Colt, Princess' video, 'School House Rock!'

Colt Brennan said he remains one of the “Warriors’ biggest fans.”
He said he subscribes to ESPN360 and the Oceanic hookup. “Every Saturday, I’m in a hotel,” Brennan said. “I take my laptop and I watch the games.”
But, he admits, with the time difference, “sometimes I don’t make it to the end of the game.”
He said if the Warriors make it to the Sheraton Hawai‘i bowl “it will be a great season.”

OK, this is way off topic, but we bought a DVD of “School House Rock!” yesterday at Suncoast. It’s the 30th anniversary edition, which means none of the UH players — and half of the coaches — remember it. (Credit alert: My bud Jeannie Lee actually brought up the show during a conversation a couple of months ago.)
But, c’mon, “I’m Just a Bill” is the best explanation of the law-making process in this country.
And, of course, there’s no better lessen than “Conjunction Function.” (I think a new version should have “run and shoot.”)
Here are the links we found on youtube, although it’s better to get the DVD and watch it on the TV screen. After school, of course.

School of Rock was great stuff. Hoe else would some of us know how to hook up clauses and phrases.

Any chance Manti Teo is still thinking of UH?

  3. lava November 12, 2008 5:31 am

Hoe? I guess School House Rock needed to come up with a spelling video.

  4. Loa November 12, 2008 5:33 am

    morning again gang!

School House Rock – we picked that up a couple of weeks ago too, classic

I mentioned yesterday that Colt reads the blog.

  6. Stephen Tsai November 12, 2008 5:37 am

UH is still going after Manti, but I think his heart is somewhere else.

  7. GMA Honey November 12, 2008 5:51 am

Conjunction Junction, what’s your function? I remember it well, the first time around.

  8. Garret November 12, 2008 6:00 am

We bought Schoolhouse Rock a couple of years ago on DVD…and I’m anxiously waiting for the day when I can show it to my kids! We don’t let them watch Saturday morning cartoons or anything that isn’t prerecorded, so they wouldn’t see Schoolhouse Rock any other way.

Former Warrior LeMacus Gibson to transfer to SMU?

Former Hawaii player LeMarcus Gibson of Gulf Coast Community College and originally from Harrison Central High School may be close to pulling the trigger and rejoining June Jones and Jeff Reinebold, this time at SMU.

  10. Garret November 12, 2008 6:05 am

Article about how the Hawaii Bowl might have a hard time to find a bowl matchup. If the Pac-10 doesn’t have a team available for the Hawaii Bowl it will be a problem, especially since there are less bowl eligible teams than bowl spots. Even if every team that needs just one win for a bowl spot gets it, there STILL won’t be enough bowl eligible teams.

Right now, the Hawaii Bowl officials are praying for the Warriors to be bowl eligible. They’re not getting a Pac 10 team as is, and if Hawaii isn’t in, there will be exactly five people at the game. And that leads to the other problem: will the teams accept the bowl bids?

At best, schools break even when it comes to bowl games, but that’s rare. Mediocre teams going to lousy bowl games lose their shirts when they have to eat the tickets they don’t sell to their fan bases that don’t travel. Schools like to use bowl games to reward the band, top boosters, and other VIPs, but that’s not going to happen for a lot of schools. Expect the bowls to do whatever possible to keep the local teams within range and not demand a massive influx of fans who have to fly in.

  11. Garret November 12, 2008 6:06 am

The Pac 10, SEC, and Big 12 apparently won’t be able to fill their bowl spots.

The SEC will be the biggest culprit. Two SECers are certain to be in the BCS, likely leaving three open SEC bowl spots. The hope for the bowls will be for Vanderbilt to finally get off that five-win bump, but it’s unlikely to happen at Kentucky or against Tennessee, as bad as the Vols might be right now. Auburn’s probably going to be stuck on five wins with Georgia and Alabama to close, and Arkansas needs to beat both Mississippi State in Starkville, as well as LSU, to be bowl eligible. That’s not going to happen.

The Pac 10 will be almost as big a problem, and it won’t have the excuse of putting two teams into the BCS (unless Oregon State wins out against Cal, at Arizona and Oregon). Arizona State going 3-6 hasn’t helped, Stanford will need to pull off an upset against USC or at Cal to be eligible, and UCLA isn’t going to be alive in the chase.

The Big 12 will likely leave two bowl spots open with Colorado and Texas A&M, two teams that appeared headed for six wins, needing to pull off shockers to be eligible. The Buffs will have to beat either Oklahoma State or Nebraska at Nebraska, while Texas A&M will have to win at both Baylor and Texas.

  12. Garret November 12, 2008 6:07 am

So, the Hawaii Bowl will probably choose from the #3 or so team in the MAC or Sun Belt…

Get ready to see an infiltration of MAC teams in the bowls. The Sun Belt will be certain to get two teams into the bowls, and there might be a third.

  13. Garret November 12, 2008 6:09 am

LA Times mentions the Warriors in a less than positive way…as the example of weird things in college football.

Granted, there is a lot of weirdness in my beloved game right now. How about that long hair flowing out the back of the helmets? I saw the University of Hawaii play recently and I thought I was watching an Herbal Essence commercial. Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair. Rapunzel, Rapunzel, hold on to that handoff.

  14. Stephen Tsai November 12, 2008 6:16 am

    Garret:
    Good find on Le’Marcus Gibson.
You could see that something was up. Weird thing is that he was more of a Miano/Duff find.

  15. ChinaDrew November 12, 2008 6:17 am

    Go Warriors!! go get um.

  16. Garret November 12, 2008 6:19 am

    ST,

Maybe Gibson saw that he wasn’t going to get much playing time at UH? And SMU definitely has no depth and years of bad recruiting by the previous coach leave lots of playing opportunities available…

  17. Garret November 12, 2008 6:23 am

    ST,

Even if Gibson was a Miano/Duff find, it appears that Reinbold was the one recruiting him. Quote from my archive:

“Warriors defensive line coach Jeff Reinebold was relentless, while Gibson’s home-state schools were lukewarm at best — despite Gibson’s 142 tackles last year at Harrison High School in Gulfport.

  18. Maverick November 12, 2008 6:24 am

    Good morning Tsaiko nation….

mrs. bulla sends her mahalos for all the props; now it’s back to reality, work, work, and work.

    bye week, ho hum

steve M., it will be myself and mrs. bulla at 930 pm for this weekend, she’ll be coming from a concert at aloha tower. rest of bombers to ‘drop in’ when it’s done.

keep us in the loop, it’s only wednesday and something will come up 🙂

    have a GREAT wednesday Tsaikos!

  21. Jay November 12, 2008 6:33 am

    Morning Tsaikos.

There was a DVD set of “School House Rock” for sale at Wally World. I think either in the $13 or $9 section.

