re: Hala’api’api on yesterday’s blog. i was told from someone who’s opinion i highly value, that Hala’api’api could potentially become a better LB in college than Chester Su’a. i emailed the UH coaches multiple times regarding Hala’api’api, but got no response. i assume they passed on him bc they were high on others.
havent been following WSU much, but from earlier in the season, it looked like Su’a was now only a part-time starter. Coen was getting more PT than Su’a at LB, tho they play different LB positions.

to me, Higgins should get to start these last 3 games of the season. bc according to Chow, “we dont want our QBs looking over their shoulder.” Higgins needs to play free and not be worried about making mistakes and then Chow yanking him. if Higgins gets a quick hook, we know Chow is a hypocrite and plays favorites.
hopefully Higgins can open Chow’s eyes and show him that maybe making more tweaks to his offense makes it better. moving more to a spread attack will help the offense. i doubt it, but still hopeful.

And, yes, if it happens, which it should, he would replace Inoke Funaki as GA.
GAs are limited to 3-year terms. Funaki is finishing up his third season.
Olivia Vea, who works with the video department, also is a GA. Because she’s in a non-coaching position, there’s a possibility they could make her a paid employee, opening up another GA spot.

Will the bad news ever end for UH this season? Brendan Daley could have helped control AFA’s running offense but gets dropped from the travel roster after showing up late for practice. And Darius Bright gets left behind due to — is anyone here surprised? — yet another injury. As the old SNL skit goes, “it’s always something.”
No wonder UH has more first-time starters than any other team in the country, as Ferd mentions in his column. And it’s not even close. Chow needs to go find a kahuna to bless this program; one who has some real pull with the powers-that-be.

I don’t necessarily think Chow dislikes Higgins. But he is very quick to defend SS and cast blame on others. Now to Chow’s credit, he doesn’t say names when he says people ran wrong routes, etc.
It just seems like Higgins has more stacked against him in terms of Chow’s support just because of how much he defends Schroeder. Again, as fans on a blog, we only see and here so much.
I have said before, and this is purely opinion, I think Chow’s ego will get in the way of him necessarily wanting to see outright success from another QB. Yes, I know that may sound ridiculous and jaded. I do think he will be happy for another QB personally for doing a good job, but the “I told you so” that will follow will undermine his stark defense of “his guy” that he held on to for too long.
Ultimately it is about the wins, but it will be a tough one for Chow’s ego to swallow. By the way, we all have egos, so it is not a stab at the coach.
we can only hope that the other players are inspired by the change of personel at QB. I think you’ll see players step their games up against AFA.

I was making predictions all season long bout the score… now, all I can say is, Ainokea who start or any other drama. Just win Warriors!!! And I DO believe we’ll win tomorrow.

Cayman Shutter had one week of spring training and was suspended for the first three games. So he was way behind. Now he’s worked hard, has a grasp of the offense and is much improved. But he was just way behind.
David Graves, as we’ve said before, trained for an offense that no longer exists. He really, really struggled to learn the offense, and that impacted his decision making, which impacted his performance. They handed him the No. 1 job in the spring, but he struggled too much to keep it. Higgins actually was ahead of Graves after spring training, but they decided label them as co-No. 1s to provide motivation for Graves during the summer.
Now can he get better? Of course. But there was a lot to overcome.
Anyway, Chow likes all of them, and he’s quick to defend each of the quarterbacks.
I have cutups of every game, and it’s not a lie when somebody says there are breakdowns in routes and protection. Chow also has been critical of Schroeder for holding the ball too long.

