Busy night in Manoa
For years, people have talked about the wish of having an on-campus football stadium in Manoa.
We’ll see a little bit of how the traffic conditions would be when the UH football, baseball and softball teams all stage events at the same time tonight. At least the usual Friday-evening traffic will be eased because of furloughs.
* * * * *
Tonight’s Warrior Bowl — actually, it’s just an offense vs. defense controlled scrimmage — will give fans debate material that should last through the summer. There are key battles at several starting and roster spots.
* * * * *
Some credit for the Rainbow Wahine softball team’s power surge should go to strength coach Kenny Esquivel. He puts the Rainbows through tough in-season workouts. The results are evident in the record books. Esquivel used to be a conditioning coach in the Florida Marlins’ minor-league system.

Too bad the Warrior volleyball season has ended. It was a fun team to watch. With Jonas Umlauft, Joshua Walker, Steven Hunt and Nejc Zemljak back next year, plus the addition of two highly regarded middles and an outside hitter, the Warriors should remain competitive. And the two MPSF finalists — Stanford and Cal State Northridge — both have to play in Hawaii next year. Let’s hope those matches are not on the same night as football, softball and baseball events.
Go Warriors!
Go Wahine!
Go Bows!
Foist!
Happy Furlough Friday!
Stanford was feeling the heat from this Warrior team.
It only gets stronger next year.
….make that foist to be 2nd! 😆
UH sports is on the rise!
Very exciting for Hawaii fans!
Go UH!

GOOD MORNING TSAIKOS!!!!!
ST
will you be back in time for the scrimmage tonight? and Women’s softball?
Morning Hawaii!
Good morning Tsai-kos! Happy Friday!
Hope to see you all at the softball game.
Bulla – ST and the TOTs are on their
drinkingway to Napa Valley. I think ST will be home Sunday. As for the other 3, well….Good morning all….A reminder that Sunday Kenny Patton starts his NFL Style Combine training at Radford. Great way for the athletes to get ready for combine and camp season. So many boys do combines in Jan/Feb then again in the summer but do nothing in between to improve. Kenny is teaching the kids the techniques and ways to improve. He and his coaches do such a great job, last year the results were very noticible. So if you know of any athletes who would like to take part, tell them to show up at Radford at 12:30 to register for the 1:00 start. It is open to all athletes, but they all must wear cleats. Many soccer players were out there last year. Its 4 consecutive Sundays, culminating with the 9th Annual PIAA Combine – the longest running combine in Hawaii.
Have a great day.
What time is the scrimmage tonight?
jm
mahalo for the info, and that’s what i thought, but i was just checking…since they went to Target to buy ‘lots of water’, we know that they’ll be adequately hydrated for this leg of the journey………hmmmmmm
i think koakane drinks a lot of water also……………hmmmmmmm, a correlation maybe or maybe no relation at all………….
UH Mens Volleyball is back.
The crowd at the Pepperdine playoff game made me think I was back in the year 1990-something.
From the last page regarding WAC Commissioner.
Doesn’t his tenure come at the behest of the conference school presidents? If so, all the blame cannot fall to the commissioner. Much of it, if not most should fall to the presidents for simply not caring. I would surmise that the presidents really do not put much stock into the athletic program (as most in the WAC are money losers) and may want the conference and athletic programs go away completely so they can concentrate on the academic side of the equation.
The others, like the Pac 10, Big 10 and the like, particularly the successful schools, see athletics as a cash register to both direct (ticket, television, merchandise, etc) and indirect (boosters, donors, etc.) income and as such see athletics as an integral part of their operation. They won’t let their commissioners sleep on the job or be reactive. Too many dollars at stake.
The WAC is a poor person’s step, bastard child that no one really wants, not even the commissioner or the schools presidents. The thinking is, ignore and it’ll simply go away.
Sorry, but perception at times speak more loudly than what reality may have us see. In this case, I believe from the comments, this is perceived as the situation with the WAC.
Good morning everyone!

Pomai – any relation to #19?

For folks on this blog who want to make sure that the WAC and UH are not left out of the expansion discussions, take the time to write down your argumentsconcerns/suggestions and send them off to Jim Donovan, Virginia Hinshaw, and the Board of Regents as well as to the WAC administration.
Be sure to send a similar letter, if appropriate, to the presidents and athletic directors of the other WAC schools.
Meanwhile, contact Neil Abercrombie & Mufi Hannemann to discuss the issues with them as well. Both candidates have expressed their support for UH sports & need to be updated on the issues.
UH’s future in intercollegiate sports is at stake here, but unless the public – especially passionately devoted fans such as the ones who hang out here – do not get organized & speak out, then other issues will take precedence.
Given the media situation here in Hawai`i, we have our work cut out for us, but it can be done. However, we must walk the walk – it takes more than expecting someone else to know what we want.
Back to work – am heading into town shortly before noon today and will be at the softball stadium a little after 5 pm. Don’t forget to bring your voices & a couple of bucks to drop into the jar..
only can dignify that statement with this answer … bwhaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
morning tsaiko country a very good day for warrior and wahine sport events. bring it on
Ok, who do I have to run over with my car to get to the softball stadium in decent time tonight? Good thing Ralph stay saving me a seat… err.. I mean a space.
