoon gang….
Happy Birthday Caryn!!!
Gotta agree with post #63…MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Rob25, wait, homey was the DD…I thought it was KK??? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Big C….continued prayers for you and your ohana….take time out for yourself as well….
Oh yes, homey…can’t be late for kau kau time, right???? Boy, you make like you starvin’ or sumtin……
No worry JJ, I will, eventually…..Thanks, eh! I posted some updates on the pink side….
Very informative interview with Curtis. He shared his perspectives on the up and coming draft. But beyond his picks he shed some info on how he derived at his picks, like talking to NFL scouts and people in the know, reading off the internet, watching and listening to mock draft shows; and mostly personal observation. This is another interviewee that you’d could listen to all day, and not be bored. Because it’s that interesting.
Where others may have been ingesting all the football talk on today’s show, I was taking in on how affable Curtis was. And how personable Leila and ST are. Don’t get me wrong, I followed the football talk, but the show is so pleasing to the sensory perceptions. And this is comforting and entertaining to me as I take in what I see and hear. Maybe it’s the contrasts in appearances I see in Leila and ST that adds to the show. I think, for one is so elegant in appearance, like a swan. With tell tale signs of innocences and demureness. And the other, not meaning to sound mocking, more in the lines of looking like a ugly duckling, especially when seated next to someone so beautiful. Sorry, it’s just the first things that comes to mind when I see them doing the show. Yet they blend together. And I think it affects the show in a positive way. Add to this the exchanges of wittiness between the two and it’s easy see how a fan club can be developing…or eventually more and more viewers to the show.
Looking back at past shows, and they’re indeed are getting better and better, but take a look at how comfortable the guests are and how freely they answer the questions. If the litmus test is how the guest are happy, comfortable and affable while they’re doing the video chats then it reflects on great job that ST and Leila are doing. And the guests, how I see it, are having a great time on the show and are imparting a lot of information that, we, the audience have a yearning for. So thank you for another great show, Leila and ST.
Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark, home of Arizona State baseball since 1974, is one of the nation’s most beautiful collegiate ballparks. Known for its wonderful aesthetic features, the outfield wall is lined with palm trees, and just beyond the right-field fence is the award-winning Karsten Golf Course.
In left field, sparkling Tempe Town Lake and the Tempe construction boom is visible. In the distance, the Superstition Mountains offer a picturesque backdrop. But for every bit of beauty that envelops the facility, there is an equal dose of tradition.
The facility is the home of two national championship teams and 14 NCAA regional tournaments. Arizona State’s all-time record at Packard is 894-257-1, for a winning percentage of .776. Last season, ASU was 26-6 at home and over the last five seasons, ASU has won over 80% of its games at home.
Dimensions of Packard are 338 feet down the lines, 368 feet in the power alleys and 395 to straightaway center. The fence is 10 feet high. Located five feet beyond the center-field wall is the “Green Monster,” a 30-foot-high batting eye. Only 18 players have ever hit a home run over the Monster.
With a capacity of over 4,000, Packard has more than 3,000 permanent seats in the main grandstand. Field-level box seats are also available behind home plate. The remaining seats are located on popular grass berms, which run down the first-base and third-base line. Berm seating offers outstanding views of the game and provides fans with a different way to watch and enjoy the game.