  22. whitey November 12, 2008 6:39 am

good morning tsaikos. hope you all have a great day in paradise. i know wafan is battling the wind and rain.

  24. whitey November 12, 2008 6:55 am

  25. bulla November 12, 2008 6:55 am

    aloha whitey,

this clock is throwing me off, i see your post at 644 am and get on the phone, then i realize it’s only 6:30 am. this Back to the Future stuff has got to stop, it’s confusing me, haha

did you mention Sac State for the WAC, whew, rather see the SL Crusaders play UH. Sac State is having a challenging season, nice area, decent stadium but small, and good restaurants in the town. upbeat area, reminded me of a mellow kahala area.

if you’re chasing your white balls today, hit ’em hard, hit ’em low, but most important, watch where they go!!!

    a hui hou 🙂

  26. A-House November 12, 2008 6:57 am

    Mentioning Mani Te’o:

Had this weird dream last night that he held a press conference to thank all the schools that expressed interest, but he turned them down by saying that “there is no place like home” and promptly committed to UH.

Wow, “to dream the impossible dream” ……………….

  27. A-House November 12, 2008 6:59 am

    Hi Colt:

Thanks for following the Warriors and your contributions to UH.

We are the family “up the street” from your most favorite sports writer in Hawaii.

    Have a great day!

  28. Stretch November 12, 2008 7:19 am

    Good Morning Tsaikos!!

Looking forward to the Princess Videos today.

Thanks Colt for checking up on us. I hope that our beloved ST made the delivery of the beer mug to your parents, although somehow I don’t think so.

  29. Blackie (ブラッキ) November 12, 2008 7:42 am

I remember those. What about Fearless Fly, Tom Slick, Milton the Monster, and Underdog? Any of those available on DVD?

  30. Buffoman November 12, 2008 7:44 am

That’s great that the Warriors are still after Mr. Te’o. If he is looking to schools on the continent to further his education as the reason for leaving, there are far better schools than USC, BYU, ND, that could help him meet the education he seeks, if that were the case. I’m quite certain that Harvard, Yale, Princeton and the like would love to have Mr. Te’o on their football team and in their institution, and I am quite certain that they would help him financially get there.

Now if it’s for the football he’s after, USC, Texas, Okalhoma, Florida are of the football pedigree that academics are to the aforementioned schools. So, if that’s the case and football is the goal he may want to choose the Warriors.

    Huh?

When you’re at USC, Texas, etc., as good as you may be here, you are a part of a bigger numbers game there as they have other recruits from other communities that these schools are always recruiting heavily in that may have that next BIG star. The light may not shine as brightly on you. Mr. Maiava of Maui is a starter and a good player but the stars often mentioned in that SC linebacking core are the two others.

If you’re good and you’re here, in a place where UH is the only collegiate game in town, you’re it. And the coaches here are no fools, if they can sell you and get you to the next level they’ll bleed to get you there as they too want to at least get a peek from those grounds that the USCs of college football are always securing the 5 and 4 star players.

So, if you want to go to a place where you are going to be “it”, that may not happen on the continent, but if you shine (as Colt did) you will be “it” in your back yard.

  31. madeinhawaii November 12, 2008 7:57 am

When the Warrior best make it into the pros, the bonding experience they had as Warriors are never forgotten. You can see that in how they often get together wherever they are on the mainland.. and it doesn’t really matter whether or not they never played in the same years… what matters is that they played for Hawaii.. and that THEY are WARRIORS.

So play at home Mani Te’o, help fill the house, be a local legend, stand out and get your mainland experience in the NFL. Play in front of your family and friends. Given these economic times, who knows who can make it to the mainland to watch their children or friends play, anymore? Who needs you more? Where will you have the biggest impact and make a difference? So be a Warrior. Not just at UH but at YOUR Home.

  32. Kekoa November 12, 2008 8:13 am

    Aloha Kakahiaka Tsai-ko’s!

My Nightmare ~ Massive unemployment across the once ‘Fruited’ Plains. Major layoffs already happening daily. Ala Moana Center in Bankruptcy?! Bailouts not enuff to stop the economic bleeding.

Cut to film at 11 by the Princess…from her trip to DC…talks of football shutting down due to fans being unable to afford coming to the games! Tsaiko’s begin taking to the streets! Homey spotted atop the Stan Sheriff Center unfurling the UH Flag upside down in a sign of distress…Students plan a march on Washington instead of an Inauguarel Parade!

Super Yikes! More Drama for Obama.

(I’m going back to my ceded lands cave to diagram plays on the walls for future generations).

  33. djmitcho November 12, 2008 8:18 am

Good Morning Tsaikos! It’s another wet and windy day here on the eastside of WA. I loved School House Rock growing up. I bought the CD’s a few years back and now I guess I need to get the DVD’s just for old time sake. I also need to get a couple more Kikaida DVD’s to complete the collection. Ah….small kid time…such an easier time in life.

  34. Kekoa November 12, 2008 8:19 am

Hurrah for Princess Leila & her new camera! Looking forward to any interview of Colt she’ll be able to schedule back East. Hi, Colt!

School House what? Huh? lessen = lesson ?

    Esme & whooosh….

    GO WARRIORS!!! and ‘BOWS!

  37. Da Punchbowl Kid November 12, 2008 9:02 am

The question is, does Mr. Te’o want to be a part of a Warrior BCS victory? I believe that’s where the Warriors are going some time in the next few years.

Does Mr. Te’o want to become an All American, a local hero, a big fish in his own pond? That’s what I think he would become if he’s a Warrior.

Does Mr. Te’o want to play in front of family and friends and represent Hawaii and all of Polynesia as he does so? He won’t be nearly so special at a mainland school.

Does Mr. Te’o see the quantum leap that UH is making in terms of recruitment? He would be the crown jewel here, what would he be at a mainland school?

Many would argue against all of the above points, but as a UH fan, that’s how I see things. Where ever Mr. Te’o goes, I wish him the best, but more than anything, I wish he would be a Warrior.

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  38. Rob25 November 12, 2008 9:04 am

    Good Morning Tsaikos and Tsaikettes!

GGP (ie Ala Moana, Ward Centers, etc) in Bankruptcy 😯

    Manti in A-House’s dream 😯 😯

Thanks A-joe for the video link…yeah that was too funny.

Hi Colt…um, can you guys take it easy on my Cowboys this week? Romo needs to get his groove back. 😆

    Gotta Esme….whooooosh.

    aloha kakahiaka!

On the road today. Listening to 1500 and they were talking about the blog. Signal was weak but I heard enuf to call in to yak.
    Hi ho!

  42. FloridaTed November 12, 2008 9:06 am

    Good morning/afternoon, Tsaiko-Nation and Tsai-Meister.