Man it’s gonna be a cluster_____ down there at lower campus tonight!!! 😆
No joke eh? I happened to see the Wahine working out on conditioning stuff in the fall on Ching Field while waiting for a Wahine bball game. Lots of sprinting, medicine ball stuff, etc…
Good Morning Gangeez!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂
Top Toidy!
Go BOWS!
Go WAHINE!!
Go WARRIORS!!!
Have fun everyone!
BTW Gangeez, today is national Honesty Day. Honest. 😉

Re: #22 WAC Commie Benson
I kid alot about people in power places. It’s comical to a point. All of a sudden nobody is laughing anymore. One thing for sure, when we have had it with them…we do have the collective power to can ’em!
Benson has had his time in the sun. It is time for him to get out. The question I have is, where do we begin finding a final resting place for him?
is it just me?
okay…you (15 years old) just got your license and your pops surprises you and says, “son tomorrow we are going to buy you a sports car. a brand new sports car.”
you jump up and down and are unable to sleep all night.
the next morning you jump in the family car and to go buy your car with pops. he pulls into the used car lot and tells you, “son after thinking about it last night i’m sorry but i’ll have to renege on this car thing. they have an older model station wagon i want you to look at.”
>b>this is what they did to the warrior bowl.
DPK ~ Honest?…(fingers crossed behind your back?)
procastination, indecision, and constant changes of the mind has been the ruin of this regime.
if you say you gonna do this and that, then by gawd do it.
they need to understand this much, “under promise and over deliver.”
Do the Wahine SB play on Sunday?
al
Me and the kid flying in Sunday morning. Staying at Turtle Bay.
Duffer,
No softball on Sunday.
Does anyone have the info of the UH men’s vb recruits for next year. How tall are these two middles were getting?
ALOHA KAKAHIAKA!!

wie 1off the lead after 7 holes at 10 under, 3 under for the day so far. Parker withdrew after a horrendous 1st round. tiger may miss the cut.
Guud Morning Gangee…
First…Congratualtions and Mahalos to the Warrior Volleyball team for a fantastic season. Coach Wade is the Coach of the Year in my book. He took a team that he had no recruiting input on and molded them into a force in the MPSF. Great job and looking forward to next year with the returnees and the talented recruits you have coming in.
Second…Kazz…caught up with your post last night and thought it was a great analysis of things at Manoa…should write a column or think about a second career…According to Kazz…
Third…Duffer..now you got me thinking of Laulau!…Got Laulau on my mind…got Laulau on my mind….(can’t get that song out of my mind)
Fourth…Totally bummed out today…can’t get to Manoa for any of the events today…5:00 pm prep for fundraiser tomorrow…busy till about 8:00pm.
Saturday…5:00 am…cook breakfast for the peoples….cook chicken till about 12:00pm…..clean up…deliver….Try to get to Manoa by 3:00 pm..
Weather…possible heavy rain?….
Fifth..GO NA WAHINE!…GO WARRIORS!…GO BASEBOWS!
and now I go..back to the salt mines…Have fun today..Tsaikos..
#33 al ya just you. LOL everyone else should be at the softball game, right Kazz……
Wie is in the lead thru 9 -12
After seeing the tremendous improvement in the Men’s Volleyball program this season and the recent signing of two excellent recruits, its clear to see that Coach Wade is just getting started.
Tough loss yeterday for the Warrior Volleyballers, but the time (next season!) is coming when they are will be perrenial powers.
Thanks to Coach Wade and the guys for a terrific season.
Well, I’m a little surprised at Al’s #33, but he remembers to “dance with who brung you”. Warrior football. I suppose that after the Aloha stadium Warrior bowls, the tailgate prior, JD and the Hospitality room, etc… this year is bit toned down. Too bad it conflicts with the exciting Wahine softball, too.
…and Al, bad analogy for me… my dad gave me a ’62 Ford Falcon station wagon. He got the sports car… 😆
Buffoman:
your #22 – maybe the school presidents are to share in the blame for the WAC, but a good, proactive commissioner would have put together an Athletic plan for presentation to the presidents for their review/consideration at their annual meeting.
If I was the commissioner, I would ask for time to make the presentation and include your remarks about additional income to each school because of sports.
If the presidents say no, I would tender my resignation and move on rather than stay and wallow in misery, discontent, and usefullness!
NorthShoreFan,
No worry about the rain tomorrow. Just wear white tshirt.
Per Bulla:
“Wet TSAIKO tshirt contest tomorrow at Wahine Softball” if it rains. Tsaiko MEN ONLY can compete.
The winners are judged by how many fans leave the game and you get a bonus if one of the players attempts to knock you out with a line drive hit. 😆
PIAA DS,
The Warrior Bowl scrimmage is at 7 pm; autographs at 5:30 pm.
Good morning, gangeez!
See you at the softball game tonight! Don’t think I’ll be making it to Ching Field since I’m working on the donations. Get to campus early and check out the SB game before the FB scrimmage. Some of the FB players said they’d be at the SB game on Saturday to sit with us.
I’ve said it before regarding people catching on to softball this season:
“Oh you didn’t know??? You’re ___ BETTAH CALL SOMEBODY!!!!!!!
***TYPO***
I MEANT TO SAY:
“YOUR ___ BETTAH CALL SOMEBODY!!!”
NOT “you’re”.
I need lunch suggestions…
Spicy fried chicken plate or poke bowl at Foodland?
Al…..#33..ditto dat..
My question is …will they be able to give everyone a chance to show what they got?
