Break? What break?
The Warriors were back on Cooke/Ching field this morning, participating in unsupervised workouts.
(Sorry, but my camera battery died, so I can’t upload the photos.)
* * *
Offensive lineman Clayton Laurel has a fractured right fibula. He will miss six weeks of training.
* * *
The Warriors won’t announce the 105-player roster for training camp for at least another month. But offensive lineman Steven Ikaika Rodenhurst and running back Kimo Alo have been told they will be invited to re-join the team Aug. 24, the first day of UH’s fall semester, when the roster limits are lifted.
* * *
A sight that might mean something: Lametrius Davis worked out with the cornerbacks.
A sight that means nothing: Inoke Funaki and Tuika Tufaga worked out with the linebackers.

Here’s the difference between karma and bachi.
Karma: Two years ago, in the midst of a budget crisis, a UH official received a bonus. A few days later, a foul ball struck the windshield of the official’s car.
Bachi: Your blog host wrote about that incident, making fun of the official’s bad fortune. Yesterday, a foul ball hit his car.
thanks for the updates, Stephen. Wow…am I first?
Tanks Ah!

aloha tanks,
long time no see, blessings to you and your ohana 🙂
ST
even if they don’t announce the 105 man roster, will the players get notified or are they left ‘hanging’ until further notice? doesn’t seem fair to them, does it?
haha,
gone for so long, now no one to play with………warriors……come out and playyyyy
Top 10?
Too bad about Clayton Laurel–I hope his recovery goes well.
Bulla,
I think that Mac said that the players would be notified this week during meetings with their position coaches. So, I don’t think they are going to be left hanging.
However, the official announcement might not be made for awhile because maybe some slots might be freed up due to academic or injury reasons. Warriors could be added to the fall camp roster to fill those slots before the official announcement comes out.
Most have been notified. Some are conditional. LIke, say, if a roster spot opens, they’ll be invited to training camp.
Good morning-ish everyone!
top 10!
I started posting on the old blog during my break and it was great that the new blog came out before I had to get back to work. Back to MATLAB…
having to cut 30+ guys, im assuming some veterans will not be getting an invite to fall camp…
ST — today’s blog title could apply to you. Aren’t we nearing that short time of year when you bring home your sleeping bag from the lower campus? 🙂
top 15
cheepono out
It will be interesting.
An article mentioning Jake Ingram just popped up. This guy was a long-snapper in the NFL and his son is now a long-snapper for the Giants.
yikes…..I guess even UH football players have cut backs and reductions
Back on Ching Field?
YEAH! YEAH! I LIKE DAT SIR!!!!
Top Twenny?
😉
Fingers crossed for Jett Jasper.
gussing there will be quite a few greyshirts.
Sheesh, Bulla!! Ha’ come no body wanted fo’ play, yeah??!! hahahaha…
Howzit! Nice to see you!
ST: “Yout blog host…” okay…sounds kinda’ like ‘stout’….hmmmm….or as in “ye’ old times….”
and your camera broke? Ask homey fo’ buy you a new one….

