2010 vision
According to someone in the know, the top prospects for 2010 are Punahou defensive lineman Sani Fuimaono, Leilehua quarterback Andrew Manley and Kahuku defensive end Kona Schwenke.
Fuimaono, who also competes in judo, is the 2009 state wrestling champion in the 285-pound division.
Manley, who toured UH on his own last summer, has drawn interest from UCLA.
And Schwenke, who is 6 feet 5 and can run 40 yards in 4.7 seconds, already has received an offer from BYU.

Long-snapper Jake Ingram will be our (video) chat guest on Tuesday.

Good Morning Tsaikos!!
Hopefully we will be able to keep at least 2 of 3 prospects in Hawaii!!
haha
Good Morning Hawaii!
Top 5 today – fantastic.
I recall Manley was offered. How about the other two?
3
Manley was indeed offered. Not sure about the other two.
But I imagine UH must be reluctant to enter the bidding for Punahou players.
Still lurking…Hi all!
GO Warriors!!!
I’m watching the 2008 Sugar Bowl.
The outcome is still the same.
ST;
So was Colt holding the ball too long, trying too hard for the big play…Were the receivers not reading the blitz properly….Saw it in person, & have not had the stomach to watch it again.
When I saw it live, I thought he held the ball too long.
In retrospect, the blocking wasn’t very good. And the receivers weren’t getting any separation.
It was just sooo different when Tyler came in and just starting hitting receivers; seemed like TG got the ball out quickly.
Good morning ST, good neighbor, and all Tsiakos near and far wishing you all the very best today and in all the days to come.
Stretch: I would like to see UH sign all 3 – believe got good chance IF the new coaches are very productive and players use the “coconut wireless” to talk to prospects ( is this against NCAA rules? ). Go so many chicken-ass rules for so many manini things and NCAA only go after the “little” schools – burns my ass!!
ST: Midor7 taped the Sugar Bowl, but we have yet to summon the courage to watch it – still painful.
I don’t care what anyone says… The UH cheerleaders should be at ALL sporting events.
Well at least the ones where there is a crowd.
To say they “don’t belong at a volleyball game and should be sent away to a basketball game” is quite an insult to a program that has talented student athletes.
But I digress…
ST:
Will UH go after Taufoti who committed to Wyoming last week?
The main thing: Georgia was better.
Notre Dame was no Georgia.
Not even close…
A-House:
It’s not as bad as I remember.
Losing Rivers hurt, but Salas ran some nice routes.
OK, wait, the officiating sucked. I mean, Davone Bess was called for being an ineligible receiver downfield.
I think UH really needed Nate Ilaoa for this game. He would have done some damage against the three-man front.
I remember June Jones saying “the only team I am focused on is Georgia” when people asked him about the SMU rumours at that time.
I believed him.
Fool me once, shame on…….. ME and kudos to you. π
I think Keala Watson should have played more.
And Mouton was hardly used.
UH practiced for two weeks with Laupepa Letuli at tight end. So the game comes, and … no tight end.
“But I imagine UH must be reluctant to enter the bidding for Punahou players.”?
there are already a lot of prospects for 2010. cant wait to see who mack and co. land.
Kazz,
A long time ago the cheerleaders were at baseball during the WAC tournament and went onto the field between innings to lead cheers. They almost got hit by wild throws. They didn’t know the basic rule at a baseball game – don’t turn your back on the field.
They could be at most other events. Well, maybe not golf. π
ST:
What about Hatchie (OT) from Waialua? Was he offered last year abut the same time as Manley?
I’ll have to double check the list.
Aloha Kakahiaka!
yawn…
kope…kope…
One of the problems I see is the Georgia DEs fake to the outside, then cut inside. Hey, UH probably should have just tried to seal the inside lane, since the DEs aren’t going to get the QB by going outside.
Then again, they were kind of fast …
OK, I’m going to stop giving play-by-play on a game that was played 14 months ago today.
Good morning ST and everyone!
oh…
The thing that struck me about the live game was that the offensive plays did not seem to change much even when it was not working.
The 2 things that struck me about the Sugar Bowl when I saw it on TV was- The UGA dee was out to stop Colt. Period.
The faces of the Warriors on the sidelines reflected a total loss of fighting spirit (in the knowledge of JJ’s departure ?) – something that never manifested in previous games when they were down by many points.
Recruiting:
Accordung to Doris at PIAA, offers were made to 5:
Hatchie, Rowley, Manley, Fehoko, & Taz Stevenson.
oops
accordung =according, ob coursse!!
Stevenson and Manley, for sure.
I’m not sure about the rest.
Doesn’t hurt to try to get players from Punahou if they are good. We have gotten players from Punahou as freshman and there were players that went to the Mainland but transferred to UH.
Players that come to UH for the 4/5 years are more than welcome since we can train them for a longer period than transfers. The point being is that if they are somewhat pursued, at least the potential transferee know that there is a possibility of coming back and being welcomed.
