Wednesday practice 2, free wireless in arena

Team had yesterday off. I was working on our mini-special for next week.

the TWC free wi-fi in the arena is up and running. it is a two-hour thing. Don’t know if you’ll have to log back on if things go longer than 2 hours, which we know they will. There might be a concern if the server gets overloaded.

am working on a paddleboard story at the moment but watching practice.

It opened with a 3-on-3 drill where teams scored points and stayed on the ‘winning’ side as long as they won points.. Wong, Ah Mow and Baxter all were on teams. Fun to see some of the DSs take swings, including Kawamura, whose team won with 9 points. She played with Hartong and Passi. teams had to do as many pushups as the difference in points from the 9.

At the moment, they are playing 6-on-6 with in a set lineup (not rotating) and designated servers. the team with Adolpho, Longo, Long, Goodman, Hartong and Uiato won 4-2 when Kawamura served just long. Adolpho had a nice swing on a shoot set.

Other team is Kastl, Vorster, Higgins, Manu-Olevao, Passi, Kawamura.

Adolpho continues to impress, running some nice inside slides. She really is looking and moving more as a volleyball player. Hartong just stuffed Vorster on an inside slide. She read that nicely.
Kastl has taken some big swings from the left, hitting hard on sharp angles.

Cindy, I wonder if Basketball HC Laura Beeman had anything to do with maybe changing Adolpho’s work ethic. Since it seems Adolpho has really improved from last year.

I don’t ever recall anyone saying Adolpho had a bad work ethic.

Improvement is not only related to work ethic. Other factors: change in technique, change in the mental aspect, increased number of touches, time and maturity to name a few.

no, i doubt if Beeman has anything to do with Adolpho’s moving more like a volleyball player. There was never a problem with work ethic. But believe she played more volleyball than basketball over the summer than she had the previous summer

Cindy, in your opinion, who do you think will be the starting RS player come opening night?

pau practice. very hard work on both sides. Shoji telling everyone good job. Taylor and adolpho had a nice stuff of Hartong. They put up a big block.
will be back later. have a story to write. Laterz.

    6. sorry, no idea at the moment about RS. much could depend on who Shoji thinks matches up best against Texas’ LS in certain rotations. I see a lot of in-game switches for UH if things aren’t matching up well. Hartong could easily start as the LS hitter who opens in the front right position and the hits out of the back row when then rotating to serve..

That would go with last year’s starting lineups with best servers in a row to shake up and put pressure on opponents from the start and we do seem to have a fair amount of precision servers who could take many teams out of their offense from the get go! Ali, Emily, Mita, Kayla, Courtney and Long to name a few and the newcomers if they make their serves count, too. Go Wahine!
