Basketball recruiting update
Here’s info from our basketball writer, Dayton Morinaga:
The University of Hawai’i men’s basketball team is no longer in the running
for two recruits.
• Rafael Crescencio, an athletic 6-foot-9 forward at Arizona Western College,
made a commitment to play for the University of San Diego. Crescencio had narrowed his choices to UH and USD. He averaged 13.1 points and 7.3 rebounds per game as a sophomore at Arizona Western this past season.
• Kevin Menner, a high-scoring 6-5 forward at Saddleback (Calif.) College, is no longer being recruited by Hawai’i. He averaged 19.3 and 7.0 rebounds per game this past season.
The UH coaches are now looking at other possibilities, and still want to
fill two more scholarships before May 20.

Defensive end Victor Clore is a candidate for the last remaining scholarship. He works nights as a bouncer, sometimes getting only 2 hours of sleep before heaing to UH for practice or workouts. He supports himself through that job and financial aid. “You can’t feed yourself on hopes and dreams,” Clore said.

The WAC Football Media Preview is July 28-29 in Salt Lake City. UH is allowed to bring up to two players. John Estes will be one. Any suggestions for the other? Greg Alexander? Fetaiagogo Fonoti? Brashton Satele or Malcolm Lane?

Too bad about those basketball recruits.
Pukalani 1st
Correction…Pukalani 2nd
I was going to post this article on David Veikune on the old blog when I saw the new one was up.
This Colorado paper suggests Denver take Veikune in the 3rd round. Denver is switching to a 3-4 and needs outside LBs to rush the passer, and they have 2 draft picks in the 3rd round, so this is a definite possibility.
Most of the mock drafts only show Veikune getting drafted out of the University of Hawaii.
Until this year, Samson had the most interviews scheduled with NFL teams at the combine for any of Leo Goeas’ clients.
parker mclachlin is 1 over thru 3 currently t24
dean wilson 2 over 74 and t109
michelle wie 1 under thru 16 currently 5th
Veikune is a beast.
I like what NMSU is adding to their helmet. I’ve tested some stuff at White Sands and the people there deserve this honor.
If you click on my name, you will see a 2010 mock NFL draft that shows John Estes going in the fourth round and Blaze Soares going in the sixth round. We Hawaii fans are simply crossing our fingers hoping that Blaze will simply be able to play in 2009 much less excel.
David Veikune deserves all of the attention he’s getting from the NFL and the media. I’ll miss seeing his relentless effort on behalf of the Warriors…but he’ll do well in the NFL and UH has recruited a lot of candidates for DE that I’m sure are hungry for the playing time.
Pride,
If Blaze is healthy all season, I think he’ll do a great job for the Warriors and go higher than the 6th round. However, that is a big if.
The estimate for John Estes seems reasonable. That is fairly high for a center in the draft, but Estes has done very well for the Warriors. If the OL does its job this year, his draft stock will rise.
Tsai, am I mistaken by saying that John Fonoti is a beast also? I watch him play and I think beast, but then I don’t see any post-season honors, or pre-season hype. I am not an expert and my eyes are no longer as sharp as they used to be. I’m wondering if perhaps I am not seeing things as they really are.
wat about baba rego? he works hard and is getting a civil engineering degree too!
Wisconsin violated the quiet period for recruiting this past year. One of the recruits that they visited against the rules may play against the Warriors this season because the NCAA has decided to allow the player to play for Wisconsin despite the violation.
So, the penalty for violating the quiet period is an “admonishment” to the coach. No penalty to the school, no loss of the recruit, nothing! You can bet that those coaches were visiting with high-priority recruits…and one of them will probably play at Aloha Stadium this year.
This recruit got a home visit from Wisconsin’s recruiting coordinator–you think he didn’t know it was a quiet period? Their recruiting coordinator?
Dirty Commish thinks Veikune could be a hellraiser as an OLB in a 3-4, much like Demarcus Ware of the Cowboys. Dirty Commish was hoping Travis Laboy would have the same kind of success but that injury demon keeps popping its ugly head.
When teams switch to a nickel with 4 down linemen Veikune can also line up as DE again and go QB hunting.
Dirty Commish also highly recommends “Eastbound and Down” on HBO. Quite possibly the BEST sports related show on TV. Ever.
Kenny Powers also has a Twitter. Can’t put the link here because it has a naughty word in it. But Google: “kenny powers twitter feed” and try not to laugh out loud. Very NSFW language. So be warned.
I love draft day. Ever see the episode on SportsNight when Dana gets pumped up about it? She even prints out T-shirts.
It’s like election night. I love all of the analysis.
Only question is: where was that during the season?
Pride,
I think that John Fonoti is a beast also, but the NFL is focused on Veikune now. He’ll get recognition and attention focused on him next year, since they will need to evaluate him then for the draft.
interesting about Menner. I wonder if someone better has fallen under the radar and the coaches are tired of Menner’s delays to commit to us. I hope we have a stud to bring in. I dont think Crecencio was a big loss
bhf2,
Your niece, Kapua, got elected Vice President of the HAPA Hawaiian club at NAU.
Hope the basketball team can pickup two other players to make a difference next season.
Sounds like Clore could use that schollie!
So Nash pisked up two guards, and we have two more schollies to spare. What do the expert Tsai-kos believe should be done with the last two scholarships. What do we need? One more scorer. A long range shooter? A big body? A hybrid? What do you think?
Good Morning, Tsai-ko Ohana!
Big Mahalo to all of you who sent prayers out to my uncle and da’ ohana.
He passed away this morning and is now reuinited with his wife, his mom and dad, his 2 brothers, and sister.
Life can’t get any better than that, huh?
You guys and gals are awesome!
Sympathies to Colomaohana and family on the passing of your Uncle.
Good morning Tsai-kos!!
Hope you all are staying dry.
Kekoa – forgot to mention it last night, but if you feel like venturing into Kailua town, stop at Agnes’ Portuguese Bakery.
From last post – don’t Homey’s numbers start with 1-966? bwahahahaha!
ST: Dirty Commish misses SportsNight. It was a very witty, sharp and well written show. Felicity Huffman AND William H. Macy. How could it go wrong? Another example of ignorance and shortsightedness by TV Executives that somehow allow “The Hills” to stay on the air.
Dirty Commish can’t get pumped up for draft day this year since beloved Cowboys do not have a first round pick. But that might not be a bad thing since Dirty Commish doesn’t think they have a glaring need at any particular spot for a pricey 1st rounder.
Still think the best thing for the basketball program is for Nash to fail this year so we can bring in someone new.
I think we need to get the NFL channel on basic cable.
Good morning Tsaikos….busy day again but hope to see all of you tomorrow….crossing my fingers…LOL
Condolences to the Colomaohana family….uncle is in a better place now….
san diego
vs
hawaii
hmmm…..
depends, as long as nash implements riley wallace’s flex offense, past success revolved around shooting the ball. savovich, a smith, english, mcintyre, kuebler, ruffin, … the flex offense runs into problems with high pressure defense that anticipate where the ball will go, and if nash’s team cannot take care of the ball handling and passing, they will be exploited into many turnovers, esp. with the wrong personnel touching the basketball. nash only knows this offense so i dont expect him to change much. shooters, shooters, shooters, that is what nash should recruit, black or white, big or small, skinny or fat, fast or slow, main thing is that they can light it up from the outside, that is my hope.
Condolences to the Colomaohana family
Pride,
Now I understand your point–as a returning starter who has put together several excellent seasons for a D that lost so many other starters, I agree that John Fonoti should be getting more preseason recognition. Is the UH SID office actively promoting any UH players? I don’t know if the recognition Estes is getting can be attributed to the SID office…
