Happy Birthday to Esme and to BHF2!
Are the video chats held on campus? I’ll be there today. You should do a studio audience thing for the show like they do for TV comedy shows. I promise I’ll keep the heckling down to a mimimum…
Food for thought.
Geo. Stephanopoulus just finished an interview with John McCain on twitter.
Imagine if the Warrior Beat hour turned into the next Leno or Letterman show? Can Stephen do stand-up? Bet people would line up to get in.
bighilofan2 – dang – happy birthday
happy bday to bghf2 and “aunty” esme!
BHF2 n Esme? Same day?
What are the chances!
Eh, get plenny of cake to go around. Share you two, k?

Back to the business of UH athletics. The article by Ferd describing the sad state of the UH Wahine Volleyball program is not good. I’m quite certain that men’s volleyball will also show a declining stream.
Somehow pointing the finger at any one sport is not the answer and its about time that ALL of the folks sit and find common solutions or there will only be losers in the aftermath of people taking a “protectionist” view of the situation.
Jill and her folks who fight for equity, and rightfully so, should get with the “other side” and start looking at this as a whole and not as each possessing sacred grounds. When things start to unravel as dollars start shrinking and moving elsewhere, no one is going to discriminate as the house collapses.
This mess is everyone’s problem, everyone. There needs to be more sunlight on matters such as why the UH has to pay for things at the stadium when other State agencies don’t, or why they cannot share in the revenue. Everyone should look at the fine print and see if that makes sense. Why is the UH one of the only WAC schools where student fees for things like athletics is not a part of the tutuion/ Does the UH student senate vote carry that much weight? How is that so? Can’t the Stanley, an athletic facility, be used to host other revenue generating events for the athletic department? Are there specific reasons for its dormancy during non-athletic events?
I do believe that watching a train wreck about to happen is not going to cause it not to happen. Being in the front row to simply observe the carnage doesn’t make the wreck any easier to accept, especially if something could have been collective done to avert such an occurance.

The Band Champ Finale will be held this Saturday in Honolulu at the Pipeline Cafe. My youngest son – aka “Ukuleleboi” (even though he is purely a vocalist this time) is a member of 2nd Nature, the finalist from Kauai.
The Finale will be recorded by KHON from 2-4 pm with a live audience. I am coming to Oahu for the taping and would love to see all our blog fans in the audience too! I can get free tickets for you- just add a comment on my blog (click on my name) with the number of tickets you need and we can hook up on Saturday.

the article today is in regards to women’s basketball. the women’s volleyball program still ran in the black this past year.
women’s sports are pretty much in safe haven as long as we have football and other men’s sports. the gender equity stuff allows them to have a program inspite of its losses.

Greetings Coach Coolen!
I was just wondering:
With pitching being the primary engine that pulls the train…
(1) How do you feel your ‘young’ pitching staff is doing at this point of the season?(…please feel free to elaborate).
…and…if I can ask one more question…
(2) Do you do your own recruiting, or is there a network of scouts who help you find the best available pitchers.
Thank you Coach Coolen for your contribution to UH Sports. You continue to do a great job of administering a winning program.
d1 who’s Erin and wat bra?
wow, too bad Bolla didn’t get the Superferry as a Wahine Basketball program sponsor. It would kinda match, since both Superferry and womens’ basketball are kind of sunken right now. ha ha!
Erin and bra? No wonder why O’d1 is happy…or is that a shillelagh in his pocket?
O’homey,
Always happy to see you!
heheheh
ohomey
i am actually in your neighborhood on a pit stop.
in wahiawa i go to that place next to that saimin place.
sorabol? sun du bu or the kalbi is really good. then there’s this rice pot dish….
later
If any young kids post today, please do not use the Irish version of “Tot”
Coach Coolen,
During several games in the past two tournaments the Wahine seemed to struggle at bat.
Heading into WAC play how much of this concerns you or were the problems at the plate simply attributed to good pitching by the opposing teams?
how do we watch past week’s episodes of the Tsai/Wai show?
chawan – I suppose you sit in front of a computer screen to watch it.
What is that rice pot dish called?
To LTUHF,
It was the first day of the year of 2008 and I still to this day remember one of your post, for mixed in with other poster’s wishing New Year cheer, cheering the Warriors on against Georgia and even some (why…on this day?) stirring more unflattering things about HF–was your story of about how “God works in mysterious ways”. Amongst all the hysteria for the New Year, enthusiasm for the big game and unneeded HF talk was your story. And I’ll never forget it, and have since told it to a few others for it was deep loving story about how a couple that were separated not from their choosing, but were miraculously united after many, many years… the story goes something like this where the husband by happenstance stopping by the church and noticing a tapestry on the wall he thought looked similar to one that his wife may have made. And that was the connection to locating the wife. The pieces of the puzzle were put together by the priest, which for him, no doubt, was a rewarding experience. And from my prospective it was rewarding to read this story for in a way it enriches one to think that hope and faith are entwined.
Why I’m writing today is that I read where your health is not doing too well–and I pray fully hope things turn around for you– is that so many times when I reflect back on posts and posters that I’ve read sometimes I wish I were more acknowledging of what others write but I don’t often regretfully do. It’s something I have to work on, I know. But your post on the first day of 2008 about the aforementioned miracle I’ll never forget and though it is a little late in saying, I truly enjoyed reading that post. Best wishes to you and uyor family.
Coach Coolen,
How does the WAC look this year and how do you perceive your chances of another WAC title and a bid to the NCAA tournament with a young starting pitcher in Ricketts?
good question Kazz! Coolen has made changes in the outfield, firstbase and shortstop to date to improve the wahine hitting and defense…hopefully they can pick it up a notch as WAC play begins…
happy birthday Esme and Bighilo…happy St. Patrick’s day to you
Big Hilo Fan ~
I know your taste for *Sultry* singahs of the female gender. That’s why I wanted the lovely Ms Mariah Carey to sing “Happy Bertday” to you. She puts a little ‘booty’ shimmy in it designed to lift your spirits!…it worked for Muhammad Ali!!

