Taylor, Huff, Ah Mow-Santos, etc

Taylor has been cleared to practice a little more but not fully. No front row yet but she has been taking swings from the 3-meter.

Shoji said he would not use her this weekend unless she was cleared to play and if she was ready.

Stanley Lee will have a video chat with Taylor up on WarriorWorld some time today.

Was alerted to a VT post about Huff being offered a scholarship to play basketball next season. Not true.
Spoke with Huff this morning. Asked if she was thinking about basketball and she said no, maybe her junior year.

Regarding Ah Mow-Santos’ absence from matches. Dad was hospitalized for a few days. Been told he has been released.

oh, the etc.
Congratulated Magill on her MOP award. She said she was surprised since middles didn’t usually get things like that.

We all knew that the Huff story was baloney. Same people going from forum to forum with silly statements . Latest from same person..he talks to UCI head coach Paula Weishoff on VT thru private messaging and Mitchem might be going to UCI .

I know that it frustrates some people but it’s all entertainment to me 🙂

  2. mauna September 9, 2014 1:07 pm

Like I previously stated Shoji and Wong wouldn’t have brought Annie over for an official visit without the scholarship thing all figured out, and not dependent on one of the three verbals not signing in November or putting Huff on a BB scholie.

  3. Cindy Luis September 9, 2014 1:47 pm

    1. just wanted to set the record straight since people were contacting me off the blog about Huff and what was being said on VT.
Mitchem has been committed to come to UH for three years. She’s worked very hard academically to make it happen.

  4. Warriorfan September 9, 2014 1:51 pm

Awesome. I am guessing Annie will be playing two years of indoor and three of beach. I wish she redshirted at her junior college this year so she would have three years of indoor.

  5. Stan Lee September 9, 2014 1:56 pm

    Hi all,
Here’s Nikki Taylor talking about her injury.

  6. roofer68 September 9, 2014 2:04 pm

Cindy thanks for setting the record straight on Megan and Annie. Some people for unknown reasons enjoy putting rumors on blogs.

And thank you Stan Lee for the video on Nikki.

  7. Cindy Luis September 9, 2014 2:05 pm

    4. believe she’ll have 2 years of each IF she plays both. my understanding is that she had to redshirt academically that first year indoors.
She played sand her (indoor) Redshirt year and this past spring.

  8. kalihifc September 9, 2014 2:10 pm

The interview suggests she’s far from playing. 🙁

  9. Cindy Luis September 9, 2014 2:10 pm

    6. Happy Stan dropped in with the camera equipment.
Think two of his questions got cut out. Believe he asked if she had been cleared to practice in the front row and then when would she would be able to play in a match.

  10. Cindy Luis September 9, 2014 2:18 pm

8, don’t know if ‘far from playing’ is the reality. been saying she is likely out this week. If she continues to progress, maybe back-row duty next week? no sense rushing her back.

  11. idk September 9, 2014 2:33 pm

Cindy, you say Mitchem has been committed to UH for three years as if its been confirmed for three years. Every time you mentioned her and her possibility of playing at UH its always been a probability and/or a most likely. But you never had the confirmation. And you never gave us a confirmation. I’m guessing its confirmed as in guaranteed now.?!?

  12. idk September 9, 2014 2:35 pm

I guess we’ve been questioning it because there was never a definitive answer. But it seems like now there is, and its exciting.

  13. uhfan September 9, 2014 2:45 pm

Dave is gonna be on the Leahey show tomorrow at 7:30

  14. cocobean September 9, 2014 3:54 pm

Hey Stan. Thanks for the video. Nikki looks leaner, or did you use your skinny cam that makes people look 10lbs lighter than they really are.

  15. bleachercoach September 9, 2014 3:55 pm

I am glad that Nikki is improving and getting to touch the volleyball. Yes, I agree it would be wise to bring her back slowly unless she is really 100%..We really need her come conference time. Prayers also for Robyn’s dad. Hope he is recovering well and always great to see Robyn’s presence on the court.

  16. WaWa September 9, 2014 4:44 pm

I’m so glad to hear good news about “Pops”. I’m wishing him a speedy recovery. He was also very instrumental with juniors volleyball along w/Coach “O”, Kamali’i VBC, & McKinley High School Girls’ VB back in the day. The good ole days. He was an awesome coach to be trained under & just plainly a very nice guy.

  17. mauna September 9, 2014 5:07 pm

    14. Nikki’s leaner by 15 lbs from last season. She now must be 30 lighter than her senior year. Shows her dedication to the program, to be the best that she can be.

