Rainbow Wahine win, advance
In a battle of polar styles, the Rainbow Wahine, who lead the nation in home runs, bashed slap-hitting Texas Tech, 7-1, to win the Stanford Regional and advance to the Super Regionals.

Great Morning All!
GO SOFTBOWS!
Stephen,
How was the wedding celebration?
GO WAHINE!!!
Good luck Wahine!
Go Bows
Morning, ST! How was the wedding?
Go Wahine!
Go Wahine!
Go Wahine!
Great wedding.
Jim Leahey was the M.C.
Had a fun time.
Unfortunately, the iPhoto on my laptop doesn’t work, so I can’t post any pictures until I get to the office.
More than ever, our continued prayers and aloha go out to Liane and the Horiuchi ‘ohana. Godspeed.
ST…honey and water for the hang….supposed to work… you see them drinking that stuff all the time on the K-dramas.
By the way, 14 more days until the last issue of The Advertiser.
Best wishes to the newlyweds!
Good Morning Gangeez! 🙂 🙂 🙂
As Braddah Joe said, prayers for Liane and her ohana.
mornin
Ralph:
from early morning post – hey, fella, up at 5am to start the laundry cause got palces to go today!!
Wel, well, good morning neighbor! Glad to see you up and around!
Slugger…did you send the showers over to the NorthShore?….Was about to get over to the worksite to do some clean up and now the showers are here….I guess got to stay home and listen to Wahine Softball then ….
Faye W:
Any chance related to the “Wai Boys” who went to UCLA in the late 30s?
Wai Boys = Francis, Conkling, Lambert and Robert.
Great, heart warming story by Lee Cataluna, who by the way hails from Koloa, Kauai – well at least her father – believe he was Kauai High class of 1956.
Here’s the link to view the Wahine game at 10AM. Go to list of events on the left hand side and at the bottom of the list, click to the second page of events. You’ll see the Hawaii and Tecxas Tech logos, click there.

GO WAHINE!!!
Not sure who that color comentator is for the Oregon game but ..she no make sense sometimes..
“if you decide to go then go…if you decide to stay then stay…”….huh?
Why does the ladies do all those hand signals, gestures after a play? They look like they had some training on one aircraft carrier!…Looks so…..”girlie”…
A-house –
I saw that article too. Agreed, great story.
ST:
While the publishing part of the Advertiser will close at 00:01 am on 6/7/2010, will the Advertiser’s internet site still be operational so we can log on to this blog?
Aloha Kakahiaka!
GO WAHINE!!!
Drats. wahine game doesn’t work in iPad.
Mahalos DPK..will be in the mountains today..after the showers subside…if you guys hear some yelling and stange noise up Kemo’o side, no worries das me listening to the game….
Dat Jen Yee pretty guud player..got some power and one guud mentality. Boots ground ball then follow up with one dinger…I like dat…
#23. That is the $64K question.
A-house –
That’s the $64million question these days.
I wonder if Stephen even knows.
GT..using the Easton “Synergy” bats …
LOL @ Liz!
Look at that, two great minds with the same thought. I adjusted my reply for inflation of course.
And good morning to you Ms. Lizzy!
So – why should we be surprised that mainstream announcers and writers are unaware of or dissing the Wahine records and accomplishments? Colt and our perfect season guys got the same treatment.
Reminds me of shopping: “Free shipping anywhere in the US.”
Oh yeah- except for Hawaii.
A-House.
Good question. I’m pretty sure The Advertiser online will go through Sunday, June 6.
Then it will go dark.
I know the new company bought the online rights, but, as I understand it, it won’t be using the Gannett online system. So, I’m not exactly sure that starting June 7 there will be any archived blog entries available on line.
I suppose I should find these things out tomorrow.
I’ll get back to you on it.
Fist bump to DPK!
I do know that Wednesday will be the last Warrior Beat Show featuring Leila Wai.
We haven’t decided if we’ll have Wai-less shows during Advertiser’s final week.
good morning tsaiko country
adding my good luck to sball wahine’s, go get um ladies. win win win
congrats to the men bball team for making it into the WAC playoff. same to the warrior men win win win
Ok time to get up and make fuud and kope and get ready for the Wahune game. Wonder if we will be UHU again. Better than huhu! 😆
Al Katahara or Don Wier:
Is Na Koa still planning to have the Aiea Intermediate parking available for 2010 and beyond?
Got an invitation yesterday to bid on line for the Koa Anuenue “reserved” stalls witin the stadium.
Need to get the word out ASAP to us “old timer” parkers at Aiea Intermediate.
Liz:
They should do that for every team.
UNLV = UNLVU
UCLA = UCLAU
Utah = UUU
#21, NSF,
Das cuz she stay go…
“Wai-less” internet?
Stephen –
Is the Princess going to be with the newly formed paper?
She will be missed terribly on the Warrior Beat Show.
If any local TV stations is looking for a sports reporter, Leila would be an awesome fit. She’s a great journalist, knows her stuff and looks like, well, a Princess on camera.
Slugger –
Das because she had when been go for go stay had been go!
Will there be Q&A from the viewers?
What happened to Wai?
DPK,
Get change? 😆
Just spoke with Scott Morifuji, our Web guru, and this is sort of interesting:
• The Advertiser will assign someone to work June 6 to post breaking stories, so, yes, you may still post comments that day.
• As of right now, there are no plans to shut down The Advertiser site. Doubt if there will be any new posts. At the minimum, the site will remain open to direct readers, if they need to be directed.
• The site might be a ghost town, to which I asked Scott: What happens if somebody tries to post after June 6? There is a possibility a post would be allowed.
Scott M. said things could change if he gets notices in the next couple of weeks. He’ll keep us posted.
DUCKS DUCKS DUCKS come on DUCKS
Jenn Yee with 29 home runs to date, last at bat unless Ga Tech wins
Yee grounded out, 1 out, bottom 7th, Ga tech down by 2 with 2 on in scoring position
14 days? that is so sad… so very sad…
Terrific AB for the GT girl
Wow! .667 w/ bases loaded!
They IW to “get” to her?
The WAC needs a Plan B.
What about the University of Denver? Sure, it does not field a football team. But it has a top lacrosse team (hmm, a sport the WAC should consider?).
The WAC might as well get proactive. While waiting for the shakeup in the football landscape, the WAC might as well try to plot a basketball plan.
So if Georgia Tech loses does that mean ESPN can’t tell anymore LIES about who’s the REAL home run hitting machine in the nation?
Talk about a look of disappointment….
UO pitcher….
Kazz,
That supposition looks to be in trouble right now…. 🙁
dpk todays game is listed on the first page. just scroll down to bottom of the list.

