Tuesday: Wahine lose 0-4 to Italy

Hawaii had its moments but lost 25-18, 25-17, 25-17, 25-20. They decided to play a minimum of four sets. When the Wahine could pass, they could run their offense. Think people will be pleased by Maglio’s development. There weren’t a lot of hitting errors on either side.

No official stats kept, as mentioned on previous thread, scoreboard was the manual flip kind. Italy didn’t wear numbers on their jerseys and I never got a roster of them.

By my count, UH gave up 18 aces, 6 in Set 2. Italy has a young phenom named Paola Egonu, Italian born of Nigerian decent. She’s 16 but already has FIVB World experience.
Very athletic, killer serve, 8 aces in three sets.

Italian coach thought Hawaii was young but good. Although this was the ‘national team’ he said that likely only two from this roster would make the 2016 Olympic team, one of them being Egonu.

Got to go write story. Not sure if I’ll be back on. Internet very spotty.

We leave at 10 a.m. for Venice. Lunch along the way, check in to hotel, drive about 2-plus hours to near the border of Slovenia. They play at 6 p.m. (6 a.m. Hawaii), eat then bus back to Venice. Spend a day in Venice Thursday then drive to Maribor Friday

At least that’s the plan as of tonight.

Cindy, I really enjoy your European travel posts. This experience probably sets the bar higher for the Wahine; an experience that will undoubtedly make them better for the upcoming season. As for Maglio, you could see her improvement in the spring game against Texas.

What type of offense/offence does the Italian team run?

See many Ferrari’s, Lamborghini’s, or Maserati’s on the streets?

    Thanks for the travel reports!

This is just a quick video of her serve. Didn’t find much action video on her.

No doubt after watching that….at 16… she will be a ‘tiger’ in sumones tank for a several years…

At 16…if she was in high school here…don’t think ne one in high school here could handle her serve…like the old dude eddie feiner…only would need her n two more players.. maybe only her n 1 other…to pass her the ball…he he he

Be nice to see her in a wahine uniform…

Wonder if the Kansas volleyball team will play the same group that the wahine’s played as they are in Milan too .

She would be an absolute beast. I just watched her serve, and I was sold. Has she played professionally?? If not, come on Shoji and Hall!!

    6. Egoni is already a pro so no U.S. college for her.

    8. Kansas doing a different tour. they played Italy Wednesday then head down south and finish in Barcelona.

    11. thank you. I am on this trip because the paper felt that the Wahine deserved the coverage.