LTUHF:
While we are concerned hearing our your most recent encounters with COPD, the A-House family wishes you the very best and speedy return to your “old self” that we saw at the Richardson Field tailgates and craft fairs on the Windward side.
Happy Birthday to Esme and BHF2.
Al-san and Homey-san –
Signed off too soon yesterday. Thanks for the props yesterday. You’ve made a senior citizen very happy.
LTUHF –
Just read about your COPD. Personal best wishes and prayers for good progress each day toward full recovery.
WOW
HAPPY BIRTHDAYS to 2 of our Tsupah Tsaikos!!!
I guess being born on St Paddy’s Day explains their “magical” personalities!!!
Holy moley Andy, that makes me a “senior citizen” too
Holy moley Andy, that makes me a “senior citizen” too!!!
Long Time UH Fan ~
Pulling hard for your ‘comeback!’ Look forward to seeing you at our next t-gate.
I have no idea how I did that!!!!!! Bad habit of pressing any kine buttons or keys or whatevea.
Coach Coolen,
Two part question:
What does the immediate future (next 5 years) look like for the Wahine Softball program in light of the economic situation and the deficit facing the entire UH athletic department?
We have seen and heard about the sacrifices other programs have had to make. Do you see some sort of “leveling off” in terms of whatever shortcomings the softball program already has or do you see more of your budget being effected with each passing year in which our economy continues to suffer?
LTUHF- prayers for your well-being and contentment. ((((HUGS)))) !!!
LTUHF
Just want to let you know that your WB Ohana misses a lot when you’re not here blogging. I hope our prayers can help you along the road to getting better.
Awww, Tsaikos, you folks are always so very kind to me. Thank you so much for the birfday wishes!
(But, ST … that is oooone oogly pikchah you chose for me! And also incriminating. xD )
BHF2…. *high five!* Hauoli La Hanau!
HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY! Everybody!
Midori7 was kind enough to remind A-House last evening that today was St. Patrick’s Day, so “don’t forget to wear green.”
So what does A-House do?… he goes straight to his closet, picks out a light tan aloha shirt and tan trousers. When I questioned him about that, he claimed, “there’s a little bit of green in the small print. Besides,” he declares, “nobody would DARE lay fingers (pinch) on my body!..except you, of course, my darling.” (sigh) Behind that tough facade, A-House is really a very lovable person.
Coach Coolen,
It has been two seasons since Tyleen Tausaga has batted for you. As you have stated before, Tausaga was one of a kind. Do you see any of your younger players (i.e. freshman or sophomores) coming close to what Tausaga did for the program?
A-House – You lucky Mrs. A-House goes for older men.
Mrs. A-House – Mr. A-House is lucky you go for older men.
Oh, look, Esme is in the house!
That’s a lot of the word “house”…
Coach Coolen,
My last few questions:
How did the Under Armour deal with the Wahine work out? Was it a result of the deal with the football program? Who approached who and how long is the deal for?
AND most of all, how are your girls liking the new Under Armour gear?
Esme and BigHiloFan2 –
How auspicious that two outstanding Tsaiko Americans share the same birthday with the Patron Saint of Ireland. Best wishes to you both.
Esme, you look lovely in the picture above.
BHF2, the photo does not do you justice. You are one of the many handsome male Tsaikos, and I hope ST will post later a better picture of you and your million dollar smile.
Which picture is which?
Mrs. Kekoa –
You are not forgotten…not even for a minute/day. I pray that your infection is controlled and that each day brings improvement and recovery, albeit slow but steady nonetheless.
Kekoa –
No doubt your constant love, concern and compassion provides your dearest with what is the most important remedy toward complete recovery. Bless you both.
O’Homey-san –
You chose your words very well. Mahalo! You, my buddy, are another of the “other” male Tsaikos I consider very handsome…in a smaller, darker tan package…but handsome nonetheless. π
O’homey,
you o’wise one.
i do not see an option to view old chats
am i not as o’wise as you?
HB to Esme & BHF2
On the mend to FlaTed & LTUHF.
Special prayers out to Sonya who is still in serious condition at Straub.
BG ~ Heading out to the Cabana’s right now to check on the season opener availability. Does anyone know for sure if that is the correct date on the schedule? 09/04/09 is a Friday. Makes it a tough t-gate time for the worker bees.
Hi Esme. ST chose a good one.. nice and tame unless he uncrops the rest of the pix… π let’s see:
1) karaoke mic
2) Official Bulla’s Bomber shirt
3) …and the Tsai-ko shirt under the Bomber shirt.
Nope, nothing wrong with that pix… π
Coach Coolen,
Trap and his coaches wear baseball uniforms during games. How come you or the other women fastpitch head coaches wear uniforms like the men?
I just got off the phone with the UNLV ticket guru. As a special favor, he may release our Tsaiko block of tickets in early June, prior to single game seats made available to the public. He said no problem getting us into the stadium. I asked about sitting near the Boyd block and he indicated he’s not sure where anyone will be since they are trying to get their season ticket sales taken care of first.
If anyone has objections to the $35 sideline tickets vs. $25 endzone, please let me know. (Email me at rich2176 at yahoo.) I’m sorry I can’t get the same $8 group discount like last time. The game will probably be a sellout again and I don’t blame them for trying to maximize their revenue. BUT, I will still try and get some kind of deal. The good thing is that there won’t be a handling fee since I’ll pick up the tickets again at UNLV. (Now, if someone wants to pay for my airfare….LOL)
PLEASE email me regarding requests, your contact info, etc. I just don’t have the time these days to read the blog on a daily basis and wouldn’t want to miss someone’s request.
