Taylor to train for Pan Am tryouts

Spoke with Nikki Taylor today. Said she’ll be going up to the OTC in June to work out and try out for the Pan Am team.

USAV had told me last month that all the teams hadn’t been announced. Pan Am is one of those.

Brooke Sedore is in town for a few days, said he had to get into the gym and be back with ‘the boys.’said he’ll go back home, run some camps and then hopefully get an agent to go play professionally.

Good luck to Nikki. Was expecting a female hire for assistant coach. Who knows it just a rumor right now.

To be clear, this is the Pan Am Cup team, not the Pan Am Games team. It is a long shot as most players on the team have been professionals. I believe Inky Ajanaku of Stanford was the only collegian on the 2015 roster. But good luck to Nikki.

Still doesn’t answer the question as to whether Nikki received an invite to one of the collegiate national teams as a result of her last tryout. I guess it doesn’t matter now given the passage of time.

If it is Tom, do we get Diane too! If so, this would be too good. Without her decision to attend UH and legitimize the wahine program as a school that the top HS player in the country would want to attend, set the stage for other top recruits to come to UH.

    4. Rumor from the previous thread that Tom Pestolesi has been hired as the new UH assistant to replace Robin Ah-Mow Santos. Only a rumor.

I’m just throwing this out there, but if Pesto is coming as an assistant….maybe shoji grooming him for the next head coach position?

Pesto has some great contacts and rep back in cali where most wahine recruits come from. I could see him taking over. His personality, love for Hawaii, Diane, cali connections…i can see it happening and him being very successful at it.

How about this for a crazy idea. Prestolesi takes a temp leave from his job and comes here as a temp hire until such time that Shoji retires. That way the new coach whoever it may be can come in with His/Her own staff. At the end who knows he might apply for the head coaching job.

    2. thanks. Pan Am Cup, not Games.

    oh those rumors.

    4. Tom Pestolesi, head coach at IVC. married to former Wahine Diane Sebastian.

    7. not so crazy. Can tell you this much. It will require Pestolesi to take a sabbatical, which is possible since he is now tenured.

The Pestolesis will be here in June. Mentioned a few months ago that Diane is being honored as one of the 50 alumni/alumnae from the UH School of Nursing, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary.

    3. unlikely to happen that Diane would be on staff as well. She has a very good job as the department chair for the Health Sciences at Saddleback College. If her husband takes the job, it will be as a volunteer since he can’t be paid while on sabbatical.

I do know that Pestolesi has always wanted to come back and coach with Shoji for a season.
