Welcome to Comm/Jour 390 students who are working as credentialed media at tonight’s match for assignment credit.
Can the band be any more disrespectful? I have a big problem with the band playing during the visiting team lineups…
LETS GO BOWS
lots of family out tonight for both teams
Wait, what? I need to have a Login to watch this match on OCSports? What a bunch of crock!
Court side at the media table! Definitely a lot to take in, but UH is leading by 2 points in the first set.

Zarkovic’s kill gives UH the 15-10 lead at the TTO
Excited to see my first men’s volleyball game!
Happy Bday Kupono, hope he waits till saturday to legally celebrate hehehe. 1st televised match for this season. Hopefully they can work on the middles connection with our lefty this series. Good to see some local boys across the net.
Side note: What does it mean that Tuileta is at KCC taking care of academics?
Hawaii still leading in the TO
Cullen Mosher into serve. big cheering section for the Kamehameha kids. Another hitting error by Zarkovic. GCU has closed to 22-20. TO UH
Worsley serves last 2 points. UH wins 25-20
Kolby enters the top 10 digging category with that dig, congrats!

9. he needed 5. He now has 7.
Hawaii up 17-14. TO GCU
Ryan Mather with a huge kill to the face from van Tilburg. Bows up by 3. 23-20
Fey with his 8th kill, gives UH set point at 24-22. TO GCU

Ohhh that Van Tilberg facial was brutal, hitting in the 10 meter and literally knocking over the player to the ground….

Hawaii takes the second set with a 25-22 victory.
Bows up 2 sets to 0 over the Lobos!
End of set two and UH is up by two. Only one more set!
#15 New business: Facials by Stijn
Stijn isn’t having his usual high percentage night but wow that facial was brutal.
Glad Fey has stepped it up offensively.
And awesome article on Stijn , no offense to Tsai but wish Cindy covered mens volleyball. 🙂
31. I am covering the men this season Stephen is on the DL for a bit.
Best wishes and quick recovery to Stephen.
Couple of lineup changes for UH. Worsley at setter. Nainoa Frank will be in the middle.
Service error puts UH up 15-14 at the TTO
Hitting error by GCU gives UH at 21-19 lead. TO Lopes.
Net violation and hitting error has helped GCU close to 22-21 TO UH
close set with the score at 22-21 hawaii in the TO
every one stands up for the aloha ball when canyon takes a TO. hawaii 24-22.
UH up 24-22. TO GCU
GCU holds off three match points, an ace gives the Lopes set point at 26-25. TO UH
I am impressed with Worsley, although his blocking might be a bit of an issue, UH will be in good hands in the future after Jennings.
Nice win for UH, GC good scrappy team, credit to them. Go Bows! So excited for the remainder of this season!
UH wins 28-26
I believe Jennings was leading the MPSF in assists per set, but not getting into the third set until match point will hurt his average 🙁
Interesting comment by Fey in the post -game show about the closeness he feels for his new teammates and how much more fun this group of guys are compared to last year. Team chemistry is so important and they seem to have it. I know they are sure fun to watch. Mighty mouse is better than ever!
I noticed the freshmen class all seems very close and like a fun group, I think they have really brought team chemistry closer.
45. does it matter about individual statistics?
47. Van Tilburg said he felt it was a very special team. Warriors have done a lot of bonding, and the training on Maui helped.
I love that when Van Tilburg knocked the guy down with a facial, he took a moment and did not celebrate until after checking if the guy was ok. Classy move. I really like him and hope his humbleness continues and spreads to the whole team. Not saying the team isn’t humble, just hoping he continues and the team follows his lead.
And Cindy, sorry, but yes. I am a bit worried about 2017 for indoor wahine. As a poster mentioned, most are done already and 2018 is already in full gear. I’m not even sure who is left for 2017 as far as top 100 recruits. It’s a little nerving. Sure they have had last minute recruits, but not like this where they only have 1 verbal so far. I’m thinking with this being Dave’s last year, I feel, that the recruits may be waiting and we are missing out. I definitely feel that Beach is taking some top potential recruits away from the indoor team.
Back to the men….I think they are going to the national tournament again this year, and I think with who we have on the bench…it could be for the next 4 years. What an exciting team to watch and get excited about.
This year’s team still has work to do to achieve their potential, and to be consistently great, but every once in a while you can see them shift into another gear and their play elevates to awesome. And, every once in a while you can see them go the other way and show inexperience and a lack of awareness of the other teams adjustments. Blocking needs improvement asap, and offensively they need more consistent presence and production from the middle. If they can improve that part of their game, they’ll be consistently tough to beat on every point, set, and match. If they can’t, then good blocking teams will block and dig the pins with some success, and long rallies won’t be their friend. GCU is a good team that made adjustments and made it very interesting at the end tonight. An experienced Hawaii team would take note and be prepared for a battle on Friday.
Wouldn’t be surprised if UH goes international for 2017. You figure after the Europe trip, Shoji was able to scout and connect with coaches and former players (remember he was with Gustin), that could direct them to top foreign recruits. And if that’s the case the signing process can be really long, making sure they qualify and also that they aren’t considered professional.
And should UH want to maintain the standard Nikki Taylor has on the right, it may require going international.
It’s past the holiday season and 3 weeks into the new year and no word on if Shoji is staying or going. Left over players for 2017 will not commit to a team not knowing who’s going to be the head coach. Need an official announcement real quick like.
Not sure why people think this is Shoji’s last year.
or that there needs to be an announcement if he is staying.
When he decides to say something he will.