Kekoa – I think the game is a Friday.
The Warrior Beat Show set is slowing evolving into tinytv.com set. Starts off with bobble heads – then sponsors placards will start taking over.
Great stuff! Keep up the good work
O’homey,
The Butterfish Stew (ask for mild, unless you like really spicy food). Trust me, you’ll be going back to that place just for that.
Mrs. ahouse,
My husband showed me the note you posted. Thank you and all the other friends for your kind remarks. My wounds are healing very slowly, and I try keep infection under control. The new meds didn’t work as good as the old. Waste time. Old Hawaiian medicines worked best.
Too bad we couldn’t make it to your side Sat. We wanted to come out and enjoy the mexican dinner with midori, and watch Homey sandbag at bowling. He so rascal! He must be the son you wish you had…NOT!
Heehee!
Mahalo,
Diana
Great Scot! π―
Hi Diana!
Sorry to hear the humbug! continues…. π
Kekoa,
I hope that is a typo about the Sept 4th date for the Central Arkansas game.
Can’t be true. Labor Day is Sept 7th.
Gotta gotta GOTTA be an error. If not, I want a discount on my 2009 season ticket renewal.
Howzit onarock!
Been a while since you posted. Hope you doing good.
…perhaps an anti-histamine prior to showtime?
….who gave the Princess the tiara? C_C?
Homes ~ Thanks, I wanted to make sure it was a Friday. Everybody will have to leave work early, what a sacrifice!
Congrats 4UHfan(?), Kazz and al!
Winnah, winnah, chicken dinnah!
Happy Birthday Esme and bighilofan2!
wishing a faster ‘top shape’ to FlaTed, LTUHF, Sonya, and Diana.
O’d1,
Howzit! Pretty much forced into lurker mode these days, but always fun to drop by to escape, be informed, be inspired, and share a few laughs. Keep on keeping on as you are one of the posters I try not to miss when I go into Turbo Lurk mode.
K’den, back to the grind!
Wow, first itme that I was able to get the audio and visual without any hitches – excellent work by the camera crew, St, Princess Leila, and all involved with this new venture.
Did ST say uhfan? which one?
Kazz,
Hmmmm…nevah notice that either.
But yep, checked and double-checked….it’s even listed on UCA website as a Friday game…which, btw lists their complete ’09 schedule πΏ
Kekoa:
Why would UH schedule a game with Central Arkansas on a Friday (9/4/09)?
Just don’t make sense! Also, are we not planning for a tailgate on Saturday, 9/5/09?
But, then again, let’s get the season started!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pomai, are we still at 12-2 or 13-1 record?
A-house,
It was 4UHFAN; not your adopted daughter π
(unless dat was somebody entering for her ???)
Hey ST, where is the green?
onarock,
Will do! (ooooh…get presha now π )
Should we bet the island on a Central Arkansas schedule that game is on 9/4/09 – perhaps their SID no can see the correk date??? I thinkie they make BIG mistake?
Hope not too many or their boosters are planning their trip for a Friday game but, on the other hand, they will be here before Friday so why worry?
duffer,
That sounds kinda funny coming from you! π
A-house,
Maybe the UCA Bears wanted an extra day to shop at the swap meet?
NauPauLunChauWah…..
From espn.com:
MILWAUKEE — It might be the next big thing in online social networking, but Milwaukee Bucks coach Scott Skiles isn’t a big fan of Twitter.
At least not when one of his players is posting from the Bucks’ locker room during halftime of a critical game.
Bucks forward Charlie Villanueva got a talking-to from Skiles after the coach learned Villanueva posted a message to his Twitter feed — a “tweet” — from his mobile phone during halftime of Sunday’s home victory over the Boston Celtics.
“We made a point to Charlie and the team that it’s nothing we ever want to happen again,” Skiles said after practice Tuesday. “You know, [we] don’t want to blow it out of proportion. But anything that gives the impression that we’re not serious and focused at all times is not the correct way we want to go about our business.”
onarock – Thanks! Got that noted and stowed away till Friday!
Happy birthday Nanay Esme! Please don’t celebrate too hard — I fear the return of the traffic cones …
And happy birthday bighilofan2! If addahknowjoe is the King of Kaū, you’re the Head Honcho of Hilo! π
Ferd says:
C.Arkansas wanted extra time to prepare for the following week’s road game.
Because it’s a I-AA, and everyone wants one of those to open against, C.Ark had leverage.
(stopped on the way out the door)
So UCA is more concerned about a road trip to Bowling Green to play W. Ky. than coming here to play UH? π
O’d1,
i was not the lame one this time who gave THE Princess her tiara.
o’c_c
Mrs. Kekoa (aka Diana) – Sandbag? ST, JaM, Brie, Jamie (sp? JaM’s other daughter), A-Joe, Rob25, midori7, UHfan808, Brie’s friend, and the little boy on the other lane all kicked my butt!!! I was picked on all night! They made ball jokes at me, compared me with these little white chocolate bb sized candy, talked to me as I was walking down the alley, stuffed my ball holes with toilet paper…no respect I tell you, story of my life!
So you get healthy now because only you and Mrs. A-House talks nicely to me.
To bh2,
On this your Birthday, I not only want to pay tribute, like so many others have…but I truly thank you for injecting a lot of enthusiasm for the Warriors and other sport’s teams at UH on this blog. Reading how vociferous you are about the programs in your writings, yet almost to a point of you’re seemingly willing the team on so that the players and coaches produce at the highest level (again in your writings) is bond that all UH fans share….I know surely I surely do…But you (…and Kazz being another good one) more so than others are leading the way…and for this I’m appreciative for your spirited love for the Warriors. Again, much complimentary best wishes on your Birthday. And I look forward (as i know you do) to the upcoming Spring Ball, Fall Camp and season.
To esme,
The catch phrase-“whooosh” we get from you, but more than that I enjoy briefly reading a few discussions on your blog. And along with others, I, too, send complimentary Birthday wishes on your special day and wish you continued success with your blog.