Colomaohana,
Deepest condolences to your Ohana.
Aloha from the tropical islands of Hawaii on the coconut wireless in digital paradise….
Good Morning TsaiKo Ohana….
Condolences to Colomaohana and the rest of their family…
Back to the Future(of Lurking)
parker mclachlin is even thru 6 and t14 at 5 under total
michelle wie finishes 2 under 71 and t3 currently at 9 under total
Regarding Bball recruits UH needs a real shooting guard and the last scholie should go to the best player regardless of position that they can land. I think a healthy Balocka, Amis and Adams can be effective guarding the post and can contribute some scoring punch. We know what we are getting out of Flemings and the two PGs look like scorers so we just need someone to set up at the 2 guard.
Reminder: He is now known as Fetaiagogo Fonoti.
(feh-tye-ah-ngo-ngo). Thanks Stephen Tsai.
I think The Noke should rep the team at the WAC Media Day in SLC.
He is the spirit of this team and he is The senior leader.
WAC Football Media Preview:
One from offense: Estes
One from defense: Fonoti
Pride:
Kekaula is all stressed out because he doesn’t know how to pronounce the name. I laughed because I have it on cut-and-paste.
ST:
I vote for Brashton or Fonti so UH has a player from each side of the ball.
By the way, you know the coaches read this, so your preferences actually matter.
Colomaohana:
A-House family extends our deepest sympathy to you and your entire family for the loss of your Uncle.
Pride:
I’m with you on this and many more other things that UH SID office failed to do to support all athletes competing for “honors” as they represent UH.
I’ve said it before and repeat it that I am not impressed with the product(s) produced by UH SID or the failure to produce to enhance UH athletes. Especially the prior SID.
Colomaohana…
Condolences to your family for the loss of your uncle. You are so right in that he is in a much better place now and reunited with many loved ones.
Tsaikos are indeed a wonderful and awesome bunch! So are mommies!!
Man, too bad about those hopeful recruits. However u don’t know how they would turn out if you have not seen them, that’s their loss they didn’t want to be a Warrior. Whomever the coaches are eyeing now could be even better!!!
My suggestion for WAC football media day, since Estes is going, send Alexander too. These two players are going to make or break this season, i think. Defense looks like there are some very good playmakers out there.
Can’t wait!!!!
Pride:
I think one sharp shooting 6’7″-6’9″ type forward and one young ‘big man” for center.
Maybe, there is another Michael Jordan type hiding somewhere waiting for Coach Nash to find him.
Warmest HUGS to the Colomaohana. Prayers for the progress of Uncle’s soul.
Inoke should go to the WC Football media if we want ATTENTION. Lotsa questions will be asked, lotsa curiosity about his position change.
If we want to be mysterious and low key but personable, with one O and one D, send Estes with Rocky Savaiigaea.
HiHo!
WC=WAC
What a typo… bwahahaha!
The coaches read this? Uh oh.
Dirty Commish votes for Brashton Satele as the other rep. I have a feeling he’s gonna be a major player in this defense and I want the other schools to know exactly who laid out their QB.
Brashton “Boom Boom” Satele in the house!
If I am wrong, and many times I am, I have not seen any UH coach, past and present, asking everyone to help out in identifying high school or JC athletes who may contribute to UH sports. I see nothing wrong with this position. Is there a NCAA rule against this?
Being where we are located and in the conferences we belong to makes it tougher to find recruits and this will continue until UH becomes so well known that athletes will be contacting UH for the opportunity to play. I know that football players have and continue to send tapes for coaches to review. U-tube is very popular for recruits.
I kind of would like to see Inoke go to the WAC Football Media Preview. Let them (all the other WAC teams) worry about the “Noke” and it’s options. Build it up.. sell it… and decide what to do with it come game time.
I say the 2nd should go to someone on defense….Rocky or Brash.
Colomaohana – my condolences to you and your ohana
mih,
I vote for Inoke too!
morning gang!
hmmmm, thats a tough one, Fetaiagogo, Brashton, Malcom, Inoke, Rocky …… all well deserving
condolences to colomaohana in the lost of her uncle and greatest sympathies extended to all of the coloma ohana.
Fetaiagogo – can’t wait to hear the espn guys pronounce it, they should get a lot of practice with all the tackles he’s going to make
UH needs outside shooters who can create space to get the shot off to score. Flemings doesn’t have an outside shot, totally inconsistent. he needs more strength to play the 4 spot, gets knock around a lot in the paint. UH needs a big body post at the 5 spot, we need rebounds and defense…a taller guard for the 2 spot who is a good shooter from the outside or another power forward.
Loa…
I can hear the cheering now…
Go Go! Fetaiagogo.. Go go! Fetaiagogo GO!
On a lighter note- Tombo Ahi’s Maru the Cat post is one of many great vids for cat-lovers!
http://tinyurl.com/d8qzjv
Whoosh!
Why the name change for Fonoti?
bstunna2002 – That’s his name.
Colomaohana,
Deepest sympathy on your uncle’s passing.
So that’s his given name and John was his American name?
Shame on Kekaula.
Kekaula should take the lead on the pronunciation of Fonoti’s first name. Fetaiagogo, Fetaiagogo, Fetaiagogo, Fetaiagogo, Fetaiagogo. (feh-tye-ah-ngo-ngo). I’m actually saying it wrong. I think it should be (feh-tye-uh-ngo-ngo)
Speaking of “bad mouthing the SID”, there seems to be very little “marketing” for the scrimmage tomorrow or am I not reading the sports pages correctly.
Is this part of his territory? or, does this fall only to Coach Mack and his staff? Only mention on TV is during the sports segment during the news cast.
Wonder what the turn out will be this year compared to last year?
Also, except for Ferd’s article this morning, I was not fully aware that UH was hosting 3 WAC tournaments in April and May. I knew about baseball, but not for tennis and the water polo.
What’s up with dat?
I agree with you A-House. Could be the new trend. Consequences of the present economy.
tough pick betw Fonoti and Inoke.
I like John cuz he was a high value assest that had a brilliant true-frosh year that many compared to Niko Noga.
John stumbled, fell academically, stayed out a year, came back, was frustrated with injury, rebounded, put-it-all together and now is peaking in his senior year.
Classic example of peaks n valleys, but glued together with resilience and talent.
Inoke is an example of outstanding citizenship and has been a quintessential role-model–church missionary, faithful back-up, consumate team player, unselfish, community-participant and a friend always available to teammates for fellowship.
Condolences to the Coloma ‘Ohana, prayers for uncle.
Fonoti or Funaki. That’s a tough one. Too bad they can’t take three guys up.
parker mclachlin is 1 under thru 16, 6 under total, and t13
jerry kelly currently leads zurich classic at 10 under
michelle wie is currently t6 place at 9 under
lorena ochoa currently leads corona championship at 16 under thru 16
dean wilson stands at 2 over total and projected cut is 1 under.
i vote funaki, team player
A-House: On the other hand, the past few Thursday editions of Ka Leo have had prominent coverage of those sporting events. This week was tennis, last week was water polo.
My vote is for Fonoti, so we can have a player from both sides of the ball. I’d like Inoke too, but it makes sense to market Estes, as he’s a legit All-America guy.
Coach Dwane Walker, NMSU’s newly installed head coach has the marking of a great leader and career–he exudes with the right stuff and a wonderful man to swap-talk.
Dont forget, Walker was hired by McKinley Boston, NMSAD.
Boston is also on the rise and a brilliant administrator who thinks on-the-run.
He built the aggies basketball program in a wink by hiring Reggie Theus.
He has down-sized the aggies budget by 10% without sapping it substantively.
Walker is a D specialist known for his recruiting of NFL-type DBs.
We better be ready for NMSU this year–these aggies may be tougher than most think–even at our house.