My guess is that there is a list already and factoring in the recuits and preferred walk ons, tonight will be for those who made the team. then again, a lot can happen between now and the fall. Those who come back in the fall willl need to really get on the summer program and it looks like some leaders are starting to emerge already. Planning to get the team together and train.
All is guud and I look forward to the fall when we’ll see who made the commitment to get better.
Kazz…now you giving me some really baaaad hallucinations..wet t-shirt mens contest?….my patnah has seen me like dat and she ROTFL…said i look like on wet surrender flag!…you know..one wet t-shirt on one stick!.!@#@?!!
Anyhoo, can’t be at the game tonight so I need for the Tsaiko’s to post the happenings..no tv or radio…see if you was the Koa Wahine play by play we could have…a radio broadcast.
Congrats to Coach Wade & the VolleyBows for a terrific & very entertaining season. Tough loss, but they were more than competitve. With the current signings I expect the team to just “reload” & play at that amazing level again!
Hope Coach Wade has a line on some setter / libero types next? Wish Zemljak had a baby brother we could recruit.
dpk…make that three recruits for next year. 6’5″, 6’8″, 6’9″ high school dudes.
things are looking up.
pomai….#33 i guess it is just me.
okay, what is the official name of the softballers?
wahine warriors?
na wahine?
rainbow wahine?
i prefer “wicked wahine”….but, thats just me.
Al,
Tradition never hurt anyone. The softballers are “Rainbow Wahine” sir!!!
Or as their opponents have referred to them as, “ugh THEM!!!”
😆
Wahine softball = “8 RUN HITTA TITTAS” 😎
Jessica Iwata might have to explain this to some of her teammates though… 😉
Kazz,
Fried chicken…I think people were getting sick from poke/raw fish recently.
Looks like the donation box got a mention in the Wahine softball article today. Hope we get a big response.
Good luck to all the UH teams playing today!
Well, Ching Field does have BETTER turf. Now, if they allowed people to BBQ and drink on the sidelines and around the area then I think we’ve got a party going!!!! 😆
nsf…it was billed as the warrior bowl. however, it has evolved to just another practice.
Kazz:
“ugh them” conjures many “nasty/wicked” thoughts of what opponents are saying about our Rainbow Wahine SB team!
I believe that’s a good signal that opponents are afraid of the Wahines and know even before the game begins that they will ultimately lose!!
BLAST THEM DOGGIES or is it FROGGIES?
Slugger,
Now that you mention it, I know of two people that suffered some sort of mild food poisoning after eating sushi from Kozo and from Genki.
Nothing from poke though that I know of.
Still will go for da fried MANOK! (did I spell that right?)
kazzman…you are chock full of brilliant ideas. the university needs guys like you.
seriously.
protector – #59 – I asked ST once and he said GT may play libero next year. Wonder if they’ll change the rules and allow the liberos to serve? Glad to see that they’ve got some MBs coming in. Was getting a little worried about that position. Dyer is a little small for the position and Lofy is…., well, …
jus my opinion –
Cooke field now known as Ching Field due to the large donation by the Clarence Ching Foundation.
I wish UH had taken the position that Cooke Field name would be preserved, but the “complex” would be named the Clarence TC Ching complex.
What happens when another donor makes a “larger” donation to UH athletics? What are they going to do then? Every building has a “name” attached to it. What “honor” will be awarded to the larger donor?
I have a feeling that many significant donations will be made in the near future that may equal or be larger than the two recent multi-million dollar donations and there is only so much in lower campus that a name can be attached to. The parking structure is “un-named”, but who wants a parking structure named after them when UAHD receives ZERO deneros from all the parking revenue!!!!!!!!!!!
Re: Warrior Bowl
I’ll use the OL as an analogy to get my point across.
This year in particular, I like the set up. Here’s why. In years past we’ve had at least one OL that have started full time. With no full time starters back from last year, with the part time starters at different positions (with the exception of Pepa), and with the center having not started any games, the OL is very very young. We all know what a young and inexperienced OL can do. No protection means no time to throw the ball and the possibility of the QB to scramble and get hurt. What am I trying to say? The OL needs to start gelling together right now. Now with the old system, where the potential starters are with different teams, the OL can’t form the bond. Now, let’s say we have an OL mixed between the first and fourth stringers, what good does that do? I see the point of grading those who are on the cuffed. But, who says the coaches aren’t able to evaluate them individually?
oke bowl from Foodland – Oyster sauce poke! numba wun!
Ooops – Poke vice oke
Kazz–
Pritong (fried) Manok (chicken)
Laulau….poke….fried chicken….
Decisions, decisions….
Warrior Bowl….scrimmage….practice….
Derisions, derisions….
wie leads ai by 2 after 15. tiger missed cut shooting 2nd round 79.
Wie leads at -14 through 15, two ahead of Miyazato who is on the 14
Com on Michelle!
Your time is NOW and can be for a long time! Win this torunament for Hawaii!!!!!!!!!!!
al…#61….they have been called on occasions…Kazz’s Angels…
Jim Donovan:
Need to be pro active on positioning Hawaii with the PAC-10. Things will be changing and Hawaii has a lot to offer the PAC 10. If one only looks at the traveling cost then Hawaii will get no where with anyone. That being a common denominator problem, thinking beyond the box to handle that expense can be overcome.
Think and create, and sell the vision how Hawaii can benefit the PAC-10.
Thanks NorthShoreFan.