Isn’t Homey one of your seven dwarfs: Happy, Sneezy, Homey, Kazzy, Esme …
ST,
A foul ball from the softball stadium ALMOST hit my car when I was leaving. I had no clue why, the game was over but I stopped in time to see a large yellow/orange-ish object drop a foot in front of my car. It bounced up high enough for me to see it was a softball.
Maybe the Nevada team sensed the “cursing” I was screaming in my head directed towards them?
top ‘fity!’
i was hoping lametrius would end up at safety…oh well. gotta wait for aaron brown i guess.
sorry K-M
none of this for you.
Karma: At Fresno last year. No penalties on FSU and the B.S. “running into the kicker penalty” on us and the Fresno kicker chokes away the game for them. Their fans call us savages and the worst fans in college football. They put up a video of Colt Brennan getting knocked out at Aloha Stadium by one of their players to “hype” up the FSU home crowd. Then they lose their home game to us while they were ranked in the Top 25… SWEET!!!
Bachi: I was very much elated and amused at Notre Dame’s horrible 2007 season and well… we know how that ended up for them in 2008… 👿
Who’s happy and who has allergies?
Kazz:
Happy gotta be JJ (??) and da’ allergy one…hmmm….I’d have to say koakane….after seeing his red face by the time I got to the tgate, he either ate some of that “ooji” (homey’s favorite word) tripe stuff that homey brought or he had more to drink than he should have…
There’s this new official at UH who is, like, Mr. Prozac. He’s so happy. We were joking that we can’t imagine what he looks like on Christmas morning or when …
thirty-fourth lol
afternoon gang!
Stephen – #33 – is he like the enzyte bob guy?
Jason – congratulations!
so as President Bartlet would say – what’s next?
I got money on the latter. 🙂
chawan_cut – #29 went whoooosh right over my head 🙄
Dirty Commish is super stoked to see Hurricane Inoke at RB this coming season. However, would it be too much on his frame to put on like 10lbs of muscle to absorb some of the pounding he might be taking?
Dirty Commish also hopes the Leon If Loving You is Wrong I Don’t Wanna Be Wright-Jackson is 100% and can stay healthy this season. Would be a shame for such a highly touted player to end with a fizzle.
So that’s what happened to Laurel at the Warrior Bowl. Get well soon!
Strange to be talking about HF to a couple of people associated w/ NAU this morning. I had a great time meeting & talking to students today at the college fair. Even saw 2 of my nieces.
It’s been a while since we’ve heard to seen Jim Bolla’s name in the news and I heard a song on the radio last night that I haven’t heard in a while that reminded me of him.
No it’s not “Sledgehammer” from Peter Gabriel.
This song is called “Face Down” from Red Jumpsuit Apparatus:
Loa:
That “Bob” guy is funny.
from this morning…