Times are scary right now for everybody and so it’s a very good thing we have our Warriors as a welcome distraction and hopefully, a happy diversion.

I need a break from life and so I’m taking the wife and drive up to Jacksonville to spend 5 days with my daughter and grandchildren. I need some happy and young sounds around me, as a reminder of what life is all about.

I had no idea how hard it is to wait for a decision from an agent. The three weeks of waiting seem like three years. I must be a little crazy to hope that the first agency I’ve approached would take my book. On the other hand I already got further than most. But the pins and needles I’m sitting on are making my budd hurt already.

The last four games will be exciting, our Warriors will come to play and make us proud.

  43. Rob25 November 12, 2008 9:06 am

    Oh, forgot to mention….

    I love “I’m just a bill!”

I also loved the one about the Preamble…to this day I taught my kids that so that they will remember it. They sure did have some great ones!

Thanks ST for reminding us all about them! I used to have the VHS tapes, but gave them to the library for others to use.

  44. NYUH November 12, 2008 9:07 am

With Obama as President I imagine all the Punahou players’ stock have gone up.

  45. Da Punchbowl Kid November 12, 2008 9:07 am

    Howzit Mei Ling!
It was nice to finally meet you at the KBay extravaganza on Saturday.

DPK. You make sense most of the time. This time, you are way off. Teo will be special no matter where he goes. He is that kind of player, like Rey Maualuga, Junior Seau, Lofa Tatupu. In that category.

  48. Pauoa Boy November 12, 2008 9:16 am

    Good morning gang…

My gut says Manti goes to BYU, but good ol Norm Chow has UCLA becoming very attractive to our local prospects and I know he’s been at Manti’s hip. We’ll see on LOI day what paperwork they all sign, just hoping its the green one titled Hawaii Warriors!

  49. Pauoa Boy November 12, 2008 9:19 am

If Manti no sign…ainokea…PaiPai Falemalu is going to be the man!!!

  50. Ink November 12, 2008 9:23 am

Newsflash: Teo will not sign with UH.

UH has nothing to offer Teo, except maybe the opportunity to sit on the bench in favor of community college recruits. Ask Funaki about this.

  51. Da Punchbowl Kid November 12, 2008 9:25 am

    Ink,

I hear you. We ALL know that he’s gonna be special where ever he goes, and we’ll all be very proud of a good La’ie boy like him no matter what.

I hope you understand that as a Warrior fan I GOTTA say some things to try and get him to play here. 😉

Let’s rephrase it like this, if he plays here, he can be even more “special-er” and you and I can enjoy cool beverages at a Tsaiko tailgate before we go and watch him at Aloha Stadium. 🙂

    GO WARRIORS!!!
    MANTI, STAY HOME!!! 😆

  52. Jason November 12, 2008 9:27 am

I’m Just a Bill! I remember that! (IDK why I remember that, seeing that I’m only 21, and the show was pau when I was born.)

My gut says Manti heads to UCLA. But yeah, I wish he’s stay here. Some guys, though, they just want to go away. I had friends like that too. Me, I wanted to stay home. 🙂

  53. expat November 12, 2008 9:29 am

I guess the silver lining with the whole bowl-eligible team shortage situation is that no one is likely to get screwed as has happened in the past. Looks like everyone that is eligible will play somewhere. Also, despite the costs involved I can’t see anyone choosing to stay home rather than play in a bowl. It will be interesting to see what the NCAA does to fill out any shortages. Is there any precedent? Do bowls just get cancelled for lack of teams?

My vote is to allow teams to play in more than one bowl. Why not? The bowl season is almost a month long as it is. Allow teams to fill unfilled slots based on some criteria. That has got to be better than canceling a bowl.

Or they could institute the Big Blue Pity Rule whereby if there are unfilled slots Michigan is allowed to play, but it has to be at least 1,000 miles away from Ann Arbor and it has to be against a non-BCS conference team (so they at least have a chance to be competitive).

One more idea would be to allow the quarterfinalists in the FCS to enter unfilled bowl games. That would be interesting.

As much as it would be great to have Manti at UH I can see how the coaches are not losing sleep. The way things stand on the team right now it looks to me that even with Sol and Adam graduating the linebacker corp is probably the least pressing recruiting need. If he goes on a mission as you expect it makes it even more difficult to gauge his short and long term value.

There are plenty of other top quality players in the islands that could fill greater position needs that the coaches should be focusing on. Out of curiosity, how many seniors on the top 5 ranked teams in the State (Punahou, St Louis, Kahuku, Farrington, Leilehua) have offers from Hawaii? Looking at PIAA there aren’t many listed, but I certainly don’t know how up to date that list is.

  54. tommui November 12, 2008 9:29 am

I would agree with BUFFOMAN that if Mr. Te’o were intelligent, he should opt for the Ivys – Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Columbia etc. (After all, fellow alum Barack Obama went to Columbia!)

If all he wants to do in life is play football, he would opt for a football school.

If he was smart, he would go to UH. Look at CB as an example and how our people have made him a “native” son. If he were to run for political office, he would be a shoo-in.

And how little Hawaii remembers players that left our shores to play elsewhere.

  55. madeinhawaii November 12, 2008 9:34 am

Maybe we should ask Funaki. I’d bet he’d say nothing but positive things regarding his experience at Manoa. He got to suit up. He got to go on the road. he got to start. He’s still in the mix. Nothing wrong with that. The coaches even created a moving pocket for him and moved away from the run-n-shoot, so that Funaki would have the best shot at success.

    So Te’o, yes.. ask Funaki.

  56. madeinhawaii November 12, 2008 9:36 am

I find it interesting that the Warrior coaches feel that they will be through with recruiting (at least the primary stages of initiating contact and offering scholies, greyshirt, or walk-on) by the Cincinnati game.

That’s well ahead of the curve when it comes to UH football.

    WTG coaches… !

  57. Kelli November 12, 2008 9:43 am

Good morning, ST and Tsai-ko crew!

Whoops! I’ve been kinda MIA lately. Love the Schoolhouse Rock. My dad bought me the VIDEO TAPE. Yeah, I don’t think DVDs were around yet or maybe they weren’t as popular.

    Happy Wednesday!

  58. Pauoa Boy November 12, 2008 9:46 am

Way cool…she’s the flavor in my shaved ice!

  61. Jason November 12, 2008 9:58 am

Hey, Kelli! So, did you ever try that ginger-lemon tea? Cause, well, I’ve been “enjoying” some of late. Yeah, I have a cold now. 🙁

(At least I can play hooky today. Just e-mailed my professor my homework. Although, I’m still behind in studying for some other classes …)

The Hawaii State Society in Washington says it has sold all 750 tickets to the January 20th ball at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. They cost $200 apiece.