…Yeah that doesn’t sound creepy at all. 😯
post by Pomai on yesterday’s thread: #245
Was just thinking, I read on this blog all the time that the fans use the excuse of the teams not winning to not attend the games. Well now what is their excuse going to be for not going to the Na Wahine Koa softball games this weekend? Out of all the events going on they are the ones that are going to win the WAC an possibly go on to win the National Championship. So fellow TSAIKOS I challenge you to put your butts where your mouths are, show up an support the best dang team in the country. And for the others that cry about the cost, GOOD LORD IT’S FREE
Kazz..in honor of one of da hugest, not physically, Na Wahine fan..
Ralph..no foget to mention, we passing out free tickets…
“GOOD LORD IT’S FREE” Bulla did you hear the Lord’s message to show up at the softball game, oh, there’s a scrimmage, but I’m sure you’ll make time on Saturday from your busy schedule. I think the Lord will give the stink eye to one of his favorite disciples if doesn’t show up at the Na Wahine game on Saturday.
Wie has been between the 15 and 16 hole for a while. The threesome in front is playing poorly or slow. The threesome in back of her finished the 15th and waiting for the fairway to clear to tee off.
OT…I am fan of Tiger ..the golfer, and was curious to see how he would do following his problems. It seems this week is not one of his better events but I’m suprised at how he performed. NQ, can’t remember when he didn’t qualify.
Some athletes, have training programs to help them optimize performance. Some have superstitions, like wear the same socks, etc..Being that Tiger is now a “new person” in training, is the change of routine contributing to his performance? I hope not and hope he gets back on track..
$5.00 for parking. Shoot, that should be the minimum for attendance if UH ever charges for admission to softball. SIGN ME UP FOR SEASON TICKETS!!!
Ralph..where is the marshal…supposed to get them doggies moving..delay could “chill out” Wie.
Wie leads at -14 thru 17.
I am a fan of Happy Gilmore.
Wie finishes at -13 under, 2 stroke lead.
even the tabloid columnist blog mentions the donations collection at the softball game tonight. Lots of competition for fans tonight, but since its free, the well wishers from the football scrimmage can stop over, drop a donation, watch a few innings, then return to football.
I’m sure that’s foremost in her mind. 🙄
Wie with 8 birdies, two bogies, she bogeyed the last two holes.
I think Ralph was being sarcastic. I think…
What does she win this time? She already won that GIANT urn right?
Kazz that was A House’s statement
What? The urn thing or about “doing it for Hawaii”?
Is it just me or does all UH programs need to go above and beyond simply winning in their seasons to even draw the smallest of interest from the “casual” observer?
Some of us say, “just win and they will come”… Ummmm…. The 2007 regular season undefeated football team didn’t see a sell out or even a near sell out until the last three home games of the season… 🙄
Is it fair that the Rainbow Wahine softball team be expected to keep smashing home run records to draw some love from those that usually scoff at the sport? What if our record was the same next season, but we only register about half the amount of home runs as we did in the year 2010? Will there be all the media surrounding the players? Will columnists that usually don’t know where Bob Coolen’s office in the athletic complex bother to seek him out for an interview or two?
In my opinion…. Yes and no.
I dunno, is it human nature to gawk at the insane and the unique yes, but while most are busy looking for amazing feats and accomplishments, they should also take the time to appreciate what is in front of them.
I’m just peaking into the future, time to focus on the present and FRESNO STATE!! I’m bored and there is MUCH time to kill until 6pm and there is not enough sugar in the world to keep me alert right now…
OC 16 televising OIA championships at 5 pm and 7 pm tonight: softball
Speaking of ‘foremost’. When did Foremost Milk go out of business?
It’s so dumb because I only buy Meadow Gold anyway, but I drive past the old Foremost building everyday to work and only this morning I thought about it.
what urn?
Name tag alert: Those who ordered their Tsaiko name tags from LK, I’ve picked them up and will have them at the SB game this evening. Look for the shady/shaky guy on the third base side. 😎
Thanks for your generosity LK.
I dunno who’s playing but…
DVR is set!!!
The urn. I saw a recent pic of Wie with some giant urn-looking thing as her trophy.
I had a ton of jokes in my head, but they’d be in bad taste.
It’s the kind of smut you may read on Creed Bratton’s blog. 😆
Kazz the softball crowd is growing, not a full house, but an improvement over last season. I still say, win and do it consistently to be a contender in the WAC and be invited to the NCAA regional on a regular basis, the fans will come out. Or the sport need a pied piper, like Brooke Wilkins, Derek Tatsuno and Yuval Katz. Maybe Majam will fit that mold, time will tell.
Two earthquakes in the Bering Sea…
6.3 earthquake at 13:11 HST
6.0 earthquake at 13:16 HST
at 5 pm, Campbell with Manuma pitching, at 7 pm Mililani with Senas as the marquee player.
Too many earthquakes lately, all along the ring of fire-volcanic zone. I hope California is not on the horizon for a big one, so far, the U.S. has been quiet, or at least, not shaking.
Is there still and outside chance that the volleyball team can get an at-large bid to the final four? What if Stanford steam rolls Northridge really bad, for instance 30-20, 30-17, 30-15. Who gets the at-large bid?
1. Would it be the 2nd place regular season team, BYU?
2. Would it be Northridge, by virtue of making it to the MPSF championsip game?
3. Or, would it be Hawaii because they swept BYU in the regular season and UH split w/ Northridge in the regular season (on the road) and had the tie breaker between the two. Plus, Hawaii played Stanford tough in the semi-final which woud be a better showing than Northridge against Stanford?