79. I understand a lot of it isn’t Schroeder’s fault. But after taking his hits, you can see how his accuracy dips a lot as the hits get to him. Whether he does the best in practice or not, it’s not leading to points in the “game”. Most of the fans complaints which are very fair is that you need to give the next guy in line a chance. I think it has taken a little long but at least Higgins is getting a chance now. I don’t care who it is that is being given the shot but sometimes a change is needed. Maybe it will light a fire in teammates or give some confidence in them but continuous 3 and outs and turn overs just aren’t going to cut it.
Yes!! This is the first time all season where I am actually looking forward to watching the game. There is HOPE! Yeah!!
im sure there are miscues in blocking and routes. i just hope Chow will have Higgins’ back like he does for Schroeder. so far, all weve heard is hes did well BUT not against 1st team defenses. seems like hes discrediting Higgins’ production and making excuses for Schroeder’s lack of production.
One thing is for sure when Higgins was on the field. Whether or not it was 1st, 2nd, or 3rd team, you noticed a sense of urgency on offense and the tempo of the game was 100x better.
1st half it seemed like offense was just moving at a slow no tempo pace.
Yes there is hope with change but a little to late for this season.
Hope there will be better showing on final national TV at mile hight stadium.
Come back home with momentum to final home stand against UNLV with military night and New UA Uniform and win the final 2 home games.

I think there are a lot of constructive comments here.
But the one thing for UH supporters is this is your team, your players, your hanai family.
So while you might or might not like a player’s performance, it’s a good reminder these are young men trying to do their best.
In other words, dislike the performance, not the performer.
Hope there be better turn-out than 400 walk-up sale vs. BSU
UNLV should be at least a + 4,000 walk in sale.
The other thing is Air Force, no doubt, has practiced for the possibility of Higgins starting.
I’ve seen QBs like Shawn Withy-Allen, Jason Wieldon and Shane Austin do well in sub roles, but not as great when the other team has more time to prepare for them.
So if Higgins were to struggle, that doesn’t mean he’s not a good quarterback. It probably means he’s facing an aggressive defense, on the road, in the freakin’ cold.

While I would hate to see Jim Donovan leave Hawaii for a while, my first impression was that he does not need Greenwood’s half-hearted ad hoc golden parachute job position. Whether he gets the Cal State Fullerton position or not, it is a good “statement” on his part.

Schroeder was ahead because he had background in the offense. Higgins admittedly had trouble making some throws. Now he can wing it. Now he’s playing.
For everyone who wishes Higgins would play, now he’s going to play. I hope he does well because he’s a terrific person; plus, he comes from a great family.

Graves ran the Air Force offense, and did well. He did a lot of good research and nailed the cadence. He’s a good guy, good player.

I’m glad I don’t have to make these choices. I would be like the Hawaii Baptist basketball coach. I’d have three units, and they’d sub out every three minutes.
I heard something about the Utah State coaches changed Jeremy Higgins throwing motion his freshman year there, and it affected the velocity of his passes. He seems to have corrected that problem with the help of his high school coach Vinnie Passas.
Didn’t Derek Tatsuno also have the same thing happen to him when he went to play pro ball in Japan? His throwing motion was all messed and Coach Les realized that the minute he saw Tatsuno throw up there. The coaches in Japan are like gods there. Gotta listen or else you have to slit your opu.
Since I don’t own a horse not sure what you are talking about and it is not my problem if people who like to criticize can’t take some of it in return …

Yes, they thought he was throwing with too much of a side-armed motion. So they taped a padding below his arm pit to prevent him from dropping his arm. It messed up his throw. I’m surprised he didn’t develop a stutter; isn’t that what happens to lefties who are forced to write with their right hand?

I always thought that with UH having trouble scoring in the Red Zone, they should be using Graves in goal line situations. The defense wouldn’t know if he would hand the ball off, throw it or run it in himself. He did it last year! We should be using all the weapons in our arsenal. It would also force the opposing teams to try and prepare for it and also give out team an emotional lift.

As far as SS, I think he is just not clicking. He has taken beatings this year and I feel for him. I think he is a great person and I hope he gets some rest to recover from all the beatings. If he does come back that would be great if he can move the ball.