send funaki. just will be served.
he is the most deserving.
bstunna2002 – Well that’s his name when he was in high school.
You guys will all probably hate juichiro but it must be said…..Everyone says Blaze this and that but…The guy has yet to start a whole season…He’s made key plays in the past and has great potential and hits like at animal but no consistency like Solly and Adam. So I don’t know about him getting drafted. Especially w/ Sol and Adam not getting much love from the bowl/nfl invitation commitees….I mean common…Is there even enough games played for a Blaze highlight film. He might have watched more that he played in. I hope he and the defense prove me wrong but……Fo Real
I take Brash and Kiesel over Blaze
send funaki and fonoti..F&F
junichiro, you right about blaze has not played much, but when he has played his impact is something else. not only can he crunch, but he has speed to make his crunch a lot more oweeeeeee!!!!
forgot, good afternoon tsaikos.
They need to choose someone who speaks well and is comfortable in front of the cameras. Not someone who gets tongue-tied…
Whitey….Good afternoon and most definite on the impact…but I don’t know if NFL likes has not played much…Aloha
Jason:
That’s great that Kaleo is shaking da bushes to let students know that these events are occurring on campus as we speak.
BUT, what about the “general public” where most of the $$$ comes from? How many “locals” played water polo on the West Coast and may want to see their alma marter get their asses kicked by UH? How strong is the interest in tennis on Oahu?
It would be outstanding if UH can “sell-out” Murakimi Stadiuim for the WAC palyoff – shades of days gone by when we yelled out guts out and cheered on the Bows!!!!!!!
junichiro, no suga brah, u r spot on w Brash…even though i love him n his ohana. he hasnt measured up to a total LB as did sol and adam. he is LB/overweight too.
any bush-shakin by kaleo should be for students to fork-up $50 fees per semester for our athletics….geeezus.
There’s a scrimmage tomorrow?
Already had an article on the athletic fee. 😀
I hope Nash & Co. brings in a couple of HS recruits instead of JC guys for the last two scholies. Seems like in the next two years, there will be a ton of guys that will graduate & we’ll need to rebuild again.
Good Afternoon Tsaikos!!
Condolences to the Coloma Ohana.
I think Inoke would be a great representative for the Football team.
Stretch – You coming to the t-gate?
I think UH sometimes forgets how good it has it.
Fans, media generate the coverage for football. UH doesn’t have to do anything. The real work comes when you don’t have a well-known sport. That’s where UH needs to get its coaches on radio stations and calling reporters.
After football practices, reporters give interview requests to UH sports media relation people. They’re often like, whoa, not too many today, OK?
Now look at San Jose State, Idaho, SMU. They’re begging for reporters to write any story.
So, yeah, if people don’t know about tennis championships, then UH isn’t doing its job.
Sympathies to Colomaohana and family on the passing of your Uncle.
koakane – What time we going rendezvous tomorrow?
Since those basketball players are no longer on the running, Dayton should have just given 2 5-star recruits that aren’t in the running also. 😆
Jobu got da cigar, rum n chekin blud goin… bowzboyz w 6 hits in 2 inning, Montplaisir busting out w HR, single, 2 RBIs, young Kolt extends hitting streat to 13 w RBI triple…Coach Ko letting them jump on first pitch…5-1 bowz, bottom 2.
jj like meet at 7:30 so that is the time we gather
wf2 mahalo for the update ….. hope warrior bballers keep it going. getting ready to hit the hs to see yesterday’s postponed game.
7:30!!!! Is the entrance to the parking lot open by then?
J-boy shakey in the second, walking two and hitting two.
Jayson not pitching bad, just missing but hit-batters were mistakes.
Haw 5-4, TOP 3.
Basebow 5-4 bottom of the 3rd.
I keep forgetting that Las Cruces is an hour ahead of the coast.
Shades of the Nevada game…oh no!
homey:
NMSU is anodda one of those hitter’s parks. Would be surprised if 5-4 is the final score.
CRW – Would be surprised if no team reached double digits in runs.
J-boy still spotty inthe third, hits his 3rd batter but gets double-play.
REM Kramer’s key to success today is to pitch low a away to induce ground balls.
5-4, Hawaii, top 4.
Gunfunnit!
If I knew had one scrimmage tomorrow, I wouldn’t be here in the PNW! 😈
Great Afternoon All!
Whew! made it in to PDX a coupla hours late but no biggie.
al,
Nevah hear anything about that kine incident causing the delay but that flight outta SEATAC was over 12 hours overdue. Kudos to the NWA ground crew for making that really fast turnaround to get us outta HNL as quick as they did….glad someone remembered to top off the tank before we left 😯
Bee-yoo-tiful day in McMinnville today! I hope it’s as nice for wafan and djmitcho where they are…darn near in the 70’s this afternoon.
Taking a short break from helping out for the Linfield Luau…should be a great event. The Hawaiian Club kids are working real hard.
Enjoy the Warrior Bowl and Tsaiko-gate erryboddy! I’ll be thinking of you folks 🙂