BaseBows wrapping up their trip to Minnesota against the Gophers.
2-1 Bows in the 5th. Gophers have the bases loaded with 0 outs.
September 18 Programming Note: It is certain there will be a Tsai-ko gathering on Friday, Sept. 18 from around 6:00 PM. las vegas is still working on where, depending on estimated count. We’ll gather the numbers later since Rich2176’s ticket numbers are more critical at this moment.
The Friday night gathering is to allow Tsai-kos from Hawaii and the mainland (international too) to finally meet. Part of the program will be small group introductions.
It is apparent that not all Tsai-kos would tailgate together on Saturday. We have UH Alumni Association tailgate, SportsHawaii tailgate, Boyd tailgate, our tailgate, hotel and travel agency tailgates, etc.. SO, the Friday night gathering is planned for everyone who makes it to Vegas in time….
Regardless, UH should offer all the top local prospects on Oahu and the outer islands. Get planny talent in the islands and if the focus is to keep the boys home then offer all of um! Obviously some will stay some will go but at least they all know we like them play for us, play for the home team! Taz Stevenson and Andrew Manley are beasts!!!
Thanks CRW for the reminder…
No sooner I turn on the game, then UH walks in a run for a tie game.
Tsai-kos in Las Vegas September 18-19, 2009 &
Tsai-kos who might be Las Vegas September 18-19, 2009
las vegas needs to know the estimated number for the Saturday tailgate and optional bus planning. Planning is also underway for a Friday night Get-together Party for all mainland and Hawaii Tsai-kos! β Rich2176 needs to know who and how many game tickets are needed. Survey requests for tickets will be turned over to Rich2176 at the end of February or when he is ready.
I will continue to collect ticket requests until Rich2176 is ready (and tailgate and FRIDAY night party RSVPs indefinitely) via the survey at:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=_2b0TEhRn0xTX82JQRdJ2gyQ_3d_3d
If you cannot get into the survey or have subsequent changes or ETA & lodging info, please email me at: stevem.hnl (at) gmail.com
A summary of the data and plans are posted at:
http://home.roadrunner.com/~smurashi/tsai-kos/las2009.html
Please check if your listed info is accurate. This listing also serves as visual assurance that your ticket/tailgate requests were received.
I have started to link the hotels (outside of downtown) of those who have reservations made. This for location and potential lodging site info for those still searching.
Good afternoon Tsaikos…mildly cold here in the land of kim chee.
Sani Fuimaono sounds interesting. Yup, can’t have enough defensive linemen that can flip blockers out of the way to wrestle RB’s to the ground, I always say. π
I seem to remember the WAC master schedule came out in the middle of March last year. One thing we can bet on is UNR in freeze-da-okole-to-da-seat November. Still, that’d be a trip worth taking.
Hoy hoy laddeez and Tsaikos.
so maybe da 3 names up above like stay? day like go? dis is my peelings, truly.
so there you have it. I totally agree with KapoleiWarrior.
if you wanna be a Warrior, hooray. if you wanna go away, best of luck to you. we not going stand in yo way.
We Tsaikos always gonna be for Hawaii, we ain’t gonna remember your name if you go Bruin, Trojan, Irish, Beaver, Duck,, Courgar or Husky. I remember the name Charlie Wedemeyer and I know Freitas went Lions, but I don’t know anything else. And the real truth is I NO CARE. I only care about those who want to be Warriors and those who become
Warriors and help us, Warrior Nation, feel good about ourselves.
We could be cheering for you, if you let us. Its your choice.
Go Warriors!!
hi good afternoon stephen tsai i just wanted to say to you that on yesterday blog you said that the walkons on the 2009 hawaii warriors football team was good but was not good enough to earn a uh football scholarship this spring ball or summer ball. for me i think that maybe 3 players have a chance if they work hard .
99club- what… COLD over there? Is TChahng still there?
Have fun and think of me in the land of gimchee!
Liz-
Not THAT cold. Supposed to get up to 45λ today. I’m sure TChahng’s around…I’m heading up to Seoul right now to visit the War Museum. Taking the subway. I’m here through the 16th…99bar cattle call?
i taped the sugar bowl too. i haven’t watched it yet. but, now that you are giving play by play.
darn it.
Minnesota beats UH in bottom of 9th, 5-4
ktm: re #41.
Very interesting – could you give us those names?
A few of us (like me) can’t wait for Spring & Summer camps.
Will be on the lookout for these guys – I plan on watching a few practices.
Thanks
Great Afternoon All!
Gotta make it to one of those 70’s band things someday, too.
Haven’t been able to watch the entire SB game yet either. π
Heartbreaking loss for the BaseBows. First blown save of the year (IIRC).
Gophers rally for 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th to snatch the victory, 5-4.
They split the Minnesota trip. Back home to host Miss. St. next weekend…..
99Club ~ Anh ya hash, by gosh! Are you at Osan, Pusan or Seoul today? Is this the year that you hang up your spurs and settle down to a more peaceful life on the Warrior trail?
Trap trips, gets trumped…. π π π₯