Higgins gets his shot… Hopefully he can get the offense moving, but I don’t see much improvement other than it’s fresh meat for defenders to tee off on.
If the Oline can’t protect and the WRs can’t get open, it doesn’t really matter who’s at QB. Chow hasn’t been able to call many 7 or 9 step drops, and 12-17 yard routes because the line hasn’t been able to give the time for longer developing plays to work.
In any case, I think UH has a chance to win, not because of QB play, but by running the ball. Air Force’s run defense has been porous. UNLV ran the ball all over Air Force. Air Force ranks #109 in run defense this year and gives up nearly 5 yards/carry. UH should be able to run it up and down the field with Gregory/Iosefa/Lister.
The defense will probably get cut up vs the option again, but if they can win the turnover battle, and can hold Air Force to FGs in the red zone, I think they pull off the upset.
Being the optimist: UH wins 28-27 and the game ends 20 minutes early on it’s 3 hr time block on ESPN2.

I disagree with you. It does matter who the QB is and what he can do when the pocket falls apart or the receivers aren’t free. A quick thinking and very mobile QB can scramble and get yardage. A robotic QB gets no yardage or will lose yardage. You gotta get those downs and keep the offense in the game.
The QB matters. He is the key player in the game.

I don’t expect HIggins to perform Roy Hobbs like feats just hopes he’s the catalyst that inspires his team mates to get off the snide. Every position on both sides of the ball has to pickup their game, quit making mental errors and do what you’re suppose to do on any given play.
He has to show he’s capable of doing his job, inspire others that they’re capable to doing theirs. Lead, lead, lead.
Physical mistakes willl happen. Show the team a way to overcome them.
A quick thinking and mobile QB with a weak offensive line can also get spied on by a LB or a safety.
Best of luck to Jeremy Higgins. I hope the team can rally behind him and give a little extra effort in protecting and getting open. He can’t be a miracle man we’ve been looking for without plenty of support, offense, defense, and ST. It will be good to see an extra effort from everyone.

One BIG thing in his favor is his height at 6’3″ which is the proto-typical size that Chow has been around recently. Maybe that’s the reason he likes SS so much.

177. I don’t know if you watch nfl very often but qbs like Big Ben, jay cutler , and Aaron Rodgers do not have good o line play. as the qb, u need to make an adjustment . SS needs to at the very least know when to tuck and run , use feet to buy time, or throw it away a lot quicker..
And let me just say once and for all: Graves is a baller. He may not be pretty and he may not stay in system all the time, but he makes plays. He has that fire and that never say die attitude that makes him a natural leader. Guys would play for him, whereas I don’t necessarily see that with SS. That’s not a knock on SS. The ability to inspire others is something you’re born with or not.
And even if Graves is not the guy for QB, he should be getting reps at wideout because he’s got everything there too, speed and hands. I realize we are not running wide open anymore, but why is it considered a good thing that we are using tight ends as slotbacks? Yeah, the D is packing the box so let’s put in another possession receiver so they have even less fear of us going up top.

The point of having a more mobile QB isn’t necessarily to take off down the field. I’m not expecting Scam Newton. But having a QB who can feel the rush and slide to avoid it can help extend drives.
Higgins is not the savior, the season is already lost. It’s just nice and finally time to give this horrendous offense a new leader to move the ball. Can Higgins move the ball effectively, we shall see. Does he give us a better chance to put the football in the endzone, I think so. He’s led some nice scoring drives and has been looking pretty accurate spreading the ball around nicely, which helps everyone the OLine, receivers, etc… Against 2nd team defenses, who cares, Schroeder’s been up against 2nd team defenses in the second half the whole season and still hasn’t proven he can get the ball moving in the right direction. Higgins does not throw the prettiest ball or has the quickest feet but his moxy and pocket presence helps everyone out, something Schroeder has yet to prove this season. Not saying Higgins is the better QB but he does have a better understanding during game situations to get the ball moving down field. Regardless I hope they both do well enough in the game to pull out a win. Never expecting miracles just respectable play and some kind of improvement in getting the ball into the dayum endzone!

