    Good news.

  4. Cindy Luis January 17, 2014 7:20 pm

UH up 15-13 at the TTO. playing much better. Ramos with 2 successful dumps already.
    49ers hitting .571. UH 688

  5. Cindy Luis January 17, 2014 7:25 pm

Hitting error by 49ers helps UH pull out to a 19-16 lead. TO Beach.

  6. Cindy Luis January 17, 2014 7:29 pm

UH’s 20-17 lead has been cut to 20-19. TO UH.

  7. Cindy Luis January 17, 2014 7:34 pm

Olsen hits wide when going line (at least that’s what the linesman said, it looked in), Olsen with a kill and UH with a block. Warriors lead 23-21. TO Beach.

  8. Cindy Luis January 17, 2014 7:36 pm

Olsen hits long, it’s tied at 23. TO UH.

Sedore with a kill, Beach hitting error. UH wins 25-23

  10. volleyball fan January 17, 2014 7:41 pm

The audio doesn’t work, so I can’t even listen to the match only follow on LiveStats, a poor substitute to the audio excitement.. At least I don’t have to feel bad about no TV today as I can’t get online video anyway due to new Oceanic restrictions. Glad to hear that finally UH took a hard-won set from Long Beach. It snaps the 12-set winning streak of Long Beach I think. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

  11. Close Up on Cindy January 17, 2014 7:42 pm

    YAY!

I’m ticked though ’cause I had something typed in response to your generous info provided.
My laptop is on the fritz. I lost it; I’ll retype regarding UHH/BYuH.

  12. Cindy Luis January 17, 2014 7:43 pm

Key was UH’s serving and Sedore getting off to a quick start. UH 1 ace, 4 SEs. Beach 0 aces, 1 SE
    Warriors hit .552 19-3-29, Beach 414 16-4-29
    Ramos 2-0-2, Sedore 7-0-9, Averill 3-0-3, Zarkovic 3-0-3, Olsen 3-2-10, HOlt 1-1-2. 8 digs, 2 blocks
    49ers: Crabb 7-0-10, Satterfield 3-0-4, Whit 2-1-6, 6 digs, 0 blocks.

  13. Cindy Luis January 17, 2014 7:46 pm

    10. did you go through UH’s audio link? have you tried espn1420am.com?

  14. Cindy Luis January 17, 2014 7:47 pm

Hawaii’s passing has broken down a bit. 49ers out to a 7-2 lead. TO UH.

  15. volleyball fan January 17, 2014 7:53 pm

13, Yes, I went through the UH audio link and it did bring up espn1420am.com. At first I was able to hear the match and then it went quiet permanently. Something is wrong with the audio transmission and I’m surprised that no one else is complaining. I know my Internet is working and so are my speakers. I’m stomped.

  16. Cindy Luis January 17, 2014 7:53 pm

Holt with 2 straight aces. UH has pulled to 12-10

  17. Cindy Luis January 17, 2014 7:54 pm

And a nice bump set from Averill to Olsen makes it 12-11. Timeout Beach.

  18. Cindy Luis January 17, 2014 7:55 pm

    15. I’ll check with the radio guy at the break.

  19. Cindy Luis January 17, 2014 7:56 pm

Amazing how many times UH has an SE coming out of a timeout. 3 this match if my count is correct.

  20. Cindy Luis January 17, 2014 7:58 pm

Sedore blocked. 49ers take a 15-12 lead at the tho

  21. Cindy Luis January 17, 2014 8:00 pm

    15. VBF, do you have a smartphone that you could download the espn1420am app? just trying to find a way to help you. sounds like you don’t have Oceanic but it’s on OC 884 if you know someone who does.

  22. Cindy Luis January 17, 2014 8:01 pm

questionable touch call, same questionable linesman. 49ers up 18-13 TO UH.
Crabb continuing to have an impressive night. 10-0-16.