In 1995, the Sports Turf Manager Association awarded groundskeeper Brian Johnson and Packard Stadium Field of the Year honors. In addition, a 2003 coaches survey published in Baseball America ranked ASU’s baseball facilities among the Top 15 in the nation.
Over the years Packard has received numerous upgrades, including a practice infield (1997) and indoor hitting facility (1998). The practice infield was donated by the Arizona Diamondbacks and offers a full size infield that is used for various defensive, bunting and baserunning drills. The 6,000 square foot hitting facility was provided by a private donation and includes 5 batting cages and a separate area for speed and movement exercises. A new Daktronics scoreboard was installed in left-center field in 1999 and is fully equipped for graphics, animation and messages on its matrix board.
Just before the 2003 season, ASU installed a brand new playing surface featuring major league quality drainage and irrigation systems. The playing surface consists of tiff green grass in the infield and Bermuda grass in the outfield. The dirt portion of the infield is crushed red brick, which can be found at many major league stadiums. The playing surface is annually referred to as one of the nation’s best.
A new players’ facility, opened in August 2004, includes a clubhouse and a state-of-the-art sports medicine facility. The clubhouse also includes a video room, study area and meeting room.
Head Coach Pat Murphy also had an office constructed that is located on the terrace level of the new clubhouse.
Packard’s existence was made possible through a gift to Arizona State University from Guthrie and Peter Packard. Both are alumni of ASU, and the stadium is a tribute to their late father, William Guthrie Packard, a prominent member of the publishing industry for many years. Mr. Packard served the Shephard Company for 51 years, rising from sales representative to President and Chairman of the Board. He was also active in various community and church affairs in Colorado and Arizona.
Coloma…Yum, I will make sure that I get at least one of those pretzel things…they were soooooo good!
somebody please tell roysan he is not going to get any colt brennan autographed helmet for sucking up to the blog host and editor.
roysan….i am glad you have a sense of humor.
wow….i just saw the picture. hey, if liane comes too i just might make it to the kk.
Rob: No worry!!! I make secret stash fo’ you, k??
Hey…what happened to Gwen’s pic?!?!?! :mr green:
Happy bday Caryn 🙂
Sundevils just swept Stanford and hold a 3 1/2 game lead in PAC 10 standings.
watchout for Jason Kipnis, .410, 10 HRs, 50 RBIs, you’ll be seeing the Kentucky transfer in the majors.
Aurtit’y Lets get ready for some Hawaii baseball in 100 deg. temps and 4% humidity in Tempe.
Let go Bows!
It’s been a down year for the Pac-10 — the conference is typically in contention to send five teams to the field of 64, but this year they’ll be hard-pressed to match that number. And unless one of the middle-of-the-pack Pac-10 teams gets hot down the stretch, they could get only two teams.
ASU, Oregon State….and maybe USC.
Whoa.. those top five draft pick signing bonuses at the top are pretty steep.
#98-al
it does look obvious, doesn’t it–I agree
but you know me by now, I’m an independent thinker
and i can paint pictures people can appreciate
and conversely, too, I can paint ones they don’t want to see.
what you’ve learned, though, is that there’s no deviation in what I see
or the pictures I paint.
so dey yo go
’nuff said.
roysan…..you need to show up at the next cattle call. should be fun.
hawaiianbod:
Gwyn said her pic looks “bad” and she didn’t want it posted.
Geesh.
Good luck to the Baseball Bows in Arizona!
Will miss hearing Don Robbs’ voice, but will be interesting to hear what the ASU’s announcers say about us.
warriorfanny2: thanks for the ASU ballpark info
I guess you folks will have to see her in person.
Based on past Karaoke call attendance data, I have Caryn = yes, Al = no.
ST,
Wow Missy is a looker, are you trying to increase numbers to the Karaoke events. If I didn’t live in the mainland I’d be there to mingle with the beautiful wahines.
Game on- Go Bows!