I vote for Inoke….got his degree, working on this masters while completing his last year for the warriors…a true grit student-athlete…a good citizen who served 2 years on a mission, although I think evangelicals are ruining the language and cultures of the third world by taking away their religion, way of life, culture and language…

I think Inoke should go. He is very well-spoken and is a real role model for the younger players (which is pretty much everyone, eh?) as well as prospective players. He is sharp-witted too!
Anybody who gets a D1 scholie is an all valley, MVP of, all conference, honerable former junior some thing of college. For the majority; D1 eats em up, and they produce low #’s.
Nash could use some Kueblerish, Savoish and Englishy players! You know, non-priesty things. Then they do their non-priestly thing to the other team!
d1 (#118)
When I saw McMinnville, it reminded me that my sister lived in Newberg for many years. I was last there in ’98 or so, unfortunately for her funeral, but have very fond memories of that area. She & her family used to host the UH-Hilo women’s VB teams when they used to play George Fox U., etc. And we have very good friends in Dundee.
Linfield has such a nice campus & feel to it, you must love living there! The wetness reminds me of the Big Island’s volcano area type!
Sorry too much beer. Priests’ rock, should have replied un-something else or unfamilish guy something else.
Economy and Stocks at the 1/2 point bottom of a bottom; worse things for the economy to come for the economy? Cup and Handle -w-out the handle, second bottom of a W for a great recovery, they anticipate.
For stocks could be wonderful and great in a week or a week and half.
I hope Nash gets some recruits that he thinks are great and wonderful!!
Too bad, it (my opinion) it won’t be mutual.
Condolences to Colomaohana on the passing of your uncle.
Off to answer phones at Hawaii Public Radio. We’d love to have you call…
The WAC Football Media Preview is July 28-29 in Salt Lake City. UH is allowed to bring up to two players. John Estes will be one. Any suggestions for the other? Greg Alexander? Fetaiagogo Fonoti? Brashton Satele or Malcolm Lane?
I say none of the above…
My pick would be Inoke Funaki hands down! He is the most mature, respected player on the team! He is a guy that could promote our football team well, he definitely has the likeability factor in his favor!
So.. how’s our kicking game?
McMinnville is too heavy. Sorry too hear about McMinnville. Too tragic. I don’t want too experience. This is public, people see this and don’t care. Dump on us? You full of it.
Hello Hilobilly. Hello. What has McMinnville and your sister got to do with basketball and football?