wafan – it’s Okie City, not Omaha. Omaha is basebaru.
Wafan,
I meant internet silence DURING Wahine games.
(I better stop now before I screw up Ricketts.)
KAZZ. Your sacrifice is duly noted and appreciated. 😆

Where are the Super Regionals being held. There’ll be eight of them next weekend with two teams each playing two out of three. Will the teams go to neutral fields? Will any of the teams be playing at home?
We tried to download Microsoft Silverlight on both of our computers but were unable to do so. That’s why we’re listening to the radio and doing hosuehold chores.
Wahine looking good.
WDoc – SuperRegionals – at the site of the higher seeded team. UH probably going to Tuscaloosa…

Great article in today’s advertiser about MBB recruiting and Coach Arnold. Looks very, very promising, but as Coach Gib noted that these players have not played any Division I ball yet so let’s not get too excited right now. However, the new recruits seem to have versatility, shooting ability, rebounding, hops, can run, and handle the ball. That’s a great start. It will then depend on how well and how soon the team will mesh into a real “TEAM” and if these players can share the ball.
You have to ask the question: How much the former coaching staff was spent on recruiting? Because it seems Arnold is recruiting every day. I have always said that in basketball you can turn around a program in one year given the right coach and getting a good recruiting class. It seems Arnold has done that. We still have to find out how well he can coach but we will find that out soon enough. However, I will go on a limb that this year basketball team will be a lot better in the win column than last year and will be a lot more exciting. Things are “looking up.”!
focus, focus, focus…got to keep the head in the game girls. we would be great to have an insurance run here.
somebody tell this announcer that a rally refers to while you are on offense.
Rickets has not been near the zone for awhile now.
perhaps its kaia time?

