First match 3 p.m. HST
UCI vs. Loyola-Chicago to be followed by Lewis-Penn State

Anteaters opened with a loss to Lewis in the Bren before winning the Outrigger.
Two of their other osses were 3-2: USC and Pepperdine., and 3-1 to Hawaii.
The Ramblers are the defending national champions and return most starters from last year. Their only two losses were to Lewis, both 3-1.
Pressure is on UCI to carry the MPSF banner. Ramblers beat Stanford last year in the NCAA final. after holding off Penn State 3-2 i the semifinal.
think it’s a real tossup here. Do like UCI’s chances.

Nittany Lions have won 16 straight, defeated Lewis 3-2 in the fall, lost at home to Lewis 3-1 in late January, part of a six-match losing streak to open the season; lost at Lewis 3-1 in late February. The next night PSU lost at Loyola-Chicago 3-1, and that was the last time they lost Feb. 21.
The Flyers lost in the MIVA final to Loyola but still got the overall top seed.
If Goodell and Russell go off, think Penn State wins this one.

Re: Post # 80 on May 5, 9:17 pm . The box on the UH website says PSU hit .298, not .437 . UH hit .327, as was correctly posted.

Know I will get dogged for this. I will share my feelings. Ahem:

    Thoughts on Thursday’s semifinals?

Who cares? I am sad Warriors not playing in this. 🙁

I choose Loyola, with Lewis a close second.

  4. Cindy Luis May 7, 2015 3:08 pm

    4. because it’s volleyball.

I hope that UCI wins it all, then UH can say they were able to beat the National Champions at least once.

    Loyola swept UCI…

  7. Cindy Luis May 7, 2015 5:57 pm

thanks. Wasn’t that close. Ramblers win 25-22,25-19, 25-17, improve to 27-2
Hershko 12-7-29 and La Cavera 10-7-30 for the Anteaters, who hit .140 for the night.
Loyola hit .312, Jaeschke and Gevis with nine kills each.
    Ramblers outblocked the ‘Eaters 10.5-4.0.

Looks like the MIVA is better than the MPSF, at least at the top .

  9. Cindy Luis May 7, 2015 6:37 pm

    All about the matchups.
Lewis up 2-1 on Penn State

  10. islandman May 7, 2015 6:46 pm

Why do the UH players near the net put their hands behind their heads when their teammate is getting ready to serve ?

  11. Cindy Luis May 7, 2015 7:06 pm

    10. Something that long has been done at the international level to make sure arms are above shoulders. Something the Warriors have done since the Carl McGown days with Wilton.

  12. Cindy Luis May 7, 2015 7:07 pm

Lewis wins 25-20, 22-25, 25-16, 25-20. First time in NCAA history no MPSF (formerly the CIVA and WIVA) is in the national final.

    11. Didn’t know that; I always thought it was to protect their head after a few got hit on the back of their heads from the serves.

  14. islandman May 7, 2015 7:31 pm

    11. Thanks for the info. I noticed the Lewis and Penn St players don’t do that. I didn’t see the first match.

    12. Very interesting info on the MPSF not being in the Finals.

  15. islandman May 7, 2015 7:34 pm

    11. I thought they were maybe showing off their muscle arms .

  16. jmy May 7, 2015 7:40 pm

Love it…Of course I’m disappointed that UH isn’t in it, but it’s nice to see something other than an all-MPSF final…I spent the whole season dismissing Loyola & Lewis…they proved me wrong…props to them…

Until UCI lost in the semifinal I was sure that Zack La Cavera would be awarded National Player of the Year. Now I wonder who will? Any guesses?

  18. vballfreak808 May 7, 2015 8:43 pm

    17. Thomas Jaeschke of Loyola was already awarded AVCA National Player of the Year