congrats braddah kaiks.
represent us windward folk! auryte!
That explains my itchy ear…
loa,
that was a continuation from this morning’s comment (#257) from yesterday’s blog.
ST,
Since your article notes that Richie-Ann Titcomb can sing, you think they’ll have her do the National Anthem and Hawaii Pono I this Saturday for senior night?
As I recall they had basketball player Catherine Cho sing on her senior night.
about 4 hrs til game time, hope the basebows bring their sticks to the Les, 3 out of 4 is a requirement at home this weekend. a sweep would really be nice w/ some help from sac state and fsu
So discussions about the Bull Chit System (BCS) and a playoff are underway. Heard Boise State AD is in attendance as well as others to help out the little guys. Also, heard on ESPN some of the discussion matter of why this and why that, and basically what it comes down to is money like always. The rich want to get richer and the poor guys, well screw em? Anyway, I can kind of see a point they’re trying to make about a playoff system costing schools a lot of money by flying the team to wherever, etc… but still that’s crap. Boise State, Utah, and even us should have had a crack at the Championship game going undefeated during the regular season. I hope they get this resolved, got my fingers crossed…
See whoever is going to the baseball game tonight. I’ll be sitting in the usual seats
Saw John Estes at the box office today. I guess he’s going to baseball.
Re: Titcomb.
That’s a good idea. I’ll pass it along.
(throws a shaka to ST) dey u go!
I hope it works out. Her family did so much for the program and left a nice big impression in the form of a clubhouse for future Wahine to enjoy that it would be a nice “send-off”.
It was once said said that a black man would be president when pigs flew.
Well behold 100 days into his presidency…swine flu!!!
Great Afternoon All!
I guess everyone’s back to work today including yours truly….
…glad to read that the Warriors are back at it so diligently.
Bulla,
haha…heard that one earlier today 😆
Bulla,
Good form. Good form. 😆
Good luck to the Baseball Bows!
Any chance of an autograph session with the baseball team? Used to have one near the end of the season in years past.
Guess I’ll check w/the marketing folks at the stadium tomorrow.
GO BOWS!
Good luck to the BaseBows!!!
Go get ’em ‘Bows!
Midori, just go to stand by the dugout at the end of the game. The guys are really good at signing for everyone. I have to say, though, that I was surprised to see them signing BETWEEN games of a double header.
midori7,
Try sharing some Chocolate Pancakes; I’ll bet that would be good for more than a coupla ‘grafs
NAACP looking for Irwin Eastman!
Someone asked about info on Junior day at UH.
Read following by blueblood on last Saturday’s 1st annual Junior day at UH. Interesting comments especially on Coach Mac telling panel of players to be honest about the program and him at open forum Q&A with players parents.
blueblood wrote:
I had a chance to go as a guest with Clinton Wise from Kapolei, Class of 2010- (LB/FB) and believe it or not this 1st annual JR day was a great success in my opinion. Coach Mack and Coach Tuioti put on a great program for all Warrior hopefulls. These players that attended were selected for evaluation from UH coaches. In the beggining, they had guest speakers such as the AD, the Chancelor, the coaches, past alumni athletes, and business owners who were alumni players. They all promoted UH and why the best local products should stay home, and did a great job at that. Then they took the prospects into their perhaps future position coaches mtg rooms, while the parents stayed with a panel of current Warriors and had a open forum Q&A style. This panel was told by Coach Mack to be honest about the program and to be honest about him. I guess it was an opportunity for parents to ask the hard questions. Then prospects and parents did a tour of their facilities, and was told of the soon coming upgrades. Then parents and propects watched a highlight video of the program. Then finally had lunch with the coaches. Then finally the prospects and their parents met at the stadium and was led on the field to watch pre-game warm-ups, then lead to their seats before the Warrior Bowl started. All in all it was a great day because the UH staff including those in the background of the program, did a excellant job in being pro-active. Coach Mack and his staff was more than hospitible. Coach Macks emphasis was on graduation and how that is a must on his watch. Plus to at Manoa, and just by walking around you could see prospects already lining up UH as their first choice. I think several prospects were offered that morning, but don’t quote me on that. I overheard propects and their parents talking. We’ll just wait till UH makes that announcements, all I can say it was some LB’s from the Westside. Anyways I’m rambling, but the question was asked, so I tried to answer the best way.
off topic- a man beats another man to death by stomping on his head leading to traumatic brain damage and death and the verdict is a misdemeanor in the third degree- up to one year in prison. the victim urinated on suspects truck, so if someone gives another person the stink eye is it okay to beat him to death because he dissed your aura…
Great stuff 702 WN! Mahalo 🙂
Ralph,
…ask Irwin!
#2 reports that estes and co. are at nearly every baseball game.
i know that i have asked this on several occasions…..is kimo alo the brother of kamalani?
stevem.
here’s a promise. if you take peaches to see “jersey boys” aka the story of frankie valli and the four seasons, she’ll love you forever.
Kazz reports he often sees “#2” at most UH home games.
#2 must sit in the loge/mezzanine section on the first base section cuz I’ve never seen him at the games…
kazz….probably helping the coors light sales out.
then again I may not have ever seen #2, is he the son that attends the tsaiko tailgate?
knocking on JIM DONOVAN’s door- SMU’s A.D. made a bold move to save the department money, he cut staff, not the little guy earning minimal wage… staff losing jobs included Associate A.D. of Sales and Marketing, Assistant Director to Public Relations, Senior women’s Associate Director and Assistant Director…high salaried and lots of benefits means a lot more significant savings than not filing a secretary’s job or student clerical aide intern job….do we really need MMK as women’s A.D.-the only time she’s visible is senior night with Ariel Chun..
Oh schnap!!!!!! 😯
Ralph went there! 😆
Now ST is probably going to get a phone call or an e-mail now.
just got my WAC tourney ticket, Section A, row 14, seat 15…same section I’ve been seating in except i’m usually in row 12 or 13…overlooking home plate, great view, protected by the net, easy to see sideline to sideline and kind of quiet….
I was thinking about that. Isn’t Kamalani Alo a DB?
slow period, so off topic- the dude who confessed to be part of 9/11 was water boarded 183 before he confessed…I wonder if I could have made through one session of water boarding?
Just got my WAC Tourney package also!
Midlevel. JJ (end of first base line). Aisle seats 1 and 2.
Row 10. Slightly “obstructed” as they claim… There is that guard rail that the little kids like to sway on that is supposed to be kind of blocking our view, but who the heck can complain?
My sister in law posted this at the end of the previous thread, so I wanted to bring it forward….