wow so intense didn’t notice its pasted noon. lunch time now
catch you guys latter on tonight
OK- whoever broke into my silver Prius with UH fan plates parked by Kekaha Beach has the BIG BACHI right now. Do yourself a favor and turn yourself in and return the stuff you stole.
4 pac-10 teams have already made the super regionals with 2 more in the drivers seat.
Congrats to the Softball Wahine for winning the regional & qualifying to play against Alabama! Keep the dream alive! Wouldn’t it be cool for the 20th-ranked team to beat the top-ranked team on their home turf?
Belated Happy Birthday to Kelly Majam!
Koakane wow so intense didn’t notice its pasted noon. lunch time now
catch you guys latter on tonight
Gramps, age does that to you, forgetting, losing track of time, not remembering that you asked people to join you at Nancy’s for Kope and now you probably going take a nap.
Liz?
Somebody broke into your car and stole UH fan plates?
Aiyah!!! Kahuna kahuna… batchi.. batchi… on ’em!
Congrats to Wahine softball!!!!!!!!
I’m glad that NMSU is honoring the military again this season.
Liz . . .
Sorry to hear about the theft and vandalism.
Gosh. Stuff like that just irritates me.
STEPHEN,
SOMEONE NEEDS TO CORRECT THE ARTICLE ABOUT THE WAHINE ADVANCING IN NCAA PLAY. THEY LIST KATIE GRIMES AS “Kelly Grimes.”
MAHALO!
Detailed analysis of La Tech, the #104 rated team according to this site.
D1 and Koakane,
You guys got it all wrong. The story tonight will NOT be about the Wahine pretty much having an easy time in the Stanford Regional and embarassing TTech and Stanford, BUT it will be about how SAD ESPN is that their darling 🙄 Jenny Yee 🙄 is GONE and that “their” #1 home run hitting team Georgia Tech is eliminated.
LizK,
People nowadays, NO RESPECT!!!!!!
Article about John Veniri.
Happy B-day K-Jam!!!!!!
UH (David) vs Bama ( Goliath)
We all know what happened.
Hope history repeats itself!!!!!!!
Majam is tied with Jen Yee for the most dingers in the NCAA right now. Bet she’ll take the lead in the next series… 🙂
Plates were left- 🙂
Must be lunch time.
Slugger,
M-Jam…………..29
Yee……………….29 (END OF SEASON)
Quiocho………..28
LizK,
Sorry to hear about the break-in. BIG BACHI on them. BAD KARMA!
The webcast of the Wahine game: they interviewed the pitching coach, not Ricketts. I didn’t continue watching after that, so I don’t know if anyone else was interviewed. My cousin from Maui called during the last pitch of the game…I shouldn’t have answered…tsigh…

Breakfast time.
Esme out!
Liz . . .
Important . . . they left the plate frames.
Hope no one innocent was injured in the vandalism and theft. And, that nothing important and irreplacable was taken.
Some people’s kids. Sheesh.
The Advertiser has it wrong. The Wahine beat the Red Raiders, not the Aggies. The Aggies are Texas A&M. Hello!
I was looking at the super regional bracket and there are some interesting things. First, of the 16 teams 6 are from the PAC-10 (assuming UDub holds its lead on NC) and 4 from the SEC. Also, all 16 teams advanced 3-0 out of their respective regionals — including the three un-seeded teams (again, assuming UDub holds its lead).
#85, Kazz,
Oregon took out Georgia Tech. The Ducks move on.
K, off to visit a classmate at Kuakini.
Esme & out…
Kazz-ur #287,
agree with you bout the snub by ESPN network….seems as if the Stanford regional was non-existant., but they’d always mention the regional goings-on involving Washington, etc.
Tried for hours on end to see if they’d mention or show scores involving UH and zippo!!!! What’s with that???
I gotta say, the PAC10 had what?, seven schools participating in the NCAA’s and looks like six(6) will be participating in the super regionals.
Like, WOW!!!, that’s saying something, eh??
And why the heck does UH land-up having to go almost clear across the country to play???..what?, ESPN had a hand in that decision-o-what?
Maybe they don’t like the way UH treats, WAC comissioner, (the loser-Benson).
Last I surveyed the WAC home page….there’s no mention of the Wahine Softball achievements. Just everything, BSU this, BSU that.
Thank you, Comish-Benson.
Congrats to the Wahine! Outstanding performance by Rodriguez – 4 for 4.
Hopefully the Star-Advertiser will pick-up the writer who penned the Wahine’s win in breaking news – Kelly Grimes and Texas Tech Aggies. They should take the people who made the advertiser #1. LOL
GO BASEBOWS!
We just got back from the big staff buffet.
Great stuff.
Now I’m ready for a nap.
Thanks again to UH and the blog readers for sending updates to our phones.
The NCAA softball bracket is what it is. ESPN controls what they cover and who they cover so my gripe is with them.
If I never see the Wahine play on TV again this season, I can live with that ONLY because not having to hear and see the disrespect of these ESPN people would make it worth it.
How many games have I seen so far since ALL regional play has started???? 0 games and half an inning of the Oregon and Georgia Tech game.
Again, I can live without TV coverage because quite frankly the way we’re perceived is pathetic.
Oh and who the heck is Amanda Tualuii and Jenna Gonzalez??????
ESPN.com…. Got some highly paid morons there…. 🙄
even trolls like the fact that the wahines win
coach mack should take notes
here i pledge a $1 a touch down next year
here take my $20 at the end of the year
It’s a good thing “Office Space” is on Comedy Central right now.
It should stop me from wanting to punch my wall.
ST,
Your thoughts on the big win and advancement into the Super Regionals?
I think we need to hear something from a journalist that actually knows this team and the correct spellings and identification of the players involved.
Slugger- they interviewed the coach during the game and Ricketts after the 10 minute intermission AFTER the game… when my son called with the news about the car…
espnu said that every super regional will be televised either on espn or espnu.
hiho mumphy the grouch checks in, has nothing to say about wahines, got to be happy so he must have runned over some small child
Congrats to the BaseBows! football score! 😯 🙄
ESPN-U announcer says every Super-Regional will be televised on an ESPN-family channel.
ralph wrong again no one answered the kope call so went to lunch.
Well, I can always put the TV on MUTE and listen to ESPN 1420 instead. I don’t care if there is a delay.
Commentator’s key to the matchup is that UH(U) hits lots of HR’s and ‘Bama’s Ace, Kelsi Dunn’s “go to” pitch is the riser. She went on to say that is problematic for Dunn but they can’t change her style and she’ll just have to stick with what got her there and hope she doesn’t give up too many dingers.
good sunday for the UH sball and bball teams. both victorious, congrats and go get um at your various tournys.
btw how will the sports administration divide up to catch the teams?
Kazz:
I knew there might be problems last week when it was announced the Stanford Regional was ranked No. 16. That meant the winner would play the winner of the No. 1-ranked Alabama Regional.
What I like is the Super Regionals are best-of-three series. If anything, UH can go with a two-pitcher rotation, if it wishes.
I think the Rainbow Wahine will be able to hit on the road. I also don’t think the crowd will be much of a factor. The toughest hecklers are students, and Alabama should be out of session, right?