Hawaii’s congressional delegation, Governor Lingle, Kauai-born retired Army General Eric Shinseki and former University of Hawaii quarterback Colt Brennan of the Washington Redskins received invitations.

Manti Te’o, you could be next!

  75. Hoohiki November 12, 2008 10:48 am

The difference between Te’o and Funaki is obvious…

Funaki wanted to be a Warrior and is a Warrior…Te’o doesn’t and won’t.

How I wish his (and family’s) mind wasn’t so made up not to play for his home and people…Que sera sera as Doris would say….

But like someone posted before…Better to put our energy, emotion, and time to those who want to be a Warrior.

USC would be a tough lineup to crack for any football player. Chris Galippo was at the top or near the top of the list for LB out of hs. He is a redshirt freshman playing in 6 of 9 games as a reserve. Kaluka is starting as a senior but had to find pt on special teams for 3 years in which he excelled.

BSU and the MWC are denying the report that BSU was invited to join the MWC.

Everyone from Mountain West commissioner Craig Thompson to Kustra is refuting any contact has been made.

“I can categorically say Dr. Kustra has not received a letter from the Mountain West Conference. No correspondence has been exchanged, there are no active discussions nor change of status regarding conference affiliations,” said BSU spokesman Frank Zang after speaking with Kustra on Tuesday afternoon.

Thompson was asked about membership expansion in the nine-member Mountain West on Monday. He said he does not expect expansion and that the “next time the board meets is in June.”

Oregon State football players have stopped shaving in their attempt to make the Rose Bowl.

    Welcome to “No Shave November.”

An idea initiated by Oregon State H-back Gabe Miller has caught on. Most of the offensive players stopped shaving Nov. 1, and the defense is beginning to follow suit.

Quarterback Lyle Moevao heard that he’s got “the best beard so far.” It’s also beginning to itch.

“This is about a week and a half in, so man, I’m dying over here,” Moevao said. “I can’t wait till the end of November comes.”

Article strongly in favor of a playoff system instead of the BCS.

This will sound like a broken record, but it bears repeating: there is no sport on earth other than division I-A college football (or whatever silly name the NCAA slaps on it) in which a team can go unbeaten and not get to keep playing or compete for a championship.

That’s none. Zero. Crossword puzzle players get to compete until they lose, for crying out loud. But not D-1 college football players.

The college presidents deserve to be hammered for this because they are a bunch of preening hypocrites who think (in most cases) that putting the word “doctor” in front of their name makes them smart. They look people in the eye and say things they know are completely untrue and then get upset when someone calls them on it. Example: “We don’t want a playoff because it would hurt our ‘student-athletes.’ ” Adding a 12 th regular season game to increase revenue was okay, but creating a playoff system with games played almost wholly between semesters remains an issue.

But the presidents aren’t the real culprits anymore. As a group, they know almost nothing about athletics. They think they need to perpetuate the BCS, regardless of how awful it is, because a playoff system would mean sharing more of the wealth with their non-BCS brethren. What they fail to understand is that the revenue would increase so much that even if they had to dole more of the money out to Conference USA, the WAC and the Mountain West, everyone would still be wealthier.

Which is why the bad guys in this are the BCS commissioners. That would be Mike Tranghese of the Big East, John Swofford of the ACC, Tom Hansen of the Big Ten, Mike Slive of the SEC, Dan Beebe of the Big 12 and the unspeakable Jim Delany of the Big 10.

UH’s next opponent is Idaho and they are a mess. Not only are they struggling on the field, but teammates got into a fight and pressed charges against each other! That has to be a horrible indication about their chemistry.

Idaho running back Deonte Jackson was issued a citation for misdemeanor battery Friday by Moscow Police after one of his teammates accused the sophomore of hitting him during a fight at an off-campus party Nov. 2.

The charge will not affect his playing status for Saturday’s home game against rival Boise State, Idaho coach Robb Akey said Monday.

Jackson is the fourth Idaho player to be cited after the incident. Safety Shelton Miles, cornerback Breyon Williams and receiver Dewey Hale were charged with misdemeanor battery after an alleged fight with another man. The three were suspended indefinitely last week by Akey.

One of those players charged Jackson, assistant Moscow Police Chief David Duke said. Duke and Akey declined to say which player charged Jackson, who is Idaho’s leading rusher with 594 yards.

💡 Karaoke B-Day Bash to be at Genji this Saturday

Peaches gave me THE stare and said, “Just have it at Genji’s. Everybody knows the place and can come and go anytime. Why worry about finding a place…and $15 cover is too much this week”.

Hmmmm…on short notice–don’t have to worry about finding a new unfamiliar place (since KrazyK is out). Don’t have to worry about when people will arrive and when to start and end the room rental time clock. Don’t have to collect room rental fee$.

Plus, old karaoke places like Genji still has the old songs–which is a big factor this week. We’ve also had Tsai-ko “not-a-birthday” parties there before. BTW, Bulla is bringing the cake (mentioning it here so we don’t accidentally end up with 3 cakes). Also, Art’s offering a Tsai-kos only special on Jaeger Bombs that night 🙂

    KARAOKE CALL
    Saturday, November 15, 2008
    9:00 PM (after Wahine Volleyball)
    Club Genji

Karaoke Call and “not-Lyn’s-birthday” celebration after the Wahine volley match this Saturday. Some arriving at 8:00 for dinner first.

Come anytime, leave anytime. No charge except for pupus and drink. Lots of 60’s, 70’s and 80’s favorites to rock the house! Some Japanese tunes too as we share the main lounge (unless we double our numbers), but we’ll have room to dance 🙂

RSVP’s not necessary but let me know if you can (for secondary planning reasons).

Attended the Coach’s huddle last night with the usual suspects. Stretch, da twins, sj & myki, R25, Kazz, Cal of Kona, and Pops. Pulehu Ribs were outstanding!

UH Fan 808 kept the win streak alive for the Tsaiko Prize patrol. She won a very well made UH/ESPN embroidered tote bag without the tote inside (?). Must be the economy.

Coach Miano had a long discussion with BC about all da fb stuff we’ve already hashed out on the blog. I felt like he could have learned more from just hooking up with us! My impression was that it was a kinda ‘dry’ radio show.

Eh DPK…we had C O O K I E S! Thank you Myki…Diana enjoyed the one cookie you had me deliver. The other 7 were spoiling fast along the way, so I had to go ahead and eat them. Nah!…Tsaik!

That was my first Call The Coach in a while and it was an interesting one to say the least. I can’t believe how much work is being done by our awesome staff in building for the future.

To lose 35 seniors for a program that doesn’t exactly “re-load” all the time can be very damaging, but looks like “Dr. Mack” and his crack team of surgeons are planning to stop the “bleeding” before it even starts.

