Sometimes, it’s not just about football. Agree, that this is a great and memorable educational experience for the players. Stay warm and stay loose. GO WARRIORS!!

  11. Former UH Athlete November 8, 2013 6:29 am

Glad to see the boys are enjoying themselves. Soak up the scenery and history while you’re there.

Do your walk-through, eat well, do some extra film work, review game plans and get some sleep. Jet lag is horrendous from Hawaii to east coast. Just have to force yourself to sleep at the local bed time. Otherwise, you’re up until 3am or later and your mind is racing, then you’re mentally drained the next day.

  12. Slugger November 8, 2013 6:38 am

    Good morning, gang!

Hope the tour inspired the team. Lots of history there in DC.

Well, I’m out the door for now…

Sent an email to UH hoping they can point me in the right direction to obtaining a table skirt/banner for Rainbow Cliff, to use at the various college fairs he volunteers at. I know, from attending UH’s New Student Orientation activities, that they make signs for every office, department, club, etc., so I’m hoping they can come up with an official banner for use during this important mainland recruiting effort of high school students (and their parents and teachers).

We’ll see how long they take to respond, and what they say. Hope it’s good news!

    Have a great day, everyone!

  24. Wes'side Warrior November 8, 2013 8:19 am

Aloha all–good to see the young men enjoy themselves. On a side note, my ohana, uncle on my mom’s side, Joseph Ha’o was the first resident of Hawaii and kanaka maoli, to die in Vietnam, and if I am not mistaken, he was the 16th person overall, on a official duty to lose his life. Here is to our boys and my uncle…..malama pono!

As it is the advent of Veteran’s day, and as we support all things deriving from the state of Hawai’i, my mom’s brother, my uncle was the local version of Basil Plumley. Sargent Major Plumley is the rarest of military men serving in WWII, Korea and Vietnam, he was then the character of Mel Gibson’s, “We Were Soliders” movie in 2002. Only a very small handful people came make that claim.Well, my uncle did the same thing, 3 wars, and came out in tact. If I am not mistaken, he the only person from Hawai’i to hold such a honor.

In fact, my mom tells the story that they did a novena for him every night that he was in Korea, and that the 2nd to the last night he was in a combat area, and he got shot twice in the helmet, but escaped only minor injuries. He also for a time, held the highest marksman award in the US army–expert. Upon his death, we found dozens of shoe boxes of marksman awards/medals from over the years–he had never told anyone but his wife. Uncle–malama pono!!

  46. jimmy the lock November 8, 2013 3:24 pm

It was a very foggy night at sea.
The skipper of a battleship saw the lights of another vessel approaching directly ahead.
He ordered his Signalman to send the following message on flashing light:
    “Turn 10 degrees port.”

A flashing message came back through the fog:
    “You turn 10 degrees starboard.”

Perturbed, the skipper sent his Signalman back out to send the following message:
“You turn 10 degrees port. I’m a Captain.”

A flashing message came back through the fog:
“You turn 10 degrees starboard. I’m a Seaman.”

Now the skipper was really furious. A Seaman will not talk to a Captain that way. He ordered his Signalman back out to send the following message:
“You turn 10 degrees port. I’m a battleship.”

A flashing message came back through the fog:
“You turn 10 degrees starboard. I’m a lighthouse.”

    Hi, tommui!

Tell Richard at Maple Garden I said Hi! Only one decent Chinese restaurant in town here. I’m glad I ate at Yen King/Maple Garden as often as I could before I left. I remember the first time I saw you, though, was at Happy Day. You were lunching with a judge…IIRC.

Watching the CBSSports channel…USC vs Utah State basketball in Logan. USU has a player (#14 – Moore) who has hair that rivals Fotu’s.

Had to get the cable Sports Package to watch tomorrow’s game. Nice thing is that it’s only $8.75 per month for the package.

Still have to fiddle around with the cable box, my TV & DVD recorder to save the games. Thanks for your help in the past, oldie!

    A-House!