To curveball,
Often times I think of you, and can relate to what your going through. By now, wise fully, the best you can do (as others have told me at one time, too) is forge ahead…and in doing so I wish good things come to you. Best wishes to you and your family.
To FloridaTed,
Ditto to what I said to curveball. Also, I’ve been remiss in not acknowledging some of the wonderful posts and imparted wisdom you have a penchant for writing…and I want to take this time to thank you. In my book what separated you from the others is that seemingly you looked at every issues with unbiased views–sometimes you disagreed and agreed with me and for this I have a deep respect for you. Best wishes, Ted. Your wife wrote beautifully in your absences, and she relayed a lot of hope, which is very touching to read.
o’homey,
i understand your pain.
o’story of my o’life o’too.
o’chawan – You must have more pain than I do.
Oh my gawd…. A friday home opener for football…
Aloha,
Florida Patti here.
FloridaTed finally showed me how to get on the blog and I wanted to share a little story that I have been thinking about.
There was a neighbor in our building, elderly and sickly. One day she passed away and the family came and took care of her affairs (apartment, etc ). One day I noticed that she had several plants in her tiny garden out front. Days passed and no one was tending to her garden. I took it upon myself to pick up one plant, in a pot. Altho it was dying, I knew I could bring it back to life. I have been called the “plant lady” more than once.
To make a long story short (Ted would say, “too late”) I gave the plant water and notice some improvement. The next day I put it out in the sun, watered it again. The plant looked so amazing and I was happy to bring it back alive. Yesterday I noticed my plant was dying. While Ted was in the hospital, I neglected to give it water or put it in the sun.
I had some very lonely times while my darling Ted was in the hospital. I have to tell you all that each morning I would check his e-mails and again when I came home from the hospital. I looked forward to the comments and words of encourgement…it was like I was the plant that needed the water and the sun and lots of care. Each and everyone of you gave me that.
Today I cut off all the bad leaves on my plant, gave it some water and put it in the sun. I look forward to my plant coming back to life, as will my Ted and I will be right beside him.
Just wanted to share this with you all and tell you words can not express the love you expressed in your e-mails.
Ted is doing well and hopefully, will be back on the blog again.
With love,
Florida Patti
Kazz & BG ~
The deed is done. We have Cabana ‘A’ reserved for Friday, 09/04/09. Start thinking of an excuse to play hooky!
Be There!…Aloha.
o’homey,
i tend to rely on my short term memory for things like that.
who are you again btw??
Roysan…re #128
Good stuff my man….thanks for posting that!!!
Kekoa
Thanks for taking care of the cabana business…it really is a hard choice between Warrior FB and work…NOT
Aloha Florida Patti!!!!
Some days while we give to others we forget to tend to ourselves. But therein lays the beauty, for all around us are there are others who care to nourish us.
It’s no big deal that many of us may never meet in person because we have already touched each other beyond the physical.
Take care, and don’t let FT get too comfy. And when he’s well and able, take that bell away from him! π
Kekoa – But what time is the game?
I see wee hahve ah Scottish mahn ahmungst us laddee’s.
Love You Florida Patti! Take care! Your healing touch is what Ted needed.
Aloha!
Princess Leila – Happy belated girl’s day…nice tiara.
so o’homey,
what’s the secret to watching past tsai/wai episodes?
i was in reno last week and missed coach mack’s show with them.
an a fine day to ya lads an lasses…
Kekoa,
The only way can play hooky here is for someone to come to my office with a ski mask and a tire iron and club me in the leg.
Any volunteers?
o’chawan – go to the show and if you notice on the bottom of the video there is an “on demand” button…I suppose you can figure it from there.
Kazz – Have ralph write you a doctor’s note.
o’homey,
thank you so much.
Dear Kekoa,
You have been with me from the beginning!! Thank you for the kind words….and how is your wife doing?
Happy St. Pat’s Day…will someone have a green beer for me?
Aloha!!!
I’m still bummed that opening game is on a Friday and we had to learn this from UCA schedule.
It’s disappointing the the UH SID did not publish this as I will presume that they have known for a long time that the game was to be played on a Friday!!! For me, I have not been impressed with the performance of UH’s SID going back as far as Jason Elam days when some one failed to get the “press releases” out to the mainland on how good Jason was and therefore had a “hand” in he not getting all the well deserved recognition.
Are there any “STRATEGIC” planners or thinkers in the lower campus – shades of the Fumbler and you know how much I love that person – YUK!!!
A-House – It’s also on the UH Athletics football site.
Florida Patti I am glad you are in good spirits and your messages are most welcomed….your positive outlook will carry you through this ordeal and soon our Florida Ted we’ll be like a spanking new baby ready for your lessons in life, learning to read, write, and speak and move about…be patient and all will be well again….
A House the friday schedule was announced when JD announced the signing of central arkansas….it was their request and JD accommodated and mac was ok with it….it sucks for us, and HS football will conflict- I am sure Amemiya is thrilled that UH is competing on Friday nights, especially since the game is not an ESPN promo…
playing c. arkansas is bad enough, but to play them on Friday is senseless for a program in need of revenue…C. arkansas is happy because they got the game that pays them cash, airline tickets, hotel, and ground transportation and an opportunity for their players to be in Hawaii.