Oh no, Ralph is sitting near us. We’re going to be subjected to pro-Raiders, anti-49ers talk the whole tournament. 😉
Water Boarding: The prisoner is bound to an inclined board, feet raised and head slightly below the feet. Cellophane is wrapped over the prisoner’s face and water is poured over him. Unavoidably, the gag reflex kicks in and a terrifying fear of drowning leads to almost instant pleas to bring the treatment to a halt.
===============
I dunno. I think I can handle it. 🙂
Kazz luckily you’re short enough to see the game from underneath the railing 🙂
That’s a damn good point! 😆
Howz RainbowCliff?
I miss dat braddah.
Hope all is well as it can be.
I’ve sat behind those guard rails. I don’t care for them, I try to watch around them.
not sure if this is timely enuf
Usually whenever Guards start “railing” against anyone, it’s a little too late too be looking beyond them 🙄
Jason,
shhhh…I tink we stay on the Niner end of the rows….
heheheh
Kazz i don’t think it is cellophane which blocks water, it’s a rag which keeps the face soaking wet, water up the nose, and water continuously being poured onto the face.
okay, next tailgate we’ll have a water boarding contest….my money is on koakane, we’ll use beer and keep on recycling the spilled beer from a bucket…

homey and KK would be a good match,we’ll need a big truck bed to get both of them home
If they pass out… we can put em in a loving embrace… tie them down onto a king-sized air mattress and let them float in heavenly bliss around the harbor.
koa mahu can guide them around Pearl
primarily senior citizens at the baseball game, tough time of the day to get to the ball game… I wonder if a 7 p.m start time wouldn’t draw a larger crowd…
eldredge has stated in the past that garcia might be one of the best if not the best shortstop at UH…but the dude already has 12+ errors to date…can’t remember Paul Mize’s stats regarding errors per season or Julio Vasquez’s.
we’ll know for sure on Sept. 5th!
7 p.m. on a friday night….friday night lights! traffic on the moanalua fwy for westbound drivers thru 6:30 pm on regular work days is tough, imagine the number of cars trying to get to the stadium…
Homey must have cotton in his ears, they’re not itching!

Re-Here’s what I think about Coach Mack’s decision of delaying, (for one month) publically, of announcing the players who made the 105-player roster for training camp.
Absolutely, I think this is the best decision, and it rates an A+… and I’m probably thinking it’s textbook on the collegiate level. Very thoughtful, classy and sensible.
Put yourselves in the shoes of the players that aren’t going to be invited back to training camp. These are the players Coach Mack is thinking about when he delays for one month of his announcement of who’s in and who’s out, IMO. The coaches having already made their decisions and the players not being invited back have already received the bad news, but why it’s not being announced to the public is of yet is great for the non returning player’s psyche–let me explain further.
Trimming the roster, the coach is resigned to doing one of two things. He could have dropped a bombshell two or three days after the spring scrimmage of announcing which players that were going to be invited back. Or he could have delayed a month of announcing his decision, which gives the player not invited back some self preservation, where they can absorb the shock, tell their friends and relatives that they’re not invited back and a period of time to heal their wounded ego and pride.
Of the former this what you’d expect from an NFL coach, where there isn’t any crawl space for empathy and sensitivity. This is understandable. For when it’s time in stream lining a roster everything is cut and dry, straightforward.
Of the later, which I applaud Coach Mack for doing by delaying his decision and announcement to the public. For there is some allowable crawl space, and where showing this sensitivity towards the players that aren’t going to make the roster it gives the deflated players some respect in how they cope with this grief.
Slamming the door, doing it with an exclamation point and announcing of who’s in and who’s out right away would have been ill conceived and it would have probably affected the returning players, too. Even the public would have picked up on this.
Years from now what comes to the player’s minds that weren’t invited training camp–is that the Coach made this transition with a lot of sensitivity towards them.
Ralph,
But imagine how great for me, Kekoa, koakane, uhfan808, northshorefan,….and you!
Cathedral City…isn’t that named after Schuler’s church?
but UHfan808 dresses up for work, she won’t have her game face on!
UHfan808 always has her game face on! 😉
Really though, ask any of the Tsaikos who were in Gainesville last year what they learned about the inconvenience of traffic and parking versus being a real fan!
Kramer’s doing the job, the hitter did well in getting the double on a decent pitch and a high chopper by the next batter to bring him home.
djmitcho making me hongree….
come back later.
d1 i don’t have a dmitcho post all day,so what are you responding to?
garcia has 33 K’s this season, one K for every 4.8 ab
got to check his on base percentage at the next at bat….need a lead off man to get on base. His BA isn’t all that high so hopefully he walks a lot
Ralph,
me and djmitcho always know when it’s time fo’ (tw)eat!
heheheh
Wahine basketball the upside, 85 applicants for the job…the downside, MMK chairs a committee that is a disconnect with the basketball coaching community…yes, vince is on it but he has been out of coaching and contact for 5 years….he’ll know the old timers but the top assistants on the mainland will be a reach for him and the rest of the selection staff….
Tech’s pitcher comes in with a losing record and a 7+ era and he handcuffs a weak hitting UH team. we got 3 innings to tie and win it all in the 10th….without vinnie’s error the game would have been 1-0 thru 6
Kramer’s doing good, lots of ground balls, and only 1 earned run against him…
d1 i think you and dmitcho are about the same size
Make up call!
Ralph,
Given your profession, you would be a good judge of that! 🙂
Ralph,
Stefan is showing why he’s their SO leader; he had 45 in 54 IP w/ 27 walks coming into this game.
5 runs in three innings, can do but guys like garcia, roquemore, montplasir, morford, and van dornum got to get on base and not be the automatic outs…garcia strikes out again, oh well, two more innings to go…garcia gets eldredges sombrero awards for 3Ks
Hiya.
Doris- it was a nice shot. Happy to vote for your sis!
I’m looking for info on the UH President candidates. We have 2 of the 3.
Here’s one:

