Blog will change sites

The Warrior BeatΒ soon will be changing addresses.

The blog will be part of the Honolulu Star-Advertiser’s new site devoted solely to UH sports. I think the site will be called Warrior World, or something like that. (Hey, I don’t get all the memos.)

I’ll post the new address as soon as I learn it. But in case the current site doesn’t link to the new site, just know we’ll still be in business.

And, yes, I do mean “we.” Posters, lurkers, critics, loud critics, know-it-alls and wise guys, we’re all in this together. So get packing. I think moving day is Monday. (Please let Gigi know.)

* * * * *

I forgot to mention yesterday that Laney College cornerback Jamal Mayo received conditional acceptance into UH. It won’t be finalized until the paper work is reviewed and approved. But if things go according to plan, Mayo will be joining UH for training camp.

my fault, Tyrell is not going to Texas Tech. even worse, hes going to Fresno State!!!! UGH

  2. Stephen Tsai August 1, 2014 5:34 am

If I were top athlete wishing to attend a non-Pac-12 school in California, I would choose San Diego State. For many, many reasons.
But first, I would want an explanation on Rocky Long’s 3-3-5 defense.

  3. tom-warriornation August 1, 2014 5:43 am

Anyone goinging to the UH football game at San Diego St. on Oct. 18?

Happy Aloha Friday Gang. Big numbers on the blog with the smell of Pigskin in the air!
    Let’s Go Bows!

  6. whitey August 1, 2014 6:22 am

good morning tsaikos. packing and moving is not fun.

  7. haka August 1, 2014 6:38 am

    Nice to hear about Jamal.
Warrior World for all UH sports?
    What about the Wahine?
I guess they are Warriors too!
    Go Kane & Wahine Warriors!

  8. RainbowCliff August 1, 2014 6:41 am

Aloha and morning to you great folks of Hawaii Nei !

Moving and packing to another site leaves little to the imagination as hopefully smooth transition. Getting hot here in LA as I have “war ball” about to start with my young troopers.

Have a good time on the blog and remember aloha to all will bring smiling faces through all places.

It’s all about the paradise as I have my aloha print black and white shorts on with LA commenting the phrase “howz it” with Na Leo BLASTING out of my four door sedan !

In it to win it at the huki lau LA !

  9. tommui August 1, 2014 6:52 am

    GOOD MORNING HAWAII!

  10. Shoko August 1, 2014 6:57 am

Ah, Warrior World sounds like an amusement park. Fitting name change!

  11. Stephen Tsai August 1, 2014 7:05 am

Don’t know all the details about Warrior World. OK, I don’t know any details. They just said the blog is moving sites. Now I’m a simple person and suggested why not keep the site and just put the link on Warrior World. But, alas, the whole blog is moving. Apparently, that’s not easy because they have to move six years of comments, pictures and videos.

  12. chawan_cut August 1, 2014 7:36 am

i will miss this site. hope the format at the new home won’t be too drastically different.

  13. jm2375 August 1, 2014 7:36 am

    Good morning Tsaikos!

ST – #11 – only 6 years? What happened to the first 2 years? Are those 6 years spam-free?

  14. Manoa Mist August 1, 2014 7:38 am

Maybe you could call the blog something way cool like “Ferd’s Words.”

  15. Manoa Mist August 1, 2014 7:41 am

    Manoa Mist = wise guy.

  16. Boolakanaka August 1, 2014 7:47 am

Aloha all! A little R&R from boolaville, doing an ohana reunion of sorts in Steamboat Springs, CO, really nice even without snow. As for the tone of the board, here is my own personal guideline:

“Never speak to another person, in both tone and inflection, if I was not prepared to talk to that same individual, as I would in person.”

    Imua gents and wahines…

  17. Last Call August 1, 2014 7:48 am

I don’t log into anything but my bank accounts and e-mail I also don’t pay $ to read anything either so I hope the format says the same

  18. Shoko August 1, 2014 7:50 am

As long at entrance into Warrior World is free, I have no complaints,

  19. tom-warriornation August 1, 2014 7:52 am

ST: can you tell Chow to install a triple-option run package (like JJ did for goal-line situations) with maybe Ewaliko or Woolsey at QB–but also use it during the game; to keep the opposing defenses off balance.

That way, the other teams would have to take out valuable practice to defend this triple-option; as they would for Navy, Air Force, etc.

  20. 3-Prong August 1, 2014 7:54 am

ST: How about a Name the Blog Contest? Or is it a done deal?

  21. d1shima August 1, 2014 7:55 am

    Great Morning All!

    Moving?!?!

    Aughhhh!

Gotta find boxes, tape, hand truck….

    Oh…wait…NVM.

Hey! Maybe a good chance to re-visit the Blog Name? After all, Tsai’s Matters!

