Pollard to Jets, Liko Satele to Cardinals

pol1

Former Warrior receiver Royce Pollard is in an empire state of mind.

Pollard has accepted in invitation to compete in the New York Jets’ rookie mini camp this coming weekend, according to his father, Anthony Pollard.

Liko Satele has been invited to the Arizona Cardinals’ rookie camp. Satele will be competing at outside linebacker.

It was no surprise that:

• A No. 1 quarterback was not named following spring training. The competition continues this summer.

• Defensive tackle Kaniela Tuipulotu, once considered the Warriors’ top draft prospect, did not receive a free-agent offer yesterday. Tuipulotu will need more time to recover from a shoulder injury. He would not have been ready for the rookie mini-camps in the next two weeks. He said he hopes to sign a free-agent deal before the start of the NFL’s training camps in July.

Tavita Woodard has his choice of playing defensive end or tight end. The feeling is he will play tight end. There were times he appeared to be swimming, but enough times where he provides a solid blocker and a dependable target.

There is a need for offensive linemen, but it appears Calen Friel will remain on the defensive line. The Warrior Bowl showed Friel is a fierce defender.

Iread that Kellen Moore will be going to the Detroit Lions as a free agent. I wish him well and hope that he does good. He sure was a steady and accurate qb for Boise. I wonder how they will do without him.

  14. krump1_AKA_protector April 29, 2012 8:36 am

Congrats to all former Warriors pursuing their dreams! Only wish Tavita and Calen had twin brothers. Maybe these guys might “iron man” it for certain games?

  15. Bryson April 29, 2012 8:36 am

Definetly not a surprise it almost seemed like D.Graves is going backwards…or it could be that he’s not improving and the other guys are catching up…I do have to say Higgins looked the most natural on roll outs and PA should he improve his accuracy there is a good chance he may start…Woosley was impressive but then again he only got to throw 5 passes he did complete 4/5 though it would be interesting to see what he could do with more reps…and of course there is still the Dark Horse in all of this Cayman Shutter if he does get reinstated by fall camp he could very well be The One….

  24. krump1_AKA_protector April 29, 2012 8:48 am

    Haleakala on #13,

I also wish Kellen Moore well. It makes me sick that one of the most winningest and effective NCAA QBs of all time was not drafted because NFL teams remain dogmatic and short-sighted about drafting QBs with less than prototypical stature. How can anyone forget how he took down Oklahoma in

in that memorable BCS shoot-out which struck a blow for non-AQ conferences and non-BCS teams across the nation?

    Good Sunday morning Tsaiko prognosticators.

Roll(s) Royce Pollard is going to the Big Apple? Maybe the *Donald* will feature him and Tebow on his next Celeb Apprentice show.

New York is a great ‘stage’ for Royce to showcase his receiving talent.

    Good morning everyone!

  41. Da Punchbowl Kid April 29, 2012 9:45 am

A QB quandry? In Chow we chrust. One gets the feeling he can craft an offense to suit personnel strengths.

Somebody needs to step up soon. The Shutter situation looms large.

  42. wafan April 29, 2012 9:46 am

Dang it. Both Wahine Sand VolleyBow teams got bounced from the tournament.

    Shucks.

  43. WarriorNY April 29, 2012 9:46 am

I really hope Royce makes the team. I think he was one of the most underrated WR we ever had. The jets need a WR badly. I look forward to watching him live.

  44. wafan April 29, 2012 9:47 am

    Interesting quandry with the qb’s.

    Someone must step up soon!

Who wants to be the leader?!?!

  45. Ipu Man April 29, 2012 9:51 am

    Good morning Tsaikos!

Hope everyone is having a good Sunday!

Congrats to the Wahine! It was a nail-biter first game, which made the sweep that much sweeter. That must’ve been a looooong flight home for Margie.

Congrats to all the former Warriors whose dreams of playing on Sundays are still alive. Work hard and show the coaches what we all know you have.

*tsigh* Now that softball is pau, no more UH games for me till volleyball in August (not a big baseball spectator fan). Withdrawal symptoms are already setting in.

