DE interested in UH
The Rainbow Warriors are proving there is no offseason for recruiting.
A defensive end who was on a BCS roster this past spring has expressed strong interest in joining the Warriors. The player and his grandmother are scheduled to visit Hawaii next week.
The player had made a verbal commitment to a BCS school, changed his mind, and then accepted a scholarship offer from a second BCS school. He participated in this past spring ball. After that, he requested — and received — a release from his scholarship.
He would have to sit out this coming season if he were to transfer to an FBS school. After that, he would have four years to play four seasons.
* * * * *
When the phone did not ring, Kaniela Tuipulotu decided to get into the ring.
OK, make that the octagon.
Tuipulotu, a former UH defensive tackle, is set to make his MMA debut on an Aug. 17 card at the Lahaina Civic Center.
He was considered to be one of the Warriors’ top NFL prospects entering the 2011 season. He played through that season despite a chronic shoulder injury that required post-season surgery. The operation limited him at UH’s pro day and, likely, kept him from trying out with an NFL team. When no other football opportunities emerged, he decided to focus on the next step of his life.
He went on a strict training program that included jiu jitsu and wrestling.
He said he has lost 75 pounds since his last UH football game, and now weighs 245.
“I feel good,” Tuipulotu told the Warrior Beat.
If you wish to buy one of his fight T-shirts, it’s $20 (with an additional $2 for shipping). Sizes range from small to 3XL.
Send checks to: Kaniela Tuipulotu, 501 Ilikahi St., Lahaina 96761.
And don’t forget to include your address with the order.
yay bah dahbah do!
once again, the 2013 recruiting season goes on and on for the Warriors – YAHOO.
ST will provide us with the minute details later as we sit and twiddle our thumbs and shift our bottoms and later drool if this DE is the real deal!
Aloha, welcome mystery DE.
Hope grandma loves paradise!
Initially made a verbal commitment then changed his mind and signed with another school.
Participated in Spring practice then asked to be released from his scholarship.
Hmm.
Good morning Tsaikos!
Nice to see that players are looking at UH. And, as the last few seasons have shown, you can never have enough linemen.
Best wishes to Kaniela.
Yes, as Shoko indicates, it makes you wonder. But UH may just be the thing is looking for.
There’s no way that it could be the same player who committed to ND then Decided To Stay Close To Home Instead…could it?
MWC Media Days is next week! A sign that football season is fast approaching. Also, a opportunity to gamble like a certain blog host likes to do.
http://www.themwc.com/sports/m-footbl/media_day_2013/m-footbl_media_day_2013.html
Does this DE have a name? How about a hint? High school where? First committed to? Ended up at? Come on!
Shoko… The one your thinking about is a DT not a DE. And that DT your talking about was daddy’s boy.
Hint: These are good BCS schools. So you can rule out schools that start with a C and end in an O.
Really? That’s a hint?? Lol
ST is he transferring from a PAC 12 School? Maybe one that our current Head Coach was associated with?
So, its a PAC-12 school?
Okay, I’ll take a guess that it was Cal since they went through a coaching change.
so clemson is out and oregono. haha.
So Penn State v. UCF in Dublin, Ireland.
How is our Osaka Warrior Bowl coming along?!
GOOD MORNING HAWAII!
Don’t pay attention to the idiot!
Wait for fast finger ST!
Keep the lid on, ST – be tough – no additional “hint” – let us beat our brains to identify the mystery DE
know that there are some very talented Tsaikos and bloggers who relish secrecy and will research and contact others to be the first to identify him – great pride in being first!
me, I’ll be lazy and sit back and acknowledge the intuitive nature of this blog
Imua Warriors!
Imua future Warriors!
Best SC!!!
Mystery QB and DE.
I think he was referring to Colorado.
Good Morning Gangeez!
Suspense, anticipation and questions… hall marks of great writing.
But this is a football blog, Mr. Tsai! Why the hush hush on the DE?
Top Thirty!
Good luck to Kaniela!
Yeah kkobi425! –
Da mystery QB! Wut gives?
Oh, to be in the mind of the blog master… come to think of it, never mind! 😆 J/K Tsai-rah you da man and you gots your reasons.
I was gonna say that Colorado is not a bad BCS school, they gave us Colt. But I accidentally hit the enter to submit.