Regarding Bball recruits UH needs a real shooting guard and the last scholie should go to the best player regardless of position that they can land. I think a healthy Balocka, Amis and Adams can be effective guarding the post and can contribute some scoring punch. We know what we are getting out of Flemings and the two PGs look like scorers so we just need someone to set up at the 2 guard.
I agree we need a pure shooter since we have a scorer in Flemings. Lasha “Parking Lot Launcha” is gone, but I’m glad cause he threw up so many bricks we could have busted down Klum Gym and built a new one.
But as far as the post guys…no way, Coach Nash needs a big banger in the post. Balocka is big for nothing and a cry-baby. Amis is not a post player, more small forward type and weak. Adams has hops but for what cause he can’t rebound when getting pushed around. Campbell needs to drink Muscle Milk and hit the gym. Xi whatever his name is, probably doesn’t even know how to bang and will get de-bo in the paint, he ain’t no Yao Ming. We need a true banger who can defend and rebound, and get the easy buckets.
afan-
I don’t think hilobilly was talking to you, so don’t worry about what he said in his post. We talk about a lot of things here. Read more posts from various days here and you’ll see what I mean. We DO love UH sports here.

Condolences and prayers to you and your family on the passing of your uncle.

McMinville and the campus are both nice! Visited 20 years ago to see one of my boys graduate.
I would choose Fonoti to go with Estes so that both the offense and defense are represented. Fonoti would also receive media attention due to being there and meeting with all the media, which would be a way to help promote him for honors with the WAC.
Inoke has my full respect, but the position he’s playing for the Warriors probably won’t have him eligible for WAC honors. Plus, having a representative from both sides of the ball would allow for both sides of the Warriors to be promoted.
This article goes over the top 5 specialists in the draft, and Ingram is the only long-snapper to make the list.
Another article recognizing Veikune.
NFL Draft…
Good luck to the boys, hopefully Veikune will get the call tomm. Mouton, Ingram, and Josh Leonard should get the call as well sometime on Sunday! Also, good luck to Adam and Solly and other former UH players trying to get back in the NFL…Ryan, Chad, etc…
someone on SH posted this about Reno players getting in trouble with guns and the law…
http://www.lcsun-news.com/las_cruces-sports/ci_12204731
The NFL must *hate* that teams plan to reveal their draft picks *before* they are announced by the commissioner! This is a great way for the Chargers to get traffic to their website (ESPN and the NFL Network will hate that!) and for the Colts to get twitter followers, but I’m guessing the loophole will be closed before next year’s draft.
Garrett,
Howzit, more than likely I bet Fonoti goes too. He and Estes will be the highlighted guys on the team this year.
I wonder why my comments #177 and #178 are awaiting moderation while #181 went through right away. Anyway, congratulations to this Hawaii man for winning this prize.
Colomaohana ~ Just back from my Uncle’s funeral and read today’s sad news about your Uncle’s passing.
Sincere condolences from my family to yours. Ke Akua will have a pair of good men to keep the faith for an eternity.
Pauoa Boy,
Howzit! I could see Brashton going instead of Fonoti because Brashton is the experienced LB returning just like Fonoti is the experienced DL. Both could win postseason WAC honors if the D performs well, as they should be the leaders of their units.
Kekoa,
Condolences to your family for the loss of your Uncle.
wafan ~ Nevah mine McMinnville, what about Smallville? I hear there’s a Super kid from there that could really light up the scoreboard!
Free play link time. Please ignore my next 5 posts if you do not want to read the off-topic stuff.
At least 60 people have died from the swine flu in Mexico, and it has spread to the US–5 cases in California and 2 in Texas. Most of the people affected in Mexico are young healthy adults with no record of prior illnesses. San Diego is close to the border, so I’m monitoring this very closely!
The Army is continuing its funding into anti-aging research. If a breakthrough is made with resveratrol, it wouldn’t just be a big boost for our troops, it would be a huge-selling drug for GlaxoSmithKline.
Study about how often laptops are lost or stolen at airports. It was interesting to see the stats of losses/theft of laptops at different airports around the country–1200 laptops lost/stolen at LAX each week!

Wow…never been dissed like this before, especially for an innocent post. AFAN, don’t know what you’re smoking or drinking, but there are agencies that can offer help for guys/ladies like you.
I always thought ST’s blog was ‘family’ but w/ the likes of jerks like you, why should I waste my time? See you guys, been nice lurking & occasionally contributing, but this clown & his gibberish/ attitude are beyond my good sense.
Take care, DPK, hope to see you sometime in the fall, I’ll be w/ my brother- in- law guys tailgating for at least a couple of games.
This contest is pretty cool–they are giving away 5 Palm Pre packages that includes the Pre, $100 gift cards to Amazon, and a bunch of accessories.