#323 Kazz
Well, I can always put the TV on MUTE and listen to ESPN 1420 instead. I don’t care if there is a delay.
There you go Kazz! We need your MANA!!!
ST,
I think you are right that the crowd in Bama will NOT be a factor and as some eluded to that the girls MAY be caught up in the atmosphere and facilities at Bama, but I don’t think they’re gonna be distracted at all.
Heard Bobby Curran say that right after that final out to win the game today, it was a quick group huddle, cheer, and then the farewell handshake line and then to the dugout.
Sound real business-like and they’re focused.
I think the Wahine already proved they can SMASH it on the road. Stanford was 200 down the sides and 220 in the middle and I assume Bama is pretty much the same. No matter, the Wahine are good line drive hitters as well as long ball machines and we can keep it in the park and still win on occasion.
If anything I am concerned about the first game of the series as in all opening games in the WAC tourney and in the Stanford regional they came out “flat” by their own standards. Luckily for us we still won those games, but Bama ain’t no SJSU or UC Davis.
kazz,
espn is one thing, but even the local paper mispelled a wahine name…and it wasn’t even polynesian! aiyah!
mispelled…..aiyah!
misspelled!
hey, maybe i can get a job…..er…nevah mine.
D1,
Ralph’s scouting report is that Dunne can be hit. The riser and changeup as you mentioned.
The Wahine will have to be real picky with their pitch selection and hopefully get to her early.
A lot of pitchers and a lot of teams have NOT faced a team with our batting and slugging %s and I thought that Texas Tech would get shaken and they did.
HR to left had help from the wind. Nani’s triple was against the wind blowing in, but also R -> L. 3 of the HR’s were blasts! 😀
alabama’s field is the same dimensions as stanford’s.
ESPN.com had a BLURB about Amanda Tualuii and Jenna Gonzalez.
I don’t know how committed the boo boo on the Advertiser page as it said “Advertiser Staff”, but I can tell you for sure that it WASN’T Stephen Tsai.
BTW, they sure corrected that didn’t they!