  23. volleyball fan January 17, 2014 8:08 pm

No, Cindy, I don’t have a smart phone and I still can’t bring up the audio. Thanks for trying to help. Seems like I’m the only one who has a problem listening as no one else is complaining. But then maybe no one else is listening. I don’t see any posts by Warriorfan or the other regular bloggers. The media coverage is really disappointing. Why does BYU-Utah have the best coverage of all? It induces me to become their fan. If I can’t watch and can’t listen, it’s hard for me to remain a UH fan win or lose.

  24. Cindy Luis January 17, 2014 8:10 pm

Averill hits long. 49ers win 25-19

  25. JS January 17, 2014 8:12 pm

No,Volleyball Fan, I had same audio problems at the espn1420am.com website. 🙁

  26. Cindy Luis January 17, 2014 8:15 pm

    23. not many regular bloggers during the men’s season. Perhaps they are all here at the match.
Are you referring to BYU-TV? I don’t think their broadcasts are better than Oceanic’s, at least not volleyball. Not sure what you mean about ‘disappointing media coverage.’ This is the first time UH isn’t on TV this season. It’s on radio but sounds like you can’t get it. at least you have me ‘-)

  27. Cindy Luis January 17, 2014 8:18 pm

    25. spoke with radio. they said things were working on their end. don’t know what else to say.

  28. ER January 17, 2014 8:23 pm

ESPN radio over Internet was working for part of the first game, then quit. Have tried on two iPads (thru espn radio ap) and computer. Still nothing.

  29. Cindy Luis January 17, 2014 8:24 pm

Crabb with first hitting error. 13-1-22.
Fey in for UH in Set 3. it’s 3-3

  30. Cindy Luis January 17, 2014 8:32 pm

Besides Fey, UH put in Etim-Thomas. guy has hops. UH up 11-10

  31. volleyball fan January 17, 2014 8:34 pm

Audio finally works. Thanks, Cindy. In response to your question, I meant BYU-Utah. It’s not a matter a quality. Both Oceanic and BYU-TV have good quality broadcasts. The only difference is that BYU-TV is universally available while I am excluded from Oceanic due to lack of cable so I can’t subscribe. I’ll still watch BYU-TV men’s volleyball matches as that’s the only station I can watch. Watching video is still far more fun than listening, no comparison. I might have to travel someday to Honolulu to watch a volleyball match, perhaps the final two matches with BYU-Utah. Haven’t decided for sure yet. If I travel there I’ll look you up, Cindy. Thanks for being so responsive to my posts.

  32. Cindy Luis January 17, 2014 8:37 pm

Yet another bad call from the same linesman, calling an attempt by Averill out. instead of UH up 14-12, 49ers tie it and now go up 15-13 at the TTO.

  33. Cindy Luis January 17, 2014 8:42 pm

    31. gotcha. I knew what you meant, haven’t heard them called BYU-Utah… just BYU-Provo.
Agree it is easier to watch BYU-TV, which also carries BYU-Hawaii games occasionally. I just find that the Blue and White network is very Blue & White. Oceanic seems to be more balanced with their announcers.
let me know if you end up in the arena.

meanwhile, the 49ers have jumped out to a 20-16 lead. UH with a couple of costly service errors.

  34. Cindy Luis January 17, 2014 8:46 pm

Warriors continue to live and die by the serve. 5 aces, 14 SEs. In Set 3, 1 ace 6 SEs.
    49ers up 24-18. TO UH

  35. Cindy Luis January 17, 2014 8:48 pm

Fey serves long. Beach wins 25-19

  36. volleyball fan January 17, 2014 8:48 pm

    33. Of course I like our announcers better, especially Chris McLaughlin. He’s funny and colorful while the BYU commentators are relatively flat. But if I can’t watch Oceanic Sports, BYU-Provo is the next best substitute. Hope to see you someday, Cindy.

  37. Cindy Luis January 17, 2014 8:53 pm

    VBF, let me know.
    anyway, back to the match
The Beach has been very steady, hitting .392 for the night, 409 in Set 3. UH very up and down, 266 for the night, 200 for Set 3
    Sedore 14-2-21, Averill 8-4-19, Zarkovic 6-3-19, Olsen 6-5-19 (2 sets), Fey 5-1-7
    49ers with 8 blocks, UH 5.5.
UH 26 digs, 8 by Kanetake. 49ers 29 digs, 6 by Sato and Crabb. UH 5 aces, 15 SEs. 49ers 1 ace, 7 SEs. Crabb 18-3-30, Satterfield 8-2-21. that’s been their offense pretty much.