So Idaho is out…
Good refreshing morning 😎 everyone
mmmmmm starts w/c and end/o sounds like
buffalo dodo
He said you can rule out schools starting with c and ends with a o. So it can’t be Colorado.
Meanwhile, Rolo’s Wolfpack qb got nominated today for
the 2013 Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award.
Fajardo is one of 34 quarterbacks on the list and one of four from the Mountain West.
That reminds me… What ever happened to Iuta Tepa? Is he healthy? Or will he be when Fall Camp opens?
For that matter, anyone know about the status of all the other Warriors going into camp?
and the quest goes on to ID the mystery DE – remember, he only has a strong interest in coming to Hawaii – he or Grandma may not like Hawaii – don’t know why as we got the best climate and people, well not all, mountains, oceans, deserts, snow capped mountains in the winter, and Tsaikos!!!!!!!!!!
The other three qb’s fro the Mountain West are”
Chuckie Keeton, Utah State
David Fales, San Jose State
Dereck Carr, Fresno State
So these teams will be hard to beat…
The spam on this blog are like the big iridescent flies at the tailgate that just won’t go away.
DE from WSU Ekuale would be nice.
Hope UH defense stays strong and healthy all season.
We need to recruit “tutu”.
So another DE, tho not for this season, will be a welcome addition.
Boolakanaka: ’76
Good Morning from Paradise!
Good morning Tsaikos!!!
Hmmm…and the mystery continues….
Good mornings…another day, another bit of positive news. Go, momentum, go.
50 with Spam!
Mystery DE? Maybe that 4 (or 5) star kid that was intent on going to USC but they reneged?
Perhaps people should compare the spring rosters of every team with the current rosters
#36 that is so funny! I just hate those BIG BLUES” and wen you get lucky and smash one, get plenty guts. Yep, irritating, great comparison.
Good morning everyone!
Looks like a good mystery story brewing.
I’m pretty sure the “mystery” QB has a pretty familiar surname.
didn’t ST write that you rule out schools that start with C and end with O so would that mean that Cal and Colorado is not one of the schools.
Only local DE that committed to BCS school was Titus Failauga to Oregon State…hmmph. What do we win if we guess correctly?
sounds like the mystery player would’ve had to have been an early enrollee… meaning they finished high school early and started college in january. well that’s my assumption if they participated in spring ball and was on the team’s roster.
there is a mystery QB?
the one ST mentioned about transferring and spending the “sit-out-year” as the scout team QB?
would it not be more beneficial to the 3rd or 4th QB to be playing, gaining experience rather than pacing the sidelines while the 1st and 2nd string QB work out with the team?
playing with and getting to know the substitute OL and RBs and receivers can be very beneficial in 2 years when they become the starters or immediate back-up.
I don’t think the DE is from Hawaii.
Don’t jinx it st… Could be best defensive recruit since sopoaga
Kylie Fitts?
Demarcus Walker?
mystery DE is not from the Islands if they are flying in and Grandmama is the chaperone
thus, we need to look schools in the PAC 12 or Big 12 or SEC or Big 10 and eliminate the schools starting with a C or ends with an O – ha, good luck to anyone who wants to go through this puzzle!
since ST said it starts with a C and ends with an O, doesn’t that specify a school that starts with a C and ends with an O or does he mean all schools that start with a C and all schools that end with an O……….pretty sure he just means Colorado, oh well hopefully we get this big fish to bite!!!!!
Lion King??
Taco Charlton?
D.J. Howard?
ST must be getting a hell of a kick watching all the comments today haha. =P
There is no way to guess it in my mind
Taco Charlton? With a name like that I would welcome him to the team regardless of where he is from.
Tackling Taco!
Mystery QB does indeed have a familiar name.
But he’s not going to make it. Problems with the transfer.
So you can release the Mystery QB’s name now that we know we not getting him?
Moniz wasn’t gonna play anywa
Jeezy,
Could you at least give a little hint?
70. LOL!!!
69. I actually think ST gave away too many hints… I figure he’s going to tell everyone by the end of the day or he wouldn’t have gave away so much info..
The QB is Moniz tho…. Just Another Guy as what they call it.
Jeezy,
Is the DE from Hawaii at least?
Great Morning All!
Mysterious, indeed!
Getting hun-gree…
#70
I wish that was true, Aloha coach!
75. 0 Hawaii ties
In other news, looks like Fehoko just got a Alabama offer….
#74,
That wasn’t me.
keep it up guys and we will surely exceed 100 for today!