Kazz ($150.00),
Bama has some power as well as pitching.
Wahines………..149
Geo Tech………118
Bama…………….100
Florida…………..100
Hey, now. Did the head Lady Bison call our Wahine a bunch of hacks?
And, if the Wahine pitching is so hittable why did Lipscomb lose three?
Odd statements.
ralph made the call when the game was on around 10
congrats to the Softbows….leadoff homer, gotta love that action 🙂
any updates from the Horiuchi family? prayers being prayed……..
I think that the Wahine have shown great composure. They believe in themselves and they understand what is at stake. Their goal is to get to College World Series and they know the task at hand. As with every team from Hawaii, they have to earn respect during the post season.
Playing Alabama will introduce the team to nation and will no doubt, give them the exposure and kudos they deserve. They will be a big underdog, but that has always suited Hawaii teams well. We love to “prove them wrong”.
When you get to this level of play everyone is great. It’s a best of three series and I think the Wahine feel very good about their chances. I feel good about their chances. Play with humility, play hard, put forth your best effort and good things will happen. Throw in a few ti leaves for luck and who knows?
Go Wahine!
kazz this is my comment after the game today. you taking the bet 😯
wafan: “odd” 🙂 statements carried over from the JJ years –“We do what we do” and “Believe.”
Actually Kazz might be able to help me out with remembering if Wahine gave Lipscomb chance by giving them a base on a Parnaby “illegal” pitch. 😛
348
sj . . .
HA! At least those statements from the JJ era do not sound like sour grapes.
I didn’t know Lipscomb’s coach was GIANT _ _ _ _ .
SJ,
If I remember correctly CAL was in that tourney too and it was forever ago. I think we beat Lipscomb the first time 3-0 and then mercy ruled them 8-0 and had a close game, but still won.
Twenty-two more wake ups to go.
While Hawai’i schools are already out they start in August (why?!?!).
Nearly down to just two hands and two feet!!!
Whoo-hoo!
Nytal!
The Big 10 may go to *20* teams if they get Texas?
The SEC has apparently already met with CBS about expansion–that makes sense, since they will want more money from CBS if they expand…and CBS *will* give them more money if they get teams like Texas.
Hiya- gotta run- but before I do, Brew808 sent us a bunch of pix from the Wahine Softball game!
http://lizkauai.blogspot.com/2010/05/wahine-softball-stanford-regional.html
Latahs!
Thank you Brew and Liz!
Mahalo βρεω808 and LizKauai!
Hoping get a group shot with βρεω808!
heheheh
Thanks Brew and LizK. Great pics.
d1,
Brew is the undercover Tsaiko.
Mahalo to Brew808 for the pics indeed!!!
Ladies and Gentlemen, it’s amazing. They say, “win and the respect will come”.
Well… anyone care to justify WHY ESPNU’s breakdown of the NCAA Super Regionals FAILED to mention ANYTHING about the home run record breaking Rainbow Wahine that DISPATCHED Stanford on their home field and EMBARRASSED Texas Tech, a team that did get mention on ESPN yesterday as a team that “deserves to be in the Stanford regional championship game” yet FAILED again to mention their opponent and the ONLY UNDEFEATED team in the Stanford regional in HAWAII??????
This will never change ladies and gentlemen… University of Hawaii athletes will ALWAYS have to go BEYOND winning to get any coverage. Poor Kelly Majam and Jessica Iwata have been studs and NOTHING. Yee this and Yee that. YEE IS GONE! 😆
Just winning is not enough for Hawaii to get national coverage or mention.
Mediocre performances and sloppy wins in big name conferences will continue to litter the airwaves and will continue to cash in on big TV contracts because that is supposedly what people want to see right???
Who cares about a softball team that IS nationally ranked, that can hit home runs from 1-9 in the order, and that have VANQUISHED opponents on their way to meet the #1 seeded team in the country.
No one can justify this and ANY attempt to do so is 21 slaps in the face to 21 hard working student athletes that represent the people of Hawaii and their university. Any justification of all this media discrimination equates to 4 backhanded chops to 4 hard working coaches that have done their jobs and MORE.
Teams in BIG conferences have a history of winning and they get the attention and $$$$ deals, can’t help that. But how can ANYONE justify that when a team that is NOT the traditional big ones starts making noise ALL YEAR LONG, that they continue to get the shaft so that they remain unknown and continue to miss out on national exposure to increase their recruiting range, to get some mainland fans, to be attractive for future broadcasts????
All of this HELPS teams become winners. Without this, teams remain short on recognition thus remaining short on a wider range of recruiting areas, thus remaining short on talent, and missing out on $$$$ TV deals in their conference.
It’s a suffocation of revenue sharing while maintaining the status quo of the rich STAYING richer.
RE: #359
d1島 — Hmmm–that exactly what I told him. Thanks for posting the pix, Liz. I’m kinda busy painting myself for the 2nd day and accidentally breaking/replacing 16″ clay pot in mom’s garden. Good thing I can escape by going to work tomorrow.
Congrats to the Wahine. I watched the stream…interesting that rascally brew808 was there in person. Way to represent, old friend!
Kanoa Leahey on KHON is about to serve some media justice and mention the Rainbow Wahine on the sports report in a few minutes.
Lord knows it will be the FIRST time today than anyone on TELEVISION even acknowledges what the Wahine did today.
ok, time to disconnect myself from the world for the next 4.5 hours.
Great pics, brew! Thankee Ms. Kiz fer puttin’ em up!
Eh, chawan_cut is “Lost”!
Kazz, i watched the 5:00 news on KHNL or whatever the combined news is called. they did talk about the Wahine and actually showed pictures too. then i watched Kanoa too. at least we getting local coverage. no worry, once we play Alabama, we’ll be on national tv and the announcers have to study our softbows. they may be shocked as to how small Kelly is and all her homeruns. also Gonzo has a lot too. and Iwata too and….. well, you get the picture. They will also be shocked that the softbows just walloped the former national record of 134. 149 and counting! we’ll take the wins over the homers though.