  18. Cindy Luis September 9, 2014 5:17 pm

    17. she is thinner. definitely lighter than high school when she didn’t play volleyball her senior year.

  19. cocobean September 9, 2014 9:12 pm

#17, #18. Thanks for confirming what I thought.

  20. Cindy Luis September 9, 2014 10:24 pm

    19. think i mentioned it during a recap of one of the first few days of practice. believe it was 10 pounds lighter than when she was playing sand, and lighter than last fall.

  21. LC September 10, 2014 7:26 am

Any loss this weekend could kick the Wahine out of the poll.

Although we all know that they call it the poll with no meaning for a reason and RPI is what it is really about it is still hard to see this program no longer respected in the poll, and when you have someone like Holly McPeak saying that Hawai`i isn’t a top 25 team it hurts.

  22. hollycow September 10, 2014 8:55 am

Wahine needs to beat UCLA to keep McPeak’s trap shut.

  23. Cindy Luis September 10, 2014 9:14 am

    21. not necessarily. think a loss to UCLA would drop them lower than 22 but much depends on how the teams ahead of them do this week. Coaches putting a lot of weight behind the Bruins’ win over Illinois.
Florida lost twice last week yet moved up a spot due to Illinois losing and falling from 9 to 12.
Same with BYU. loses, moves up a spot because of where Illinois dropped.

  24. LC September 10, 2014 11:01 am

    I said COULD !
Lost to #25 ASU dropped from #17 to #20
    Lost to # 22 Oregon dropped from 20 to # 22
Lose to #25 UCLA could be bumby.

  25. Cindy Luis September 10, 2014 12:56 pm

    24. you did say could. just responding with reasons they might not.

  26. bleachercoach September 10, 2014 4:08 pm

Whatever happens in the ranking happens. I Rather be unranked and people look past us.
Just win the conference…win the 1st,2nd rounds,Regionals, (all on the road of course) and get to the Final Four.
Yes, it looks life we have to go the hard road this year. That may come at the expense of no home games for the BEST FANS!! That’s okay. I remember when we were something like 32-0 and lost to Michigan St. at home in the 2nd round. That hurts more!!!!

  27. Cindy Luis September 10, 2014 5:51 pm

    26. actually 31-1. the 95 Michigan State loss was in the regional final. UH up 2-0. lost in five. They decided to use the Big Ten scoring format (never used it again) for the NCAA tournament. The technical TOs were at odd increments, like first to 5 and 10 points, and I believe that UH was leading, had the momentum, every time they were forced to go to a TTO

Also it was the first time that they took a 10-minute break after Set 2. Hawaii was not used to that and, IMHO, cooled off before coming back out for Set 3. Rally scoring used only in Set 5 back then. Hawaii, with smaller attackers like Wilton and Robins just worn down by MSU’s bigger block.

  28. Wop ur jaws September 10, 2014 6:50 pm

    26. Ugh I remember that night. Angelica, Ah Mow, Nobriga, Crawford, Robins, Goods and Yamashita. UH was up two sets to none… then Michigan State came roaring back. UH was unable to fight back mostly because they were not prepared to have a team that was faster and more defensive than they have seen almost all season long. That was a heart breaker at home.

  29. mauna September 10, 2014 8:50 pm

On Leahey and Leahey, Dave said it. Nikki may play in spots this weekend and be ready to go full time next week.

  30. John September 10, 2014 10:05 pm

    At 29.

Believe it when I see it. Shoji doesn’t always do what he says..

  31. mauna September 10, 2014 10:22 pm

    30. I know what you mean, I’m just quoting what he said.

  32. John September 11, 2014 4:38 pm

Does anyone think that maybe it would be better for Nikki to take a medical hardship this season instead of trying to come back when it’s almost the middle of the season. I mean if she’s not a 100% from the sound of it and she’s not sure how much playing time she’d have, wouldn’t be better to have her rehab and rest up?
I’d rather have her healthy for a full season than half a one. Kinda wasye for her
    sophmore year don’t ya think?

  33. Cindy Luis September 11, 2014 5:28 pm

There’s been no talk of a redshirt season. To clarify, you have to exhaust your 5 years to play 4 before applying for a medical hardship. Which gives a player a sixth season

  34. John September 11, 2014 6:18 pm

If she doesn’t play today and this weekend what are the possibilities of her deciding or the coach deciding to redshirt her?

Want her to play just worried she shouldn’t push herself if she can’t.

  35. Cindy Luis September 11, 2014 6:45 pm

They weren’t expecting her back until next week so she is ahead of schedule. She has very good medical advisors.