  49. Stephen Tsai April 29, 2012 10:15 am

It’s not really a matter of who wants to be the leader. Graves and Higgins are both good leaders. Both have learned the offense, now it’s a matter of trusting it. There is at least one extra blocker, so if everyone does the job, the protection will be there. This offense has more plays, more formations, more options. It’s not all on the QB. Both guys know this.

  50. Stephen Tsai April 29, 2012 10:16 am

    Ipu:

Funny you should mention that because I think Pollard was named after the car.

  58. kkv3000 April 29, 2012 10:32 am

ST, I totally agree with #50. After Maui, I came away with the realization that this is a more sophisticated or complex offense. The angles of the receiver routes are all different, the addition of the tight end coming from the line of scrimmage bringing delayed and mis-direction routes, the running backs being more involved in the passing routes, having a running game that has to be accounted for by the defense, roll-out passing game, seems an addition of more crossing routes by the slots for man to man coverage, in addition the threat of quarterback draws. To me this adds up to many more offensive weapons and less pressure on the QB.

  59. Stephen Tsai April 29, 2012 10:33 am

OK, now I know the song. Didn’t know the name of the group. Thanks.

  60. Stephen Tsai April 29, 2012 10:34 am

And look for the hot receiver.

    Metaphorically speaking, of course.

  61. Da Punchbowl Kid April 29, 2012 10:36 am

Spiral “Starecase”? You are such a wealth of infomation d1! We used to have just such a “starecase” in the old library at school. For some reason, the tables next to those stairs were always packed with guys even if the rest of tables throughout the library were open. Some serious “studying” going on when some naive, usually Freshman or Sophmore wahine used those stairs. 😆

  62. Da Punchbowl Kid April 29, 2012 10:38 am

Kekoa would know which one I’m talking about, in the old Konia library.

  63. Stephen Tsai April 29, 2012 10:41 am

I remember at Colorado State, the visiting locker room in Moby had a spiral staircase that led to nothing. It befuddled visiting teams.

Then again, CSU was one of the first to paint visiting locker rooms in pink.

Also, Al, I still am wondering on the “other” NC 🙂

Finally, Al, hoe do you compare Camelia vs Shillawon

    Poof…

  66. RedZone April 29, 2012 10:59 am

I hope that a leader will emerge on the oline. I am more worried about the fullback position. It was the fullbacks huge block that won Utah the bowl game at the end. He just smothered the linebacker.

  67. Stephen Tsai April 29, 2012 11:00 am

Here’s an under-the-radar player: Daniel Yoshiki of Saint Louis School.

He’s 6-4, about 220-225, and will play tight end for the Crusaders in the fall.

He did not play as a sophomore in 2011 because he transferred. UH coaches already know about him. He attended practices the past week.

  68. Stephen Tsai April 29, 2012 11:04 am

    Here’s another one: There’s a Damien freshman who’s about 6-6, maybe a little taller.

    He’s Alvis Satele’s nephew.

  69. d1shima April 29, 2012 11:07 am

    TE for SLS?

    Hmmm…

  70. RedZone April 29, 2012 11:17 am

Wow that Damien freshman must really standout when the team is on the field. Their players are really small.

  71. kapakahi April 29, 2012 11:22 am

    #69 & #71,

Couldn’t help but see him with Alvis & Liko on Friday night. Legit 6’6″ height with nice long athletic frame.

  72. kapakahi April 29, 2012 11:25 am

Depending on Cravens’ situation, perfect scenario would be for Tavita to move back to DE…..IF and when twin bro Tana becomes eligible and joins team as TE.

Na Wahine Water Polo finishes MPSF season in eight place under first year HC Maureen Cole. They concluded their regular season 0-7, and were swept in the MPSF championships this weekend finishing 0-3, with losses to #1 seed Stanford, Arizona State and San Jose State.

  93. Ipu Man April 29, 2012 2:32 pm

What is the “history” of wahine water polo in Hawaii?

Does it go back to the 70’s and beyond?

If so, there must be some good vibes for that as a sport to support.