But when SS hands Colorado ST the game on a platter, that should have been a turning point in which Chow should have thought about putting in a new QB.

I don’t think ST feels that way about what he says. I think for the most part with him being at just about every practice and getting the inside scoops from coaches and players, he does have more of a true insight of what’s really going on. The fact though that when certain individuals state their opinion or assessment and they have their personal bandwagon cheerleaders is what’s funny.
194. Strong points. But if WRs arent running correct routes, which I dont have the answer to, that falls on the coaches. We are over half way through the season and that shouldnt be a game to game issue. That’s almost as pathetic as our special teams break downs last year.
2nd string or not, it did seem like Higgins had chemistry with his WRs and when guys werent open, he at least gained positive yardage up the middle. His long release is a concern though as it lead to 1 fumble.

I may see another. Where we may differ in opinions is that I don’t take too much into account on how a player looks at practice if he is not performing in the game. I like Miah, but he hasn’t been consistent at all this year. Just because he practices well doesn’t mean he is making plays in the game. A change has been made I noticed. He isn’t on the field as often. So if that applies to WRs, it should apply to all positions including QB.
#195 the crowd went wild (small kine) during the boise game. i was in a daze, then i noticed chow changed qb’s. if hawaii wasn’t so generous with the ball, they probably would have only lost by 3 td’s and not 5. maybe UH needs to get a different brand of football, the one’s they are using may be slicker than others.
#197 yes, it’s coaching. same thing happened when ron lee was coaching the receivers. nothing happened. basically just drawing a paycheck. who coaches the receivers now? not doing a good job. receivers keep running out of bounds on their own making them ineligible receivers, no in game adjustments on routes vs defensive schemes, and most of all receivers keep dropping the stupid ball. the receivers coach should be buying the students pizza during the game, because he obviously isn’t doing much else.
Whatever and however things work out for Jordan Wynn with UH, JMHO that Chow needs to find a way to officially hire former Warrior great (and 8-year NFL vet) Ashley Lelie on the coaching staff as the WR coach….to expand on what’s he’s already doing with the Warrior receivers.
Ashley would be great asset for recruiting…..both locally and on mainland…..as a former local HS product and walk-on….who earned a full scholie as a starter….and became the go-to star receiver…..and then got picked in the 1st Round of the NFL Draft (19th overall selection)….and played 8 full seasons in the NFL.
Well spoken and very knowledgeable…..having played first-hand in multiple offensive sets (R&S, Pro Set, West Coast, etc.).
Can’t ask for a better ambassador for Warrior football recruiting than a former Warrior and NFLer like Ashley!
Yes, Higgins is not the savior. Hoping for a victory is a bit of a reach. Higgins not playing defense, and we’re gonna be having all kinds of problems defending the option.
HOWEVER, I do hope that Higgins can take control of the offense….put together some drives, and put some points on the board. Or at the least, please….go thru the progressions and LOOK at the second and third options on passing plays (with time permitting), and not stare down ONE receiver and attempt to throw to him.
Otherwise, the only guy having a career day tomorrow will be Dunnachie, and maybe Edwards….who will get more than his fair share of KO return attempts.
I don’t care who plays QB or what offense Chow employs…The Bottom-line is Wins…Nobody wants a loser and moreover, a loser that gets his butt kicked every weekend. All you get is people who feel sorry and a very losing program. Chow needs to use his reputed skills and intelligence to get the “best” of what he has and start winning games. I don’t care if he wants to run the Hula-T, option, spread, or run & shoot…Show some creativity.
Lastly, the players should never be blamed…They play the game at the best of their abilities. They put it on the line for this State and the University. How well they play is often dictated by the coaching…
If the WR are constantly running the “wrong routes” and being counseled by Ashley or whomever the WR coach is it not time for them to get some bench time?
Notice how the WR continue to stay in the game even when running wrong routes? Do they feel that others cannot take their place and have the attitude “I can do whatever I want?” If so, then it’s time to find a new WR, even one less talented or slower but runs routes well with good hands, or find a new receivers coach.
Must give Boise St coaching staff due credit for their “who plays philosophy” – start them early and continue their training so the palyers and team are always ready to compete. Thus, only having to “re-load” rather than UH’s constant “rebuild”, year after year after year.
Can I do better? I don’t know, but that does not mean I cannot make positive observations and expressions based on all my knowledge and experiences in other areas such as education, being led and being a leader, working skills, management skills, people skills, etc.