Thank you Garret, Uncle Richard raised some mighty fine ball players, who continue to make the family proud.
Hilobilly ~ You are always welcome to attend our Tsaiko’s T-gate.
Go Warriors!
Congrats to the BaseBows! 🙂
Lately we have had some “interesting” bloggers. I wonder if this is part of the reason for what seems like a drop in posts.
Kekoa . . .
Condolences and prayers to you and your family on the passing of your uncle Richard.
hilobilly,
Mahalo for the nice reflections of the area.
Actually, I’m not a resident. Just here for the weekend helping out for the luau; my #2 son’s first one as a Wildcat.
btw, nevah mind da afan….jus’ keep lurkin’ and postin’ when you feel like.
wow, nitoto leaving too, wish him and his family the best.
199.
200!
Good night!
Garret,
Fonoti definitely, but I got a little skeptical about Brashton when I started hearing Mana Lolotai’s name emerging. To me, if Blaze Soares could by an act of God, remain a season injury free, he would be the face of the Defense. I dunno if it’ll happen for him but I’m hoping. If not then I can see Paipai Falemalu claiming that position for a couple years and maybe the incoming guys like T.J. Alofipo, Chad Lopati, Marcus Malepeai, or Veni Manu.
at the end of the season Nash only had 2 scholies to build a busted bb program, now he has 5 spots to fill but lacks a recruiting base…..he should have had a list of players to recruit and now he is stuck
Hmmm… is it just me or is something wrong with this picture…
UH Basketball team has not one, not, two, not three, but four players leave the team for various reasons? Is this telling you something or what? Coach Nash has alot of work to do and recruiting. What a blow to the ball sacks with Nitoto leaving though. Regardless of his inexperienced play on the court I thought he was the best defensive guy we had this year. Well, looks like we’ll have some new starters at guard next year cause um Hiram Thompson is not that good peeps!
Ralph,
Can we say UH Basketball is pretty much AFU! News just keeps getting worse and worse for our basketball team.
hey Jason is our bet still on, your ship is sinking and coach Nash has no recruits to fill the cookie jar….back to weatherford and Clackamas for more JC players but the level of play will be the say..a pipeline is good but if the level of play is the same, the results will be another mediocre year..
Good evening Tsai-kos!
Condolences to the Coloma ohana.
We finally made it to the weekend!!!
Congrats to the baseBows on their win. 1 down 3 to go. I hear the 1st game tomorrow is on DishNetwork.
BTW, for those going to the Warrior Bowl tomorrow from the eassai, be careful of road work on H1 by the Middle St exit
say=same
wahines lose to fresno in tennis in semis….that’s okay, it’s the furthest the wahines have advanced in their tennis history. hopefully they’ll keep on knocking the door to the semis, then someday they’ll kick the whole damn door down and win it all
wahines lose to UCLA 8-7 in water polo, move to consolation bracket.
PB ~ Very good view from your perch about The Little Nash Rambler. It’s not lookin’ like it is up to speed with the rest of the WAC. You pretty much nailed all of the essentials. Thing is, if we see it, why can’t anyone else?
Makes me wonder if there is any hope for BOTH the men or the Wahine program. JD has some decisions to make soon or these 2 programs will suck even more money out of the AD budget.
i checked the scout and rivals recruiting list for Hawaii, nada….how come we don’t have players of interest listed like the other schools or our fb program…
want to send my best to all of you who will be attending the spring game. have a lot of fun at both tailgate and game. would have loved to be with you, but made a committment for the kids on sunday.
UH scolded me for my posts, saying: “Why all the hate?”
I told that Kekaula, and he said: “Yeah, why all the hate?”
Then he checked his e-mail and notice the basketball player quit. He had to scramble to change his newscast. Grumble, grumble, grumble. Gee, why all of the hate?
That’s not the only hate going on today
Good evening everyone!
Condolences Kekoa & Ohana…
Condolences also to the Colomaohana…
Looks like Brie and I will be missing the tgate…
Punahou Relays will end about 1:30 and awards at 1:45pm..
Hawaii’s Fastest Human Race will be run tomorrow….Nathaniel Nasca is one of the finalists!
Hope to see everyone at the scrimmage.
So what section will you all be congregating in?
Why can’t we all just get along?
ST, ying and yang, black and white, north and south, etc
did we clean up on namasu today???
Mahalo to MsLiz for calling in a pledge tonight to support HPR/KIPO!
Kekoa,
My condolences on your uncle’s passing. ((HUGS))
whitey,
We’ll eat some for you at the T-gate, and yell & scream for you, too.
Manana….
Rafael Crescencio’s commitment can be understand but his vision being narrow??? ok! it’s all right
Rafael Crescencio’s commitment can be understand but his vision being narrow??? ok! it’s all right
whitey.. you mean the 12-10 UH score against NaMaSU?
I hope Bob Nash finds some players for his dream team. Would he better off keeping his three scholarships and using them next season? Or should he grasp for straws this late in the recruiting season? Hopefully he’ll have some really quality walk-ons. I really would like for him to succeed.
Hmm.. time to hit the showers and go to sleep..
Night all..
Kekoa..
Sorry to hear about your Uncle. My condolences.
mih, what was the wahine score??? i saw when they were leading, but did not see the finish.
wahines beat nmsu 3-1 with three solo homers….
Thank you very much. now can sleep. see you all in the morning.
Sad to see Nitoto leave, but I certainly understand the concern with his family. And if anybody thinks family is not a key aspect to his decision, consider this story:
http://sports.honoluluadvertiser.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20090213/SPORTS0204/902130370
We’re definitely going to miss his defensive play. Not sure how the new guards coming in play defensively, so that could be a huge loss.
That said, Ralph, I’m not going to back off on our wager. I’m a man of my word, and I believe in this team.
Kekoa- Prayers for Uncle.
Nitey Nite!
Jackson Wheeler,(19 yrs.) at UH; senior recruiter and has recruited past players like Anthony Carter, etc. So what’s happened???
Larry Farmer,(2nd yr.) at UH; three National Championships as a player at UCLA. Played and coached with the Dean of college coaches; was himself, “the” head coach at UCLA, etc., etc., etc. With his extensive connections in college basketball, what????, no more any connections to some very good prospects???…I don’t get it???
Is coach Nash doing the recruiting ALL by himself o-what???? cause sure looks like he ain’t getting any help from anywhere else??
Which reminds of an article in Scoutdotcom; it’s entitled, “TOO MANY PLAYERS, NOT ENOUGH SCHOLARSHIPS”………hmmmmm??..try check with UH’s new found problem!!!!
Great Morning All (from the PNW)!
Good Luck to the Warriors in the Warrior Bowl.
Hope all those fighting for a roster spot play well, play hard and that all stay injury-free.
Interesting to read about some who would monku monku so much about some MBB players now MONKU MONKU about them leaving! 😕
Have a wunnah-ful dat erryboddy! 🙂
Pauoa Boy,
I agree with what you said above on Blaze and Paipai in #203. It is unfortunate that Paipai was hurt and couldn’t participate fully this Spring, as that might have delayed his development.
A fine morning to all!
Scrimmage Day!!!
Article mentions the possibility of the 49ers drafting Veikune.
d1 . . .
Hoping the luau is a huge success down South!!!
KGMB article (and video) about Jake Ingram and the draft.
Garret . . .
The article about the swine/avian flu was interesting. Looks like it will spread unless steps are taken.
Wow. Seriously? The next pandemic?!?! Scary.
g’morning Tsaikos!
howzit d1 and wafan! are you guys freezing your arse?!?!
my condolence to Mrs. C and her Ohana. ((((((((((hugs))))))))))
REST IN PEACE UNCLE.
Kekoa – my deepest condolences on the passing of your uncle.
wafan,
The number of known cases in Mexico has passed 1,000 and the number of known cases in the US is increasing…with 4 in San Diego county!
best of luck to Nitoto. family is EKAHI!
hilobilly – don’t mind the ‘troll’. he/she is NOT a regular poster. keep on lurking and post when you feel like it.
if can, stop by one of the Tsaiko t-gates and fellowship with everyone.
btw, say ‘aloha’ to my cousin, nelson, for me. mahalo!
good morning tsaikos. good morning hawaiianbod, good to see you up and posting regularly.
kekoa and mrs c, my condolences to you and the family
without question INOKE SHOULD GO
➡ he is the ULTIMATE team player
➡ he’s a LEADER
➡ he’s RESPECTED by everyone
➡ he has already GRADUATED
➡ he paid his dues
➡ he SUPPORTS other sports
➡ how many other players have a play/package named after them?!?! NOKE