If only a few years old, maybe they should try another similar sport,

    Jm:

Time to get Oceanic. Things soon will be happening.

  95. seasoned adviser April 29, 2012 2:37 pm

    a message for Cayman.

a DUI presents 2 legal problems for the accused.

    1. the ADLRO (Administrative Driver’s License Revocaton Office) is a “separate” process for the accused. 2. the district court is a “separate” process for the same accused. the end result in each process is not set in stone, and can be unpredictable.

on top of that, in this case, we have the Coach Chow intangible. the feeling, without knowing, the Coach Chow vibe puts the case in flux. Coach doesn’t know what the end result will be in the ADLRO process. Nor does he know what the end result will be in the DUI process. he’s thinking about the program, and will not be held hostage by any player who is being accused and being processed in 2 systems. for Coach to take action now when the end results are not in puts Coach Chow against the wall, even if he has a good idea/knows what the evidence likely will be in the case. how the cases play out in both forums will put his decision to reinstate now in either a favorable or unfavorable light.

I can attest from personal knowledge to 2 recent examples where the 291C-61E HRS accusations against Defendant in the ADLRO forum “slipped” through the cracks, and one in the district court forum also slipped through the crack. but the bottom line is that in one of these cases a “good” results has still not resulted in a final result.

thinking about Cayman’s future in football this season, a “stall” in getting a final result does not bode well towards the idea of Cayman playing this season. that is happening now.

on the other hand, making a plea deal that results in “bad” result for Cayman in either the ADLRO and/or district court, even if he gets a Deferred Acceptance of Plea and goes to 14 hours of class and gets a alcohol assessment, etc., may or may not be the best legal advice for Cayman. gotta know the facts before you give him advice.

so, if was me, i’d be thinking about the best for the future for Cayman, not UH. but I’d be thinking about the legal advice 24/7, and I’d be advising Mr. Shutter to make the decision sooner than later.

    best of luck.

  96. BG April 29, 2012 2:43 pm

Folks, I’m not meaning to sound melodramatic or anything…fact is Alabama is making a big push this weekend. OK. Just like in any military operation or a team game. There are going to be ebbs and flows. Alabama is really bringing it and could feed off their momentum if we let them. If I were in the military, I’d say that a counter-attack has to be mounted to take away their steam and dishearten them. We need to have them get up in the morning saying, “What happened to our hard work over the weekend?!!” Bama should start letting up around 5-6pm our time and start going to bed. We need every Tsaiko and lurker to come on board around 7pm (HST) and use 702’s suggestion at #83 to beat back the attack. As fans we seldom have opportunities to so visibly support one of our scholar-athletes. We need to step forward and support. Mahalo

  106. NYUH April 29, 2012 6:13 pm

It doesn’t bother me that we have no number 1 QB. Its only spring. Doesn’t anyone remember last year? Moniz was overplayed, and when he went down, nobody was prepared to take his place. No Hawaii Bowl and Mack and Rolo are shipped off to Nevada for their screw up. Am I wrong? Somebody set me straight if that wasn’t what happened last year?

  107. Florance Sanda April 29, 2012 6:22 pm

good site!! You should start many more. I love all the info offered. I will stay tuned.

  108. BigHiloFan2 April 29, 2012 6:30 pm

    Keep voting people!

  110. cocobean April 29, 2012 6:38 pm

Really thought Vaughn and Corey had the best chances to be drafted. Both ran well, Vaughn at the combine, Corey at Pro Day.

The knock against Moore was his size but more so his arm strenght. The “experts” lauded his record. Said he had great anticipation and an uncanny knack to know where each of his receivers woud be at a given point during the play. Their big “but” was they doubted his style of play would translate well into the speeded up pro game.

BTW, wasn’t a guy named Zabranski(?) the BSU QB when they beat the Okies?

  111. Ipu Man April 29, 2012 6:50 pm

Jared Zabranski a heck of a qb, He left a year early to go to the combines before the draft. When he didn’t get picked up (and after he left the Texans) he came back to Boise for a year to finish his degree. Then went on to the CFL Edmunton, but left there after two unproductive years.