Happy Birthday Caryn?

Happy birthday, Caryn!

practice? maybe you should volunteer some time with the oline coach.
Practice Wed..I’ll be there… SJ, I will bring the flash drive..hahaha
Steve M.,
May 9th is a confirmed date for Bulla & Co., for the KK. I will probably bring the Beast, last night home before returning to Americal for summer school and training.
i will spread the word to the ‘bombers’, they will probably be doing a training mission before then……
incoming…………………………………..
OK…who wants to break the bad news to Lyn’s “hubby”? 🙄
Happy birthday Caryn!
Al- that’s my theme song. Hahaha…
Al no need. O-Line coach already spent a whole lunch period with Kokane. Koakane gave him some tips on improving techniques and schemes of the O-line. KK shared with him how he shoud work their basic fundamentals everyday all throughout the season. KK said that Gordie was very attentive and receptive to his mana’o. O-Line going be 100% better now. No sacks in 2009.
hey ‘hubby’ how’s the ‘muu muu’ lady?!?!
For the Tsaiko’s planning on coming early for Breakfast on Saturday. The menu items available:
~ Eggs ‘n Portuguese sausage from Maui. Would have been eggs from Hilo, but BHF2 wen strangle doze birds!
~ Blood Sausage for Rob25 will prolly be turned down, so first come….
~ Animal parts of all shapes ‘n sizes for the grill.
~ Homemade Corn bread baked by Mrs. SailorBlue.
~ Plans are in the works for Guri-Guri to be served to the lucky first t-gators to arrive in time. Jason…here’s your chance!
Of course there will be the usual array of sushi’s and other delicacies to choose from. Just come on down to celebrate our 1st t-gate of the year, and re-new old friendships. It’s also a good time to make new ones, and bitchslap those trouble makers who been pickin’ on you via the blog!
i guess he is married and therefore, a hubby too.
oh,oh, oh, my sides are aching so much.
eh, check your name. bwhahahahaha.
#137 i can just picture him, kk, trying to coach the coach. with all his serious intentions.
mwahahaha.
I wonder if Coach Gordie could hear through the Damien tract pidgin’ accent.
Pride the tree trunk is there but the top is bolohead….no shade
anybody know the score of the Baseball game today?
1- 0 hawaii bottom of the 4th
Hey Y’all!
Interesting meeting this morning with a guy I had never met before today. He’s a manager at one of Honolulu’s most noted companies. Turns out he’s a blogger here! He didn’t give me his nic, I gave him mine and he still didn’t kick me out of his office! 😆
Any whoo, he said he loves the blog and ST’s great “insider” tidbits. This shout out is for you Mr. “Mystery Nic”.
Can’t blame Colt for being bitter about the draft. Must have been gut-wrenching. Glad the ‘skins are saying they are going give him a good look this year.
UH is playin’ ASU pretty tough so far…
We need for Garret or Jason to give us an analysis of how many recent top draft picks actually end up being worth their huge signing bonuses…
Young Kolt extends hitting streak 2 12 GAMES.
Bowz 1-0 bottom 1.
excusehaw 1-0 bottom 5.
Why in the world did the coach pull Little after 3 perfectly pitched innings? Must be saving him for the weekend or something.
2-1 AZ
jack….more important for them to win the wac games. i am sure each one is on a limited pitch count today.
dpk….why bother?
why go through all that trouble if you aren’t going to share with everyone who this guy is?
i tell you bro, you gotta stop eating those veggie burgers and eat some real meat.
Hmmmm…that’s 3 making the infamous blog “Maryann(e) Slip” now… 😛
al- got it. Still, i’d like to see them give their best against a Pac-10 powerhouse team. Actually, pitching has still been ok. Defense on the otherhand…
devils w 3 in the bottom 5.
Jesse Moore mixing it good, but McD is sleeping.
Bowz are 4-9 trailin after 5.
3-1 ASU. top 6. vinnie, kolt n McD.
Just got up from an early evening nap.
High temperatures hit 101 degrees here in the desert today, so that’s why I’m here at home and not rooting on the BaseBows at Packard Stadium.
I can barely catch the station the game’s on (AM 1060), so I’m stuck listening to 1420’s online feed. Miss Don Robbs, but Tim Healy, the voice of the Sun Devils, isn’t a bad substitute, IMO.
second time in two games kolt is given bunt sign w 2 outs….the kid is hot, wazzup?
Looks like coach Trapasso is using this game to mold his team.
3-1 ASU bottom 6.
dang…. i might miss the next karaoke kall now. work calls me off again.
top of the 7th now, 3-1 ASU- time to wake up those bats!
al-
I don’t think he wanted his name mentioned here. Or his company.