I don’t think there is an automatic way to select the at-large team other can we can safely say that an MPSF team will get a bid. I think there is something said about playing well at this time of the year. It will be tough by the selection committee, but I’m still hoping and wishing. In either case, I don’t think BYU will get the bid because they lost head to head to Northridge. Northridge has the inside track because they had a better regular season than Hawaii, albiet by one game. If Hawaii played Northridge on a neutral court I would pick Hawaii. As it is, Hawaii swept Northridge on the road in the second game. Tough call. But, Hawaii always get the short end of the stick and that’s too bad because I think Hawaii showed that they were right there against Stanford. Play Stanford again, and I think Hawaii’s confidence has grown by leaps and bounds by how they showed last night. So, I hope Northridge gets beat real bad, so bad that the selection committee has to say, wait a minute we think Hawaii is the second best MPSF team right now and we’ll choose Hawaii for the at-large team.
surprising that FSU with a 33-14 record in out of the top 25. No respect for the WAC schedule.
#108 d1
That wasn’t an earthquake it was Majam in batting practice. LOL
BYU will leap frog UH, they were tied with Northridge going into the semi’s for 2nd in the MPSF
Bay-su-bo-ru tourney coming up on Maui
According to Stephen’s prep counterpart, Pearl City get the latest “flamethrower”, throwing 92-93 mph 😯
Looks like a great field with ILH Champions St. Louis, MPI and O-college making the trip over to the Valley Isle.
I’ve never been a proponent of subsidizing fellow Conference members traveling expenses…until NOW! With the kind of money that UH could stand to make as a member of the PAC-10, JD should bite the bullet & make the offer . Agree totally with ‘Idono’ on 81. Even if the University subsidized the cost, it would still come out ahead with the type of revenue the PAC-10 will make
Come on JD, don’t be like the “Fumbler”!
Wie score revised, -12 for the day, 8 birdies, 3 bogies, one stroke lead over Lincicome.
Mayweather or Mosley?
I could care less who wins but for the sake of Boxing, Mayweather would be the better opponent to Pacquiao. If Mayweather wins, not likely he will fight again this year since, recently, he now fights only once a year. Might see Pacquiao fight one more time before the big payout.
#116 protector Have to admit that would be one awesome home schedule.
Re: 116, I do KNOW that even if UH made the offer that PAC-10 might still turn the deal down simply because of the traveling distance along with other factors, but it can’t hurt to offer to attempt to keep Hawaii in their mind’s eye for the future.
Thanks LK & sj & myki!!
See you there!
Pomai on 119,
We could finally get those ‘chicken-hearted’ UCLA Bruins on the schedule. I don’t care if it’s here or there, as long as the team gets a chance at them. And you’re right about the home schedule. We’d be in “hog-heaven” and I’m not referring to the Tsaiko tail-gate, although…
Posted a comment on said blog awhile ago….wonder why it’s still “awaiting moderation”?
All it says is, “Great job Tsaikos!” 😎
Good one d1. But don’t hold your breath to see it. LOL
d1 – said tabloid columnist, according to ST, reads this blog more than ST does. 🙄 The
crackcomment I made the other day about a misspelling of a certain player’s name, caused said columnist to correct his online story, before ST had a chance to look at it, so ST didn’t know what I was talking about.tsigh…..
awaiting…..awaiting…
….asked if we can get pictures of those volunteers? 😆
more awaiting……
protector,
The trouble is that you cannot just subsidize the football travel costs…there are so many other sports that will lose a lot of money traveling to Hawaii (soccer, women’s basketball, baseball, tennis, etc.) and subsidizing travel for those money-losing sports would be hell on UH’s budget.
Even with all of that, the whole reason why the Pac-10 is expanding is to get more TV sets for their Pac-12 TV Network. Hawaii simply does not have the number of TV viewers like those that exists in states like Utah or Colorado. The TV network revenue is far, far more money than a travel subsidy.
UH’s only chance for the Pac-10 is for Colorado or Utah (and BYU) to turn down the Pac-10. The issue of travel subsidies won’t matter if Colorado and Utah say yes to the Pac-10. There is nothing that JD can do to make UH appear more attractive for the Pac-12 TV Network…
Of course, if Texas and Texas A&M say “yes” to the Pac-12, it won’t matter what Utah or Colorado think.
VOLCANOES, EARTHQUAKES, AND…. HOME RUNS!!!!!!! OH MY!!!!!!!!
MAYWEATHER OR MOSELY???
MY MONEY IS ON MAJAM. HOLLA!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(this post has been brought to you by a Grade A sugar rush sponsored by Sour Skittles and McDonalds’ Caramel Frappucinno – did I spell that right??? eh, I don’t care.)
JM,
Is that how this other columnist found out that UH had a softball program?
Anyone else had that sensation like you can feel your heart beating at the back of your throat???
WOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
PUT ME IN THE GAME COACH!!!!!! 😈
WOW! WITH THESE HAPPENINGS, VOLLEYBALL, SOFTBALL, BASKETBALL, BASEBALL, football, I LIKE MOVE BACK HOME N SUPPORT THIS NEW FOUNDATION OF SPORTS! YES!!
Aloha from LA!

I say, if these boxers are gonna get paid all this money…. ENHANCE YOURSELF!!!