I’ll probably go to the game anyway…
Ralph – Can you write Kazz a note excusing him from work?
How lucky we would all be if we had a Florida Patti to take care of us. I got more of a Peppermint Patti – you know, she taste good, but she’s a little spicy and sometimes, you get a little heartburn. Florida Ted is one lucky guy.
Florida Patti
After going through the worst time in my life I can tell you that the support and Prayer from this “bunch of Tsiko’s” is extremely comforting and helpful. Now that you are with us always stay in touch and know that there are many people who are thinking about you and Ted.
easy to write a note for kazz, but does First Hawaiian offer sick leave, and will his supervisor really care if he is sick or not and wants him at work regardless of his health issues…=) Kazz may be indispensable to the bank
Yeah, well you’ve obviously never been standing in the food line at a Tsaiko party with gigi and WD on one side and a chocolate cake on the other.
Gotta agree with Ralph that the switch of the Central Arkansas game to Friday was disclosed in the HA awhile back.
WarriorMojo,
ROTFLMAO!
Ralph,
Methinks it’s nbd for the high schools to play on Saturday at Aloha and as far as games at school fields, they play ’em when get UH games on Saturdays sometimes anyways…
FloridaPatti,
Welcome to the WB. Only wish that the circumstances that brought you here were better.
Glad to hear the FloridaTed is doing better.
Keep posting! π
So when does this O’foolishness end and real MacMen start posting again?
Ralph,
We have sick leave but ill probably switch a vacation around.
so on our first game of the year there is that possibility that there will be no tailgate for most of us except for retirees and for those who choose to take sick leave. And how many can make an early afternoon game in heavy traffic. it is difficult to get over moanalua freeway between 3:30 and 6 pm and to maneuver into aloha stadium parking lot
It ends when you take the “O” away. You have the power.
Happy Bday Wishes to Esme and BHF…..many more to come.
also a BIG SHOUT OUT to Florida Ted, been off the blog for awhile but i have you in my prayers…..one day at a time, just get better
happy st. patty day to all out there, enjoy the corned beef and cabbage, and all of the dire effects that come with that.
O’d1: Seemed like it was the last cake on earth, LOL.
Capitalized ralph – Some will take vacation. Do you know what time the game is?
maybe I’ll have to go back to buying individual games and pick’um based on level of competition unlike Kazz, CC and Jason who goes regardless of teams coming to town…got to check the home schedule- so which WAC teams coming to town this season
Yo, Bruddah Kazz! You like go O’Tooles tonight fo celebrate, LOCAL style?! Just gotta find Kimo from Waianae.
WM – I heard there were some kind of chicken stick pupu too. Never saw them.
O’homes: Yeah, I heard that rumor too.
Not to bring back bad memories but….
ralph – did you drink alcohol during the t-gates? Do you remember which WAC teams played at Aloha Stadium last season? koakane doesn’t.
Does O’Toole’s do much business when Murph has his block parties?
o’homey,
thanks, when i had checked earlier, i guess they weren’t there due to today’s show being prepped.
see, i’m smart.
o’chawan – I’m sure it was just an oversight on your part. Glad to help a fellow BS major. π
Doesn’t Murphy own O’Toole’s?
WMojo,
If I can find one REAL “Kimo” from Waianae, one Sione from Nanakuli, one Tatupu from Kalihi, one Sioasi from Waipahu, and one Apolosio from Kaawa I would GLADLY stop by O’Fooles for a game of human bowling.
permanent membership…..whoossh club.
Ralph,
Chawan and Jason have me beat. I think the only thing that stands in my way of total UH home game attendance supremacy is my work schedule.
Not bad of a fall sports year though. All home football games, Hawaii Bowl ( πΏ ),11 home Wahine volleyball games (plus two WAC volleyball tourney games), 13 home men’s basketball games (5 more than last year), 2 Wahine basketball games (blame Bolla), 4 Wahine softball games, 6 men’s volleyball games, and all home baseball games so far minus 2 Thursday night games.
So far so goodβ¦
DPK,
I used to think that a long time ago, but there is a stark contrast. Several people told me O’Tooles is owned by the same person or persons as Kelly O’Neal’s in Waikiki.
I think Don Murphy would have blown his lid if he peeked into O’Tooles during an away UH football game.
Besides I think Don Murphy has more class and business sense than to blatantly ignore the “no smoking indoors” rule.
I hope not. I like to think they LEECH off of Don Murphy’s customers.
I had a friend who visited Hawaii and he purchased this very pretty miniature plant from a store in Waikiki and brought it back to the mainland. He set it out on his patio and made sure it would get just enough sunshine, etc. He also watered it regularly with just enough, not too much water. Well he was very pleased with this little plant and was quite proud of his achievement taking care of this plant. After several months he figured he would gently dust off the leaves and as he did so the flower fell off this plant which to his dismay after all this time passed he realized this plant was not real but instead was a synthetic plant and flower. He laughs whenever he thinks about the fact that he watered the fake plant for months without knowing it was a fake plant.
The morale of the story….what do you expect from a guy who grew up in the bronx?
McTruck,
“My fake plantes died because I forgot to pretend to water them.”
-Mitch Hedberg
Kazz…I tell you….for realssssss.
We got just a couple bars in this town and so I figured I’d stop by to see if they were serving green beer today, being St. Pat’s day and all…well wouldn’t you know it, they barely had a clue bout it being St. Pat’s and all….what would you expect in a predominately Southern Baptist hot bed??
whitey’s back! Just saw him @ the airport.