OK! We have some Tsaikos doing the voting thing! We’re soon going to hit 28% for Steph. Still have some Bama folks voting but they can’t gain more percentage points while we’re slowing making progress. Stay strong!

    tommui, (or was it al?)

Went to Maple Garden for dinner and sure enough, when they refilled the fried chicken, people were taking plates full. That must be one of the favs.

  124. Slugger April 29, 2012 8:39 pm

  126. tommui April 29, 2012 8:50 pm

    SLUGGER #127

Went to lunch at Maple Garden today (4/29) but only had a plate lunch – egg plant and, of course, fried chicken.

  127. tommui April 29, 2012 8:55 pm

SLUGGER #128 – not that you would cheat voting, but did you know, using Firefox (not fox fire), if you go to tools, and then go “private browsing”, you can go to the site as often as you wish and should you vote again, well, you can always hit Jimminy Cricket with a rolled-up newspaper.

  128. BG April 29, 2012 8:59 pm

We’re just about to 20.5%…just need a little help

  129. HiFlyer April 29, 2012 9:03 pm

  137. BG April 29, 2012 10:14 pm

28.8%!!!!! Totally unreal. I expect Bama to try a couple more times…at least one more huge push this coming weekend. Gotta come together and hold them off…and we will. I’m sore everywhere. Tomorrow is another day…bring’um on!

  138. Mad Dog April 29, 2012 10:30 pm

Another way to vote for Stephanie if you have Google Chrome.

    Copy the site address: http://www.seniorclassaward.com/vote/softball_2012/

Click the wrench symbol on the top right of the Google Chrome home page.

    Select “New Incognito Window”

On the address bar, select “Paste and Go”

That should get you to the voting page.

Vote and then close Google Chrome. That wipes out the cookie.

Reopen Google Chrome and repeat the process beginning with select “New Incognito Window”

  139. al April 29, 2012 10:30 pm

so utah st and sjsu are in the mwc.

  141. Mad Dog April 29, 2012 10:40 pm

  142. ai-eee-soos April 29, 2012 10:41 pm

it’s at 28.8++ – real close to 28.9 – someone go for it.

clocking out – no mo’ chikara.

will join all of you tomorrow evening.

  143. Stephen Tsai April 29, 2012 10:41 pm

If that’s the case, UH should try to get all of its teams in the MWC. Don’t want to be the part-timer.

  144. Stephen Tsai April 29, 2012 10:42 pm

Sucks to be New Mexico State now.

  145. al April 29, 2012 10:58 pm

…and poor boise state will be running around like a chicken without a head in search of a home for its olympic sports.

  147. Great online games April 29, 2012 11:02 pm

Thank you a lot for sharing this with all folks you really realize what you are speaking approximately! Bookmarked. Kindly additionally seek advice from my website =). We could have a link change agreement between us

  148. HawaiiMongoose April 29, 2012 11:02 pm

It sucks even worse to be Idaho, unfortunately for the Vandals.

  149. HawaiiMongoose April 29, 2012 11:10 pm

ST, I came across a message board rumor that UH has expressed willingness to consider moving to the MWC for Olympic sports if SDSU chooses to rejoin for all sports. That would give the conference three California and two Nevada schools, so travel for UH wouldn’t be bad. It’s only a rumor but the prospect of playing men’s basketball in a top-five hoops conference is pretty appealing.

  150. A-joe April 29, 2012 11:30 pm

    My concern is our team.

Who’s training today to be tomorrow’s Champion?

Who believes they will be part of the first team that brings a national championship to Hawaii? Who’s doing everything they can to make that happen?

    Who’s hungry?

Who’s never satisfied with increasing their potential?

Who’s acknowledging their weaknesses and taking measures to strengthening them?

    Who’s running?

    Lifting?

    Cross training?

    Reading their playbook?

    Watching film?

Asking coaches questions on improving their game? Practicing what they’ve been taught?

Motivating teammates to do the same?

    Who’s leading the charge?