For our benefit this is NOT good at all. I suspect THREE head coaches in the WAC could very well lose their jobs during the off-season and that means you’d have at least three teams that are already at the bottom of our conference trying to “gel” with a new staff … and that number could be $4 if a lot of FSU fans get their way.

Maybe that person that wrote that should ask David Veikune where he gets his hair done huh??? As I recall..

    Princess Leila,

Welcome back, excellent video. Makes our boys so personal to us. The Team spirit seems to be fine. Having you back makes me realize how much those videos of yours were missed by all.

Just finished reading the Na Koa lunch report. This is the best and most detailed yet. Check it out, everybody, it’s really worth it.

It clearly shows that all these stupid calls for coaches heads were just that, stupid. The report shows how much fine detail has to be learned by the entire offense, to make it humm properly.

To have it run as well as it does right now and after reading the report, it has become clear to me that our coaches are very competent, in particular Ron Lee. I no longer have any doubt that he knows all the ins and outs of the R’n’S as well as anybody.

Here’s to the humming Warrior machine !

I just realized that this is the best time to be playing sports in Hawaii. For the next 4 years, at least, the President of the United States of American will have his roots here. AND that means all eyes will point this way many many times over those 4 years. Even though Obama never went to UH, it’s still a big part of Hawaii. These are the years of visibility. Warriors take note… recruits be AWARE!

What happened???? Today is Wednesday so I avoid AM 1500.

So someone attended a Tsaiko function and was talking stink??? Again I wasn’t listening so I don’t know.

It seems to me that a hybrid type of UH “fan” has emerged since the spoils of last season have left and a new era and some challenges and some frustrations have come about out of this season.

No doubt we were all spoiled last year and no doubt a lot of us felt frustrated this season but it’s to what extent we express those frustrations.
Now all those that have come on this blog and expressed their opinions that may be different from ours have done NOTHING but claim outlandish accusations to the current staff that they have nothing but favoritism based on either race or personal preference based on past experiences and the FACT is those accusations were not backed up by PROOF.

Just today, someone took it upon themselves to use the Manti Te’o situation to slander the UH coaches and blah blah blah…

Garbage in, garbage out. You come in talking s*** you leave smelling like it.

Is this blog one-sided? Maybe. But hey, this is a side I and everyone here likes. Is this blog property of the public? Yes. No doubt, but the TSAIKOS represent a part of the public that chooses to participate in positive discussions about UH athletics and sometimes not so much positive discussions (see last season’s “Frazier Diaries”).

The fact remains, many of us here respect Jim Donovan, have come to respect Chancellor Hinshaw, and back Coach Mack. If people wanna argue otherwise, they should do so with respect and intelligence because while this remains a public forum, the part of the public that participates here are those that have found common ground in doing all they can fiscally and emotionally in supporting the university that we all have come to love through our own past experiences as players, fans, and as former students.

    YO! TSAIKOS!!!

While Obama is in office… Hawaii has to figure out ways to really enhance it’s image on all highly visible fronts. This really includes all UH Sports. Better make sure nothing else stiffles the Ching Complex. Not a time for cut-backs there.

Somebody go review all the Aloha Stadium tapes to check for sore spots that need immediate addressing.

    Gotta look nice for television…!

  140. Garret November 12, 2008 2:07 pm

JJ just suspended his top 2 WRs (who have more catches than the rest of their WRs combined) and several other players for his “3 strikes” rule. I don’t think he was this strict on discipline when he was at UH.

SMU’s top receivers, junior Emmanuel Sanders and sophomore Aldrick Robinson, are suspended for the Mustangs’ final two games due to a series of minor infractions. At least two other starters face similar suspensions, according to sources.

Sanders and Robinson were suspended under coach June Jones’ “three strikes” rule. A player can pick up a strike for being late to practice, team meetings and study halls, among other violations.

Robinson (1,047) and Sanders (958) are ranked No. 4 and No. 10 in the nation in receiving yards. Their 2,005 combined yards smashed the previous school single-season record for a tandem. Jerry LeVias (1,131) and Ken Fleming (588) combined for 1,719 yards in 1968.

Robinson has 11 touchdowns and is tied with Emanuel Tolbert (1978) for the single-season record. Sanders has at least 600 receiving yards in each of his three seasons, a first on the Hilltop. He also has nine touchdowns.

  147. madeinhawaii November 12, 2008 2:24 pm

    d1島,

Oh yeah.. how could I forget Senator Inouye?

Got a lot of things working in Hawaii’s favor as we head into this economic downturn, let’s hope our local policy makers got their act together, forget policital differences, and work to keep Hawaii afloat. After all, we are all in this ship together!

  148. takoboy November 12, 2008 2:24 pm

In regards to the hair…I’ve always said that UH would be the All-Hair team. And even though tattoos are prevalent throughout football, I think UH would be the All-Tattoo team too!

is it actually OSU (da beavers) that keep boise from the bcs rather than OSU (da bucks)…forgot all about the beavs, they got a decently tough schedule remaining but it sure ain’t impossible. we’ll see. ugh boring weekend coming (as far as football is concerned), no top 10 tilts and no hawaii game. maybe i’ll check out what could amount to manti’s last regular season HS game.

  154. Stephen Tsai November 12, 2008 2:29 pm

d1 – we also gotta take advantage while Inouye is still alive.

  156. ryan November 12, 2008 2:32 pm

    Howzit Everbody,

It is great to see the Princess back in the house. Great video and looking forward to many more.

In regard to recruiting, I think we will be getting alot more good news in the coming week. Hopefully we can get the WR from Los Medanos and it looks like the recruit from Long Beach Poly is a Safety Stanjavirus McKay. Hopefully I got the spelling correct on his name. If not sorry brah.

  202. Kazz November 12, 2008 5:19 pm

    Oh crap…

Here comes the office vacation schedule for 2009…

Time to play “hit or miss” with taking a week off for Spring Practice next season and Fall Practice as well…

    (crosses fingers)

  203. Committed Road Warrior November 12, 2008 5:20 pm

d1 and Kazz: Too funny, but probably true! 🙂

The Green-and-White-Out note was about 3/4 of the way down in the H-Mail E-Newsletter message thingy the UHAD sends out every week.

  207. madeinhawaii November 12, 2008 5:29 pm

Jeeze.. I’m hoping it’s Stanjavirus McKay, too. That would really solidfy the backfield for the defense. Next gotta worry about the O-line.

Everything just seems to be falling into place months ahead of schedule. These coaches are really working every angle to bring the Warrior program to greater heights. I’m impressed.

It takes more than wins and losses to build a program and to put it on the right footing. Our coaching staff are covering all the bases. The wins will come and snowball, can’t wait.