No beef. No pork. No fun… 🙁 That’s life, I guess. I eat a little of both sometimes when I really get a craving.
then why mention it in the first place?!?! duh!!!
Oh well.
On to Las Cruces.
my ears was burning so I am here. first to say the oline with be much improved for the 09 season. no matta if its pigeon, chinese or pocho if the oline cuts down on sacks they improved. the talk story was all good.
uh down 5-1 bottom of seventh. asu player just hit opposite field hr. pitcher number 6 change. asu has almost hit for the cycle while uh looking like getting out for the cycle. another double 6-1.
Maryanne??? Whose bringing brownies????
kden sun devils winning by a bunch so turning off the radio. asu has now hit for the cycle and batted around. nuff already.
al,
WAC wins good but RPI could be important, too…at this point, probably moot point.
I wonder why I bothered to mention it?
🙄
hey zesus how you?
KK…you sure only your ears were burning??? LMAO
Hmmm…hope margin of victory (or loss) not factored in too much fo’ RPI.
koakane:
Did that fifteen minutes ago.
Would rather have the ‘Bows focus on the WAC. Getting a win from ASU would have been nice, but its only a single game. Stats buffs keeping track of UH’s RPI probably won’t see much of a change from this single game. It’s the four game series against NMSU that’s more important.
d1 #175:
Unless the baseball RPI formula has changed, margin of victory (loss) isn’t considered.
KK talking bubbles again….who’s zesus??? MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA
College Baseball RPI Formula:
RPI = (.25 × WP) + (.50 × OWP) + (.25 × OOWP) + Bonus – Penalty
WP—winning percentage
OWP—opponent’s winning percentage (average)
OOWP—opponents opponent’s winning percentage (average)
Bonus and Penalty formulas are like Col. Sanders’ secret recipe. Who knows how they are calculated?
Thanks CRW.
Hopefully, the Bows will take tonight’s game … brush it off and use it to motivate them against Nevada with a vengance.
Oops! Make that NaMaSU.
roflmao when your fbook “What Greek Goddess are you?” said were Zesus
NMS has 4 hitters in the top WAC-10 in BA, hits, runs, HRs and RBIs.
We are going to need a strong effort from Garcia, Montplaisir, VanDoornum, Chavalier, Johnson and Morford.
Also, CT has been using Kevin Fujii in the second game of DHs to relieve Hernandez.
Against SAC, Landon did not DH.
He has 3rd best BA, so I hope CT was just giving others a look….we need all our hitters in the NMS series.
just turned on radio to find out what the score was and crap worst than before.
dinna so outta here, what shinto tei bwhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Our ticket to the dance is winning the WAC tournament.
Finishing #1 in the regular season is important for seeding.
While this game against ASU will go against Hawaii in the rankings and for regional-host consideration, the WAC prize is priority. Still, our effort today does underscore our hitting vulnerabilities when our pitching goes south.
Bows maybe a WAC conference contender but not made of regional-busting stuff.
Positive stuff:
bowz continue to be aggressive at the plate as evidenced by the low pitch count by ASU throwers–we are continuing to attack the ball. IMO, that is the formula to get it kickin.
Trap had an opportunity to work his pitchers against a top team.
He is a good pitching coach w great instincts and Im sure todays game will help his evaluation for the NMS series.
The drubbin humbles the bows, gives CT an opportunity to get their attention and refocus on basics.
Lets play bigball in Las Cruces—Jubo be there!
Pretty cool that UH is one of 4 schools mentioned that have had more NFL draft picks over the past 4 years than many BCS conference schools. This fits in with the info on the WB show today.
That should be 9 years, not 4.
Belated happy birthday.
Silverado High School (UH is very familiar with this school!) has a good LB recruit, but unfortunately he’s leaning to BYU now. He hasn’t been hearing from UH at all…but I thought I’d post this because UH might take a look at him in the near future.

I didn’t realize that Lelie had the highest receiver rating in college football this decade!
Jason,
I saw that article but wasn’t sure if I was going to post it or not. I think that it is sad that so many schools are playing 2 D-IAA teams this season…but they just want the extra home games to make extra $$$. Given current economic conditions, I’m not surprised this is happening.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention this earlier; a Vitaminwater ad jogged my memory. There’s nothing wrong with athletes drinking Vitaminwater, as long as they don’t drink certain ones a lot:

Article about the proposal the MWC presented today to the BCS Commisioners.
Note that ESPN’s deal with the BCS was with the understanding that the BCS format would not change through their contract…which doesn’t end until the 2014 bowls! About hopes for using the antitrust threat against the BCS, even the MWC commissioner admitted that wouldn’t work in court.
I was going to post the link to the USA Today article that mentioned Jake Ingram, but it just showed up on the Advertiser website so I can provide a link to that instead.
Testing… no posts for 1.5 hours? 😕
Where is everyone…
@ Comrade SteveM
Posts boring that’s why.
We need to have some fun then… Let me think…
@ WreckinEyez

Too late…
@ WreckinEyez
You need fun? Roysan16 is funny. Garret no humor.
Hey Steve, You can reach me at Joshua(dot)(my last name) @Gmail
Haha Russian… I know Garret is all business, Great guy means well.
British Intelligence is watching me. I leave now.
SteveM,
Oh yeah, heading home for a few days next month. Might be able to stop by the KK on the 9th…I’ll be dragging someone with me. Actually, she’ll enjoy participating. I on the other hand, prefer to sit back and document these things…
Steve, back in the day when one took over a certain event, it was called “Beaugarding.” When someone does it today, they are called a blog hog. The term fits certain people more than others here.
When it happens, some figure it’s time to go walk their dog, or water the house plants. However, they do serve a purpose, and we are lucky to have them I suppose. Er..umm, just not all the time! It can cause people to lose interest and wander away for 1.5 hours.
here we go again…
Steve, sent you that email
Wreck! ~ Eh Hawaiian! Where in da hell have you been dog! I’m assuming you’ve been lurking. By now you should know about da next KK with Frank25 back in town.
Geez we miss you at these gatherings and at the T-gates. I’m putting together another Tsaiko All Star Band II for the Return of Ronnie, on the 4th of July. Hope you can make it guy! Call me.
Hiya Wreck! Miss ya!!!
Grrr…
just spent some time prowling around the Redskins blogs…
Cool thing is that Colt’s outspoken, “emotional” (but smiling) comments about the NFL draft have won him some new fans.
They like his “no sked, just say it” approach and want to see him out on the field to prove that it’s what comes after the draft is what counts.
ok. I’m tired… the words are slip slidin away!
Sweet Warrior Dreams!
Bogarting?
Beauregarding?
Boo Hoo Hoo?

