Tuesday practice

Monday’s thread ran into Tuesday’s practice
to recap. All players in the gym. Burns, who had limited practice last week, cleared to participate more. Mitchem able to do conditioning stuff such as running and stretching.
Greeley cleared to swing. Taylor cleared to play. Higgins looking almost 100 percent.

Shoji said that Castillo will be the third middle and No. 2 opposite so taking reps at both positions. Said she’ll be in the passing rotation if needed.

Not a whole lot extra. The usual Tuesday routine during a game week. More getting back into playing mode. Monday was a conditioning day. Wednesday & Thursday afternoon more game prep.

Hope casey castillo get some PT before the post season. We may need her sooner than later.

Cindy, your last comment “all the Wahine can control is the outcome of their own matches” is, at the end of the day, absolutely correct. And if they do just that, I sincerely believe that we all can look forward to hosting the 1st and 2nd rounds, and quite possibly, the regional as well. No more feeling snubbed anymore. And if we get to host the regional, geography is a non-issue. Lots of great things to look forward to.

What’s your reaction to the Cal Poly-Long Beach roller coaster match? While I root for ABG (Anybody But Gimmillaro), I’m conflicted because Cal Poly’s loss puts the Wahine in a better position, standings-wise.

Control the outcome of their own matches.

    3. nomu. The 4 regional sites for this year and probably for next year are already in place. The NCAA has the sites chosen at least two years ahead. Like Cindy mentioned the schools put in their bids and the NCAA picks from those bidding.

Believe that in 2016, the regionals are non pre-determined sites. In other words, if you are seeded, and you get past the 2nd round, the remaining highest seed will automatically host the regional. Not absolutely certain if this has been adopted.

nomu, my response in 6. was to your statement in 3. where you seem to say that UH looking forward to hosting the 1st/2nd rounds and possibly the regionals, which sites are already in place. This was from last year, so possibly they changed the qualifications for hosting regionals.

  9. nomu October 27, 2015 4:17 pm

Mauna, thanks for clarifying that point. Yes, looks like the non pre-determined sites are effective in 2016, so will not be happening in 2015. Think this team can go far this year in the playoffs, and a lot to look forward to in coming years.

4 You asked what my reaction was to the loss of Long Beach. Probably my answer will be deleted due to my split loyalty. Yes, I was sorry that Cal Poly lost such a close match to Long Beach. I was gone so I didn’t watch the match. Already I had a feeling in advance that Cal Poly would lose and I didn’t want to watch it. I was surprised, though, that it took Long Beach five sets to beat Cal Poly when I expected them to win in three or four. Still, I’m not sorry to miss watching.

Of course I am a UH fan except when they play Cal Poly. I’d like to see both Hawaii and Cal Poly make the playoffs. As for Long Beach, I don’t care.

    4. not sure I see it as you do.
Long Beach State and Cal Poly are tied at 7-2 so both are 1 1/2 behind the Wahine.
If they were to end up tied, the Mustangs have the tiebreaker on set differential. They beat the 49ers in 4, lost to the 49ers in 5. both won on their home courts.

    6. the original comment was in response to the post that UH would put in a strong bid for the sub-regional and surely host. Was trying to explain that wasn’t how it worked. with the RPI pretty much dictating the top 16 hosts

From all that i read, next year will not be predetermined for the regional sites.
What I’ve seen is the final four sites for the next three years: 15 in Omaha, 16 in Columbus (Ohio State) and 17 in Kansas City, MO

    10. You’ll be heartbroken to know that Cal Poly was up 23-20 in the fourth set but couldn’t hold off LBSU….and in the 5th set, Cal Poly was up 13-10 and again couldn’t
hold off LBSU. I too was rooting for CP. BG got a yellow card during the match (so what’s new) for his incessant berating of the calls (or non) by the officials. Now, if the Wahine can sweep their remaining matches and CP and LBSU do the same. The Wahine will get an automatic bid and possibly CP will sneak in. GO BOWS.