The fact is….that certain WRs haven’t given their best effort with SS at helm…..since they believer that the ball won’t be thrown their way…..but instead have played harder and with more effort when JH has gone in these past 2 games.
I think once Jace, Vander, and Hauns leave after this season Coach Gib will still have a solid foundation to work with. Coach will have another strong triple threat in Standhardinger, Fotu, and Spearman. Shamburger should be able to step right in once Jace vacates and take over the reigns at point while Roop still learns the ropes. Ozzy could play a bigger role. Valdes could see significant minutes and provide some nice above the rim highlights. I like Jawato and Jefferson too. One guy I would like to see step up a bit more though is Davis Rozitis. Also hoping Dressler sheds a few and gains some muscle, works hard on his footwork and speed, cause he could be a banger with Fotu down low.

That is in a way true. I’ve seen it happen before when a receiver is consistently open and isn’t getting the ball thrown his way. After awhile the receiver doesn’t go as hard or make much of an effort going after the ball. I hope this isn’t the case, but there are some who would be like screw this and just not care anymore or have confidence in the QB. At this point the receivers are probably thinking frikk there goes another sack, or another fumble, or another overthrown ball, etc…

The funny thing is we asked for a QB change and we get a QB change. Then we still complain about it? That doesn’t even make sense, does it? It’s hard for all of us to watch our beloved Warriors get there butts handed to them so far this season. Stephen Tsai is right we got what we wanted, so be happy and lets see what happens. Also lets look at what has been positive about Warrior Football?
#1 The defense has improved and I could see it against Boise State. Don’t let the score fool you, the turnovers led to alot of the points. I didn’t think Kaumeyer D would work but he has made adjustments and the players are just now starting to grasp the new defensive system. It took almost the whole season but better late than never, right?
#2 Mike Edwards is a beast! Nuff Said! Marrell Jackson, Jerrol Garcia Williams, Tavita Woodard, Beau Yap, Dee Maggit, Haku C and the rest of the Defense deserve some praise from us the Warrior Fans. This young men play there tails off on defense!
#3 Sean Schroeder has the heart of a champion and is tough as nails! He has been beat down this season from hit after hit from opposing defenses. It took a toll on him physically and mentally but no matter what SS has my respect. Kudos SS take this time to heal up. Higgins has fresh legs and does deserve to start, how he will perform against starting defensive line up, we shall see? But I like what I’ve seen so far from Higgins at the end of the Fresno and Boise games, so go get ’em Higgins!
#4 The coaching staff are making adjustments and the past 3 games Chow has called a great offensive game. The learning curve is taking a little longer on the offensive side for many reasons, but the big one is the forsaken injury bug! But it will click and the light bulb will turn on just like it did with the RnS, give the players time to grasp the offense. But all the coaches are doing a excellent job of what they have to work with such as being in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and transition year with players that where recruited for the RnS. Despite what some folks think Chow and his staff are top notch.
#5 Special Teams have been solid, except for a few hicups like the fumbles. But that can be cleaned up. But the Kicking game has improved a lot from last years debace.
#6 Air Force is in for a game this week, the Warriors just might shock them and pull out a close win! I know for sure the Warriors Defense will show up! Special teams will show up! I doubt AF will kick the ball to Mike Edwards very much, which would be smart! Higgins and the Offense looks promising but we will see. Go Warriors!

