U.S. men rally past Russia in 5 in World League

U.S. def. Russia 25-18, 25-19, 25-27, 19-25, 21-19 today (Friday) in Kaliningrad, Russia. Crowd announced at 7,000.

It clinches a spot in the World League final round next month in Italy.

Christenson set the whole match, E. Shoji at libero.

Matt Anderson with 35 kills and a block, Taylor Sander with 21 kills and three aces.

    They started play at 5:00 AM our time and thought that they gonna win in three. Anyway, this is a very good win for the US men considering where they are playing. GO USA!!

    Unrelated comment: apparently, at the Ed O’Bannon/NCAA trial, it was mentioned that NCAA is adding a new championship sport next year–sand volleyball.

    yes, we’ve mentioned that a while ago. They have enough teams now to be sponsored by the NCAA
    Hawaii hoping to become the permanent site of the NCAA championships. both Scott and Kevin Wong working on proposals, getting HTA aboard.
    Gulf Shores, Ala., has it as long as its run by USAV

    No one mentioned what a superlative job Eric Shoji did with his match-saving digs. Time again and again in the fifth set he foiled the Russian kill attempts at match point. He was truly one of the heroes of the match, and it was an important match to win, guaranteeing USA advance to the next final.