  208. kama krab November 12, 2008 5:30 pm

    Wassuuup Braddah Kazz

The next game I get to I go come down and say howzit. Those seats I was in actually is my cousins husbands seat but he was home sick but I think Idaho’s game I going try find tickets around there.

  209. madeinhawaii November 12, 2008 5:34 pm

Has Kahuhku’s DB Aulola Tonga Jr committed anywhere?

  210. kama krab November 12, 2008 5:34 pm

I think would be nice for us to get kids like Aulola Tonga of Kahuku and Isiah Iuta of Farrington. Another name I wouldn’t mind seeing in green is Apelo Sooalo. This boy would make a good power back with a litte bit more weight training.

  211. madeinhawaii November 12, 2008 5:45 pm

Hmm… regarding that Le’Marcus Gibson.. transfer. So there’s a chance our Warriors might meet him in 2010? heh heh heh…

  212. Jason November 12, 2008 5:49 pm

That reminds me, I haven’t gotten H-Mail updates in a while. Geez, UH just lost my e-mail address. 😛

And while I was harping on the multi-colored ponchos before that game, it actually looked kinda cool-ish — as if we were the Rainbow Warriors again. 😛

  213. Kelli November 12, 2008 5:50 pm

Pauoa Boy: Hehe! Nice to be back!

Jason: No, never got a chance to try the tea, but you better keep chugging that stuff. Get well soon!

koakane iPhone: Glad you enjoyed my Maui pics! I already want to go back. Heck, I’d buy a house there and move if I could. But uh, yeah, better finish school first and find a job.

  214. Kazz November 12, 2008 6:12 pm

    RE: Color coordinated crowd.

If this were a dictatorship I’d make everyone wear black and they would be given conch shell lessons and they’ll be required to blow them on 3rd downs for the other team.

Again it seems like only under a dictatorship will we ever get maximum or at least decent crowd participation. SSC not too bad… Aloha Stadium… it’s just horrible.

  215. djmitcho November 12, 2008 6:21 pm

I also noticed that organized ti leaf distribution doesn bode well for us as of late (see: OSU 2006 game and Sugar Bowl 2008).

I think get more “mana” if people bring their own and on their own initiative.

Hmmm… was there an organized ti-leaf distribution during the 2007 “WAC Championship Game” against BSU? I remember a bunch of Tsaikos had some but I can’t remember if people at the stadium were passing them out…

    duffer,

you’re funny, no worries about the beast and company, he’s only a true freshman getting his reps in. by the end of the season he’ll be in the Top 10 in Def Stats for the team….it’s all good.

He has played in all 11 games so far and started in 1 game, so he’s making his mark. Next year, look for some serious damage….

the othe day he had fun; he went with 3 other players, all Seniors, to an elementary school and read with them for about 2 hours, did the recess thing, juice and cookies….he really enjoyed being with the kids, and of course they all wanted autographs, haha.

the message, do your howework, listen to your parents, and get to college. now THAT, makes me a proud papa. when your kids can give back to others because they WANT to, that is when we have made progress.

    Hi Jamesie-
Nah…….not me. I’m more of a laid-back-one-with-physics-and-nature kinda gal. BTW, aren’t you a little too young to know Schoolhouse Rock? Bwahahahahaha.

Hi Princess Leila and Faye! Good to see the both of you back. Hope we get to see you guys before the season ends.

    FTed,
    from Portland State site

Does not arrive at Portland State until fall practice, but should be a favorite to earn a starting role on the offensive line.
    PREVIOUS TO PORTLAND STATE
Competed last season at El Camino Junior College… his team won the Mission Conference title… named first team All-Mission Conference as a left guard.
Spent one season at San Diego State where started as a true freshman… earned All-Mountain West Conference honors.

You can read between the lines….

  242. d1島 November 12, 2008 8:21 pm

    Florida Ted,
btw, I went back and watched the NaMaSU video with those Na Koa notes…very interesting!
    Thanks!

    d1,

    Thanks.

Wasn’t that a very good and enlightening re-cap? It opened my eyes and understanding quite a bit. UHWarrors is doing a great job with his summaries.

  244. Garret November 12, 2008 9:07 pm

UHWarriors always does an excellent job with his Na Koa reports…I’ve appreciated the reports for a long time. His memory is just amazing!

  245. FloridaTed November 12, 2008 9:10 pm

When I look over the body of work our coaches, especially BigMack, have done in such a short time, I must say that I’m quite impressed.

First the traumatic transition, the personnel losses, the high speed recruiting with three weeks left, then working with an offense that played like deer in the head lights, to now, getting close to the old, high powered offense we’re familiar with, all the way to possibly the best incoming recruiting class in UH history, is just darn encouraging.

I would no longer bet against McMackin and turning Hawaii into the Miami of the Pacific. It may take a few years, but if anybody can do it, it will be him.

  246. Garret November 12, 2008 9:10 pm

This teammate of Bess and Samson will be very, very motivated to do a great job on special teams. What an amazing turnaround for this guy! from working at Arby’s to playing for an NFL team who has a good shot at the playoffs!

Here’s the best way to explain safety Courtney Bryan’s post- NFL life after the Dolphins cut him in September: lost in transition.

The five NFL teams that worked him out weren’t biting because he had played too much to be stashed on a practice squad. Bryan couldn’t get registered at New Mexico State in time to finish his degree.

He eventually found a job at Arby’s working the night shift.

“Yes, Arby’s!” said Bryan, who is 11 credits shy of receiving his bachelors degree. “It’s hard out there. We’re in a recession.

Bill Parcells, the Dolphins’ vice president of football operations, called on Monday, asking him to rejoin the team. According to Bryan, it took him a couple of minutes to stop thinking it was one of his buddies joking around.

Bryan knows exactly what it’s going to take for him to extend his stay in South Florida.

“Special teams. Special teams. Coach told me. The GM told me. Player personnel [director] told me. Water person told me,” Bryan said. “Special teams, all out.”

  247. Jason November 12, 2008 9:16 pm

Yeah, uhwarriors is amazing. And yes, he does it all by memory. When he introduced himself to me the other week, I told him, “Take good notes!” He said he doesn’t take notes. I always pictured him typing away on a laptop in a corner somewhere. 😀

  248. FloridaTed November 12, 2008 9:18 pm

This weeks summary was his best to date.

  249. FloridaTed November 12, 2008 9:22 pm

The best part about it was that it surely puts to rest the stupid comments calling for Ron Lees head, that man knows the run and shoot as well as anybody, but first he had to turn deer into bucks, lol.

  250. FloridaTed November 12, 2008 9:24 pm

    Where’s everybody tonight?

