Gerald Meyers is a former TT baseball coach and its been known for years that he is totally jealous of what Leach has done for TT football.
Hance is a good ole boy, but he is a good ole boy and cowtows to the likes of the smooth Texas Talkers, like James. And James and James have now brought down TT. The TT fans are extremely upset and vocal.

Looking forward to watching the TT game today. And then the Leach lawsuit.

I bring this up to remind myself and each of us how important it is to have a good relationship between the AD and the coach. Jim Donovan and Chancellor Hinshaw are extremely supportive of our team. And our coaches.

Coach Mack, you got a great opportunity here. and a well paying
opportunity. and you’re surrounded by some incredible coaching talent. the most important thing you gotta do is to project to the other coaches the confidence you have in yourself. and in them.

Thats why I brought up the Leach and Gerald Meyers/Hance/BOR brew hahahaha at TT. The football fans supporting Leach far far outnumber
the James led Meyers group that fired him. People, not as many but still plenty, are gonna go to the game to support TT. but watch the game to confirm for yourself how human nature has a way of letting the status quo know all is not well in double TNation. its all gonna come back to bite James cuz Texans remember him having a dark past at SMU. And now his kid is getting blamed for bringing down TT football.

for me, i’m not gonna let that happen to us. If there is a perceived problem, I’m talking upfront so we don’t let petty stuff bring us down.
The James stuff is petty and its gonna cost TT more than money. They lost a great coach. Maybe we can scoop him up. He sure is a fighter!

Watched Under Armor HSAA bowl this morning. Looking at where all the 4 & 5 star high school stars are going, the rich are definitely getting much richer. Cannot remember a non-BCS school getting any of this motherlode of talent.

Just thinking about this made me realize how admirable the Boise football program is. Consistency over the years with only 2 & 3 star prospects is truly commendable. The broncos are not 1 year wonders, their body of work over the many seasons is one to try & emulate.

Anyone know Boise QB’s Kellen Moore’s rating as a high school prospect and which schools in addition to Boise recruited him?

ILH JV FB was interesting this year; everyone ended up with the same record. KS beat SLS; SLS beat PS; PS beat KS…twice!

After watching The Former Coach’s interview on L & L, if I’m Steve Orsini, I keep close tabs on the NFL coaching merry-go-round on a daily basis for the next few years.

I really got the sense that he still would like to get some vindication on that level and feels like there is some unfinished business in pro football.

If it matters to anyone, USF goes up by 10 on No. Illinois in Toronto.

Did all the players have to get passports to make that trip?

Answered my question about passports for the Int’l. Bowl….

USF admin scrambled to get about 200 passports for players, coaches, staff, band, cheerleaders. The school footed the bill at $300 a pop. Getting that done so expeditiously must have been quite a feat.

Bulla, the kona winds were pretty good on the eve, so most of the smoke got blown out, but there was some beautiful aerials. County requires permits for fireworks, but no aerial. Amazing how people circumvent this, but it was nice. I don’t know how much it cost for one of those aerials, but don’t think it is cheap.

Went to the darkside yesterday and lo and behold, most merchants were closed. I was shocked because closure meant that there was no money being made. hahahahhahahhaa

I don’t think we wish ill of his health.. just questioning his logic. I pay $800 a month for a family of 3 on health insurance, or $9,600.00 a year plus another $1400 last year on out of pocket expenses.

mih, understand about insurance costs and it’s effect on families. besides my brother having a heart attack and cancer, his wife had moya moya and required surgery at Stanford Hospital by a specialized nerosurgeon. If it wasn’t for the insurance, we would have never been able to afford the operation which exceeded half mil dollars and she would not be living today. i sympathize with those who do not have insurance or have a very limited one.

it’s like the scene from the Ed Sullivan show, spinning plates on top of long poles, you keep spinning and spinning……and you lose a few, some stay spinning for the entire time…..and then the curtain drops……

it’s a meat market out there……..gotta keep trying all the time…..the coaches have no idea what is happening on the other side of the door, so they gotta stay in constant communication as allowed by NCAA and keep on the athlete’s ‘radar’ and the parent’s ‘radar’…..

even after LOI, recruiting continues, because come September ALL requirements have to be met, graduation, degrees, GPA’s, certificates, SAT scores…….all of those come into play.

i think fb recruiting is an art and not a science. the personalities of the coaching staff are more of the determining factor or whether a recruit will consider a school. then all the rest of the factors come into play. i think if we watch what happens at TT’s recruits, we will have a better picture of what coaches and programs bring to a school.

