Sedore the MPSF player of the week
No real surprise but you just never know. National award given out tomorrow.
Brook Sedore was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Week following his performance in the Rainbow Warriors’ two-match sweep of UCLA over the weekend.
Sedore, a junior opposite from Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada, averaged 5.11 kills per set and hit .427 during the series. He matched his season-high of 24 kills on .452 hitting in the team’s four-set victory on Friday and tallied 22 kills, hitting .400, in the five-set win on Saturday. He also served an ace each night, and combined for seven digs and three blocks. Prior to the weekend, Sedore had only one 20-plus kill match this season.
For the season, Sedore leads the team with a 3.62 kill average while hitting at a .320 clip. He also leads the team with 18 service aces.
He is the first Rainbow Warrior to be honored by the conference this season and it marks the second weekly of his career.
Sefore and the Rainbow Warriors host No. 8 UC Irvine Friday, March 7 and Sunday, March 9 in a pivotal MPSF series this week. Following the two wins, UH moved up three spots into a tie with UCI for eighth in this week’s AVCA Top 15 poll.
Congrats to Brook.
Is Formerly Warriorfan the same as Warriorfan I wonder?
I was hoping that Brook would get it so I’m glad for him. Now all that waits is AVCA National Player of the Week. Good luck there!
3. I’d have to dig through IP addresses to check but I don’t think it matters if it is or not. Also easy to have different IP addresses when using home vs. work computers.
Since we don’t require email registration, anyone can use any username and use a false email address too. Can be frustrating when wanting to have a private conversation with a poster.
UH wasn’t sure about the AVCA award. was told that they are usually notified in advance if it happen and they hadn’t received that notice yesterday afternoon. Still it would be nice. It would be the first since Umlauft in 11.
3. Siki actually got the award last season after defeating USC twice so he would be the latest one to get it. But yes Umlauft was the most recent before him.
2. yes for some reason can’t post as warriorfan anymore or use my regular email address.
If Brook doesn’t get AVCA POW heads will roll.
off topic but this is another article on Megan Huff that states she will play both basketball and volleyball at UH
http://seattletimes.com/html/highschoolsports/2023010598_girlsregionalpreview28xml.html
4. then UH needs to update their media guide. I will let them know.
5 you can post under whatever user name you choose. don’t know about your email address.
as for heads rolling … it is the AVCA’s decision and you know how that goes.
6.story doesn’t say she will, said that she plans to. may be her plan. may not happen. both coaches have to sign off on it.

Shoots. Vballfreak808 you beat me by 1 minute.
Wouldn’t that mean she has to be on a basketball schollie? Or can she still just be a “walk on” on basketball and continue with the vball scholorship
3. Ha!

3. You have a captive audience here Cindy Luis. I can speak personally on censorship
…whatevers tho ’cause it is your blog and you can *& DO* anything you want in it.
😉
And I’m not kalohe, hah?!
🙂
11. To be on scholarship playing both sports, you have to be on a basketball scholie. No walking on for basketball while on a volley scholie. The only other way is walking on for both sports with no sports scholie. Anyone can correct me on this but, playing both with an academic scholarship is ok with the NCAA.
Not totally sure about that. BK does trump VB but there have been cases where a VB player, who has completed eligibility in VB walks on for BKB. she was still on VB scholarship for the school year.
16. That could happen if she was a senior using up her eligibility in both sports. I would think the NCAA would let that go. I think the NCAA is targeting that ruling to underclassmen. Hamson from BYU redshirted her senior volleyball last year and is playing basketball full time this season. This season she would be a fifth year redshirt senior for volleyball and she could do the same and walkon for basketball if she has a year of eligibility left for basketball. Just a thought.
Why does the ncaa say that basketball trumps vball? Is their a certain reason for this, or do they just value basketball more
Basketball is considered a revenue sport and volleyball not. Both men’s and women’s basketball are able to offer more scholarships that volleyball.
Football trumps any other men’s sport. If someone is on scholarship in football, they are a walk-on in any other sport. Tuileta a prime example. he was offered football scholarship and would have walked on for vb.
The ncaa also doesn’t want schools to be able to use scholarships designated for a ‘minor sport’ as a way to stack, say, football or basketball. UCLA got busted for it a while back when having softball players, I think, on scholarship from another sport when they weren’t on that other team.
Well I guess huff getting a nall schollies helps us. It offers us one more scholorship and we still get her on te vball team (assuming she will play both). And I think they only have two next year (if huff stays on scholorship) and we have castillo and granato coming in and mitchem maybe, so we can give huffs too mitchem. (I hope I’m correct about scholorship number)
Basketball not nail, sorry autocorrect sucks some times
20. I’m thinking that Beeman wouldn’t want another player on BB scholarship playing VB too. UH offered Robins-Hardy a BB scholarship with no option to play VB. BYU gave her a deal to play both with arrangements unknown so far. Huff was quoted that she wanted to concentrate on VB so I’m wondering where Sandy Ringer the writer from Seattle Times got her info.
I’m thinking they’re not going with the national title on Brooke Sedore. This is a lost cause year, if they’re thinking about a national run for a title. It sure looks this way.
Brook Sedore is 6-5 and maybe not the player to carry Hawai’i Warriors to an MPSF title, then maybe to a national title. I think you’ve spelled it out for some, a lost cause year and maybe next year, an MPSF title. They’re not going to go with Brook this year. They have other players in line to go to. Remember Murphy Troy, USC 6-5, yes. Him? Same deal!