Kazz,
Mike Cherry did a piece on the Wahine & the BaseBows on the KGMB news already.
I’m just so tempted to go to AL to watch the Super-Regional…wish I could…
Maybe, the softball team doesn’t get the national respect, but at least each of its fans is in the know.
Sometimes, it’s better to be part of a niche market.
Thanks for the pics, Brew & LizK!
Yes I was referring to local news coverage as opposed to ESPN dropping the ball.
Maybe I gotta consider switching to watching tennis….
You’re welcome…. 😀
Did they interview the guy w/ the monkey on TV? The girls arrived too late to get the green Hawaii flag in as the back-drop.
Being generous – there were 20-30 Tech fans. The rest of the “red shirts” were Stanford Ushers. The remaining fans were all for the UH Wahine!!! 😆
Hey, Brew! Thanks for going (back) to Palo Alto to represent. Did you yell as loud as you did in Maples? 🙂
Congratulations Rainbow Wahine….wooo hoooo! You ladies are awesome!!!
I say lets leave our lady softbows cruising under the radars.
I will relish to watch ESPN back peddle and try to explain just what in the world came flyin’ out of left field to “SMACK” the entire nation square in the face!
Something Wicked, This Way Comes… I love it!
Brew808,
They did interview the guy with the rally monkey and the girls with the flag did get on camera at the end there.
EH!
I was just asked to take a survey right here on the blog. I declined but was taken to a site called, Dynamic Logic.
WTH!
Is this something new from HA?
Mahalo Brew! Awesome pics! Good to “not” see you at today’s game!
Thanks haka! I guess the “men” went out last night and came back w/ the monkey! 😆
The woman TV announcer came by asking “Where’s the monkey guy?” ….. 🙄
I have to agree with a-joe, at first I was thinking like Kazzman, but then I thought what the hay, let the girls bats do our talking. Girls show no mercy, get them down and keep them down.
Up early to do laundry then off to Mililani for fun and food with family and friends. Just returned.
CONTRATS TO THE UH WAHINE FOR WINNING THE STANFORD REGIONAL AND NOW OFF TO ALABAMA!!!!!!!!
Some one posted a day or 2 ago about “funding” post-season expenses for softball and unsure if I saw a response. How much is chargeable to UH.
I still say that Benson is an idiot for sitting on his hands on expansion, but this may be the “reason” to dump him if things go wrong. He looks to add “lower tier” schools while others are looking for equal or better! Sure makes him look stupid!!!!!
#378 addahknowjoe
“Dynamic Logic” boy if that isn’t a oxymoron for the HA I don’t know what is. LOL
A-House
Stupid is as Stupid does………………………..
Pomai – please check your email. 🙂
I agree w/ A-Joe. I’m sure the teams who will play the Wahine will scout them, but let’s surprise them and *smack* ’em on the side of the head when we play them. It’ll be a bigger story if/when we make it to the top.
Dynamic Logic sounds like something from “Lost” or “Flash Forward”…
AJoe makes a good observation, it is better for our girls to go “under the radar” and focus on winning. Less media distractions will let the girls have their fun without someone poking a notepad, calling their cellphone for an interview, having a microphone or camera shoved in front of their faces. Having fun and getting game ready will bring the best out of our Na Wahine come game time. Just win Na Wahine, everything else takes care of itself.
Hmmmm…..
lots of oysters.
Does Wena know about this? Yet?
Initially, the young woman interviewing the guy (‘ohana?) with the rally monkey thought it was a bear. The rally monkey wore number 17 which is not on the roster. 🙂 I’m sure ‘ohana will be traveling to Tuskaloosa, so they’ll have some fans there.
SteveM,
Who are the Tsaikos in the east who might be able to make the games?
I have a classmate in Tuskegee, but that’s 2.5 hrs. away from Tuskaloosa.
being that Kelly Majam is so small compared to your proto-type home run hitter, maybe when they go to Alabama, maybe they could switch identities within the team. Makani could say she’s Kelly and be interviewed. Kelly could be Grimes. Amanda could switch with J. Iwata, etc. etc. etc. they could have a team joke and suprise the heck out of the ignorant media. I’m only joking on this, but just imagine how hilarious it would be. but then, that’s just me.
AlnBama?
The Wahine softball team just needs to win against Bama. If they don’t ESPN and the rest of the establishment will convey once again all the negatives they can find to put them down. (The negative spin) Imagine how much coverage a big name school would be getting if they were on a record homerun streak playing in the regional and now a super regional.
Conspiracy? None dare call it that.
If UH had money like any big school they could build an athletic dynasty here in Hawaii. Let me correct that. If UH had the right type of people with money like any big school they could build an athletic dynasty here in Hawaii.
How? By building the best facilities and maintaining & upgrading these facilities so they will continue to be the best. Hire the best name coaches with success at the highest levels. Having private jets, small ones to bring in the recruits and for small athletic teams to travel in. A larger one for the football team or any large number athletic team.
Find a way for families to view the games played by their children who live across the country. Meaning with the computer age and technology Hawaii could create a way to stream the games over the internet. (Find ways to override the control of the networks).
Bring in national media people here for a vacation for reporting about UH athletics. PR.
Can one imagine Hawaii being in the top 5 of all the different sports. Teams coming to Hawaii not having to be concerned about losing, because they are playing the best and on top of that paid millions of dollars to come and play.
Thinking outside the box and more than likely just dreaming the impossible dream.