Kekoa,
The only way can play hooky here is for someone to come to my office with a ski mask and a tire iron and club me in the leg.
Any volunteers?

Well now Kazz, my dear laddy, what kind of “sum” would you be wantin’ to pay such a “volunteer” for such a deed? I might, um, shall we say, ahem, know someone…

Gratitude.
Ralph — think we should check out the elevator eligibility requirements this year. As for the charcoaled belly pork… I’ll help keep you anxious….and I won’t tell the secret of your Chef knife…but you gotta split with homey and me… π
One of the things wrong with basketball is the lack of sex appeal to women and men. See Jerry West in the attached:

In days of old, women flocked to BBall to see the stars in their tight uniforms. Imagine if you will the Wahine played basketball playing in the VBall team uniforms. When did BBall uniforms get so baggy? I remember when The Fabulous Five played in those form fitting tropical shorts and tanks. UH should start a trend. Form fitting uniforms from UA
to flatter the human form. It works in the commercials!
This Atlanta reporter wrote about the states that didn’t have a team in the NCAA basketball tournament and went out of his way to slam Hawaii!
Miami is bringing in David Veikune for an interview, which makes sense since they have a big need for a pass rusher at the other outside LB spot. I think that Veikune could bring the heat as a pass rushing LB in their 3-4 D.
This writer wants Chicago to draft Veikune in the 2nd round. I think that the 2nd round would be great for Veikune, so this would be great if it would come true.