“…Dr. Greenwood previously served with distinction as Chancellor of UC Santa Cruz, a position she held from July 1996 to April 2004. Major accomplishments as Chancellor include: launching the campus´ first professional school, the Jack Baskin School of Engineering; fostering the establishment of the NSF Center for Adaptive Optics with subsequent support from the Moore Foundation, increasing the number of academic programs by 52%, from 63 to 96, including a 41% increase in graduate programs; opening the first new residential colleges in the UC system in 30 years; hiring 250 new faculty members; raising morale, more than doubling extramural research support; constructing nearly one million assignable square feet in academic buildings for the arts, the sciences and engineering; establishing a UC Silicon Valley Center at Moffett Field and engaging with NASA Ames in developing the nation´s first NASA University Affiliated Research Center, the largest competitively awarded contract ($330 million) at the University of California up to that time. In addition, under her leadership the campus raised more in private donations than the previous total for the campus´ entire history.”

from the same article:
“…This is not the first time Greenwood has faced controversy. Some regents objected last year when she was hired as provost with a salary of $380,000 — nearly $100,000 more than her predecessor.
At the time, Dynes argued she needed the higher salary to cover the cost of buying a home near UC’s headquarters in downtown Oakland. Like other UC chancellors, Greenwood previously received free housing on campus.
In addition, her total compensation turned out to be higher than was publicly announced at the time, The Chronicle has learned. In addition to her salary, UC gave her a $125,000 relocation incentive to move the 70 miles from Santa Cruz to Oakland. That was in addition to $17,950 for temporary housing, $9,527 for moving expenses and a low-interest loan to buy a condo in Oakland. …”

make dat jus’ one plain Banana!

she is at the same university that brought us chancellor Hinshaw….good omen….smart women….it’s time a woman head UH….she has great credentials, with hinshaw they can be great fundraisers and lead UH to new heights in academia…

The third has not yet been named…

Thanks, Wreck! They worked hard.
Dang, Now it is called an “esme”? I haven’t been around for a while… I remember when it was “pulling a jojo”
tadd fujikawa shot 7 over 77 in 2nd round, t78 currently at 5 over total. im not sure about the cut, the tourney is still going on.
parker mclachlin shot 1 over 73 and t85.
dean wilson shot 5 over 77 and t145
tiger leads at 7 under 65
lpga is off this week and michelle wie next tourney is may 7 next week michelob ultra open
Wreck- a jojo is not showing up. An esme is a brief entrance, a post and then whoosh- disappearing!

