HERMOSA BEACH, Calif. – The University of Hawaii sand volleyball team completed the second day of the USA Volleyball Collegiate Challenge with five UH tandems competing in three separate divisions. Each of the five squads went 1-1 on the day.

UH’s top pair of Natasha Bell and Tai Manu-Olevao competed in the 16-team gold division, advancing to the quarterfinals with a three-set victory over Katy Fuller and Cinnamon Sary of USC, before falling to UCLA’s Kelly Reeves and Meg Norton. No. 2Ginger Long and Katie Spieler were swept by top-seeded Lila Frederick and Kim Hill of Pepperdine, but bounced back with a consolation win over Becca Strehlow and Zoe Nitingale of UCLA.

In the silver division, No. 3 Emily Mount and Ashley Kastl rolled over Danica Youngblood and Sarah Little of Cal State Bakersfield in the round of 16 before a tough three-set loss to UCLA’s Karsta Lowe and Bojana Todorovich.  No. 4 Ali Longo and Olivia Urban lost to Lowe and Todorovich in the opening round and defeated Youngblood and Little in a consolation match.

UH’s No. 5 tandem of Ku`ulei Zalopany and Nikki Miyashita competed in the eight-team bronze division. The pair picked up a quarterfinal win over Phelix Fincher and Maddy Klineman of UCLA, before succumbing to Pepperdine’s Emily Cook and Katie Messing.

Some impressive wins over good duos Fuller/Sary and Strehlow/Nightengale. Im really impressed with Tai, for a freshmen playing beach for the first time she has really impressed.

I’m also really surprised Longo was paired with Urban.

    2. mentioned on another thread about Croson.
UH will have an announcement later this week about her … if she decides to leave.
If she decides to stay, don’t know if there will be an announcement.
Sounds like she is deciding what she wants to do.

    Hey Cindy,

How did you hear that UH will have an announcement about Croson? Just curious.

From a person close to the situation, someone I promised I wouldn’t say more than that until things get settled.

So do you know more to the story but can’t comment on it?

  9. 2chainz April 22, 2013 4:03 pm

….or can’t give out details as of yet?

I do not know more of the story except what I’ve posted. which is UH will have an announcement this week … if there is something to announce. and that Croson is still in school and is still a Wahine volleyball player. From what I was told, I do feel it’s her decision to make and not, as someone else hinted, that she is being run off.