  251. Garret November 12, 2008 9:25 pm

    FloridaTed,

My only worry about the coaches and UH is that the WAC will let them down. If the bottom of the WAC doesn’t improve, they could be forced to drop out of D-IA…and then the WAC is dead. UH will have an extremely difficult time as an independent, especially when the teams are in conference season and won’t want to travel to Hawaii. Right now UH doesn’t have to pay the travel costs of conference teams…but UH *does* have to pay travel costs for nonconference teams that visit Aloha Stadium. If UH had to do that for *all* teams that played in Hawaii, that would be a financial burden that would really hurt anything JD wants to do with the Athletic Department.

The WAC is also the biggest problem for recruiting for UH. Can you imagine how successful these coaches would be if UH was in the Pac 10? That is a big reason why some top players like Te’o go away to play…competitors want to compete against the best, and many WAC teams are definitely not in that category. Does playing against NMSU, Idaho, Utah State, and La Tech challenge the players to be their best?

The most impressive job of coaching to me is to get players motivated for teams that are considered weak. Players will always get up for the better teams, but time after time teams let down against “lesser” teams and pay for it. But fighting against boredom is NOT a way to help an athlete reach his peak.

This can be partially mitigated by scheduling tough nonconference teams…but maybe not as tough as this year! However, UH really needs the bottom of the WAC to improve. Losing BSU would also put a stigma on the WAC and really, really hurt UH’s program in the long run. This is why I’ve been bringing it up periodically, since it is important for the future of the program. I don’t see any strong leadership or bold moves from Karl Benson and the Presidents of the WAC (except for how BSU’s President wants to bail on the WAC). Something has to be done before BSU leaves or before one of the 3 programs in danger drops out of D-IA.

    Earlier I said Saturday.

  260. Jason November 12, 2008 9:42 pm

But yeah, I’m glad to see that uhwarriors’ recap really shows how knowledgeable Coach Ron is when it comes to the R&S. Now, there’s a difference between a knowledgeable teacher and a knowledgeable effective teacher (yeah, look at college professors, many are terrible teachers — but not Garret, of course!). If Coach Ron can’t teach these guys the offense, then maybe a change has to be made. But I don’t think that’s the case here. Even more so than in the report, if you were just there to watch him break down the film, you could really see how the offense is beginning to grow and become effective. Now it’s not about teaching the reads and stuff, it’s about refining the whole into a fined-tuned machine. And besides June Jones, I don’t think I’d trust anybody else to do that fine-tuning.

  261. madeinhawaii November 12, 2008 9:43 pm

UH offers Safety, Aaron Brown a scholarship.

    was that already mentioned?

  262. Mei Ling November 12, 2008 9:47 pm

Sssshhhhh! Garret, don’t tell anyone about that lost nuclear weapon… :))

  263. Garret November 12, 2008 10:00 pm

yeah, look at college professors, many are terrible teachers — but not Garret, of course!

    Jason,

I know a lot of college professors who were horrible teachers! I took classes from many of them and know of several really bad professors that were my colleagues at Santa Clara. Probably the worst teacher I knew was my PhD advisor–he just didn’t care about teaching his classes and he was always late and disorganized, actually forgetting to show up several times.

Thankfully, my teacher evaluations when I was a professor were very good–probably because I cared enough to put the effort into teaching. I averaged about a 4.5 out of 5 for evaluations, when the average was in the 3s and a 4.0 was considered a good average.

  264. Garret November 12, 2008 10:06 pm

    madeinhawaii,

I don’t think I saw the Aaron Brown offer posted before. He’s the junior that Mac referred to, right?

I also don’t think it was mentioned that both Tepa and Corey Nielsen were upgraded to 3 stars.

  265. jm2375 November 12, 2008 10:08 pm

The basketball team has no seniors, so do they have any scholarships to offer next year? Will they get back the one they lost due to the low APR? If so, will it be offered to a current player?

    Just curious….

  266. Garret November 12, 2008 10:08 pm

Oops, I just look up Aaron Brown and he’s a JC safety. I do remember Mac saying that he wasn’t going to recruit safeties, but I’m guessing they are looking for a JC safety who can play right away since so many are seniors now for the Warriors.

  267. Garret November 12, 2008 10:10 pm

I do hope for OL commits soon, I know that is a priority with the coaches and there are some definite needs now. There are a few good commits already (and LaCount coming for one season), but there seems to be a need for more OL in this class.

  268. Jason November 12, 2008 10:13 pm

Garret: Surprisingly enough, many of the math professors at UH aren’t that bad. Well, either that, or I’ve gotten all the good ones.

But I’ve had some bad professors in other departments. I told some of my friends, “Take this class — it takes care of this requirement, and the usual prof won’t be teaching it, as he will be doing Study Abroad.” 😀

  269. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc November 12, 2008 10:15 pm

Another one of those fun days when Murphy’s Law proves to be paramount.

Although things could have turned out really, really bad, right now I’m feeling pretty carpy with my arms and hands bandaged up to my elbows, a seriously-bruised left forearm & right thumb, and about 15 little spikes dispensing booger-killing stuff into my skins. There are some small wounds on my lower face and jaw, but they are expected to heal without permanent scarring or will be taken care by undergoing plastic surgery. That will take place as soon DrDoc can drive again in three months or so.

What happened is that our Hercules, our 9 lb, 16-year-old cat accidently got loose this morning so 90 lb Saturn The Dog decided to play with him. However, the two have very different definitions about play so I was forced to intervene and wound up being bit and clawed by both parties.

After taking Hercules to the vet where he is staying overnight and coming back home to clean up the ant-ridden pools of blood, I headed on in to the emergency room.

By the time I got through with the medical bureaucracy, I was drained emotionally. I tried to get home before falling over on my scratched nose, but I had to pull into the Safeway parking lot at the base of the Pali & Vineyard Blvd. where I fell into a dead sleep. About an hour later, a security guard knocked on the window and told me that homeless people are not allowed to park their cars in the lot. Guess that’s what happens when one drives a rusted-out 1988 Toyota!

The pain meds have kicked in, but I will not be in very good shape to deal with stuff around here for a few days because the wounds might re-open.

However, DrDoc is doing fine – his new gizmos and pipes are working well and he may even be released over the weekend. Hopefully, Hercules will be doing well enough to come home tomorrow.morning.

BACK ON SPORTS TOPIC: Men’s basketball kicks off this weekend and the Wahine’s regular volleyball season ends. However. letuspray that the latter will continue to play through mid-December when the NCAA tournament wraps up.

Oh, yes, and the last three games of the 2008 Hawai`i Winter Baseball season also wraps up this weekend with the “championship” being played Sunday afternoon. Wonder why it isn’t called Hawai`i Fall Baseball?

Time to go crash – me eebalz am sponning.