I’m not the student of the game that many here are. We have some smart folks analyzing UH’s strategies no matter who’s coaching and/or who starts. I learn a lot from reading their posts, they make watching the game all the more meaningful to me.
My two cents – Stephen Tsai hasn’t missed a practice or game for 11 going on 12 seasons. If he’s taking the time to share his perceptions, I’ll defer to his opinion. Love to read everybody elses opinions, respect them too. What’s different about today’s discussions was the fact that Tsai was very thourough at explaining the Coach’s mindset and what Tsai also sees at practice. Like A poster famously once said, believe what you see (in this case, read) with your own eyes.
SS deserves an award for grit and courage. A total stranger told me that at Safeway this morning and he’s right. OTOH, I like the spark that Higgins brings to the game, and I love the spark in his eyes when you see him being interviewed on the TV sports reports. I like our chances with him as QB1 against Air Force. Lastly, I would love to see Graves get some game time in any way shape or form. The kid IS a baller and he’s the consumate Warrior.

The QB has to trust the receiver to do what he’s taught to get open. BUT if the QB doesn’t trust the receiver, then he’ll most likely throw the ball to another receiver….even if the receiver does get open….or even take a sack.
The receiver is also supposed to trust the QB that the ball will be thrown if he does what he’s supposed to do to get open. BUT….the receiver starts going through the motions….when the ball isn’t thrown to him…..’cuz he knows that the QB doesn’t even look his way in the pre-snap reads…..so he knows that the QB won’t throw the ball his way….even if he does what he’s supposed to do. On the rare occasion that the QB actually throws the ball to the receiver…..the receiver usually isn’t where he’s supposed to be….and/or isn’t ready to make a play on the ball…..resulting in an bad incompletion….or even worse an INT.
This same mutual trust is also supposed to exist between the QB and the OL….but just hasn’t developed throughout the season…..especially with the musical chair starting OL line-up for every game.
Wish that I were just guessing or speculating that this is what’s going on…..BUT the fact is….that I “know” that this is what has been going on…..at least for past few games.

While Shutter might be most athletic among the top 3 QBs, he’s also probably the least durable…..having a history of being knocked out of games during his HS career….twice against Kamehameha-Kapalama….once each his junior and senior seasons when getting sacked.
While less athletic, Higgins probably has better pocket awareness to avoid the bigger hits.

After all Shutter is supposedly the best athlete of the three QBs.
Also the strongest arm of the three. I have no problem with Higgins but would like what Shutter and his arm could bring to the table.
Air Force is beatable.
Darn these miliutary academies. They don’t out muscle their opponents they out tactical them. Each offensive play is like a commado raid with each team member having a specific assignment to carry out. They look for weaknesses to exploit. Executing their plays with precision is their hallmark. They count on their opponents being a half step slow thinking about their assignments rather than just knowing and reacting.
Our D has to see and do. Can’t be thinking too much out there.
On O we’re gonna have to use our physical superiority(size) to cancel their tactics. Turn this game into a slugfest. Establishing the run and hitting them with play action is doable against this team. Patience in this game is going to be a virtual.

Rozitis has been in the program from the beginning, he’s not in the game because Coach needs him to bang and he’s not a banger. He’s more like a 3 Toni Kukoc type with a Euro game but I don’t know, he doesn’t seem aggresive. He needs to step up and work on his game so he can see playing time. I like Rozitis and I feel his height can be utilized in some capacity but he just seems to lack some aggression I guess.