Kekoa, Brew,
I became a civilian in mid-flight yesterday…somewhere over Russia, ironically, since I came in during the cold war. I didn’t know we had overflight rights! At least I’m pretty sure we get ’em since I nevah when see any AAA or SAMs flying by.
Gotta cancel the trip up to the War Museum, they stay closed on Mondays! Auwe. Guess I gotta scout for the UH while over here. Always on the lookout for talent for ‘da Rainbow Dancers. π
A little public service announcement for anyone who wants to come join us this afternoon to talk a little Warrior fb. We also would welcome your input of ideas to fire up our next Tsaiko T-gate on Maui.
Koakane ~ Eh my pahtna!
Good to hear that you’ll be able to contribute to the Wessai Chaptah’s meeting at Nancy’s today. Looking forward to your ‘Testimonial’ during the Bible study part of the agenda. We’re meeting at 3 PM at Nancy’s over a bowl of her deelicious Tripe stew. Adult beverages are always suggested to help wash down the trail dust.
*Again, all Tsaiko’s are encouraged to attend…Not for the faint of heart. (child birthing experience accepted). Had to add that disclaimer for the moms so dey no get hu hu wit us guys…Ok Aunty Rob25?

brew,
No kidding about the Hoyas. What happened to them this year? They started out OK. Better than the Terps. If they could only make their WIDE OPEN layups. WAC tourney comin’ up! Anything can happen, λ€? I’ve gotta get one of these Korean keyboards and drive Jason crazy.

I’ve already had too much of the brewski’s and bbq since my ceremony. I’ve already gained 10 bad lbs. I say bad because on me it looks like a snake that ate one baby.
Hoyas? Ainokea! It’s jm2222bad that goes boo-hoo! π π― π
ACC Rules NCAA Basketball!!! π
99club — Congratulation on your retirement! You are now part of the unpublicized retired Tsai-ko Rocker/Chief’s Club…Kekoa President and A-House honorary member.
99 – That just means you need 99# more to “fill out” the frame right, (maybe more!) – brewski’s and BBQ and sports 24/7 should do the trick! π
SteveM,
Mahalo. I think A-House is our honorary Commander!
BTW, you’d think in Korea I could find a place that had rice with eggs for breakfeast. I guess I’m too close to base (Osan).
99 – Now you can go on cruises! π π― π
brew, ‘scuse me, but what conference are the #1 and #2 teams from? that’s right, the BIG EAST!! π
brew,
Can’t. Already getting scoldings from the mrs. on the weight gain. Of course the discussion is always if it’s her cooking or the beer. You can guess which camp she’s in. π
Cruises? Ha! I think the River Walk boats in San Antonio are the closest I’ll get to cruising.
99club- the snake visual is π … You are one tall, slender fellah!
jm2375,
I’d love to see a NC-Pitt matchup in the tourney…selection Sunday just 2 weeks away!
Kekoa- tripe stew sounds ono… just have breakfast- bacon, eggs and Coaches hotcakes.. sipping kope now.

Amanda Paterson is the UH Compliance Officer/Administrator. We know that many other programs have more than one person handling these important duties. YEAH, WAHINE!!!!
Great job to Wahine BB team. Good to see that they kept fighting to the end. Senior night for the Wahine BB team too. The senior night celebration is on K5 right now.
Where is Bolla during all this??
Looking forward to seeing Jake Ingram on Tuesday. Thanks, ST!
Hiya UHfan808! Been back from Wessai meeting of the minds long enough to download all the classified information discussed there. As usual, we had a great time trying to solve all the problems of the UH over a hot bowl of Tripe. (except Ralph…he ate the Hawaiian combo).
Are you coming on campus next Saturday for Jason’s version of *The Amazing Race?* I think it’s a Soopah Tsaiko way of supporting Jason and the tremendous cause that he is representing. Come hang out with us, should be a very moving experience.
Likewize Liz!…Jake is the ‘center’ of the Universe.
Howzit guys!
*burp* back from eating @ Rai Rai Ramen. hit da spot.
Congrats to the Wahines. Nice way to end the regular season.