  282. FloridaTed November 12, 2008 10:51 pm

    Jason (260),

I think it’s a little premature to “only” trust JJ with fine tuning of the R’n’S, after all, he was JJ’s wide receivers coach and look what he did from 2000 to 2008. Shouldn’t we at least wait ’till next season to make a judgement like that? Jmho.

  283. FloridaTed November 12, 2008 10:55 pm

    WassupDoc,

You must step away from that dark cloud you’re under, fast! There is sun shine on the other side, good luck to you and prayers as always.

  284. Jason November 12, 2008 10:59 pm

FloridaTed: No, no, no. I guess I wasn’t very clear there — I meant the only two guys I would want doing that fine tuning would be June and Ron. Yeah, that’s what I meant. That those two guys know the offense so well that I wouldn’t want anybody else running the show. Well, maybe Rolo in a couple years; he needs to get better at seeing the whole picture (he said so himself).

  285. FloridaTed November 12, 2008 11:01 pm

    Jason,

    I meant 2005 to 2008.

  286. Jason November 12, 2008 11:03 pm

WassupDoc: Take things slowly, don’t overwork yourself, please! Relaxing and de-stressing is important too. I read a book on anxiety disorders by a Christian psychologist who made a good point — problems happen nowadays because we live high-speed lives, when 2,000 years ago, everyone lived at “camel speed.” So yeah, take things easy, all that stress isn’t good for you too.

  287. FloridaTed November 12, 2008 11:03 pm

    Jason,

O.k., that clear it up and now I can agree with you.

  288. Jason November 12, 2008 11:06 pm

    Sorry about that.

Anybody know how many years Fehoko has left?

  290. FloridaTed November 12, 2008 11:14 pm

Wassup Docs problem is that she’s an A-type personality who needs to live a B-type life, but probably won’t do it.

WassupDoc, relax more, cut back on a lot of your activities. Life happens, wether we pull it or push it. Life does what it wants and if we push to much, it pushes back.

I’ve learned to make piece with getting older and I’m much more relaxed as a result. Life will not slow down for us, no matter how busy we make ourselves, but we can slow ourselves down and it becomes more enjoyable.

Just something I’ve learned in my old age.

  291. madeinhawaii November 12, 2008 11:19 pm

In 1983 I threw away my appointment books.. been living the life of chaos since.

  292. madeinhawaii November 12, 2008 11:21 pm

Don’t we need to recruit a punter?

  293. Jason November 12, 2008 11:23 pm

If FloridaTed can figure it out from all the way in, well, Florida, then it’s pretty obvious. And that’s some good advice for all of us — especially me, since I’m a Type A personality too, and one with an anxiety disorder. In fact, Type A personalities are more prone to anxiety disorders. Now that I think about it, I’m thankful that I have this problem. Otherwise, I’d continue living a frantic life, not knowing how much danger all this stress puts me in. I still live a life that has its stresses, but I also know to relax and take a break every once in a while, too. Now, if only I’d start exercising and really take care of myself …

  294. Jason November 12, 2008 11:27 pm

Speaking of stress and health, it’s important to get a good night’s sleep. So I better head off now, I can’t sleep in like the past few days. No playing hooky when I have three classes on Thursday. 😀

    Good night, all.

  300. madeinhawaii November 12, 2008 11:46 pm

    Kekoa..

Nope.. gotta take the wifey artists on some gallery runs tomorrow. Just wanted to remind everyone else as the players would probably enjoy spectators for their scout bowl.

  301. FloridaTed November 12, 2008 11:56 pm

    Jason,

Most anxiety disorders are rooted in fear of lack of control. Control ‘freaks’ are most prone to this disorder, simply because there are always situation that can not be controlled, but they have the dibilitating need to control everything.

Simply fear is always the culprit of anxiety, the list of the various fears is to numerous to count.

Lose the fear, lose the anxiety. Most Psychiatrists and/or Therapists are too lazy to work on the fear factor, it’s a lot easier to prescribe pills, with a good commission.

Well, enough bloviating, time to hit the sack. Tomorrow I’ll take the wife to Jacksonville to see the daughter and grandkids for 5 days. That’ll get rid of a lot of anxieties.

Good night, gang, see you on Monday. I don’t know if my daughter has internet yet, she just moved into a new house.

  302. Kekoa November 12, 2008 11:56 pm

mih ~ If Pops is feeling up to it, I’ll bring him with me. It’s always a game time decision with him. When I see Coach Mack I’ll have to tell him before he asks where’s Pops? If I have to leave him home, I tell him he’s still on the mend, and he’s out for one more week. It’s tuff on 81 yr old WR’s ya know! Long road trips, 3 more home games…

  303. Kekoa November 12, 2008 11:59 pm

Good Nite FT, have a safe trip to JAX!

    School House Rock:

My niece has one of those Disney MixMax video players, so I put them all on an SD card for her. Now she watches School House Rock instead of High School Musical. Remember: “Three is a Magic Number.”

  307. madeinhawaii November 13, 2008 12:02 am

Take good care of your Pops… leave no regrets. It’s been 6 months since my dad parted and not a day goes by that I don’t miss him BUT I have no regrets as I spent as much time with him as I could afford to over the last 8 years. Funny, I thought I would miss my mother more (she passed two months before him) but in the end, I miss the old man most of all.

Wish I could take my dad to see the scout bowl, too. These are the special moments to grab hold of.

rare these days that a college punter is offered a scholie right off the bat. ever since the limitations were placed by the ncaa, why even kickers have to earn a scholie in their junior/senior seasons.

i am guessing that jesse williams will get a long look as an OT first. rugby playas usually have good feet.

i guess the coaches were correct. we will be done recruiting by the cincy game.

okay, seriously we need some running backs, one more qb, and a dtackle, jc type would be fine. um, mageo could be one and one more cb, jc kind.

we got three olinemen with a few walk ons. i am happy there. okay one more would be fine. the word was two jc tackles. i refuse to speculate.

with Lopati UH will be well stocked with LB and DE, Cal must be beaming! Brian Smith, your OL needs recruits, big time, to nurture…OL is a tough position to learn all the nuances that goes with the position so get with it, recruit some HS talent…

    we have;
    loeffler
    winchester-makaniai
    lacount
    w. fehoko – walkon
    tiwanak – walkon

some dlinemen who could cross over to the oline such as malepeai, manu, for example,

if we pick up just one more olineman i would say we would be in good hands. 4-5 olinemen per year should suffice.

  318. al November 13, 2008 2:24 am

oh and ralph…..don’t forget about the two jc olinemen that are waiting in the wings. i believe one of them has 3 yrs eligibility left. but, we are not telling….just yet,

    Good morning all!

The recruiting situation looks to be well in hand. Warriors should be fine starting next year.

    WDoc . . .

What the heck?!?!?! Dang. Time to slow down a bit and really take care of yourself. Good news about DDoc!
