Austin powers
Defensive coordinator Kevin Lempa could count the number of available players on his hands and feet.
“Maybe 20,” Lempa said of the defensive count for yesterday’s practice. “That’s not that many.”
The manpower shortage led to the Warriors working mostly on pass defense and two-minute drills during practice.
But it also created opportunities for three walk-on defensive backs with the same first name โ Austin Borengasser, Austin “PK” Pang-Kee and Austin Gerard.
“I give the guys credit who are out there working, especially the walk-on kids,” Lempa said. “Who knows what’s going to happen. I like Borengasser, PK, Austin Gerard. There are a bunch of guys working their tail off.”
Borengasser redshirted in 2015. Pang-Kee, the son of former UH defensive back Tony Pang-Kee, and Gerard joined the Warriors after excelling in a walk-on tryout last month.
ichi!
GOOD MORNING, HAWAII!
20 guys-it is okay to err on the side of prudence. Injuries healing up etc. no major losses due to injury. It will take another full recruiting class to get the roster to where it should be. Incoming group has contributing talent and other issues resolved. Go Warriors!
KT in another incident, per SA, prior to the other one:
“Kennedy Tulimasealii, 21, has been charged with second-degree criminal property damage, a Class C felony punishable by up to five years in prison.
He was arrested Monday night at the main police station and released about an hour later after posting $20,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court Thursday morning.
Tulimasealii, of Waianae, allegedly got into a fight with an ex-girlfriend and damaged her fatherโs car, a source said. The date of the incident was not available through court records, but the case was opened this year before his previous arrest April 12. … “
Reading between the lines from yesterday’s post leaves me worried about the QB situation. Woosley didn’t seem like a great passer, so if players aren’t distancing themselves from him, that could mean another rough season. Can anyone who’s been going to the practices tell me how the team looks this year in comparison to last?
*To clarify, I’m asking how the spring practices look this year compared to last spring.
Great Afternoon All!
Nice story about the Three Austin’s.
Hopefully there will be nicer stories about more players in August.
Just hoping Ka’aumoana Gifford can make it back to the team this summer. Unfortunately, KT is looking more and more like a cooked goose. And the injuries are of the “banged-up” variety. So spring has been an opportunity for lots of reserves to get significant reps. All good.
Good news… and bad news.

Guud Afternoon Tsaikos…Bootiful Day!
I guess we talking defense today.
How many after we get the recruits on board? 20 Seems a little “light” for Spring practice.
M. Green for the defense…not bad. Hope KT & KG will be able to resolve their legal problems. This lesson learned is going to be a hard one but hopefully it’ll bring them back on course.
IMUA WARRIORS!
Are all these injuries serious.
Rolo need ease up the contact
Or are they minor and they no like practice. If so Rolo needs to bring back Beamers “PIT” That seemed get players mended quickly and back on
practice field.

Interesting last names for the three Austins. Guessing Borengasser is former Kamehameha Warrior Billy Borengasser’s son? Saw Tony Pang-Kee working out his son six weeks ago while at Castle High school. Obviously John Gerard’s presence at UH practices means that Austin Gerard would be his son. John Gerard was an all-state defensive end at Kamehameha in 1976 and 1977. John played for UH in 1978 and 1979. John’s sister Kehau married former Kaiser running back Boyd Yap, making former Warrior star Beau Yap Kehau’s son, John’s nephew, and Austin G’s first cousin. All three Austins having Warrior ties.
Bet all three Austins are tougher than nails. Definitely going to make our team better.
Saw a real tall Junior prospect during UH’s Junior day this past weekend. Didn’t realize that it was Steve Lakalaka’s friend just hanging loose. DeForest Buckner is a prospect but not for the Hawaii Warriirs. Wish my team the Titans would move up in the first round to grab him, but highly unlikely he’ll be available or that Titans would move up. They’re sitting pretty now with six picks in the top 76 of this year’s draft.
President, Heisman Trophy winner, and could it be, a Cy Young Award winner?
Steven Wright.
I remember Don Robbs saying that he feared Wright’s career was coming to an end.
It’s so great that he is doing it in a baseball city.
I’m a Padres fan. It hurts me to see Jedd Gyorko, somebody that I and my Padres chat group would grouse about(the second coming of Dan Ugglia we’d call him), taking at-bats away from Kolten Wong.
KT sounds like he has anger management issues … lack of disicipline ??? … no wonder he had so many offsides penalties last year …
Kifi…thank you for the 411.
Need to break bread soon.
NCAA Rescinds the Satellite camp ban at their Board of Directors meeting. Any word if they finalized the expanded Hawaii Exemption? It was on the agenda.
GOOD MORNING, HAWAII!
