Shoji fete Sunday
Unfortunately unable to attend as I am on the mainland.
It should be a great night. I know of many former Wahine who will be there, many of whom have been enjoying the past few days getting together on Oahu.
We had a special in today’s paper. I could have written much more. Brought back a lot of memories for me.

I don’t see the special section in the digital edition. Is it included in the print replica or is there a link on the staradvertiser.com website?
The articles are linked in the little gray box next to the main article (located on the first “page” of the digital edition and again in the sports section). I think they are called “Top Ten” and “The Best of the Best” etc.
Great celebration….Jim Leahy wrote and gave a great description of Klum gym during the early years of the program. Kanoa Leahy had two funny stories to support a mini-roast since everyone was so NICE. Retired and current opposing coaches wished Shoji well over the Jumbotron. The rubber man made an appearance and did his dance, it was crazy good; my body hurt as i empathized after the gyrations. Lastly, Shoji pointed out that his last PSA reading was .o2 (excellent), looks like he beat Cancer. Many former players showed up …..Love was everywhere. Great Aloha Ball for Coach.
Thanks, Tako for sharing. It sounds like it was a fitting send-off for a truly great coach!
They forgot to put the special section in the digital edition. It’s up now at http://www.staradvertiser.com/2017/05/21/special-sections/king-of-the-court-david-shoji/
It was pretty awesome. Also appreciated the $10 food vouchers and that the cheerleaders handed out individual ticket vouchers for next year. I already have my season tickets pre-ordered, but I guess I can bring some guests. Takes some of the sting out of the $40 ticket price. I noticed the current team was in the stands with us hoi polloi; the older former players made it to the crazy expensive tables. I guess the proceeds are going to the Dave and Mary Shoji scholarship fund. Many of Robyn and Angelica’s teammates were there, at the end they all got together and tossed Shoji in the air.
For those of us who weren’t in attendance, it would be nice to see the names of the Wahine in attendance. It looked like a grand celebration!
Saw Kee Williams, Lauren Duggins, Joyce K., Kanoe Kamana’o, Mahina Eleneki, Jamie Lee, Ashley Watanabe, Liz K., Jenny Wilton, The Sateles, Wolford, Tita Palakiko, Kari Anderson …sorry, I can see their faces but can’t remember their names. Maybe, someone else can jump in and fill the gaps.