Same goes for these MMA people too. All that kala for beating the TAR out of each other, you might as well get huge as heck doing it!!!!
GO FOR IT!!!!!!! Then maybe I’ll consider shelling out 60.00 for a PPV in which there is no guarantee on a return for my entertainment value. 1st round KO’s??? Championship contenders and champs throwing fights because their dad bet a lot against them??? C’MON!!!!!!!!!!!
….awaiting
The four biggest factors cited for a school to be attractive to a conference:
1. Distance from other conference members. Travel costs are a major problem for nonrevenue sports, we cannot just think of the costs for the football team to travel. Plus, travel distance results in students missing out of class time.
2. Success and draw of the football program. This is required for BCS AQ status and is a big factor in the reputation and earning power of a conference.
3. NCAA tournament success of the basketball program. A men’s basketball team can earn BCS bowl-type money with a good NCAA basketball tournament. Each win in the NCAA basketball tournament brings big money to a conference. Just getting to the tournament brings some money…but not nearly that much, especially considering that a conference is guaranteed an automatic spot anyway.
4. TV market size. This used to not be as much of a factor…until the SEC got a $3.1 billion TV contract and the Big 10 Network brought in $242 million last year.
I think that JD made a good hire in Gib, but UH has *nothing* in its recent past to argue on behalf of its men’s basketball program. The football team’s success in the first 2 years of the BCS evaluation period (2008-2011) has not been good either…especially considering that they go by computer rankings that take into account the strength of schedule for the WAC.
So, it is nice to talk about the Pac-10, but it isn’t going to happen. If the football and men’s basketball team were national powers, UH could possibly get into the Pac-10 *without* a travel subsidy. But the state of things now rule out the Pac-10.
What Karl Benson and JD need to be ready for is that after the first dominoes fall for the conference realignment, it is possible that the MWC will be seriously weakened and the WAC can take advantage of that. A strong push could significantly strengthen the WAC…or, JD will need to be ready to jump to a MWC/WAC combo conference if BSU sticks to its desire to join the MWC no matter who leaves there.
Worst-case scenario is that the WAC loses some teams and UH is stuck with the leftovers (SJSU, NMSU, Utah State, Idaho, La Tech). Best case scenario is that UH is with a strong combination of the MWC and WAC teams. We’ll know the result in less than 2 years.
From the UH Marketing Geniuses….
….and from the Fan-friendly folks who used to run No-Aloha Stadium….
Garret,
Hmmmm….
Strike Four!
Oh lord…
Is the neighborhood board in the area gonna complain about how much light will be coming off of lower campus today with all three open air venues using their stadium lighting????
Some Hawaii people can’t fill out a Census, but they sure can whine about the dumbest things….
🙄
D1,
I’ve seen the broken bottles and the trash in the parking garage and you know me, I’m all for fan enjoyment, but man even I have a limit…
People abuse it, they lose it. I too wouldn’t trust too many people if I didn’t “enforce” such policies as drinking or “tailgating” in a tight and enclosed concrete space that is not meant to be used as such.
Besides people like me trying to get from work to cheer on the Wahine may lose out on some parking stalls if some MOKES decide to use a few empty stalls as their “living room” with da green bottles and the akule poke.
AHHHHHHHH KAKAPEEPEEPOOPOOSHIRE!!!!
Ralph texts me that the parking garage is full at UH. Well still get students from upper campus occupying those spaces and should clear out around 5-ish…
Ralph reports there are about 50 people at the softball stadium right now.
That doesn’t sound like a lot, BUT for a game that will start in an hour and 15 minutes from now, it’s impressive. That’s the equivalent of 30,000 people already inside Aloha Stadium in time for the team to run out of the tunnel.
JM, Myki, SJ, Pomai, and Ralph already at the softball stadium as I type this…
(im gonna throw my monitor against the glass soon… 😡 )
Go SoftBows!
Go Warriors!
Go Tsai-kos!
Thanks for all the info about the mens vb recruits. I forgot about those two middles. Their height gives me a tingly feeling. Lets go Bow’s!
Congratulations to UH’s Nelson, Tennis coach. Named WAC Coach of the Year!
SoftBow updates?
One of Stephen’s bosses is outta dere…..
Hmmmm….I wonder if S. Lum mentioned that the other day while they were “standing around”?
wafan,

I hope Malcolm Lane can make it back. He has contributed a lot to UH and has NFL potential. Glad to know we have other talent though. Bradley looks on track to return and Ferd suggests Bright is ready for primetime. Pollard looks solid. Anybody know if Stutzman or Avery are ready? I guess tonite will say a lot.
Thanks in advance for any reports from the field!
Thanks for the Wahine updates and link!!!
Whoo-hoo Wahine!!!
I hope the donation container and the pups are both going to get stuffed.
Go Wahine!
With style!!!
Winnah Winnah Hawaiian Plate Dinnah!

Ran into this article on Rivals. The author of this article takes a look of the last 10 year’s 1000-yard rushers, 3000-yard passers and 1000-yard receivers.
Hawaii’s numbers-
1000-yard rushers-0
3000-yard passers-9
1000-yard receivers-13
Looking at the chart-
Florida State and North Carolina also with no 1000-yard rushers.
Only Texas Tech with 10 3000-yard passers over the last ten years tops Hawaii.
With 13 1000-yard receivers Hawaii tops the list.