Please note Rich2176’s post #97 today. Especially…
While Rich is specifically asking for negative feedback, I’ll throw in my positive feedback ….Rich, two sideline tickets @ $35 are OK with me.
Another excellent episode of the Wai&Tsai show! I like Coach Coolen – and he’s really put together a terrific Wahine Softball Program! It’s really too bad he can’t get more financial and fan support. π
A suggestion for ST – please make sure Wena and/or Princess_L helps you with the attire. You’ve done the print! You’re all over the radio waves! And now you’re into video…. π π― π
Goodness Brew O’Brew-ski! I was just lurking along and all of a sudden I was blindsided by your fireworks. I better lurk a little more carefully.
I’m really having trouble getting my “peeps” spun up (and to make some commitment) for Warrior football in Sept. Any information I give to SteveM, Rich, and las vegas is very speculative…. Heck – I don’t even know my own availability. I may have to fly in late Friday night and leave Sunday morning! But – I WILL BE THERE! π― π π―
π Okay, ol’ ❀ O’Sporty ❀ one! π
Brew-
I’m glad you’ll be there. Be good to see you again.
O’Homey-
Onarock is right. The butterfish stew is good. I tried it because of a recommendation I read on the blog about a month ago. Was it you, Onarock, that made that recommendation? I usually eat the stone pot with the raw ground beef or the salad with raw fish on top. (I don’t know how to spell it)
Brew the attire got to wait, Tsai got a 10% pay reduction this quarter, Wena and the kids are priorities and besides, he dresses like the rest of us tsaikos
garret: re #204: you know where I can get one of those babies?? Not for mosquitos, though….
π Ol’ ❀ O’Sports ❀ …eats “stone” pot?!! π― π π
Colomaohana wants …. “one of those babies”? π― Don’t you already have seven!?! π― π π
Ralph – Actually, ST looked pretty good a couple of weeks ago in his red polo shirt. Last week was okay in the black. Today…. the unbuttoned brown…. π― π π―
On the other hand, Princess looked fabulous – like royalty…. especially with her tiara! And Coach Coolen…. well… it’s hard to go wrong with UH attire! π
brew808 — if you’re going to whoooosh through UNLV in September, stay with us at Hooters (hey, it’s close to the airport π ). We leave early Sunday morning for SFO.
Rich2176,
If you managed to get some shade this time, that would be plenty enough of a deal for me!
Sideline works for me….
Brew-
The stone pot helps me keep my lead foot in shape.
d1ε³Ά — no worries about shade. My calendar shows that Sept. 19 is the day after new moon. Hmmm, that’s why my cruise was so cheap…no romantic moon-lite sea to watch. π
SteveM,
I doubt that the visiting fans would get tix in anything close to shade in Sam Boyd Stadium unless kick-off was well after sunset.
Last time the pre-game was brutal! I’m sure it certainly helped their beer sales!
The result of having all those people pounding beers and then sitting in the the direct sun probably didn’t help the security staff either!