no, no. agree with your “outside the box” mentality,
unfortunately, UH does not have the expertise and/or funds to arrive at such a conclusion!
small minds with tunnel vision can be a very dangerous thing!!!

All the more amazing what Coach Coolen has been able to do.

😆
I like how you think sir!
If anyone has ideas to improve athletics at UH then they should contact JD. Outside the box, inside the box, under the rubbish can, really doesn’t matter what kind of idea it is. Unfortunately most of the out of the box ideas require money, and lots of it. Unless you are a member of a BCS conference with hordes of TV money, good out of the box ideas are difficult to come by.
papajoe2: #391– Dem HI Wahines all look alike. 😆
slugger…they interviewed ricketts much later. she was very candid and represented her team well.
#400 Kazz, you know that my #391 post is only for amusement. we could never mess with the media because the pen is way mightier than 149 home runs and the sword. still i welcome your own thoughts on switching identities among the ladies and mock interviews. hahahahaha.
al,
Thanks for the info. Sorry I missed it. I had to skedaddle to visit w/ a classmate who has MS & is at Kuakini. He’s still joking even though he can’t move most of his body anymore. He said his Dad wanted to give him the middle name of Patrick. His last name is Lau. His Mom never got the joke. … P. Lau … and she was a Robello. Glad he’s still laughing.
Kazz, imagine Coach Coolen with a wig and with his mustache and beard and insisting that he is Kelly Majam and all of his/her home runs are legit. bwhahahaha
so here’s a thought…
so let’s say we are unable to “get” the run n shoot. say the coaches just can’t get it and attempts to find a way to hire mouse davis go sour.
we could opt for the spread option run by paul johnson or kenny niumatololo with the likes of david “take em to the” graves and incoming kenny “never been to” spain. convert some slotbacks to runners.
no?
OK, chawan, you can come out now.
al,
no
…totally different OL mindset.
d1,
i’ve always been LOST before, during, and forever after the show.
Gotta make sure we keep our winning coaches.. Plan ahead.. prepare for the contract well in advance.. make the pitch early..
If we focus on keeping our winning coaches, eventually we will have winning programs in all sports..

Ok. Back from a great grad party.
Interesting chatter about the non- recognized Wahine. Well, we are in in His Hands and I say – good for ESPN and the NCAA, etc. I just want the Wahine to keep doing what they’re doing and stay focused on the prize.
Don’t let anything or anyone deter you or chink the team unity by blatheringing about this person or that person.
The Wahine are going to hit the Super as underdogs and get it done just like they did this week. Marching, marching, the Hawaii Horde. Pickin up fans, admirers and even some recruits- who knows?
Hope some Tsai-kos are able to go!!!
Nitey nite and Tsweet Tsoftball dreams!
Thirteen of the top sixteen seeds made it into the Super Regionals. Only eight of them will survive into the Softball World Series. At this level, there are no bad teams or weak teams.
Na Wahine will play their best game this season on Friday.