  22. d1shima August 1, 2014 7:56 am

    Howzit 3-Prong,

Nevah see your post about one contest but mebbe no need, eh? πŸ˜‰

  23. Last Call August 1, 2014 7:59 am

    # 10 Warrior World does sound like an amusement park.

  24. Jalansky August 1, 2014 8:01 am

Checking the small print under Major League transactions, which I never do:it was nice to see the announcement that the Twins have agreed to terms on a 2-year contract with Kurt Suzuki. 42 RBIs and counting. Keep up the good work, Kurt!

  25. hatakeman August 1, 2014 8:14 am

Jamal Mayo’s addition is much welcomed to a secondary lacking experienced depth. Aloha Jamal.

  26. Boolakanaka August 1, 2014 8:20 am

My own humble submission: ” no talk stink lolos”

  27. Andrew August 1, 2014 8:35 am

When does the blog switch over?

  28. Stephen Tsai August 1, 2014 8:36 am

    Last Call:
Not to worry. The format will be free.
    Still.
    I hope.

  29. Stephen Tsai August 1, 2014 8:37 am

    Andrew:
I’m not really sure, but I think Monday will be the “soft launch,” whatever that means.
We’re also going to be adding video to practice reports. Kim Yuen will be handling the videos; I think Billy Hull will do the voiceovers.

  30. Stephen Tsai August 1, 2014 8:39 am

    Jalansky:
It’s a pretty good deal. Two years, $6 million a season, with a team option for a third year, also at $6 mil, if he attains a certain number of at-bats. If this is his last big contract, it’s a nice sendoff.

  31. Rodney August 1, 2014 8:40 am

    Want observations or comments
    on high school scrim.Daren Hernandez
of Kapolei was on BC radio show.
    Played St. Louis yesterday.
    How did Millilani do?

  32. Stephen Tsai August 1, 2014 8:40 am

    Manoa Mist:
I love wise asses. They’re funny.
I think that was the point I was trying to make last night. Let’s just enjoy the ride. There are free passes at Warrior World. (OK, that is hokey-sounding name.)

  33. Stephen Tsai August 1, 2014 8:41 am

Darren Hernandez is a wise man.

  34. Stephen Tsai August 1, 2014 8:42 am

I’ve had some nice chats with Jordan Wynn and Kevin Clune the past couple of days. They’re fired up. They’re very competitive guys who want to win.

  35. d1shima August 1, 2014 8:49 am

    Rodney,

Maybe the Blog Host can find out how St. Louis is doing. He was covering the HC and DC during their last gigs.

  36. d1shima August 1, 2014 8:51 am

    …. 😳

make that the “gig before last” in the case of the HC (and the OC).

  37. jeezy33 August 1, 2014 9:14 am

    31. Heard 2 things from one of my friends who coaches. 2016 WR Drew Kobayashi (hopefully a future warrior) can flat out fly. And Kapolei O line was dominating St Louis D. Kalani Takase confirmed on his twitter account that Pesi Savea 6-7 310 (Boise Offer) and Viliamu Auwae 6-6 275 (BYU offer) were opening up holes.

  38. papajoe2 August 1, 2014 9:36 am

I could be wrong, but I think St. Louis will play Mililani at Mililani tomorrow night. No worry Crusader fans, I may take a while before they get the engines rolling.

  39. Ipu Man August 1, 2014 9:51 am

    Wonder Warriors.
    Wounded Warriors.
    His and Hers H…

  40. Boolakanaka August 1, 2014 9:51 am

Any word or intel, how much traction UH has on Solomon Matauia-who has same rather obvious Troy P-esque qualities?? Or is he only looking at top tier programs at this point??? The central Oahu schools (Campbell, Kaoplei, and Mililani) are loaded with D1 talent–very impressive.

  41. jimmy the lock August 1, 2014 10:00 am

    TGIF! Warrior World? Sounds corny.

    papajoe2, Mililani plays St.Loius on August 9.

  42. letsgowarriors August 1, 2014 10:01 am

did our coaches even bother to send out official written offers today?

  43. jimmy the lock August 1, 2014 10:05 am

Hey Boo, I no tink Campbell and Kapolei want to be known as Central Oahu Schools… πŸ˜† And I agree, the D1 talent is top notch.

And no forget gangees, this year the OIA will be divided as OIA D1 Red, OIA D1 Blue, and OIA D2.

  44. Turfwar August 1, 2014 10:05 am

Would love to see Amosa at Campbell give Matautia a chance at running back. He has speed, explosion, exceleration and moves aplenty. Would not be surprised if he turns out to be the gem of an outstanding local recruiting class. Played at Waipahu as a 5’9″ frosh and has just continued to develop physically over the last two years. Although verballed to Ore St. pretty sure everyone including the home team will continue to pursue his services. If Norm and Clune can turn this kid it would be huge.

