Combo kicker to join Warriors

In building competition, the Rainbow Warriors are bringing in a three-tool player.

Jackson Dionne of Orange Coast College is expected to be included on the Warriors’ 104-player roster for training camp.

“He can kick field goals and kickoffs, and he can punt,” said Brad Bohn, director of the prestigious West Coast Kicking Academy. “We trained him the past two years as far as kicking and punting. He’s a tremendous athlete. He’s real calm and collected. The best way to describe him is he’s a competitor. He has a lot of pride, and he likes to compete.”

UH kicker Tyler Hadden is a WCKA graduate. Hadden has fully recovered from offseason hernia surgery. Joe Uglietto, who redshirted in 2012 after transferring from Colgate, is on the training-camp roster.

Ruben Guzman, who arrives this week, is the only UH punter on scholarship.

Bohn said Dionne’s field-goal range is 55 yards.

Bohn said Dionne is capable of launching kickoffs “to the goal line or end zone pretty consistently. He’s been above 4 seconds (on kickoff hangtimes) but he’s pretty consistent at 3.8, 3.9.”

Bohn said Dionne’s “best punts have been 60 (yards) in the air. He’ll get in the 4.5, 4.6 range (in hang time).”

Here’s a link to his highlights: Dionne videos.

I gotta real ‘kick’ being #1 today!

  3. PurpleMaple July 4, 2013 9:42 am

We needed kickers, so it seems we got some to punt and for kick-offs. Good news.

    Kekoa

You truly are a three-tool blogger.

  6. SteveM July 4, 2013 9:50 am

    Good morning everyone!

    Welcome Jackson Dionne!

  7. Stephen Tsai July 4, 2013 9:51 am

I think Joey Chestnut beat me by about 60 hotdogs and two hours.

I remember when Kapiolani Bakery used to run those sales: 20-cent hotdogs. We used to buy bagloads and eat them while playing table-top baseball in college. Of course, that weird Redondo’s red dye was difficult to wash off. We had bank robber hands.

  8. Stephen Tsai July 4, 2013 9:52 am

    Jackson Dionne.

    Dejon Allen.

Why do I have craving for mustard?

Know any 100-year-old people? According to Fitpregnancy.com, the most common baby names of 1913 were:

    John

    Mary

    William

    Helen

    James

    Dorothy

    Robert

    Margaret

    Joseph

    Ruth

  10. Stephen Tsai July 4, 2013 10:02 am

    I knew a baby Ruth

  11. Derek July 4, 2013 10:05 am

At least Chestnut was eating Nathan hot dogs. Anybody can find Nathan’s on Oahu? Is C.J. Santos on the 104 roster?

  12. bowwar July 4, 2013 10:09 am

Welcome Jackson Dionne!!! Should be a great addition, as Hadden has been injury prone and its good to have a reliable back-up. Being from a JC, Dionne has either 3 or 2 years to play 2??

    Happy 4th of July!!!

  13. Naks8 July 4, 2013 10:35 am

    Keep the talent coming

Happy 4th everyone. CFL football schedule today- Solomon Elimimian (BC Lions) v. Chad Owens (Toronto). Too bad ESPN is showing another game. I hope the local media notices this one.

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY! Went to a clambake yesterday at Hale Koa to celebrate.

    GOOD MORNING HAWAII!

DEREK – Manoa Marketplace – forgot the name but right around (makai) where Kay’s Crackseed is located.

With Hayden, Dionne and Guzman, we should have no kicks about our kickers!

  19. tommui July 4, 2013 10:59 am

DEREK #11 – my 18 was not clear – that place has Nathan’s hotdogs and assorted sandwiches.

  20. jm2375 (iPad) July 4, 2013 11:18 am

    Happy Independence Day Tsaikos!

Welcome to the ohana, Mr. Dionne!

Think you can buy Nathan’s hotdogs at any grocery store.

  21. Amela July 4, 2013 11:30 am

Kicker looks good but the cover team really sucks. Or is the returners really good, nah the cover team sucks.