20. Huff signed her NLI to play volleyball.
Mitchem is 2015.
UH is getting a transfer for 2014. They are working on the paper work right now. All Shoji would say is it’ll be big-time.
24. the MPSF title is still up for grabs. we’ll see how the rest of the season plays out.
25. Sounds like a really big news for us anxious fans to fill last years seniors void. Hopefully it’ll be an OH/RS. At least unlike last years drama, Shoji had a head start of seeking out transfers earlier, when the more quality, proven players are seeking a school.
How will shoji fill those scholorships for 2015? Assuming this transfer gets a scholorship that leaves one available next year, and they don’t gain any from this graduating class (unless this transfer is a senior). And they have castillo and granato. Maybe I’m wrong about my scholorship numbers though.
24. Murphy Troy was 6’8″ 240.
27. Shoji’s got it all figured out as far as scholarships. This is year 40 of doing that.
28. Oh I know haha. I just like to figuire these things out I guess.
Maybe the transfer is carly kan! Lol it’s probably not but one can dream that she’s home sick.
Just to throw a name out there, I see Michelle Lawrence formerly of Colorado St still looking for a school. 6’2″ starting OH with decent stats in 2013. She’s from SoCal and wants to be closer to home, but who knows.
30. not Kan. I did ask.
Of course they have enough scholarships, and Huff might go on basketball scholie ( beeman would be nuts to not want her , she’s the second best basketball player in the whole state of washington and the best is headed to Stanford)
Lawrence would be a nice get but not really big time. I hope it’s another PSU or texas castoff, like Pilar Victoria or Aiyana Whitney, why sit the bench there when they can star here??
I am pretty surprised Shoji is bringing in a transfer. Maybe it was an offer he couldn’t refuse.
Looking at the roster for next season, if everyone returns that should be coming back and Guinasso does play indoors as well (there was a discussion before whether she would or not), Hawaii would have 16 players on the roster. 5 outsides, 4 middles, 2 setters, 5 liberos. I noticed that 3 of the outsides are juniors so the transfer may be younger so they are still there once the 3 graduate. If Mitchem can transfer in 2015 than she will probably come to Hawaii but there is no guarantee so that might be the chance that the transfer is a middle. Doubt it’s a libero or setter though.
I doubt Victoria would transfer. She will be a huge assets to Texas next season and she will probably stabilize the passing. Dave won’t recruit a setter or libero IMO because we have people to fill the slot. But now I’m sad it’s not kan. She was a star and she would be a star at UH. I tbink it will be an OH because that’s where they lost the most power with hartong.
I also doubt anyone from penn state would transfer out now, seeing as how they just won a nc. It will probably be from a player from a middle of the pack school, from a major conference. Like Arizona, Michigan state, Colorado etc
33. IF, and that’s a big IF, huff decides she also would play basketball, she wouldn’t be on bkb scholarship until 2015-16 since her NLI was for a volleyball scholarship. When Adolph signed, the NLI was for bkb.
36. don’t know. all he said was it was a big-time transfer. I take that to means someone from a big-time program.
OH Long, Taylor, Passi, Olevao, and Greeley, with Huff OH/RS/MB. I see only Nikki garand a starting position. Talk of Olevao going on a mission, Passi and Greeley unproven and Long, no. UH needs a quality, proven D1 OH/RS for 2014. Shoji needs a OH/RS starter for 2014 ASAP.
38. That’s what I was thinking, big time is NOT Arizona, Colorado, Michigan St lol no offense to them.
IMO (I may be wrong) big time just means a good player. Doesn’t have to be from one of the top teams. Liz brenner is a STAR oh and she’s from Oregon who this past year wasn’t as strong. Just remember the middle of the b1g, is still insanely strong and a lot of those teams were ranked in the avca polls. Hopefully it is a recruit from the big time schools though.
And I hope it’s someone that will make a difference. I loved Ashely Kastl and her energy, but she simply wasn’t a force on the court. I hope this player can fill the OH gap we lose with hartong, and this player will make a difference like prince, longo, tano etc
Throw this into the mix, ties with Penn St with happy transfers Ali Longo, Jace Olsen and big schools that were here recently with players exposed to the SS scene, Texas, ASU, UCLA, BYU, Arizona, California to name a few and the Canadian ties with Sedore and Emily Maglio. An Alexa Gray?
wow Alexa Gray would be a dream come true, Shoji would make her first team AA easily.
Alexa gray is way to set at byu to transfer. She’s pretty much gauruntee da starting role next season, and they return Hamson so byu will be a force. I would LOVE for gray to come, I just can’t see it happening
Sorry for all the spelling errors. I hate typing on smart phones
45. I’m very optimistic with Gray or any other big names. You never know, we don’t know her personally, so she maybe not quite happy there. Then she saw what was going on here at the SS. I would think Shoji is trying to get the athlete, whoever she is, here in school before Spring break ends March 28. Drama will unfold quickly.
47. I am too, Shoji is not one to sugar coat. If he says big time, it’s probably big time.
When’s the earliest possible date shoji is allowed to release the name of the player?
49. when the paperwork is done. Thought he’d have to wait until the student was enrolled but now sounds like it’s when she signs scholarship agreement.