Taking a look of Hawaii’s 2009 season.
Last year for Hawaii Salas had 1590 yards receiving.
Bradley was averaging 95 yards receiving per game, 6 games, before he got hurt.
The combined total rushing of Jackson (554) and Green (453) totaled a 1000.
The combined total passing of Alexander (1433/4 gms.) and Moniz (2396) at 3829. Alexander before getting hurt was on pace to throw for over 4000 yards.

My predictions-
Salas over a 1000 yards?
Yes.
Bradley with a 1000 yards?
Yes.
Pilares with a 1000 yards?
Yes.
Green with at least 600 yards rushing?
Yes.
Moniz with 4000 yards in the air?
Yes.
The average points /scoring per game in the upcoming season higher than 2009 average of 22.8?
Yes. Solve the red zone offensive woes and the team should average over 30 a game.
The average points/allowed per game in the upcoming season better than the 29.5 ppg. allowed in 2009?
Yes. With the secondary pretty solid. And the overall maturity of the defense they should be able to do better this year.
Is Hawaii poised to win seven games?
Sure. UH fixes a few things here and there. And they did with the shuffling of offensive and defensive coordinators. And approaches the season well conditioned and with added physicality to their practices and play during games then the team should do better than last year. . Plus along the way find a few spring chickens (hopefully offensive linemen) to complement the 13 returning starters in the lineup then I think it’s attainable that the team will win seven games. Had UH had both Bradley and Brown (and both returning this year) injury free last year don’t you think the team would have won seven game ? I think so.
I guess K5 blew it tonight. Basebows getting smacked. Softbows rockin. I would rather have watched the Softbows clinch the WAC title. Tonight’s baseball game is kind of boring.
papajoe2 #164,
No doubt. Baseball is a game I like to watch but watching this game is just depressing. Would have been better to watch the wahine win then watch the boys lose. After watching the Volleybows lose, I don’t think I can handle any more losing.
Congratulations to UH’s Nelson, Tennis coach. Named WAC Coach of the Year!
ATTENTION TSAIKOS!
NANCY COOLEN EXTENDS HER DEEPEST MAHALO ON BEHALF OF BOB COOLEN AND THE RAINBOW WAHINE TEAM FOR THE EFFORT IN THE CREATION OF THE DONATION BOX.
IT WAS VERY SUCCESSFUL!!! THAT’S ALL ILL SAY.
MAHALO TO WDOC, SLUGGER, JM, AND KOAKANE FOR WORKING THE BOX TONIGHT.
THE 2010 WAC SOFTBALL REG SEASON CHAMPS WERE HAPPY TONIGHT BUT REMAIN FOCUSED ON SWEEPING FRESNO STATE TOMORROW.
WHAT A NIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Howzit Tsai-kos!
Back from the softball game with a detour to pick up keed and an ice cream stop. 😀
Congrats to the Wahine. Great game. Watch out tomorrow. Majam is waaay overdue for some homeruns…
When I left, Slugger and the guy from UH Foundation were counting up the donations. I think we did really well. There was a check for $100 and quite a few $20 bills…
Congratulations to the Wahine Softball team for clinching the WAC tonight! Great game; two more tomorrow. Senior Night!
Mahalo to the Tsaikos for putting the work into tonight’s fund-raising! We received over $1,200 in donations. More to be collected tomorrow, hopefully with some football players sitting with us. Thanks to W-Doc, AnnodahDave, Koakane, jm2375, Ralph & the krew in the korner. Some of them are helping tomorrow, too. Thanks to Alvin Katahara, JD & John McNamara for helping us get this off the ground for the last three home games. These women deserve this kind of support. What a game!
Did I forget to mention that the RAINBOW WAHINE SOFTBALL TEAM ARE THE 2010 WAC SOFTBALL REGULAR SEASON CHAMPIONS????
Man…
As a fan, while we know the regular season has two more games left, it feels like we shared this journey this far. To my 3rd baseline bros, Ralph, Pomai, and HiFlyer what a journey so far huh? Through the wind and the rain and through the ups and downs, its been a hell of a ride. Through all the live stat headaches of following this team on the road… wow.
Kazz, how was the parking/traffic situation at UH tonite? Wanted to go but I can’t stand traffic so stayed home to watch Basebows on TV. Wish I went to the fields. I’m anxious to hear about the football too.
CHEEHOOOOOO!!!
GRRRRREAT NEWS FROM THE WSS! REALLY STIOKED THAT THE COLLECTION WENT WELL AND BETTER STILL….NA KOA WAHINE…2010 WAC CHAMPIONS!..
Stuck on the NorthShore but really stoked out!…
Hope tomorrows a good day also…can’t wait to get out there.
Early day tomorrow…long day….oyasuminasai…
sb stadium was packed, made it difficult to move around easily and I think that cut into our fundraising efforts. As Koakane suggested, need more than one bottle and need a bottle to be placed in each section.
Getting to the parking structure in the late afternoon wasn’t a problem, softball ended first, those that chose to leave had no problem exiting the quarry, fb and bb in progress. But the fb would have let out before the bb game ended, unless fans linger, the structure should empty without a problem. Then the bb crowd would start vacating with those who remained at the fb site to clean up-there were food booths, rainbowtique, and the field and track clean up crew. Come out to the sb on saturday, start at 4 pm, bring money for the donation pot 🙂
We sat in front of Kanani Pu’u-Warren’s grandmother, aunt & cousin tonight. Good fun!