Hi Frank25! Ramen bowl to the dust bowl π
brew – no more drips… haven’t taken any decongestant today, but still coughing a little…
sounds tasty!
Great comeback for the wahine tonight! JD & crew did make it affordable: WBB ticket, burger fries & a drink = $12+change.
The Wahine Basketball team winning = PRICELESS
Chawan_cut was there…
Wow, Pat C. is padding her record. I have to believe it’s just a matter of time before someone taps her for a head position. But having dignitaries like MeiLing and Chawan in attendance is going to screw up my doom-and-gloom story, which is running tomorrow (sorry for the cheap plug).
Hi MeiLing!
Sorry, Mike!
oops, forgot a comma “burger, fries…”
That was a great game for the Wahine. They came out of the half at a faster pace, gunning for the basket. Hope they can keep up that level of play in their final game.
chawan_,
Did you recognize the football players who came in to the SSC at the end of the 2nd half? John Estes, I think… and maybe Symonds…
Hi, LizK!
Hi, Mike! I was wondering who was there from the media.
At least Ariel didn’t spend too much time chatting with the players. That Tara Hittle is a clown. Good fun!
K, off to do stuffs… esme & out….
The Wahine DESERVED this win as much as they fought back to get it.
Kanekoa is a basketball goddess!
That second half is stuff dreams are made of.
if the wahines played the season like they played the 2nd half with pat charity coaching all season long they would have won a lot more games in the WAC. I noticed she played a lot of freshmen down the stretch and a lot of new combination of players. Pushed the right buttons down the stretch…
Frank’s gone..he’s at work now. Was waiting for me to put a load in the dryer.
The first thing that he eats when he comes home depends on what time of day he comes in. I’m pretty sure that he wants anything with rice…typical local boy.
Just stopped to check in…was at the movies today watching Slumdog Millionaire and Milk. Loved both…great performances all around.
Have a good evening and great week!
what he does ask for poi!
Good to hear the Wahine pulled it out tonight.
Hopefully the MBB can claw their way outta the play-in game this week.
Hate to say it but anything beyond a “One and Done” for both teams in Reno is “house money”
#174 what he doesn’ ask for poi?
Hi MeiLing. Actually, I wasn’t at the game. I’m stuck in the office, actually wishing I were at the game. I was there last week, though, when there was just one person in the Manoa Maniacs section. Sad.
Notice how much looser (and better) the Wahine have been playing recently?
Before it goes away, have a peek at this – scroll down to the large images…
pretty funny.