Good news about FLTed, Ted as one of the few east coast Tsai-kos we need you back an strong as ever. GO WARRIORS
Rich2175- $35 sidelines is veddy goot!
A fine post green day everyone!!!
Good morning Tsai-kos, Tsaikettes and O’SportsΒ©,
The USA vs Puerto Rico game last night was awesome, easily the best baseball finish I’ve seen live. The Puerto Rico fans were amazing, standing, (organized) chanting and (organized) singing for almost the entire game. They put the rest of us to shame, right up until David Wright hit the game winning, walk off, dink shot that fell fair by just a few feet down the right field foul line.
The celebration was electric with the players mobbing Wright and the pile moving from home plate all the way out to shallow left field. The departing home team fans were chanting all the way out of Dolphin stadium “U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!”
Shane “The Flyin’ Hawaiian” Victorino had a great game, going 3 for 4 and energizing the USA team with his hustle. I tried in vain to find a Team USA jersey with “50 Victorino” but it was not available at both the team store at the stadium and the online site. So we settled for a plain replica jersey, that my wife can use as a “jacket.”
Will be looking for a D. Bess jersey at the local Wal-Mart before we depart today.
Aloha Kakahiaka!
Hi LK! Thanks for the scoops – good luck finding a DB jersey!
Where everyone stay???
Too much St. Patty’s Day???
All, I stand corrected, I meant basketball, women’s basketball, but the crux of the article is that the athletic program in general is in financial trouble. You’re correct when you state that women’s volleyball and football are the cash cows, but look at the numbers in both sides of the ledger: The cash cows are getting thinner (less revenue in women’s volleyball, growing expenses). Without the Sugar Bowl injection the revenue stream for football is also declining.
Those cash cows alone cannot sustain the other programs. There will be red ink.
Thus my point, if there are sides to the issue protecting their own turf, that would ultimately lead to collapse. All parties in the matter having to do with athletics at the UH from entitled women’s to the cash cows have to sit at the table and figure it out, and really do it beyond what has been traditional means to address the problem as tradition is not helping.
So, my apologies on “volleyball” instead of “basketball”, and yes I did read the article and I have been following the Advertiser’s articles on the fate of the program.
Good Morning Liz! Good Morning Tsaikoville! Hope everyone has a good day. Going to watch the Spokane Shock play a pre-season game tonight, so I’ll be able to watch Jason Rivers and Hercules Satele play tonight. I’ll give everyone an update after the game or even during the game if JRiv scores
Awesome, djmitcho!
GO (former) WARRIORS!!!

LK (Miami) ~ You are a lucky buggah! You get to see a classic ball game, amongst hardened fans of the sport, and leave with a heart pounding USA victory cheer ringing in your head!…Priceless!
djmitcho ~ Das goin’ be one SHOCKAH! Keep us posted. (Make sure you are grounded)
Hiya Liz! ~ Won’t be able to make da Pipleine gig. Already pressed for duty Saturday. Having 3 new screen doors installed and catching heat from cousin Buddy’s gathering that starts soon after that’s done.
Why is there never enough time to squeeze in more fun stuff!
Good Morning All!
Liz,
No luck with the jersey,
Kekoa,
You’re right, priceless

One day late but….
Happy Birthday Esme
and
BIGHILOFAN2!
Kekoa,
Gotta make sure I’m grounded for this one. Our season tickets are usually about 1/3 the way up from the field, but for the pre-season game it was first come first serve on seats, so we are in the front row on the boards for this game. Might have to give a forearm to the opposing team if they get too close..hahaha.
Kekoa- no worry (sniff… nah nah nah) … hopefully m/m d1 will keep me company.
Anyone else like go to the Band Champ final and cheer for Ukuleleboi and friends? 2-4pm SATURDAY at Pipeline Cafe. Lemme know so I can get free tix for you.
LK- bah, too bad. Mebbe NEX in Honolulu may have them by now. I got my Redskins Cooley jersey there.
HIHO!
Can’t believe that they are asking me return my bonus. I earned it. I only got $1.5 million last week Friday, and that is all that I am getting. The average bonus check for my position at other companies in my industry is between 2.5 to 6.5 million dollars. Boy am I getting ripped off.
Oops, wrong blog.
Good morning Tsaikos….hope everyone has a good day…

What’s the song of the commercial about the football match between brazil and Portugal?

Figo takes the ball from the referee before the game begins.
And he simply uses the tricks of the ball through Ronaldo’s two legs.

really video has become the now a days premier resource of propagating the information among the people and users.
I think one of the most important parts of defense is positioning. I would put an emphasis on that and staying in your position. I would also teach them to contain and not just poke at the offensive players. I think those two things are pretty simple.
Now at this time video has become the important tools for chatting, giving demo of business, product or project models.