  22. Stephen Tsai July 4, 2013 11:36 am

    I saw a Nathan’s in Las Vegas.

    Does that count as Hawaii?

  23. al July 4, 2013 11:43 am

I am waiting for a full sized arabiki.

or how about a foot long lup cheong???

served with hot chili bean paste!!!!!

in a foot long steamed Chinese bun…yikes.

    I’m drooling.

  24. lava July 4, 2013 11:53 am

Hadden (as I understand) had double hernia surgery. We saw what that did to the 49s; Akers is now the ex-kicker. If nothing else, the competition will be good for the team. Tyler has yet to be healthy, but maybe now is his time.

Manoa Marketplace – I think it is Kay’s that serves a mean shave ice, cream and beans, and you can get ice cream inside too.

  25. Derek July 4, 2013 11:57 am

#15, my friend/classmate/golf buddy has commissary priviledges. I’ll ask him to get some. I want the package, not sold individually. I think the Manoa Marketplace might be sold individually on the spot. But, I could be wrong. Thanks very much.

Nice job on Leahey and Leahey ST…

  28. redhill July 4, 2013 12:38 pm

The panini kiosk in Ala Moana Center’s makai marketplace sells Nathan’s hotdogs. The combo (hotdog, chips, soda) is reasonably priced. Can’t vouch that the dog is Nathan’s, however, but it tastes good.

  29. d1shima July 4, 2013 1:15 pm

    SteveM,

Thanks. Obviously, I won’t be getting a call today but fortunately I am off tomorrow. Unfortunately, I may have to spend the whole day off waiting by the phone in order to get my seats relocated and buy an additional seat. 😕

  30. Chux27 July 4, 2013 1:27 pm

I was just wondering about the seat relocation request. I’ve been waiting, maybe still get chance before Monday.

  31. d1shima July 4, 2013 1:37 pm

    Chux,

I called yesterday and was told they were in the process of calling based on their established priority list: Tsaikos Last!

    Thanks for posting….

WTH is wrong with the audio of the announcers for the CFL game, ey? 🙄

  33. iwonderwhytheyhateme July 4, 2013 1:53 pm

    #19 Tommui,

Thanks for that. Now I remember. Island Burger in Manoa is one of them places. They make a tasty eggplant parm sandwich too. Yum-o.

  34. Chux27 July 4, 2013 2:21 pm

    d1shima,

    Thanks for the info.

I wonder if the spammer should be congratulated – more he does it, more entries into blog. More entries means more recognition to ST as one of the more popular blog sites.

I believe Sam’s Club in Pearl City uses Nathan hot dogs and of course the price is great.

#60 – re: Nathan’s hot dogs. They sell them at Sams Club – they even have a 40lb package. I guess you have to wait before the end of summer, or election day or something like that.

  45. Kekoa July 5, 2013 3:54 am

St ~ There is so much SPAM on the WB that your filters are stopping ‘us’ instead of ‘them!’

I managed to climb in an open window to post this note. Still, I’m staying away until the club house is properly *Tented, Fumigated & Sanitized.*

  46. Popeye July 5, 2013 5:03 am

albow — I got the same message last week as it said my IP address posted spam. It seemed a one-time glitch, and worked an hour later without me resetting anything.

  50. SteveM July 5, 2013 8:55 am

My 2 cents on the SPAM thing…

If you believe that the majority of the SPAM is being posted by a a disgruntled jackass… then

complaining about it, leaving the forever, and even suggesting we go to the Tsai-ko life boat PLAYS INTO HIS HAND Mission accomplished.

Best advice is to just ignore the SPAM and let ST handle it.

Don’t complain or talk about it– that’s the attention the spammer wants.

Just like the nutzo, nasty trolls of the past– don’t get angry, drawn in and argue–that is playing HIS game.

TROLL — SPAM — same thing.

…and ST, start passing out some loaded mags, please. 😐