jm2375- Extremeskins is extreme and you need a thick skin. But it
1. Helped me appreciate the WB a LOT more!
2. Teaches patience, restraint and loving kindness because I don’t want to “make A” trying to defend Colt.
3. Helped me meet a few very nice people in person and through private emails.
OK. time for nigh nigh. Gotta get up at O-dark-thirty for the next 19 days.
Sweet Warrior Dreams!
d1ε³Ά — did you sing “Through the Years” at Genji’s? Peaches and I have a bet… π
awesome come back win for the wahine tonight.
down by 20 at the half to come back to pull it off by 1.
relentless defense and much better shooting and decisions helped them get it.
nice way to send the seniors off.
Mike,
i’m a dignitary? wow, thanks! i think thats the first compliment i’ve got on this blog.
it wasn’t looking good being down by 20, but that must’ve been one heck of a halftime speech either by Coach Charity or maybe the seniors.
kanekoa and her steals, tinnin with her timely shooting and everyone else for picking it up and going for broke.
wow, dignitary….
Liz ~ One quick question before you go down for the count.
Haha, love that pic. π
Kazzzzzz,
Was that you sitting w/ chawan_cut in the Manoa Maniacs section?
SteveM,
I can’t remember what I had for lunch!
π
I know I did at the KK but really don’t recall that one at Genji
meiling,
i didn’t notice the players. where were they?
i saw some of the wahine vball players there in the “manoa maniacs” section to cheer for hittle.
that was the first time i sat behind the bench. i guess thats a prime spot to get on tv a lot (i hope i didn’t get caught pickin’ my nose or doing anything else lame). my friend brought his int school team to watch the game and we joined them. much different view.
would’ve been kinda weird to be the only person sitting in the “manoa maniacs” section by myself (well, with the wahine vball players and 3 other fans there)
LizK,
Great job with the pics and video. You folks had awesome seats! (looked hot though)
weird…and lame! π
OK, if I take a “nap” that lasts longer than four hours, is it still a nap?
Did I mention my theory that the Stan Sheriff isn’t really 10,000 seats? It appeared there was a sizeable crowd yesterday, but UH said it was only 20 percent filled.
Mei,
Sorry to say that was not me getting prime TV time like Chawan. I think he was on tv like 4xs!
ST,
You just woke up in time to watch the replay of the Wahine game.
Hmmm I too wonder if JB was watching this.
Mike,
Its easier to play basketball without the threat of getting “a size 14 up your a##”.
Thanks, d1ε³Ά — I win the bet…she said Genji’s. But Peaches and I agree that you sang that one beautifully. It was on the Lawrence Welk finale tonight and we were singing along…which brought up the question and bet. π
Time to gloat a bit and go sleep…work day tomorrow. Good night!
“UH Rainbow Wahine Head Coach Pat Charity”… Man… This just sounds right.
Kinda like “he is not even allowed on campus” – Jim Leahey on Jim Bolla.
One of my greatest nightmares has become reality:
I am now associated with a performance on Lawrence Welk πΏ π π
C_C.
I will never call you lame again….
π
A wonnaful, a wonnaful… π
Re Wahine BB- watching channel 2 sports tonight- players mention “going through a lot” the past couple years… and the huge release of emotion and fighting spirit just makes that win the sweeter!
OK, I’ll look for our readers in the Maniac section.
LizK.
Eh, go sleep!
Okay. I’m off to bed to watch da replay and den go nene. Hasta manana.
Wait: Rachel Leigh Cook is on Psych.
Wahine replay … Kazz?
Replay, Kazz?
What to do.
Here’s Rachel Leigh Cook in the greatest PSA ever:

stretch gong back to your earlier posts. what you think only you and gigi have tv?
jm007…. rai rai ramen remains one of our favorites. seafood ramen w/side gyoza. add chili oil.
ST-
Thanks for posting that PSA link…I agree that IS the best PSA ever. Subtle like a brick.
Touche ST… Touche… π
However you can always see Rachel Leigh Cook, but a comeback win like this is not so easy to find.
I’m recording this game and filing it with the many other UH “keepers”.
i actually watched the last ten minutes of the game. great job. keisha kanekoa can be on my team any day. talk about playing her heart out.
did the refs realize we were the home team?
i don’t know if pat charity will be give the reins. i was surprised to see mrs. bolla actually getting invovled in a positive way throughout the game.
is it just me?
but, i read a lot into seeing vince goo, da houl, serena valdez sitting in the stands the other night. i still don’t know why hf didn’t retain vince. oh but, that was herman failure at it again.
And a one-a, a two-a…
λ¨ΉμΌλ¬ κ°μ! μ΄λ°κ°.
i think you forgot to give taz stephenson some love on your post.
Is that what heroin does? Then I guess I must be on heroin while watching UH mens basketball lately.
I like to go home and throw things.
hey mike…
aren’t you going give us a little sneak preview of your doom and gloom article?
otherwise, guys like me start to think too much of what is to come? hmmm. no can fire bolla so he’ll be back. half of the team leaves.
only in hawaii….
chin’s chinese buffet restaurant in kahala is now serving a sushi and seafood buffet lunch 9.95 and dinner 14.95.
i must do some reconnaissance work.
Well, I saw the PSA and then I thought of … uh, never mind.
I know it’s supposed to show support for an administrator to attend the game.
But, c’mon, why bring a laptop?
I mean, unless you’re filing a story or, well, writing a blog, why bring work to a game?
That’s like bringing a book to somebody’s wedding reception.
which administrator was she?
….help me out here in a moment of “duh-ness”. what is PSA?
It was a guy.
PSA = public service announcement.
chawan_,
K, so that’s your friend sitting with you that I saw not Kazz, first in the Manoa Maniacs section & then behind the bench. I was across the way with my cousin & her husband. I think initially you were the only people sitting in the Manoa Maniacs section.
John Estes, Blase, maybe Spencer Smith & another guy with a head of curly hair sat in the lower B section just across from us. Can’t mistake the wide-bodied guys.
Night all!
oh. public service announcement. now i understand. for a moment i thought you meant “Prostate-Specific Antigen”.
good decision of taking the vision of 2010 having to something in the life really i can tell i am very impressive to be taken the decision by you.