  45. Boolakanaka August 1, 2014 10:12 am

My bad, I always thought the central ewa plains included these schools-do I have an antiquated geographical reference??

  46. d1shima August 1, 2014 10:23 am

    ppj2,

    This week? Next week?

Chance ’em! Go early! πŸ˜† 😈

  47. nutmegger August 1, 2014 10:24 am

Wasn’t there a Yul Brenner movie West World? Warrior World kind of sounds like that. Or like Kevin Costner’s bomb Water World.

  48. papajoe2 August 1, 2014 10:32 am

Good thing you guys let me know the day of ST. Louis-Mililani. I was supposed to make beef stew for consessions but forgot and thought I was too late.

  49. Z August 1, 2014 10:36 am

    What happened to Rainbows?

  50. jimmy the lock August 1, 2014 10:42 am

At least they safe from being called “townies”. Remember teasing my Aiea and Moanalua co-workers that they are townies.

    Rainbow World sounds…magical.

  51. A-House August 1, 2014 10:43 am

publically, UH always seems to be behind the 8th ball when it comes to local recruiting OR is my observation/comment so “off-base” that I need to zip da lip?

if Oregon St or Boise St or USC, etc. can see the talent – what is the UH coaching staff doing? too secret to be made public?

OR, are these “so-called D1 talent” already communicated to UH that they will NOT stay home as so many have done in the past? if so, will UH coaches take “hands-off” position or will they fight??? why not make it public knowledge???

other than “playing before family and friends” – what has UH to offer? coaching staff is young, lack experience, and not really battle tested

  52. SteveM August 1, 2014 10:45 am

    Good morning everyone!

Hmmmm…if we now have Warrior World, then perhaps “Tsai’s Matters” would work now. After all, it’s been on TV. πŸ™‚

    Good morning Tsaikos!

ST – #11 – only 6 years? What happened to the first 2 years? Are those 6 years spam-free?

It was not carried over when the blog switched to the current format. This will be the 2nd time the blog is moving house.

But the blog entries of the first 2 years is not lost. But with all the comments in 2007, it took up a lot of space… πŸ™„

Back then, in the blog formative years, there were 4 questions in my mind:

    1) Would Colt Brennan stay for his senior season?
    2) Would SteveM ever meet Brew808?
    3) Would DPK ever find his way into Al’s home for dinner?
    4) Will the Battlestar Galactica ever find earth?

    Well, 3 out 4 is not bad. But I digress… πŸ™‚

  56. cocobean August 1, 2014 11:10 am

Will Warrior World include women’s sports or are they going to have their own Na Wahine World?

  59. jimmy the lock August 1, 2014 11:23 am

Tsai’s Matters, as long as you don’t have reduced prenatal androgen production or some other related formative defects that can cause a microdingding. 😯

  60. Manoa Mist August 1, 2014 11:26 am

#32 Agree Mr. Tsai. People take stuff way too serious. More fun to mock the misadventures of all of us and laugh about it then to get all mad and get all twisted inside.

Speaking of sharks, I once ate shark’s fin soup during a visit to Hong Kong. Felt bad afterwards, but the soup was GOOD! Visited Chinatown in Yokohama last year and saw some shark’s fin manapua. I now know better. At least I think I do.

  62. mctruck August 1, 2014 12:16 pm

All kinds of, WALLY WORLDS abound.

  63. Stephen Tsai August 1, 2014 12:30 pm

I just realized we have something called Hawaii Prep World.
I really should pay more attention.

  64. gobows August 1, 2014 12:43 pm

    51

Almost all kids want the recruiting action. Hawaii coaches, past and present, are fools for making the decision an easy one by not pursuing all of the top talent. The kids got a really good excuse for going away…they weren’t recruited by hawaii. Coaches giving up on the fight…what kind of message is that…when it looks impossible, just quit.

  65. jimmy the lock August 1, 2014 12:59 pm

No need recruit, just sit back and wait for transfers. πŸ˜†

Keith Kirkwood could have been a great one. Hopefully he continues to play somewhere back home. Very high character guy. Parents and grandparents should be very proud of him.

  102. NYUHTXSK August 2, 2014 3:46 am

That time of year again. Subscribe or not.

  103. Shoko August 2, 2014 7:18 am

    2. Just noticed your post. Not sure if that’s in reference to Josh Shirley but he would fit nicely into Long’s 3-3-5 as an outside linebacker. He’s a very good edge rusher that can patrol the flats, blitz, stop the run or even cover receivers or tight ends in man coverage.

Would be a good get for Clune but it sounds like he wants to play somewhere in southern California. Haven’t heard anything except rumors from the Aztecs and Bruins forum.

  104. Shoko August 2, 2014 7:20 am

Anyway, have a great weekend, folks!