First JD needs to get rid of the fumbler’s dead wood.
al on 409 & postmanke on 419,
I think the stars & the team are aligned for the true ‘run-n-shoot’ (in it’s purest form) to re-appear. The weak points that may impede progress are under-achievement by the O-Line & if Moniz fails to re-gain his form & doesn’t re-capture his top-gun status. All the other weaknesses in other units seem to be squared away, including the kicking game (geez, even Enos looked solid in the Spring). I say Moniz comes back strong & that Coach Shaw will have his troops ready to play. Although USC will be ready, they don’t yet realize their absolute worst nightmare is going to happen; being embarrassed on national television.
troll on 314,
Do you really think that UH will average only 1 and 1/2 touchdowns in the coming season (going by your $20 total / $1 a touchdown figure)? I’d like to make a personal wager with you but that would mean we’d reveal true identities. A number of tsaikos know my name, but if you’re afraid to reveal it here we could set up a neutral party that you trust & that I can approve of. My estimate would at least be double of yours. We can set the number at 25. At 25 we push. 24 & below, you win, 26 and above, I win. Amount wagered: negotiable. What do you say? Please decide quickly as we’re still unsure as to what form the blog will take. Of course, I doubt you’ll take up the gauntlet.
re: 424,
Sorry troll, my figures are off. The fairer above/below line would be 30. 29 or below, you win. 31 and above, I win. Ball’s in your court if you got any. I’m willing to put my money where my mouth is and believe me, with my tight financial situation it’s not a whimsical thing; I don’t have a lot of discretionary cash/mad money.
Good Morning Tsaikos! Hope everyone had a good weekend. Hope everyone has a good Monday. Good Luck to the Na Wahine as they head down south.
Good Morning Gangeez! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Q: Why did the ivory hunter go to Alabama?
A: Because in Alabama, the Tuskaloosa! 😆
DPK,
Were you up all night thinkin’ of that one? 😉
Is very disappointed in the local coverage of the Na Wahine, can you imagine the coverage if the basketball team made it into the sweet sixteen? But that will soon change when Na Wahine win it all!!!
The Texas Tech coach said it all. When they looked at the Wahine lineup they couldn’t pitch around anyone. And that is how it has been for the wahine this season. If you try to pitch around one the next one will pick it up. And they all can go long.
if the wahine are to advance. somehow, kaia parnaby will need to become a part of this.

Got some home made PS for you!
How many times have we seen a student athlete kept on scholarship an not even play due to reasons not related to sports, sure there will be a few mishaps but over all I think the schools have been pretty good in dealing with students on scholarships. There is always going to be a D. Smith!!!!
Pomai,
Other than the one-year sit-out rule, it seems that the NCAA is mostly relying on self-policing.
looks like i need to go see some folks in maui.

Kazz, don’t sweat national recognition. Na Wahine will gain from this Super Regional appearance and the one thing they can do to help themselves is to WIN!
Alabama gets the love because of the programs they run, not just softball. Na Wahine can show the rest of the country they are not a passing fancy. This Super Regional appearance is a huge step up for the program.
It was great to know that Na Wahine was not celebrating like they reached their goal. It looks like they are still focused and stilll on a mission. This is what they need. Focus, play for each other, play for themselves, play loose because each and every game they play is some of the gravy for a “record” setting year.
That Lady Buffalo coach is just one mad buffalo after being taught by Na Wahine that we do play some pretty good softball out here. Her analysis is down to earth. That being said, Alabama can be hit too and Na Wahine will put the “BIG SMACK” on them!
from the Lady Bufalo coach…
On Alabama pitcher Kelsi Dunne:
“She’s a great pitcher. As soon as she gets you guessing, you are just about done. That’s what she did to us today. Yesterday when we saw her, we were guessing a little too much early in the game, but then we settled in and started taking our hacks and being aggressive. Today I thought we were taking our hacks and being aggressive, but we just were guessing a little bit more than we were yesterday.”
So…see ball…hit ball…not much guessing?
Alabama Stats..
Kelsey Dunne…1.89 era
Lauren Sewell..2.19 era
Charlotte Morgan..3.42 era
Amada Locke..2.92 era
Team…2.38 Opponents…7.22
What I find remarkable about this Wahine Softball Team is that their success so far in the postseason is that they have accomplished it all on the road. Think about it, on the road since May 10, long plane rides, long van rides, sleeping in strange surroundings in strange beds, playing in mostly unfamiliar fields, eating fast food, traveling through different time zones and thousands of miles. They don’t have the luxury of being at home through the regionals and superregionals like Washington, Alabama, etc. I truly believe they have remarkable will and resolve, both physically and especially mentally. They are playing with a purpose and they are taking us along for this glorious ride. Feel the rush!!