Her family came in from the mainland or do they live here.
I think Katie Grimes’ ohana was behind where I was sitting near Wdoc DrDoc and Protector.
No doubt all in for senior night festivites tomorrow night.
BTW caught a little of the Warrior Bowl afterwards but had no idea what was happening by then.
Was nice to see lower campus truly alive tonight. Very festive.
it’s over, Nevada 8-4 win. UH now 21-21, 4-9 in WAC play.
Mililani beat Kapolei 8-2. they were down 2-0 going into the bottom of 5th, came back to tie in the 5th, went ahead with a 6 runs 6th inning.
OT today: Feds okay location of rail transit station near the airport flight way. Four unions endorse Mufi for Governor. My perception: bugga buying votes at taxpayers expense.
Will the new fuel tax impact tourism, well they got to fly in, and all the airlines need to pay the fuel tax as they fill up for the return flight back to whereever. We’ll they cut flights or just charge more per ticket and luggage to cover the tax?
like your site…..ralphie reminds me of cliff from ‘Cheers’, pretty funny, hope you’re not a mailman. dropping in for a vitals check
Met Kanani’s mom, dad & brother tonight. All of her family flew in from CA. Spoke with Brynne Buchanan’s father. Sending his suggestion re: hotel packages for player’s families coming to HNL to JD.
Saw Coach Tomey & wife in the stands, too! He looks like he dropped the stress. You can see it in his face. Welcome back, Coach!
Great job Tsaikos!
(had to get it posted somewhere! heheheh)
Congratulations to Darnell Arceneaux!
Let’s Go Saints!
d1 this is to inform you that after quite a bit of moderation we have decided not to post your comments. Please come back as often as you can. The management.
Also a big shout out to Koakane, who was only going to stay at the SB game till 7:00 then go to the warrior bowl, but he stayed for the whole game and helped slugger with the collections. But I did think I saw him put the muscle on a few people as they walked by the container without stopping.
Good job Gramps
Pomai,
😛
Slugger,
Nice to hear about the donations.
….still think the “dollars for doinks” stuck in the fence would be cool to see.
d1,
Trying to picture what you mean by “dollars for doinks” in the fence…
a dollar stuck in the fence for each homerun? Better to have a $100 bill for each homerun. Thanks to some generous fans tonight, we had two checks for $100 in the donation bin.
At least this wasn’t the “bucks for lolo” drive… I love Rap Replinger!
nytal!! Hasta manana.
Great job Slugger, Annodah Dave and all the Tsai-kos who helped out. $1200!!! :8
:8:
Dang it. 😎
Dang…
I CAN’T SLEEP!!!! 😆
D1,
I think the REAL lolo is on the other blog attempting to drop hints that his little BLURB about charging admission to softball is what started “fans” AKA TSAIKOS FROM THE WARRIORBEAT BLOG getting together to do the donation box.
Sheesh… 🙄
I wonder how many of the same 4-5 people that post there have actually done anything to help UH sports by going “outside da box”?
Ok so if I’m already having a hard time falling asleep I guess downing a bag of Ling Hi Mui Sour Patch Kids is NOT the solution right?
Happy Birthday to jm2375!!!
Are you going to be at the softball game today?
btw, did you guys see this in dave reardon’s blog?
http://blogs.starbulletin.com/quickreads/?p=817&cpage=1#comment-2179
mwahahahahaha.
does he know the donation box was initiated by some tsaikos?
mwhahahahaha.
Sorry about the delay in getting your comments up on my blog. They’re there now. And congratulations to those who participated in the effort to get donations for the softball team.
Oh, by the way, on the regrettable incorrect spelling of Nejc’s name: Cindy Luis pointed it out to me, and we corrected it as quickly as possible online. I do read this blog sometimes, but did not on that day.
Slugger,
if anyone needs to stay in a hotel in waikiki, mrs. bulla is the GM for 2 hotels and ALWAYS has ‘Warrior Specials’ for UHAD…..ask Pride, DPK and others who’ve stayed at her properties.
Reardon:
Don’t sweat the small stuff. I make mistakes all of the time. That’s the beauty of modern technology. Readers let you know about it immediately, and you can make the corrections. quickly. Sure beats the old days when it would take at least a day to make a correction.

For years, people have talked about the wish of having an on-campus football stadium in Manoa…..
Of course, if Texas and Texas A&M say “yes” to the Pac-12, it won’t matter what Utah or Colorado think.

I was so frustrated beacuse I couldn`t resolve this issue. Then I found your site in google and problem is solved. Thanks!
I really like the fresh perpective you did on the issue. Really was not expecting that when I started off studying. Your concepts were easy to understand that I wondered why I never looked at it before. Glad to know that there’s an individual out there that definitely understands what he’s discussing. Great job

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.
Hrmm that was weird, my comment got eaten. Anyway I wanted to say that it’s nice to know that someone else also mentioned this as I had trouble finding the same info elsewhere. This was the first place that told me the answer. Thanks. OH by the way, feel free to submit your blog to my free web directory. It will boost your visitors and backlinks!
Thanks for taking the time out to share this with the world. I really appreciate this. Keep doing what you’re doing. 🙂

Very cool site you have here! Thanks for sharing.
The amazing little blueberry has emerged as nature’s number one source of antioxidants among fresh fruits and vegetables.
Does anyone know if an industry exists for this in North America?