  38. Cindy Luis January 17, 2014 8:56 pm

Averill wins a joust, UH up 5-3

  39. Cindy Luis January 17, 2014 9:01 pm

  42. Cindy Luis January 17, 2014 9:15 pm

Zarkovic with an ace and UH has tied it at 19. TO 49ers

  43. Cindy Luis January 17, 2014 9:21 pm

Great defense on both sides, 49ers win the point. Averill got stepped on under the net tho. it’s 23-23

  44. Cindy Luis January 17, 2014 9:22 pm

Zarkovic;s kill gives UH the set point at 24-23. Averill to serve

  45. Cindy Luis January 17, 2014 9:23 pm

Crabb clearly under the net. no call. 49ers tie it at 24

  46. Cindy Luis January 17, 2014 9:25 pm

UH had its chance at 25=24. zarkovic hits wide. 25-25. another SE for the 49ers and it’s set point. 49ers hit long. UH wins it 27-25

  47. Cindy Luis January 17, 2014 9:29 pm

First 5-setter for both teams this season. Set 4 tied 18 times, 5 lead changes.
    Sedore 23-4-41. Averill 11-5-24. Zarkovic 9-7-33. Crabb 21-4-40 for the 49ers.
The Beach with 6 SEs in Set 4, UH with 5

  48. Cindy Luis January 17, 2014 9:35 pm

    Sedore’s aces puts UH a 5-3 lead. 49ers score, it’s 5-4

  51. Cindy Luis January 17, 2014 9:40 pm

Averill with a kill, Holt with a solo stuff and UH up 10-7. TO 49ers

  52. Cindy Luis January 17, 2014 9:43 pm

49ers wilting. Set goes outside the antenna and Satterfield hits into the net. UH up 12-7. TO Beach

  53. Cindy Luis January 17, 2014 9:46 pm

Siki with a kill. UH serving for the match 14-8

  54. Cindy Luis January 17, 2014 9:46 pm

UH with the stuff and 15-8 win

  55. rosepetals January 17, 2014 9:53 pm

Yes! Way to go warriors! Would have loved to see this match on tv instead of the one shown yesterday.

  56. FeedTheMiddles January 17, 2014 9:54 pm

Great win over a quality opponent. Teriffic effort by the entire team. Moving up in the rankings again!

  57. K-Bay January 17, 2014 9:55 pm

    Outstanding!

    Thank You, Cindy (All Year)

Mahalo, Charlie, Staff and “Rainbow” WARRIORS!

  58. volleyball fan January 17, 2014 9:57 pm

Glad I was able to listen to Hawaii beat Long Beach. What a great upset! I think that Long Beach men started getting tired and error-prone at the end of the fourth and fifth sets. I guess it was past their bed time considering that the match ended at 9:50 PM, which is 11:50 PM California time. Also, they haven’t played a five-game match this season. Yes, I’d love to see the BYU matches in person.

  59. Cindy Luis January 17, 2014 10:01 pm

Great win. sorry, was chatting with Tom and Diane Pestolesi. be back in a bit with new thread.

  60. Tiki808 January 17, 2014 10:18 pm

Great match. Long Beach State have dominated UH men’s volleyball team for as long as I can remember since 1980. Finally 3-2 win at Stan Sheriff Center a big win for UH team. I thought Hawai’i might have been more quicker and played harder when needed.

  61. Warriorfan January 17, 2014 10:24 pm

Long beach dominating UH MEN?? no way never, they may have won 5 straight but UH led the series before then and now it’s tied. UH played so much better and Sedore played up to his potential. Holt really came thru in the 5th with some huge blocks.

It’s a shame this wasn’t televised for fans outside the island to see.

  62. Cindy Luis January 17, 2014 10:24 pm

    60. not really dominated. the series is tied 38-38.