I’ll get to see the UH WBB team play NAU on Sunday! If I can get my recorder working, I can send you a copy of the game. It’s supposed to be broadcast, maybe on the NAU cable channel or one of the AZ sports channels. [Don’t know if the ASU-UH WBB game is being televised.]

    GO WARRIORS!!!
    GO WAHINE!!!

  52. NorthShoreFan November 8, 2013 5:43 pm

    softbows crushing chaminade 11-2…

  54. oneseason November 8, 2013 6:12 pm

I hope the Rainbow Warriors beat Navy tomorrow, and I have no doubt that the players and coaches will do their best. As head coach, the “seniorist” of all, and certainly the highest paid, Coach Chow should have said something like ‘Everybody needs to step up their game, ESPECIALLY myself.’

“In the aftermath of the Rainbow Warriors’ 47-10 loss to Utah State last Saturday, coach Norm Chow told the team: “Everybody needs to step up their game, even myself.”

On Wednesday, Chow said: “When I made that statement, I challenged everybody — coaches, seniors, players and myself. None of us felt good about what happened last Saturday. We’re all to blame. We need to accept that responsibility and get this leadership going. Everybody has to step up and do it.””

gobows…Beeg Mahalo fo dat….watching some b-ball now…looks good so far…I like the 2013-14 edition. looks like good athletes on the team.

  59. Inyoface November 8, 2013 7:03 pm

The only reason Navy gives Norte dame trouble is because they both look like the exact same team on the field.

  60. NorthShoreFan November 8, 2013 7:17 pm

Mariota, 0 interceptions after 9 games?….Not sure if this has ever happened….

  61. 3-Prong November 8, 2013 7:46 pm

Sure don’t miss Vander holding the ball in the post. So far so good with the guard oriented look.

  62. NorthShoreFan November 8, 2013 8:03 pm

David at the point?!?!!!…nice fast break and assist!

  63. Wes'side Warrior November 8, 2013 9:14 pm

    Going sleep already.

Waited all day for someone to mention something about ST’s “DC United” title… but I guess no one caught on, or something…

Anywayz, geev ‘um, Warriorz! Hopefully, we’ll be back to catch the second half of the game. One of my daughters has a Veteran’s Day type of event to work at… over at Kapolei High. She has to be there from 7am until…?

  66. A-joe November 9, 2013 5:00 am

Despite the struggles and what seems to be insurmountable challenges UH is up against, all the frustrations we battle each and every week, its humbling to see each and every one of you continue to post here. Many of you still find positive words of encouragement and still believe the tide will soon challenge. This shows me we all are true fans of UH.

How do I know? For one, we would not be here reading and posting if we have some level of affection for UH. Especially in a time like this. We may have different ways and varying degrees of expressing our commitment to UH. But the bottom line is we return to read and post. That, in itself, speaks volumes to me.

I’m not sure if you realize it but we’re a unique group of fans. 5, 10, or even 20 years from now when Hawai’i is successful and going through some trying times again, you’ll have the inner strength to weather the storm because of what you’re going through now. Unlike those who boast their claims of commitment to UH during the “VonAppen years” you’ll have actual proof, right here in this blog, that you stood by committed to the program during it’s most trying times and survived.

The glory days will come. I promise you, those days will be sweet!

I’m proud of each and every one of you who post here. Even those who lurk. Continue your support for UH, but most importantly, to each other.

    I Mua Rainbow Warriors!!

  67. fshnpoi November 9, 2013 5:31 am

  68. Maddog50 November 9, 2013 5:33 am

    Second that my brother

  69. Slugger November 9, 2013 6:07 am

    Hi, A-Joe!

Good pep talk for the fans. One just has to support the team because of the student-athletes. As someone once said, It’s not winning or losing, it’s how you play the game (paraphrasing it). It’s a college team. The students play because they love the game. We follow the team & attend the games because we like to watch football, get excited when we win, and for some we have some affection for the student-athletes.

So, to my “nephews” on the team: I Mua Na Koa!!! GO WARRIORS!!! I’ll be rooting for you from across the continent.

    GO RAINBOW WARRIORS!!!

  70. Slugger November 9, 2013 6:09 am