If the Oline isn’t protecting the QB, and the receivers aren’t getting open, the UH QB that starts tomorrow should be the most mobile QB that can get extra yards when the pocket collapses.
That QB was too busy in practice portraying the AF QB scoring 5 touchdowns against our first unit defense. Hmmmm . . . and he is a receiver???
Inch for inch I thought Davis “foul a minute” Rozitis was the physically weakest player last year. Thought his strenghts were shot blocking, decent big man passer and how quick he got down court in transition(for a 7 footer).
My impression of the team is Vander and Fotu’s game will be the most consistant regardless of the opponent. Others will have up and down games depending on the strenght of the opponent. It’s not surprising that when you expend a lot of energy guarding a quality player your offense may drop off. Or when you have a quality defender on you you won’t have as many good looks.
Vander still holds the ball too long at certain times but like the range he’s developed on his jumper. Fotu has a simple game not too many moving parts. Play D, rebound and quick outlet, catch the ball low make a move – score or get to FT line.
Like what I’m seeing. Hope the zone is effective against IL. We have a very good chance of winning if IL can’t force us out of it.
My assessment on why the receivers might be dropping the ball is because SS lets his ball hang n receivers r afraid of getting hit. SS likes to throw in tights spaces with no zip on his passes. Just my 2cents.
241. This is a football blog. Our team has 0 wins against D1 opponents. Do you expect fans to be talking about how hard everyone is playing? Do you expect us to be talking about the awesome offense and defense on the field? Get real man. #252 not seeing what you are seeing with fotu. he had 3 rebounds in 20+ minutes in game 2 and 4 rebounds in 20+ minutes in game 3. probably was a fluke when he grabbed 15 in game 1. besides look who they played. probably some of the local teams (hpu, byuh) could win against the teams that was in the outrigger. the team is exactly the sam as last year, just a different lineup. 21 turnovers against maryland stinky shore, 17 against arkansas pine tree, and 17 agains lanakila baptist. i bet the team will average more turnovers than the number of wins they get.
if hawaii plays well and hangs with illinois and unlv, then i might agree. but so far it’s the same old song and dance, just with new members.
it’s hard to get recruits to come to hawaii. puts in perspective just how good riley wallace was as a coach.

if people have complaints and have the need to whine because they don’t like how things are run, or coach isn’t coaching “their way”, voice your opinion, say your peace and get over it and move on. and if that’s not good enough fill an out an application for HC.

if any of us “i know how chows” gets hired i’ll support them same way i’m giving chow a chance because i know it takes time. even if coach wasn’t chow whoever the coach is i know it would take time. if people not happy with the results do all you can to fire chow-simple enough?
the main point is complaining is fine-totally understandable and agreeable, but must people whine all the time? i think that’s what people are getting tired of. a bad season is one thing, complaining and complimenting both are needed, but i think we can all agree there’s no whining in football 🙂

Still only one defensive lineman recruit, Tuaau. We need 4 or 5 more, ready to play right away. And we should sure like to get 1 or 2 pass rushers. Heck, we need a lot of play makers too. Kennedy Tulimasealii, where are you? Hawaii needs you. You can be the second coming of Levi Stanley.

I suppose the Warriors are counting on the return of several DEs from injuries next season. But still, they should pick up a couple JuCo players for insurance. Oline needs a couple, especially on the blindside. WR? maybe…

hate to say it but i think the d needs the pick of the litter.
…and that means perhaps another slow year next year with the O. let’s hope the O gets experience from this year and that can carry them if the d can keep it close next year.
the best recruit sometimes is experience.
It may sound crazy, but I like our LBs and DBs next year. I am confident our freshmen will blossom into some really good players. I think we need to get more stout up front on the D line.
go-b. This is the first year I don’t have s-tix since the 70s. Only saw the last two games via webcast. Have tix for IL game.
Like the way Fotu plays. Will stand by my assessment of him. He could have sat out the first 4 games(HPU included) and the Bows still would have dominated. I really feel he has the game that can hold up against more physically talented teams.
Not saying he’s going to dominate in his first year but he shows that promise. Remember Vander’s first year here? He was raw but you could see his potential. Fotu’s game now is way ahead of Vander’s first. Expect Gib to be tighter with PT for some but not with Fotu. They’ll need his physicality in this one.

