http://www.ncaa.com/news/volleyball-men/article/2015-05-02/field-bracket-announced-2015-nc-mens-volleyball-championship
In the first play-in match No. 3 seed Loyola Chicago (25-2) will be paired with No. 6 seed Pfeiffer (19-2), with the winner advancing to the championship bracket to play No. 2 seed UC Irvine (28-4). In the second play-in match, No. 4 seed Hawaii (21-6) will play No. 5 seed Penn State (20-9). The winner will be placed in the championship bracket to play No. 1 Lewis (25-3).
Game times for the play-in matches are 3 and 5 p.m. HST. Game times for the semifinals are 3 and 5 p.m. HST The championship match will be played at 3:30 p.m. HST.
The semifinals will be streamed live at NCAA.com and the championship match will be broadcast live on ESPNU.
I don’t know much about Lewis, but I’m thinking UH got a pretty good draw. Penn State is no pushover but I think the Warriors should be able to handle them to move on. Lewis obviously is a good team but I’d rather UH possibly be playing them in the next round if they advance than UC Irvine.
Do you agree with that Cindy?
Yes! UH got new life hope they make the most of it.
Oppurtunities like this don’t come often.
Any indication of TV broadcasting for the play-in games? I hope the NCAA streams them for all the fans that can’t make the long trip to The Farm…
2. agree it is a good draw. My son and I discussed last week that if UH and Lewis met in the tournament, it would be a match between the last two teams that had to vacate their titles.
Hawaii did sweep Penn State in January but Pav has so much playoff experience. We’ll see how far both teams have come in the past few months.
4. don’ know about TV or what their contingency plans were.. Kanoa is based out of California. McLachlin went to Stanford, coached and still has friends that he stays with. I’m assuming that if they can borrow equipment, they’ll do a broadcast as they did when the team played at Stanford in the 2010 MPSF tournament.
This I do know. 1420-AM radio will be there. and I won’t.
Tsai stays on the mainland and the paper might send Reardon as columnist. Tsai will also cover the NCAA women’s water polo tournament this week at Stanford with UH playing in it.
Don, for whatever reason, I’m being told that the NCAA isn’t counting the play-in games as part of the championship so they won’t be streaming.
5 .
Interesting also how they both vacated those championships in back to back years
Yep. I still believe that if UH petitions for it to be returned, they’d get it back. Given how the NCAA rules have changed.
Just confirmed by my son through Kanoa that TV will be there for Tuesday and do Hawaii only.
OC Sports will televise Tuesday’s UH-Penn State match, per SA online edition today.
5:00 pm HT on Tuesday, May 5, per Hawaii Athletics website.
8. yep, was just added to my online story.
Wasn’t Costas Theohoradis and that Hawai’i team in a play in match the year they took the Championship before it got taken away from them?
Cindy — planning on flying up to watch the games. Do you know if UH will be selling tickets? Could not find anything on their website. I know its available through Stanford’s website but want to sit in “Hawaii” section.
Anyone planning on going to Stanford? A couple of us are going and I would love to get tickets to the games by the UH section if there are any. Can someone help me on this?
When did NCAA start this play in games? this should have been done years ago
S. Tsai says OC Sports will televise UH-Penn St. tuesday
Cindy, when you said rules changed regarding UH possibly getting back their national championship, what rules are you referring to?
Why is it golfers with amateur status able to play with professional and maintain there college scholarship and allowed to compete? I am pretty sure there are some other sports. So why that year when Theohoradis played and UH won the championship that becomes a no no?
10. No. the NCAA play-in started last year. Perhaps you’re thinking of the MPSF tournament.
11-12. tuesday tickets are general admission. you can buy them from stanford.

13. play-in started last year. The formation of Conference Carolinas forced the issue by creating a fourth conference. Coaches had been pushing for years for eight teams but the NCAA said the number of teams didn’t warrant expansion.
14. yes, and Volleyshots has had that info since post No. 7. Also posted online on our breaking news around 930 a.m.
15. they’ve become more lenient about amateurs participating with and against pros. Just my opinion that if they appealed it might be returned.
16. That was the point of contention back then as well. Golf comes right out and says Pro-Am. It didn’t suddenly become a no-no with UH volleyball. but the rule has been applied unevenly across sports.
The odd thing about Theocharidis was his records were not stripped, nor his postseason awards. only UH’s title.
Will Tuesday’s match be available online for non-Oceanic subscribers? Please clarify because you didn’t make that clear in last Thursday’s match that it was available for non-subscribers as well, so I didn’t even try that watch. Just stating that it was free didn’t make that fact clear. I need to know in advance. Thanks.
Not seeing an online video stream other than that by OC Sports. Since the NCAA does not consider the play-in games part of the championship tournament, they are not offering a stream as they are for semis and final.

Only thing currently being offered is live stats through gostanford.com
and radio on 1420-AM or espn1420am.com
sorry if it wasn’t clear enough that free meant free. There was a link provided to click on and a ‘play’ icon in the middle of the video screen.