Good Morning Everybody! Hope everyone headed to the Warrior Bowl and T-Gate has a good and safe time. Me, I’m stuck at work
About the APR (academic progress rate)
Teams falling under a score of 925 (below a 60-percent graduation rate) over the four-year reporting period and have players leave school while ineligible — so-called “0-for-2s” — are subject to penalties.
How serious can the APR affect UH teams losing scholarships?
Take a look:
Football-(2004-2005) 869 resulting in the loss of 5 scholarships
Basketball-(2006-2007) 889 resulting in the scholarship count dropping from 13 to 11
With word that 4-5 UH basketball players leaving the program Coach Nash is further behind the eight ball because not only does have to play catch up in finding recruits, but, now, the APR is going to take a hit as well with the loss of 4-5 players leaving the program. Not a happy time for Coach Nash and the basketball coaches and JD.
shouting out to all in the PNW hope you day is as good as our. trying to send some warm and sunshine your way. temp 66 now but predicted to to up to mid 80’s. pack and looking into sky and see no clouds at all. whoooootahhhhhh gooing be good time.

koakane, excellent day for some fine biru in the afternoon. just put it in the shade and going get cold. dang, it is slightly windy and cold right now. on the second thought, maybe some fine sake from marukai.
somehow the mbb does not seem to be functioning too well. gain 2 offensive guards and lose one defensive one. have 2 asst coaches with major connections and no recruits. on surface, this is not good, but will give coach nash one more year. if he no can produce, then it is aloha and thanks for the memories.
whitey setting my watch so exactly at noon will host 3 beeru to you and all the maui ohana. so no worry the bruddah’s not left our. you have a good day

Nash has to fill the scholies this year. With his job on the line I don’t think that he can afford to wait till next year. He guaranteed 18 wins so he has to deliver quickly and needs to bring in players immediately. The recruiting period is not over yet so give him and his staff a chance.

enjoy your post and creativity
😀
wafan, I know what you mean. Tuesday was perfect weather. It’s was sunny and 80 with a slight breeze. At least the sun is out on this side even though only gonna be in the 50’s
Jim Donovan has to be more aggressive in these times and acknowledge that he is not operating a union on lower Manoa. Give Hawaii tax payin fans more credit–we know a lemon when we see it…..historically, it has been the case at UH that the guyz in the red wagons arent summoned until the O’Leary cow kicks the oil lattern on the haystack….rollin over the Nash contract only prolonged the pain and set back the recovery timetable….we need stronger and more decisive leadership from Donovan–no mas–no more bailouts!