ST’s point about deadline is very true. There was an outstanding lb on Maui and he was given a deadline to commit in Sept of his sr yr or lose the offer from USC. Basically, I think that this is how a lot of the big schools recruit because if they have 2 scholies for a rb, but have 5 recruits, they will start with their #1 and work their way down, but if the first 2 accepts, then they will cancel the other 3. Is this fair??? That is left to one’s thought.

Good discussion on the health care system. BTW, it costs more in the US than other countries because we don’t have some sort of socialized medicine. Cradle to grave health care. There are pluses and minuses, but it spreads the costs around.

ST – #152 – I like your idea. Don’t most schools send out acceptance letters in April? How much are appl fees running these days? We’ve been trying to talk our cousin in Miami to at least apply to UH, but her mother is balking at the appl fee (not to mention the other stuff).

Thing is, the athlete’s not a scholarship player until he is officially accepted by UH and, I think the application fees are non-refundable pre-entry processing fees.

whitey….although i can’t confirm this. it has always been my guess that we have offered and received verbal/written commitments by more than several recruits each year all the while knowing that they would not make it through the ncaa clearinghouse academically.

it has been my belief that this was done to make the recruit class look like a good one, when in fact the quantitative “bling” belied the actual numbers and quality of the class that made it through the fall.

i always thought that they did this to make themselves look good.

it seemed to be more evident in the past two years.

I agree 100%. The big guy that ST saw must be one of the few big guys on the team. It’s really shocking how scrawny the S.L. JV team looks these days. But on the other hand….do you think we would have went 12-0 with Mack as HC?

then what ST is true, the NCAA should stop this present practice of offering scholies till the student is accepted by their schools of choice. That means that schools cannot offer anything till May for graduating hs school kids. Sounds logical.

I’m hoping that the coaching staff have kept in contact with the players that didn’t make the entry requirements and had to go the more circuitous route to get to a D-1 program. Hopefully as the first to have offered, we’ll have a better chance of getting them back should they make the grade within two years at a JuCo or D-II school.

If that pans out, it’s like having another handful of scholies with players on a JV team.

how much chaos or interest will there be if the NCAA says that no scholie can be offered till May 15th for graduating hs students, but to be offered, they must have been accepted to the school of their choice?? This would be like the NFL draft day!!!!

if this is going to continue, then an athlete should be able to sign at any time because this is non binding till he becomes a student. I buy that!!!

Leach released several statements saying that the Texas Tech trainers supported what he did with James. However, it appears that he took one line out of context and actually their trainers were *against* putting James in a closet. They told this to Leach *before* he punished James, so Leach knew that their medical staff was against what he was doing.

Given that, Leach’s lawsuit has much less chance now and Leach’s career has been severely damaged. The fact that Leach already made things personal against James and claimed things that were not true with the trainers will make it hard for Leach to back out of his previous position.

A Texas Tech athletic trainer told university officials he did not agree with Mike Leach’s treatment of receiver Adam James after the player was diagnosed with a concussion.

In an affidavit obtained Saturday by The Associated Press, Texas Tech head athletic trainer Steve Pincock says he told James he was “sorry” for having placed the player inside an equipment shed near the practice field.

On Dec. 21, Pincock spoke with Texas Tech officials, telling them that he did not agree with that “form of treatment for anyone” and that Leach “wanted James to be uncomfortable.”

In an interview a day later, team physician Dr. Michael Phy told university officials that James “may not have been harmed” but he “considered this practice inappropriate.”

A source had told ESPN’s Joe Schad that Leach called a trainer and directed him to move James “to the darkest place, to clean out the equipment and to make sure that he could not sit or lean. He was confined for three hours.”

According to the source, Leach told the trainer, two days later, to “put [James] in the darkest, tightest spot. It was in an electrical closet, again, with a guard posted outside.”

Perhaps the coaches plan is to offer knowing that the student athlete will NOT be able to attend UH and then offer another who happens to express interest in UH or offer the scholarship to a current, deserving player like Moniz, Corey Paredes, etc.

Ya know how you can never forget your first love? Well, I’m hoping that’s what a first offer and commitment is like.. So even if they don’t qualify for UH (and any other D-1 school), I’m hoping they keep it in their heart to want to be a Warrior when they go elsewhere for 1.5 – 2 years.