Now this is the kind of post that I could do without. It is dismissive of all past accomplishments and full of needlessly negative future predictions. And then to top things off, the poster says he “might” change his mind if the team can play with Illinois and #18 UNLV in LV. Hey, if those things happen, don’t bother. The bandwagon will be full.
#263, +1 The main reason I brought this up and have been repeating it is because this blog is becoming like the Scout message board. I’ve noticed that quite a few of the people who had logical well thought out comments and opinions no longer post here. They have been replaced by the “vocal” cry baby whiners.
I have never said a negative opinion was bad but a person does not have to whine and repeat the same rant over and over and over to get their point across.
Part of the reason is that the Scout board winners are now posting here. The people who got banned for sock puppets on that board have brought their sock puppets to this blog. The other reason is that the people are who they are, they like to complain, some of them they live in the past, some of them are clueless but they are who they are. I have no problem with that as long as a post has logic to back it up and and is not “full” of ridiculous assumptions that are repeated over and over and over.

According the Insights broadcast this evening, the new Director of Athletics will be named in early December. However, no one has a clue as to who is going to named. I gather that the finalists are not going to meet with anyone other than the committee. Mucho baddo.

#272, we’ve been preaching it all year… Chow has some very promising freshmen that are getting valuable playing time. Under normal circumstances, many would be redshirting because they just aren’t big enough for D1 football. I think they have the talent, just not the size yet.
That being said, Garcia-Williams, Merrel Jackson, Ben Fonua, and Lance Williams all look like very good players once they put some weight on. At the D1 level, a 225lb LB isn’t going to shed a 300+lb Olinemen and make any plays. In today’s game, a 285lb DT has no chance vs double teams.
Chow’s 1st offseason strength & conditioning program will be critical for the program for 2013 and beyond. Big Tommy has his work cut out for him once the season ends.
Regarding the Dline… Chow has two nice looking Dlinemen committed already and look like they could start immediately. There are a few more that have offers out and UH is in contention for. Add in a healthy Samia, Friel, and everybody else gets stronger, then the Dline will be vastly improved.
2012 is a washout year… nobody expected it to be this bad, but UH gotta take its lumps…
For those complaining about Chow as a coach…. what were you expecting this team to be if Mack was riding out his final year on contract??? I’m sure Graves could run the offense, but he’s a significant dropoff from Moniz and his only win last year was vs an awful Tulane and Shane Austin had to come in and save the win.
If Mack were still here and taking into account the defensive performance (which would be the similar because there wasn’t any change to the defensive scheme)… UH still loses to USC, UNR, BYU, SDSU, Fresno & Boise for sure, UH still beats Lamar for sure, and UH might have beaten CSU and UNM… That means Mack would probably by 3-6 at this point in the season of you count CSU and UNM as wins.
Folks, 3-6 isn’t getting it done and certainly is not going to earn Mack a contract extension. Thus, UH would be searching for coach at the end of 2012. Even worse, having a lame duck coach is the worst possible scenario for any team/franchise in any sport (college or professional). A lame duck coach basically renders the entire recruiting class hostage and most recruits will not commit to a team where they know the coach isn’t going to be there when they arrive.
It’s no coincidence that UH had 10 wins and co-WAC champions in 2010, and the 2010 UH roster was led by many of Jones’ upperclassmen recruits.
WR: Salas, Pilares & Pollard; OL: Hansen, Ginlack, Thomas & Letuli; DL: Purcell & Meatoga; LB: Lolotai & Paredes; DB: Torres & Silva were all Jones’ recruits starting in 2010. Moniz, Green, Tiwanak, Bradley, Tuipulotu, Umu, Brown, Davis & Bryant were the other starters (ALL TRANSFERS recruited by Mack). Not a single McMackin prep recruit was a regular starter during the co-WAC championship year.
* 2010 was Mack’s 3rd year as coach and had ZERO prep recruits starting.
** Looking back at 2009’s roster and stats, Mack had ZERO prep recruits starting.
** As the last of Jones’ recruits graduated, so did Mack’s best transfer recruits. Mack’s poor HS recruiting got exposed in 2011 and now the team is suffering because of the lack of quality upperclassmen.