Whee is everyone?
Actually, these days, it could be facebooking or going over to the pink side
😈
Nitey nite!
Hi J. Looking forward to meeting you for the first time after all these years. Bring your camera– we’ll waive the $10 camera surcharge at Karaoke Calls due to your professional work. 🙂
Hi Wreck — long time no see! I’ll pass the info on to the usual suspects…
Liz ~ I think the Beaugardner is frustrated with the massive column inches displayed by some folks. I know I get to wordy at times.
Garret posts tons of stuff, but he always has kept us up to speed with info. Maybe the new kids, Roy & wf2 bore people with minutia…I dunno. Whateva! Wreck’s back!
Beaugard — re: #226
This would apply to many of us, myself included, especially back in the days of DPK chasing Al’s dinner, the Wreck and James jokes run rampant, the Long Time UH Fan and las vegas comedy hours, Bulla teaching english and restraint, Addahknowjoe and pride. talking rocket science, etc.. Of this group, Garret has been the most consistent and has brought unity to many mainland Tsai-kos. If he post a lot, then I think most of us in the photo below will yield him our unused share nowadays… 🙂

I read somewhere that there will be swap meet this saturday at the stadium….anyone been to a swap meet lately, is it packed around the stadium making parking limited to the lower section fronting the ticket office?
I dig Obama’s comments with Ken Miumatalolo at the White House:
“Coach Ken, thank you. We were just talking — he’s another local boy from Hawai’i. He’s four years younger than me, but apparently we’ve got some mutual friends.
“I want to congratulate Coach Ken, as I said, from my original home state, also the first Samoan American head coach in the history of Division I-A, just the third Navy coach since World War II to have a winning record in his first season.
“Your starting quarterback is also Hawaiian —where is he? Kaipo (Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enhada) — where is he? … I hear Kaipo is a pretty easygoing guy. He doesn’t get rattled easily, performs under pressure. That’s the Hawaiian spirit. That’s how we roll.”
Aloha from the tropical islands of Hawaii on the coconut wireless in digital paradise…
Good Morning TsaiKo Ohana…..
Congratulations to Coach Niumatalolo, QB Kaipon and the rest of the Naval Academy Football team….great TV coverage for the local community and transplanted islanders around the nation…my mom worked with his mom at BOH…she also went to his wedding here a few years ago in Hawaii
Back to the Future(of Lurking)
KHNL article about UH’s new secondary.
This site has a list of athletes (and others in the sports industry like MarK Cuban) on twitter. Tadd is included on the list.
Great Morning All!
Beaugard?
Sounds like something my dog does…..
….really though, doesn’t everyone’s computer have a “pg dn” key? 🙄
Have a good day erryboddy!
HiHo…..
Geez, did anyone notice that it had been almost an hour with no posts *before* I started posting last night? I guess people will want to blame me for that too…I had a busy day at work so I didn’t post anything until last night instead of posting during breaks like I normally do.
Good Morning All! Hope everyone has a good day
Good morning crew. Thank you again Garret. I always do enjoy your off topic contributions. Interesting articles, and thought provoking information. Keep ’em coming, everyone has a voice here.
good morning tsaikos. hope all is well with all of you.
new post up
Had the honor and pleasure of attending the 2007 Poinsettia Bowl game and the debut of Ken Niumatalolo as the Head Coach of the Naval Academy Football Team. Went with a couple local guys and we all had a sense of excitement and pride in what was happening. And the fact he became the HC for a US Service Academy during a time of war and the bowl game taking place in San Diego…..super special, super chicken skin. From the kinda low Navy jet flyover (small kine shi shi da bibidis) to their inspiring fight song to the great game itself, it was an event that I will pridefully remember and tell of for the rest of my life.
Very happy birthday Caryn Kunz Lesuma
If Mel Kelper was such a expect on the college game then why isn’t he around to argue about the BCS .