DE must have been a 2012 high school graduate, grayshirted in 2012, participated in 2013 spring ball, and now wants to transfer. After sitting out 2013, he will have 4 years to play 4 years (no redshirt left after 2013).
Gavin Petersen to UOP – don’t know if this was posted.
The University of Hawaii has begun advertising for an assistant women’s basketball coach to replace Gavin Petersen, who is expected to be named an assistant at the University of Pacific.
UH head coach Laura Beeman said she was contacted by UOP and gave permission for the Tigers to talk to Petersen and that he said he has accepted a position there.
Petersen, a University High graduate, was in his second stint as an assistant at UH.
Petersen served as the Rainbow Wahine basketball team manager for three seasons before becoming an assistant for the 2002-03 and 2003-04 seasons. He returned to UH in 2011-’12 after seven seasons as an assistant at Idaho.
“I’m happy for Gavin and his family having this opportunity,” Beeman said. “We’re ending on wonderful terms and I have all the support for him.”
And not from HI if he is flying in with grandma. Give me five weeks to compare all the spring and current rosters of every BCS school that is not Colorado to figure this out.
84… 5 weeks? lol classic
Well my brain is tired and I want to sleep
Keeping up with the mystery DE posts is all I need
Flapping and flying my wings across the sea
Can this really be true; it’s Harry Potter?
Professor, Professor I need your help
If I write your answers I get an A
I write my answers and I fail your course
Is this justification to compromise my principle?
jeezy
would he be a 2012 grayshirt or a 2013 early enrollee?
Naim Mustafaa
Se’von Pittman changed his mind about going to Akron and now wants to visit Hawaii?
im flattered by the impersonations…
whomever this DE is, hope he likes Hawaii and makes the commitment
of course, the coaches and/or players will have the greatest imput
ST: did you say that the fall camp roster is not set as of today allowing for late “additions”
I believe ST wants us to hit over 100 posts before he provides the identify of the mystery DE – nothing wrong with that as I get to view all the different possibilities – some very familiar names from past posts
#89
He practiced for a BCS school this season spring
Robert Nkemdichie ROFL
#92 A-House
If the Spammer comes, we will go over 100 posts – before ST erases them.
A-House:
Fall roster is not set.
Almost all of the spots are taken
Again, UH needs to resolve the Brian Hittner situation. There’a domino effect with that one.
tom:
ST is fast, but cannot keep up with the spammer(s)!
Did I mention Tepa should be good to go.
ST:
hope Hittner’s domino effect will not adversely affect the program – if he is a no show, then it will open the door for another
let’s make it unhundred
UH is allowed up to 105, but it wants to keep an even number — 104 — for roommate purposes at Pearl Harbor.
Then again, a couple of years ago, the specialists went three to a row on a road trip. Then again, Kenton Chun didn’t take up much room.
ST:
Tepa should be good to go – meaning there is an outside, small chance he will not be good to go?
me like garans ball barrans!
Hittner’s situation won’t impact the fall roster.
But it will impact whether a couple of players will participate in training camp or have to wait until Aug. 26.
So nice to see a spam-free blog to start my lunch. ST gonna get carpal tunnel…
Mahalo, ST!
So my daughter calls. She is making tiedye clothes again. She asks if I want a special shirt done in green again. I know her specialty is rainbow kine. I said GO FOR THE RAINBOWS!!! Sweet.
ST:
#101 – can they allow someone to “drive-in” to keep a 105 man roster?
Gee, more than a 100 posts and not one person compliments Tuipulotu’s new physique?
Hurtful. Very hurtful.
Kaniela- why buss up yoself or odda guys… … football field or octagon… why not golf? 😉
Nahnahnah… good luck to you.
DE Originally committed to Alabama ?
Don’t even know what his old physique looks like.
I think if Fehoko received an offer from Alabama, he should accept it right now.
Call off the whole recruiting process.
He’s not going to get a better offer.
I loved my four days in Alabama. Really nice people. Really good food.
What’s Nick Saban’s number? We’ll accept it for him.
Just realized I cannot go to the USC game on the 29th. I teach a night course at UH, and the first night of instruction is the 29th! AAARGH!
Cough, cough.
What’s that, NotNasti?
You’re coming down with a cold?
This will be the first opening game I will miss. I had attended 34 home openers in a row. I’m not coming down with a cold. I really sick right now (if you know what I mean).