Dr. Schuller, as far as I know, is not a bishop and the name cathedral may be just used to be a p.r. thing to make the church look important. (It is an impressive building in any event).
Garret
Mahalos for that item about Huntsville. I have relatives there who hosted me when UH played at Tuscaloosa a couple of years ago. In fact I was in Huntsville about six months ago. I just read the Hunstville Times on line and will be checking in with my relatives tomorrow.
Are my “WreckinEyes” deceiving me? Howzit my brother? It’s been a long while since we hoisted a few at Sam’s. I hope life has been good, and you can make it to the KK for Rob25 and her hubby.
Liz ~ Thanks for the good info.
lakesidegt — Thanks. If both you and Al recommend it, then I’ll try to see them if they are still in Vegas in September. Looks like Thursday 9/17 is the only night open for me.
We’ll get together for your cruise tips luncheon. jm2375’s first cruise is coming up in 5 weeks so will prioritize hers if she’s still interested. Maybe Long Time UH Fan, Tom Mui, and Myki & sj-macro will join us with their tips too… 😕
Tsai-ko cruiser sharing is at:

Liz ~ They got your number!
Welcome back, Wreck.
SteveM – I’m still interested. I’m thinking next Friday, but work is so up and down right now (mostly up), I’ll have to let you know later next week. I need to download and print the shore excursions – 53 pages!!! – and study them closely.
SteveM – if you can’t make it to the show this time, download the tunes or buy the cd. I have it on my Ipod; not quite the same, but a lot cheaper. And it should hold you over until you actually get to see the show.
jm2375 — OK, let me know and we’ll try to round up da cruisers via email. Bring the deck plan of the Pearl if you have it…so we can spot the neat hide-outs 🙂
ST- is your camera battery charged yet???
hint hint…
BTW- the karma and bachi story was a LOL moment!
lakesidegt: that show sounds really cool. wafan and I were discussing the possibility of catching a show. I get in on Friday at 10:30 AM and leave at 6:30 AM on Sunday… hmmmm….
lakesidegt — OK. I think Peaches has the songs in her iTunes library and I have a couple in my iTunes. But I was serious about d1shima and Russ probably doing a good rendition in karaoke… 🙂
Liz — don’t forget the 9/18 Friday night show. You’re on stage too and we get fed per las vegas’s specifications…
SteveM – as Jack Bauer says, copy that!!
SteveM- I’m prepared to have a total Tsai-ko LV immersion experience that weekend… no worry!
I agree with you about our crooners and singers. They are solid!
Wishing Jm a happy birthday.

JM2375: In Skagway, you might consider the White Pass railroad ride and in Ketchikan, you can just walk around the place or take the airplane ride to the Misty Fjords – the latter is a bit pricey but interesting and the floatplane does land in the Fjord itself. But the town is an easy walk though with a bunch of shops. Kids may enjoy it too. In Juneau, the Governor says that you can see Russia from there but most people will probably go to the Mendenhall Glacier and go out on the boat trip to spot whales.
It is easier and more convenient to go on tours through the ship BUT all of those places have tour people right by the dock and is much more inexpensive. Carry antivertigo medication – though the ship people can supply them and, if you suspect you need it, take one a couple hours before boarding the ship though the inland passage is fairly calm. And wash your hands frequently – they have dispensers at all the dinning areas!
jm2375- you are going to have soooo much fun! I’m looking forward to “the day” when I can cruise to AK. For now, $$ goes to photovoltaic system and season FB tix!
😉
Piper’s son – thanks for the tips!
Nitey nite and sweet Warrior dreams!
New post is up.
For guys mentioning former UH Rainbow Baseball shortstops, let’s not forget Eric”Toku” Tokunaga who could field, hit & lay down a clutch textbook bunt
(a lost art) with the best of them-he could also play second base as well. I had the privilege of taking some classes with he, Wade Mauricio, Curt “Tank” Watanabe & other players with great attitude & who were very humble as well.
I want only one thing from your end plz keep updating. I’m regular visitor of your
blog and its very helpful to me..