I love guys like him. I remember a D-lineman, Harris Matsushima, who did not get the stats to be recognized, but he just did his job. Teams would run at him, then double team him, and finally, ran away fom him.
Nate Jackson, too small and skinny to play DB but all he did was play hard, make big plays and never give up.
BJ Itoman, would run and run, until the other team had their tongues hanging out. On her senior night, gives special thanks to her grandparents for their support.
Character, heart, determination, will never be trumped by bravado, taunting and the games that are played off the field.

The Mayo branch in Glendale Ariz. has just decided to ONLY accept Cash only from Medicare patients. They have cut any insurance reimbursement, due to to all the hogwash going on and where it is heading.
Reminder, Glendale sits in the region of Sun City, one of the largest retirement communities in the U.S.A.

none of the Red Raiders appear to be having problems with their under Armour shoes, they play fast on offense and defense. Their OL is huge, no size issue with their feet.

The ECU loss to Arkansas points out the fact that UH isn’t the only team
who has problems with their kicking game and has lost games because of it. Bobby Bowden (at FSU) lost a national championship (or two?) before putting a kicker on scholarship ( Janakowsky, I think, but I don’t trust my memory anymore); the move paid off for at least one or two more Championships.

#172 – Do you think the same thing is happenning in the Manley situation? I don’t want to take sides, but it’s surprising that Manley only had offers from UH and NMSU. We will see a few years from now.

Under Armour did send tech for shoes this season but how many required custom shoes? Our record was worst this year than last, that’s why I commented last year, don’t blame the gear after we lose, should have, could have, brought it up in the summer before Fall practice two years ago. Wright Jackson had a better season but not lights out and someone posted that he was one who was having shoes issue.

I think the Warrior’s qb position will be solidified this year and probably not have a qb position in their priority needs. I think they have a great class of qbs’ now and with the additon of Spain, they look good for the next 4 yrs.

We need a bruising RB… someone who can really level a block.. catch… run…throw the deep one and tackle if need be.

TT interim HC of 1 week, he was the DC, the inside receiver coach becomes the OC, and TT does not miss a beat in their offense. Game management, no hesitation, 2 4th down situation last drive, no hesitation, everyone on the same page. so what happened to UH after June left. Wasn’t anyone paying attention when JJ was game planning and calling plays.

With tonight’s conference opener a bad loss, it looks like a long season looming for the UH basketball team. The team doesn’t measure up to being a good enough team to have a winning record, not even a winning record at home. They will take their lumps on the road by double digits.
Hate to say it, but the Bob Nash era will have to end at the end of this season. Jim Donovan has to make the decision, but after 3 years I don’t see how the team has improved appreciably during his time here. For one, the team’s athleticism is poor. Two, lack of speed and quicklness. Three, poor ball handling under pressure, Four, not enough good outside shooters, five, poor team free throw shooting, six, we are getting outcoached. As a fan, I just stay at home and watch all the games because it’s free. It is frustrating to watch the team play. The problem with the program is that the team does not play exciting basketball and therefore the fans are turned off by not going to the games. What is the attendance for the games? Poor I’d bet. If the team is exciting I would seriously consider going to see a game in person. Hawaii fans do not want a team playing slow down or even a disciplined half court game. Hawaii people are bored with that kind of play. Hawaii fans prefer uptempo play w/ fast breaks, and defensive play w/ steals. Sadly, we do not have those kind of players because the coaching staff cannot get the recruits to come to Hawaii. So, what’s the answer. Simply, get a new head coach who CAN recruit the players who have the talent and skills who can play that kind of ball. That’s Jim Donovan’s problem. If we have the kind of uptempo team who is exciting, the fans will come in droves and fall in love with the team. The entire State would. It’s not rocket science. You tell me. When was the last time we had a player who could go one on one and create his own shot? The only one I can think of is Tom Henderson. Maybe Jerome Freeman, but that’s a long time ago. I saw tonight the best player on the floor. Idaho’s Mac Hopson. He did it all. Because of his play, we lost. Nobody from Hawaii stepped up to the plate. Adhar Mayen tried in the second half to spark the team, but he is what he is. Let’s get another coach who will get the team to play exciting basketball. With the athletic budget at stake, we need to do something. UH basketball should be a source of profit for the dept., but it is not. Losing is one thing, but how we are losing is another. I don’t like the way we play and the way we lose. Period.