Brew Moon, you saw me standing alone
Without a dream in my heart
Without a love of my own
Brew Moon, you knew just what I was there for
You heard me saying a prayer for
Someone I really could care for
And then there suddenly appeared before me
The only one my arms will ever hold
I heard somebody whisper, “Please adore me”
And when I looked, the moon had turned to gold
Brew Moon, now I’m no longer alone
Without a dream in my heart
Without a love of my own
KEKOA and Mrs. C:
So sorry about your loss. My prayers goes out to you and yours.
dj . . .
At least you have the sun. Right now it does not look very good outside — not raining but definitely cloudy!
Time for summer.
The advance unit for today’s TGate should be on the scene or very nearly so, anyhow.
I hope we get a lot of updates and photos of the TGate and the scrimmage.
Speaking of AD Donavon,
I’m still dissapointed with the agreement made with Oceanic Cable and streaming UH sports.
This decision has eliminated 50% of the Hawaii mkt. fanbase that chose to use Satellite ( Dish or Direct TV), and has no choice since Oceanic doesn’t route to every neighborhood that is rural.
Think about this. It’s punishment towards our competitive free market.
Why not agree to have both Oceanic and Hawaiian Tel to stream and open up competition and a better service ?
koakane, thanks.
read ST’s twitters on bolla and i tried to picture bolla walking towards ST and ST putting on his best stealth moves. somehow bolla is like the plague, but give the man guts (or stupidity) if he thinks that the athletic dept going be friendly after he had filed his lawsuit. in a way bolla reminds me of that cartoon character joe splizit (spp) who is always followed by a dark rain cloud with lightning.
can see 300 on the horizon before ST puts up his new post
to the warriors today, play hard and clean. am truly glad to see coach mc putting an emphasis on discipline, on and off the field.
the sun is out and sending its warmth to all the Tsaikos.
it will be great to have 5000+ fans in the stadium today
290, not too shabby.
this reminds me of musical chair. the tsaikos are lurking and waiting to see if they can be 300
at the same time ST is watching to see if we can make 300
ST, did you put up a new post?????

ok, going take break and see who is #300
Then 295.
I feel a dollar short and a day late.

Jr Day at UH, FIRST EVER IN HAWAII HISTORY, but not nearly a word except for when Coach Mack is being interviewed on TV. Now, what’s with dat? Where is the SID??? Is this within the job description???
Coach Mack did say about 90 players and their parents will be there about now. He did emphasize that this is an “unofficial visit” and they must pay for all food consumed. Good luck to Coach Mack and his staff on this historic day in UH sports history. Maybe, some other UH coach will do the same for their sport; afterall, football does not have a lock on Jr-Day.
Spaceship #300 calling whitey…. I think my brother has shot a 300 – 9 holes! Koakane’s version of the song – “300 bottles of beiru in the cooler….” 😆
Aloha Mrs. A-House!!! 😀
I am doing fine. Izzy is still luckless. This economy is just the pits. Heck, even the local Chez Ronald is not hiring any kids. It is weird. I think it may be worse before it begins to improve.
Funny how teachers who were talking retirement last September will be back next school year. Cannot afford to retire!
brew, thanks.
Ooooooooops, busted again for not changing name of poster, but you all know that when Mrs A-House blogs, the difference in the written words, very nice and flowing and not like the dumpster side kick!!!
only thing is that sounds more like Mr. A-House! 😯
…old dogs… old tricks…. 😆 🙄 😆
From Mrs A-House to Brew – HOWZITS!!!!!!!!! – she is busy washing dishes so we can go to the T-gatge and meet the gang.

You ever notice the EBS is just about always happens right in the middle of the important part of the program? “And, therefore, the murderer is . . . THIS IS A TEST OF THE blah, blah, blah. . .” So much for that show.
Arrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Why not put those things on at four in the morning?
Aloha Kakahiaka!
Sorry to hear that Kareem Nitoto is leaving. Hope his Mom’s health improves.
Heading to the T-Gate. See you there!
Wafan & Brew808 –
Good Morning! Mahalo for your cheerful greetings on this beautiful mornng in Hawaii Nei! Post #304 was A-House, so the merry-go-round at our house continues. D1 will set him straight right pronto!
Of course, I will oblige you by consuming enough and yelling enough for the three of us. There is indeed a huge amount of excitement in the air. I counted at least a dozen posts over the past few days of Homey asking KK “so, what time we going meet?” Kudos to KK, Homey and James (Jesse) for setting up early and serving as official greeters.
You both have a great day! We’re leaving for the Cabana so bye for now…
Good morning, Tsaikos! Have a fantastic T-gate; eat and yell plenty.
Mrs. C – my deepest condolences to you and your entire ‘ohana.
Hmm.. Maybe Jr Day is something every School of Study should be doing at UH. That way each department will start to focus on their strengths as they groom themselves for the event and possibly grow in positive ways through self-actualization, eh?
nah… makes too much sense… forget it…
Mei Ling..
No forget… empty the trunk first otherwise your swap meet purchases might not all fit into the car.
Looks like U-dub and Washington State won’t play at Qwest field after all.
Rich Ellerson is putting a 6’10” player at WR!
this is what moon thinks:
David Veikune-6th round
Ryan Mouton-5th round
Cal vs. Ron in the Warrior Bowl- Cal 31-14
Good morning Tsai-kos!
Have fun at the T-gate and scrimmage.
I heard earlier that the today’s 1st game of the doubleheader would be on DishNetwork somewhere, but I can’t find it on the schedule. Did I hear it incorrectly or is it just being shown regionally and not in Hawaii?
Hilobilly, my reply was totally callous and insensitive.
I just dislike funeral kind of stuff. Felt that deep sadness and helpless feeling before. Been in that situation, tragic and too sad. That funeral stuff started to bring that sadness that I rechanneled to that stupid reply. I was totally very low class and out of line. I apologize.
Maybe someday forgive that callous, damn reply; but, I doubt it. I was full of beer. You full of your ohana.