I’m really sick (not “I really sick”). Excuse the Kaua’i pidgin.
I agree w/ 37. kobi427…..
DE from WSU Ekuale would be nice. Visited Hawaii 2013- committed. Recruited late by Samuela of WSC, while Hawaii line Coach visited mother in Samoa. Ekuale changed commitment to WSC and enrolled, and probably played in spring ball. Then if he questions himself, bring in g-ma to solidify the deal, go get’um coach! If it is Ekuale, we would pickup a solid d-line addition.
We’ll write you a note.
I’ve been feeling a little under the weather, too.
I think I’ve got .. football fever.
I usually get in the mood by watching a football-related DVD every day.
I usually start off with “The Waterboy.”
But Grownups 2 was such a lemon, I might need a break from Adam Sandler for a bit.
#115,
ST said its a good BCS school and while I like Leach, I don’t think WSU is quite at the level of good yet after the Paul Wulff years haha.
Utah’s and the Pac-12’s globalization plan:

old school dave,
please forward to Ben Jay =p. still waiting for an email reply regarding the Osaka Warrior Bowl game.
Is CBS Sports Network a different channel than the actual CBS station?
*burp*
😳
CSN is a cable station
Dunno bout the mystery DE but got some guud scuups about anoddah DE at LunChauWah…Ho Ho!
UH should contact former Kamehameha HC and Rainbow Warrior David Stant about setting up a game in Japan. Stant, who is the HC at Keio University, must have some contact there after previously coaching there for over 10 years. At least they do play American Football (as it’s called) in Japan at the high school and college level, as well as at the semi-pro/company level. Seattle Seahawks assistant Rocky Seto might be another contact, as he has conducted coaching and instructional camps in Japan (believe he may also be fluent in the language).
Thom Kaumeyer – Japan connection.
” From 1995-96 he served as head coach and oversaw football operations for Onward Kashiyama, Ltd. in Tokyo, Japan. The club advanced to the Tokyo Super Bowl in 1996. “
Jim Donovan made mentions to working out a PAC10 v. Hawaii exhibition game there. It’s either dead in the water or in the planning stages and super secret.
That’s a long plane ride for a mainland team.
OSD,
No idea how much progress Japan U’s have made in the past decade but Kansai U. came over for a game against St. Louis School in 1999 or 2000.
It wasn’t even close…
But Grownups 2 was such a lemon, I might need a break from Adam Sandler for a bit.
ST, I guess “The Longest Yard” is out of the question.
That school could’ve been Washington State or Iowa State. Don’t let that BCS get you all hyped! There’s a story if you read in between the lines.
BTW- does everyone get only 2 tickets for this weekend’s celebration at Aloha Stadium if you’re a season ticket holder?
.
Is it only me or is the font and format of this blog different today? Am I in the twilight zone???
Eddie vanderdoes was not released from his signed loi w/nd. He will lose a yr a have 4 to play 3.
http://tracking.si.com/2013/06/04/eddie-vanderdoes-ucla-notre-dame-football/
The UH Letterwinners Club is sponsoring a golf tournament the Friday preceding the UH vs UNLV game. Tourney is to be played at the Desert Pines course on Friday and is coordinated here in Hawaii by Ed Guyagas (UH Track and Field) and in Las Vegas by Billie Olds (UH Basketball).
Contact Ed Guyagas to get on the players list (before open to the ‘general’ public) at gobows@hawaii.rr.com There will be 144 players only.
H-mail and other forms of communication is soon to come out of UH detailing the California Hotel’s tailgate, transportation to/from game, and ticket options. I will put the information into a blog reply as it is sent to me.
Las Vegas Part 2
The California Hotel and Casino is providing a no host reception on the Friday night preceding the UNLV game. The Ohana room will be open and activities are in the planning stages. There is no cover or charge for the reception. A no host bar and pupu spread will be available.
WTH. Is there a full moon today? All the nut jobs are out.
I think UH should focus on setting up games in Hawaii first.
Maybe UH should seek research dollars globally.
According to the tracker, we’ve had 1.2 millon comments in the past five years.
Where’s Garret?
…but it was 6 years ago that we really went nutz and the Tsai-kos formed. Where’s that stat? 🙄
BTW, next week or so will be the 7th Anniversary of the Warrior Beat Blog!
ST– what day was the official start date in July?
